4 inches of this should do the trick, just glue or anchor it down on the outside of where the wheels will cross and you should be golden.

What I like to do is zip them together in bundles, and then use anchors to keep them in place. Of course, this is semi-permanent, so not great if you keep changing your configuration or moving components. For a less permanent solution, velcro cable ties are great for at least bundling the cables.

u/Sewwattsnew · 12 pointsr/Pets

I wouldn't put them outside, especially if they've gone so long without learning how to stay safe out there. If your neighbors are so far away, I'd be worried about what sort of wildlife you have in your area. I doubt the cats are maliciously targeting your things alone, they probably have just decided that "wires over here are fun" and not extended the concept to other wires. Or they like chewing on wires that were near you.

I watched my cat destroy a cell phone cord one day. It was quite thin, he just casually walked up and bit it, the way outdoor cats will approach long blades of grass, and that was it. It was too thin to hold up to even one bite. It wasn't malicious, and I think he was as surprised as I was that it broke so easily. (Although maybe the look of surprise was that I was rushing towards him saying, "No! Bad cat!")

Regardless, it sounds like you need to protect your wires. Bitter sprays have never really worked on my cat, but are worth a shot. I'd personally go with wire covers. (I'd put one on your wife's mouse, too, just in case they re-direct their attention to it when they can't get to yours. I'd also cover any wires that are similarly thin.)

There are a lot of options. This one looks like it might be exactly what you need. There's also a larger size for power cords. Or, if you want to cover every wire, there's a bulk option.

You might also want to provide them with cat grass so they have an appropriate outlet for all their chewing.

u/TurtleBoiCudge · 10 pointsr/battlestations

This would look 10x better if you fixed those cables. I would use this for the monitor cables and this for the PC cables.

EDIT: I didn't know what heat shrink was, will investigate for next project.

It's not heat shrink, it's this stuff.

Try something like this: Cord Protector - CritterCord - A New Way to Protect Your Pet from Chewing Hazardous Cords https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EH2I5O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Qx4CxbQNADVVZ

Also, wrapping the cords in tin foil might help. Cats don't like the way it feels on their teeth.

u/BooksofMagic · 9 pointsr/techsupportmacgyver

Then get the black zip ties. Or jazz it up with some colored ones instead. This is your world. You are the creator.

u/chancethebanker · 9 pointsr/battlestations

I have a similar standing desk and got something like this and a standard cable management tray and mounted both underneath my desk at the back. You can use any normal powerstrip but I wanted the wider one because of some larger power blocks and and because I wanted to more evenly distribute the weight. That way I really only have 1 cord that comes off my desk similar to the one you see here on the right.

Edit: I am actually really interested in how you wired the lights. It looks like you punched through the carpet. Did you do that when installing or am I missing something? Did you do the same for ethernet?

u/AudioPhoenix · 8 pointsr/sysadmin

Ideal data closet for me would be

  • Solid wooden door with a hefty lock or access control and self closing/self locking mechanism
  • Ladder Rack between server and network racks
  • at least one plywood wall for mounting non-rack mountable equipment and all the random phone and ISP related nonsense.
  • at least 3 electrical circuits that have their own breaker. (one for each redundant power supply to the server/battery backup in between and one for everything non-essential
  • Mini-Split AC system (or two)
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Security camera(s)
  • Not carpeted. I'd take polished cement over carpet, but tile is probably ideal.
  • As many power ports as possible, or those really large power strips are great.
  • A phone in the server room is always nice

Another cool thing I've used is this cable wrap
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FW3GTXB

makes things look slick and it's easy to add cables in as needed. I usually just throw a few pieces of velcro around it and call it a day. If you ever have to add a wire you can easily slide it in.
u/Bohan_of_Rohan · 6 pointsr/betterbattlestations

Here ya go. I've done a few similar projects and I've used these everytime. They make cable management super easy and super fast.

u/dramboxf · 6 pointsr/homelab

A company I used to work for used Panduit plastic conduits for their industrial cabinets. There were always chunks left over since they cut them to size; I grabbed a few and screwed them into the legs of my desk and ran everything through that. The wife was insanely happy.

That's also when I learned to not use ZIP ties.

u/bleepblorp · 6 pointsr/DIY

Not that you plan on changing it up too much, but I would recommend replacing the zip ties with velcro ties instead. That way if you ever have to take them off, you don't risk snipping a cable by accident. Ask me how I know :(

u/ChoosyBeggars · 6 pointsr/bartenders

So bummed this isn't a thing, except every post would be "TIL (today i learned) LEMON JJUICE IS PERSERVATIVE?!" and now I'm relieved it's not. Because we all know there's one and only one bar hack.

u/ryzzie · 5 pointsr/konmari

So for wall mounted TVs I recommend a cable raceway (similar to this) to disguise the cable on the wall. You can adhere to the wall with command strips or other double-stick.

You can also use this for the lamp cord. I recommend moving the lamp closer to the wall. If there is excess cord, you can often feed it back into the lamp base. If your lamp base doesn't have a bottom, you can neatly (and gently) coil (DO NOT CREASE) the excess cord and secure with cable ties (I like this stuff because it only takes a little, and it's repositionable, unlike zip-ties).

As far as the power brick and excess cord to the wall...I would recommend placing an entertainment center (games????) OR some kind of decorative something that sparks JOY! Maybe something that can function as storage for something you need in the room, but don't want laying about (remote controls, etc).

Pro-tip: it may be tempting to pull cords SUPER tight, but keep a little slack to ensure the cable isn't being bent at the connectors.

Good luck, and please share your end solution with us!

Zip ties. Various sizes.

Once everything is connected, try to find places where you can anchor a zip tie to tidy things up. It's usually pretty easy around unused drive bays. If there's no place at all to put one, you can use these.

u/Regnant · 5 pointsr/chinchilla

Great idea! I might have to do this myself!

As for protecting the cord, you could try one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Cord-Protector-CritterCord-Protect-Hazardous/dp/B000EH2I5O

Springs work well too since they're metal. I'm sure a trip to your local hardware store can probably help for finding random plastic tubes that could fit over a cord!

Haha, that's usually the reaction I get when I break this bad boy out. I got indoctrinated to them through the aviation business a long time ago, which is where the one in the picture came from. I've also bought these ones from amazon for PC cable management that work very well.

Easy fix.

Use cable trays on the bottom of the desk: https://www.amazon.com/WireTamer-Cable-Management-Tray-Black/dp/B01BVYW7UY/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=cable+tray&qid=1571879377&sr=8-4

Then screw in a large strip cord to the bottom: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036DEC48/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Some cable clips to top it off (use your favorite style, there are plenty): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075Y9J42T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then run them down the legs from the bottom of the desk, just use Velcro straps or something :)

Here are both of my main setups using only those products: https://imgur.com/a/67TxbQQ

u/dfever · 5 pointsr/CafeRacers

custom means nothing. smearing shit all over the bike is ‘custom’ but do you want that? ignore custom, and look for craftsmanship and quality. for example the headlight brackets on the front are some cheap chinese crap off ebay. or the cable organizer.or the license plate bracket . that says cheap and corner cutting. if that’s the case, the price should reflect it. although I dont believe such an awesome, iconic bike deserves these subpar parts.

u/enna12 · 5 pointsr/HomeDecorating

They make cord covers like this that you can put down by the trim & either leave white to match the trim or paint beige to match the wall.

u/AlmightyGnasher · 5 pointsr/battlestations

Bought everything. The desk itself is from Etsy. I stuck cable raceways around the outside of the desk, they're awesome I recommend them. Other than that double sided sticky pads and cable clips come in handy for sticking power packs and extension leads under the desk.

u/White_Phoenix · 5 pointsr/Kappa

The excuse some of these people make is that they're in living arrangements where you may not be able to do such a thing. All I can think of is just run a goddamn wire against the wall. You can make a cable run look clean if you put it as close to thew all as possible and if you have to cross floors fuckin use cable raceways with that adhesive on the back to cover it up:

https://www.amazon.com/One-Cord-Channel-Cable-Concealer-Management/dp/B07D8WVJWF

Problem fucking solved. That way you don't make holes in your wall to do it and it looks clean.

u/Vertisce · 4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I can tell you that THIS is literally what is used in that image because that image is what is used in the images on the sale page. I can further attest that these are absolutely amazing and worth every penny! Also...not expensive at all.

u/AtlasGallivant · 4 pointsr/hometheater

Not really a permanent fix, and you mentioned being open to professional solutions so you're likely in a position to cut into the wall... But if for some reason you're looking for a quick fix, look into cable runners if you haven't already. You can find them at Home Depot/Lowe's and can paint them to match the color of your wall.

Again, not the best solution, but I've used it when I didn't want to run wires through the wall/ceiling.

u/nastysam · 4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Makes sense to have the cable cross where you have it but you will really wish you had this the day the lights are out and you trip over the cable yanking the cord at an angle causing damage to the port.

u/AlphaMoose67 · 4 pointsr/smarthome

Not my picture but this is what I plan on doing

E: Something like this will go along way towards making whatever you decide on look much cleaner.

u/Sycobob · 4 pointsr/CableManagement

Here's a short album of my recent 650D build. There are 3 shots from the back from various points in the process. It's a pretty tight fit back there (giggity) and the most difficult part for me was the flat SATA cables. These little suckers made my life so much easier, and I'd highly recommend them. Some round SATA cables would probably help as well.

u/wordgirrl · 4 pointsr/cats

Try these Cord Protector - CritterCord - A New Way to Protect Your Pet from Chewing Hazardous Cords https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EH2I5O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yd6ZBbY88G20N. They also come in special sizes for specific kinds of cords.
I’ve been with my husband for 20 years now, and he still doesn’t get cat-proofing. Sorry to bear bad news.
Also you might consider a crate for her when she can’t be supervised, just like we do for dogs. You can find pretty large ones, big enough for you to walk into and hang out, which you can do while training her what a great place it is. Feed her only in there, put her favorite toys and comforts in there, and she’ll learn to like it.

u/ibattletherous · 4 pointsr/Pets

My youngest cat has a thing for HDMI cables - he's eaten at least $100 in HDMI cables. Nothing I sprayed on them worked (tried bitter apple and a cayenne pepper solution). Finally I found this : Critter Cable. It's the only thing that has been able to keep his sharp little teeth out of my wires. It is absolutely worth the expense.

u/switchninja · 4 pointsr/Seattle

You should have n+1 litter boxes for the cats, where n is the number of cats. So ideally you should have 3 litter boxes in your situation.

Do they have elevated places to sit and survey the room(s)? There should ideally be one for each of your cats so territory wars don't ensue.

Also what does 'smelly dumps' mean? Have they always been smelly or is this a new development? If it's a new development, and not a result of a diet change, you should take him to a vet. And yea, like someone else already asked, what kind of cat litter are you using?

Regarding cables, they make stuff like this.

u/sonsofaureus · 4 pointsr/battlestations

I know you said it's complete, but if I may suggest - I would add 1 more leg near where the monitor mounts - to keep the long desktop from bowing in the future.
Also some Alex drawers, like everyone else, for storage.

Also, cable management doesn't look bad to me. You'll always have that one wire going to the subwoofer anyway. A pack of these or some cable sleeving seems sufficient for that.

u/Aiirzyismynameo · 4 pointsr/battlestations

I really recommend This!

Really can find it anywhere and maybe some cable ties. You can pick them up at any hardware store. If you want to keep it simple!

Don't let this hooligans fool ya. LED's are awesome, more screens the better. I'm not sure if you use that box as a foot stool but if not you should move it so you have room for your feet.

  1. As someone else said move the LED strip to the back of your desk.

  2. Again as someone else said move that one speaker to the correct side. However, you don't need to discard a monitor for that. Just put it behind where the monitors meet. So long as the speaker isn't covered too much it shouldn't hinder sound coming out of it. Heck, if you wanted you could lay the speaker on its side. I'm not much of an audiophile and don't have those speakers so your mileage may vary. Are those speakers hooked up to a stereo, computer, or maybe a DAC? If it's a DAC then you could easily mount that to the underside of the desk with some double sided tape or Velcro tape. I prefer Velcro tape myself.

  3. Once more, as someone said mount those headphone somewhere when you're not using them. Seems you have space to the left of your desk for that. If you like using that space yourself then you could just mount a holder on the underside of your desk. They're super cheap on Amazon, and anything like this will work fine.

  4. It's hard to see how much cable clutter you have. Best thing you can do is bundle as many cables together as possible. A good way to do this is with veclro ties. The more peripherals you get the more cables you have. Some will have their own power bricks and some will have cable length as if you were supposed to use the thing in another room. To deter this I would recommend cable trays to mount to the bottom of the desk. One other thing that can help for cable management is a cable sleeve which is helpful for tiding up those cables as they go to your PC.

  5. Basically mount anything and everything you can to the bottom of your desk to hide as much as possible from view.
u/telos0 · 4 pointsr/WindowsMR

I bought a Vive Link Box to use as a signal/power booster in the middle, and it works great. This cured all my dropouts and audio glitches, as well as giving my system a Bluetooth radio.

This setup works great:

  1. Vive Link Box
  2. Vive Link Box Power Supply
  3. 12 ft Power cable extension for Vive Link Box
  4. 10 ft USB 3.0 extension cable
  5. 10 ft Amazon Basics HDMI cable
  6. Wire wrap to keep everything tidy

Make sure you power cycle the Vive Link Box whenever you plug or unplug anything into it to for it to reinitialize and detect the headset.

I really wish there was a more elegant solution, but so far this works the best for me.
u/korpo53 · 4 pointsr/homelab

They have that cable raceway stuff that sticks to the wall and you can run cables through. It certainly looks better than a bunch of blue cables everywhere.

Do be careful though, some of these have glue on the back that's strong enough to pull your paint off the walls when you try to remove it... use a heat gun or some goo gone or something to soften that first.

https://www.amazon.com/D-Line-Raceway-1D3015W-Electrical-Paintable/dp/B077YD9DG6/

For going through doorways, if you have carpet, just pull it up a bit and cram cables under and around. If you don't have carpet, use a small drill to put a hole between the two rooms and a tiny bit of some kind of sealant to make it pretty. When you move out, pull the cable out and patch the hole.

u/_mutelight_ · 4 pointsr/hometheater

Looks great!

Since you asked for feedback (good man soliciting it BTW), I would get some cable raceways for the TV the hide those cables, perhaps toe in the fronts ever so slightly, if you have wiggle room on the bracket, drop the TV a few inches, then get some velcro zip ties for the cables to the right of the entertainment center to tidy that up.

EDIT Oh, one more thing, if you can, see if you can figure out a way to drop the DTV box and Xbox into the cabinet below and move the turntable over to the right side so you give your AVR room to breathe.

u/DinkaAnimalLover · 4 pointsr/Rabbits

Congratulations!

In case you need any tips as a new bunny parent take a look at the little guide on care I assembled below https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Z_IvDuy5Fr-VOKwBVBSmZih0m1ATCIquIMhYyFl4aIw . I really tried to include all the info a new bunny parent might want into this guide...

For wires

  1. Wire protectors that work well - these are quite chew proof and you just hide you cables inside - it makes things look nice and neat actually and you won't have another wire chewed.
  2. Also something like this is great if you can make it work in the space config you have... like along the baseboard or floor - I used these to hide my cords and make everything neat before a bun was ever in the picture even
  3. I have also seen people slit open a heavy duty garden hose and put the wires inside - works well

Watch a few videos below for some more great tips - they are short and have good ideas for you

  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbDQfIAVvY0
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1-GN3qErFc
  6. http://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Bunny-proofing

If you wanted to secure the whole area than buying a metal xpen and setting up as a barrier would be a good option.
u/dwarfman367 · 3 pointsr/cableadvice

This is complete overkill (the specific link) Look for items that are under amazon search term "Cable Raceways"
Some of them are simple channels with a foam-tape type thing to stick to the walls. Similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Legrand-C210-Wiremold-Cord-Mate/dp/B00004W3ZQ/ref=zg_bs_6577543011_6

u/ldd62 · 3 pointsr/hometheater

Looks great, but how about a little CordMate down along the trim for those subwoofer cables!

u/Lagomorphilic · 3 pointsr/Rabbits

I don't have too much experience with wire coverings, so hopefully someone more experienced will chime in, but as I see it, the type you mentioned are to essentially give you enough time to stop them eating it. It doesn't totally prevent them from eating through it, especially if they are determined. If you are planing on supervising, then wire covers would work perfectly, but if you are hoping to do free reign without supervision sometimes, then you may want to think of a different solution. Perhaps in addition to the wire covers, you could also move them up out of the way or block off areas with wires. I have my alarm clock wire strung through my bedroom door that lads to my bathroom so its a few feet off the ground, and my fish tank cords I just recently wrapped around the leg of my desk so it's high up off the ground (and looks interesting design wise). You could also just put a pen or cardboard fence over the area so the bunny can't get to it in the first place.

As for your actual question, I was googling it, and this website came up. It seems pretty accurate in terms of rabbit proofing. I found this link at the bottom of the page. perhaps that would work for you?

There is also this that I found, which seems much less abrasive then the other kind as it is smooth.

If you want something permanent that they actually can't chew through, I have seen pictures of people using pvc piping and running it around their house with the wires inside.

u/knollexx · 3 pointsr/buildapc

You could tape the cords to the floor/wall to make them less accessible, or you could buy some thick walled PVC pipe to put your wires in.

Or, you know, lock the dog in another area of the house with something else to chew on.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/technology

I always put a small zip-tie through the lock spot on my luggage and carry a handful more in my "personal bag" to re-close my bag after it's searched and at the other end.

It's about as secure as a typical luggage lock (can be taken off with a pair of pliers) and accomplishes all of the same objectives:

  • It discourages people from casually prying into my luggage.
  • It stops the zipper opening itself in transit.
  • It lets me know if someone has been in my luggage.

Save yourself some time and money and get yourself a hundred of these suckers for like $4.
u/iksworbeZ · 3 pointsr/vaporents

Sounds like the tubing on the whip may have been stretched a little too much or too often. You might want to try cutting maybe two inches off of it... alternatively you could try using the smallest size zip ties to 'clamp' the rubber to the glass... youll obviously want to be careful that you do not break the glass.

The last idea I would suggest you try is to take a rubber band and try to hold it down with the rubber band by looping it over and over and over the last little end bit where the tubing and the glass meet.

u/ajrisi · 3 pointsr/BurningMan

If you want a solution that is repeatable and nice looking, maybe do some of these w/ some zip ties? That way, you can just cut the zip ties when done, and leave the mounts on the boards for next year.

Edit: These are the same thing, but more cost effective and have the prime/free shipping option.

u/retardrabbit · 3 pointsr/howto

I think I like this idea too. They make self adhesive plastic tabs that are slotted to accept a zip tie running through them, I think that may be a good way to go. Like these little chingaderos

Hopefully someone else will have some good advice, but it sounds to me like he may have Pica. If it is Pica the best thing is to basically keep dangerous things away from him. I would also suggest dog toys, something like an xs or small Kong might be good (they are pretty high quality rubber). If he wants to chew cords you might try something like this. You might also get him some cat grass to give him something he chew up and eat without hurting himself.

Amazon used to carry these but I guess they're sold out now. I have them on all my pricy cables. Can't recommend them enough if you have animals.

u/Allarran · 3 pointsr/oculus

I recently installed the same thing. Instead of allowing the cable to slide freely through the hoops, you want to tie down the cables to the hoops with some appropriate amount of slack. That way when you bend down, the leashes will extend, instead of the cable sliding through.

Pick up some velcro cable ties (zip ties seem too permanent). Then you can adjust the slack to what you want and it won't change. I used something like this:https://www.amazon.com/VELCRO-Brand-ONE-WRAP-Management-Multi-color/dp/B00144CABS/ref=sr_1_5?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1522950872&sr=1-5&keywords=velcro+cable+ties

You will want some slack between the leashes also, so you don't end up extending all the leashes at the same time. As long as the slack is short enough that the dangling cables are still over your head, you should be fine. I can pretty much cover my entire space with just two of the leashes extended.

It's a bit of work, but not having to move your cable every time your turn around, will significantly improve your immersion.

u/Duzzit_Madder · 3 pointsr/Bushcraft

Interesting. Is there another use for them?

Meanwhile in IT land we use these. And they're removable so you can hang things up to dry while in camp.

u/HeloRising · 3 pointsr/HomeNetworking

I'm sure there are but they're going to be expensive.

You have two cheaper options.

First is cable floor conduits. I don't know how that would play with your wheelchair but I can attest that these can withstand quite a bit of pressure.

Second is to run the cable up along a wall with cable clips. You said you didn't have anyone that could help, I'd suggest asking a friend or making friends with someone. Even just offering someone a sixpack to help you out would be fair, it's a ten minute job and all you need is a hammer.

u/orcinovein · 3 pointsr/malelivingspace

Yes, most people would spend 20 bucks on the tools and parts, which is why I stated do it yourself for $20. Cable clips: 100 for $1. Hammer: $7. Coax cable: 25ft for $5. It also doesn't take a genius to pop the cable clip onto the cable and hammer the nail into the wall along the baseboard. Even if you need to "waste your time" watching a five minute Youtube video, scheduling a cable guy will take at least a week and a four hour window of sitting at home on the day of the appointment. It's far from rocket science. Edited for clarity.

u/mustfix · 3 pointsr/buildapc

If you have a ton of slack, I've used these clips to route up the door frame and across the ceiling.

A carpet laid out over cable is my 2nd option.

My 3rd option is to bust out the handyman tools and start running cable through the walls.

Velcro ties 100ct for $5.99 and free shipping if you have Prime.

These are just the first two products I searched for. You may find even better options.

Lowes.com also has 100ct ties for $5-10 range. If you want just one bag and your local Lowe's is on the way for your daily commute it still may be cheaper. One 100ct bag of the standard plastic ties will last you a long time even if you're constantly reorganizing, cutting and tossing them.

The standard cheapo plastic ones are even reusable if you push small (electronics size) flat blade in the back of the clasp, so a single 20ct bag could last you indefinitely.

Maybe an Ikea cabinet to go under the desk, you can take two legs off and prop the desk on two legs on one side and the cabinet on the other, that will help with moving things off your desk (electrical tape, Xbox game, controller)

u/Geedunk · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Leave a little space between your desk and the wall and either get a cable tray or check and see if your surge protector has slots on the bottom that you can use to hang it off screws.

Braided sleeving and velco strips will work wonders, or use a combination of the two depending on how much you have to deal with. It's on you to hide all of it behind your monitor stand for minimal appearance, but with a little work it'll look great!

FLOORING BASE: 2 layers

LAYER ONE: TARP
i do the same with a tarp on the floor, but i fold the tarp about a foot up the ex-pen walls to contain dust, fur, etc...inside the pen. you can cut and fold the tarp as necessary to make sure the floor is covered. i use either zip-ties or clips to secure the sides of the tarp.

  1. there are all sorts of sizes of tarps on amazon. i usually go big and cut to size. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ODH2WY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  2. re-usable zip ties are easy to tie/un-tie as you change configurations. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008OC2EE6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  3. bull dog clips fit perfectly between the ex-pen bars to clip items.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RMO85E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    LAYER TWO: CARPET TILES

i have two pairs of bonded bunnies and one pair will aggressively chew, dig and claw their way through almost EVERYTHING i give them, but i've had pretty good success with FLOR tiles. the backing is a tough rubber with a soft low pile carpet on top that they can't dig through. they will nip at the corners but stop once they find it's too tough to chew.

if you shop at the FLOR online outlet, you can get 20in x 20in tiles for $3 each ($1/tile plus $2/shipping each tile).

    https://www.flor.com/carpet-tiles/outlet/random-pattern-tile

i didn't really care what colors or patterns they sent so i took a chance and the selection they sent were actually not too bad (browns and blues).

  4. i lay each tile down next to each other and over the tarp to create a continuous layer of carpet.
  5. each tile can be cut to size with a box cutter knife if needed.
  6. individual tiles can be cleaned or thrown away if needed.

    hope that helps:)

u/condor57 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Oh crap didn't realize it went all the way back. Ignore my suggestion about the monitor stand (unless you want to drill a hole in your desk..)

Actuallyyy that would be one way to get the cables out of site. drill a hole behind your monitor.. But if you didn't want to do that you could try a cable sleeve like this maybe? Just run it along the bottom edge? https://www.amazon.com/Alex-Tech-10ft-Protector-Sleeving/dp/B07FW3GTXB/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=cable+sleeve&qid=1550156179&s=gateway&sr=8-6

Also the fact of the desk means my RGB idea wouldn't work either. But you could put them on the back of your monitor and that could be cool. I literally just bought these and am very happy with the qualilty. They worked better than the first ones I got from Wall mart...https://www.amazon.com/PANGTON-VILLA-Led-Strip-Lights/dp/B072QWJRBS/ref=lp_18423905011_1_1?srs=18423905011&ie=UTF8&qid=1550156289&sr=8-1

Cord concealer is another option, I use this to hide the cables for surrounds and anywhere else. You can run it just above the floorboards. Try pulling a bit from the corner of the carpet. It may make a ripping sound but it's not tearing just pulling off the little tacks. It may be different though if it's glued down.

https://www.amazon.com/One-Cord-Channel-Cable-Concealer-Management/dp/B07D8WVJWF/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=cord+concealer&qid=1562343028&s=electronics&sr=1-3

u/zilla0100 · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

The easy solution would just be a box and a sticky back wire trough. It isnt as pretty as some more intrusive fixes but it would be easy and cheap and look around 300% more professional.

Put all the splices in a box with a blank face and have the wires come out straight into the wire trough that sticks to the wall until they dive back into the drywall. The troughs even come with 90's to do the turn.

Something like this,

https://www.amazon.com/Stageek-Management-Concealer-Organizer-Computers/dp/B07FFN2HN6

you can get them in different colors. I use white to conceal my VR setup base station power cables.

Or you could start cutting open the drywall to put the cables in and patch it up. You'll still probably need a box to access those connections though, I'm not sure what code is for that stuff.

u/The_EA_Nazi · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

Ahhhhh OP. My eyes.

Ok, so here's my advice as I just went through something similar recently. I had to run a Cat6a cable into my room as I wasn't getting the speeds I wanted over wifi because the walls in my apartment are plaster so it cuts the speed like 50%.

There are some great tools out there that I think could help you manage the cabling in the room, but there are also some simpler tricks as well.

You have a ton of empty space on the bottom of your tv stand. There's a few options you could go here. You could get some nice wooden or storage inserts like [these] (https://www.amazon.com/MobileVision-Storage-Durable-Handles-Stackable/dp/B076CWK7R5/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=wooden+storage+box&qid=1565625552&s=gateway&sr=8-15) but bigger. I cant remember exactly where I got mine from but I believe it was Bed Bath and Beyond, they're more square and slightly bigger. There's a ton of options for those, that way you fill that empty space with usable storage, which will also help you hide the wires behind the tv stand.

The other recommendation I have to go with that is a power strip on the floor behind those storage boxes, that way everything can plug into the strip, and only one plug will need to run to the wall outlet rather then multiple.

If you didn't want to go that way, there are these super useful adhesive cable organizers that I used for my Cat cables. Now I'd recommend measuring beforehand, the length you need, and also how thick your cables are so you can figure out how big of an organizer you'll need.

But these are the ones I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004W3ZQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These should be ok, but again make sure you double check if you need a thicker one. The great thing about these is that they can be painted to match your wall, personally I just stuck them on the molding near the floor so it looks like it's a part of it.

It definitely doesn't look that unorganized, and personally, I think your easiest fix would be putting some organizers under the tv stand so it blocks the view of all those cables. Because you don't have a ton of cables to begin with either, just an amp, tv, and playstation and a cable running from the left side as well.

u/Falk3r · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace
u/sw33t_t00th · 2 pointsr/hometheater

If you don't have any other options but to run those cables across the door like that. I have used this in the past with good results.

u/L7ryAGheFF · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

>In between the couch and television is a walkway leading to the bedroom

That sounds like the worst idea ever.

In your situation, I would probably just run a cord along the floor and conceal/protect it with something like this.

u/nickolasstone · 2 pointsr/audiophile

OOOh. Icky. Ya don't do that. Although you might be able to get just a little cable concealer. That would still look better than hanging it.

u/MoGains · 2 pointsr/hometheater

If you can't run them in the wall, zip tie them together and cover them with something that looks like this.

Belkin 6ft. Cord Concealer (Grey) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006HVLW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_ASA9wb7S69B5M

Best option is run them in the wall. All you need is a drywall saw, a couple low voltage plates, and maybe a glow rod if its an exterior wall.

u/ZenithPrime · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Looks ok but gluing wires to anything would give me anxiety. Not to mention if one falls off the glue, you have to get the whole glue gun set up back out, plug it in, wait for to heat up, and glue it back. I'd recommend something like this.

u/chadspdx · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

This stuff works awesome. Comes in a variety of sizes and a few colors. You can hide all the cables and still pull slack out when you need to easily. Just screw it up to the bottom side of the shelve.

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-AD2X2-2x2-Inch-Wiring-Raceway/dp/B00008VFAP

u/salaryprotection · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You can go a number of ways with the Twist/Cable ties. Twist ties seem to imply those bendable wire ties, which I'm not too fond of since they can become undone.

There are these trusty zip ties, which are strong and handy if your case comes with holes to thread the ties through. You can also cut the excess tie for a more appealing appearance (not so with twist ties).

I also like velcro ties for bigger cables and also for cable management outside your tower (mice and keyboard cords, power cables, speaker cables, etc). They're reusable, and it's easy to add cables to a bundle without having to undo the entire existing bundle.

If you're getting an SSD, you also might want to get a 2.5" SSD tray if your case doesn't come with one.

As for tools, precision screwdrivers are handy for small screws and for reaching deep into the case. An alternative to magnetic tip screwdrivers are long nosed pliers.

u/drumer93 · 2 pointsr/macsetups

Can you post an album of your setup and maybe under/around your desk? I put a lot of stuff under the desk that I dont nessicarly need to see all the time (USB hub, External hard drive)

Some general things that will help are Velcro Ties or for more permanant situations cable ties.
Also depending on the size or weight of your USB hub some mounting tape may help to keep it in place on your desk.

You can use this document as a guideline on how to do the cabling.

https://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/codeq/doctree/NSTD87394A.pdf

I would try to run all cables that I could on the scope itself. I would also pay attention to adding extra length of wires across parts that move, twist, rotate.
I would definitely try to route the cables in a bundle together as much as possible.

u/Aerik · 2 pointsr/bicycling

If you know of a store with some kind of clearance junk isle (wal mart, target, k mart, etc), dig around in it. You may be surprised what you find. I found these for $2. Blinking they should get around 150 hours battery time, if I recall. I put the red one on the back of my helmet and put the white one away for when I find another place to put it. Then I bought two more lights in a pack, a head and a tail, for $12. None too powerful, but tail lights don't need to be, and in my neighborhood I'm never too far away from a street light unless I really try.

If you have the right kind of helmet, you may find a literal headlight pretty easy to macguyver out of an otherwise cheap light not made for mounting. I've done this. In september (?) I got this pack of 3 headlamps for only $8+tax at a store. They're more than bright enough, and the adjustability is fabulous. Using just two zip ties I managed to fasten one securely to my giro venti. I love using it, all the reflective stuff for 40 yards in front of my lights up clear as day. Stop signs, license plates, reflectors, lane paint, glass and sand on the ground. If I set it to blink it actually looks like the stop signs and license plates are self-lit and blinking. And at such a cheap price I'm not too worried if something happens and I break/lose it.

So there you have it. $22+tax and I got seven lights, 4 in service at any time.

pro-tip: since it's april, april shower time, you should think about water-proofing your lights using pieces of spare inner tube. It holds nice and tight on all my lights' seams, and is easily dealt with when time to change batteries.

  • Cable management cord tube, use scissors to cut it into multiple parts.

  • Get a new surge protector, something like this. It will sit flat and you now can plug everything into it.

  • Want to get super cable management happy? Buy a bucket of cable tie mounts. After you have consoles and other devices in place figure out the best way to run the cables along the back between them then stick some cable tie mounts down and use a releasable cable tie, don't use standard cable ties unless you are going to leave some slack for cutting easier later without risking damage to your cords

  • You're already using one CD portfolio holder, why not get another large one and dedicate it entirely to games. If you do that and put the empty cases away in a box you could then put other things on the upper shelf like controllers

In regards to your cable question on Imgur,

Ikea Signum if you can fit it. Put the power strip and all of the cables in it and the only wire that will be visible under the desk is the power strip to the outlet.

For the monitor cables, you can get some adhesive zip tie downs and stick them on the back of the monitors to run the cables to the center monitor and then run those down the back of the mounting arm.

I'm using these....

HMDI

USB

Then for the sake of asthetics, I wrapped them both in this to keep the wires together when routing.

10 foot for each, which has worked for me, but 15 might give a bit more flexibility depending on the location of your PC. But part of the benefit of the hanging cables is that as long as your cable can reach diagonally to the opposite corner of your space, (front to back, left to right, and top to bottom. Diagonally in 3 dimensions), then it should be able to reach anywhere in your space. The stock Rift cable can reach diagonally across my space, and my extension cables are just getting my cable to its "start" position in the corner.

Keep in mind these cables don't have a ton of strength, so I recommend getting a hefty command strip hook to statically fix your wire near the ceiling to take a lot of the weight, then the hook cables can split the weight from there as it droops towards your head naturally.

This turned into a bit of a novel but I hope my "lessons learned" are helpful haha

No problem.

The wire on the g403 seems to be a braided cable so it’s not good news. However there have been instances of batches of G502 mice have bad cables, so it may just be your model, but there’s no way to be sure.

However like I said before there are many Logitech mice with the exact same shape. So you can go wireless if you’d like with the g603/g703. From what your issue I’d say you could remedy the cable drag with a mouse bungee or some cable clips.

There's a ton of companies who sell mouse bungees and usually they're pretty good. Though I'd recommend you check out reviews first since some are too lightweight or gimmicky. I personally use the Zowie camade if you got questions.

Alternatives :
I've seen people use clips like this in place of a mouse bungee: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Clips-Management-Nightstand-Accessories/dp/B00NVKHLP8

Or you can just get a generic brandless bungee which people have said are fine : https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Mouse-Bungee-Management-Holder/dp/B01ASXL0PW

If you don't want a mouse bungee to be to big or noticeable you could also use something like this : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G1WD13M

put monitors on one side, tower on the other. Or put the monitors on one side, tower in the middle, and controllers/headset/mic/etc. on the other side. I'm using these to hold power strips, it's only going to work for the long skinny ones though. IKEA has one that can hold a wider variety of sizes. Based on the shadow and graininess of the pic I am guessing you only have a ceiling light? You could add a lamp on one side and one of these on the other. If you want to continue with the green color scheme, you could get one of these orb things and an rgb led strip

Okay, so, here is everything I used:

Light bar 28" flood/spot

Mount to 1" roof basket bar

Wire Clips

Wire harness, this comes with the bar if you choose the package. I ran the switch through the firewall wire grommet by cutting a hole in the grommet (BE CAREFUL NOT TO CUT ANY WIRES). The wire that plugs into the car was run under the hood and up the window, secured by the clips. I followed this guys guide, u/DauphDaddy He didn't use the same harness but its the same idea. Hope this helps!!

u/kyhule · 2 pointsr/DeskCableManagement

For your TV or a lot of your cables in general, get some cheap cable wrap like the kind linked below. You'd be surprised how much cleaner a single bundled wire looks. Here's my
Desk. Didn't want to cut a another hole to run the wires and the cords weren't long enough to go through the exciting one for the tv. This was only going to be temporary by it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

u/Sigurd_Vorson · 2 pointsr/AnetA8

Spiral cable wrap. You can find it all over the place. Home Depot, MicroCenter, and Amazon for example. Out of curiosity I looked it up on Amazon and it's not too expensive. I opted for 1/4in(6mm) personally. You can measure your bundle to see what all you need. I'd offer, but I have a lot of aftermarket stuff so my diameter will be off from stock.

u/Tron08 · 2 pointsr/MPSelectMiniOwners

If you want to pretty up the wiring a little bit you can use this wire-wrap:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYF1GDV/

It has the benefit of being able to spiral around your wires in-place instead of needing to slip over a severed wire. If it's not the exact same stuff that's on the extruder wires it's pretty dang close.

u/crazyherb · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I like stuff like this, but you could go with anything really.

u/Dysthymike · 2 pointsr/WindowsMR

I got all that from a comment that I can't find from a thread months back. The commenter also suggested Wire Wrap which I also use and has worked well. It did take forever to get it on, though, and there was a lot leftover.

Also, other people here have mentioned having to turn off the Vive Link to get it working, I just unplug the Power Supply Adapter from the Vive Link every time I'm done with it and that seems to work. I also disconnect the HDMI/USB/Power Supply Adapter from the computer, the Odyssey+ and the power supply as well when I'm done, instead of leaving anything plugged in.

That's not something you would typically see, a better solution is to run a cable channel to hold the wires and keep then concealed. If you decide to go with the tape method, use something like masking tape or even painters tape, otherwise you risk peeling the paint off the wall.

u/aestes89 · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

No problem, yeah it definitely helps to see it before you buy it. I never adjust the legs to standing. Not saying you can't, but it would be a huge hassle, as you'd have to adjust each leg individually. However, I'm a tall guy, so I like that I can make this desk a LOT taller than any desk at OfficeDepot.

For cable management, I bought:

http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-AD2X2-2x2-Inch-Wiring-Raceway/dp/B00008VFAP/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1456856627&sr=8-11&keywords=cable+channel

and attached it to the bottom with some short wood screws. It does the job ok, but there are probably cheaper options, not to mention I didn't measure and had to cut it to size with a hacksaw as it was WAY longer than I thought it'd be. Does an OK job of hiding cables though, and pretty sturdy. I believe ikea sells something similar for pretty cheap though. Maybe look while you're there:

That way I can have all the cables exit the channel at the places they need to plug in, I really like the setup a lot.

u/slaymance · 1 pointr/DeskCableManagement

I use the StarTech cable raceway and it has done absolute wonders for my cable management. I have a sit/stand desk with no back, so having cables hanging down from my desk was not an option. So I got this raceway and attached it to the underside of my desk using some Scotch mounting tape. Some of my notes:

  • Made of soft plastic, so I was able to cut it with wire cutters to fit the length of my desk
  • Slots along the entire length, so cables can come in from all directions
  • Lots of space and I still have plenty of room after having all my cables stuffed in there. If your desk is decently long, it shouldn't have trouble storing a modern laptop power brick
  • Low profile and sits unseen behind my desk's crossbar support

I wanted to use some small zip ties (kinda like these) and thread them through the vents on the back of the TV to "hook" the lightstrip. Turns out my vents are too small/close together.

I just ended up using masking tape. Looks terrible but it's in the back so I never see it.

I like the flexibility of the zip tie mounts. You can get very creative

u/ehferking · 1 pointr/gaming

You have the following options.

A. Conceal

You have open backed shelving. Add a backing (posterboard, painted MDF / fiberboard, fabric, etc... attached to the back of the shelf) and cut / drill pass through holes near the location of each shelf to pass the cables through.

B. Cable Management

Use the following very inexpensive products (which are also available at Home Depot / Lowes) to route / organize the cables along the back of the shelves and vertical portions. You should choose the color based on the color of the cables and what is being mounted to. In this case, I would use black.

u/tajwk · 1 pointr/AskBattlestations

I use this inside my case. It comes with mounting hardware making it really easy to route however you want. It also has 3 brightness levels and an on/off switch.

For backlighting behind my monitors/desk, I use something like this. I typically only use a single color, but I opted for a version with color changing LEDs. The adhesive on these things sucks, so if you purchase one, I suggest getting some of these and some zipties to mount it.

u/slowgold · 1 pointr/AverageBattlestations

I've never used any myself, though - I adopted a 7-month-old kitten last December and I used a form of fear-aversion training to teach her to stay off my computer desk and away from my shit-tangle of wires. I also used this method to train her to stay out of the kitchen and off the kitchen table, but it involves catching the cat "in the act" of doing the unwanted behavior, so you'd have to see if your new little buddy would chew on the wires in the first place before using the method.

Get the stainless steel, no doubt about it, and also definitely do forward sealing. You may want to consider flow control, but that is a bit more of a personal preference. I really like my intertaps, and really like the ball lock adapter, makes bottling from a keg really easy using a DIY picnic tap poor mans beer gun. This also works for growlers, just need a larger bung.

Some things I appreciate in my build:

  • All the lines are color coded at both ends using velcro cable ties
  • Dual pressure regulator, means I can have serving pressure go to a manifold, and a separate pressure that I can set high for quick carbing, or lower for bottling from a keg. You can also consider secondary regulators, which look like a manifold but have a regulator for each line

I haven't found too many things I wish I did differently, but I'm still learning all the right procedures. I would recommend buying a both liquid and gas line in bulk, it's nice to be able to replace and not worry about if you have it.

u/lolpubs · 1 pointr/HomeNetworking

It's really easy and cheap to run an ethernet cable around your house, too, even if you're not into drilling walls. I had to run a coax and an ethernet cable down the hall in my apartment and I just attached them to the ceiling with these cable clips. If the ethernet cable wasn't black on a white wall I bet you'd never notice them up there. Even still the white coax cable hides most of the black.

A high-quality CAT5e or CAT6 cable and some wall clips is like $40 tops. I got this $18 75 foot flat ethernet cable from monoprice through ebay, a 100 foot coax cable for like $11 on ebay, paid $4 for those clips on Amazon, and that was it. Both major kinds of cabling reaching both sides of the house, barely visible, for $33.

Quick and dirty way would be to take excess cabling and just tape it to the back of that wood. The better way to do it though is to buy those adhesive tie down points to route your cables.

Something like this.

What about routing the other cables along the power strip to the outlet and using a sleeve to cover all the cables? It's tough to get rid of all cables but you can get a ton of cables through those.
Word of advice when using them though... when you get them to size they will fray, to prevent that use a lighter to melt the edges, melt about a quarter of an inch off.

u/JesusSquid · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

Can't see why not. I've used heat shrink on all sorts of electrical wires. Might make them noticeably stiffer and harder to maneuver though depending on the quality/thickness of the heat shrink.

Could try this too

Yeah works great, though the cable is REALLY thick. My only complaint is the power extension cable says it is 10', but it is actually about 2 inches shorter than the HDMI and USB cable which makes it slightly a pain to plug in. Other than that, no issues. Here is everything I ordered:

Get the zip ties you can reuse, therefore they wouldn't be classified as restraints.

Edit: I mean how can they be classified as restraints if you can undo them, right?

u/Ral_Thor · 1 pointr/battlestations

Personally, I chose these over Velcro

AIRSUNNY 50pcs 150mm Releasable/Reusable Plastic Zip Cable Wire Tie for Organization/Management https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008OC2EE6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_IIwVBbNZ997ZF

I felt like Velcro loses its stick after awhile so these can be used and undone without really worrying about wear. I don’t care too much if the longer part of the tie is sticking out, but if you do, you can cut just a little bit after the connection and still have a reusable zip tie that isn’t too noticeable. I’m no expert, but the ties have been a lifesaver for cable management for me when the Velcro ones failed.

u/DoomRyGuy · 1 pointr/desksetup

Ah see what you mean.

At first I was going to recommend a usb hub or port replicator but I dont think that would really solve anything. I think your best bet for managing your cables would be to use cable organizers. It should neaten up your desk a bit.

Perhaps use one of these up top and on the sides of your desk.

Then on the bottom for any excess you can try these cablox things. They are a bit pricey so, if you want to go the budget route, you can always use the adhesive squares along with zip ties to mount the cables under your desk.

Hope that helps a bit. Good luck.

u/killersquirel11 · 1 pointr/DeskCableManagement

I've got these mounted to my desk. Not fully enclosed, but ended up being clean enough for me.

u/RuinousRubric · 1 pointr/Monitors

Tape or screw the power strip to the bottom of the desk and add cable trays (I have these) to the bottom of the desk so you have somewhere to tuck any extra length. Use cable clips of some sort (like these or these or these) to keep cable runs tidy and in place. If you have cables that you need to bundle together or keep folded, use reusable cable ties like this and avoid using zip ties since they're single-use and can damage cables if they're over-tightened.

If you have cables that you might want to remove from time to time, like for peripherals, then you should avoid bundling them with everything else. Might seem obvious, but I thought I'd throw it out there since I've made that mistake before with my keyboard and mouse.

Hope this helps.

If you're able to attach something like this | https://www.amazon.com/WireTamer-Cable-Management-Tray-Black/dp/B01BVYW7UY/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1485910978&sr=1-8&keywords=cable+raceway | to your desk then you would be able hide all the cables on the underside of the desk and you would also be able to place your power strip in it depending on the size. If I was you then I would orient the desktop so that the cables coming from the back are facing the wall but I completely understand if you want to display the inside of your system , so if you're going to keep it in that orientation then I would also get some cable sleeving of some sort such as | https://www.amazon.com/Bluelounge-SB-BL-Cable-Director-Black/dp/B00MXC4T7S/ref=pd_sim_229_55?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=WPPWJ0E7AQ1CCYKYZ2JF |

electric tape is cheap, you can get a lot of it, and any sticky residue is minimal. I also think it is made in a way to be bitter so rodents don't chew on wires. should work for cats too. otherwise, you can get some of this from amazon. or some combination of the two. I would personally avoid using zip ties as it can be hard to get them tight without potentially damaging wires.

>I think Build 3 would meet my needs

Seems like a good build other than the PSU of dubious quality and the case that doesn't have good quality, airflow or conveniences to build in.

>Will this build come with everything I need to assemble (minus screwdriver)?

Yes.

>I also need wifi with my computer. Is that easy to pick out?

That can either come integrated in the motherboard or be bought separately in a PCIE card or USB dongle.

>Is the main issue that they likely use crappy power supply and motherboard that might fail after a few years?

Yes, and also that their quality and performance can be beaten or matched with the same price or lower if building.

>I assume I have access to a Microcenter but I'm not really sure what they are.

The locations are listed over here. If you're near one, that'd be nice because they have some good deals on hardware.

>My cat likes to chew through small cords so anything wireless is better.

Unrelated, but something like this might help

>I have no plans to upgrade piece by piece in the future.

Are you sure? That's a big selling point of building, might save you quite a bit in the future

>I'm assuming I would need to be able to get it on a flash drive though to be able to install on the new computer?

Yes. A DVD will work too since you want an optical drive.

>I'm assuming it's easy to find a decent guide to follow for assembly and that I don't need a static electricity bracelet.

Yes, there are many videos on youtube on how to do it and they're pretty much the same, because there's not much to it. You don't need the bracelet, but just as caution, during the process, don't pet your cat or build on a carpet, that could build up static electricity.

Here's a build that matches the performance of the first $879 prebuilt and also includes a decent IPS monitor:

Here's the kind of performance you can expect in many games.

But that was going with as cheap as possible as per your preference, we can increase performance and generally add a lot until up to $1000:

- Swap the RX 580 for a GTX 1660. Now the performance nearly matches the $999 prebuilt.

- Change the SSD to a much faster 512GB NVMe SSD. (Perfromance gains are not noticeable over a regular SATA SSD like the one in this build and in these prebuilts, just a neat technology that's not much more expensive, maybe an extra $15 or so). You mentioned large HDD and SSD, but said you wouldn't go past 500GB, but well, in any case a 2TB HDD of the same model (Seagate Barracuda) can be bought for not much more.

- Pick a bigger monitor

Let me know if you have any additional questions and will decide to go with building.

You didn’t state a budget so I’m just gonna suggest these for more room/ cleaner work area: Bigger desk (at least 55” in width), monitor mounts, cable raceways/cable box for all of your cable management needs.

For a desk I would suggest looking into something like an IKEA Bekant, the one I linked is the bigger one, 63” x 31”and that should give you more room to work with for textbooks on the desk.

For monitors mounting is best (imo) so you can have that much more room to push stuff alll the way back to take advantage of the depth. This monitor arm Is good.

For cable management I would suggest this raceway. It comes with 9 15” long pieces that you can mount under your desk. I would use some command strips to hold them in place. Use the raceway to feed all your cables through to a cable management box, Something similar to this one, so you can stuff in the excess cables and make it look nicer. Just have the box behind your pc or along on of the desk legs.
NOTE: the IKEA Bekant does come included with a cable management pouch/net under the desk but imo with 2 monitors, a switch, and keyboard it would be too much worse for that little thing.

Ps: you don’t have to use the stuff I listed, there’s always alternatives if you have a question just ask, I’ll see if I can help.

u/mike2048 · 1 pointr/mildlyinteresting

Not bad, stand does not look too heavy to move away from the wall in case you need to make changes. Pro-tips (used to wire AV racks):

  • Whenever possible use velcro instead of zipties
  • Label your cables on each end with a number / letter
  • Use a raceway to manage a large number of cables

I Like the stand design, works nicely for multiple systems. You can add a metal angle right behind the top trim piece to take out the sag.

Mesh networks are good, but yeah nothing beats getting a house properly wired.

I live in an old farmhouse, so I definitely get wiring complications. If you can't run it under a carpet/rug/baseboard/etc then the best solution I've found is to use cable channels like this: https://www.amazon.com/One-Cord-Channel-Cable-Concealer-Management/dp/B07D8WVJWF and just stick them to the wall/ceiling...

That said, I currently have a projector that has all the wiring held to the wall/ceiling via 3M hooks, so I'm not exactly the most stylistic when it comes to design.

u/freespace303 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Usually what I do is run the ones behind the monitor down the back of the monitor desk mount, then back behind/under the desk using either cable channels or mountable zip ties, and then buy extensions for any of the cables on amazon if I need them

Eh, it's not that hard when you have such few pieces of equipment that OP has. 2 speakers, 1 monitor, and a desktop. Those are the only wires he has to hide.

Mouse and keyboard are wireless, he doesn't have an xlr mic or desk mic, doesn't have a second or third monitor, doesn't have surround sound, doesn't have a UPS, doesn't have an electric desk, etc.. This is all when it starts getting difficult to properly hide the wires.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to hide a few wires if you get a couple of these. https://www.amazon.com/One-Cord-Channel-Cable-Concealer-Management/dp/B07D8WVJWF/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1GEFPJTBL558K&keywords=wire+channel+for+wall&qid=1557500835&s=gateway&sprefix=wire+channel%2Csporting%2C162&sr=8-3

Would you be able to run Ethernet to the wall and run a drop there?

Here’s my proposition:

You get an HD pro, or one of the other APs that have an output, ceiling mount that then run Ethernet across the drop ceiling to the wall. You can go behind the wall ideally, but if not, just run Ethernet down the wall in a raceway like this: https://www.amazon.com/One-Cord-Channel-Cable-Concealer-Management/dp/B07D8WVJWF/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=cable+raceway&qid=1557349650&s=gateway&sprefix=cable+ra&sr=8-4

Then put a switch. This is how I’d do it.
