Hello all, in a previous post made yesterday, I had replied with a picture of a drawer of my Alex 9 unit and received a few of inquiries about how I made my drawer organizers. So, I decided to try my best to tell you how I did it. I apologize I wasn't able to make a complete step by step with a ton of photos, but this process was done over a year ago, and I wasn't really planning on doing it again since I finished!

Materials Needed:

Ruler

X-acto Knife

-I would recommend some extra blades as well-

--Foam Board (the more the merrier)--

Flathead Pins

--Contact Paper--

-The blades become dull fairly quickly, I think I used about four during the process-

--I was able to get a piece for $.99 at Michael’s on sale

---I decided to wrap each piece with contact paper because it makes it very easy to clean. In my actual vanity, I used fabric and it has gotten dirty and damaged and I 100% don't recommend it--

Template Materials:

Copy Paper or Grid Paper

Ruler

Actual makeup products

Steps:

  1. I first made templates for each drawer. I found using grid paper to design the setup made it very easy, each block was marked as an inch. Using the actual product dimensions I was easily able to map out what could possibly go in each location. It’s nice to know that the height of a standard sheet of copy paper is the width of the drawers! Also, to note, I made sure to give a little space on each side of the product to give it some wiggle room. (The dimension of each drawer is 11.5"x20.5")

  2. I then used normal copy paper to make a full-size map of each drawer. Then using that I transferred it onto the foam board. Measure twice and cut once.

  3. Using a straight edge, I was able to make cuts of each segment. It's easiest to first cut the width of the product and then afterwards cut the height of each compartment making sure they all have a uniform width and height.

  4. After each piece has been cut, I went ahead and wrapped every piece with white contact paper. Contact paper has a sticky back that easily allows it to adhere. Also, the back has its own grid so it was easy!

  5. Once each piece was ready to go ahead and assemble, I made a new template. This one was to make a uniform depth of each compartment (my smaller compacts all had about 3/4 of an inch between each and larger had about 1 inch) A B. This also made it very easy to ensure I had a perfect right angle.

  6. I decided to use flathead pins to connect everything together. I've seen previous YouTube tutorials that used hot glue, but that can be messy and difficult to work with. Also, if you ever need to redo something, you don't destroy what you had done. I used two pins on each side which really anchors the part. I will note, the tips of my index fingers went numb from doing this so much, but the feeling came back…eventually

  7. Enjoy!

    Some other things to note:

In my palette drawer, I created L shaped panels to allow for the palette to be better seen

I also purchased from byAlegory a liquid lipstick and lipstick organizers to build around

In my lipstick drawer, I purchased little glass beads to allow for the products to stand up better

My paper towel drawer has a holder which I created using a wooden dowel and clay

Also, I grabbed plastic liquid dispensers to easily get to my various liquids

Managed to slice my finger open making little lids of acrylic to hold all my disposable paper products

*Most of my other acrylic pieces have been purchased from MUJI

I hope you enjoyed my ~teal battlestation~, if you have any other questions about it feel free to ask. And I'm sorry if it was unclear at all. And, I'm 100% aware I have a stupid amount of makeup that I've gotten over the years as a makeup artist, Sephora employee, and a true Make Up Addict.

Here are the PDFs of the artwork for easy printing on 8.5” x 11”. You should be fine printing at 100% and make sure it's Landscape mode.

RIGHT ARM

LEFT ARM

Supplies you’ll need:

Color printing capabilities for 8.5”x 11” paper (standard Letter size)

Two (2) qty. 20” x 30” foam core boards—I went with this size because they are most readily available at stores like Michaels and Staples or even Amazon

20"x30" Foam Core Boards and here is a 10-pack on Amazon if you wanted to do your entire row (DO IT)

Spray Mount or glue stick

Scissors and a boxcutter

A cutting mat would be helpful but is optional

•Feel free to ask questions. If I can, I’ll try to answer but I hope you find it pretty easy. Only the cutting part takes attention but I found that easiest to hack large parts off in straight cuts and then get progressively smaller with the cuts. Good luck and let’s surprise the ALCS with #LETBRETTBANG signs everywhere! LFG

EDIT: You don't need to use foam core. You can probably use a large cardboard box or poster board. That might even be easier to cut. I just recommend the foam core because for its lightweight not much matches its rigidity.

u/JimKB · 10 pointsr/pics

Sure. You can purchase larger flat pieces of the foam sold just for this purpose. They call it scratchfoam. But I used the take-out box to show you can do it pretty cheaply and enjoy a little recycling at the same time.

Foamcore is generally what people use when making inserts for board games. It's easy to work with, glues together well, and looks pretty good, especially if you use a black color to hide any imperfections. You can check out a lot of different examples, tips and tricks over at r/foamcore.

My friend bought 2 identical folding tables (24x48) next to each other. It used to be just one with a project board over it.

I had a friend who is a wood worker build me a table topper that folds in half and I lay it across one folding table. It provides a 37"x37" space for the game and 5" rail for cards. Based on this but no terrain/foam and simply add 1x6 (cut to 5") around the edge and then felt over the main area.

The third method is basically up to you. I can tell you from what I see, and what I am doing now, is simply one or two prints of each image. Size is completely up to you and usually based on the quality of the image of course. That is where you kinda play the game "will this sell at this size?". Usually, the bigger the better in the eyes of the consumer. If it is bigger, they will pay more, if it is smaller, they will pay less.

The third method is best used when you are attempting to grow your profit margin, as in the materials aren't to expensive if you do your shopping.

Here is a good idea of what it will cost you.

Elmers Foam Board 10 Pack of Black - $36.49 USD no shipping w/Prime

x-acto blade for Foam Boards - as low as 9 bucks, this is comes with 2 blades, and will last quite some time

Spray Adhesive - $6 cheaper in store

Cheap T-Square, nothing fancy needed - 4 bucks

Now, the T-Square, and Blade are products that can last a while. All Together you spend about $55 USD, at the swapper, for 8x10's, I saw prints going for $30 and they were selling.

You almost made your money back in one sell.

I also have that table and use it for board game days!

I have to use this for XWing: https://www.amazon.com/Elmers-Premium-Tri-Fold-Display-902091/dp/B00753IXV8
Since I have no table big enough.

It works shockingly well though, its very sturdy and fairly thick, bumping isn't a problem, and it has room for cards/templates on the side

I suggest getting these items Silver Sculpey Get one pack for each bullet splash you want to have.

Then get these. Make sure you have two magnets or each bullet splash.

Then I'd make one claw arm not two as it's a pain to go without two hands. To make the claw I'd grab some foam board.

Get some Super glue or hot glue.

Silver paint that matches the baked shade of the clay.

some blue paint that matches your cop uniform.

Start with the clay, open it and save the wrapper- shape the stuff into dishes with a entry hole or deep point. From the center of each dish make spirals that come out - You could even make the clay into a long snake and coil it around and around to make your dishes. Then make an indent to place one of your magnets flush into the base and make it 10% deeper and wider. Follow the instructions and bake it. Grab super glue and attach one magnet to the dish and the other threw your cop uniform.

The arm is gonna be a bit harder. You want to cut out some shapes from the foam core and then glue it with some superglue or hot glue. I'd start off with cutting two rectangles about as wide as your forearm and about 10 -12 inches longer . the remainder I would cut into long right triangles that are as long as the long piece. This should help make a box to fit your arm in, continue to cut and glue additional pieces to make your hooks. Paint the same color as your putty dishes and you should be done. To help with the details- blend your silver paint into your clothing by matching a blue of the uniform into the splashes and arm the transition into the silver.

The main thing I do different with the dollar store puzzles is do them on a bi-fold foam board. They’re the perfect size for the 300 and 500 piece puzzles and they’re a solid, flat surface (I usually do puzzles on felt mats which aren’t solid). I can fold the board over when I’m not working on it and it keeps it flat.

Other than that I just try to be careful. I also cover parts of the puzzle I’m not working on with something flat (like thick paper or cardboard) so if I accidentally bump it or brush my hand/arm over it it’s protected.

It’s just sheets of 5mm foam with a paper outer layer. Found them on amazon. Really easy to work with. Just need a very sharp blade and some white glue

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Mat-Board-Center-Backing-Boards/dp/B01IIVZ0E8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1519044406&sr=8-3&keywords=3%2F16+foam+board
3/16" thick (~5mm). You can also buy large sheets at places like Hobby Lobby that are around 2'x3' for $6. I used a large retractable razor for most of the cutting and an exacto knife for the windows/doors. It cuts easily.

u/re76 · 2 pointsr/boardgames

I bought a ten pack on Amazon.

This one. Keep an eye out for Amazon warehouse deals. When I bought mine, I got a 10-pack for 27 dollars. It had a small dent in the corner but otherwise was totally fine.

u/Epsilon_balls · 2 pointsr/boardgames

no who you responded to, but this is what I bought when I got mine. It was about 3€ a sheet, and the sheets are about 50cm x 75cm. One sheet about what you need for a 'standard' sized box like Suburbia.

u/vkoser · 1 pointr/3Dprinting

I haven't seen a tote bigger than that, but I have seen people build enclosures from this kind of thing.

T-Sign Corrugated Plastic Sheets Coroplast Sign Blank Board, 24"x36" 3/16" Thick for A-Frame Replacement Poster Sheets, 2 Pack White Blanks Sign https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCKS59R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_AOYWBbGWQDG3E

Cut that to size and use zip ties to join the sides or tape. My local hardware has this in 4'x8' sheets so you might be able to find it local also.

You could use Plexi glass for the front so you can see in.

u/limitless__ · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

For the HVAC system I bought some foam board and made a box around it. Foam board was just held in place with some staples and alunimum tape around the corners. I left space around the unit to access it, change the filter etc. Worked great!

I've seen some people use Elmers Foam board to make cheap custom risers. Thinking about doing it myself.

This is what I use. Fantastic value for square area. Even if the edges are a little scuffed, it's easy to trim it off and still have enormous usable area for the price.

u/mistamo42 · 1 pointr/boardgames

Any craft store has it. Make sure to check the website for Michael's/Joann's etc for a 40% off coupon.

Or just order from Amazon.

u/SenseiSweets · 1 pointr/Warhammer40k

Good job there! Here some improvement tips to make it look smoother:
You can use this board as bases or even building material, it works really well! I've just got at a stopping point of my first scenery pieces: http://imgur.com/a/EuGXa
Super easy, just the board, PVA glue and some pins to hold it in place while it dries. Is about 90% complete, just some touch ups left. But you get the idea. The possibilities are endless, sometimes you just need to see someone doing and go from there!
P.S.
The wedges he uses in the video, for the base of the tank, are here. I've picked mine up at walgreens for a couple of dollars. They look a little nicer than the styrofoam, since it's all bubbly. So maybe look for some things that still work, but give you the ability to work with better! Still, I am super happy that you actually ended up building that!

u/_vance · 1 pointr/boardgames

I just bought it at a craft store, Michaels here in the US. it's a fairly dense piece of foam sandwiched by some heavy paper (cardboard?)

The brand I bought is elmers.

http://www.amazon.com/Elmers-Boards-Inches-3-Count-950025/dp/B00K257VWI/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452355818&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=elmers+foamcore

u/lolita_iori · 1 pointr/funkopop

No problem! Here's some links of stuff I've used:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Elmer-EPI-950025-Boards-foam-16x20-3pk-bk/48626076

https://smile.amazon.com/Elmers-Board-Multi-Pack-Black-16x20/dp/B00K257VWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500939612&sr=8-1&keywords=black+foam+board

And if you don't have one already you'll need a hot glue gun and box cutter to cut it. I cut them 3 inches x whatever length I need and then glue them together.

u/BSA_DEMAX51 · 1 pointr/boardgames

I (the OP) always just use Elmer’s White Glue-All and it works perfectly. It sticks well to both the foam edges and the paper tops of the foam board, it’s super easy to wipe off if you use too much, and if you get it on yourself you can just rub it right off with friction. It’s cheap, effective, and you can find it virtually anywhere.

Also, make sure you use good foam board (again, I prefer Elmer’s 5mm) and you shouldn’t have much issue with warping.

u/antilles345 · 1 pointr/boardgames

tl:dr - Look for foamboard instead of foamcore in german Shops.

One of these- https://www.amazon.com/Office-Depot-Mobile-Folding-16in-H/dp/B00DB8O26Q/ref=pd_sbs_229_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00DB8O26Q&pd_rd_r=E7972N798VKEM7GWFPGK&pd_rd_w=VeIS7&pd_rd_wg=sP8FQ&psc=1&refRID=E7972N798VKEM7GWFPGK Then buy some foam from your local fabric store, some elmers glue, and some foam boards- https://www.amazon.com/Pacon-Board-Inches-16-Inch-Sheets/dp/B002NM94IC/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1501699428&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=foam+board&psc=1 You cut the foam to make your tray compartments, then glue the boards to the bottom of the foam, and you have some pretty darn sturdy customisable foam trays in a very transportable cart. I used to carry all my Hordes stuff in one(very large army, well, for Hordes). And you can always add boxes onto the top of the rolling cart and strap them on. It's cheap, sturdy, and customisable. Just not very pretty :)

Honestly amazon had 10 20x30 sheets for 5.00 at one point. Apparently it's a good deal that comes around every once and awhile on there. It's currently 25.00. Here's a link to the item to keep an eye on it.

Elmer's Foam Board Multi-Pack, Black, 20x30 Inch, Pack of 10 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006VRTZM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FX5JybFMD277X

I ended up getting 20 sheets for 10 dollars.

u/Mikeytruant850 · 1 pointr/comicbooks

That makes a lot more sense! The last person that posted these linked to Amazon and it was the same product for $16.95. Maybe it was a ten pack or something? I'll definitely go this route if they're that affordable, they look great.

EDIT: Looks like it's a 2 pack, are these the same ones you got at Walmart?
