That's sebum, or the same oil that's produced by everybody for skin and hair. Ever the smell is normal. The amount you're producing isn't normal.

Now, ideally you'd go to a dermatologist, figure out exactly why it's over producing and get treated. That's really the best choice because they can figure out not only the root cause, but have a wider range of treatment options than you can get over the counter. And since there's several dangerous conditions that can cause it (like the already mentioned kidney issues that give had checked out), you really should see a specialist asap, just to be safe. Combined with the other scent you mention in your breath, I'd lean towards an endocrine imbalance of some kind, but I'm not a doctor, so go see one.

Now, I gotta warn you that unless you're in your twenties or older, there's a good chance it's just temporary from hormonal shifts that occur during puberty. Yeah, you're out of high school based on what you said, but puberty doesn't always finish at graduation. It's very common for it to last as late as the mid twenties, though it's tapering off before that. It's also possible that this is just the level your body produces and you'll have to adjust to it. Regardless of the cause, there are a few things that can help deal with it in the meanwhile.

First, invest in baby wipes and some sandwich bags. Carry a dozen or so in a bag and wipe down during the day until you get a proper diagnosis. If you get the kind with aloe, it's possible your skin will stay moisturized enough that you get less oil production.

For your face and hair, they make these specialty oil absorbing wipes. this is the brand I used to use as an example. You can use them on your hair too, but it gets expensive since they're small.

You may want to change soaps as well. A good moisturizing soap, followed by a low oil lotion after bathing can reduce oil production. I can't really make a recommendation about brands, but if you start with the stuff like cetaphil that's designed for acne, I think you'll find a brand that works for you quicker. A lot of the time, excess oil comes from stripping the skin oil off but not replacing it with anything.

For the scent, I'd try increasing my fruit intake first. Pineapple, apples, citrus first since they tend to change scents of the body faster than others.

Now, I have to again say that I'm not a doctor, and you really need to make sure there's nothing bad underlying as a cause just to be safe. I'm only trying to give you what worked for me until you can get that done, so don't just assume I'm saying it's just because of hormones or whatever, I'm not. I'm saying there's dozens of potential causes that need to be ruled out eventually.

I love my e.l.f powder brush more than any of my other brushes, period. It's the perfect size and the flat top makes it so easy to control the amount of powder I use. It's $4.99 on Amazon but I bought it in Target for $3

btw these are the blotting papers on amazon (no referral link I promise), takes me about 6 months to go through 200

They make silicone makeup applicators like this https://www.amazon.com/Sano-Naturals-Silicone-Makeup-Sponge/dp/B01N2TN98U (there are many more options) that might be a better option. You won't have to touch your face and no worry about water degrading or the applicator absorbing any of your ss.

I've cosplayed Marcaline and had my (ex)bf do Marshal Lee so I can definitely help!
Snazaroo Grey Face Paint for all over color. You get a cheapie Foundation brush and dip it lightly in water, then brush the paint, then paint cho face!
The makeup you cannot buy traditional powder makeup and use face paint with. It's difficult to get it to go on evenly and doesn't blend AT ALL. I would suggest contouring with another face paint like pale blue
The two eye products used in the video look to be a cream eyeliner in black
and Blue liquid liner

I am not too sure about the cause, but I can recommend you to get these Oil-absorbing sheets. These are magical at temporarily wiping your oily skins.

u/terberter6669 路 6 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Sure thing! Step-by-step, comin' at you.

  1. Make sure area is clean and dry. Put face moisturizer on it and let it soak in.
  2. Put primer on, not just on the marks but all over the area. This is actually an important step because sweat and clothing are going to be working against you all day so having primer on there will help the makeup adhere to your skin mo' betta. And it'll just look smoother.
  3. Put a color-correcting concealer on. I used green, but yellow would probably also work (green cancels out red tones, yellow cancels out purple). Put the color correcting concealer ONLY on the marks, not the surrounding skin (aside from a little bit of blending so the edges aren't too sharp). I used this flat foundation brush, but fingers might work as well.
  4. Put on your normal, skin-tone concealer. Apply this directly on top of the color correcting one, and also into the surrounding areas to blend it. I used this brush to stipple it on. She can look up youtube videos of how to stipple, but it's basically just bouncing the product onto your skin.
  5. Brush on a thin layer of translucent powder. This helps set the first layer of concealer so that you can pile on more layers without them muddying or blending together, since you want to create a layer effect and not a puddle of concealer. I used this powder and this brush to do so. Any translucent powder and large brush will do the trick!
  6. Repeat step #4!
  7. Then repeat step #5!
  8. Use your normal foundation and stipple brush for a final layer that should be pretty seamless with the rest of your skin.
  9. I chose to do a final layer of translucent powder, but that's because I live in Southern California and it's hot and I need to be prepared for the gym. I'm sweating a lot of the time. She could probably go without.

    Good luck!

Only one thing has ever gotten my beauty blenders and various other sponges 100% clean and stain-free: Daiso Puff Sponge Detergent. If you have a Daiso near you, you can pick it up for I think a little cheaper than Amazon, but it鈥檚 like $12 for 3 bottles anyway, and they last forever.

Depends on what she already has, but if she doesn't have any of the following, she might like it.

u/blackesthearted 路 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Yep, there are other ways to avoid using one鈥檚 hands. I decant most things into smaller jars (that I can clean and re-use), and one could use a tiny spoon or spatula (think the spoon that comes with TO鈥檚 L-AA powder) to scoop out product onto one鈥檚 hand or the bowl of a measuring spoon (how I apply liquid products). I do use one finger to apply things but one could use something like a silicone makeup sponge instead (not a beauty blender, more like this.

Instead of Q-tips I like to use these foam makeup wedges with my rubbing alcohol. They leave nothing behind unlike the small bits of cotton that a Q-tip leaves.

My Japanese students introduced me to oil blotting face papers.

These babies gently lift the oil while leaving any product like sunscreen or makeup still on the skin. Almost all of my Japanese ladies carried a pack and they came out like clockwork after lunch and after the workday was done. I received a pack as a gift (Shiseido as I recall) 20 years ago and never looked back!

u/atranscouple 路 3 pointsr/asktransgender

Start with these three simple things:

  1. Liquid Foundation (https://www.amazon.com/Maybelline-New-York-Foundation-Packaging/dp/B001Q8568G/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1466479185&sr=1-3&keywords=liquid+foundation)

  2. A brush to apply the Liquid Foundation (https://www.amazon.com/EcoTools-1202-Flat-Foundation-Brush/dp/B001KYVOJQ/ref=sr_1_13_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1466479200&sr=1-13&keywords=liquid+foundation+brush)

  3. A powder foundation (https://www.amazon.com/Maybelline-New-York-Poreless-Porcelain/dp/B00PFCSNWK/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1466479234&sr=1-1&keywords=powder+foundation) and this includes a pad brush inside of it.

You apply the (1) liquid foundation to your face very evenly with (2) the brush (especially around your eyes) and then 'set' it with the (3) powder foundation by just tapping it all around your face until you can't see any of the shine from the liquid foundation anymore. Good luck!! And welcome to the makeup club; you're in for life. :P

P.S. it's called a 'foundation' because it's meant to cover up your whole face and make it look perfect. Once you get good at this, you can move on to more fun things but this will make you look nice :)
u/buttercult 路 3 pointsr/brownbeauty

You don't really need to replace your brushes if they aren't raggedy and falling apart or shedding. If you're cleaning and taking care of them regularly t hey should be absolutely fine to keep.

That being said, I think the Elf Studio brushes and Eco tools are great.

This is my favorite foundation brush of all time: http://www.amazon.com/e-l-f-Studio-Powder-Brush-elf/dp/B002B4GGUG

I've replaced them a few times to be honest because it starts shedding after about a year but I love everything about how this brush is designed and how it works. You can really control the amount of coverage, stipple, blend. It works with all textures of foundation from cream to liquid to powder. Love it. 6 bucks!

u/Coco92144 路 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I got this one from Amazon. My word doesn't matter so much because I don't have a real BeautyBlender to compare it to, but for $5.50 and numerous reviews that say they're exactly the same why not? I like mine. I don't use it very often, but it does blend well if I ever use foundation instead of BB cream.

u/strwbrry_fields 路 3 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

Here are pictures of my entire brush collection, my favorite brushes and a bonus pic of my first brushes!

I got my first brushes from one of those Free Ulta Beauty Bags you get with a $15 or so ulta purchase. I haven't used them in ages, and I can't believe how rough they are!

My holy grail brush would probably be This ecotools beauty. I want to start learning how to use blush, so i'd like a brush just for blush!

  1. Get rice paper blotting tissues, something like this (it doesn't have to be that one, but I know a lot of people like it). This will gently absorb the oil without drying out your skin. You can keep them in your purse and use them throughout the day.

  2. African black soap is harsh and drying. You should switch to a more gentle cleanser. Here is the sub's cleanser recs. Here is the "Holy Grail" thread for cleansers. It may sound counter-intuitive, but you might also consider doing the oil cleansing method.

    > tea tree oil on pimples

  3. Make sure you dilute tea tree oil before applying it. It's pretty irritating to skin.

    > I'm allergic to salicylic acid

  4. Always check your ingredients, it's sometimes in stuff you wouldn't expect. Avoid any BHAs, iirc they're all related.
u/iamnotanartist 路 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I use this one. Its angled and fluffy so I can "shape" the blush well and blend it out too.

u/flargle_queen 路 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Just take a big fluffy brush, get a little black matte eye shadow, and lightly dust it from the top of your ear down towards the corner of your mouth. I also apply a little bit more black shadow up by my ear and blend it down lightly.

I actually use this Elf Brush. It's loosely packed so it picks up just a little product, and it works fabulously. It's also like a dollar. Lol

I use a thick, wet sponge (Trader Joe's brand to be specific) to wipe off the lather/stubble and then use the sponge to wipe up water around the sink area. I try to change out the sponge every month but I am sure in the meantime it is a cesspool of bacteria but it's never bothered my face.

If I am away from home I use a washcloth rolled up into a log so that it has some cushion when wiping off the blade.

I would advice against rinsing the blade under a running tap. I am sure many here do that and never had trouble but I personally wouldn't risk it because of the chance of getting water up into the pivot area which will be hard to dry and susceptible to rust and also possibly dinging the blade against the sink/tap and chipping the edge.

I'm going to second the stipple sponge and cream makeup. That way is the easiest imo.

I have also done the mascara wand beard, I used the mascara with fibers and that seemed to do okay.

My favorite way but also the most time consuming and uncomfortable is the spirit gum and crepe wool. The key here is to cut the crepe wool really really fine. I usually outline where I want it with eyeliner and then fill in little by little.
Be careful if you have sensitive skin and use either an actual remover or baby oil when it comes time to take it off.

A cigarette paper will absorb liquid, and that's what double-reed players use it for.

United States paper currency will absorb liquid more slowly, but they are sort of sticky and sort of slick as the ink will slightly transfer to a clean piece of paper. They're strong enough (made with silk) to be able to pull a minute amount of gunk off of the pad.

A longer-lasting cure for stickiness is "powder paper", which is hideously expensive (but cheaper than an emergency visit to your tech) from Yamaha. It is the same as powder paper for makeup according to a friend who examined my Yamaha powder paper.

The ecotools brush I have is this one and it's just very large. Like it's good if I want to do an overall bronzing, but not if I wan't to contour/bronze. Maybe I'm just using it wrong.

That makes sense for the saikoho brushes, thank you! I guess I want a concentrated picking up of product, which to me means a smaller, denser brush, not one that necessarily floofs out all over the place. The J531 looks nice too!

Happy Early Birthday! :) Sounds like a great day you have planned!

My birthday is usually a pretty low key event, and I'm OK with it. I'm usually guaranteed a Lemon Meringue pie and a home-cooked meal of my choice (usually Tuna Noodle Casserole, which I'm also totally OK with). I really can't say anything could be more ideal than that, for me anyways :)

I do have a somewhat random story to share...I share a birthday with a certain mammal that checks for shadow once a year. One of my family/friends usually does something with it....like one year I got a cake delivered to school with a large picture of a groundhog on it. Last year my Mom sent me flowers to work, with a large card just reading "Happy Groundhogs Day!". One of my co-workers finally broke down and asked me why I got flowers for groundhogs day, and if I thought it was normal!

If I won I would love to try this! Thanks for hosting! :)

Good job there! Here some improvement tips to make it look smoother:
You can use this board as bases or even building material, it works really well! I've just got at a stopping point of my first scenery pieces: http://imgur.com/a/EuGXa
Super easy, just the board, PVA glue and some pins to hold it in place while it dries. Is about 90% complete, just some touch ups left. But you get the idea. The possibilities are endless, sometimes you just need to see someone doing and go from there!
P.S.
The wedges he uses in the video, for the base of the tank, are here. I've picked mine up at walgreens for a couple of dollars. They look a little nicer than the styrofoam, since it's all bubbly. So maybe look for some things that still work, but give you the ability to work with better! Still, I am super happy that you actually ended up building that!

Sorry for the delay in replying! So I got the brushes from this link: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I3VHKVK/ and this link: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EWBYUDU/ for a great variety of basic eye and face brushes. Paid about 16 bucks total, and that should still be the price! The bristles on the first set are so dense that I needed a separate dusting brush for brushing off loose powder/finishing my foundation beat, and luckily i already had one. If you don't, this one looks excellent: https://smile.amazon.com/EcoTools-Sustainable-Materials-Synthetic-Packaging/dp/B001KYVLSU/

As far as wigs are concerned, I look at wigs marketed to both white women and women of color, since they both have different, excellent attributes. If you want something silky and smooth that you can style yoursef, do a search for K'ryssma wigs and pay attention to the reviews! I got this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJ3BGJC/, and it was gorgeous. Needed some work on the hairline (I plucked out some of the hair from the lace so the hairline looked more natural). K'ryssma wigs are machine made and come in a wide range of styles. The one I got had a LOT of hair, which was great! I was looking for a base wig to stack on and style myself, so the straight/slightly wavy style was perfect for me.

Many of the wigs for black women's hair have phenomenal texture (like straightened kinky hair) which gives them great body and fullness. Not as much movement, but not everyone needs that! The one I got for myself was the NEESHA wig (tons of YouTube reviews! this one is very popular) at this link:https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B3GZTBO/. Haven't tried to stye it yet, and the lace is quite stiff/hard but this wig has a TON of hair.

BEFORE YOU BUY A WIG decide if you are going to try to style it yourself or if you need one that's mostly good right out of the box. That way you can avoid ending up with a wig you can't use without buying a ton of other styling products. Check out onlinekyne on YouTube--he has a ton of styling and baby queen tutorials, and isn't so experienced that his stuff is intimidating to watch. I also watch Mr. Villberg's wig transformation tutorials for ideas.

That's all I have time for now, but I will try to get back to you later today with more info! Best of luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!

u/Yourstruly0 路 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I've actually taken to applying mine with the type of sponge that comes in Korean BB Cushions because it gives that airbrush finish but they're dry!

Are you using a patting motion? I'm imaging if you rubbed over the powder it would cause textural issues. This may be weirdly in depth but methods of application are so important to final results and I think that's often overlooked. Newcomers want to know why they bought all the right things but their results are subpar, but they're, like, rubbing big blobs into their skin very roughly. :p

Also, you don't look sparkly at all! I never would've guessed that's the illuminating formula.

I would think it wouldn't eat up much product since the puffs don't absorb much? Pretty sure people aren't using the cushion - just the puff applicator like this: https://www.amazon.com/Meme-Puff-Set-pcs-MEMEBOX/dp/B00UW85WC6

back when my face was oily (once I passed 30, it turned from super oily to super dry) I used to mix my foundation with sunblock, a kind of DIY tinted moisturizer. I felt like the light application kept my face makeup from sliding off my face and into creases. I also avoided pressed/loose powder on most occasions. Instead, I opted for Palladio rice papers. I prefer the translucent ones personally, they match pretty much all skin tones. (I am super pale, and my bff back then was filipina. We used to split a pack of these...we were broke)
