+1 on that.

Right now on Amazon you can get lockable plastic ammo boxes for as little as $5 (if you buy other items so total order is $25), or a slightly larger one for $14

Or you could look for an used Army Surplus model made of steel at a place like sportsmansguide.com for $10-$15 plus shipping.

Then get a lock for it.

I'm gonna try to break down most of the places you could save weight, as well as give you an idea of dollars per ounce saved for each item so you can figure out the best place to focus your available budget.

  • Your pack is pretty heavy. Something like the Osprey Exos 48 will cost around $180 and weighs ~40 oz. That'll save you ~20.8 oz at about $8.65 per oz.

  • Your bag is also heavy, as you have pointed out. As /u/schmuckmulligan pointed out, a HG Burrow Econ 20 would save you weight for added warmth. I would recommend a wide width, since HG quilts are narrower since they are aimed at hammock sleepers. A $170 wide will save you ~16.9 oz at about $10.06 per oz. You could also consider a HG Burrow Econ 30, which will save you more weight, and will be cheaper.

  • The $215 24 oz Lunar Solo from Six Moon Designs would save you ~23.3 oz at about $9.23 per oz. If you don't have a trekking pole, they also sell lightweight poles to support the shelter.

  • $15 Frogg Toggs will save you ~6 oz at about $2.50 per oz.

  • You can drop the extra shirt and the extra underwear for a free savings of ~7.8 oz. A lot of people will just wear the same shirt and underwear for the duration of their trips.

  • A 14$ ThruNite Ti3 will save you ~2.7 oz at about $5.19 per oz. The NiteCore Thumb is also a good option with similar weight savings. I discussed the differences between the two in this comment in a thread yesterday.

  • You can save ~1.1 oz for free by dropping the Iodine Tablets. The Sawyer is good enough, and won't make your water taste bad.

All in all, everything here will save you ~78.6 oz or almost 5 lbs. Obviously, don't take anything I or anyone else says as perfect for you. If having extra clothes makes your hike a lot better, then I don't think the weight savings is worth it.

    Hope this helps!

Tackle Boxes are AWESOME I like Plano, you can write them and they'll send you a bunch of extra dividers for free if you like.

They're great for bits and for model carriage and they're super cheap. Stick a bit of foam in the compartment and it's padded.

They're also compatible with stuff like these! If you have one of those you can use it for carrying armies. Since the boxes are interchangeable you can even keep the armies apart in specific boxes making it easier to carry only what you need.

However if you want to carry bits it may be worth gluing the divider down so they don't move and so your organization doesn't get ruined by bits crawling from one square to the other.

Works like a yo yo. Too bad it's illegal here or I'd try it to see how it works in moving and still water

Edit: 6 Mechanical Fisher's Yo Yo Fishing Reels -Package of 1/2 Dozen- Yoyo Fish Trap -(FLAT TRIGGER MODEL) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ASP3YZK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_K7SRzbS0ZVRVB

u/razielsoulreaver · 8 pointsr/natureismetal

Looks like a YoYo mechanical fisher. I don't know about other states, but in Louisiana we have these fishing rigs called YoYos that you hang in trees and run a baited line into the water. When a fish takes the bait, the YoYo automatically reels it in.

I actually used this Shakespeare travel rod a few weeks ago on a 3-day backpacking/fishing trip in the White Mountains, NH. It is a 6'6" rod which breaks into 6 pieces, costs less than $15, and comes with a lightweight plastic rod tube. All you need is a cheap reel (<$20) and you're all set.

u/StrangerMind · 6 pointsr/Survival

Number 1 - Wear your life jacket/vest/whatever! It does little good if it is not on you.

Get a Sawyer MINI Water Filter. When used in conjunction with a chemical cleaner like iodine or chlorine dioxide tablets it will make your water safe on the move. It will keep you from having to pack a ton of water or boiling a lot every night/morning. It will pay for its self fairly quickly if you were planning on buying water. Not useful for salt water though.

Fishing could be useful if you slow down. Fishing while moving in a strong current is a waste of time. 1 rod per person only. A small basic fishing kit with small jigs for pan fish and maybe larger spinnerbaits or crank baits for larger fish. You should be able to stop and replace things easily enough so keep it small. Another option is a Yoyo Reel (or several). You can place them overnight and have a good fish breakfast in the morning (if you catch a fish). I really wish I had some of these on my canoe trips when I was younger since I only have luck catching fish when I dont need it. I have no idea about fishing coastal waters since I have little experience with it.

Dry Bags that will save your gear and float if you tip over are a must.

A Satellite phone if you can afford one could be your real life saver.

If the river/creek is flooded after heavy of rain. Get out and stay out for a while. There will be a lot more debris than normal and the risk of a puncture or flipping is a lot greater. That is on top of faster/crazy currents.

Carry smaller, useful items on you. Fire starter, knife, signal whistle. It is certainly a possibility you could tip and lose most or all of your gear and you want some basics.

Avoid fog in coastal areas or even around larger rivers. Larger boats will probably never see you or hear you to stop in time especially on the ocean.

Coastal canoeing is a lot different and I have no real experience with it. (if you could not tell) Waves, tides, and wind would make it a lot different.

There really are a hundred possible things to say but just try and use common sense. If it seems dangerous and you dont have to do it.... dont!

u/MerryChoppins · 5 pointsr/BackYardChickens

It might seem mall ninja, but get a spear. A few companies make simple ones that have a handle you can replace with a farm store tool handle when it inevitably breaks.

I have one of these with a shovel handle and better screws and it’s good for removing the uncaged raccoons that try and turn my back door knob, groundhogs, moles, possums, etc.

Aim for center mass, don’t be squeamish. It’s less cruel than a gun if you get the heart or sever the spinal cord on a subsequent blow.

u/boarlizard · 5 pointsr/homedefense

Paint balls would be useless. Firearms would be ideal. Stun batons and stun guns are useless too. Tasers are alright but just as expensive as guns. Pepper spray is what you should aim for...and it may sound silly, but find some type of long spear (cold steel makes them for cheap) something for extreme situations that can keep you farther away than machetes and bats.

EDIT: something like this, https://www.amazon.com/Cold-Steel-Assegai-Spear-Short/dp/B004YWK74E/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1466991836&sr=8-5&keywords=spear

That first video seems super specific in its use case. I can't think of any waterways in the Northeast where it'd work.

That second one has promise but seems inferior to just using a net trap in a river.

I also bought mechanical auto fishers.

Their illegal in most states so I haven't tried them (or even taken them out of the package). But they're legal in Louisiana I think. You set them up, bait em, and come back in a few hours or a day. It sets the hook with the spring and holds em in place for ya.

Decent SHTF tool I feel.

But a net and a river is where I'd put my bets over the plastic trap in the second video.

But then, all knowledge is good. So it's at least good info to have, "just in case".

u/howmaywehelpyou · 4 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

I bought a tackle box for super cheap at walmart and gave it a good clean. I little bulky but It fits everything I need very well.

u/icepyrox · 4 pointsr/XWingTMG

Right now it looks like everything should fit into the core set boxes.

As for future: the Plano 1374 is so popular that the top reviews on Amazon are all about X-wing.

In a similar vein, I use the 732 which has 3 3700 trays (like the 1374 which has 4), but then 2 3600 trays (which are a little smaller, and I use for tokens and misc stuff).

I also have this version of the plano 5321 for tournaments. They also make a double sided version which I have also used before realizing it's a bit much (because I already had the 732). I still pack it for weekend vacations or hangar bay tournaments when I want to carry multiple lists, but not all my stuff.

u/Madnapali · 3 pointsr/zombicide

Definitely keep them separate. I have a full collection, and sounds like you do, too. In a large Plano tackle box I keep the things that are shared between games, such as dice, dice tower, paper, etc. The rest of the stuff is split into file boxes per game, and I put the trays of figurines into the tacklebox for travel.

https://www.amazon.com/Plano-732-Extreme-Tackle-System/dp/B009JG53S0

You can get spare trays just about anywhere that sells fishing gear. Happy storing!

Here's a copy paste of my old comment, take from it what helps you

I'll try to be brief as possible. Also, I'm not sure your experience level, so I apologize if I go over things that are obvious to you.

Basically you need to be aiming for Spanish Mackerel. They are a fucking blast to fish for.

Your set-up will work fine. These fish only get up to around 8-12 pounds, 15 if you're (extremely) lucky. But, bank on your catches being 8-12 pounds (closer to 8).

What you need:

Leader. You'll need to tie 40 or 50 pound monofilament line to your main line. Spanish have razor sharp teeth and will bite off smaller line. I'll go over later how to tie leader to main line. You can just buy the cheap mono line. I keep both 40# and 50# with me. I'll use 40# first, and if I get bit off 2 times, I switch to 50#. But, no need to spend too much money, just grab a spool of 40 or 50 pound. Worth noting, Spanish have eyes of a hawk and can easily be spooked away from lure, that's why I try with 40# first. So, it's a gamble of getting hooked up/ getting bit off between 40 and 50#. I suggest 40#

Lure: Gotcha plugs. Seriously, That's the only lure you need. Spanish love them. You'll also catch other things such as blue runners and possibly king mackerels. Get them at the local walmart down there in Destin (as well as your other fishing needs) prices online are a little high, and walmart has the best prices (believe it or not). Like I said ealier, get about 5 per person, as you will get bit off. But different colors; sometimes spanish will wanna strike white body/ yellow head, where as the next they want gold body/orange head. They also come in metal body and plastic body. I suggest getting both. In the picture of the gotcha plug above i linked is a gold body/ orange head/ metal body, I highllly suggest that, that is my go-to gotcha plug.

You said you already had line, but I suggest getting 12-20lb braided line. Braided line casts far and has better response.

Pliers. Last thing you want is a Spanish biting your finger. Have some pliers so you can pull the hook out of its mouth.

a big cooler. You may want to rent a cooler cart at the pier. It's a hassle to carry a cooler to the end of the pier, and then back full of ice and fish. bring a long cooler with you

food drinks. don't waste 20 minutes of good fishing by having to walk to the front desk to buy a $4 coke and $3 snickers bar, have that shit with you.

Get to the pier before sun break. You want to be on the pier, in your fishing spot ~15 minutes before the sun comes up. As of today, 6:19 AM is sunrise for Destin, FL. So, you want to be walking on the pier to the spot at like 6:05am. Spanish run early in the morning to about 12pm and then head back to deeper water (they return a few hours before sundown, when the water cools off). Can't stress this enough, be there before sunrise.

Here is a video on how to tie your mono leader to your main line.

When you get to the pier, you'll see other guys out there fishing for Spanish, you'll know where to be. generally it's somewhere in the middle of the pier. Just keep an eye on the other guys and watch where they fish and how they do it. When you cast the gotcha, you'll retrieve it fast with somewhat of a jerk here and there.

So, to recap, hopefully put 12-20lb braid on your rig. Tie with uni-knot 40-50lb mono leader to you main line. Tie gotcha plug to leader (no swivels or anything, just line tied to line tied to lure). be in middle of pier before sunrise. Cast as far as you can, retrieve lure fast with some jerking.

Oh, and when you leave the pier, wash your poles off with the water hose at the entrance to the pier. Especially with your gear that is not designed for saltwater. Saltwater is very corrosive and will lock your reel up if not washed off your reel when done. But, don't wash the reel too much and clean the lubricant inside of it. Just a simple wash will do.

extra: while you're at walmart, get a lure called a sabiki rig. looks like this or this (get sabiki brand, not cheap stuff) Tie to your line, and add a weight to the end. Go near a pilling and drop it to the very bottom, then real up a few cranks and manually bring your pole up and down (tip of pole going up and down about 4 foot). It's always good fun to catch 4-5 fish at the same time. Most of the time it's fish you throw back, but fun none the less. If you were fishing for King mackerel you would do this to catch live bait. You'll see the Korean people on the pier doing this

Most importantly, have fun. If you take my advice, you're bound to have fun! I'll be in Panama city here in about a week and will be fishing non-stop. update me with some pictures of fish!

edit: Here is the gear I suggest for Saltwater fishing from pier (with capabilities of surf fishing)

Pole: Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2

Reel: Penn Battle II 4000

Line: Power Pro Braided Fishing Line 20lb/300yards I use moss green. Color choice is up to you. High vidiabilty colors (yellow for example) do help when fishing on a crowded pier. People can see where you are casted at. Helps reduce hook ups with other fisherman.

I spent about five months last year trying to figure out the Riddle of the Underwater Cache and I couldn't come up with anything that would meet all of my criteria. Your problems for the container are going to be buoyancy, entropy, water-tightness, thermal expansion/contraction, environmental damage, (in)visibility, and water height differences. I'm not saying it's impossible; with all of that in mind it's certainly possible to build an underwater cache given certain restrictions and limitations. But it's something that you're going to have to constantly babysit with regular maintenance runs every other month or so, and likely container replacements at least once per year (especially if the cache will be in an area that freezes over in the winter).

If you want to give it a go, the closest I got was two options. One is to embrace the water; don't try for a watertight cache. Get a scuba notebook and pencil and use that as the log, put them in a mesh bag or something. The other is to use a marine dry box that you've weighted down by pouring concrete into the bottom. In either case you'll still need to tether the container to something so it doesn't float or get dragged away. But neither option is perfectly reliable.

If you can get away with it in your theme, another option is to find a small natural waterfall and build/hide the cache in such a way that it's hidden behind/inside the waterfall. Move a couple of rocks around to create a void, then disguise your (strong watertight) container to look like those rocks and slide it in. I'm actually planning one of these right now. :-)

Do you own everything?

I use the Plano tackle box, DVD case, and Card binder storage solution and it works really well.

so another user posted this except for he linked the wrong storage box. Ill link the storage box that would work for it all. If you paint minis then i would suggest possibly felt/foam lining the plano storage boxes. This really is a great way to store the game.
Pie in the sky way to store everything: For map tiles: AmazonBasics Nylon CD/DVD Wallet (128 Capacity) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DIHVM36/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_xF79DSJicfLBu

For agenda cards and mission cards: Ultra Pro 25/9 Pocket Page Protectors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005HIOVOG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_UjgMybSN3F7RS
Putting them in a binder lets you more easily find a specific card they fit in these sheets even with card sleeves. I bought a nice binder that has slip sleeves in it so that I can store all the rules and skirmish/mission pamphlets along with the sleeved card sheets. The CD case holds any tile 4 spaces wide I keep the larger tiles separate and was able to fit every expansion in the CD case.

I used to have a crappy $12.99 tacklebox from walmart. It sucked.

Before my last fishing trip, I switched to my old backpack with 3 of these
http://www.amazon.com/Flambeau-Outdoors-5007-Tuff-Tainer/dp/B000EDTS1A stuffed inside.

Its AWESOME. It fits all of my lures, I can sort them way easier, I have enough room to bring along everything I need, and my hands are free for walking down steep trails to get to the water.

I also got a smaller double sided one. One side is weights, the other is hooks.

Its a really nice setup and I'm really happy with it.

u/cheffrey · 2 pointsr/WildernessBackpacking

I see everyone fly fishing. I use a shakespeare rod and a daiwa reel. All you need is 10# test and a hand size tackle box with flys , hooks, weights, and lures. All in all about 8oz. The best is waking up and catching nightcrawlers and heading down to the lake or creek. You'll catch anything with those. I have a bunch of joes flys b/c you can get hung up on the bottom a lot when you're deep out there. Make sure you have the right licenses when fishing in that area. I only cook bluegill when I catch them, if they are the size of my hand or bigger. Those should be the only fish in abundance. Always catch and release trout and bass unless you are stuck out there and in survival mode. Maybe bring a hobo meal with you. Vegetables covered in olive oil salt and pepper wrapped in foil. You can open it up and place in the fire. Remember always kill the fish before you cook it. The fish has to be past a certain phase of rigor mortis before you eat it. And have fun.

u/SideWhereIAdmitMySex · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Yep, I'm looking at my tackle box right now. I have this one (you can also get it in cute colors if that's what you crave) and it's very convenient, I'm pretty sure that it's the only reason my makeup survived my move. I have a small nine-square lipstick holder to stash the stuff I use regularly on my bathroom counter, but everything else fits really nicely in my tackle box. I was trying to find a train case when I bought it - Got fed up at the cost for really cheesy stuff in ugly patterns and stalked back to sporting goods. Much better.

u/coffeesalad · 2 pointsr/Ultralight

You can buy the top and bottom off amazon.ca for about $30 CAD. No need to go to the states.

u/TheLatexCondor · 2 pointsr/flyfishing

I bought this combo from Wild Water for my beginner setup, and it did the job. I learned how to cast and caught quite a few fish. I've since upgraded, but I keep it around as a backup.

It may not have the backbone for throwing big bass flies, but I think they offer a 7/8 wt starter combo as well. For $94 it served me pretty well. The fly line is decent. The reel isn't great, but that's the least important part for a new fly fisher anyway. It holds line and has a functioning drag, and you don't need much more than that.

u/dunicus · 2 pointsr/bassfishing

If you're insane, then I guess I am as well. I'm a shore fisherman and pack a similar variety, but I carry three colors each: junebug/black, green pumpkin, watermelon candy for worms/creatures/craws; white, shad (silver two-tone) and some kind of bluegill imitator for flukes and swimbaits. I'm able to fit it all in a backpack, along with 2-3 3600 sized boxes, line spools, tools, etc., and it gets to about 16 pounds total. I keep all of the soft plastics in the top compartment in their own bags except for Keitechs, which I put in a binder. Presumably this size of bag would work in a kayak.

I couldn't agree more on having something like paracord. I also wrap about 6 feet of duct tape on itself (so its small). However, on the paracord issue I have found something that I think is better.

this stuff is great and lighter and its also much thinner and more concealable for traps and boundary warnings.

For storage, I use sets of fishing tackle boxes - the Plano ones are usually set up with individual trays with separable compartments, letting her set it up how she wants for rings she keeps a lot/little of.

Something like this works really well for storing a working set of rings, and then you can store tools and stuff in the top.

You should probably stop using FrogLube and switch to something like G96 (supposedly works at -50F) or Break-Free CLP (the U.S. military says that it's fine to use in temperatures above -10F) if you don't want to worry about reliability problems in cold weather. If you want to keep using FrogLube, then I recommend wiping off all of the excess lubricant after you finish applying it. Also, you should make sure to thoroughly clean your firing pin and firing pin channel with a degreaser and keep lubricant away from it in the future.

We used this and stuck it in like an arch in our intake.

I have just the core set and Nerekhall. I keep all the tiles in gallon ziplock bags in sets of 10 in the Nerekhall box and everything else in the core box using 2 of these. All the minis except the large ones in one and the cards, tokens, and dice in the other. I probably have enough room for another big box expansion.

It's fine. I bought this one on amazon from a link someone else posted a while back. Works great, and holds all my stuff. Plus, it's only 15 bucks!

This is the plano I use: https://www.amazon.com/Plano-2-Tray-Tackle-Access-Metallic/dp/B00FPQRLCO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485271452&sr=8-1&keywords=plano+2+tray

According to my squad builder I have 36 small base ships and 7 large ships. I keep everything but my two Falcons in the Plano along side all the small and large base cardboard, all the tokens I need, I believe I have over 10 small bases, as well as dice, bombs, asteroids, and maneuver templates.

I'm unsure of the dimensions, but I've wanted to try out these kind of fishing line dispensers... the little black bit is rubber so should hold the wire from 'retracting.'

I have this one and really enjoy using it. Not big enough for all my gear but I could easily specialize the pack for each trip. http://www.amazon.com/WT3604-Tackle-Lighted-Backpack-PT3600/dp/B00A0PA46U

u/setthehook · 1 pointr/Fishing_Gear

Cool. I read the tackle trays that come with it aren't big enough to hold hard baits. Did you have this issue?

Edit: do you have this model?

u/lerah72509 · 1 pointr/Stretched

I've been using these tackle boxes to hold my 1'' collection. I have a few of them to organize by plug type. They're cheap, size is great for inch plugs and can hold a lot of plugs. The dividers can be moved around to have each pair in their own spot. They're available at Wal-Mart as well so its convenient to get if you want them now instead of ordering.

u/BLToaster · 1 pointr/Ultralight

I actually don't have my clothing stuff in there just yet, I have the Frogg Toggs UL Suit so my plan would be to just throw that on should it rain and then I'll have my pack rain cover and any items in my pack that need to stay dry inside a trash compactor bag.

Is there anything else I should have rain wise?

This one looks closer to how she has it configured:

Plano 732

To be honest I don’t like it as much as some of the others I’ve seen. It was a Christmas present so I just rolled with it. The area under the top lid is angled at a steep slope and you can’t really fit as much as you’d like up there.

And as for the minis, they were not part of the kickstarter just the cedar d20 dice box

My 1st rod/reel was this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F0KM8GE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_OrIQBbYF8FXFX

It's an Ugly Stick GX2 rod /reel combo, medium/heavy 6'6.

Ive been using it for months and love it. I have it spooled with 20lb braid. I use lures of all different weights and I've always been happy with my cast distance.

Although to be fair it's my first setup and up until recently I haven't had anything to compare it to. I recently picked up a baitcast, but won't be able to try it out until Sunday:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075MY4D3X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MvIQBbSB0X40E

One thing I found out quickly was that depending on the lure I was using I feel I really need to put a lot of "muscle" behind the cast. A lot of variables can effect cast distance so it could be one thing or several things effecting your distance.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/guns

I clean them with this http://www.amazon.com/G96-1055P-Complete-Triple-Action-Treatment/dp/B0000DD5TL/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414426701&sr=8-1&keywords=g96+gun+treatment.

The rossi is brand new and I havent removed all the factory protective gunk yet so its probably "covered". My mosin I have shot a few times since I got it in 2013. I cleaned it after each use (corrosive ammo) and then I wipe it down with the g96 cleaner.

If you're interested in fly fishing I'd strongly reccomend WildWater's 5wt (technically 5/6wt) rod. It's $90 on amazon, is amazon prime eligible, and has an awesome lifetime warranty (its like $15 bucks to replace a rod with the warranty). Oh yeah, it also comes with a handful of trout flies, 4lb leader and a nice fly box. If you have any questions about fly fishing I'll do my best to answer them.

u/steppen79 · 1 pointr/flyfishing

Here's my two cents. While I agree with others on Orvis Clearwater being a good starter, what is most valuable in terms of bang for buck, etc., I recommend being very basic for your first set up. If you end up liking it, this will be your backup gear as some day down the road, you are going to buy way better gear than what everyone is mentioning here. My first combo was this: https://www.amazon.com/Wild-Water-Fly-Fishing-Complete/dp/B001IAHX6A/ref=lp_2603723011_1_1?srs=2603723011&ie=UTF8&qid=1496980622&sr=8-1

I still use it on occasion and have like 4 other rods/reels now. I have a Cabelas LSi as my "good rod" and a Ross Cimarron as my reel. I recommend going basic for your first combo and finding out if you like the sport. If you do, you'll want to get something better than an entry combo anyway.

The Prestige one you linked looks like it would probably get you started and has some of the other tools you would have to buy as well. Just a pack of some sort, forceps, nippers, and floatant (all things I consider must haves) will set you back $40. Some of the other included stuff looks pretty shitty but on the whole, seems like a good deal to me. If Cabelas makes the rod, it should be part of their warranty program as well.

Sorry, I was thinking of a different box. I was thinking of this.

This is what I use, and I love it. You can get it for $40 at Wal-Mart. I'm actually going to be posting my storage setup tonight. I don't know if it actually gets you too much more space than what you have though. The one other piece of advice I do have is to not be afraid to cut some plastic.

u/Unstablemedic49 · 1 pointr/Guitar

While you're waiting, grab two ball point pens that have that clicky button at the top to retract the pen tip. Unscrew it, and take out the spring. Put the springs on screws and that should work for the time being.

Tbh, I think those rubber things only come when you buy new pups. Look on amazon for some rubber surgical tubing that's like 1/4" thick, then cut them down to size to fit on the screws. Thats basically what it is, surgical tubing. Here's the amazon link:

If you're looking for something to meet people with in college I would suggest Pandemic. Co-op is probably a good way to go when trying to make friends and it's a pretty easy game to learn. If you find some people who may be more interested in heavier games you can't go wrong with Eldritch Horror. Just get a token organizer like this to make setup way easier than dealing with loads of baggies.

The morning sun peeks over the mountain, as a Bald Eagle begins his first hunt of the day. The rainbow trout jump in the excitement, creating the first ripples on the calm body of water. An American Flag slowly dances in the slow crisp air, seeming to respond to the sounds of the birds chirping. A man on an old wooden dock sends out his first cast, hoping to catch something that will provide a good breakfast for him. This right here is America. Fishing is patriotic, fishing is All-American, fishing gives me another reason to love this great country I am from. That is why I believe this tackle box is a heck of a way to show patriotism, and why I would love to have it.

I bought a Plano 728 that has been working pretty well for me. It doesn't come with side containers, but I've been told these ones will fit nicely.

A lot of others here have the Plano 732 and I've heard good things about that one as well, but I think it's a little more expensive. It does come with side containers though.

If you have a Wal-Mart nearby, they have pretty good prices on them, but you can also get them online.

shakespeare telescopic rod

These rods are fine for the smaller sized fish. They're easy to use while backpacking as they collapse, instead of coming in separate pieces. Definitely not an everyday rod, but very functional for hiking. Plus at this price you can afford to buy a few and break them with out feeling bad at all.

u/bicyclehobo · 1 pointr/bicycletouring

I carry a cheap 4'6" telescopic pole, a small shakespeare reel, and a couple lures with me and use them whenever I get a chance. To me it's well worth the price of a weekly fishing license if I get even one day of fishing in. The only thing that even compares with my love of cycling and camping is fishing. I have looked at a number of hand reels but you can find a set up that will work well for less than $50.

A yoyo, in this context, is an automatic reeler. Youtube has several videos on how to use them, and /r/camping or /r/survival love them too. They're great for throwing out, leaving for a few hours, and coming back to find a few live fish on them. Just make sure to check your yoyos. Forgetting to check them, or worse leaving them out, will piss off every fisherman who uses that body of water.

Also useful for setting up snare traps for small game, if that is legal where you're from.

u/tryin_to_weld · 0 pointsr/Welding

This (free shipping when you spend $49 so, i'd add a pair of ear plugs to reach the minimum) (free shipping if you spend $49 so, i'd add a pair of ear plugs for a dollar or two.) and this in a shade 10. This is to modify the hood because the rubber strap it comes with loosens up, the surgical tub is more comfortable and wont slip through the plastic retainer. Some people prefer the ratcheting headgear, but I'd suggest the tubing.

If you can get your friend's head size a few of these would make a nice addition to the hood, I would suggest ordering them medium to deep so that they cover the ears.
