I use a different Howard Leight (these ones) to sleep and they're great. They've kept me from murdering a snoring husband! I've also used them shooting and on job sites with great success.

You can also use them a whole hell of a lot longer than the squishy moldable ones

u/RearEchelon · 54 pointsr/gadgets

If you have a pair of earbuds you really like, buy some of this or a reasonable facsimile and insert the buds, sans tips, into the plugs while they're setting. Once it sets, cut or drill a hole. Bam, inexpensive custom earbuds.

u/NewChameleon · 38 pointsr/uwaterloo

ok let's calm down, one at a time

>I've been just walking around by myself, eating by myself, going to class by myself, sitting in class by myself

totally normal, in uni it's actually a hassle to get other people to eat/walk with you because everyone have different schedule

>my living conditions are near hellish. I have a double room in REV and my roommate is someone who loves parties.I wake up approximately 10 times a night

This is pretty serious, you can't study if you don't sleep, try earplugs? I've used those ones and they do wonders

Now you know mayyyybe res is not a good choice, which is why most upper years live off-campus
>I am in all three advanced math/cs courses which I'll drop down from on Monday

If you feel you can't handle it, then drop down to the 135 version, there is NO shame in dropping down, in fact props to you for going 145 in the first place

>Lastly the food. I've tried Shawerma Plus, Paninos, Subway (in SLC), V1 cafe so far and it all tastes sort of bad. I also feel guilty because it's so expensive but anything less than a combo meal and I don't feel full.

newsflash: almost all on-campus food are literally garbage, if you want better food go to plaza or do grocery shoping and cook it yourself

some old posts about what to get in plaza: 1 2 3

I also have misophonia, so I'm approaching this with such a perspective at the forefront of my mind in terms of the issue of noise. I don't know how much you've shared with your fiance about misophonia, or how supportive he is, but at least in the instance of these game nights, he sounds pretty unsupportive. It's completely understandable that he wants to spend time with his buddies and have fun, but it seems completely reasonable to have them be a little more quiet while they do so, even if drinking is involved. Also, like others have already said, the twelve-hour session seems excessive. I don't know how anyone would want to sit at a table for that long! Since he's interested in having a second session, perhaps a possible compromise would be two shorter sessions twice a week? Finding a reason to get out of the house for these sessions would be great, too...

If you are interested in some generic advice for dealing with noise levels, I recommend Mack's silicone earplugs - they're the best earplugs for blocking noise comfortably that I've discovered. It won't block out everything, but it'll work better than the foam ones from the dollar store. I also recommend noise-cancelling headphones - Bose seems to be the most popular brand among us misophonics, but I use ones by Sony that also work well. They won't block out everything, and the music will still need to be a little loud, but it makes a large notable difference in the amount of sound leaking through for myself.

Last year a buddy and I took a 1300 mile trip around Colorado /r/dualsport ride on a Husqvarna 701 and a Yamaha WR250R. Here's a photo of the gear from last year.

This year we are adding one person (riding a monster, brand new, KTM 1090 Adventure R) to the crew and moving a little farther west to see some of the amazing sites in Utah. I put together a 1500 mile route, and will tack on White Rim Trail (if we can get passes) and wander around in Beef Basin for a bit.

A few of my friends have started using Polar Steps, so I've setup a trip and will try to keep it updated. I also maintain a simple website and will post photos on my flickr account.

Now, on to the fun, because sorting out gear and packing is half the fun of a /r/motocamping trip.

I'm involved in volunteer search and rescue (/r/searchandrescue) so a lot of this gear comes from my callout pack and extended incident command packs. The more experienced riders will notice that I'm lacking any tools, spares, tube slime, etc. I'm fortunate enough to be riding with 2 other riders that are packing all that jazz.

Two mottos:

  1. buy once, cry once
  2. high speed, low drag

u/fiah84 · 15 pointsr/motorcycles

get a box of earplugs and wear them

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001426BZQ

they're cheap so if you're going riding, just use fresh ones and bring an extra pair. You'll have more fun riding because you won't get tired as quickly and you'll protect your hearing (which can't be fixed once you break it)

edit: any music or navigation/communication is better handled by speakers in your helmet. In-ear headphones and such will just get jostled/loose and they don't block out the wind noise effectively

u/lethpard · 14 pointsr/bayarea

I started to wear these while motorcycling, which work well if used properly. Then I realized that there are lots of other opportunities to gradually damage your hearing, like inside of a server room, so now I always have a couple with me in my bag. You can't listen to music, but they're less bulky and you can always have them with you.

u/stonecats · 13 pointsr/BuyItForLife

try better ear plugs (there are hundreds of kinds) muffs won't do crap, especially if you are a side sleeper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LC3FIAK
these are my fav; https://www.amazon.com//dp/B000BYAP7I
and i reuse the same pair for a few nights.

u/KHDPhoto · 11 pointsr/electricdaisycarnival

I bring extra earplugs (the decent kind)

These to be specific. They're not quite Earlove XO or Eargasm, but theyre leaps and bounds better than crap foam ones. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000DZF7T6/ref=od_aui_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/scotttfreee · 11 pointsr/brockhampton

my dude u should wear hearing protection to every concert. Hearing loss and tinnitus is not worth it. U can buy specialized concert ear plugs that don’t actually make the audio sound worse but makes high volume sounds less piercing and you can still hear things at low volumes.

u/ocinn · 10 pointsr/headphones

UPDATE: added faceplates: http://imgur.com/ddkg1Ub w/ my initals and channel marking

I made these with the radians kit:

https://www.amazon.com/Radians-CEP001-Custom-Molded-Earplugs/dp/B003A28P4I

Simply follow the instructions (I used half as much material as they said I should, as 1) I have small ears, 2) much of the extra material is being taken up by the IEM)

Then put a cotton wad in the sound tube of the IEMs (to prevent material from going in)

Put IEM's in (without eartip) after inserting putty into ears.

Wait 10 min to cure. Remove from ears and drill out sound tube.

Cut the tube to length. The longer it is the more bass you have, and it attenuates the highs. Shorter is more neutral. I cut them short.

Overall the comfort went up 200%

My right ear must be funny because the seal wasn't as good with both IEM's on that side. I fixed it by using some silicone sealant and a paintbrush to adjust the fit.

Works great and I recommend trying it if you have $10.

u/TLRisen · 9 pointsr/livesound

Howard Leight by Honeywell Max... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RMFGGY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I have these out to guys on show site. Cheap, comfortable, and effective!

u/ArcFlash · 9 pointsr/HomeImprovement

This is the right advice: what you need is good ear plugs and a white noise machine. Not all ear plugs are created equal, I highly recommend these:

https://smile.amazon.com/Flents-Quiet-Please-Plugs-Pair/dp/B001J4HB1C/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523900711&sr=1-7&keywords=earplugs

I have this noise machine, and it works great at drowning out traffic/ambient noise. I find it works well in conjunction with the earplugs:

https://smile.amazon.com/Marpac-Classic-White-Noise-Machine/dp/B00HD0ELFK/ref=sr_1_6_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523900773&sr=1-6&keywords=noise+machine

Yeah! Seriously! I use these for instance.

u/wee_little_puppetman · 7 pointsr/freebies

If you want absolute silence there's a product that's synonymous with that here in Germany: Ohropax. They're wax earplugs. And they're one of those products that just work.

Apparently you can get them in the US through importers and even Amazon. (Assuming that's where you are).

u/koalaberries · 7 pointsr/AskReddit

Honestly, ear plugs are going to be your best (and cheapest) solution. You can get 200 pairs for $20.

These ones will block out practically all sound. For me the problem is that they are a bit uncomfortable and they also block out audible alarm clocks.

These are the ones that I settled on. They are perfect because they are low density, so I can't feel them at all when I am wearing them. They block out 90% of noises, but still let my audible alarm clock through.

When I use the first earplugs I linked, I use this alarm clock that vibrates the bed, that way I don't have to worry about hearing the alarm. It also works wonders.

(Note: If you think you can't sleep with earplugs in, please try the green ones. I need everything to be very specific/comfortable or I can't fall asleep, and I don't notice that I'm wearing the green ones at all.)

u/microcrustaceans · 7 pointsr/xxfitness

Foam earplugs are really cheap! They will block out a lot of the volume but you will still be able to hear the music and instructor (if they are mic-ed). Like these: https://www.amazon.com/Flents-Quiet-Please-Plugs-Pair/dp/B001J4HB1C/ref=sr_1_5?crid=31CNB8NICL3LL&keywords=foam+ear+plugs&qid=1573046046&sprefix=foam+ear%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-5

u/RamsGirl0207 · 7 pointsr/FIREyFemmes

I highly suggest earplugs. I am a light sleeper and noises from neighbors would drive me batty (even when not trying to sleep). I bought these from amazon and they have been a life saver Flents Quiet Please Ear Plugs (50 Pair) NRR 29 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001J4HB1C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_v5HUDbGV8X6DJ

u/icebalm · 7 pointsr/BABYMETAL

Hi yunoo! As a first time metal concert goer I think it's important to let you know that metal concerts are LOUD! So loud that they can induce temporary and/or permanent hearing damage. I highly recommend some musician grade ear protection. I use these but they don't have to be these, just something like them:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MEE876O/

They don't muffle the sound, it's just like turning down the volume. Have fun at the show!

u/goinunder0390 · 7 pointsr/LifeProTips

Since I didn’t see any links to purchase any of these ‘acoustic earplugs’ I did some research on my own:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00P2NTVPA/ref=pd_aw_lpo_267_tr_img_2/143-8274802-1902140?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9N8617F0E5PVG677M9GN

Seem to be the top rated on amazon. Thoughts, anyone who owns?

u/AzNmamba · 7 pointsr/EDM

Yep! https://www.amazon.com/EarPeace-Concert-Ear-Plugs-Protection/dp/B076VTXWBP

u/st8ofinfinity · 6 pointsr/LightningInABottle

I have a few solutions to this as i myself have gone to the extremes on sleep deprivation at lib. Here are a few game changers that made a world of difference.

  1. Your tent. We found that righ as the sun comes up sleep is almost impossible due to light and rockstar heat. We got a bunch of those emergency thermal blankets and lined the exterior of our tent almost entiely in them. This both blocks light and a huge amount of sun heat. They make it seem like air conditioning compared to not using them. Packing tape works very well on holding them together and allows you to customize their shape to fit your specific tent. Another tip is to sandwich or layer them between a fabric material to dampen the noise they make with the wind as they move. Those mitary guilly style camo covers work well too. You basically want to hold them down as well as possible to limit how much they move to eliminate the noise they make, which is like tin foil.
Be creative and innovative with these as they can look really cool too! Your tent will be dramatically more comfortable all day.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01LZN0KGB/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526521307&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=survival+blanket&psc=1

They come in multi packs to save money. Also if you have extra, im sure your neighbors will appreciate it greatly if you donate a few. The only drawback is the noise, so ensure you address this. Installing them on the inside of your tent is also an option.

  2. Sound. Earpeace hd earplugs are amazing
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076VTXWBP/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526521562&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=earpeace&psc=1

I go to tons of concerts! These are exceptional not only for being FRONT ROW! but amazing for sleep as well. They are inexpensive and worth every dollar, and super comfortable!

  3. Brain spa.

    Onnit new mood!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AFB5U3Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526521888&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=new+mood+onnit&psc=1

Take these before bed. Such a great balanced formula and one of the best regenerative items ive found yet!
    Nuff said

  4. Light in the morning or anytime of the day.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GSO1D9O/ref=mp_s_a_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1526522197&sr=8-5&keywords=eye+mask+for+sleeping&dpPl=1&dpID=31eeIOXqJoL&ref=plSrc

Ill keep this short, they just work, period.

  5. Cool as LIB!
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XKLYWFU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1526522342&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=cool+towels+for+neck&dpPl=1&dpID=41vWMI5EJzL&ref=plSrch

We discovered these and theyre awesome! We wet them down at the water stations which are everywhere throughout Lib. They feel amazing in the sun and in a wierd way are kinda fun, idk. Lol

  6. Bring vitamins! I recommend D3, ZINC, B COMPLEX, AND FISH OILS.
Make sure you keep these all cool and dry.

I recommended a cooler scenario in another sub, but ill repeat it here.

Dry ice in your cooler is the best way to refrigerate all weekend that i have found, minus actually having a refrigerator.

Tip: careful with dry ice as it can burn you and mess up your cooler if not prepared properly. Wrap it in brown paper to prevent direct contact with the sides and bottom of your cooler. Also, if you put actual ice around the dry ice this works too. We got a solid 3 days of awesome cooler performance this way. Cover your cooler during the day with the above mentioned mylar blankets for even better performance.

  7. Protein power! You need nutrition if you want to rage like a rockstar! Many flavors and its super fast and simple to prepare. I use mp combat protein, works well and tastes great!

  8. Bed/air mattress. One oddity we found with our air mattress. At night the ground and ambient air temp drops a bunch on some occasions. So the air inside the mattress cools as well which made for an extra chilly experience one night. We insulated the bottom and sides of our air mattress with a fleece or similar blanket which helped keep our body heat inside the mattress.

  9. Feed me! Bring good healthy food like apples, avocados, bananas, pita bread, peanut butter or almond butter. These are delicious and full of proper energy. Keep junk food to a minimum, but dont eliminate it, because well, sometimes cheese its are bomb as hell! You just dont want to be weighed down by garbage. Tip: the acai warrior bowls at the food courts are legit! And, try the poutine for breakfast! You wont regret! Also we found that Mountain house freeze dried packets are a convenient and awesome way to chow down. You'll need hot water for some and regular temp for the cereals and desserts.

I hope this helps. Unfortunately I can't be at LIB this year, so this post helps me cope with said situation.

I have many other pro tips if anyone is interested so hit me up

    Love you LIB!

They don't even need to be disposable. Plugs like these may even save you some money. Do yourself a favor and avoid plugs like these though. The ones with the curved flanges do not work as well as the ones with the flat flanges.

u/FlyRobot · 6 pointsr/Metalcore

Vater - my friend picked them out for me and I don't have the green holding cord. I stick the whole case in my pocket for shows, open it for security (never an issue), and rock them for the show. Probably not the BEST on the market, but my ears are protected and I can still enjoy the show.

u/chibimoon32392 · 6 pointsr/medschool

Ditto.

Anytime you shoot indoors, double up on ear protection, plugs and muffs.

Buy these: http://www.amazon.com/3M-OCS1135-Yellow-Neons-Earplugs/dp/B008MCUOH2

and these: http://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-R-03318-Leightning-Shooters/dp/B001DZX86O/

Electronic ear protection is nice but it's not necessary and, often, electronic ear muffs have lower NRRs. More pricey too.

If i am not listening to music i wear these, they are pretty great.

u/sidious911 · 5 pointsr/Guitar

I take these everywhere.

I just picked them up at a local music store just so I had some hearing protection. I can't go to concerts any more without hearing protection. There is so much more clarity in the sound, cuts out a lot of the echo especially in smaller venues.

You can hear people talking way clearer through the loud volumes as well. No ear ringing afterwards.

The only thing I find is that I don't like taking them out of my ears until I am right out of the venue. I saw Muse in a small club in NYC last year, and I took the ear plugs out at the end of the gig while it was clearing out. It was completely over whelming to hear all the background noise again.

Always bring earplugs to dubstep shows... feeling dat bass vibrating through your body without it hurting your ears feels absolutely amaaaazinggggg

These are my personal choice.

u/sirkazuo · 5 pointsr/motorcycles

I use these guys. They come in a box with a jillion of them with each pair sealed in plastic for not very many dollars. They're a little bit smaller than typical foam plugs so they fit well inside the ear and are so soft and comfortable that I don't feel them at all even on hour+ commutes. I wear each pair for a week or two usually (daily use) by which point they get a little dirty from my hands and I replace them. They would last much longer than that but I like having a nice clean set in my ears and why not.

Welcome to the world of not having long-term hearing loss and tinnitus! Just because you were used to the sound level before doesn't mean it wasn't damaging your hearing. Maybe I take it a little more seriously than most because I've spent a lot of time and money having my ears/hearing surgically repaired at one point so they're something of an investment to me, but trust me when I say the only people that don't care about long term hearing damage are people that have ever experienced being deaf. It fucking sucks (sorry deaf people.)

u/daschande · 5 pointsr/guns

I bought a box of these earplugs and the earmuffs you linked; they work great together, and I won't run out of earplugs for a LONG time! I highly recommend doubling up like 300blackoutdrunk suggested.

u/Zrakk · 5 pointsr/motorcycles

What is the consensus on IEM over this sub? I've been reading a bunch of different opinions on Shure SE215 earplugs and I don't want to make a huge investment if they don't fit well. Also I saw these NoNoise plugs but what stops me of buying the Shure plugs is the fitting.

I have two words for you.. Ear Plugs.

And before you say something about not being able to wear them at work, you can and should purchase some near invisible, low profile versions such as these: https://www.amazon.com/EarDial-Ear-Plugs-Comfortable-High-Fidelity/dp/B00P2NTVPA ..or one of many others.

'Tough love' time: There is no reason to think of yourself as helpless (much less a victim) and become a drag on the system for something so easily mitigated such as this condition we have. All it takes is a bit of thought, determination and action. Rather than looking for the world to help you (because it's not going to), or feeling you're entitled to it; Try helping yourself first.

Outside of work, you can wear earbud headphones as they are so ubiquitous. No one gives them a second thought. You don't even have to have anything pumping through them most of the time. Just wearing them is enough of a muffle to make life quite manageable.

Good luck.

It's already been said but it's a very important thing to have with concerts. Ear protection, ear protection and ear protection.

Highly recommend the EarPeace HD, the difference in audio quality is minimal and I got my recommendation from a few studio guys who swear by them for gigs.

Absolutely love these for track and street, you can reuse them alot and are so cheap you don't mind losing them. I think I reused a pair for a month or two once. They hold up well and don't bother your ears.

Just incase you need another voice to weigh in- BRING THE EAR PLUGS!!!!!

I go to metal shows (death meta mainly, but other sub-genres as well) every so often and only at the most recent 2-3 did I bring ear plugs and wow what a difference. When I leave the venue I no longer have ringing/throbbing in my ears for the rest of the night. I already have tinnitus at 21 and I wish I had gotten ear plugs sooner. Your ears are worth protecting, musicians even wear ear plugs while playing. You cannot reverse the damage to your ears and they are so easily damaged.

If you are curious, these are the ear plus I use. Many percussionists/drummers use them during live sets. I keep the red plug in by default because it blocks out more sound than the green does. The only time this kinda took away from the music was when I saw Hellyeah last summer but it was worth it because I want to be able to enjoy many concerts in the future.

u/jiffener · 4 pointsr/Weakpots

Yeah I might do that. OH! You know what, maybe just my fin-style earplugs. similar to these

Nothing says "I'm not listening to music, I just don't want to hear YOU" like wearing obvious earplugs. LEL

You sound like you may have been around the block, but for whatever it's worth, people close to me had the most success ameliorating their depression with:

  1. Prescribed pharmacology.
  2. Cognitive Behavioral therapy. If there was a single killer technique (and there wasn't, it's a set techniques, but the single most effective...) was writing down three positive things from the day, every night before bed. Doesn't matter how insignificant, from "I got married today" to "Didn't rain", so long as they are genuine positives. The mere act of thinking about them helps encode the idea that life isn't a big shit heap after all.
  3. Cardiovascular exercise. Endorphins, yo.
  4. A structured daily routine, and sticking to a healthy sleep pattern, including taking in the early morning/dawn, as well as unwinding from all the computer screens and active behaviour an hour before bed, if possible.
  5. Ear plugs! It's nuts, but this was the biggest bang-for-buck on the list. They're like $3 a month and result in much deeper, less interrupted sleep (in my friend at least). Depressed people can lie asleep for 16 hours without getting any rest. These are the best, in my opinion.

None of these were a cure, but they helped make life feel like a good thing a lot more.

Honorary mentions (aka "not sure if are placebos"):

  6. A SAD lamp.
  7. Certain fatty acids.

I use the 3M disposable earplugs. It was something like $20 for a 200 pack and they come individually packaged. They've lasted since August for me, riding 5-6 days a week, throwing them away after every ride, still have lots of them left.

Also running a Sena 30K in my Shoei X-Fourteen helmet. The sound quality is great and can be heard easily but the earplugs totally eliminate wind noise, it's great. I would highly recommend this setup. Audiologist recommended to me, and now on to you.

Earplugs link to Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MCUOH2/

Things I can vouch for not working:

  • Mpow Foam earplugs, disposable - comfy and soft and would be great for sleeping, but not for repeated motorcycle use. They're OK, but they just don't fit as well as the 3M's and in the cold weather here right now, they never expand back out all the way.
  • Decibullz Custom Molded Earplugs - expensive as hell, and they block entirely too much sound. If you can't really hear your bike anymore, that's a problem. They also stick out of your ears too far and hit your Sena helmet speakers. No bueno. Also, the foam earpieces need infrequent replacement, running into the same issues as complained about with the Etymotic's I'll review next:
  • Etymotic Research ER20XS High Fidelity earplugs - apparently these don't have the decibel rating advertised, and aren't doing enough to protect your hearing. Also, the foam earpieces only last a week or so, and they're $15 for a 4-pack, so you're spending $15 a month on replacement eartips for earplugs that don't work as well as advertised. Shame, because I really liked these at the start, but now I'm really sold on my disposable 3M's.

I must've spent over $100 on trying all these various setups, and in the end, the cheapest solution is actually the best. It's crazy, but also great.
u/RexiRoo · 4 pointsr/ElectricForest

If you have the room, bring a futon mattress. It won't deflate or pop like an air mattress and you don't have to use a pump or your mouth to blow it up. It provides better support, it's not plastic so it's not cold at night or sweaty during the day. Plus it makes less noise if you're planning on some fun. ;)

Bring Swimmers Earplugs if you want to sleep at night and an eye mask if you want to try to sleep during the day. The swimmers earplugs don't stick out of your ear like some earplugs and they don't put pressure on your inner ear making it easier to fall asleep. The only problem is they are a little gooey.

On the topic of earplugs, please do yourself a favor and buy HiFi Earaser earplugs. As beautiful as this music is, it could seriously damage your hearing. Only downfall to Earasers, because they are so low profile and transparent, they are easy to lose.

The field that GA camps in is regularly used as a cow/horse pasture prior to the festival. Last year we had a few piles of shit in our campsite. Bring a tarp or blanket to put down and bring some extra grocery bags to remove the poop with.

What you want is this. This isn't some type of foamy earplug. These actually keep the noise out and are incredibly comfortable. I've been using those for over a decade.

You'll still be woken up by your alarm if that's what would concern you, meanwhile.

That's terrible. Buy earplugs and a vibrating alarm clock from Amazon.

u/PDXTony · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

read a few of your posts here
foam earplugs work amazing. IF USED CORRECTLY!

you mentioned in another post that they pop out and that is impossible if they are used correctly. They should be rolled up and inserted in the ear canal. not just placed lightly in the ear or pushed in.

Also not all earplugs are the same. I used some my daughter has for drums and they sucked. Felt like my ear was under constant pressure. I purchased these

and they work great. no pain and cut down almost all low end noise. I can still hear the higher range via my sena though.

you can get custom earplugs as well. Talk to your Dr and get a specialist to help out. A lot depends on the range you want them designed for. I would check out online what OSHA suggests. It seems earmuffs work well and I am sure there lower profile ones as well. maybe those and earplugs?

Daily, I wear flanged plugs for my commute, Comply Foam-tipped IEM's for longer rides.

Unfortunately, I've got crap hearing. Too much Metallica and Tool in the 90's. These protect what I've got left.

I've got no trouble hearing traffic through these, even if I'm listening to music/podcasts in the IEMs. I never go above 50% volume when riding.

u/LesZedCB · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

I wear these earplugs with my SMH-10 and they actually balance out the sound really well as well as blocking out wind noise.

I was thinking about buying a better helmet, but for 17 bucks, it's hard to argue with that price.

u/EarplugsForSleeping · 3 pointsr/AskReddit

I have worn earplugs every night for at least 10 years without issue.

After much trial and error, the very best plugs you can use for long periods are the Howard Leight LPF-1 (http://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-LPF-1-Uncorded-Earplugs/dp/B000RMFGGY). LPF stands for 'low pressure foam' which means your ears will not hurt after wearing them all night.

I re-use these for about a week before I move to a new pair, so a 200-pair box lasts about 4 years. Highly recommended.

u/Spacedandtimed · 3 pointsr/guns

I've tried Etymotic, standard fit, and they just ended up hurting my ear canals. Unfortunately they only have "standard fit" and "large fit". With no option for a smaller fit I had to look for an alternative.

Yeah I wear them correctly. I wear them at night too, though a different brand. The ones I have worn while riding are Howard Leight LaserLite earplugs. I like them a lot.

At night I wear these, which I would not wear while riding because they block out practically all noise.

I went to a David Bowie concert on my 15th birthday (Sound & Vision tour with Adrian Belew). Heaven on earth, but HELL on my ears. They rang/vacuum cleaned for a good 3-4 days afterwards and I was terrified.

Thankfully, my hearing went back to normal and I have worn earplugs at anything that's potentially loud since. I second the Hearos or these, which are apparently even better at blocking out decibel levels and fit more snugly and deeper in my tiny ear canals. Just treated myself to a gigantic container of them.

Once is all it takes.

u/buckyboo22 · 3 pointsr/guns

You're getting good suggestions on firearms to look at (M&P Shield in 9mm!), but I wanted to ensure that you understood that you need to buy more than just a gun and that $500 isn't enough money to get started carrying safely. Here's a variation of my cost breakdown from a prior thread where someone had a $1000 budget to getting started:

  • S&W M&P Shield 9mm - $380
  • Remora holster - $15
  • Federal HST/Hornady Critical Defense carry ammunition - $25
  • Eye protection - $10
  • Ear protection - $65
  • Ear protection again - $9

I'm leaving out a range bag ($30) since I assume you already have a bag to carry the accessories to/from the range. I also didn't include a more expensive clip holster such as the Black Arch Proto ($80) and a belt.

That puts you at $504 before any taxes, shipping, and transfer fees. Other guns mentioned in this thread (the Glocks specifically) cost quite a bit more than $380, and thus your total cost will be well above $500.

At that point you actually have to learn how to shoot and how to carry safely. That means spending money on:

  • A handgun class ($100+)
  • Range fees (varies)
  • Practice ammo (~$12 a box)

Also don't forget to account for the cost of your carry permit. Depending on where you live and what required classes you have to take that could easily consume $250.

To make them less obtrusive I cut off the wide end and insert the rest, then it is hardly noticeable. Just be careful not to get it stuck in the ear, especially if it is raining and it gets wet. Had that happen once, just had to use a tweezer to get it out.

u/chackoc · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

As /u/sumo_steve said, if you want BIFL you're best option is likely to be a custom silicone or acrylic plug, ideally built by an audiologist.

Personally I used a do-it-yourself kit from Amazon and the end product should be BIFL, but I assume you would get a better fit and better overall noise attenuation by going to an audiologist.

Note that while the plug itself should be BIFL, my understanding is that the ear canal's shape changes over time so realistically you might need to get new plugs a few years down the road.

Still if BIFL is your primary criteria, silicone or acrylic will last order's of magnitude longer than any foam plug you could buy.

If you don't mind spending $40, it appears the earasers are among the best on the market. I've heard some horror stories of Dubs brand ear plugs falling apart in people ears resulting in doctors visits. Erasers come in many different sizes. Source: did hella googling and it appears these have good sound and build quality comparable to custom ear plugs. If you are spending $15-20 on a crap pair, might as well fork out the extra $20 and get a lasting, quality pair IMO.

u/ReeferSutherland24 · 3 pointsr/bassnectar

Yeah, but you gotta spend a little to not ruin the sound quality.

These ones are supposed to be the best, according to this reddit thread. I am going to get some before the next show I go to.

Edit: they're $40 so they're not crazy expensive. I'd say it's worth the money to (a) not wreck your ears and (b) still hear that sweet, sweet nectar.

u/dyslexicsuntied · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

I disagree. With earplugs and a full face helmet I feel completely isolated in the city, and not in a good way. I check my mirrors all the time, head check every lane change, but wearing earplugs is extremely disorienting for me. If I am going for a longer ride I will stop once I get out of town to put them in, and take them out as I get closer. I have these

If small noises waking you up is a major part of the problem, let me C&P my reply to another post:

Two solutions would be (A) wear ear plugs, or (B) get a white noise source in your room.

You could even combine them. For instance, recently, there has been heavy construction in my building starting every day at 8 (jack-hammering, hammering, etc.) that reverberates through the whole structure. It's so noisy that even ear plugs don't block out the sound. However, I've discovered that if I wear in-ear ear buds and play low-frequency white noise (this track is good) at med volume, it totally drowns out the sounds of the construction. It sounds a bit like the whoosh/rumble you hear on an airplane, so I can still fall asleep to it.

If you prefer earplugs, my experience is that these Moldex ones block out the most sound, more than 3M, as they are longer and denser.

If you absolutely can't tolerate sleeping with anything in your ears, then you could also get a loud fan or other white noise source (or just play the noise over speakers with decent bass).

Hope that helps.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

> What brands make helmets that are quieter?... Wind noise isn't the problem

When people talk about helmets being quiet, they are talking about a reduction in wind noise.

These are what I use for ear plugs, I grab them from work, they have the best NRR you can buy.

u/civex · 2 pointsr/travel

I take an inflatable U-shaped pillow. I put it on backwards, with the opening in the back and drop my head on the cushion on my chest or shoulder. Most seats don't recline enough to use it as a pillow in the back. Some do slowly deflate; some don't. No big deal to me as they're quick to blow back up (one long breath for me), and the deflate, fold, and pack into very small spaces on my carryon.

Ear plugs -- I recommend these instead of the foam inserts that you roll up before inserting. The foam ones don't stay in for me, and they aren't nearly as effective ad the silicone baffle-style. I have a different brand than this, so you don't have to buy any particular brand. You can clean them and reuse them. Foam ones get ear gunk on them, and you can't clean them.

A blindfold.

Either a small blanket or a warm sweater or fleece.

I wear a photographer's vest. It's the equivalent of another carry on. I carry my reading materials (magazines, paperbacks), reading glasses, my iPod and ear phones, small flashlight, notepad & pen, tickets, passport, printout of my travel agenda, and such.

Take a small camera on board. Photos of your meals, video of passenger fist fights, photos of gorgeous cloud formations if you have a window seat, video of take off and landing, whatever.

Here's the real best tip: for a trip this long, upgrade to business class.

+2 for Moldex ear plugs. I run the "Spark Plugs" variant here for over a decade and they're great. Very comfortable, fit in small ear canals, greatly diminish the road and wind noise.

These foam ones work best for me: https://smile.amazon.com/Flents-Quiet-Please-Plugs-Pair/dp/B001J4HB1C/ref=sr_1_40?keywords=sleeping+earplugs&qid=1574567688&sr=8-40

Re-usable silicone ones can also work.

I tried these Amazker 60 pair ones first but they put too much pressure on my ears, I can feel it when I wake up. Only using those as backup and for motorcycling.

I think I'll try Howard leight low pressure foam ones next.

u/CSpotRunCPlusPlus · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Use foam earplugs.

Maybe not that exact brand, but something similar.

They're soft. Fold them in half and stick the bent end into your ear, makes them easy to take out.

I've used foam ear plugs for entire shifts working construction with heavy machinery. So they're pretty good.

If you think you'll look weird, try putting headphones on top of them.

u/OrbisTerre · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I use 2 of the spacers to get the speakers closer. I just use these foam earplugs.

Having a hole makes sense, but those ER20's look like they would stick out too far, get caught on the helmet lining.

What kind of rifle and what caliber were you using? Were you shooting off a bench, prone, standing? As for the earmuff issue, just bring a decent pair of foam earplugs next time. Personally I use these.

It's the white noise. Its the restaurants with stone walls and nothing to soak up the sounds. Stadiums are the worst.

Get yourself some musician earplugs that filter sound.

I am a wedding/event/performance photographer and I am constantly in loud crowds and at concerts with my head next to the speakers.

They have a little metal canister I attach to my keychain.

These are also REALLY awesome for movies that are way too loud in cinemas.

These will still allow you to hear people talking at a slightly elevated volume next to you in a dance club. They are awesome.

u/s0briquet · 2 pointsr/Bass

I earned my tinnitus by going to a lot of shows over the years, sitting in on practices, and having jam sessions.

How do I feel about it? Well... it's never going away, so I've accepted it. I wish I would have listened to my elders way back when I was your age, and wore some damn ear plugs to the shows. I definitely don't head to a show these days without a pair.

How do I deal with it? - Like a lot of others, I sleep with a fan on. At the office, I listen to music pretty much all day, but I use a fairly expensive rig on my desk, because shitty, tinny sounding "computer speakers" irritate the shit out of my tinnitus. (edit: you can get much better "monitors" than these for less money. I got mine refurb'd)

So the logical question is, "What kind of ear plugs do you recommend". My answer to that depends on how much money you want to spend. I'm a big fan of Vater and Hearo's hi-fi. I like the Vaters a little better, because they come with that little sealed tube, which you can put some rubbing alcohol in, and they're always clean. However, I do think the Hearo's hi-fi ones sound a little better. At the end of the day, they're both good choices, cuz they just turn down the volume without messing with the frequencies very much.

If you've got a bit of extra scratch to spend, then you can go to the audiologist, and get custom moulded ear plugs. They'll perform the best, but they're also the most expensive. My friend had this done, and I think he paid $120-150 for the set, and lost them within like 6 months, and went back to the Hearo's.

u/ADHD-FrontalLobe404 · 2 pointsr/bipolar

You're not being unreasonable. You're trying your best to cope with the situation you've been dealt.

Try as best as you can to get space and have a quiet zone. Buy some good earbuds or headphones that reduce background noise. I also have these ear buds that I use if I'm in public, they're what people use in bands. Something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Vater-VSAS-Safe-Sound-Plugs/dp/B002RWKR7K. It makes over stimulating simulations much more tolerable.

Try to keep your visual stimulation low - don't watch super intense movies or go into crowds.

These are about the same price, come with a better container, you can change the level of dampening, and the cord to connect them is a godsend, especially if you're constantly taking one out to hear/talk to your friends.

u/tequilafriday · 2 pointsr/migraine

I also have times when I need to block out all noises - sometimes during migraines, sometimes I just need to concentrate. I often use foam earplugs in ADDITION TO noise protection ear muffs. I don't ever leave the house looking like this, but it works great for getting heads-down into some concentration-required work in my home office. This combination is VERY, VERY effective at cutting down unwanted noises. Just my two cents.

Here are a couple of cost effective product examples.

u/fanta_romanta · 2 pointsr/Atlanta

Agreed, squishy foam ear plugs will do ya good. I never go on vacation without a handful of these, just never know

u/brownbear454 · 2 pointsr/IWantToLearn

I use Howard Leight earplugs from amazon

They're cheap, comfortable, effective, and I'm pretty sure they're used by construction workers who need to be able to hear alarms. Anyway, I've never missed an alarm on my phone even though it's set to the lowest setting. Certain frequencies are able to go though the earplugs so I recommend getting these earplugs and testing different alarms to see what you hear best.

u/fla_mingo · 2 pointsr/sleep

I used to have this problem and tried several brands. I would put ear plugs in as far as they would go and my ears would hurt. If I didn't put them in that far, they would fall out during the night.

Then I found these ones:

http://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Laser-Earplugs-Cords/dp/B003628ODO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425979873&sr=8-1&keywords=howard+leight+laser

I love them! They are just really soft and squishy so I put them half in but they never fall out. I also bought a Marpac Dohm white noise machine but I think I prefer the sound of a fan in summer.

u/Mirin4Life · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

I use these ear plugs, Best so far I've used. My dad enjoys making the loudest sounds possible at 5 in the morning, Being able to block out that noise has been a game changer

I've been using earplugs for pretty much every concert since I was 15. I'm glad I did because I have been to at least 3-4 concerts a year since then and I would definitely have hearing loss by now.

I used to use the cheap drugstore earplugs but I've upgraded to these a few years ago after I started swimming again. I haven't noticed any sound quality issues at concerts with these but my friends said they muffled some of the higher frequencies when we were at Iron Maiden last month. I still recommend them over other earplugs as they are a lot more comfortable than the ones that go into your ear canal.

Those are two I use (first link I use for on the road, cheap and disposable, try these first; second are pretty pricey but more noise cancellation, they do insert into your ears though, so you might just want to stick with the first link). Theyre even great for swimming to avoid swimmers ear. I'm still doing a lot of uni work and my sleep is imperative for me for athletics and school.

these are the earplugs you want. 33db rating is very high for a disposable earplug. if youre regularly at an indoor range i would suggest buying some over-ear muffs and doubling up on your ear protection. once your ears are fugged, theyre fugged; so, be very cautious and always use your ear protection even if you dont think you need it.

personally I think the party plugs are too strong and make the music too quiet, also the sound gets too bass intense(because higher frequencies are filtered out more) imo
I have found the alpine musicsafe pro with white filter to be way better because they filter reasonably good for protection while the music still being loud enough(party plugs are like 21 db and the musicsafe white about 14 db) and also the frequencies filtered are more even (comapre the filter graphs of these)
Bonus: if its still too loud you can switch out the filters

I really like concert ear plugs, I held off on getting some for a while because I used to wear the cheap foam ones to noisy events and they hurt my ears after a while. I bought these for a stadium concert I went to recently and they did a great job - because they're made of higher quality material, they feel soft and don't hurt my ears at all. They are very effective. You do have to squish them with your fingers and mold them into a slightly cylindrical shape to get them deep enough into your ear canal (but not so deep that you can't pull them out.) Came here to say this. They sound like a good idea... and they aren't.

My gang usually just buys basic ear plugs from a construction equipment store. Smth like this: https://www.constructiongear.com/holemaeaboxo.html or https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000BYAP7I/?tag=ybduk-21 - 30 bucks for a box of 100/200, and they work well enough against a 12ga outdoor (would probably be kinda meh for indoor use of a short-barrel .223 with a muzzle comp.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000BYAP7I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also bought a dog whistle to silence the neighbor's dog.

u/andero · 1 pointr/Nootropics

How do you know your sleep is bad? Insomnia? or tired the next day?

I like total darkness and silence for sleep, so I recommend a good-quality soft sleep mask (not some dollar-store shit). That mask comes with this type of ear-plugs, which are by far my fav (and I have tried probably a dozen types of ear-plugs at my old job).

If I need to sleep earlier to get up early I go for melatonin, first an hour or two before I want to sleep, then again as I am going to bed. When I wake up, first thing is 200mg of caffeine pills. I meditate daily also so by the time I am done meditating I can feel the caffeine. Then hot shower and I am awake enough to make the early day.

Otherwise, make getting enough sleep a priority. Sleep when you feel tired and wake up when you feel rested (with no alarm if at all possible, though this is often not possible for a lot of jobs).

I use this bag as a gear bag. I use this bag as a pistol bag. I use these ear muffs for pistol shooting and sometimes for rifle shooting but I find they get in the way with a rifle. So with a rifle, I usually just use these ear plugs.

A respirator is awesome. I highly recommend the 3M 7500 series (e.g. 7502). The vent on the 7500 faces downwards, so if you're wearing a face shield (as I do when running a bench or angle grinder), it won't fog the shield. Amazon Link

The P100 "Pancake" filter are a good match. Low profile and organic vapor relief (i.e. good working with small amounts of solvents). Another Link

Finally, for ear protection, I like earplugs with a string attached. Easy to take in and out and low profile if you're also wearing a faceshield or welding helmet, or whatever. example

Cheap enough that if I lose a set, i won't get upset, but they are good enough that I can still hear, but protects my hearing from wind noise while riding, and gunfire when shooting.

Having extras is always a good idea, last time I was on a group ride, one of the riders forgot his and was getting windblown, so I gave him a set.

Russia is quiet, but I don't think you'll like it there otherwise.

As a temporary solution, soft foam in-ear earplugs combined with over-the-ear headphones (construction or noise-cancelling) bring the noise to more tolerable levels for me. When the inside of the ear get's too irritated, replace the in-ear part with soft silicone putty earplugs for swimmers. I usually use silicon putty overnight, and foam plugs during the day, because they have 10 dB better protection rating.

I think people become deafened by this noise over time and after that they can only scream.

I'd just like to point out that I ordered the Surefire EP7 earplugs that have the same forfactor and these do not bode well with my current helmet, the Scorpion R-2000. It is extremely painful to put on, wear, and remove my helmet with these eaprlugs unfortunately.

If you cannot fit a pair of earbud headphones into your helmet comfortable, these will likely not work for you. In that case just order a pack of disposable earbuds.

You can also put yourself in your own private sound bubble by popping in earbuds and then putting a pair of these over them. Not the comfiest thing in the world in the long run, but for an hour or two it works very very well in my experience.

Real life pro tip: buy some cheap foam earplugs off Amazon, and cut them in half. They will dampen the sound enough to prevent your ears ringing, are slim enough that almost no one can tell you’re wearing them, and you’ll have about 50 pairs for $10. Do not push them too far in your ear though.

Any guitar shop will have filtered ear plugs, which do not diminish the sound quality only reduce the volume. You want something like this. They significantly improve the experience.

Hearos are definitely what you're looking for. Vater also makes a similar style plug that comes with a case for around the same price.

Also, you definitely do not want plugs for shooting guns as they reduce too much noise. Hearos have a noise reduction rating of 12db, while ear plugs for guns/heavy equipment are usually 30+ I've used those a few times and for me they were frustrating because I couldn't hear enough.

u/cjeffcoatjr · 1 pointr/drums

The Wirecutter recommends Mack’s Ultra Soft Foam earplugs for travellers. They say besides being comfortable and cheap, they have a noise reduction rate of 32 dB.

At that time, there are not that many places to study. The Starbucks where I used to go was open until 10:30. It's not quiet, but it's a nice place to study with the music.

You can actually try to find an empty classroom to study in sometimes.

I recommend getting earplugs. I like these ones a lot. I also recommend you wear ear-buds and listen to music while you study. I usually listened to Tycho while I studied. Sometimes I would also listen to Thomas Newman and Blackmill. I never used to listen to music while I studied in high school. I had to when I got to college and I very much enjoyed it. I got used to listening to music.

Why can't you study in your bedroom? Don't you have a desk?

Doesn't your roommate study? Some freshman don't study enough and then they will flunk out of school. You can try to take night classes next semester and study during the day when your roommate isn't home.

If it's a JetBlue flight they always have T.V.s on the plane, which have free movies that can distract you from the sound and block it out if they're loud enough. Idk about other airlines, but you should ask your parents. The T.V.s helped me a ton when I was travelling on a three hour flight with my brother and his kids, who all chew so loudly that I could hear it across the aisle, not to mention the lady next to me smacking her gum. If not, would it be possible for you to buy those ear plugs they use at gun ranges? Those are literally designed for blocking out excessive noise from gunshots, so they're fairly effective (not foolproof, though).

I can recommend musician's earplugs I ordered on Amazon awhile back. They reduce the volume but still let you hear sound clearly.

These 'eardial invisible earplugs' are rated to reduce sound by 11db. The foam earplugs block a lot more sound than any musicians earplugs but musician earplugs still do a great job and are more functional. This model is on the smaller side and fit my ears better than any other earplug I've tried. Just a warning thought they aren't actually invisible just somewhat hard to see imo.

Another one I've tried are these 'eargasm high fidelity earplugs'. It's rated to reduce sound by 15db. Both of the earplugs I linked to come with a keychain holder that comes in useful when out and about. If I had to choose between the two I'd go with the first because it fits better but they really both deaden noise to a more tolerable level when my ears are sensitive.

I have a pair of EarDial earplugs (see here). They work pretty well. They're comfortable. They're subtle enough that most people won't notice you're wearing them. Plus, the carrying case is tiny and unobtrusive on a keychain, so I can just carry them with me wherever I go without having to remember to bring them.

Avant d'investir, essaie toujours d'en prendre des "basiques", peut être que ça suffira. Et au moins si tu les perds tu seras pas trop dégoûté. J'ai celles-là moi, en plus elles peuvent se foutre sur un anneau du porte-clefs.

You can definitely combo ear plugs and ear muffs, I've found that it helps a lot. If you want to still preserve your ears while still doing loud activities, you might consider something similar to these:

https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-PartyPlug-Plugs-Music-Environments/dp/B00REB9VTO

Those are ear plugs that only diminish the sound, not muffle it. (They're pretty popular now, I'm sure everybody here knows about them or has used them).

Because (for me) dancing is the best form of enjoying music. Also nobody is going to say anything to you about the way you are dancing, 99% of people doesn't give a shit about that. If music is too loud you can try wearing earplugs.

Buy some high quality plugs. Worked at / been to thousands of shows with very loud bands. These are probably the only thing stopping me from going deaf.

I've got a set of eargasm ear plugs and I like them way better than any others I've tried for exactly this reason.

u/Kraz31 · 1 pointr/motorcycles

The non-foam plugs, like NoNoise or Eargasm, block the low frequency wind and engine noise while letting through the higher frequency environmental noises.

Haha. Only the most discerning customer deserves these earplugs sir. (rich guy laugh)

Honestly, they are pretty nice. You still hear sound normally, not that plugged up feeling you get with the orange scrunchies

I have Eargasm Earplugs for small ear canals. Work pretty well:

Honestly, you've gotten a lot of answers. Several of the popular higher quality earplugs were mentioned and are mentioned by others and in the threads I linked.

As I said - many of them have different sizes to choose from. You can read the reviews on them on Amazon and search for "smaller ears" such as these.

You've also gotten more than one answer suggesting custom ones, which is truly the best way to get earplugs that work for you.

I like Eargasm earplugs. They block out high noise levels (like blaring speakers) but you can hear a person talking to you with perfect clarity. They even come with a small mental keyring carry case that's easy to strap into my bag.

u/purseandboots · 1 pointr/lifeisbeautifulLV

I use EarPeace earplugs. The sound is still clear and loud, just not damaging. They also come with 3 different inserts for different levels of quietness. Also come in handy for your hotel room/camp afterwards if you have some snorers in your group.

Thanks mate!

These things? https://www.amazon.co.uk/EarPeace-Concert-Ear-Plugs-Protection/dp/B076VTXWBP

The past couple days have been better. I've been eating a lot better and have reduced my workload at work which has helped. Had a good ten minutes of silence today and it was incredible. Really appreciate the advice. There's a lot of good stuff on this sub. Apart from the suicidal thoughts and such.

I used the Earpeace HD at Chicago. https://www.amazon.com/EarPeace-Concert-Ear-Plugs-Protection/dp/B076VTXWBP?th=1 I felt it vibrate at the beginning of the show because of the low-end/bass, but then it had a solid seal afterwards for the rest of the performance. It reduced the volume of screaming greatly, while I could still hear the music and each meets. No ringing in my ears afterwards!

I have these earplugs they really help me cut down on noise stimulation.

Just a very short pseudo-review: I ordered four or five kinds, but I've tried only two because the rest seem to be variations of one of them and I'm already quite happy with one of them. The two I tried are Earasers and Ear Peace HD.

Earasers are very comfortable and seem durable, but they block less sound than I was expecting.

Ear Peace HD are comfortable, seem durable, and come with three different filters, for three levels of sound blocking. So far these are my favorites, and I'm satisfied enough with them that I see no reason to keep buying and trying. In terms of comfort, they're a step up from the orange bois. They also come with an extra ear plug and an extra of each filter -- which is a nice touch. The metal keychain carrying case is heavy duty and excellent, though maybe too bulky to carry around in my pocket.

For the foreseeable future, Ear Peace HD will be my go-to earplug. I doubt I'll use more than one set of filters, but having the other two, in case I need them, is reassuring.

Someday I'll probably invest in custom ACS molded. I did a bit of research on molded earplugs (JH, Westone, and ACS), and most who have tried more than one brand prefer ACS. Like the Ear Peace HD, the ACS uses sound filters that can be swapped. (I'm guessing the JH and Westone do too).

These are the best that I've found:
http://www.amazon.com/3M-Peltor-Tri-Flange-Plugs-3-Pack/dp/B000DZF7T6/ref=sr_1_4?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1411513668&sr=1-4

I think I bought 3 packs of them, because you can't find them often enough when you need it. I use them for sleeping (wife snored while pregnant), though I cut off the strings, which can get noisy.

But DAMN do those things do a great job cutting out noise.

I'm a new rider and I'm aware of the hearing risk so I've tried earplugs.. but am I the only one who thinks the entire riding experience is ruined by wearing them? I guess for me a large part of the enjoyment on the bike is hearing the bike accelerate. I actually find riding boring with earplugs in. I can understand if you are going on a freeway trip.. But I would probably just take the car anyway.

I have a giant box of these in my closet. Maybe they are too quiet? I've even tried to put them in my ear rather shallow, but still it takes the enjoyment out of riding for me.. I'm open to suggestions.. What do you guys wear?
