Did you watch the new trailer? They did so much stuff that I hadn't even considered as a possibility at all! I'm sure it's just scratching the surface too. Still, even if it ends up being a $50 game's worth of content, $20 for a multi set building kit isn't out of line with other sets out there, and these sets seem a lot more complicated than the kinds of sets you normally get. Like here's a random example that's just one model for $10.. Since Labo comes with 4 sets (minus the bugs which are super simple), that's just $5 per set, which is actually really good considering the complexity of them.

Got your back, Here's a 48 pack on Amazon for $10. And there's more variety in the related, including: The Blue Rubber band ones, and The weighted balsa wood ones.
So.. To get a complete plane/radio/batteries/charger all ready to fly at $100 means it will be all proprietary to itself. Nothing you buy for this plane could be used for another plane. It is a horrible way to "Get into the hobby"
Now if you are OK with that, then we can make a few $100 stand alone recommendations.
If you are serious about "Getting into the hobby", then you really need to spend more now to avoid wasting your money now and having to spend even more later.
If you can't afford that right now (and even if you can) I highly suggest finding a local club and seeing if they will let you play on their trainer/buddy box. Most will let you do it at least once without having to join the club.

You can still buy the parachute guys. As well as the finger traps and those rubber popper things.. and my favorite, the sticky hands.

Solar charger! You can attach it to your backpack or leave it in your car back at camp (attached to a portable battery pack) and you'll have plenty of juice for the weekend. I have this one but I got it for much less, as it often goes on sale.
Also, this year I'm planning on bringing some of these little guys to give away as trinkets around the polo fields.

You sure? The best I could find searching for ornithopters was little rubberband kits and robotic hummingbirds. Nothing like what the original post is showing.

They come in a bunch of balsa wood parts, some tissue paper to cover the frames with, and rubber band propeller. Quite a challenge, actually, if you've never built one before.
