This one is perfect!

I have a feeling the pillow and coffee table are a large part of your issue! I've also found 4 risers to be the correct height for me. I make sure my back isn't too high on it, around shoulder blade area. I put a gym mat over the step/risers to make it soft. Look forward the whole time rather than up at the ceiling. These bar cushions are great- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CJHDTV8/ref=twister_B07FF6S86T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I have this Squat Sponge and haven’t seen much bruising: https://www.amazon.com/Squat-Sponge-diameter-Olympic-Barbell/dp/B00RN8OWI8

u/electricshoelaces · 5 pointsr/xxfitness

I bought this one off amazon: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B01CJHDTV8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

No complaints yet! Though I'm only up to about 160 lbs for hip thrusts.

Cable machine add on weight

My gym has exactly three of these and they are as precious as gold.

u/catfield · 5 pointsr/homegym

The three most popular and affordable plate loaded and adjustable single pulley systems are these:

Titan - https://www.titan.fitness/wall-mounted-pulley-tower.html

Valor - https://www.amazon.com/Valor-Fitness-BD-62-Mount-Station/dp/B01LOX2PPO

Archon - https://fitarchon.com/product/adjustable-duel-pulley-station/

Plate loaded is definitely the way to go unless money is no concern. I own the Valor and would recommend it, though if I were buying again I would get the Archon since its the only one of the 3 that has wall mounts on the bottom of the tower in addition to the top.

If you want to go extremely minimialist you could do something like this - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZ244XO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/BillJackShipton · 4 pointsr/homegym

Try something like this or this or this.

Your problem is why I always advise people, buy a FULL RACK; never a half rack. Half racks are half the functionality with all the footprint and pretty near all the price as well.

u/Asophi · 4 pointsr/StrongCurves

I use the Iron Bull Squat Pad from Amazon it’s super durable and comfortable!

u/hiker923 · 3 pointsr/Fitness
u/krissycole87 · 3 pointsr/xxfitness

You should look into the exercises in the Strong Curves program, or consider doing the Strong Curves program. I have been doing it for 4 months now and my glutes (and the rest of my legs: quads, hammies, calves) have never felt stronger. He has so many great exercises in that program.
Also, I use a bar pad when I do hip trusts because the bar would dig right into my pelvic/hip bones and it would be seriously painful. Here is the one I use, they arent very expensive, and it made all the difference for me.

Drop 20 bucks on your own and take it in with you in your gym bag if it's really bothering you.

Copying and pasting a comment from a previous thread -

I did a DIY setup, with everything coming from Amazon except the carabiners, which you can pretty much find anywhere. Here's the links for the parts:

Steel Cable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YDK49M/

Wire Rope Clips: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00III7IP6/

Pulleys: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BD6BSQ/

Thimbles: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038YY3LW/

Tie-down Straps (for hanging pulleys from the rack): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AS5QC1C/

Loading Pin: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IRY5U14/

Assuming you have some tools around, this should be everything you would need. I recommend a bolt cutter if you don't already have one. I thought I would be able to cut the steel cable with the wire cutters built into my pliers and it was not happening. Ended up having to make a trip to the tool shop this morning to get that.

A barbell pad. Something like that if you want something designed for the job

u/ganymede_mine · 3 pointsr/bodybuilding
u/Coolbeans224 · 3 pointsr/xxfitness

this one!

Only used it once so far but as you can tell I'm a fan haha

u/TitaniuIVI · 3 pointsr/homegym

I would go for the rack since it's a lot more versatile than any individual piece of equipment. Also 8x8 isn't very big so you'll want to eliminate as many unitaskers as possible. With a budget of $600 you should try and look at used equipment on OfferUp or Craigslist to get better quality equipment, but new is not out of the question.

Here's a list of what you can get for a pretty decent setup at $600...

(Prices are sale prices. Sign up for CamelCamelCamel or Keepa and set alerts for the items on Amazon. The frequently go down to the prices listed)

Item | Price
---|---
Fitness Reality 810XLT Power Rack | $150
Fitness Reality Adjustable Bench | $85
CAP Barbell 300 lb. Olympic Grip Weight Set | $180
4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. Thick Rubber Stall Mat | $40 x 3
Valor Fitness MB-A BD-7 Dip Handle Accessory Set | $35
CAP Barbell Olympic 2-Inch Plate and Bar Storage Rack | $30

That gets you to the $600 budget on the dot.

This should cover most of your needs. You can replace the plate tree with some Titan weight pegs to hang from the rack if you want that instead. You can also just throw some plywood on the floor instead of the floor mats or mix and match plywood and floor mats.

This is almost the same setup I have except I was able to pick up some dumbells and plates off OfferUp so it came out a little cheaper. So far my home gym setup is at $520 and all I'm missing is the stall mats so I should be hitting the $600 goal myself once I get those.

u/Psotnik · 2 pointsr/bodybuilding

Farmers walk with fat grips is killer. Use the ends of a rope pull like grenade grips and try to hold as long as possible. I find these exercises really incorporate the thumb more than using regular bar thickness.

u/Penguuinz · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

I was able to find a local guy selling his equipment as he was moving locations (squat rack, platforms, barbells, training blocks, benches). Another guy was selling LB plates to convert his gym to KGs. Another guy was selling a GHD and Reverse Hyper.
The best things I've bought off of Amazon:

  1. https://www.amazon.com/A2ZCare-T-Bar-Plate-Insert-Landmine/dp/B06XGWKWF4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1521732154&sr=8-4&keywords=landmine

  3. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BDLJ5G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also bought my dumbbells from Walmart. It looks like they have a combo dumbbell & bench deal going on- it looks like a good option!! https://www.walmart.com/ip/CAP-Strength-FID-Bench-with-150-lb-Dumbbell-Set/55121654

u/IBurnForChocolate · 2 pointsr/orangetheory

This is what I use. Diamok anchor

u/netlo · 2 pointsr/homegym

Do you have access to a gym with cable machines? One thing that could assist would be one of these and just use it on your forearm. Then do things like cable flies, curls, or tricep pushdowns. It may not be ideal, but it would take your wrist out of the equation.

If you don't have access to a cable machine you could use one of those straps paired with anything similar to this and still do curls and flies (laying on a bench/tall flat surface).

u/Brendan123746 · 2 pointsr/homegym

^ That described my fears with it pretty well.

On amazon you can find a standlone lat pulldown / row machine plate loaded for around 250.

The T3 looks around 430.

You can find 300 lbs of weights with a beater bar at Dicks for 200.

A cheap curl bar you can get for 30 bucks on amazon.

Landmine attachement for the rack $30

Incline / decline bench
The bench you were getting for 410:
https://www.amazon.com/BodySolid-GFID71-Heavy-Duty-Bench/dp/B000EB7O2M/ref=sr_1_14?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1504630563&sr=1-14&keywords=Body-Solid+bench

However you can find a decent one for 310
https://www.amazon.com/XMark-Incline-Decline-Weight-XM-7604/dp/B0080QZKHE/ref=sr_1_13?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1504630426&sr=1-13&keywords=incline+decline+bench

This puts you at 1250 / 1350 depending on your bench

you are missing 100lbs of weights and lets assume the cheaper bench, so add 100 for the weights at $100,
1350

Add in a better bar:
Rogue B&R for 300 (less aggressive knurl than the ohio power, but still has a center knurl) Do some research on a bunch of bars if you do go this route.

1650

From here maybe go with some adjustable dumbbells.
These are singles, so a pair for $70
https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Solid-20-Inch-Dumbbell-Handle/dp/B0010YOBB4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504631135&sr=8-1&keywords=olympic+adjustable+dumbbells

You will want decent clips, rogue is suggesting to use these with their dumbbells, so https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-oso-barbell-collars 50 there.

I think we are at 1770.
From here I would get more 10 and 5 lb plates, since you have the dumbbells you will want more than one pair and that is what the 300lb set gives you. so 3 more pairs of 10s and another pair 5s. That should be around 70lbs, worst case scenario $100.

That puts you at 1870. I probably missed some small stuff (handles and such for the lat pulldown / landmine) that would close the gap to 2k, but if not maybe add the dip bar to your rack (if you like dips)
https://www.titan.fitness/cages-and-racks/t-3-racks/t-3-rack-attachments/titan-t-3-y-dip-bar.html

that would put you at 1940. You are still missing a preacher curl station, but I personally don't feel that is necessary.

Edit missing handles:
https://www.amazon.com/Special-Sales-Yes4All-Tricep-Attachments/dp/B013JL05O2/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504632159&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=lat+pull+down+close+grip+handle

https://www.amazon.com/Yes4All-Combo-Package-Straight-Rotating/dp/B00HHED20C/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1504632233&sr=8-5&keywords=lat+pull+down+handle

I would use the first one for the landmine handles aswell. I personally like that grip a lot more than the landmine specific ones.

Those two combined are $55
Now at 1,992 not including tax. However I don't think your quote included tax either so I think its comparable.

Realizing how far the 2k went, (assuming my math is somewhat decent) This is the route I would go and would suggest. Even if the pull down system in that cage works flawlessly I still think this is a better setup since your getting dumbbells, a better bar, a better rack, I think more weight (although very cheap)

Edit: The only thing I would consider changing is switching out the 300lb iron set for cheap bumpers at $1 / lb. maybe 3 pairs of 45s as bumpers. (270lbs). Then still get the 25s, 4 sets of 10s and 2 sets of 5s, and 2 sets of 2.5s as iron. Rogue Echo looks to be $1.3 / lb. This would bump your weight cost up to 500ish. We were at 300 on weights, so 200 over. If you drop the dip bar, closer to 100 over. This would make your deadlifts quieter and easier on the floor. The only drawback is the width of the plates. You aren't going to be able to put more than, 5ish on the bar. So probably 495lb.

Edit: For the dumbbell handles you need 2 sets of collars, not just 1 like I listed

u/ihaxr · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Here's the link from my order history (looks like they are only in stock from 3rd party sellers... I paid $33.06): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B29E0HM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went with these because they "snap" right on or you can just lift them up and they stay out of the way... no bolts or anything to adjust them.

u/Nwball · 2 pointsr/Fitness

A few other things in addition to what was written below (above). Definitely narrow and you get used to the black bars. If you're a larger guy, i can see it being really tight. I wish you could bolt the rack down as i build a cheap platform and sometimes when i rerack on a heavier squat i move the rack inadvertantly.

That said, out of all the gym equipment i have, this is probably the last thing on my list to upgrade. I bought it for $150 from amazon last year and have no regrets. Also the valor dip bars fit perfectly with this rack which is nice. Like others have said, i never felt unsafe or felt that it wasn't supporting my lifts (squat: 315 lbs).

u/VRSCDX · 2 pointsr/Fitness

If you can get ahold of a Oly bar and have a way to affix [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Body-Solid-Tools-TBR-10-T-Bar-Platform/dp/B002EEOOC0) to your floor....

u/UniStudRedditor · 2 pointsr/homegym

Recently picked up 2 cable pulleys from Archon - if you’ve been thinking about cable routines you should check them out!

Cable pulleys are super versatile tools I think every home gym should have.

ARCHON Single Pulley Cable Station https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0763DZ466?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Using 2 pulleys instead of 1 helps stabilize the weight plate

Of course you can also use both pulleys independently for crossovers, etc.

You can also link 2 pulleys together to change the pulley height.

I put one pulley on the pull up bar and the other around a J-hook. Lots of flexibility to get the exact heights you want.

For example in the pic below I’m using 2 pulleys linked together for high cable rows

Also, I’m pretty sure the Valor Fitness pulley is the same as the Archon one, either way really solid buy for the home gym.

These are the ones available for prime, Amazon Whitehouse deals was a seller you could choose instead of prime, still fulfilled by Amazon though. They do not seem to have any for the Lowe price currently but keep looking..it was 30$ at one point but I missed out because lazy.

u/ricecrsptreat · 1 pointr/StrongCurves

I have had this happen to me (although I haven't had the lingering tingling after) as well. I can definitely see it causing that, though. Getting a barbell pad like this one basically stopped it from happening for me. You need the cushion to take the compression off that area.

u/mrhorse77 · 1 pointr/Fitness

You could try using a T-bar and doing various landmine exercises.

I do some as a replacement for the OHP, and my wife has lower back issues and the landmine exercises allow her to do lots of exercises she cant do with the bar alone.

u/awwwyahh · 1 pointr/Fitness

Check out the valor BD-7! I got it for $440. It's a squat rack with a upper and lower pulley system. It also has dip attachments that are only $40. It's great quality and not a crazy price.

u/Scratchlax · 1 pointr/Sprinting

When you say it destroyed your shoulders, what was causing the problem?

One thing I've found is that getting a really high-quality squat pad (example: https://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Squat-Pad-Shoulder-Protective/dp/B01A86Z870/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1525177758&sr=8-4&keywords=squat+pad) can be a big help in reducing soft tissue bruising during squats. Your issue might be different, but this has been a big help for me.

u/putterbum · 1 pointr/homegym

Yea those hooks were a blessing for me. I adjust the barbell in the rack to be as high as I need and hook the dumbbells onto the barbell using them and then just lift/rack from there.

For the pulley I'm limited on space too so I had to go with something like this. I hook it up to the pullup bar on my rack but you can also put an eyelet bolt in your ceiling and hang it from there too. I put it away when I'm not using it. Been using it for about a month and all is well so far. Eventually I'll upgrade to an actual pulldown set up but for right now it's worth it for me.

u/tge101 · 1 pointr/homegym

I got this since it came with the handle. It was only $35 when I bought it though. Works fine on my FR rack.

I use the squat bar pads you can find on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/POWER-GUIDANCE-Barbell-Squat-Pad/dp/B01LYYFG1H?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_7 It's around $14 and I've never had an issue. Mine has lasted me about 2 years so far as well. Latest lift I had with it was 85kg. It comes with little velcro straps to keep it on the bar but I honestly just put the opening up away from my body and I don't have to use it. Best of luck!

u/StrikingCrayon · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

TL:DR: Would a squat pad like this one from amazon damage the form practise and learning of a newbie?

-----

Almost a month into the RR and my wife and I have both moved out of bodyweight squats and into using a 50 lbs. bar. While the weight is still challenging my legs the weight isn't a challenge for my wife's legs. She's having trouble balancing the bar on her shoulders without putting it up on her neck or supporting all the weight with her arms. After watching a bunch of form videos and then doing research on alternative bars it seems that her form is reasonable and that alternate bars are bad for beginners as you can learn bad form habits? It seems that she's just slender enough that there is very little of her back to rest the bar on. I'm thinking of buying something like this from amazon but I'm worried it could teach her bad form habits? It's surprising to both of us that when doing squats with some weight she is having more trouble holding the bar in place than actually doing the squat.

Thanks for any feed back.

u/dfleur11 · 1 pointr/xxfitness

This is the squat pad I use to do my hip thrusts and it is GOLD.

https://www.amazon.com/Barbell-Squat-Women-Perfect-Peach/dp/B071L4VYYP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1510948358&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=extra+thick+squat+pad&psc=1

Also, reverse hyper extensions and 45 degree hyper extensions, frog pumps (look on youtube or bret contreras for tutorial) switching it up and doing the same exercises but UNILATERALLY will also increase the level of difficulty in your leg day and make sure you stay strength/aesthetically balanced. Bret Contreras is the glute god so look into some of his posts.

Hey all I bought a bag that for the first time in my life fits my squat pad (16-17" maybe wide), work laptop (15"), work clothes, gym clothes, water bottle, books and stuff and it was beautiful! (It was that dagne dover landon carryall in the beautiful bay blue). I adore it--however, I'm returning it because it really hurts to carry all of that stuff on one shoulder! But now cramming everything in my old backpack again is sad--it works, but I can't fit the squat pad, not even a bit.

Does anyone have any backpack that can handle a daily commute + gym to office life (and ideally somehow has room for one of these?

u/a_very_good_username · 1 pointr/climbharder

In my opinion, gymnastic rings are more versatile than TRX straps, and can make you wicked strong all on their own. I bought two of these brackets brackets and drilled into the ceiling joists in my apartment to hang them up. They've been great so far, and I really have only scratched the surface of their usefulness.

I just saw this Power Company video about making it easy to exchange hangboards. Not sure what your plan is but it could be useful.

This setup (right down to the tension board) is something I've been dreaming up almost to the letter for months now - I want to see pictures when it's done! Sounds awesome

u/dude_thats_my_hotdog · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

A neck harness can be bought online for as low as 20 dollars or one could be diy'd for even cheaper. I personally own this one and have had no issues with it. I hang enough weight to do 20-30 reps from each angle (front, back, left and right sides). I've had no issues, no pain, and my neck actually feels incredible after like I just had a massage. It doesn't take a lot of weight, so if you don't have any plates, a backpack or grocery bag with books or whatever could suffice just as well.
