You have 32 years of orchid horticulture? Well, that's all very nice but they're still dyed

Like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K57KJK4/?tag=097-20&ascsubtag=v7_1_2i_4ch_3d0h_4_x01_-srt10- it's not a succulent but I found it in Amazon quickly.

u/throfodoshodo · 2 pointsr/NatureIsFuckingLit

i found a cheaper one but it's also cheaper in quality i guess

Usually, the length is from the roots to the top of the stem, and doesn't measure in the twisty part or leaf section, but it can depend by seller. More honest, better quality ones at least do that from what I saw out there based on reviews.

Also, just reading there is a another variety of Dracaena we can use called Lotus Bamboo. Though it kind of looks like a long green dildo carrot.

I think the only blue they have a variety in looks like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Just-Orchids-Fresh-Blue-Dendrobium/dp/B00K7O6HW4

They have some purple in them too. They are so radiant.

I loooove green, reminds me of nature and green tea<3 It's so rare to hear someone else say green is their favorite color :D

Something practical

Something impractical BUT AWESOME (they glow green and it helps me with my fear of the dark)
I've always wanted to hang glow in the dark things to my ceiling/walls for a long time :P

And of course NATURE!

I hope you don't mind that I put three, any of these would be great though<3! Thanks for the contest!

I think this with a side of this would be lovely from my husband! I don't know how wild or crazy it is, but honestly you can never go wrong with a breathtaking surprise!

I'm more optimistic than most when it comes to growing bonsai from very early stages, but the truth is most people with less than 10 years of bonsai experience have practically zero chance of succeeding in creating a bonsai from seed. And those with 10 years or more rarely go down that path because of the time it takes to do it right (typically 20-30 years).

I think a lot of newbies think of bonsai from seed as "plant a seed in a bonsai pot and watch it turn into one", a huge misconception that is encouraged by crap like this. I think this is the misconception that the folks here often rail against. This pretty much just won't work.

Even adamant seed deniers like small_trunks would admit that one can, in fact, produce bonsai from seed if you plant many seeds to account for failures, and grow them in the ground for 10-15 years with proper technique along the way (grow, chop, grow, chop, etc). But most folks just aren't up for this kind of project, so it tends to get discouraged.

I have all kinds of experiments going with seedlings that sprouted up in my yard naturally (technically from seed even though I didn't plant them). There's probably not a single one that will be in a bonsai pot in less than 10 years, and most will take longer. Many may not even make it that far, although I have high hopes for at least a few of them.

So while I agree that hun technically made a broad and incorrect statement, in actual practice it was pretty accurate.

I would like to nominate /u/dcatalyst because I know it would make him happy to have his mama get something nice off of her list. No sob stories, he's just a great guy and I know his mom would really love getting something special too. I think this would really bring a smile to her face.

A bonsai tree honestly seems like your best chance.

You could even start a new hobby with the bonsai. If you want to just purchase one right off, keep in mind the cheaper ones won't be the prettiest. It seems with bonsai, you really do get what you pay for. Here's a great and cheap one on ebay that looks like it might be great for the birdies

So ya, take a look online. Also look around local stores like nurseries and home improvement stores. I know most asian gift shops tend to have bonsai trees too, so you can even see exactly what you'd be getting in person.

Edits with some fun ideas for bonsai trees:

Here's a cool little tire swing! You could definitely put some toys on the tree, then
This tree seems great!

Same with this one

A little trimming, if you're brave enough, and this may be excellent

And another the parrots could hide in without harming the tree or being uncomfortable to your babies

There's one on amazon. cost a lot more than in stores, but it's an option

Pine bark fines are a specific thing. It's not "fine pine bark".
"Fines" refers to small particle size, i.e. it's not big chunks of shredded bark like for mulch, it's in smaller pieces.

What are you growing?

I am blessed beyond measure and do not have any immediate needs. However, I saw this Reddit post...
"My friend was notified yesterday that her Mom's long battle with brain cancer is nearing it's end. Hospice is being arranged and my friend has asked on Facebook if anyone would be willing to send her Mom some cards to brighten her last days. This is an incredible woman that has always been there for others and I hope that that through the power of Reddit we can be there for her in this difficult time. Cards may be sent to the following address;
Punki Foss, 1523 48th Ave S, Grand Forks, ND 58201
My hope is that through the power of Reddit we can make this difficult time for her and her family a little more bearable.
Thank you all."

Would you be able to send her flowers? Perhaps these?

I nominate my mother. She raised four children, worked low paying jobs with late and long hours, all to give us a good life. She did not go to college herself, but instilled the importance of an education in all of us. Her youngest and oldest (me) kids graduated college together in December.

Growing up, she kept our home clean, instilled in all of us a love of reading and art, cooked wonderful meals, was the best gift giver ever...as a teenager I butted heads with her something awful. Now that I'm grown with kids of my own, she's my best friend, and I hope I can be half the mom she is.

If she wins, I'd like to give her this. She's gotten heavily into gardening, especially bonsai, and I think she'd love to grow one of her own from seed.

Great, I didn't realize how diff the emersed growth leaves would be. I think I'll give it a shot. Thx for suggestion.

Yeah, I looked at HD and all they had were succulents and evergreen trees/bushes/wreaths. Johnson's Florists is great near me and it has a great selection that seems to rotate (at least over the past week or so I've gone twice) of the really small pots, and then they only have much too large ones. But, I'm on a mission. I just found a mini syngonium online but it says no re submerged roots boo hoo.

But, all those ferns say they will rot with the roots in water? I guess I could try one. I did worry re the humidity level though.

Re the ferts, do you think I can get away with just using Seachem Flourish for the stem plants and I guess I'll have to use root tabs since I put a couple Crypts in there.

And I think I have a buce or two. Still looking for something to put at the top of the rock to hide the waterline. I have some anubias, but I hate to imagine it drying up in transition. Thanks again.

I don't see why not! Just pay attention to the quality of the fakes I guess :) In saying that, if you mean the blue roses they do exist

u/DarkOctober · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Oh, they're really cool! They're technically called Tillansdia and they grow without dirt! You can put them anywhere you want and they just need to be rinsed under water and occasionally soaked in a cup overnight.

The coolest part is when they bloom though, they only bloom one time in their life, then they shoot off a little baby before they die and the baby repeats the process! The bloom is beautiful!

They sell them on Amazon and there are a few different kinds. Amazon also sells really cool kits or you can just build your own habitat, they have all different kinds though, just browse around, I'm sure you'll see something you like.

If I don't get back to you for a little bit it's because I'm headed to work, so I shall chit chat with you later :)
