Well, if you REALLY only care about cost above all else, get some of these and then go down to your local sports sore (preferably locally owned, not big-box) and get some more weights based on how much you need. However, these guys go from 5-45 lbs and come with a stand for $250. I really love my PowerBlocks, but they were like $400 with a stand.
Don't get fancy adjustable dumbbells, get regular ones like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GC76NW/
You can get heavier plates to add to them. Plus easier to find used. I've got a pair of these, and regular 1" barbell weights work fine on them, you can make 200lb barbells if you wanted. You should be able to find them used on Craigslist if you live in a city.
I don't think there is really any substitute for pullups (and its related motions, like cable pulldowns). However, you can still target your latissimus dorsi, albeit from different angles; you can use bent over rows, along with pullovers (which may be easier on a Swiss Ball instead of lying perpendicular on a bench), or inverted rows. They don't match the vertical range of motion of pullups, or recruit as many helper muscles, but they will do as substitutes if you have no other equipment.
Personally, I'd be wary about using household items as makeshift pullup bars, unless you're good enough at engineering or physics to properly analyze them.
In my opinion, the best way to do pullups at home, especially when you have limited funds and space, is to get a door frame pullup bar in the style of the Iron Gym / Iron Gym Xtreme / P90X / EasyEffort. These are not like the old style bars which expand to brace against the inside of a door frame; these are the type which rest on the frame lintel, hang through the doorway, and brace against the frame on the other side. It's easier to understand by seeing how it fits. They support about 136 kilograms / 300 pounds, are easily removable, and require no alteration of your doorway.
thank you!! i’m so much happier. I never realized how hard it was on me (both physically AND mentally) to be overweight.
I bought this bike here.
my quick and honest review - it was easy to assemble, the seat is super comfy, and it’s quiet. i’m a little too short for it, so I had to put some pedal extenders on (I was doing a number on my knees by hyperextending them every rotation). also, the console died after like a week. they sent me a replacement one for free within a couple days but I never installed it as I track the workouts on my apple watch. oh, also, it’s light, folds up tiny, and is really easy to move around (and hide!)
Ask your gym to invest in a deadlift wedge.
$10 to make deadlift loading and unloading way, way easier.
If you were jogging it was probably bouncing around on your dogs back and that is uncomfortable even if the dog doesn't complain because it is not a human being.
It will just endure most things you put it through as you are the master, that's why dogs who fight in rings still love their masters after the fight.Sorry, unnecessary addition, I apologize.I would recommend getting an SPIBelt or Small personal item belt made for running.
Here you go!: http://www.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Small-Personal-Great-Runners/dp/B004QQTDA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371607219&sr=8-1&keywords=spibelt

Here you go. Honestly its great bike
maybe a dead wedge would be a good candidate.

The most Life Changing thing on my wish list would be this [Exercise Bike] (http://www.amazon.com/Exerpeutic-Folding-Magnetic-Upright-Pulse/dp/B007595TKU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1HSZ4B20C9LPB&coliid=IWFLQ8DHP0SC4). I would love to lose over 100 pounds (takes a lot for me to even admit this), and having this bike would really help me with exercising in my room late at night.
This one
Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008DNAJYI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_FZJLwbP2QVXM7
It's for pokemon. Called Pokemon Gotcha.
https://www.amazon.com/DATEL-Pokemon-Gotcha-Iphone-Android/dp/B06Y5BTX8L
I have these from Amazon and they work great! I always use the X-Heavy with crab walks, donkey kicks and clams I can definitely feel it! They also come with the little pouch to keep them all together. Only complant, my husband asked why my hands smelt like weed when i got back from the gym...
So they do have a smell first time out of the package.

That's sounds a lot like having depression too which is a huge beast in and of itself. Deal with that myself too and it's a struggle to just be motivated to really even get out of bed. So I feel for the family friend.
I use Exercise Bands to help me drop weight. It can be done while sitting down comfortably and there are loads of exercise videos on YouTube (and DVDs) that show seated position workouts for folks like him and me.
Might also be wise to try finding other things that also interest him instead of feeling the need to eat to fill in the gaps. I know it's super tempting to just chow down on something, because it's easy and it's something to do that can be done easily for enjoyment.
I hate my local gym(s). So. Damn. Much. I know it's just me. I'm impatient, intolerant, and generally just can't stand the douchers everywhere. So, I finally finished up my garage gym. It's not pretty, but it works. I just need a few more plates, and a really good deal on a row machine (and to clean up the other half of the garage).

Edit: Links + words.
you're gonna be hard pressed to find a full cage under that price point.
i used valor fitnessbd-9 power squat stands up until my squat started breaking 300 lbs for reps. after that point, not having full safety bars was getting dicey.
if you're willing to go up to $250, i've been using the fitness reality 810XLT for well over a year, and it's held up beautifully.
1) There's no way carrying a phone is a significant concern from a chronic injury perspective; tell them you're giving up running and taking up skateboarding, I was diagnosed with advanced arthritis in both wrists at 25 from skating, running is infinitely safer. But there's no use fighting it, parents have the upper hand on such matters, so you might as well start working on solutions.
2) Why do you carry your phone? Music, GPS, safety? For the first two (this is probably bad advice from a parent perspective) I'd probably refuse the fanny pack and try to leverage in a decent running watch instead of holding your phone. If it's a safety issue, I get that.
3) I started keeping my phone on long trail runs, as much as I hate taking anything with me. I use SPIbelt, it's surprisingly comfortable, and it's only as big as your phone. Honestly, it's a helluva lot more comfortable than carrying in your hand. The weight distribution is on your lower back, you can't really tell it's there. It also sits under your shirt, so you can't see it either. I've also heard positive reviews of FlipBelt.
4) I have an arm band that I found somewhere and keep it in my pack for when my iPod or GPS watch is dead and I use my phone instead. It works. I know a lot of people like them, but I'd still take the SPI-belt. But I'm 40, married with children, so I really don't give a damn about the fanny pack stigma anymore; I can see how you might feel different.
https://www.amazon.com/Spibelt-Original-Expandable-Pocket-Zipper/dp/B004QQTDA2/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1527739899&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=spibelt&psc=1&smid=A2SQRM7P89NWO
basically these I use a pretty heavy resistance for thrusts and squats and a much lighter one for clams, hip raises, and side lying abductions.
Getting set up for barbell thrusts with a band around your knees is a little bit of a circus but its worth it haha
I don't have issues with my knees collapsing but if science says it will give me a sweet ass I guess I'll do it. Any suggestion on a which bands to get for a 6'2 guy with a very wide stance? They all seem to be 12' at varying thicknesses and these seem to be most popular on amazon.
If you want DBs, I'd personally just get some DB handles and decent clamps rather than the bow-flex ones.
Something like https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Solid-20-Inch-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4/ will let you scale on weight for a long time compared to the bowflex ones, and at a much lower cost.
Those and a stack of microplates if you don't already have them and you can do all you can with the bowflex, plus you can also do real db rows, db press etc, something the bowflexes won't let you.
If you want adjustable ones, powerblocks or ironmasters scale better than the bowflexes as you can upgrade them to 120lb. They cost a fair bit though.
Personally, I think the bowflex fill a bad area in the middle of heavy adjustables and just using normal weights on db handles.
I have this exercise bike. Running is my prefered workout, but I live in southeast, and when it's 89 degrees and 99% humidity at 9:30 PM, I just can't face it. So...this is my no-excuses tool. I put it in front of my tv and get going and it does exactly what I need it to do, which is get my heart rate up and get me sweaty enough to feel like I did something. It's nearly silent and light enough I can carry it around easily (maybe 35lbs?). It's not free, but it's about 6 months of a gym membership near me and I've had mine about 5 years.
I got mine from Amazon.
I've been very satisfied with it.
I've had good luck with the Iron Gym one. Hasn't messed up my door and it works well.

Get a Spi-Belt. I use it just for my key, but it can hold a phone, some Gu, a powerbar and more all at the same time. It's the only thing that goes on every run with me. For water, my runs all go by public water fountains or I carry a Nathan water belt during the winter when the fountains are turned off. Only need that for more than half marathon distance though.
"Fat Gripz"
Does anyone have any other experiences with these?
Do yourself a favor and pick up some Fat Gripz. Slap them on a easy bar and heavy reverse curls superset with forward forearm curls. You will see a difference in thickness and definition in a few weeks.
Gripping something larger requires more grip strength (see Fat Gripz). That's why you feel more burn in your forearms.
I bet if you went to a more regular 1" pull up bar you'd be shocked at how easy it was to bust out reps compared to what you've been doing.
As to the question of unneeded strain on any muscles/joints, aside from the extra stimulation/strength you're building in your forearm/grip I believe the larger grip surfaces are actually supposed to put less strain on your elbows and shoulders. I can't cite a source on that though, could be broscience.
Buy a dead wedge. You can find it on Amazon. It helps tremendously for set up and breakdown. One of my best purchases.

The technique you described has always worked great. There are now also cheap, gymbag-portable devices like the Dead Wedge that are super easy as well.

NOTE: Not affiliated in any way with this product. I just own one and use it in my home gym.
If you're moving a lot of plates around there's also this https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Wedge-Alternative-Powerlifting-Weightlifting/dp/B00TVVBD6O
I'm waiting to buy it as a nerdy gift to myself for when I can deadlift two plates...
I'm glad you found a good way to move them though! I've actually tweaked my back before yanking on plates like that so I'm really paranoid about how I load and unload for deadlifts. After a beautiful set I just pulled on a plate the wrong way, tired, and whew that was bad.
I go Osprey hydration backpack for things I don't care about getting stolen (sunblock, smuggled snacks, thin hoodie), and one of these for phone, earplugs, cash and card.
The only thing I put in my pocket is "pocket food" - usually the crust of a spicy pie I can't finish, but crave at the end of the night. Don't worry, it's wrapped in a napkin.
This is more of a mobility thing but personally, I bought and use those resistance bands and do hip, glute, and back exercises 3-4x/day to get the blood moving and I've noticed remarkably less stiffness and less imbalances from sitting all day. It's not much but I've found it to help me out during the day. Then I can proceed with my normal workouts instead of constantly having to fix problems caused by sitting.

We have ordered 5 go-tcha's from amazon with no issues at all. Made by Datel, the same ones you can get at gamestop. I have never heard of anyone getting banned for one. If you order on Amazon, just pay attention to the seller's name. Nintendo sells the go-plus, Datel sells the Go-tcha.

Huh, apparently the "Dead Wedge" is a thing. Same idea as a small plate but shaped more properly.
https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Wedge-Alternative-Powerlifting-Weightlifting/dp/B00TVVBD6O
The Deadwedge. If you ever end up at a gym that doesn't have a lever for loading a deadlift, or even worse, a gym without a plate loader that exclusively uses bumper plates, this can help you load your deadlifts without picking the bar up with one hand and sliding on a 45 with the other. It's lightweight, goes right in your gymbag, and you can just roll the bar up onto it, load your plates, and slide it down. Way less embarrassing than the method where you alternate between wiggling the plates out and lifting up the bar as the whole gym watches you, or trying to steal every 25 lb plate in the gym.
I bought a running belt to hold my phone when I run/ bike. It's been one of my best investments. I no longer worry about it falling out of a pocket or having to hold onto it. Here's a link to a more recent version of it:
https://www.amazon.com/Running-Belt-USA-Patented-Freerunning/dp/B019BQNTL0/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1523644120&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=running+belt&psc=1
I would recommend getting some resistance bands (around $10 on amazon) and doing exercises such as glute bridges, frog pumps, kickbacks, clams, squats, etc with them. If you google resistance band glute exercises a lot of examples will come up that will show you how to do them.
Start with the lower weight ones and once you learn the movements and feel your glutes activating then increase the resistance weight!
Edit: I have these myself for about a year and they work fine.
Ab wheels are great, definitely not a gimmick. But also dont spend more than $20 for one, its a simple piece anyone can make. Pull up Amazon and get the one with the most good reviews on it.
FWIW I have this one and have zero complaints, used it for years - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007IS74G/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I highly recommend this. I brought it into my office and have been on it every day for 30 minutes. Otherwise I just sit on my ass all day. Give this a thought.
Whenever I have complained about myself (mostly in terms of weight) my SO handles it exactly as I want him to. He reassures me that he thinks I am beautiful, but says that maybe we can look at reevaluating our diet, buying exercise equipment, etc... so that I can change if I want to. Its practical and comforting all at the same time. Recently he bought each of us a little elliptical trainer for our desks. Its nice that he supports me both in how I look now and how I want to look in the future.
Soffees or silkies as what we called them in the service. I don’t have mine handy but they’re around the 3.5-4oz weight. Great shorts for hiking in if you don’t mind showing some thigh.
https://www.amazon.com/Soffe-197V-SR459A01-Large-Mens-Running-ShortBlackMED/dp/B003AU5VZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525925510&sr=8-1&keywords=soffees+mens+shorts
Also- if you want to be viewed as a European and not robbed as an American, skip the long board shorts and go short.
Definitely worth having. I also like to use fat grips on the bar to help with grip strength. I guess you could use towels as well.
I do reps with one of these on long car rides. Pays off in many places....
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Hy8DybWX1EXYJ
I have this:
http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Total-Upper-Body-Workout/dp/B001ND04U4
Same thing
I dunno how short you like 'em...
But these are the most comfortable things to ever caress my balls while working out. The reviews are also pretty great.
First, don't look for shortcuts. Yes, you can play a Fmaj7 (x-x-3-2-1-0) or a power chord varation (x-8-10-10-10-x) but you're going to have to build up the strength to play barre chords sooner or later anyway.
What gauge strings are you using on your Samick? Since you're a beginner, I would recommend switching to extra light strings, which will make it much easier to play barre chords. If your guitar hasn't been set up properly, consider taking it to a guitar tech and ask them to lower the action on it so the distance between the strings and the fretboard isn't as great.
The F barre chord is the hardest barre chord to play because it's lowest one on the neck, where you need the most strength to play it. So start playing barre chords further up the neck, which will come a bit easier. I.E., try playing B major (7-9-9-8-7-7), or try minor barre chords like E minor (0-7-9-9-8-7).
Lastly, consider buying a Gripmaster hand exerciser and use it on your fretting hand whenever you're not playing guitar. I used one as a beginner some ten years ago and it helped a lot.
Don't get discouraged. Keep practicing.
$210 + shipping for 200lbs. of dumbell (up to 100 each). Depending on what you pay, that's what, 7 months?
The only drawback with those DB's is that they are long, so the ends protrude when doing bicep curls. Not a big issue though.
Similar to what other people have said, I run with a thin belt. I have this one and love it. I used to run with an arm band (including two half marathons) or would try putting my phone in my leggings pockets. It was all terrible. The belt really changed everything for me! I barely notice it. Ignore the first photo that they include in that link—they stuffed it with all kinds of things to show you that it can hold a lot, but it ends up making it look bulky. It's actually extremely thin and light.
+1 for flip belt. Can't vouch for the one you linked but I recently just got this one and it works great. One big pocket for your phone and a little one for keys/cards.

Don't look back!
Dude that guy is way more muscular than the average dude. The only way you can look like that in a year is with steroids. Anyways, you can still make drastic progress in a year. Do what everyone else said and read the FAQ first. A gym is ideal but you don't have to go if you don't want to. Buy some adjustable dumbbells. You'll also need a pull up bar. Start doing phraks greyskull. It's a fantastic beginner program and all of the exercises can be done with dumbbells. Deadlifts are kinda awkward though, I'd take them out and just do squats, it's not ideal but it's better than nothing. Train hard, eat big, sleep well and you'll see obvious changes in 8 weeks. Stay consistent and you'll reach that goal pic in a few years.
TLDR: Do phraks greyskull and lift progressively heavier weights, eat enough to gain 0.5-1 pound a week, sleep well.
I loose weight very quickly with cardio, however I'm already on my feet all day at work. It's not cardio vs weight training. It's more important to enjoy the workout and push yourself. If she doesn't enjoy weight training, that's okay. Maybe after doing cardio for a while she'll decide to ease into other activities. If she's already frustrated with the diet, how is adding exercises she doesn't enjoy going to help solve anything?
If she enjoys cardio, and has time for it, it might be beneficial to eat a little more, but also exercise a little more too. Is she pushing herself? Running a little more, or a little faster every week or two is one option, or maybe she should try HIIT?
If she spends a lot of time sitting down on the job, it would be a good idea to get up and walk a lap, or do whatever she can get away with in her work environment every hour.
Is this really something she wants? I understand there are plenty of good reasons why you might make a post on Reddit for her, maybe she doesn't have an account etc. I have to wonder since you made the post, is this something you want for her more than she actually wants herself? Not trying to judge anyone here.
As for yourself, there's a set of adjustable dumbbells that go from 5 to 52 lbs for about $100 on Amazon, and a set that goes up to 100 lbs (each) for around $200. I bought a pair and I'm very happy with them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GC76NW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Luo0CbMV8YTTD
Use a 2.5lb plate like others have been saying, or just carry a dead wedge in your gym bag.
What's the benefit of having one of these as opposed to just buying those rubber wedges
I don't get it
Use a running belt like this one and never have to worry about phone theft again. Plus you can keep your wallet there too. I use mine every day now, no more stuff in my pockets at parties!
I am trying to buy some resistance bands here in Australia for abductor work and so on, and ahh... the choices don't seem particularly good. I have kmart, $8 for 4 bands. It says made of "rubber".
http://www.kmart.com.au/product/4-micro-stretch-bands/1565303
Then there is rebel sport, a single resistance band for $15,
http://www.rebelsport.com.au/Product/PTP-Heavy-MicroBand/419949?menuFrom=40908
which seems like a massive rip off and has "20 exercises included!" or some stupid gimmick. It doesn't even say what it is made of.
Then I guess I could order from amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Fit-Simplify-Resistance-Exercise-Instruction/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=zg_bs_3407931_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QC3TP5048QKZ3307WNK9
5 resistance bands made of latex for $16 after shipping. It seems ridiculous that I would have to get something so simple from overseas. Yet I have the same issue with foam rollers. I like the hard polypropylene rollers on amazon, yet... not a single foam roller in Australia is made of pp. They just sell trigger point overpriced pvc pipes. Ehhhh... the problems of living on an island.
Loads do, myself included!
Ok so admittedly I haven't kept up with the gym-lifting much in the past couple of months, but before that I was combining a 1x/week moderately heavy lifting session with ~50 miles/week of running, mostly 5k focus but this year is shaping out to begrudgingly become more of a 10k-marathon. ANYWAY, back in college, I was running about as much, all for 1500m/mile/k/5k/6k XC, and lifting twice a week, a bit heavier but still not "powerlifter" heavy (for a scope, at 115lbs I was occasionally doing 3x5 deadlifts at 145lbs, but sometimes I'd just do 3x8 at 105 or whatever). Went find, the key was to always do the heavy lifts on the hard running workout days.
Now that I'm in my mid-20s and "whatever" (though I still care about PRs and aim to get them and have within this year), I do more what you're doing. Single-legged movements are key, so I'm so glad to see that you're already doing them. When I'm at home, I use loads of bands of relatively strong resistance for clamshells, sissy squats, etc. I also use a 15lb kettlebell for bulgarian split squats and for single-legged deadlifts. When I'm at the gym, I go into those with a bit more weight, slightly lighter regular deadlifts than I used to do, because I don't have as much raw strength as I did when I lifted regularly, rows, OHP, full-on 60lb barbell hip thrusts, etc.
One general bodyweight routine I recommend is the Myrtl Routine, which is targeted towards common running weaknesses. I also recommend you order a pack of resistance bands on Amazon, like these (just picked a random set of exercise bands, shop as you please, but those are cheap and look fine). You'll really be able to be sure you're strengthening the right muscles when you use those bands, and you can elevate your exercises to the next level. Bands are GREAT tools, and it's awesome how simple and cheap they are!

A stretch band, sliders, mini bands, a pilates ball, and an agility ladder. I also have cute workout clothes, a bluetooth speaker, a mat, pilates socks, handstand canes, yoga blocks, handstand blocks, a yoga wheel, a pullup bar, a headstand bench, a kettlebell (r/kettlebell for recommendations), 5 and 10lbs dumbbells, long/stretchy bands like therabands, a bosu ball, a jump rope, boxing gloves, focus mitts, a stopwatch, a swiss ball, and a pullup band.
Also not included are the kegel balls I bought on Amazon but I didn't know if you were counting pelvic floor workout equipment lol. Wow I think my house is actually a gym lmao. I'm actually a personal trainer lol.
Couldn't agree more regarding the purchase of a rack that includes plate storage. Its more space efficient and leaves more open floor space. I have a fitness reality rack (https://www.amazon.com/FITNESS-REALITY-810XLT-800lbs-Capacity/dp/B01N4I8FOY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1520431497&sr=1-1&keywords=fitness+reality+810xlt+super+max+power+cage) with T-2 plate holders, but if I were to buy again I'd think hard about getting a titan T-3 (T-3 over a T-2 because there seems to be more accessory options). However, from personal experience, I'd have to disagree regarding getting a flat bench and a "good" bar.
Regarding the bench, do you plan on doing incline bench/flys/curls/ rows/etc? The general sentiment of this community is buy once/buy forever. If that's the case, buy a good incline bench and call it a day. Otherwise, you buy the flat bench, then buy an adjustable bench down the road, and you're trying to store both of them in your 10x10 room. I got the el cheapo fitness reality (https://www.amazon.com/Fitness-Reality-Super-Adjustable-Weight/dp/B01CR4XFIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520431386&sr=8-1&keywords=fitness+reality) one for ~$80. It does the job, but isn't super heavy/wide. While it doesn't feel rock solid, I've had people throw up 250#s on it no problem, so for many of us it should do the job. Looking back, I would look into Titan's adjustable bench, as well as the Ethos one from Dicks. The Ethos is a little steep at $250, but is super study and heavy duty feeling.
As far as getting a "good bar" goes, why rush it? What are your numbers currently? I got the Dick's Fitness Gear 300 # set (https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/fitness-gear-300-lbolympic-weight-set-16fgeu300lbstwth7brb/16fgeu300lbstwth7brb) for ~$180. It can be had for cheaper if you sign up for their promotion emails and use a $10 or $20 off coupon. I've pulled 300#s and squatted 300#s and the bar hasn't bent yet. Yes, the knurling could be better, and it won't last a lifetime, but until my lifts are consistently over 300#s or the bar does start to bend, buying a "good' bar can wait. It does the job and I could think of several things I'd rather buy first for my home gym. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait until I'm forced to buy a new bar and can get something badass, but if you're on a budget and the 300lb weight set bar works for what you need, I wouldn't rush into getting a better bar.
Hello, perhaps I can help. I bought a titan T-3 rack, an Cap OB-86 bar, a cheap bench from amazon, and a few CAP olympic weights from Walmart (they were around 50 cents on sale at the time) and two stall mats from TSC. I would say that I roughly have 700$ in the whole deal. Everything is decent quality and will get you going for awhile.

If you hadn't seen this already, here's the rack itself with a few more reviews, if that helps. The bench also seems to be a near-identical re-brand of this one, so those reviews may be worth looking at.
The main problem I have is that these products seem to be fairly new, so I wonder if they'll stand the test of time.
Abs are made in the gym, and revealed in the kitchen. You have to build your abs by working them, but you won't actually see them unless you diet properly and reduce your body fat %.
The best all around ab workout is done with an ab wheel.
I got a cheap 15$ one off Amazon works perfect. It's just two wheels with handles doesn't need to be a 60$ hand crafted masterpiece. Here is the one I got sometime ago
One of these infomercial-lookin' things.
Shitty "As Seen On TV!" marketing aside, they are excellent pieces of equipment for the price.
Just make sure you have good form. The movement is essentially a dynamic plank - meaning you still have to maintain a "hollow body"/activated core throughout the ROM.
Just my two cents... but since you mentioned Amazon, this just so happens to be the ab wheel that I use that I purchased from them.
It came with one of those Gold's Gym kits with the doorway pull up bars and push up handles. Online, it says the whole kit is ~$50 (we bought it for $30 years ago). I'd recommend this. My gym has one and it gets used by a lot of people, but it holds up well. I don't see the point in spending $50 for one.
Then you have the even more absurdist bouncy ball chair
Edit: SOLD
I've got a 40 lb adjustable dumbbell set and 4x 10lb plates I'm looking to get rid of. Cost me a total of ~$100, would be willing to let them go for $50 OBO.
Here's the set: https://www.amazon.com/CAP-Barbell-40-pound-Adjustable-Dumbbell/dp/B000VCDXNS
Here are the 10lb plates: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001103EDS/
I am 28, trying to lose a few pounds after modifying my goal weight down 5 pounds (to 130). I tried last round to get away from daily weigh-ins, but that was a disaster so I am back to keeping track of my weight every day.
I get exercise primarily in the form of running. (It makes me sad baiser that you said you hate running!) I have been running for almost a year, but only about 5 months outside. I am currently training for my second half-marathon, and for my 30th birthday I want to run 30 miles, so I'll be building that mileage up over the course of the next year or so.
My main goal for this round is to add in some consistent strength training (minimum 2x per week). I just bought this so I have no excuse not to get stronger.
I bought a pair of something like these off eBay so I could use my Olympic plates. dumbbells
I save space that way. The only issue I have is trying to superset until I can get some more 10lb plates

I'm going to recommend an exercise program to you called Strong Curves. It's designed specifically for women and focuses on building lower-body strength (specifically in the butt) to enhance our figures.
It has its own subreddit, /r/strongcurves, and the community there is very helpful. The sidebar has tons of useful information to help you get started. If you want to see some butt transformations, just search the word "progress" in the subreddit search and you'll see people going from butts like yours to really very substantial butts.
The SC book outlines about 5 different plans that range from plans for complete beginners, to plans for people without access to a gym, to plans for people that want to go all out. All the exercises in each plan are described in details with pictures in the book. You can also Youtube each exercise for in depth descriptions of how to do each one correctly.
More about the book: you can buy/pirate/borrow/check out from the library. Here's a link to amazon. I found my first copy on piratebay, but bought a used copy online because it's nice to have a physical book to reference.
I've seen a lot of progress using it and I'm a couple months in. The beginner's plan suggests an hour long session 4 times a week. You can totally skip the warmups at first just to get a feel for everything. With a set of dumbells (I have these), it's extremely approachable and very effective. I think it will give you a lot of confidence.
If budget is really a concern, then no equipment workouts, like Convict Conditioning, are the best choice.
If you want equipment, just get a gym membership, it will pay for itself pretty quickly. I bought a $40 dumbbell set thinking that I'd just add on weights as I needed them. You will almost certainly need to buy weights faster than you come out ahead financially. The next step up is 4 10lb plates, which is ~$40, and that brings your weight total to 80lbs. The next is 4 20lb plates, which is ~$80, and brings your weight total to 160lbs. If you're doing squats or deadlifts, you'll outstrip this within a few months if you follow a linear-gains program like StrongLifts or Starting Strength. Consider that StrongLifts has you start squats with just the bar (45lbs) and increases weight by 5lbs each session (3 sessions/week). You're at 160lbs in less than 8 weeks, making your investment of ~$160 at least twice as expensive as most gym memberships for the given time.
If you want to do barbell training, you should also invest in a bench and rack, which can be costly in terms of both space and money. This is a good idea long-term if you can afford it.
>Adjustable dumbbells are pretty damn expensive.
$60...
I also use a SPIbelt and love it. I definitely recommend one of these.
Link: https://smile.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Spibelt-Original/dp/B004QQTDA2/
I have a SPI Belt and I love it. I'm a big sweater and it keeps it dry. My wife also loves hers. Much better for us for running with.
I use this. The spi belt. Super minimal and gets the job done for my phone especially if you run with wireless headphones.
I don't use an armband either, I find it it nearly impossible to operate any controls when it's on your arm all awkward. I use a SpiBelt - http://www.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Small-Personal-Item-belt/dp/B004QQTDA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422278174&sr=8-1&keywords=spibelt
In my experience they're all a bit "pinchy" if you want them tight. I end up with marks on the arm I wear it on! Alternatively try a small running belt like a SpiBelt or a FlipBelt . I personally use a SpiBelt as it's smaller and I can access the phone easily when I need to but see what works for you.
If I may make a suggestion: armbands are a pain in the ass and not worth using. For running, I use one of these and a set of bluetooth headphones and I will never go back.
No more cutting off your circulation, no more cables flopping around, pulling out your earbuds. I'm really surprised more people don't know about these.
Edit: And my home key fits right in the pouch. Hell, I can keep my ID and debit card/a couple of bucks in there for emergencies.
I would go with an olympic bar since it would be more versatile. You can also pick up a set of Fat Gripz if you want to essentially turn your olympic bar into a thick bar. I just picked a pair up on Black Friday, and I've been using them for pullups; they definitely add some difficulty in that area.

I looked pretty hard on craigslist for local deals for a few weeks, but it's hard to beat the above prices.
I've been a member of a few gyms, and don't really have horror stories, but it's so much nicer being in complete control of everything.
I've got a Jungle Gym.
I've only ever hung it from my wall-mount pull-up bar, but looking at the little soap-bars at the end of the strap, I'd say that, over time, they would put shallow dents in the wood.
Have you seen this doorway bar? It looks like it'd be a lot less hard on moulding than the usual Iron Gym. Another option is a free-standing pullup bar. You can either buy one, or, cheaper and better, but harder to do, build one.
One other option is to mount a bar on a large, exposed beam in your garage. Talk it over with your landlord, many are surprisingly cool about drilling into exposed wood.
I got these about a year or so ago. I don’t think the 200 lbs was an option at the time and now I’m annoyed.

I struggle with the same issue, and I'm the same age as you! I've picked at my cuticles/hang nails since I was a kid and also pick my lips.
Therapy is a first great step. Your therapist might notice, but that's good. There's times where I'll be talking to my therapist and not even notice I'm doing it. She will point it out and ask what's going on in my mind that I defaulted to that.
I found when I got started into nail care (cuticle oil, pushing back my cuticles, painting my nails) that there was less dead skin to pick in the first place, but also I didn't want to ruin my hands because putting acetone on open wounds hurts very badly.
I use this for when I feel especially frustrated, I find being mindful of my actions and closely observing how I feel while I pick has helped me to decrease that a lot. I'm like you where I can absentmindedly do it. I also try to keep extra tubes of chapstick, I'm much less likely to pick if my lips are moisturized(which seems like an uphill battle at times).
Speak to those in your life if you feel their suggestions aren't helpful, because I experienced resentment towards partners who cast a 'well just stop' attitude to the situation.
If you ever need support or someone to talk with, feel free to PM me!
I recommend purchasing one of these to help strengthen those weak hands
Get these heavier dumbbells instead.
https://www.amazon.com/One-Pair-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Kits/dp/B0087T8UOE
what about this pullup bar? it has a nice cushion to boot!
I would not recommend the iron gym pull up bar. You will leave black marks on the frame which can be a pain to get out if you are renting. I ended up cutting up a white t-shirt to cover the parts that touch the frame and that worked well.
I recently upgraded to the Perfect Pull up bar and really like it. I can do wide grip now, which I couldn't before. The foam on the front of the frame offers good protection, but I am still using a t-shirt to cover the back bar. Also the construction is more heavy duty than the iron gym was and it is a similar price.
This is what we have in our apartment! We leave it up on the bathroom and if we have guests we just take it down :)
I've been using this one. It's nice because it allows you to actually have a somewhat wide grip. It's also quite stable for one arm stuff as long as you're somewhere in the middle between the support bars.
Apologies for the delay.
Here's the one I got, and it fits perfectly. Make sure to get the original model, if you do. I read some reviews of people getting a different model than they ordered, but I got it through the seller "GDN14" and got the right one, with the adjustable depth (also has adjustable height).
Overall I've been quite satisfied, although it does seem to be rated at a max weight of 220lbs (I'm not even close, so not a problem for me, but something to be aware of).
This is how I got my chin ups and pull ups, too! :) I ordered my bar off of Amazon for $25 at the time ($30 now)
If you’re going with AX-1, I’d go to a used sports equipment store and find something like these variable dumbbells. I’d guess you can find them for about 50-70 bucks and you don’t need more than 40 pounds on each side to start, really. There are more convenient blocks but they are more expensive.
You will also want to pick up a used bench and pull up bar. Again, don’t bother with new.
Deadwedges.
https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Wedge-Alternative-Powerlifting-Weightlifting/dp/B00TVVBD6O
I keep one of these in my gym bag. Makes loading so much easier.
Great that someone's making a cheap one.
I use a $10 wedge instead. https://amazon.com/Dead-Wedge-Alternative-Powerlifting-Weightlifting/dp/B00TVVBD6O/
I used to just use a 5# plate. I think the wedge is worth $10 because the curve holds the innermost plate in place so it doesn't roll. But if you have hex plates, or really don't want to spend $10, using a 5# plate works fine.
There are a few cheap tools to help with this, like the one below.
http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Wedge-Alternative-Powerlifting-Weightlifting/dp/B00TVVBD6O
I have a small runner's belt that I use.
Cheap and reliable.
All I ever take in is phone, a card, and cash. It sometimes takes some creative placement, but I don't like to go without some mints and hand sanitizer. There isn't a more disgusting feeling than using a port-o-potty and not having a way to clean your hands, lol.
Does this fanny pack count as "worn"? Otherwise it's pretty heavy.

I would go for the rack since it's a lot more versatile than any individual piece of equipment. Also 8x8 isn't very big so you'll want to eliminate as many unitaskers as possible. With a budget of $600 you should try and look at used equipment on OfferUp or Craigslist to get better quality equipment, but new is not out of the question.
Here's a list of what you can get for a pretty decent setup at $600...
(Prices are sale prices. Sign up for CamelCamelCamel or Keepa and set alerts for the items on Amazon. The frequently go down to the prices listed)
Item | Price
---|---
Fitness Reality 810XLT Power Rack | $150
Fitness Reality Adjustable Bench | $85
CAP Barbell 300 lb. Olympic Grip Weight Set | $180
4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. Thick Rubber Stall Mat | $40 x 3
Valor Fitness MB-A BD-7 Dip Handle Accessory Set | $35
CAP Barbell Olympic 2-Inch Plate and Bar Storage Rack | $30
That gets you to the $600 budget on the dot.
This should cover most of your needs. You can replace the plate tree with some Titan weight pegs to hang from the rack if you want that instead. You can also just throw some plywood on the floor instead of the floor mats or mix and match plywood and floor mats.
This is almost the same setup I have except I was able to pick up some dumbells and plates off OfferUp so it came out a little cheaper. So far my home gym setup is at $520 and all I'm missing is the stall mats so I should be hitting the $600 goal myself once I get those.
I have this Fitness Reality bench. It's ok. It's solid and adjustable but a bit narrow. I also don't like how high the back goes when it's upright, I can't move my head if I want to do seated OHP.
NO!
What’s your budget? You should mainly be looking at a bar/plate weight set, power rack, and bench. Those are the essentials to get you started

Okay maybe it was more than $10 but still cheap.
I would love this ab wheel because my top priority right now is to focus on myself and get into shape because it would make my life healthier and happier. Or anything from my exercise wishlist would be really amazing (I have a $5 jumprope on there also)!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
/u/autumnfalln would like this iPod armband for exercising. She entered it into my "for your health" contest last week but I wasn't able to pick everyone and would love for her to have it! Here was her contest entry explaining why she wanted it: "Anyway, I really need to start exercising more. I'm a full time college student with a part time job and any spare time I have these days (which is barely any!) is just NOT spent exercising. I'd much rather relax and do nothing, haha. But I've realized I'm way more out of shape than I used to be, and you know what? I'm not gonna take that, haha.
SO, I've resolved to riding my bike more often, since that's one of my favorite things to do, and I'm going to start doing some cardio routines. Problem is, I like to listen to music when I'm doing those things, but I have absolutely nothing to put my iPod in. I don't exactly feel comfortable just having it hang out in my sweatshirt pocket- and sometimes I don't even have pockets!"
I don't need the double talk, I need to get in shape!
Total: $204.95, plus any tax and shipping.
Note that the parallel bar station does not store as easily as you might like. It's very useful, though; you can use it for dips, bodyweight rows, L-sit training, etc. The paralette bars linked by batman1285 are probably a good substitute, though they won't give you as much clearance from the ground.
What are your thoughts on the balance ball chairs?
Hooray for finally getting the hula hoop! I hope it's awesome. Can't wait to hear how it works out!
I was thinking about getting a stability ball as well. Or, have you seen this chair?
Another treadmill is an option, or a stationary bike (I have this one and I like it, it's nothing fancy though), an elliptical, or a set of dumbbells that you can use for both strength and for added weight when doing an aerobic workout.
Of course there are others, but those are my suggestions. Look on Craigslist or something similar and see if you can get something for free or cheap, then you might be able to get more than one! Unless you're well off, then go straight for more than one from Amazon. ;)
I really like my adjustables.

cheaper, more duable, and expandable to any future needs.
I use CAP adjustable dumbbells with 10, 5, and 2.5 lb plates. These can go from 7.5 lbs to 85 lbs per dumbbell (that's the limit unless you add 25lb plates which is awkward). Just like with a barbell, it's easy to start with whatever weight you need now and pick up extra plates later as you get stronger.
These have worked great for me the past couple years:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VCDXNS/
2x20 pound (adjustable) dumbells (or up to 35 pounds on one), and you can easily buy more weights to add if you want/need.
Yeah, it helps to have a routine. I found it easier after forcing myself for 2-3 days, the 4th/5th day got easier to do. I also have a hard time keeping myself motivated day after day.
I got these last summer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VCDXNS/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
It was like $7 cheaper than. But I find I can have each dumbbell with a different weight, allowing me to work on different muscles without needing to swap weights, making it easier to stay motivated as less work is needed. The point of this for me was to just get my body to wake up in the morning and to kick up my metabolism early in the day, before eating anything.
Also, doing this in the background helps too. Like I wake up and often watch last nights daily show or some late night thing. So instead of just sitting there and watching the 20-30 minutes, I will stand and do the weights while watching it.
As for the eggs and sausage, The night before, cut up a regular sausage (the ones that are just a bit bigger than a hot dog). Cut it in half length wise, and then into cubes. And put them in a small tuperware into the fridge. In the morning take it out and throw it on a pan that has heated up a bit. Toss the sausage around until it starts to cook and sizzle. While it cooks mix 2 eggs, a pinch of salt/pepper, and a tablespoonish of milk. Add a tad of oil (if needed, depends on your sausage) and pour the eggs over the sausage. Cover for ~ 2 min.
On a plate put some mixed greens, I like a 50/50 spinach/Lettuce blend, with a balsamic vinaigrette drizzled over. When the omlet can slide around the pan: flip it, sprinke some shreded cheese, and slide off the pan onto the plate, letting one half flop over the other. Sprinkle with more salt/pepper as desired.
Takes about 5 minutes to do, and is really tasty. cleanup is a plate, bowl, Tupperware, pan, spatula 2 forks and a knife.
Ugh, my husband does this too. We have this set with a few extra plates and he leaves his weight on there and screws them in so tightly that it's a struggle for me to get my (much, much lighter) weight on there.
Argh! Silly husbands.
Whoa! What about something like this? https://smile.amazon.com/Stamina-InMotion-E1000-Compact-Strider/dp/B000VICRO8/ref=sr_1_4?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1518982003&sr=1-4&keywords=eliptical+exercise+machine
I haven't played yet, so I don't know if that would be a no go due to having to turn or something...
There is a video on the bottom as part of the photos here. It gives you an idea of the range of motion. It's not a stair stepper, but it has the more circular motion of an elliptical, so it might be different than what you have.
Side note: I only doing it standing. I tried doing it sitting and found that awful (I'm tall though, 5'10", maybe it wouldn't be so bad for shorter people).
At the office, I usually just hop on it every hour for a few minutes to counteract sitting. However, at home, I've done it for extended times to get a cardio workout. The resistance can be increased with a knob to help get a better workout, and with the circular movement, you can do it pretty fast while still feeling it's a natural motion. I'd say it's comparable to very brisk walking. It's not as good as running, but you can veg out and watch something easily, and it's easy on the joints. I tend to do it when I don't feel like running, so it's a bit easier to get motivated to do it too. My boyfriend holds dumbbells in his hands while he does it.
Hey friend, my mom has been having trouble with arthritis for a while (she's 67) and you know what has helped a lot? She got these portable pedaling things that don't have any resistance and uses them to move her joints around without load. In fact, her physical therapist recommended it because she needed a knee replacement. The knee replacement can only have the range of motion that she had at the time of surgery, you see, so she had to increase it somehow. She found that the pedal thing not only increased her range of motion in the damaged knee but also led to a lessening of her arthritis symptoms in the other knee and hips, probably by stimulating synovial fluid production (happens with movement) without the weight pushing at the inflamed joint.
She has one at work and one at home. You can put it under a desk or in front of a chair while you watch TV and just move your joints around. I am 30 and am finding that using it is kind of soothing to some knee pain and creakiness that I experience from time to time, especially when I'm not exercising regularly.
Here's a link to the one she has. Oh hey you can increase the resistance and it can be used while standing too, didn't know that. The angle is a little weird while sitting, you may have to prop up the front with some blocks (that's what she did). I realize this might not be for everyone, but people always recommend water exercise therapy for arthritis and this is the closest thing to it on dry land, I believe.
Alright RAoA, I'm going to be more honest with you tonight than I am with almost anyone in my life. I am fat. Technically, I am morbidly obese. I need to lose about 150 pounds before I can be anywhere near the weight I'm supposed to be.
What I looked like when I was 18
The only current full body picture that exists of me
The ugly truth
I was saving up for this before, but money has been hard to come by so my plans were indefinitely put on hold. Since that is over the price limit for this current contest, I'd really like this Pilates for Beginners kit.
My initial set up when I didn't want to spend a huge amount, but wanted the capability to do any major lift was as follows:
Bench and Rack
Barbell and weights
Plate Rack
Mats
Plate compatible dumbbells
I highly recommend buying a few extra plates if you plan to go heavier, I picked up 2 more 45's, 2 25's, 2 10's on top of what that set comes with. I was happy with it until I upgraded the rack and bench as my gym grew.
I highly recommend this one.
I got mine at Winners (of all places) for around $25 or so. I like it because it has a lot of grip options, and the wide grips come out a bit so you're not rubbing your elbows along the wall.
I have a door frame pull up bar (like this) with some ab straps. The pull up bar is excellent at hanging clothes on. I'm guessing it could also be used for exercise.
$20 OBO. Please don't make me move this to the new house.
Shorts like these plus any tank top regardless of its logo, color, purpose or whatever. Man I can't stand people appearing in Gold Gym crap or any other "brand".

Seriously, huge win.
I doubt a sock would help much much because I don't think the phone generates enough heat on it's own for any insulation to help. What works for me is to keep my phone close to my body, so body heat keeps it from getting too cold. I keep my phone in an spibelt under my shirt and haven't ever had my phone shut off while on me (but I have had it shutoff when leaving it in my car overnight, so I do know my phone susceptible to that.

This machine will not mimic free weights. But depending on your goals you might not need or want free weights - a machine could definitely get and keep you pretty well toned.
If your concern is space, there are lots of options, though. For example, I have a system that totally slides/rolls/folds away out of sight when I am done: dumbbells, a standalone bench, etc. There's even for example these things.
I have this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006CW02ZS/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

adhd person here. motivation is especially hard for me sometimes. exercise has been super helpful. i do cardio every morning, and the r/bodyweightfitness recommended routine three nights a week.
but i started with just cardio. 30 minutes on a stationary bike. i used to listen to music while doing it, but my mood shifts pretty often, so i often don’t feel like listening to whatever music is on my phone. now i listen to audiobooks.
i pick a book that i’m really into and only listen to it when i’m on the bike. it motivates me to get going, especially when i’m invested in the story. by picking a book to only listen to when biking, my mind links the enjoyment of the story to the act of exercising, so the anticipation makes it a bit easier to get started sometimes. plus i can shut the world out for 30 minutes and be wherever the book wants to take me.

here’s a link to an inexpensive stationary bike that’s good for beginners. small footprint, foldable, and you can do cardio from the privacy of your home. mods, let me know if i’m breaking any rules by posting the link, i’ll delete it.
even if it’s not this, i hope you find some exercise that works for you! it’ll help to elevate your mood and motivation. and don’t be hard on yourself if you skip a day or two. set up a schedule and try really hard to stick to it, but also recognize that (mental and physical) rest is important. so give yourself some time if you need it. love from an internet stranger.

I feel I may have really crappy genetics when it comes to my tendons though. Keep getting lots of tendonitis issues from lifting weights even do I do it very conservatively.
As others have stated, try barre chords further down the neck... F barre in the 1st position requires a good deal of finger strength. Try B barre in 7th pos, then A at 5 then G at 3. Work your way up to F at 1st.
Having good position/posture well help - (assuming you play right handed) left leg up a bit using a foot rest, guitar resting between legs, neck of guitar angled up about 30ish degrees, left palm on the side of the neck, thumb directly behind frets on the back of the neck - like youre trying to pinch the strings down between your thumb and index. Dont try to wrap your thumb around the neck, unless you have crazy monkey hands having the thumb out of position makes barres a lot more difficult .
Look into buying something like this to build finger strength
http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
I used these exact ones and they helped a lot with finger strength and dexterity.
In short: practice.
I have a similar experience to /u/Vayshen. The biggest benefit for me was the Wii Fit U telling me how many calories I needed to burn every day for X amount of days to reach my target weight, and then the Fit Meter keeping track of my steps/calories. I've been more motivated to go on short walks, take stairs instead of the escalator, ride my bike, or just park further away from my destination so I can walk a little bit. The fit meter really shows you how far just a little bit of extra effort can go.
That being said, I now use the actual software to track my progress and do Yoga three times a week now that the weather is better. The software and routines were amazing during the winter, though! I was using it 3-4 times a week without a ton of weight loss but I was feeling much better about myself. I don't have much to lose (5'11', 150 lbs) so most of the exercise I've been doing has been more mental strength about my body. I feel better physically, even if my weight has stayed the same. I've seen success stories for people with more weight (even around 200lbs at the same height, you can see great results).
I've also supplemented the software with this cheap ab roller which I do 4 sets of 10 rolls on off days, and 5 sets of 5 during my Wii Fit workouts (mainly in between workout activities. I also got a set of 10 or 15lb dumb bells that I do the same with.
I've lost about 4 pounds in the 4 months that I've had the software, but I haven't weighed myself in 3 weeks as of today. All in all, I use it more of a motivator to get active! It's been more of a mental help than anything else, especially during those cold or rainy days when I can't walk or bike.
If you did it every morning, I'm sure you would see results! I suggest doing the premade routines so you don't end up doing only the fun activities. They usually have 8 fun things and 2 aerobic type exercises. Mix that in with a short walk each day and some light weight lifting and you'll be much more tone than you are now!
I bought this one on Amazon and love it:
http://smile.amazon.com/Valeo-VA2413RE-AB-WHEEL/dp/B0007IS74G?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
I don't know that it's "BIFL" quality necessarily but I don't know how you could break it either.
Ab Wheel
This is the one I use. The grips come off and the axle is a hollow rod.
Disassembles in 3 seconds.
I do push ups every morning and i use the Ab wheel every couple of days. I almost don't eat meat but a lot of "fromage blanc" (? I don't know the translation?!). Otherwise, fruits, vegetables and rice/pasta..
This is mine. It works fine- recommend.
I've got this ab wheel that is pretty decent. There's a similar one at Dick's if you have one near you.
If you're not looking for anything particularly luxurious try a yoga ball. They're cheap as shit and can be used as a foot rest as well. They're also easy to move and store and super good for your posture (I guess).
They even make a special yoga ball chair if you're interested.
I don't know if this is exactly the kind of thing you are looking for, but have you thought about trying one of these?: http://www.amazon.com/Gaiam-Balance-Ball-Chair-Black/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314801804&sr=8-1
I've had this Gaim yoga ball chair for the past 2 years. It has held up really well, and I like that it has the seat base which makes it a bit taller and also a bit easier in the workplace (don't want that thing rolling away!).
I used to sit on one of the big exercise balls but found it limited my movement between monitors and when people would come up to my desk. Found the perfect solution:
Gaiam Balance Ball Chair, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sioOyb4P4JKR5
I've been using it for two weeks and don't have back pain anymore or hip pain! Well worth it.

Gaiam Balance Ball Chair, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_zCStybS2KCRSA
Check out getting a yoga ball, possibly with a chair adapter. I work in tech from home and game a lot, so I'm in my desk chair for up to 14 hours on some days, and a normal chair was KILLING my lower back. I ordered one of these, and while I still get sore on occasion (I'm pushing 30 so that's the result of a mostly stationary life I guess) it's miles above my old standard chair and the soreness isn't nearly as bad.
Here's the one I have:

My desk is just a standard table top style Ikea desk, and it works fine for me. Never cared for the keyboard/mouse trays below the desk myself.
It's not a "medicine ball", rather a "exercise" or "swiss" ball.
http://www.gearfire.net/10-reasons-to-use-an-exercise-ball-as-your-chair/
You can even buy an actual chair made of one with a backrest
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007VB4NE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The exercise ball is smaller than a normal one I think, but mine came with the backing piece from here.
Honestly, why aren't you building a gym at home? All you need is two dumbbell bars, an olympic weight bar, a pull up rack, and enough space to do pushups comfortably and sit all the gear so its not in the way. It is cheaper to own these than paying the gym membership.

And for a pull up rack, get a Stamina or XMark power tower. They have a bunch of different models, get one that fits your needs.
Unless you're a body builder, this is all most people need unless they're focusing on very specific things.
I would buy cast iron plates, if you're looking to get a set that will last you a while. I would consider this over this. The advantage of cast iron (aside from durability) is that it will be easy to find additional plates as you grow.
To me, there is no reason to buy new weight plates. In the US we have a used sporting goods chain where you can easily get used plates for $.59/lb. If you get a good deal on weight plates, you could get new dumbbell handles with spin-lock collars. For dumbbell handles, look for heavy, all metal construction with collars that spin freely.
I've been using Phrak's GSLP, just with adjustable dumbbells, plus a few sets of 1" weights at 1.25lb, 10lb, and 25lb, also from amazon.
Basically you can put this together just with amazon.
Here's the replacements I used:
Increases:
I have no shame - I got mine from either Target or Walmart I think. I'm not talking about one of the nice "block" sets where you can snap them in and change them easily. These are basically two threaded handles with weights and spin-collars to lock them on. They take an extra 20-30 seconds to change, but it's worth the several hundred dollars you mentioned.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Cap-Barbell-40-Pound-Dumbbell-Set/dp/B000VCDXNS
I started SL about a month ago -- also almost no upper body strength. No shame in the dumb bells. I'll see if I can find it, but there are some posts about it around here. It only took me a couple weeks to work up to the bar on almost all of the exercises (still using dumbbells for Overhead Press, though).
I started with the dumbbells that you can load weights onto: something like these. at a home gym to get comfortable building some weight.
It wasn't long at all until I moved to the bar (and it did get easier once I could use the bar.) Seriously, you'll be surprised at your progress in just a couple weeks. I still think that SL is a great beginning programming for learning form and incrementally building strength.
In just a couple weeks, I noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in my upper body/core strength when I went to pick up my kayak...it was like "oh this used to be hard/impossible" now I felt like "what, did someone switch this thing out for a lighter one?" Have fun!
I have and like these:
http://www.amazon.com/Cap-Barbell-40-Pound-Dumbbell-Set/dp/B000VCDXNS/
They are adjustable and don't really max out assuming you have the plates to load. I have loaded 100lbs on these with no issue.
I was in the same boat. I got a set of these from amazon for like 50 bucks. I've been doing like 20 mins a day alternating between arms exercises and weighted squats and I'm already seeing an improvement after ~10 days. Let me know if you want info on my routine. I'm only doing smalltime stuff now, but it's right for my level and you gotta start somewhere.
I got these two adjustable kettlebells to use at home and they are amazing. This one adjusts from 5lb to 8lb to 12lb, and this one starts off at 20lbs and you can add up to 3 plates to it (5 or 10lbs) to make varying sizes. I also got this adjustable dumbbell set. Those 3 things along with a few sizes of resistance bands and I can do pretty much any exercise I want at home!
Bouncy Bands and Under-desk Ellipticals are both ways to get your feet/legs moving while still typing, is that what you're looking for?
I've had something similar under my desk for 2 years. I love it. I pedal for at least 2 hours a day while at work. I have a knee injury so my record of 6 hours can be a bit much.
The one I have is actually an eliptcal that can be turned around to be a pedal machine. I think this fits better under a desk because of the more forward motion of the legs instead of up and down.

>I may still be a bit salty. But more weight-related, I hate days where I just sit on my ass and do nothing, and my apartment doesn't allow for doing much at home.
I've been bad about using it since moving to my new place, but this glorious motherfucker will change your life. Tiny, quiet, and very easy to put together. I used to hit several thousand steps easily while playing Final Fantasy XV in my second-floor apartment. I also live in Florida, so walking outside during the summer is like waltzing into the armpit of hell - this lets me stay inside and exercise.
Heck, yeah I do! But does it even count if I don’t get a little picture that I can spin on my phone? Hardly.
As far as if you should do the same, I’d definitely recommend it. I got a little elliptical machine type thing off amazon and do (hopefully) around an hour on each morning. Park it in front of the TV, throw on an episode of Preacher or whatever, maybe finish off with something else to reach a full hour.
I was 34 when I went through the academy. This did wonders for my knee health. I'm still sore after a search drill. But not like I was when I first joined up.
I have an under the desk elliptical.

I love it. It's easy to put together, it's quiet, it has a decent tensioner, and I love gaming and exercising, or watching movies and exercising. I have it on a little carpet so that I can drag it on my hardwood floors.
I can't really help you with the treadmill situation since I've never bought one but I did buy this last September and have gotten a lot of use out of it. I like it so much I use it every day. you would obviously not be walking on it but would use it more like an elliptical while standing up (though this takes a lot of balance and will really get your heart rate up) or an exercise bike while sitting down. I took a gamble because of the price and size and I'm glad I went for it.
I never liked this style of dumbell personally. I highly recommend these as they use standard clips and barbell plates. http://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Solid-20-Inch-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s03

Alright well I've looked up some stuff, your going to want a power cage with olympic weights and a bench at the bare minimum.
Some stuff I've found about $950 before shippping:
cage 390: https://www.titan.fitness/cages-and-racks/t-3-racks/titan-t-3-series-short-power-rack-36-deep.html
Titan cages aren't as nice as rogue, but they are still very nice cages that has a wide variety of attachments you can have. Since your on a somewhat limited budget and this will save you $400

This is a very cheap set, but this will get you some starter weights and a starter bar. Since your a complete beginner, this bar should be fine for a while. Most bars will bend before they break so you'll know when you need to replace it, but probably around a 315 squat or deadlift.
bench incline/decline 300: https://www.amazon.com/Rep-Adjustable-Bench-Capacity-Incline/dp/B00YNS7D9G/ref=sr_1_17?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1500496016&sr=1-17&keywords=adjustable+bench
I don't know a lot about this bench, but I like it because it has a high weight capacity and it is incline and decline. This will give you a much wider range of stuff to do vs a flat or just an incline bench.
landmine attachemnt for cage 30: https://www.titan.fitness/landmine-rack-attachment.html
A landmine is super nice for rows and I even use it for shoulders
adjustable dumbbells 41: https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Solid-20-Inch-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500496213&sr=8-1&keywords=adjustable+olympic+dumbbells
Adjustable dumbbells, more inconvenient than individual weights or the quick change sets, but this gives you a lot of flexibility for very cheap and you can re use the weights you already have.
EDIT:
Since I'm still about 800 short I'l throw some more suggestions:
Maybe upgrade the bar - this way you don't need to worry about it bending on you or you growing out of it while your in college. The rogue bars are suggested a lot on here because they are good quality for their price. They should hold up for a very very long time and be a nice bar. When looking for a bar, the only thing you really need to look at is weight capacity and the knurling (groves in the bar for grip). You probably want center knurling for your squats. There are other factors with bars like the amount of whip, how much the collars spin and such but you'll pretty much want a good quality general purpose bar.
$275
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-ohio-power-bar
Lat pulldown / cable row machine $200
https://www.amazon.com/Akonza-Machine-Fitness-Attachment-Pulldown/dp/B01FYLE7OY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500497021&sr=8-1&keywords=cable+pulldown+machine
I know nothing about this particular machine, but it looks like it has decent reviews. This will allow you to do rows and pull downs.
You may want to build a platform for your cage, you'll want to do this with plywood and horsestall mats so that you can do deadlifts without breaking your floor. This will probably run you 300, probably less, but lets go with 300.
If you're using olympic style plates I would just suggest getting these.
$800 for only 180lb of weight? Fucking lol no it's not worth it.
You can spend maybe $150 on a plate loaded DB and 180lbs of plates. Fuck off and die Jeff Cavaliere.
Edit: Shit, you don't even need 180lbs. One DB is all you actually need. One DB handle and 90lbs. $90-100 absolute max for exactly the same equipment. 25 bucks for a handle. Buy a bunch of 10lb plates on CraigsList for $7-$8 each.
I just bought two of these and they're fantastic. Get yourself some 10, 5 and 2.5 lb plates (any sporting goods store should have them, or check Craigslist) and you're good to go.
Something like this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010YOBB4/
Okay, so you already have a bike that you're using to commute. If that takes you 20+ minutes in one direction, that's enough to get rolling. Otherwise, I suggest working in some dedicated cardio time. Even though your challenge physically is not to lose weight but to get stronger, cardio is great for your heart, your metabolism, your hormonal balance, and basically your overall health.
Depending on which way you swing, you may or may not benefit from working out in your dorm. Personally, I want to go some place where I can just cut loose and totally focus on the workout. Plus, I find that I begin to hate the place where I live if I do too many different things there. Perhaps when you get to the point that you own a house or something where you can partition off a work space over there, a hanging out space over there, etc. exercising in your home can work optimally. I just go to a park about a block from my flat since there are some bars there I can use for pull ups. I haven't decided yet whether to do this straight through the winter, get a gym membership, or purchase a relatively inexpensive door mounted bar like this one. But in your case, you're already paying fees for the upkeep of your university's gym; so, why not get some use out of that?
And not to sound like a broken record, but the FAQ over at r/fitness would probably give you a bunch of great ideas. Go get 'em, bro!
Lost 75 lbs a few years ago with no gym, trainer, etc. The only equipment I had was some free weights (for curls and things like that) and eventually a pull-up bar (I'd recommend this one ).
I managed to go from 5' 8" 215lbs to 140lbs (pretty small at this point) over the course of about half a year. It can be done without anything other than motivation and willpower. To be honest, I kept thinking I'd plateau around 180lbs, then 170lbs, etc. Once you get your lifestyle changed, the weight won't stop dropping. I realize I started at a lower weight than you are, but the only real difference is the length of time it'll take you to get where you want. Once you get through the first few months, it won't be "losing weight" anymore, it'll just be living your life.
I posted what I did to someone else earlier today. It's a long post, but I tried to give as much advice as I could.
Sorry about the length, I'm just trying to say every helpful bit of advice I can think of. I really hope it helps. In short, just do little things like eating less, snacking less, and being more active.
My advice to you (and how I did it):
Pay an extreme amount of attention to what you eat. Eat slightly smaller meals (assuming you're eating too much like I was).
Whenever you find yourself wanting something to eat, drink water. It doesn't matter how you feel. Refuse to be controlled by hunger. Just drink water and eat food for nourishment when you feel it's necessary. (as a note: make sure you're still eating enough, obviously. But don't eat more than enough.)
Get into some small amount of exercise, but nothing super extreme. The exercise is a good way to keep your body healthy and a really nice way to see your progress (that first pull-up is really satisfying).
For about one year, eat NO sweets. Not a single one. There are certain foods that are unquestionably unhealthy/unnecessary (cake, cookies, etc). When you want some, drink water. You can even imagine eating it as you're drinking the water if you want. But nothing more than water. One thing that helped me is the realization that the taste of that cookie only lasts for a little while, but your health will last for the rest of your life. After the cookie is gone, it's gone; it becomes just another memory (of which you most certainly have plenty). Try to think long term.
Generally, I'm just suggesting a lifestyle change. Even if you're eating a little healthier than before, you'll get healthier and lose weight. You don't need to go run a mile every day to get healthier. A little bit every day will add up, and eventually, you'll be feeling and looking healthier. Think about whatever there is that will keep you motivated (the ladies, kids, wife, yourself).
Good luck!!!
Crunches are pretty much useless and will make your back hurt easily. Same with supine leg lifts. If you want a six pack, do hanging leg raises to build up those muscles and control your diet to get rid of the fat covering them up. Even if you don't end up going to the gym, get one of these and do the HLR's on it. It will let you add pull-ups to your at-home regimen, too.
HALF PRICE!
Ah, I have a doorway-hung pull-up bar, this one, to be precise. It's too low for me to attach the rings to and not touch the ground.
I would imagine it would increase grip strength, just as it does for other pulling/lifting exercises. I want to increase my grip strength, but haven't really been in the bodyweight fitness community long enough to have experience with equipment specifically designed to do that.
A few years ago, I crafted a couple back boards (+ simple mounting hardware) that quickly attach to and detach from this type of Iron Gym with ease. I no longer use the first back board (the second one is just a larger WxH/thicker/more meticulously planned version of the first). The back board has T-nuts in a grid pattern and honestly works really well with just climbing holds instead of a commercial hang board, but you could screw a hang board into the back board if you desire.
I no longer use the first board, so I'm looking to pass it along to someone who might breathe new life into it. It's gratis aside from shipping, unless someone feels generous. I sent you a PM with some information about it in case you would like to use it.
These kinds of pull up systems work really well with minimal risk of falling.
Of course having your own backyard is a blessing that should be utilized to its fullest ;)

First thing that comes to mind is getting a pull up bar (especially one like the this one with multiple grips): http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Total-Upper-Body-Workout/dp/B001ND04U4
Between chin ups and multiple arm position pullups (and dips using a chair), you'll hit the majority of your upper body. You can even use your back pack to increase the weight.
Also, have you checked out the side bar at /r/bodyweightfitness ?
You can also get a resistance band set that would allow you to workout your chest standing up. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Bodylastics-Resistance-components-membership-LIVEEXERCISE/dp/B006O09M4K (very versatile and affordable).
I actually own both of those so feel free to ask me about them.

These bad boys have a pocket in the front on the inside of the shorts. Toss in an iPod shuffle (the little bitty ones) and it's like nothing is there!
>In my case, these
You should totally try these. They've got a 2" inseam and are about half the price($11). I have two pairs and give them a big would recommend.
While a bit pricier($34), you can also get them in American Flag Print, Texas Flag Print or Camo Print.
Just ran in these for the first time, 4 miles.

Loved them. Went commando, also for the first time, and it was phenomenal. Highly recommended. We'll see if I have chafing problems on longer runs though...
These are the best. Bar none.

In my experience those armbands are really uncomfortable.. Probably the best option still if you're using wired headphones, though. If you're using bluetooth, I'd really recommend a Spibelt instead.
Fanny pack.
I have this one, it's extremely low profile, you can barely see it under my tank. SUPER stretchy, fits my phone easily. When I forget to bring it to the gym I basically lose my mind. It's a game changer.
I highly recommend a runners belt. I've used Spibelt and the Nathan 5k and have been happy with both.
Music. Sometimes being able to blast my own music is the only thing keeping me going at the gym. I too have stuck my phone in my bra for this very reason. Then I got one of these because like you said, that was gross. Also, I can't stand arm bands. They just feel weird.
You need one of these:
SPI Belt
Made for runners, but works for concerts and traveling too!
You do have to take your phone and watch with you to use any run tracking Pebble apps. Pebble does not have GPS or cadence tracking built-in.
Watchfaces and apps can track just steps via the Pebble's own accelerometer without the help of a smartphone but not distance, pace, location, or cadence without being tied to a phone.
As for the weight of carrying a smartphone on a run, I suggest getting a SPI belt for your smartphone:
SPIbelt (Small Personal Item) belt - Black with Black Zipper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004QQTDA2/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_g6hQub1R1CNXC
(Not a referral link)
A lot of people in /r/running recommend the [SPI Belt] (http://www.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Small-Personal-Item-belt/dp/B004QQTDA2).
You run in jeans?! Damn, I don't get that, but to your question, both the FlipBelt and Spibelt are very popular. I've had the SPIbelt for... 3 months now, and it's held up pretty well. The elastic band has stretched just a bit, but it controls bouncing very well and will fit more than just your phone if you want to bring gels or cards/cash with you.
Does it need to be an arm band?
I use this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004QQTDA2?pc_redir=1406967393&robot_redir=1
Its lightweight, compact, expands large enough to fit my phone, wallet and keys easily. With just my iphone on normal runs it doesn't even bounce around. Doesn't even feel like its there. Very happy with it.
Fat Gripz. They will destroy your forearms, so simple yet so effective.
Makes the bar diameter bigger and so much harder to grip.
I got you buddy.
https://www.amazon.ca/Fat-Gripz-Ultimate-Builder-Blue/dp/B005FIS14Y
$40
I recall getting 2 pairs for $40 on a sale from the main site.
http://www.fatgripz.ca/
Have had them for years. 10/10
Fits on almost everything I could need it for.
Cannot think of a con.
Except maybe realizing how much of a little bitch I am with the grips on.
Cheers.
static holds (or anything else) with fat gripz.
http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-The-Ultimate-Builder/dp/B005FIS14Y
I would say some Fat Gripz, they are $40 on Amazon and if you have Prime you get free shipping. They are a good start for most people, pretty much you put them on dumbbells and the added thickness to hand handles make them much harder to hold when your working out, they are also small and light and easy to take with you if you go to a gym.
You can try out these. Just Incorporate them into your regular lifting routine and they'll boost your grip strength pretty fast, or you can do forearm isolation work. There are a lot of grip strength articles on bodybuilding.com
Get a pair of Fat Gripz. I used to have the same problem as you but I got a pair and started doing farmers walks and wrist curls with them, I've noticed a definite size gain with them.
Check this out: Fat Gripz - The Ultimate Arm Builder, Blue Fat Gripz
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FIS14Y/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_NGKdzbFDVCC5S
Yeah definitely. Fitting in some grip work here and there wouldn't hurt!
One way to add some grip with lifts is to add Fat Gripz to your bar lifts. Those are killer... If you do pull-ups, try throwing a couple towels over the bar and do pull-ups on them. Also check out /r/GripTraining for some tools you can use in the car, at work, watching TV, etc.
Thanks, that's what I thought. Had a similar issue at my old gym that I fixed using these (https://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-Ultimate-Builder-Blue/dp/B005FIS14Y/ref=sr_1_3?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1504291748&sr=1-3&keywords=fat+gripz)
in addition to all the things DerfuhrersStache recommends you can add a pair of these to help build your grip strength as well. Anytime you increase the diameter of what you're holding you're going to have work harder to hang onto it. Also wrapping a towel around the handle will suffice if you don't want to drop the cash on those grips.
That weight bench: "It has a 250-pound maximum user weight and a maximum combined user weight and lift load of 430 pounds." I don't know what you weigh, but I'd be pushing up against that limit really fast. Heaven forbid you want to do some very heavy partial reps.
But right now, you're limited to 300lbs by the bar, which is just to low. I would buy less, but buy better (to keep money the same)
Buy the bar new, and get something that can take up to 1000lbs. You won't need it, probably ever, but it will last and last, and you can sell it when you're done.
Buy the weights off of Craigslist. You can usually find them for $0.5/lb. YOu can also optimize, buying more 5s and 45s, fewer 35s.
If money is really tight, consider getting squat stands (like the BD-9). You can bench just fine, as long as you are sensible. Also they are stowable, unlike the powercage.
Head on over to /r/homegym for some more ideas.
I bought these squat stands and I love them.
I bought these Valor squat racks:
http://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-9-Power-Squat/dp/B006CW02ZS/
But I'm also use it for benching. The room I have it in is way too small for a 7' bar. I think 5' is the longest that could fit in there without putting holes in the walls.
I have the Valor Fitness BD-9 since I’m very tight on space and constantly need to move it around. While I recommend it, I am looking forward to upgrading to a full cage when I have the space
I have these squat stands: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006CW02ZS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I paid $150 for them, apparently they went up in price since then.
These stands have some pros and cons.
Pros:
Cons:
I also have a bench that I bought years ago (I used to work out with dumbbells until I got the barbell and stands 6 months ago).
is there any way you can spend 180 to get squat stands? If so there are some great squat stands on sale for 180 that can hold a lot of weight. and it takes up no room. the one i have has a safety catch too.
mysquatstand
now if youre squatting heavier than 550 or benching more than 300 or close to those numbers, this isn't for you, otherwise its really great.

Exeurpedic,
http://www.amazon.com/Exerpeutic-Folding-Magnetic-Upright-Pulse/dp/B007595TKU/
Sturdy as hell, very easy to assemble, very easy to use. The two problems I have with it: the non-standard saddle mount, and the seat post angle is fixed (it feels like a cruiser, I would like it a bit more steep). It folds to use about half as much floor space as in its working configuration, it has two casters that can be used to drag it around, they are not in contact with the floor when the bike is setup for use. It is light enough that we can fold it and carry it around the house to wherever we want to work out, so for example I'll do my workouts at my home office, my wife will do them in front of her TV and my son will do them in the living room.
Strange feature: instead of a water bottle cage it has a plastic pocket sized perfectly for a smart phone or maybe an MP3 player.
I just bought this bike off Amazon and I really like it so far. Seems solid and works well!
Exerpeutic Folding Magnetic Upright Bike with Pulse https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007595TKU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_whQIEGVgbgszp
Stationary Bike
I have an elliptical that I got through my friend's amazon prime account for $100.00 not including taxes and honestly I'm very happy with it. It doesn't require a plug in or battery and you can adjust the resistance which is controlled by a belt/fan inside as you peddle. It's quiet as well, easy to move, and doesn't require much space.

I basically follow this timer.

Sometimes I mix it up and just go fast and slow on my own whim.
and I use this bike in my basement. For $130 dollars, can't go wrong.
Sure!
It's a company called Exerpeutic. I found it on Wal-Mart's website. It has a digital timer/calorie counter included and it's magnetic so it doesn't make a sound. Given the price I was worried it would be a piece of crap, since most of the other bikes I saw with these features were considerably more expensive, but it has been great.
Edit: Oh, I found it! A bit more expensive than when I bought it, but still reasonable. This is the exact one I got.

No problem. Here is the bike I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007595TKU/
It's actually $130. It's foldable and was super easy to put together.
I know how you feel. I have felt this way too many times to count.
You are living in a constant cycle of negatives thoughts and negative behaviors.
What has helped me and helped kick off me finally losing weight was "faking it until you make it"
I hated my appearance, I would cry when I would look at pictures of myself, I disgusted myself. Then one day I looked in the mirror and said "Fuck it, I am beautiful at this weight and any weight I choose to be!" I dressed better, I wore makeup cut all my hair off (you don't have to be that extreme :) I liked what I saw in the mirror. I decided to love me for me.
This is the only body I got so I should accept it for what it is and what it does for me.
Then I decided to log my food just out of curiosity (LoseIt app). Saw I was eating waaaaay more of the bad stuff than I thought. Started eating more veggies and using a foldable bike to get under my budget.
I lost some lbs. I got happy and I noticed the cute clothes I had were fitting even nicer.
Then a friend of mine who also had weight issues told me about C25K. I always thought I had bad knees (my knee has dislocated twice in my youth while doing mundane things) so I was hesitant...but I decide to just give it a shot, if I fail I fail but at least I tried. My buddy had issues with asthma so we always would make it to week 4 of the program and just stay there. I finally took it upon myself to keep going...with or without her. I complete C25K. I can not run for 6 miles!
So the point I am trying to make is that I accomplished what I never thought I would by just changing my negative attitude to a positive one. I know it is easier said than done.
But if you "fake it until you make it" pretend you are an athlete, pretend you are the most sought after fashion model in the industry! You eventually with feel this to be true and those feelings and thoughts become reality.
You work around small children. The things you say to yourself, would you ever say those things to any of the children in your care? Someone once said this to me. I would never tell a child they are hideous...why should I say that to myself?
PM me if you ever want to talk.
It's going to be pretty general unless I know what kind of instrument you play. However, I find that the gripmasters help a lot with individual finger strength. An exercise i would do for this would be 30 reps, then hold for 30 seconds, repeat.
If you want overall hand strength, false grip farmer walks, or anything false grip really.
If your finger strength is holding you back, I've found grip trainers like this to be helpful, especially since you can use them during non-guitar time. https://www.amazon.com/GRIP-MASTER-Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
Get one of these, it really helps after a couple months of use
You might be able to find one of these types of things that allows you to grip it like you do a can. The higher tension ones certainly would be enough to train with.
> I'd like some kind of spring loaded pinky finger exerciser so I can fire my Limitless with my pinky
Check out the Gripmaster. It comes with a myriad of exercises, one of which is bound to be for the pinky.
http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG one of these things. I love mine and have managed to not lose it over about 4 years!
I have one of these To keep my strength up and keep me occupied.
I recommend the purchase of a gripmaster
These work wonders http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0085MX3SG/ref=s9_top_hm_awbw_by8fl_g200_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-11&pf_rd_r=1QMEXTH62X5MFX517H54&pf_rd_t=30901&pf_rd_p=0b1d4446-e0f7-5cd4-b75e-ad8848112f97&pf_rd_i=14333021
Also, playing more is the ultimate solution. You could also try lighter gage strings at first, that tends to help as well.
In addition to the other suggestions, consider one of these:

finger strength?
I finally got fed up with going to my overcrowded gym that only had one squat rack and decided to join the home gym club. This room was previously a home theatre room but we weren’t watching much TV in there anyways. I figured a home gym would be a better use of the room and our time. I had considered a garage gym but didn’t want to lose our covered parking spots or deal with extreme temperatures. The room was completely open on one side so the first thing I did was build sliding barn doors to cover it up and keep the kids out. This was my first ever woodworking project so I’m pretty proud of myself! I laid down the stall mats directly over the existing carpet. They felt a little springy when I first put them down but two weeks later, they now feel much firmer. I taped them together with gorilla tape but it isn’t staying down quite as well as I’d hoped (if anyone has any other suggestions for keeping stall mats in place, please let me know). All in all, am loving my decision. I spent a little over $2K but that will pay for itself in about 4 years now that I have cancelled the gym membership. I plan on working out much longer than that anyways!
Rep Fitness Home Gym Package Comes with rack, bench, barbell, bumper plates, dip bars and rings. This thing is solid and doesn’t take up a lot of space. I also got the adjustable bench upgrade and extra bumper plates. Bumper plates: 8x45, 2x25, 2x10. Change plates 2x 5, 2x 2.5. I had them swap out the 35 lb plates that came with the package for 45s. Total olympic weight: 445 lbs (490 lbs with 45 lb barbell) Total price $1450
200 lb adjustable dumbbell set. $173
15 lb aluminum training barbell (for my wife) $119
Rowing Machine (Goes for $300, purchased for $150 on Craigslist)
5 horse stall mats from Tractor Supply Company, $200
The resistance bands set is from Bodylastics and was purchased years ago for around $50 I think.
For the barn doors, I bought a track kit for $135 on Amazon and the lumber, screws and stain was around $150.
What that is missing is any pulling motion. Shoulders stay much healthier if you also have pulling motions in your exercises. Here's one other program suggestion:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?p=1266579671#post1266579671
You definitely can get bigger with dumbbells. Technically the first thing you'll max out on is legs (dumbells only go up so high), but most people are looking to look good and don't care past a certain point anyways.
Make sure to get some sort of adjustable dumbbells, fixed weight dumbbells are not the best option. Here's one of the cheapest suggestions (though they flake paint):
https://www.amazon.com/One-Pair-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Kits/dp/B0087T8UOE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1467668862&sr=8-6&keywords=adjustable+dumbell

maybe these?
I'm talking about something like these.
I can't comment on whether these are the best (or best value) out of the various options available, so do your research if this is the way you decide to go.
My friend got 2 dumbells that adjust from 5 to 100 lbs each on Amazon for under $200. They come with a total of 200lbs of weight.
I'd highly recommend not buying individual weights if you can and save up to buy an adjustable set. Otherwise you'll end up with a lot of weights you rarely touch with a few you use often.
As you get stronger, you'll continually have to buy heavier dumbbells to progress. In my case, I'd need a new 5lbs heavier dumbbell every month or two based on my current progression. I go to a gym though so it's not a problem. (when I bought my only dumbbell, it cost me roughly $1 per lb at Walmart) This is especially true if you're following a primarily dumbbell routine.
EDIT:
I found the set my friend uses:
https://amazon.com/One-Pair-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Kits/dp/B0087T8UOE
If you don't already have one, I'd recommend getting an adjustable weightlifting bench to give you access to dumbbell chest pressing, incline dumbbell rows, lying dumbbell incline kickbacks, etc.... I've seen good ones go for around $100-$150.
I looked at those, too, but ended up buying these because I just couldn't justify the cost, esp since I would have had to buy additional plates.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0087T8UOE/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'd be comfortable using them for snatches but you'd probably have to retighten them/check tightness after a few reps.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0087T8UOE/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1479939715&sr=1-3&refinements=p_4%3AUnipack&pi=SX200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41aGZXZDUOL&ref=plSrch
I've had these for about 2 years now, not very pretty and the paint is chipping off the edges but they're cheap and they get the job done.
if you can't get to a gym or anywhere else..
It's a bit expensive, but I bought this to use since it can be taken apart and set up quickly for dips and rows.
Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ICHPIK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wERExbGX4FEKH
I've returned a few pull up bars and this one worked out the best for me (doesn't damage my doors).
Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008DNAJYI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_DFRExbJYJ0GZQ
I don't know specifically why yours wont fit, but I had the same issue with my old pull-up bar, did some research, and found out that this one (http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Fitness-31010-Multi-Gym/dp/B008DNAJYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374772975&sr=8-1&keywords=perfect+multigym) is adjustable to accommodate higher and deeper door frames. Best of luck!
I do not want to devalue dumbbells, however, if you are interested in bodyweight fitness, I would suggest investing in a solid doorway pull-up bar and trying out our beginner routine located in the FAQ.
EDIT: This is mine and it has served me faithfully for the past 5 months at a decent price link
I've got one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008DNAJYI/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?qid=1421033162&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
No problems yet, and I've had it for over a year.
I bought these back in January and have been very happy with them. They're an upfront investment, but when you consider that weights are generally $1/pound, they're fairly cost effective.
Yes4All Adjustable Dumbbells - 105 lb Dumbbell Weights (Pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GC76NW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_a2ioDbQDSXK8W
Various weights of dumbbells are usually pretty expensive. If you are a beginner, I would suggest either a gym membership (rather than a $500 set of 5-50lb dumbbells) or an adjustable dumbbell set
The Dead Wedge - Deadlift Jack Alternative for Your Gym Bag - Raises loaded barbell & plates for effortless Loading/Unloading. Perfect for Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Crossfit, Home Gym & Deadlifts. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TVVBD6O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eyYGAbGS72DMQ
I use a trap bar. You can easily use bands with that, in addition to plates. A couple Dead Wedges are always good to have. Cheap.
https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Wedge-Alternative-Powerlifting-Weightlifting/dp/B00TVVBD6O?
Not shorts, but I highly recommend this for valuables/keys. Used it to hold two wallets, a small medical device, and phone at EDC and was not disappointed.
For a fanny pack I would HIGHLY recommend This one. It is a runners pack so it doesn't bounce around (been there too), and it keeps your belongings close. I keep my phone in one side and my cash, ID, card in the other side. It also works as a great belt!
I wear mine on this belt I got on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019BQNTL0/
I'm going through this same problem right now. It's my 6th marathon, but I'm coming back after injury and I've done a bunch of training so stuff doesn't fit the same. I've outgrown my shorts with big pockets, and the little race vest I used to wear now chafes like a bitch by mile 6. Sadly this didn't occur to me until my last long run, meaning I'll be wearing my full long run hydration vest and feeling silly. If I had another long run to test it out I'd try a belt like this. Because really all I need is a way to carry half a dozen gels and a phone. I've never felt like the hydration stations weren't enough, though I haven't run a marathon with more than a thousand runners, or in very hot weather. In either of those cases I'd probably care water so I wouldn't have to deal with crowds at aid stations.
I'm gonna buy one of these: Running Belt USA Patented – iPhone X 6 7 8 Plus Pouch for Runners . Best Fitness Gear for Hands-Free Workout . Freerunning Reflective Waist Pack Phone Holder . Men, Women, Kids Running Accessories https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019BQNTL0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mn8OCbQT31MRV
I like Sport2People Running Belt (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B019BQNTL0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I can put my iPhone 6 Plus in the larger pocket and then my key fob in the smaller one. And it does a good job of keeping sweat away from the phone.
Has anyone experienced soreness from a running belt? I wear mine on my hips because when it's around my waist it rides up (maybe I just need to experiment more with tightness). Last night after my run I noticed that I felt bruised all along where my belt was in the front. I'm not sure if it's the belt itself or just the positioning of my phone and keys in it. Was just wondering if anyone had similar experiences.
This is the belt I am using.
I just use my android phone and fire up google fit. Used to keep it in my pocket, but recently started wearing this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019BQNTL0/ with the pocket in front for maximum phone protection. No pulse/blood pressure monitor, but hey, I can tell how much I'm sweating just fine.
I got mine from Amazon. It's kinda like this. I use it for leg workouts too
I love them. And very easy to start with light resistance and work your way up. I'll probably bring them with me to the beach at the end of the month and our winter vacation.
Hope the link works, I'm on mobile.
Best Resistance Loop Bands - Exercise Bands Set of 5 - Physical Therapy Bands - For Strength Training, Stretching and Home Fitness - Instructional Booklet , eBook and Online Videos https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_k-a2xbF4K7569
have you tried a recumbent bike? or what about one of those "pedal bike" sets that's basically pedals on a frame that you can set in front of a chair?
The latter is something that you could set however you find comfortable, or could use as a "handbike" alternatively - meaning you could hold the pedals with your hands with the thing sitting on a table and "pedal" it with your upper body.
What about therabands? you can purchase those online as well, and loop around a doorknob, pillar, etc for a tie point, or make a loop and do various exercises where you need a loop of elastic for resistance.
You can also use soup cans, a small bag of rice, and things like that for light weights to do exercises with. You'll of course want to make sure you medically can do so, but there are a lot of decent youtube videos done by physical therapists with exercises for different issues like sciatica etc, for various stretches etc. make sure a doctor says you can do these, or you've been through therapy and know that you can do them, you can hurt yourself without being sure you are physically okay do do the exercises
you can try /r/loseit for weight loss ideas... but the only thing I can say is that calories input have to drop for weight loss to work. I've kept 40lbs off... but it's a fight. I backslide a few pounds from time to time... but fight to get rid of them again....I try to aim for 1500 calories a day... and I'm realistic....I'm not going to be able to completely avoid junk food, so I don't... I aim to be honest with myself that I want it, and just count it towards that limit... and to not give up trying to limit the junk to small amounts!
If you want someone to just chat with for encouragement, you're welcome to message me. I'm still fighting with the scale too!
Here, you’re going to need these. Don’t want you to hurt yourself with that big of a stretch.
I bought this set from Amazon, and I am very happy with them.
Fit Simplify Resistance Loop
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_kF9HHMn9jcMuy
Squats for sure. There are tons of variations. I highly recommend picking up a set of resistance bands. They are super cheap:
https://www.amazon.com/Fit-Simplify-Resistance-Exercise-Instructional/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=sr_1_3?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1497297185&sr=1-3&keywords=resistance+bands
With these you can do a ton of different workouts at home.
Lunges will work as well but will incorporate more glute work. Not a bad thing but not exactly what you asked for.
These are what I use for my prehab on the days I press. Pretty cost efficient if you aren't happy with yours.
Fit Simplify Resistance Loop Exercise 5 Bands with Instructional Booklet ,Carry Bag, eBook and Online Videos https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_txPybzSkFUvYE
Any advice for resistance bands off Amazon? Like these
Do they have them at your gym so you can try them out? I would just get the bands that are like strips of rubber.
https://www.amazon.com/Fit-Simplify-Resistance-Exercise-Instructional/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=lp_14492408011_1_1?srs=14492408011&ie=UTF8&qid=1502066454&sr=8-1
You don't need handles for shoulder warm ups. And this way you can stack them, use two at a time for more resistance.
Bosu -- you can get them inexpensively at stores like Academy. I have the "mini" size one. I use it for several things: (1) using interval timer, stand on one foot on the bosu for 3 1-minute sets for each leg, (2) when you get good at that, do one-leg squats on the bosu, (3) flip it over (flat side up) and do normal squats while holding extra weight as needed. You'll find that you'll wiggle all over the place, and maybe fall off sometimes, until you get good. Just standing one-legged on the bosu will strengthen your foot, ankle, calves, knees, and hip, and especially in all the little micro-adjustment places that you need for stability.
You can do the same thing with a sissel.
Rubber bands: put band around your ankles and do side-shuffles and walk forward/backwards (move like a speed skater). Put them around your knees and do clamshells. Anchor a band in a door, stand on one foot, holding the free end of the band at arm's length and rotate your upper body against the tension of the band. Think wood chop exercise but standing on one foot so you put some beneficial torque on the knee and test its stability.
Movement exercises: sit on the floor (I have smooth wood floors) like you're in open guard, stretch your feet out in front of you, anchor your heels, and pull yourself forward; think like a butt-scoot, but using nothing but your glutes, hams, and calves. A bunch of normal calisthenics that work the leg chain (leg lifts, scissors, crazy legs, etc.). Lots of normal BJJ warmups are probably really good stability workouts.
Stretching: every leg stretch you can find. I found this book from the flexibility subreddit, and it's been amazing.
I'm really not sure where to find this stuff all put together, it's what I learned from my PT guys. I do this stuff about three times a week. Bosu every time, the other exercises I kind of mix in so I get to all of them once or twice a week.
Protection: I do wear knee braces, with the little silicone donuts in them. It helps a lot with impacts. Also keeps you thinking about knees and being careful and healthy.
I bought this set for <$10 off amazon but only use the black one, since it's the highest resistance one. I'm a hairy legged dude, so I now trim my legs to prevent the band from messing with my hair. The bands don't rub my skin too terribly so it works out.
And I only do side leg raises (standing or laying down, doesn't matter too much), clam shells, and monster walks forward and backward. There's more exercises, but these were all I did and they worked out for me.
Ehh. It's slow going. I took a couple of months rest and did PT, then got tied up with work and let myself get out of shape. Started again a few weeks ago and am still building back up with walk/jog sessions and some cross training (stationary bike, incline walking on the treadmill, elliptical)... but on my last walk/jog session, the IT band started getting angry again and I had to cut it short. GRR. Will continue to get back on the rehab train, though.
I just ordered these bands for NEXT LEVEL CLAMSHELLS. WOOO! :)
I was talking about the dumbbells, but bowflex products are not that good overall IMO.
For benches, the important thing is to check the total weight capacity they have. A lot of benches you’ll see only have 300-600lb total capacity (your weight + dumbbells/etc) and that is very limiting especially if you decide you want to do powerlifting in the future.
I built myself a powerlifting homegym so I have a Repfitness bench which incredibly sturdy at 1000lb capacity rating and $219.
If that is too pricey, I would recommend something like Fitness Reality with an 800lb total capacity at $99 prime. The guy who owns that is a redditor who posts at /r/homegym I recommend going there to ask as well.
Adjustable Dumbells, get the elites as they expand if you need more than 50lbs.

Cardio Equipment of your choice/budget. I would pick a rowing machine, since it's perfect for HIIT.

Hi. Thanks for the effort of sending a picture. BUT I'm sad to say that is a FITNESS GEAR bench. The bench I worked on is under the FITNESS REALITY Brand, which is not the same company as the FITNESS GEAR bench.
I can see what you going for with your modification. That back rest on the FITNESS GEAR bench is tapered, and you wanted the wider part for your shoulders. That pictures does give me and idea for making a bench accommodate the needs of different users for a new bench I am working on.
For your reference, this is the bench I thought you had: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01CR4XFIK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483859569&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=fitness+reality+bench&dpPl=1&dpID=41vzSDbCOxL&ref=plSrch
Fitness Reality adjustable for ~$60. Been using it for ~9 months, completely solid with me (~185) and 225 on it. Seat adjusts to two positions with a pin, so not quickly. Back quick adjusts.
According to camelcamelcamel's price tracker, that's what the original price was. This product has only been out for several days though. I would wait until the price lowers. The Ironman bench seems to be a more expensive dupe of Fitness Reality's bench (Thanks, /u/zo1d).
> What are you doing for the home gym? I pulled together 300lbs set, power rack and bench for around $650. Works great and doesn’t take up that much space.
Found this rack on Amazon with good reviews that includes both high and low pulley systems: $449
300lb weight set and bar at Dick's with instore pickup (save on shipping): $200
Basic bench from Amazon: $89
Total: ~$750
I'll likely add some sturdy J-hooks and dip bars, a horse stall mat and build a deadlift platform. All in it will be around $1000, which isn't bad.
I could likely do it cheaper off craigslist or used, but it won't have everything that I think I need - specifically the low row.
>“The real me isn’t afraid anymore of who I am and from what I see… that is really fucking attractive.”

Yes, it's awfully great and comfortable with exactly who you are and kill Mr. Nice Guy.

Ok thanks. Not sure if you remember which listing but do you know if it was this one or this one?

There are other little gadgets for fingers and wrists in the related items too
Get one of these
You look like a chode while doing it, but when you pull off a flawless YYZ, you'll be drowning in bitches.
I'd recommend this pair. My home gym has it and it's great. Each DB goes from 5-100 lbs and the whole thing is $200. The paint chips but besides that it works great.
That is a good alternative. Also, there is other options that go heavier.
And you can eventually buy heavier plates, I suppose.
The problem is you didn't mention what your fitness goal is.
If you want to be very strong, a power cage is the only way to go. Then a bench, an olympic bar, and weights.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If you want to get strong but aren't real serious about it, you could probably get by with doing dumbbell-only stuff. Like here's a routine:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?p=1266579671#post1266579671
If your workout area doesn't need to stay clean, these from amazon are the cheapest (they'll flake paint a lot) for $180:
http://www.amazon.com/One-Pair-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Kits/dp/B0087T8UOE/ref=sr_1_4?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1452290208&sr=1-4&keywords=adjustable+dumbbells
I think you'll also need a bench (for the bench press) and a pullup bar.
Another similar option is BodyBeast - an exercise video using dumbbells and a bench.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If you just want to be in good cardio shape and do exercise videos, you might just want a tv and a mat on the floor.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If your goal is just weightloss, you might just want a treadmill - and a phone stand or a tv. There's a story going around from a guy who claimed to lose 100lbs by just walking on a treadmill (with an incline) for 1 hour every day for a year, without changing his diet. (It burns less calories than other methods, but doesn't increase your appetite like other methods do, at least that's the theory.)
It kinda just depends on what you want to do.
Oops, I forgot to list the brand. Here they are on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/One-Pair-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Kits/dp/B0087T8UOE/
They seem to be a no-name generic brand. Or, at least, I can't tell the brand.
Personally I'd opt for something like this. Takes up way less space and is significantly cheaper.
can anyone help me figure out how I can get this shipped to mumbai?
https://www.amazon.com/One-Pair-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Kits/dp/B0087T8UOE
that price seems reasonable but it doesnt ship to india
you just rest the plate on your leg, the clamp or bar does not need to touch your leg.
But i have these and these
I over estimated most of the prices, but these are things I figured I would need in a home gym if I ever build one. If you take out a few, you can make it fit your budget.

Want a ton of weight but on the cheap? I bought these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087T8UOE/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The reviews say the black paint flakes off, and it does, but after a couple weeks it stopped flaking. They're still painted black, must be only the top layer of paint that flakes. These can also be annoying to change weight, but you get what you pay for.
Edit: these were $190 when I bought them, they might drop in price again.
I have this one as my door frame is a bit thicker than the average one and it work fine. It's got different notches to attached it so you can change the depth and height of it.
It says up to 33" wide and 6" deep.
The Iron Gym is decent and you can find it anywhere.
But after owning several pull up bars, I have to say the Perfect Multi-Gym is the best I've owned. It's more adjustable (I have very small door frames in this apartment, it's the only one that fits) and it's cushioned on all contact points. It hasn't left a scratch on my door frame or the wall above it.
If you live in a house/apt with doors, you have a place to do them:
$27
Picture of mine
Been using this one for over a year, hasn't made a dent/any noticeable marks in the door frame, granted I only weight ~146lbs It's pricey on Amazon, but you might still be able to buy it at Walmart for less.
Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B008DNAJYI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_IcLwCbX5QQA5S
Oh I see, the problem is the vertical distance from where the door hits the frame to the top border where the bar is supposed to rest right?
What about [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Fitness-Multi-Gym-Portable-Original/dp/B008DNAJYI)?
I've been using the Perfect Multi-Gym for about two years and its served me just fine. I like it because you can actually get a wide grip on it. Its held up surprisingly well considering I weighed 200lb when I first bought it.
If anyone is reading this thread and DOES want to order from Amazon, I recommend the non-Pro version of the Perfect Fitness pull up bar.
http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Fitness-31010-Multi-Gym/dp/B008DNAJYI
It's only $3 more than the Iron Gym bar, broadens the pressure against the door frame, and has multiple adjustment options for the various sizes of door frames people might have.
I am willing to buy a pullup bar in order to be able to do pullups even if it's raining outside (pullups everyday, YAY!), so I looked online. I found out pretty nice rewievs on this one http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Fitness-31010-Multi-Gym/dp/B008DNAJYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425320007&sr=8-1&keywords=perfect+fitness+multi+gym, any opinion about it?
I want to know if my doors are ok to use it. I mesured my door and the doorframe is 1cm deep (the upper part that should have the top of the bar positioned on it), I've seen rewiev for the bar working even with 0,5-0,6 cm so I think that's ok.
The door is 7,1ft in height and is 2,11ft large. I am 5,9ft, will it work good for me?
For a (total) $200 pound set, I'd say https://www.amazon.com/105-Adjustable-Cast-Iron-Dumbbells/dp/B009GC76NW/ref=sr_1_4?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1469722765&sr=1-4&keywords=adjustable+dumbbells is as inexpensive as you're going to get (I just got them). I hate playing the Craigslist game - I'm not going to spend 45 minutes and $15 in gas to potentially save $25.
If you don't want to take up so much space, I recommend adjustable dumb bells.

Try to get the carbs down to 20 grams a day. I'd say scrap the jogging and just buy a couple of weights. Here are some good ones. Now just use those in every way possible for the same duration as your jog. Don't take breaks either. I guarantee it will help.

Can be a little time consuming changing weights, but good value for the money
If you're just looking for DB's I would go with something like this. They're adjustable and actually a pretty fair price for a set. They are 105 lbs total, so they go up to 52.5 lbs each. I would also get a barbell so you can do some compound stuff as well.
DB's
Barbell
I just went through this same dilema between getting something cheap, and what I really wanted. I ended up with the 105 lb set of these. (That's 52.5 lbs in each hand and it comes with two handles obviously).
I like them so far. It's a little annoying to change weights in the middle of a workout, but it sets a consistent rest time in between exercises at least (which may or may not be a good thing depending on who you are, but I like how it paces me).
They were cheap, work just as well as any other ones I've used. So for $100 shipped, why not.
The most versatile equipment you can probably get would be a good dumbbell set.
Solid handle, and a large amount of weights

Nah I wouldn't spend that much, something like this will do you just fine:

I'm looking into getting some heavier weights for my home gym. I have relatively little room and am cheap. Lately I've been doing pretty basic lifts and just trying to get stronger, while not negatively impacting my running, which is what I really care about. I have two 15 lb dumbbells and one random 25 lb plate, which are obviously really light. I'm hoping for some advice on what to get next.
I'm tempted to get some adjustable dumbbells, but I really like renegade rows and I'm not sure if adjustable dumbbells with plates would hold up. Buying just a couple hex dumbbells seems silly, since I'd probably just out grow them fairly quickly. Other options I've been thinking of are kettlebells or a sandbag filled something that isn't sand because I don't want sand in my house.
I can't fit a barbell or a rack in and I'm not willing to get something like the ironmaster dumbbells, which are outside my budget. Any ideas on what I should pick up?
I have one of these in my gym bag, best tenner I ever spent...

Oh I thought you meant like hitting 3 plates for a rep. Like the other guy said, I bet you can do it right now. That first rep is the bitch.
Edit also: get one of these, makes that unload soooo ez

Have you considered something like this?
Sport2People Running Pouch Belt
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019BQNTL0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_f7yhzbE0BMT3P
Might be a bit more practical.
A slim profile runner's belt similar to this one
I just looked them up and they look extremely similar to what I'm using already
Oh, I have been there! When I started running I kept the phone in my pocket when walking and at hand when running. Then I got a running belt, this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019BQNTL0/ I love it but I also heard Flipbelt is highly regarded.
I used to run with Bluetooth running headphones to hear C25K/MapMyRun alerts plus music put I couldn’t really adapt well, I had to adjust all the time while running. Nowadays I use a Garmin watch (HR+ then replaced with a vivoactive 3) and put my phone in the belt. Hope that helps!
I got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019BQNTL0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and love it. Far prefer it over an armband. Fits my keys, phone, and ipod and don't even notice it's there.
Try using resistance bands and stretching to strengthen your knee and hip. Doing static holds or maybe different lower body bodyweight exercises might help too.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YVIqDbETPWE2S
I have these bands that I really like. I use them outside of BB but I also use them to do a lateral band walk instead of the x-walk. I use them for stretching, for making regular unweighted squats more challenging, etc. I tend to collapse my knees in so having the extra resistence prompts me to push against the resistence instead of collapsing in.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AVDVHTI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also use gloves often, but mine don't come above my wrist. I jsut prefer them because my hands get slippery or hurt from the barbels someties.
I also run but I personally don't carry a water bottle, but I know a lot of people use camelback backpacks! If you serach water backpack on amazon, you can see some similar things that are much cheaper. And I'm sure you could fit your keys in there too. For my keys, I have my house key on one of these, so I can easily remove it and just stick that in my shorts pocket. https://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Line-Keychain-Nickel-Plated-70701/dp/B00HZ0BOR6/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_263_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9SJM677CZMTJ2J862REA
How about pillow under her hips in the prone bone position…wand on the bed between her legs with you on top?
You could put one of those elastic exercise bands around the head of the wand and she can lie on it to keep it snug against her pussy.
Your whole body is a weight.
Squats and leg kick backs can be done with no additional weights, but you can also get a cheap set of resistance bands if you do want something extra. Something like this can help https://www.amazon.com/Fit-Simplify-Resistance-Exercise-Instruction/dp/B01AVDVHTI/
Both my gym and my physical therapy place use these! I use the blue one for hip thrusts and glute activations. I have these at home but they don't seem to have as much resistance as the others - I pretty much only use the black one for everything
Interesting gif. Well I want these. Don't really need it as I can just lift Baby K up and down to get a workout on. But, they'd be fun to have. Plus I could probably make a giant rubber band gun with them at some point.
get a multi pack so as you get stronger you can use the bands with more resistance
https://www.amazon.com/Fit-Simplify-Resistance-Exercise-Instructional/dp/B01AVDVHTI/ref=sr_1_6?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1481807830&sr=1-6&keywords=resistance+bands
any sporting goods store will have em as well
I would start a home workout system if you don't like the gyms near yoga mat, set of dumbells, and resistance bands should get you through any home workout to start.
I find 30 day fitness challenges on pinterest and try to complete 1-2 every month. I think having that whole month of things planned helps me. I also set up a reward for it. So this month I'm doing an abs and arms one. If I get 28/30 days done, I will go get a manicure.
I set more weekly rewards too. I love new workout clothes. I have a whole list of things I want. So I set a goal with a new tank or sports bra as the reward. Example for the upcoming week (i run my weeks Monday-Sunday, I know that is weird) I want to run 12 6-minute miles. Obviously not all at once, but over the course of the week. If I do it, then I will be getting this tank. This is a hard one, I've been trying to get it for a few months now, but trying keeps me heading out and motivated.
I would also say find an accountabilibuddy (south park reference anyone?) to try and help keep you motivated. That can be online (me if you want me pestering your inbox) or a RL friend.

Dual catchmon is from a different company and allows multiple connections at the same time. Great for playing with friends or with multiple accounts. Also is the most expensive one. ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PHJJD3Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_RI-wDbZJ2P45R)
I personally have the basic gotcha and love it. Battery lasts a few hours but charges in five minutes. I would consider getting the dual catchmon for the multi account functionality.

The distance tracking is fantastic on the watch. If you own a Nintendo Switch, and wear your Apple Watch, it will count the movements with the controller as steps, gaining you egg distance. Two hours of playing Arms on the Switch hatched every single egg I had in incubators, to include some 10Ks.
Separately, the Apple Watch really pairs well with Apple Maps. It will make a ding noise and vibrate once in concert with apple maps when you need to make a turn. I love this feature!
With regards to the iPhone 6, it will play Pokemon Go just fine, but I would recommend a used iPhone 6s simply to get the better processor and force touch.
To be honest, I would get a better phone and a [Pokemon Gotcha] (https://www.amazon.com/DATEL-Pokémon-Wristband-iPhone-Android/dp/B06Y5BTX8L) for now. You can have it set up to auto spin poke stops, and / or auto catch Pokemon. Once you see how well it works you'll use it a lot more than your watch for distance.
And then save up for a nice Apple Watch a little later. (buy nice looking Apple Watch bands from amazon priced at 6-7 bucks rather than from Apple for way too much!)
G'luck!

Sorry tot the rick roll answered it.
I picked mine up sold by Amazon.

So I'd always be confident in their returns and customer service (especially warranty support). When it comes to CodeJunkies direct I'd always be a bit hesitant for the messing about that you potentially could face when Amazon is a known quantity. Also after the cost of postage for me it worked out cheaper.
I know you asked for ab workouts that don't require equipment, but if you can afford $11 an ab wheel is your ticket to better abs.
This and this looks fun! :3
This is also great for cooling off after a workout!
I highly recommend getting Black Mountain Products Ultimate Resistance Bands Set with Starter Guide on Amazon. It costs about $45 with prime. Bands can be combined and can get you up to between 136-162 pounds (bands give a range of weight on amazon).
It allows you to do various workouts and has a door attachment. You can do presses and work your triceps overhead. It all comes in a small black bag that is easy to transport and store.
I am not affiliated with the company, I just really love this product. I have lost about 15lbs since January using these bands while doing P90x. Would have lost more but I had to stop halfway through to free time for exit exams coming up.
Also another great product is the Valeo Ab Wheel. While Abs are made in the kitchen, not through pure exercise...an ab wheel will work you hard and strengthen your core... not that I recommend getting down on your knees in a hotel room... ick. I don't know if I could even do push ups in one... but I am a borderline germaphobe.
You could also get a jump rope.
Weight loss simply involves expending more calories than you take it. For exercise to be fruitful you need to balance out eating too.

Great, thank you. I'm still new to this, so some of the acronyms are unfamiliar. I found a GHD, which looks like it has the quality you recommend.
I'm not sure what a step platform is, unless you mean something like this. But I don't see how that relates to saving space on weights.
I understand an ab roller to be this. I remember using one of these once and was impressed with how much it seemed to exercise my abs. Good suggestion.
As for suspension system, would that be something like this? Would a weight rack serve this purpose?

When it comes to working out, I'm a huge introvert. Being able to stay in my own house and workout is probably the only reason I've been so committed thus far.
Plus, I can get a pump whenever I have an extra minute. It's the best investment I've ever made, bar none.

Buying an ab wheel will go a long way. Seriously; something like this is 15 dollars and will seriously challenge you for a long time to come.
Leg raises and double leg thrusts will target your lower abs, and ab wheels or crunch variations will hit your upper abs well. Do one of each every day for 3 sets of 10-15 reps; 30 minutes a day is probably going to be too long to dedicate to this muscle group; if you train with serious enough intensity you should exhaust these muscles before you spend 30 minutes on them.
Just the ball or the ball seat? I've been considering the ball seat:
http://www.amazon.com/Gaiam-Balance-Ball-Chair-Black/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371647806&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=exterize+ball+seat
This. And I call bullshit on you not having the time to get some exercise during your "busy but sedentary day". Sure, you may not have the time to hit the gym or take a shower if you get sweaty, but you can get more exercise during the day... Walk between meetings or appointments. No time? Park further away and walk fast for a few minutes.
Stuck at a desk on the phone?
Swap your chair for one of these http://www.amazon.com/Gaiam-Balance-Ball-Chair-Black/dp/B0007VB4NE/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&qid=1325090871&sr=8-22

If you can make this work in your office and have the funds, I highly recommend this http://www.amazon.com/LifeSpan-Fitness-TR1200-DT-Treadmill-Desk/dp/B006M2PJV0/ref=sr_1_53?ie=UTF8&qid=1325090932&sr=8-53

My point is that your best chance at success is not to come up with excuses or be a victim. Instead, figure out how to get some exercise, in spite of being busy and having a sedentary job. Sure, it's not the same as freeing up an hour or two a day to 'hit the gym', but if you can get 25% of your exercise requirements addressed without adding a 25th hour to your day, your 25% closer to your end goal.
Lots of little things add up... A little more exercise, a little more water intake, a little more attention to portion control, a little more of your plate filled with veggies. Suddenly, a new you! You can do this.

I've been using this exercise ball chair for four months now and I love it. It takes some getting used to at first, but it's really hard to slouch in it.
You should go to a Dr. Sorry, but it's true.
It could be more than just lack to padding (fat). I am and have always been very thin. I all of a sudden have pain in the same area and was diagnosed (MRI) with a bone marrow edema in my sits bone. It's from a number of factors including overuse, inflammation, sitting at a desk, and my mattress needing to be updated. I did strong curves and ride a bicycle 4 times a week, I sit on a Giam ball chair (link below) and got a new (expensive) mattress.
I still have pain when sitting for over an hour so I'm looking at standing desks. I've also had a cortisone shot in the area. All of which has helped.
Go to the Dr and find out what's going on. Plenty of skinny people can sit all day without pain - something likely needs attention from a Dr. Good luck.

I would strongly recommend something like this: http://www.amazon.com/CAP-Barbell-40-pound-Adjustable-Dumbbell/dp/B000VCDXNS#
You can then also use the plates with something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Sunny-Threaded-Chrome-Barbell-60-Inch/dp/B004EFYPBC/ (For legs, even /r/bodyweightfitness will tell you bars are useful for legs. With a bar at least you can deadlift, at least easier than with DBs -- if you try DL with DBs, don't smash your junk!)
Note that those are all "standard" (ie 1in) bars, vs "Olympic" (2in) bars. Standard are cheaper, but barbells for standard tend to only go up to ~250lbs (decent but not super heavy for legs stuff. You'll have to do volume if you max out at 250+). On the plus side, standard 1in dumbbells have "spin locks" which I find super useful for home gym things.
Going from 30lb-40lbs with those is just the cost of 10lbs worth of plates (which can often be found for $1-1.50 per pound), much less than the cost of a new set of 40lb DBs. Plus, bar if you want one.
Also, 1in plates and handles/bars are almost always, everywhere, for sale on craigslist, often for very cheap.
I have a similar set as the one on Amazon and bought plates as I needed them. I can currently load up 90# on each handle. (Can't do much with it - I use that weight for deadlift progression..)
That's a reasonable start to a home gym -- inexpensive, compact, versatile.
Bulking is all about moving heavy objects. You can find heavy things anywhere, sometimes for free.
This set of dumbbells would be a good start for a small investment.
You can take a cheap yoga ball and fill it with water up to a weight that's heavy for you and use it for a lot of things. Then fill it up a little more every few workouts. Look up slosh ball exercises.
Call around to some local tire shops and see if you can find a large used tire to take home for free and use that for tire flips.
Make your own atlas stones
Resistance bands are cheap and can work well
The trusty iron gym you can find at WalMart
Single bags of sand or concrete are the best bang for your buck for heavy and cheap I'm not sure how durable sand bags are but you can try making some and using those for modified dumbbell exercises
You can also find great deals on used weight sets on craigslist which can sometimes get you a good sized set of plates, a bar and dumbbells. You can get a set of 1" plates and a bar and still do a lot of things with them without needing a bench. Typical used pricing for these is less than $0.25/lb so you're looking at $50 for 200lbs of weight.
Sure, though you might want to invest in adjustable dumbbells which will "grow with you" for a while, so to speak.
Yes I have dumbbells. https://www.amazon.com/CAP-Barbell-40-pound-Adjustable-Dumbbell/dp/B000VCDXNS/ref=sr_1_4?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1466800475&sr=1-4&keywords=cap+dumbbell
Two sets of these.
I felt the same way like last week. I would suggest thinking about your future or things that make you feel good. For some ideas, how about:
A) New clothes. Shirts, Pants, Shoes, Jacket? :)
B) Bathroom. a Body Brush, Shower Gel, Lotion, Shavers, Bath Salts/Gel.
C) Personal entertainment items. Video Games, Books, Movies, Microphone for your PC, MP3 Player. Could be anything that you've been thinking about.
D) Self-improvement. Barbells, Medicine Ball, Aerobic Stepper, Protein Powder, Running Shoes, Water Bottle.
Hope this gives you an idea :)
Running shoes and a running app if you have a smart phone. May not be available depending on the weather.
You can get a 40 pound adjustable dumbbell set (20/20 or ~35 on one) on Amazon for $40-$50. (I used this when starting out, it's cheap and fine quality.)
/r/bodyweightfitness
Maybe a pull up bar if you can install it wherever you live.
Also move away from the second-hand-smoke-source if at all possible.
You could try secondhand stores or gym equipment resalers for dumbbells. Something like this would take up a lot less space than individual dumbbells, and may be cheaper than Bowflex-style adjustables (depending on your needs, obv).
I own a flat bench like this that stands up in the corner when I'm not using it. I use a stability ball if I want to do something like an incline dumbbell press at home, but a foldable incline bench like this might also work well.
*
This whole wishlist is health items because I work out to P90X.
Sadly I cannot afford my weights or yoga mat yet so I make due; but some day I'll be able to work out and truly lift weights (instead of bands) during the lifting days, and do the yoga days at all (no mat = no yoga).
Well anyway this is a cool contest :)
I'm only on the first month, but I've found that (at least at this point) I can successfully modify "The Booty-ful Beginnings". I'm pretty weak though, so I won't need to worry about reaching the limit of my dumbbells for a bit. There is a section of Strong Curves for at home, so that might be what you're looking for.
I use an exercise ball, yoga mat, [these dumbells] (http://www.amazon.ca/Cap-Barbell-RSWB-40TPB-Dumbbell-Pounds/dp/B000VCDXNS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426466158&sr=8-1&keywords=dumbbells) - I found them for under $50 not so long ago though - and my couch. I think I'll grab a chin-up bar soon though. Working well so far, and will until I need more than 40lbs... After that I might just have to go to the gym, but depending on your goals it might not matter as much.
I bought these on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VCDXNS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It comes with the plates to take a single dumbbell up to 30lbs, or do two 15s. You can also purchase additional plates if you need to go higher.
I haven't experienced any clanking with this set so far. I make sure to set the rubber stoppers at either end of the plates and screw the cap on as tightly as I can, and I've had no issues at all.

Sorry, here's the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/Stamina-55-1610-InMotion-Elliptical-Trainer/dp/B000VICRO8/ref=sr_1_1?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1485305763&sr=1-1&keywords=mini+elliptical
It works well as an elliptical, though of course, it doesn't give you the full range of motion that a gym elliptical would.
I bought this elliptical.https://www.amazon.com/Stamina-InMotion-E1000-Compact-Strider/dp/B000VICRO8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2SA8JRC8MYR8E&keywords=stamina+inmotion+elliptical+machine&qid=1564248315&s=gateway&sprefix=stamina+%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExNENEMUlHVkNZMVkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA1MjMwNDMyWEw1SVhHQ0xWUFlaJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTEwMDE4MzgzRkxaNk5OTk40TUVLJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Wow I dont know why the link is so long! Anyway, I wanted to work out at home because I was self conscious. Also I couldn't really afford a gym. This is a great elliptical for compact places. I had a really small apartment, so it it was perfect. I would start with about 45 minutes and go up as I started to get better aerobic health. I also did floor exercises about 4 days a week- sit ups, planks, squats. It was very simple and I felt great after. I ended up eventually going to a gym and running, then got into yoga. I lost about 60 pounds. I believe the key is to go slow and make small changes. Dont do anything too extreme. One thing at a time. Start with a workout you think you may enjoy. Then when you want a change from that, make a change.
look at the customer images here - there's a guy who built his exact machine for $100:

Yep, I have a stand-up desk with a wobble board, and I still feel antsy from time to time. I've also been looking into this in combination with the standing desk.

80 % Struggle: I ate SO MUCH chocolate. :( I bought a bag that has peanut butter cups, rolo's and kisses in it. :(
20% Success: I exercised for 2 hours and 45 mins to make up for all the chocolate I ate.

I hopped on my mini elliptical and just kept going until my feet hurt. I wasn't doing anything else so might as well. I do it while I watch TV. :) I love that thing so much!

Were I used to work as a janitor the treadmills said the same thing. Actually they can still handle people at that weight at a walking pace, but they have trouble keeping up with anything past a walk for heavier people.
Luckily they had the elliptical machines that were just the most awesome thing ever, I love elliptical OH MAN I get a girly hard on just thinking about working out on that 4,000$ beast
But now I'm unemployed and barely keeping the weight off as I look for a job, even though I walk almost everywhere, it doesn't offer the same cardio workout the elliptical did.
now I'm a sad sad 330 lb cat.
and I wonder if this thing works http://www.amazon.com/Stamina-55-1610-InMotion-Elliptical-Trainer/dp/B000VICRO8

And I have this little elliptical thing that you can stand or sit on - it is tweaky on my knees when I stand but I telework a lot so if I am stuck on the phone I'll stand and use this.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VICRO8/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
From what little research I've done, I'd be ok with trying to negate the risk of vericose veins and lose the weight I've gotten from sitting.
However I'm looking into getting either one of these or one of these to keep my legs moving so the blood isn't allowed to pool. Would either of them help?
yeah, it does for me. I walk a lot too - but I have heart issues which means when it gets cold (as it does in Colorado from time to time), I tend to not go out to exercise. Exercise + cold (restricts blood flow) = bad for me. Instead I have a small, free standing elliptical machine I use - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VICRO8/ - watch TV and elliptical away for exercise that day. In fact, I have two of them - one in my condo in town and one in my cabin in the mountains.
And I'll do projects in the house - something that needed fixing and I hadn't gotten to, working in the wood shop, a deep clean of something, whatever.
But yes, the weather definitely affects what I'm going to do. Above 40/45f you'll find me outside a lot. Under that, you'll find me mostly indoors - not exclusively, but mostly.
Fortunately in Colorado, it might be a low of 0 high of 30f one day and then in the 50's or 60's the next day ;) The cold comes, but doesn't stay for long periods (at least on the front range...) Then again, it could be 70f at lunch and 30f by dinner too (or vice versa)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VICRO8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one I use. But there's plenty to choose from.
There are a lot of great ideas in here! I use some of them, but I also have a small pedal/elliptical thing under my desk that I can do short workouts with while I’m sitting at the computer - I use the ‘indoor cycle’ workout and do about 20 minutes at a time.
I notice you’re in the UK so you may have to poke around your Amazon to save on shipping because it’s heavy, but https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000VICRO8/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is the one I got. (Sorry for the raw link instead of one in the text, but I can’t find the formatting hints in the reddit app...)
You could get one of those mini ellipticals like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VICRO8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I recently got one and I just set it on the floor, and you can just sit on the couch and do it with your feet (so it feels like being on one of those stationary bikes). It's really easy on the joints, and you can go as fast or slow as you want. It's a great way to get your heart rate up a little bit without having to go to a gym, and it's kind of like walking, but without the back pain you're experiencing, since you can do it sitting down. I usually turn on Netflix while I do it as a distraction.
Yep, even if you have to save a little longer, it's worth it in the long run (as long as you've got the space for it). If you're willing to save longer/spend more, you can get a squat rack with adjustable hooks, pull up bar, and dip stand. Get yourself pair of these, and now you can do basically any non-machine exercise that exists.
This is my setup, so Bias/10.
Build a home gym. A couple plate loaded dumbbell handles, an olympic bar, power cage, adjustable bench, and enough plates for your current strength level. For barbell exercises you can get away with 2 25lb plates, 2 10 lb plates, 2 5lb plates, and then enough 45's for whatever you need at your current strength level and just buy more as needed. Might be a big initial cost but I'd rather spend $500 on enough equipment for my own workout equipment than spend $10 a month to make 0 progress.

just an example of what you'd need for a basic home gym setup. For $400 you can get a bench, squat rack, and the dumbbell handles, another 100 bucks will get you enough weights to be able to do pretty much any dumbbell exercise and you could use the same plates for the barbell as you do the dumbbell so you wouldn't need a whole lot of plates. considering my golds gym membership is $40/month that means for roughly 15 months of a gym membership you can get enough equipment for bodybuilding at home any time you want without having to drive to the gym or wait for equipment to open up or worry about getting kicked out for working too hard. If you find the stuff on craigslist im sure you can do it for even cheaper.
You really need something adjustable, because it will be different for each lift, plus you will want to keep moving up as you get stronger.
You could buy sets of 20kg, 30kg, 40kg dumbbells which should last you for a while if you're just starting out, but it's probably cheaper to buy some dumbbell handles that you can load up with weights like these. Then just get some 2.5kg and 5kg plates to load them up with.
You could get a loadable dumbbell handle like this and bring it with you. Titan and rogue also both make them
https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Solid-20-Inch-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=Olympic+handle&qid=1567272305&s=gateway&sr=8-4
Like someone else said, I got these and just slowly added plates as I needed, usually off Amazon. Have used them for 4-5 years now, they work great.
If I had to go back and do it again, however, there's a reasonable chance I'd use these if I could find them. They are a little more expensive, but they let you use 2'' plates, which means if you ever get a bar you can just buy a nice one and use the same plates.
Of course you can also go dig around Ross Enamait's site and get his training books to DIY build your own 1'' bars when you need to carry a lot of weight. That's also pretty inexpensive, but you really gotta do a little work for it, and may hurt yourself, so be careful (and of course "I am not a professional and only provide this as educational, etc, don't blame me if you break yourself")
I got a pair of these and stocked up on extra 5 and 10lb weights. It's a pain to switch them out sometimes, but it's a space and money saver.
yeah, I have the handles but they're really awkward.

$40/single not pair.
Normally people just buy handles and they can use their existing plates.
http://www.amazon.ca/Cap-Barbell-20-Inch-Olympic-Dumbbell/dp/B0010YOBB4/ref=sr_1_54?ie=UTF8&qid=1417476069&sr=8-54&keywords=dumbbells
2in plates? You mean plates with 2in bore (hole) aka olympic-style plates?
Is 20in too long?
http://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Solid-20-Inch-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4/
If that doesn't work, you could always ask a local welding shop to make something for you either from scratch or by welding on to existing short handle.
If I had to pick only one, dumbbells, hands-down. And for a started pack of weight selection it will be the same as kettlebells. Get pairs of 20,35,50lbs. About 1$ per pound is a fine price for buying new. Look closer towards <0.60 cents per pound on the used route.
If personal budget is the lead to your question, go with a blank dumbbell handle. It has practically infinite loading & mirrors compatibility with your plates. The one draw back is that it doesn't lend itself to the speed of conditioning. However, the versatility for accessory work is through the roof in weighing pros v cons.

why not buy [olympic dumbells] (http://www.amazon.com/CAP-Barbell-Olympic-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4) and not need two kinds of plates ?
Iron Gym Xtreme
Ohhh its a dip bar. the other one is a pull up bar. you said bottom of it so i was looking towards the floor lol.
I have a cheap, but reliable recumbent bike: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KV1MJU
I think I'd recommend jumping rope, jogging, or doing some HIIT over a recumbent bike, though.
For strength:
A door frame pull up bar: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ND04U4
Push up handles: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OEQ50Y
Set of adjustable dumbbells: http://www.amazon.com/Pair-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Cast-Total/dp/B007WKK5HE
A weight vest or belt, something to add weight to body weight exercises like pull ups, dips, and push ups. These can get spendy (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IU8ZCA), but are a good way to continue progressive overload on body weight exercises.
A bench with incline/decline and leg raise/ham curl piece on the end.
Also, the Lifeline USA Pullup Revolution can help you do assisted pull ups along with doing negatives. I also have the Iron gym pullup bar. They work great together.
Unfortunately I can't answer you, so I'm gonna be rude and steal your thread a bit with a similar question.
I'm gonna by a chin up bar in the likes of Iron Gym and some rings to hang on the bar, mainly for dips and inverted rows. Does anybody else have a similar setup? Is it safe? And where is the optimal place on the bar to hang the rings from?
I've got this type of bar and if you get some of these and use it to pad out the ends that lean against the door, you won't get any marks.
Everything you said is correct, but just for others who read this, they now make ones that come out from the door and allow the full range of motion:
An example: http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Total-Upper-Body-Workout/dp/B001ND04U4
I don't have one, but that's what I've been looking at. Seems like a pretty wide grip though, and I'm not sure if you'd be able to do chinups on it or not. It looks like your shoulders/traps might hit the handles on the sides.
Not to be a debbie downer, but I had one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Total-Upper-Body-Workout/dp/B001ND04U4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376498059&sr=8-2&keywords=pull+up+bar
and it ended up damaging my door. I weigh 220 and was using it quite a bit, had some splintering on the wood.
Here, use one of these
It doesn't put stress on the frame, but rather the wall itself. Your gf might be thinking of the ones that install like a shower curtain rod.
The main thing is to make exercising convenient for you. If you want to go to a gym ..then make sure it is next to your house or work. But personally I think gym is helpful if you have a partner (that's the biggest motivation) But if you don't want to pay monthly & drive waste gas to get to the gym ....just buy some dumbbells, Iron Gym Pull up bar, & put on some you-tube videos like this one.
You'll get motivation ...start eating right....start reading up on the right foods...& make a list of your fitness goals...Always track your shit. Just remember it doesn't matter that your working out 2 hours everyday....it just matters that you do something...anything at all.
Dunno if it's just a joke about you're username of if you really are interested in working your arms.
If you are interested, push-ups mostly work your chest and I think back/shoulders to an extent. For biceps/triceps you just need a dumbbell or something. Getting a pull up bar can really help a lot too. I have and definitely suggest this.
I wear cotton t-shirts (the cheapo Hanes kind that come in plastic bags) and I'm comfortable pretty much year-round. If I know I'm going to be sweating a lot I'll use those little round band-aids for my nips, but for the most part it's not an issue.
Gray or white cotton Hanes shirt + these shorts in navy + sometimes a headband, is a preferred look.
These shorts are incredible:

Literally just running shorts: Soffe Men's Running Short,Black,MED https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003AU5VZQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_xDiAwbKM8VAFR
Short shorts (amazon) for running. Post run I will stop at grocery store (still wearing them). Women ogle me. I am not sure if they are looking at my legs, junk, or butt.
Amazon has the soffee shorts, I use those for faster workouts or 5k.
I have a couple pairs of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003AU5VZQ/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
Erm, $19 will get you a spibelt or equivalent. Great for running, it doesn't bounce with a smartphone onboard and you don't even notice it's there.
I use a SPI-Belt which wraps around your waist. Fits my Nexus and works great. Plus, it can hold a lot, really stretchy material.
It's like a fanny pack, but is elastic and stays in place. I have a phablet phone so an arm band is out of the question.
http://www.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Small-Personal-Item-belt/dp/B004QQTDA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417053335&sr=8-1&keywords=spibelt
The microsoft band is a fitness tracker that has a heart monitor, gps, and simple smart watch features.
http://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-band/en-us
I remember hearing about them cutting open backpacks last year so just one thing to note. I'm going with the fannypack Spibelt this year as per a Reddit recommendation.
Not sure if this will help with your iphone issue but try getting your phone to be close to your body for warmth. Something like spibelt underneath your layers would work great. Or a form fitting layer with pocket will keep your phone close to your body and keep it from bouncing.
For your latter question, how about compression shorts and wear your regular shorts on top? Keeps your legs from roasting and two layers to keep warm.
Agree i specifically use a Spibelt. Has been great.
https://www.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Sports-Running-Belt-Adventurers/dp/B004QQTDA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478291870&sr=8-1&keywords=spibelt
thanks! I was planning on bringing 4 and I should get everything. i was thinking of getting something like this http://www.amazon.com/SPIbelt-Small-Personal-Great-Runners/dp/B004QQTDA2/ref=sr_1_3/192-0708379-1440824?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1377738503&sr=1-3
then I can pack them and it's not a bulky pack to get hung up on stuff
Yay!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for the contest!!
I highly recommend The SPI Belt. That and my Garmin are the only things I take with me.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004QQTDA2?pc_redir=1407565995&robot_redir=1
Used this at Coachella this year and it worked perfectly. You can slide it under your waistband on gym shorts so there's no chance of getting pick pocketed unless someone reaches in your pants
http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-The-Ultimate-Builder/dp/B005FIS14Y
Fat Gripz are effective too, albeit overpriced for two pieces of rubber.
Fat Gripz http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-Ultimate-Builder-Blue/dp/B005FIS14Y
I have a pull up bar in the door to my room, and bought a pair of Fat Gripz to add to them. Everytime I walk by, I do a few pull ups, and almost every time after a roll, I let myself decompress in a deadhang. Grip strength for me has come out of little habits. Its funny, because I'm 5'11.5 (fucking doctors) and 135lb. My forearms are the size of my biceps.
Another option u/Espard_ would be to build some farmer handles. I actually built these farmer handles this weekend. Used them this morning for the first time and they worked like a charm!
Edit: Also, since you are wanting to hit forearms more I'd also suggest getting some Fat Gripz. I just got some not to long ago and am loving them so far. Not only can you throw them on the Dumbbells when doing farmer carriers (in your case static holds) you can also use them for other exercises like chin ups, hammer curls, etc..pretty much any exercise with the dumbbell/barbell when ever you'd want your forearms to work harder.
https://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-Ultimate-Builder-Blue/dp/B005FIS14Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469918199&sr=8-2&keywords=fat+grips
The Fat gripz.
Have them, use them, the last two gyms I"ve been at had them too (of course, after I already had bought them). work great, grip well, and hold up really well.
you're wrong. these are made by the same exact company in the same factory. it's not a myth, it's the real deal.
Here's an example.
When doing research a couple years ago, I found this product which sold very well:
https://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-Ultimate-Builder-Blue/dp/B005FIS14Y/
My source found the manufacturer and was willing to make us the same product to sell counterfeits in any other market outside the USA. They then told us to hold on for a month and they would make a different version with a slightly different chemical makeup.
I got samples in a lot of different colors but ultimately didnt go with the product... others have and there's been plenty of PL companies trying:
https://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Gripz-Thick-Simulator-Gray/dp/B010C5ABGA/
https://www.amazon.com/Dumbbell-Kettlebell-Strengthen-Bodybuilding-Strongman/dp/B012ZIGVXE/
prior to this, I encountered many suppliers willing to do this and I know for a fact the otterbox manufacturers were making 100% copies and selling them to other sellers.
I'm gonna bistow upon you the holy grail of grip training my friend. They come in 3 sizes
https://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-Ultimate-Diameter-Original/dp/B005FIS14Y
Fatgripz is the big name brand. Like these:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FIS14Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.tl0Cb52C55RA
Maybe I already had pretty good grip strength, but most of the obstacles seemed fairly easy after using these on my pull-up bar for a month or so.
Does the 2.25 Fat Gripz (most popular one) replicate the width of a Strongman axle?
I have these as well, they're pretty awesome. Pretty tough on the shoulders, as well as the chest. I'm thinking of cutting the rubberized grip off eventually and putting on some Fat Gripz for extra forearm exercise.
Not sure there is much you can do. I put hockey tape on some old barbells at one point and as you say they got manky.
You could find some grips to cover the knurling with the added boost of improving forearm strength, like these.
Non-mobile: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FIS14Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1425564027&sr=8-1&keywords=fat+gripz&dpPl=1&dpID=41Kvy63gkLL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SX200_QL40
^That's ^why ^I'm ^here, ^I ^don't ^judge ^you. ^PM ^/u/xl0 ^if ^I'm ^causing ^any ^trouble. ^WUT?
Another way to improve your grip strength is to buy these:
http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz/dp/B005FIS14Y
You can do your workout routine like normal, except slip these onto your dumbbells or straight bar and it makes them a lot harder to hold onto.
I would second this opinion. I've done a lot of rock climbing and I can still sometimes tweak my hands just with grippers. I would recommend deadlifts and farmers walks. If you want to take that shit to the next level get some fat gripz http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005FIS14Y?pc_redir=1413280361&robot_redir=1
These are pretty awesome... http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005FIS14Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1425564027&sr=8-1&keywords=fat+gripz&dpPl=1&dpID=41Kvy63gkLL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SX200_QL40
I have a studio apartment and use a half rack (something kind of like this but not exactly). Then I have an adjustable bench that goes under it. It's great for squats and benching. Then I have a custom-built narrow deadlift platform made of plywood topped with foam. You don't really need a huge platform unless you want to do Oly lifts, which probably isn't happening in your apartment.
If I were to do it again, I'd probably go even smaller (and cheaper) by getting squat stands like these. A rack is probably a little sturdier, but the stands are more versatile. You could probably rig them up to do dips off of, which is something I don't currently have equipment for.
Dumbell squats
Dumbell squats 2.
Plenty of ways to do squats without a power rack.
There's also these handy things if you want barbell squats and save space.
I have a mental block from squatting heavy, but no such problem for deadlift. It comes from the weight being on my back. With a heavy deadlift, I can just drop the weight and fail the rep. With a squat that's too heavy, I'm pretty much fucked cause I have these baby squat stands.
Two questions:
I use a version of these by Valor and they are quite sturdy as long as you have at least a 25lb plate on the peg, preferably more. I don't have any stability issues with bench, and the price is great.
https://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-9-Power-Squat/dp/B006CW02ZS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543423508&sr=8-3&keywords=valor+squat+stand
People are assuming you want to squat from bench press height. Definitely squat from the proper height... I assumed you're looking at something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-9-Power-Squat/dp/B006CW02ZS
They're also correct that you'll probably get complaints though.
a real power cage is nice if you can get one. I've been using these: http://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-9-Power-Squat/dp/B006CW02ZS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422289901&sr=8-2&keywords=squat+stand&pebp=1422289894989&peasin=B006CW02ZS
Works just fine with 205# on the bar and a 45# plate on each stand.
I've failed into it with no problems from bench, squat, and OHP.
Couple of things.
With all the above, I'm practically the poster child of what not to do. All this said though, I'm still getting it done. Not just sitting on my ass doing nothing, so I got that going for me. I'm in good health, pretty fit now, and happy with myself, which is way more than I could say two years ago. So I guess I've met my goals, and now I need new ones. :)
This works out well for me for squats at home:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006CW02ZS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Might work well for you since you mentioned compact. g/l!
A plain squat rack will work for you. You could use something as simple as this: http://amzn.com/B006CW02ZS
As for the floor, There's 400 pound people, if two of them hugging doesn't break a floor I don't think a squat rack will. For overhead press you can take it outside most of the year, otherwise seated is the next best option.
This one looks good
This awesome upright bike relates to /u/Sp3cia1K because I'm pretty sure it's the same one that she was gifted not too long ago. :) BUT These binoculars relate to her much better because they also relate to her adorable son, Loki! :D I bet it's something he'd love because he seems to be close in age to my God son.
Happy Birthday, /u/Sp3cia1K! Is it awesome in person too? :0
I bought this awesome and cheap upright exercise bike from amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Exerpeutic-Folding-Magnetic-Upright-Pulse/dp/B007595TKU
Everytime I play any video games or watch tv in my room, I bike too. It is so easy and time flies while you are biking - especially if you keep yourself occupied. After doing this for a few months, I bought a road bike, and now I am outside biking every chance I can get. I started running again too, and have been counting calories every day using myfitnesspal. This exercise bike was what helped me start on my health journey, and I am so happy I bought it.
What about getting something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Exerpeutic-Folding-Magnetic-Upright-Pulse/dp/B007595TKU
FWIW, I bought this stationary bike several years ago from Amazon, and I like it well enough. The weight limit is 300lbs.
I've just seen general all over weight loss and tone, and I can bound up/down stairs way easier now. I think this is the one, they must have upped the price a little since November.
So I hate biking around on the roads for my fear of getting hit and honestly a bit self-conscious and I think I've found a decent solution to my problem, but I have no idea how practical it is. I've been thinking about getting an exercise bike (Something like this) and setting it up so I can ride it and sit at my computer desk at the same time. I haven't really thought of any technical problems and I'd really like someone to point out flaws to it and tell me if its a horrible idea. I plan on using the bike handles and securing something to place my keyboard and mouse on and be able to use the exercise bike while I do my online things like gaming, netflix, and reddit.
You could get an elliptical or a bike machine for a home machine.
I currently use a shitty $100 stationary bike for my cardio but I'm thinking about upgrading. I don't mind second hand so I'll shop FB but does anyone have recommendations for something around the $500 range. Biggest NEED is that it has to either be compact or be compactable so I can store it in my living room out of the way when not in use. I want something that I can reasonably do 30mins of LISS on; the current bike is not the most sustainable at 130HR+ for 30min as my grundel takes a beating and it's either super easy so I have to pedal fast as shit or hard to the point my quads are locking up in just a few minutes.
Thoughts? What do you meatheads use?
I bought this one before my ACL injury but am very glad I kept it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007595TKU
Cheapish and works great for biking 30+ mins a day while watching tv.
you can try wrist curls, or one of these things
I also found that a finger trainer helped me develop the muscles in my fingers:
http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
:) totally working on it
http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
i reccomend this, blue or red
Grab yourself one of these and use it while reading, watching TV, etc. https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
I noticed a pretty nice increase in pinky strength after about a week. I still use it to keep my hand strength up, for both hands.
Funny that you posted this, I just bought this yesterday
http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
I'm also a rock climber, so I have one of these just lying around in my room, but it also works for starcraft purposes to really get the blood flowing to all of my fingers. Maybe it'd work for you?
>I just read on /r/guns recently that those grip exercises are actually bad for trigger control and shooting. Basically, what the claim was is that they increase grip strength but decrease finger dexterity.
Did they provide source(s)? I'd be interested to see them.
There are also Gripmasters that let you isolate fingers, but I didn't find it as effective. I've also played with those gyroscope thingies. No noticeable difference in shooting performance, but they're fun to irritate people with while watching tv.
Let's be honest, though -- operating a pistol doesn't require that much finger dexterity. You're shooting, not painting the Mona Lisa.
Something like this would work- (http://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Research-Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG) or my local store always has these balls that you can get as well.
Get a Gripmaster and start using it, both hands. I used to sprain a thumb every week before I got one, and now I haven't sprained any finger in over a year. You can use it while watching TV or in class, it's pretty awesome.
Why? They are so poor quality, and longer. Bad to use, and flimsy. So much cheaper to get something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/CAP-Barbell-40-pound-Adjustable-Dumbbell/dp/B000VCDXNS/ref=sr_1_4?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1412353968&sr=1-4&keywords=dumbbell
Good for the money.
http://www.amazon.com/Cap-Barbell-40-Pound-Dumbbell-Set/dp/B000VCDXNS
Using the bands is an option but I prefer the dumbbells with P90X workouts. As for what you "should" start with, it really depends on what your current physical state is. The guide that comes with it will help you figure it out. You will work your way into the heavier weights. Just get started!!
Maybe both, how about building it up instead of just do it slowly, like the first purchase buy a cheap bench, barbell and some dumbbells, i tried out a pair of dumbbells that are 60$ and goes up to 40 pounds on each, they hold up well. Meanwhile when you are building up a home gym, you should get the 1 year membership. Here are the dumbbells. http://www.amazon.com/Cap-Barbell-40-Pound-Dumbbell-Set/dp/B000VCDXNS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1375707402&sr=8-2&keywords=dumbbells
I use a small CamelBak for runs over 18 miles if there is no convenient way to get water along the route. Otherwise I use a SpiBelt.
Get one of those tiny fanny pack spider belt things.
Like this.
Fat Gripz! Sounds gimicky but they really do work.
http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Gripz-Ultimate-Builder-Blue/dp/B005FIS14Y
Start getting used to using grip accessory tools that make the handle thicker. According to Charles Poliquin, he has been a fan of these since the 80s and the original idea came from Alan Calvert a father of weight training. The thicker bar activate more muscles (particularly in the forearm), builds functional strength as most things in the world you push or pull are not 1" in diameter, and increases motor activation. He references a notation from a study done by Jerry Telle who found that electrical activity in the arm was higher with larger grip handles.
Here are some examples and are relatively inexpensive compared to buying a complete set of thick handled dumbbells.
These are the ones I've had for about 3 years and they're in perfect condition. Note these are a harder durometer of plastic than Fatgrips I think if that matters. This is a newer version:

If anybody has had experience with these - regardless of the brand, it's the concept I'm seeking tutelage on - please let me know your thoughts on them. They look good on paper.
Depressing as fuck..... but seriously Upright bike I guess

I weight around 125 lbs right now. 5'10''. Male. So I'm really skinny. I'm not really looking for anything high-end because I may get a power rack later. This weight lifting equipment will help me get started toward that goal.
