Big ups to Gold Toe Windsor (wool blend) and Canterbury (cotton blend) lines of over the calf sock. Super comfortable, not too thick, and reasonably priced.

These are not for everyone, as they are thin (it is said here that Outlier ones are thin, no, Outlier ones are my thick socks) dress shoe socks, without anything, just plain. Also their durability is bad. But, 80% Merino, very black, very very soft, absolutely no pilling whatsoever. Dirt cheap for merino.

For horse races, people typically wear light and pastel colored clothes. I have the socks linked below and am having difficulty matching them. I plan on wearing medium brown shoes and white chinos. What kind of color shirt should I go with? I want to match the burgundy horses, but a burgundy shirt would stick out from the light purples, pinks, and blues everyone else will be wearing. Should I wear different pants? I live in a city, so most stores are possible to go to, and money doesn't matter too much. Don't want to spend over $100 for a shirt or $200 for shirt and pants, though. I'll still need money to bet with! Thanks for the help.

What kind of socks? People are throwing around suggestions but they don't know what kind of socks you're looking for/interested in. Smartwool boot socks aren't something I'd wear with formal or even semi-formal brogue shoes, for example.

If you're looking for just regular socks that might go well with a pair of nice shoes, I'd highly recommend Robert Graham. Excellent, super unique designs that are nearly pieces of art and they're made from Pima cotton (Peruvian cotton). If you're looking for formal socks with pizzaz, I'd highly recommend Bugatchi. They make some gorgeous socks. If you're looking for something to wear with boots or out in the snow, go with Smartwool.

If budget is an issue but you still want to look dapper, search Aliexpress for these terms: Happy Socks, Stance Socks, Fashion socks. Typically range from $1 to $4 per pair, but you get basically really well made knock-offs of those well known brands. I don't even think they're knock-offs, I think they're unauthorized pieces since they're made at the same factory (off hours) and sold on the side.

My SO swears by Banana Republic tailored slim-fit, non-iron button-downs like this.

Tailored slim fit is a more modern fit. It doesn't balloon out like a lot of men's dress shirts. The quality is good, too.

For dress shoes & belts he likes Jos A. Banks. They're good at putting outfits together. They'll give you the belt, some socks, matching shoes, etc. Once he figures out which shoes he likes, he buys his next pair online.

For socks we go online as it's 1/10 the price. He just got these dress socks and these in assorted stripes & argyle.

Black dress socks? Goldtoe. I use these for work.

Edit: It's because they're pretty much indestructible.
