This is for the shells, make sure you order the right one. I would strongly recommend that you buy the D-Pad shell for the left JoyCon, it's an incredibly positive difference; I can't even put it in words how much better it is:

This is for the tool kit I used:

This is for the replacement joystick modules. I personally didn't need to replace mine, but I figured I'd include it in case yours were drifting:

Have you got a Gameboy (or DS!)? Any Gameboy will do! You got it?? Good!! Now, depending on the generation of Gameboy in your hand, follow one of these links:
Original -> Pokemon Red / Pokemon Blue / Pokemon Yellow - Pikachu Edition
Gameboy Color -> Pokemon Silver / Pokemon Gold / Pokemon Crystal
Gameboy Advance -> Pokemon Ruby / Pokemon Sapphire / Pokemon Emerald
Nintendo DS -> Pokemon Diamond / Pokemon Pearl / Pokemon Platinum
Nintendo DS -> Pokemon Black / Pokemon White
... and sort your life out!
EDIT: As people rightly pointed out, no 3DS Pokemon yet, fixed it!
You mean this abomination?
Yup, I had one of those.
I had the magnifying glass with 2 lights for my gbc
Edit: I think this is it

This one is glacier purple and has 4.5 out of 5 star reviews: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BB76D7U/ref=pd_aw_sbs_2?pi=SL500_SS115&simLd=1

Here it is! Only $6 plus shipping costs.
The REAL Red and for only $149.99.
Take the cart apart and pop it into the gameboy and turn it on. If the cart has power, you can swap out the battery. Make SURE it is connected proper, then save the game and turn off the cart. If you are careful, your save will be ok. Afterward, pop it out and put the cover back on. I've had to do this with quite a few, it's pretty easy!
You'll either need a CR2025 or a CR2016 watch battery. You can also hunt down something like a MonsterBrain to dump the data then replace and re-load it back to the cart, though I haven't used that thing since I was a kid.
I don't mean to divert attention/potential buyers away from BennVenn and what he does for this community, but alternatively to the Mega Memory Card (which btw, sometimes saves are randomly deleted entirely), you can use a Monster Brain for pretty much the same effect. Backs up game saves permanently but it can also edit/hack Pokemon games right on the thing itself, and has the ability to colorize older Gameboy games to your liking. Plus, it's much cheaper than any price I've found a Mega Memory Card for.
Again, I don't mean to insult BennVenn nor hurt his business, just providing another product that does essentially the same effect as a Mega Memory Card.
Mega Memory Card - https://www.amazon.com/Mega-Memory-Card/dp/B00002R108
there kind of expensive because there used in the chiptune scene, and by pokemon players
another option is the Monster Brain - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000056HGE
seems to have solid reviews!

Yup, with a DK Land 2. I also still have one of these with two copies of Blue, all of which stays in my backpack. I've other GBC games, but they didn't seem relevant. :/
I mean the best for dmg would be krikzz everdrive, but its quite pricey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JZG3452/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_bGy2DbP34DP2D
If you're on a budget I would recommend a Chinese clone (lacks some features of the original)

Amazon has Pokemon Red available, it's around $15 for them though.
You can get them cheaper on Ebay though.
I haven't really had issues with ebay but if you'd rather avoid it then I would recommend Amazon
red
or
blue
Had a version similar for my Gameboy color. Must have burned the battery out on that thing daily for about 2 years straight.

where do you live?
I used to resell games online and if that's true I would buy them all and make at least $5 each profit.
or $809.96....
It really depends on the battery you replace it with.
I think the standard cr2016/cr1620's should give you around 10 years, the larger cr 2032's will give you like 15 or so.
These are really rough estimates, I don't remember the source, they may be a bit off.
But no matter the size, as long as you use a good quality replacement they should last you quite some time, IF you want non-battery-backed backups to keep the pokemon longer, just pick up this
You can make multiple backups of your save file on non-volatile memory, and it's only around $10-$15
We can fix that.
I bought this set
And I used the original screws instead of the included ones. Double check your triggers etc before you screw things shut, the plastic on the shells won't like being fastened multiple times. Don't over tighten. The tweezer proved more useful than I initially thought. I also used a wood barbeque skewer to deal with some hard to reach spots (ie. Pressing the battery connector back).
Good luck!
I see what your explaining, let me clarify what your trying to say a bit.
If your copy of Battle Network (or any other early GB/GBC/GBA/NES/SNES game) will not save, it's likely due to a dead CR2025 battery, which in the GBA era was finally being replaced with flash memory sometimes.
This early memory used RAM to hold the game save, just like your computer's RAM. like your computer's ram, it requires power to hold data. No power, and the transistor states that hold your game's data will be lost and your game will corrupt. So when that battery's power goes below the operational threashold of the ram chip, data degrades. Eventually, the battery will be too weak to power the RAM chip at all, and your saves vanish as soon as the game boy is powered off.
If your lucky, your game may have a flash chip instead. This is what most games made today have, and it doesn't require power to hold data. It does have a limited number of writes, but that's not going to be a problem with the amount of writes a game like MMBN makes. That's more of an SSD hard drive problem.
The type of CR2032 battery Nintendo used in these games is a soldered in type like this. When these game batteries die, the best solution is to desolder the old one and install A socket and put a standard CR2025 in it's place so it's replaceable in the future. Sometimes if the game pak has too little space, another soldered type must be installed.
A game pak may also have issues saving and playing the game if the slot connector is dirty, which may be the case if multiple games have issues. There's a kit to clean the connector, but I can't seem to find it for some reason. The other side of the issue is the game itself, which is the case if "blowing on it" makes it work. You will need A set of Nintendo screwdrivers which may also come included with security bit sets, ~90% isopropyl alchohol, and an unused eraser. It's a good idea to go ahead and do this if you're already replacing the battery and if your doing this, you may also think about replacing the battery... erase off the buildup and clean the connector with the alchohol and paper towels or q-tips. There are things like the 1up card for bigger systems, no idea why the GB line was passed over.
Anyway, hope this helped.
The cheapest option, without actually backing up, would probably be a Monster Brain ($13 on Amazon). You can use it to hold your save, change the battery, and then immediately restore the save - or do the even cheaper method of replacing it while the game is on. After that, I'd recommend BennVenn's Joey.
I made a guide with all sorts of devices/methods with links and videos included right here, but the cheapest options were already mentioned.
That one almost looks broken, but I can't tell. The bottom had a rounded piece to it, like this.
EDIT: I believe the Nyko one had the rounded bottom. It looks like there are other brands that have that flat, open bottom to it.
I don't want to give mine up, however there's a ton on amazon that are used, and if you wind up with a fake you can contact amazon and they'll give you a refund/find you a real one
This was okay if you don't mind staring directly into a brightly reflected light for hours. I preferred this thing.
There's also this, it was like a game genie but for pokemon only: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Brain-game-boy-color/dp/B000056HGE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1411353546&sr=8-2&keywords=monster+brain+gameboy

Had a bunch of stuff you could do, and it allowed you to make multiple saves. I had one of these as a kid.
It's been a while though, so please research it to make sure it does what you need for the cartridges you need it for before you buy one if you decide to.
Yes. But you need a Universal Link Cable. A bit of a problem because they don't make those anymore, but I'm sure you could track one down online.
edit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Universal-Link-Cable-GBC/dp/B00004TNM8 you need one of these.
[It's the one sold by Amazon Warehouse Deals.](Game Boy Pocket - Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004ZDHL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_O.WRybKKATYVH)
Yea, the dreaded Nintendo screw. Also known as tri-wing or Y screws. Doesn't help you much now, but you can get drivers for them in cheap kits online. Here's one that has a driver for every screw type that Nintendo ever used, starting with the GameCube:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Screwdriver-Younik-Precision-Products/dp/B06XPX5XLY
I had one of these.
I totally used to do that as a kid until i had some thing like this and I had a battery pack
too! :)

This reminded me of the Gameboy blob light

Here is the desktop version of your link
I went to amazon to figure out which system Silver is on (it's on GBC) but the price is crazy! Anyway off to find a GBC emulator. (if anyone knows one, or if there's a different version let me know!)
I always liked it when that happened cause I had an excuse to break out this guy http://www.amazon.com/Blob-Light-Gameboy-Color-Pocket/dp/B0031YF9XK
Do you want CIB/Mint or just the cartridge?
Amazon have some pretty decent deals depending on condition
Have you tried using the links on the sidebar? Here is pricecharing for Pokemon Blue
Which is why, if anyone has even the most basic soldering skills needs to replace those batteries (while using a secondary batter to keep the save intact) before they die completely. That or pickup something like a Monster Brain and use it to backup your saves.
Amazon if you're still in trouble: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004TEYR/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=1398645599&sr=1-1
Almost any used version of G/S is going to have a dead battery by now (they only lasted about 10 year). Even ones that say they work are probably very close to the end of their life. Before you begin playing, just pop into any game shop and they can put one in for maybe $5 and it'll last you another 10 years
A game I really adore is Pokémon Gold it was the first game I ever played and have adored the Pokémon series ever since by playing them all. A few years ago my Mum gave away my whole Gameboy collection without me knowing. Over the past few years I've started to rebuild my childhood collection of games. One of the only games I need is this one.
Eggplant Wizard
Thanks for the contest :)
Not a game but a cheap nearly retro videogame piece i need lol
Yeah seemed a bit high, but i wasn't sure where to look besides amazon and ebay and that was the lowest price i found on either site and neither said the condition. but to be fair, that's also where i got the price for the cards which seemed high to me, so i guess both the price points are a bit off.
i can't find my gameboy to take a video to show the battery works, but it did last time i played it, which was sometime last summer.

Not sure what you payed for it. But you can grab used ones on ebay for about 20 bucks and scavenge for parts. If like me you are doing mods it is good to have spare parts.

Pikmin is probably one of my favorite series, due to it's uniquely fun Gamecube gameplay, and tons of ways to just explore. So many cute Pikmin to see, and worlds to explore!ZELDA IS LOVE. ZELDA IS LIFE.438, no wait...78...OH HOW WILL I SOLVE THIS? I KNOW, I MUST CHEAT OFF THE OTHER ANSWERS! IT'S 24!...^^^42Thank you for making this giveaway, now quite a few more people will enjoy a game with mediocre scores, and this is not me, a Nintendo rep, trying to remove a single copy from the market to prevent homebrew! Nosirrie!
I would love to see Pokemon live action type battle game but that probably won't happen but I love Pokemon and puzzle games like professor Layton. Unfortunately the cheapest game on my list is $15 dollars used so that is a little high but thanks for the contest :)
That's for a new, unopened game.

You might try the gameboy cleaner kit? It might be that the contacts are very dirty and aren't making a good connection with the games.
They usually come in a set like this
They look about the same to me:
Pokemon Silver
Black Ops

One of the best games of all time !
Well, one person is selling them for $300. Used copies, like yours, are going for 15 bucks. Big difference there!
I'v had good luck with this one. The triwing isn't perfect but I sanded the tip ever so slightly so it fits a little better. I did the blue shell replacement. I also replaced my latches to the metal ones. They work great !

Carts are easier to clean. Isopropyl alcohol is your friend here. Get it as pure as you can find. Be sure to give anything time to dry before turning on. A few ideas: 1. Put a crapload of isopropyl alcohol on a cart's contacts (pick one that doesn't have a save battery) and move the cart in and out of the cart reader. 2. Find something flat like a popsicle stick, soak in alcohol and gently move this against the contacts. 3. Get a gameboy cleaning cart: https://www.amazon.com/Cleaning-Kit-Game-Boy/dp/B00002SVEF

We use ESRB in Canada. Looks like either a European box with no PEGI rating or a homemade reproduction box.
It played Nintendo games, sooooo. It just says Nintendo on it. I'll try and find it in my closet when I get home.
The game definitely exists, as you can still buy it on Amazon, and Amazon has it as a Gameboy game. Maybe the Gameboy logo chipped or peeled off over time and I just forgot it was ever there.
Just look for a tool kit like this one in an Amazon shop near you.
There are some others bigger kits than even have screwdrivers for most smartphones an laptops if you want something more complete.
I'm sooooo jealous. I lent a friend of mine my Pokemons Yellow, Silver and Crystal, my Monster Brain and my shiny Gold and Silver Special Edition Gameboy Color. I never got them back. I've asked about them multiple times and she,"Doesn't have them. They're not in any of her boxes." >: (

Yea Though, and I'm no gameboy color expert, but the red, blue, silver, and gold gameboys in this pic appear to be fakes. I've personally never seen an official nintendo gameboy with a completely flat bottom edge.
Update: Went looking around and found out that they are "Gameboy Lights" aka frontlit original gameboys from japan only
