Amazon! And they are so cheap:

There are rods specifically made for doors. One at the top and one at the bottom. You buy fabric panels. I always stuck with white door panel curtains. Student, not designer! Just some of my thoughts!

First thing's first, just give it a good cleaning. Move everything and organize. Right now there's tons of clutter and trash. It will be easier to move things around once the floor and all the surfaces are clean.

My next recommendation is to get some curtains they will add visual weight to your windows and give the room a sense of balance. They don't have to be heavy or thick just to bring you eye around the wall and make it feel more complete. I think something similar to this might be nice and inexpensive.

https://www.amazon.com/Meridian-Grommet-Darkening-Royal-Hotel/dp/B00VFKDZ4M/ref=pd_sim_201_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=61GWNIu6PgL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=TXA4WP3PW13Z86QZ8VGY

On the mirrors, they are not helping much where they are. Being so close to the left side draws your eye and leaves it there without something to balance on the right. Those I would play around with. Maybe try turning them sideways and hanging them over the bed, or separating them and putting one on either side. http://pin.it/3M3Zfz6 Also, center your bed between the windows.

From a design perspective I would move your dresser to be adjacent to your bed. Again, achieving a sense of balance. You have a large room, maybe get a fun chair or a larger rug to help you take up some of the negative space. You can find good pieces of furniture at thrift stores/garage sales that are pretty inexpensive, and of good quality.

I think what you have done with the lighting and the color is a very good interpretation of your inspiration pictures. Your room will always benefit from personal and unique art!

Anyway those are just somethings that stand out. Good luck with your room!

Ditch that dark corner shelf and get some nice over-toilet storage (one | two) that you can organize with baskets, bins, folded towels, etc. Weed out any bath products you're not using.

Replace the curtains with something more modern and light (one | two)! You could even just put some privacy film over the window so you don't lose any light. Add a hanging plant or lantern (to warm up the lighting) to the corner above the toilet, and a tall laundry basket or wastebasket next to the sink.

As others have mentioned, a rug is a great idea - they also make ones that fit around toilets (one | two).

Edit: the links I inserted below have parentheses within the link themselves so I apologise for the bad formatting

You need to establish the two areas of the rooms, the kitchen/dining area, as well as the living space. An area rug would work best in the main space. I would go with coordinating small round rug and one small kitchen floor mat in front of the sink.

I also suggest a small kitchen island with foldable counterspace as well as a cuppy underneath for the microwave. A couple of bar stools and you also have a dining space. This can go directly where the microwave is currently. If you get one on wheels it could easily be used for other sort of things such as game night to fit four people at.

The plant is a nice touch and I always say the more greenery the better. Focus on low light, low water plants for easiest indoor maintenance.

You also definitely need curtains.

A large decorative mirror as well as some art work on the wall above the sofa would brighten the space up as well as make it look larger. I would also move the tall lamp to the opposite corner near the TV and get a nice table lamp instead for beside the couch.

I'll include some links for pieces I would go for, based on the current color scheme available through the sofa and throw pillows.

Amazon has a ton of these - assuming you are in the US. Just one set of 52x45 panels will do it - hang the bar 3 inches above the window - and they will hang two inches below the window. The extra width of the panels will give you a nice full look. Hang the curtain rod so you have an extra 6 inches or so on each side... it gives room for them to bunch up when you pull the curtains back.

I just bought these for my game room and they work as they should (install within the recessed area of the windows if you have, that eliminates any light escaping through the side). You still need a rod.

Thermal insulated blackout curtains are amazing. They make a huge difference. Available from amazon with free next day delivery. Those come in a bunch of sizes and colors. And they work! No light gets through and the heat is noticeably less with them closed.

u/Auz-e- · 2 pointsr/hammockcamping

Not sure since I am in the states, but this one

Or you could make your own bottom-entry bug net from this or this along with other things like Shock Cord and a Cord Lock (both available on Dutchware or searching on Amazon).

u/LinkslnPunctuation · 2 pointsr/audiophile

Honestly, I got some on craigslist for $20. I just emailed and made sure the previous owners didn't smoke or have pets.

Try to get something like this curtain I found on Amazon. It has reinforced grommets for easy and durable sliding and it looks thick. "Blackout" means it's woven densely enough to block sunlight out, which means it should be "heavy" enough to absorb sound. That silence you get when you put your ear up to the panelling you have should be replicated if you put your ear up to the curtains.

If you happen to find lots of thinner curtains for cheap, just layer them.

Velvet curtains would be ideal but you're an audiophile in college. You probably already sold a kidney for the setup you currently have. Buy the curtains on craigslist, buy this $10 pole (make sure the grommets on the curtains are big enough for the pole, though they should be), and whatever mounting hardware you and the homeowner can agree on.

I can't promise that this will fix everything but a treated room allows for much easier adjustments and better critical listening.

We have these curtains hung in our nursery and it’s almost pitch black when we have them drawn.

It all depends on the reflective film that you buy. Some will still allow people to see in at night, plus some of them turn a weird color over time. I wouldn't use lightweight sheer curtains on a door because inevitably they'll get caught when you open it, unless you have them mounted on top and the bottom curtain rods. If you still want to see out, but control both the light and privacy, look into cordless cellular shades. They have the modern look you like. If you don't care about seeing out, but still want the light, you can always put up an opaque window film with or without a pattern.

u/teriyakisoba · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I used these in navy blue for a while and was happy with them. Some light did come in at the sides because of how my curtain rods hung but I never noticed any through the curtains themselves. It wasn't enough to wake me up or keep me awake but YMMV.

lol you and i are i the same boat.

here's what you need

here's what i need
because my ex roomate is a slick bitch and hid mine from the cops while i was trying to move out. she got away with alot of stuff :(

u/Unspoken · 1 pointr/InteriorDesign

Would something like this or this work? I do not need blackout curtains though because all of the houses around here have rolladens. So if there were something cheaper it would be fine.

u/districtly · 1 pointr/InteriorDesign

I think the trouble is whites/creams aren't as inherently light blocking as darker colors so they're not as popular as blackout, more popular as sheers / voile.

Try searching also for "offwhite", "ivory" and "ecru" and just pay attention to reviews mentioning how the color looks IRL

"Offwhite": http://www.amazon.com/Exclusive-Home-Thermal-Grommet-Off-white/dp/B00G24T1WQ/

"Ivory": http://www.amazon.com/Siena-Home-Fashions-Blackout-Curtain/dp/B00LXGUFGY/

FWIW I have these in beige, but they're a true beige not a cream. They block light pretty well. http://www.amazon.com/Best-Home-Fashion-Insulated-Blackout/dp/B003S6O7A2

My best advice for working nights is to get black out curtains for your bedroom. Amazon has some good affordable ones (I have these in dark grey and they work wonderfully). I always stay up until at least 4am on my nights off, and I used melatonin for the first few months of transitioning. If you're able to work your nights in 3 day blocks, do it. I am not always able to do that, and I survive.

Command Utility Hooks to mount over the window frame. The backside is a sticky adhesive that'll rip off without a mark when you move out.

Black curtain to stick it on the hooks.

edit: o damn ninja already mentioned those hooks nvm

Having an OCD sometimes it's like making you actually be more creative, I think you've done a great job here,

I agree that you've got to add just a little bit of accent like some indoor plants and changing the curtains like here or a checkered curtain, but I believe also that everything you will create would be awesome or an embroidered one just like here.

As long as you're happy with what you are doing, I believe that arranging or changing the designs of our homes can be exciting but if you're out of budget you can challenge your self on the amount of spending.

And when it comes to your stuff, you can sell it online like in the marketplace.

By the way, in terms of wall pieces, you can experiment it, you can have like sets or multi-panels like this one or you can have some nordic style or a DIY.
