Gloves can actually weaken your grip.

>Gloves Kill Grip Strength - thicker bars are harder to grip. Gloves add inches to the bar which will kill your grip strength on pulling exercises like Deadlifts, Rows or Pullups. And if you can't hold it, you can't lift it.

Source

You should focus more on strengthening your grip. Buy one of these to help, but what I've heard of people doing is gripping the bar as hard as they can on every lift they do. Try to crush the bar in your hands when you squat, press, bench, all of that.

Why is chalk not allowed? They make clear chalk you can use for gyms that won't allow it. I think they sell it on amazon.

That and google "grip strength training". A lot of people have your same problem.

edit to add you can also try straps - although I wouldn't recommend this pair and you should do research on the best way to use them

Straps would be better to use than gloves.

So apparently I can put straps around my arms, lift less weight and make MORE gains?

600lb Deadlift here I come.

u/FuckESPN · 6 pointsr/Fitness

I literally just today got got some straps in from Amazon. Not sure I've ever heard of hooks, are straps comparable?

I couldn't give two shits less how many people on reddit shout "grip strength" - I'm basically working with 3 fingers on my left hand lol. People who are so fanatical about the small details miss the big picture, and I think this sub suffers greatly from that condition.

Edit: Went all dyslexic on the link formatting.

I like bike gloves for lifting because the area where normal lifting gloves end on my fingers are already extra susceptible to calluses and it's just painful when the fabric/skin difference is there.

straps have also been immensely helpful - you can wrap the bar the entire width of your hand without bumping up the thickness much.

haven't bought cobra grips yet but I fantasize about them periodically.

I have these for RDLs and I like them. They have some extra wrist padding and nonslip spots to keep from unwrapping too easily, but they still release quickly. Plus they’re super affordable.

ETA: I agree that it’s better not to use straps for standard deadlifts until you’ve already tried mixed grip or other grip configurations.

I have these. Do recommend.

I like using straps if I’m going to hang. Or using a captains chair. Investing in a pair of straps is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in terms of workout equipment. I found mine at Walmart but here’s something similar

I am a c5 complete.

You can use a pair of light ankle weights on the wrists for many different types of shoulder exercises. I do that, and I also have a set of resistance bands that I have mounted to my wall (https://www.amazon.com/CoreMount-Resistance-Training-Storage-Vertical/dp/B06WP6JX2V/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=Resistance+bands+wall+mount&qid=1562955373&s=sporting-goods&sr=1-6). You can use padded ankle cuffs (like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018Y6OQ56/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to attach the resistance bands to his wrists so that it doesn’t hurt your wrist as much when pulling on the bands. The key is to mount the resistance bands at the right height and get the right resistance set up. For me, once that was taken care of, I can now work out at any time by myself and do bicep curls, internal/external shoulder rotation, rows, stretch my shoulders, etc. I can roll up to my bands and get the wrist cuff over my hand and then use my mouth to tighten the wrist cuff above or below the big wrist bone depending on what exercise I am doing (closer to the hand for bicep curls, internal/external rotation, stretching & further up the arm above the wrist bone for most all other workouts so it doesn’t feel like my hands are going to pop off.

I don’t know if this is the information that you are looking for, but maybe it may give you some ideas to try for his case. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I bought these lifting straps a while ago specifically for the later sets of hanging exercises and things like shrugs when I felt my grip was giving out before the targeted muscle group. I can't guarantee that they would help with knuckles but they do make it so you don't have to rely 100% on your grip. Also, they are really well made for being $5 so it might be worth a shot. Good luck

Look up some grip strength techniques. Try some straps like these to help you fatigue your back in the meantime

These dark iron fitness straps are really solid, I've seen other people at the gym with them too. Nice and thick with padding. I'd say the suede would be more durable.

Found myself carrying more and more things in my gym bag as time goes on...

Romaleos, hook grip sleeves and ace wraps for knees depending on mood, Valeo belt, these straps I got on black friday for cheapsies, athletic tape for 4ever bruised thumbs

u/Jason_DeHoulo · 1 pointr/powerlifting

I had the same thing until I switched from regular straps to a padded (rubberized) strap. I think the rubber compresses a bit which takes some of the weight off of my wrists. I actually have an easier time holding on to heavier weights with these as well compared to regular straps.

405lbs 5x15 shrugs and my wrists are feeling great with these guys.

Try a set of hanging straps like these if your grip is the limiting factor. Continue to work your grip in other ways though.https://www.amazon.com/DMoose-Fitness-Straps-Pack-Exerciser/dp/B07778X7S2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1538486405&sr=8-4

Hi. 3-month-long fighter here. So my local group was cool enough to have loaner gear, which is what I used when I just started. It fit poorly and really slowed me down, so I bought my own gear pretty fast.

I spent about $1k, but if I had scrimped a bit I could have gotten it down to $500, maybe less.

The helmet is the most expensive piece. I got mine from ironmonger
A lot of my gear is hockey gear, from hockeymonkey.com. I wear it under a set of ratty garb-esque clothes I bought off a much larger friend.

Get a heavy hockey girdle and hockey knee/shinpads pads. For chest protection the cheapest armor I've seen with good protection is motocross or motorcycle armor, though I actually made a wisby-style coat of plates myself, using pickle-barrel plastic. A lot of people I know use hockey chest/shoulder protectors from hockey monkey, usually along with other rigid protection on the torso. I also wear a padded kidney belt. For chest armor, maybe something like this. I once fought with a guy who wore stuff like this. He said the big weak spot was the sides of the ribcage. He actually strapped a few padded pickel-barrel plates there. You're also going to want to add some rigid elbow cops, maybe bokalo.

A lot of it is cobbled together and may require modification. I bolted a set of bokalo aluminum cops to my knee/shinpads (just to give my knees a bit better protection), and added a few plastic lames to cover my lower thigh / top of my knee a bit better.

If you really really need cheap, dark victory sells a really cheap suit of armor. But you get what you pay for. It's uncomfortable, hot, and restricts movement. I'm using a heavily modified set of their elbow cops and demi gaunts (I covered them in leather, did some reshaping and cutting, and added thumb guards to the demi's).

for deadlift i use weight lifting straps. http://www.amazon.com/Weight-Lifting-Straps-Cotton-PAIR/dp/B002SKMXL4

This forces your wrist and hand to be doing the work. I don't have any pinching problems like your talking about.
