I used this instead of your PVC piece.

The idea came from HBT

So it's a four-five step process:

  1. (Optional) Pre-treat stains, I usually only worry about rubbing out stains on my white clothes using a little bleach gel pen and this plastic washing board.

  2. Fill up a bucket or sink with water. (I use my sink because it's big enough and I had to purchase a stopper to go with it.) I add some detergent because I figure if I'm doing it by hand then I need all the help I can get, though some people disagree if it's necessary.

  3. Then the washing part comes in. For about 5 minutes I go around the sink pushing up and down with this special plunger thingy. I've heard you can do this with a regular plunger by cutting some holes in its top (needed to let the air out when you push the plunger down), but this thing I use is nice because it's made for this purpose and it really aerates the clothes as you wash them. This in particular may be what is making your clothes stiff.

  4. You could try rinsing some of the soap off them at this point but I don't, because the few times I did I didn't notice a difference. I just squeeze the obvious excess water out of them and put them into a Nina soft spin dryer to spin the excess water out of the clothes. It was the cheapest way to do this I could find. None of the really small washing machines do a spin cycle so this is the one thing I needed machinary for. I was also looking into handcranked manual clothes ringers but they cost as much as the Nina Spin Dryer so I went with the Nina.

  5. After a few minutes in the soft spin machine I take out the now moderately damp clothes and hang them up to dry.

Depending on how you hang them will determine how flat they are. I have an ironing board in case any of the creases bother me but they've never been so bad for me to use it yet.

Definitely agree with the Spotlights, counter stool space, and drawers. We put drawers EVERYWHERE! So much nicer to pull out a drawer and have access to the ENTIRE space. It’s useful for everything from foods to pots and pans - no more rearranging things all the time just to get to a pot or look for something.

Another neat gadget is the garbage disposal air switch next to the sink, like this https://www.amazon.com/Disposal-Insinkerator-Disposals-Essential-Values/dp/B0728BB4ZM
No more having to open the doors underneath the sink!

They have those garbage disposal flanges in stainless steel. That's what I used. http://amazon.com/InSinkErator-FLG-SS-Flange-Stainless-Steel/dp/B000CCMZ18

Just FYI, using PVC for your "hop sloth" is gonna lead to some off flavors (even if its above the boil). I recommend using an all stainless steel construction using one of these in place of the PVC.

You might not find value in this, but I had the exact same setup before, so I'll mention it...

If you want to move your disposal control to the sink itself, you can replace that dual switch with a single dimmer of your choice for the light, hotwire the disposal, then install a pushbutton disposal control on the sink.

You'd have to do some more work under the sink, as well. But I did this and it's paid for itself ten times over in convenience and safety (original switch was a long reach across the dishwasher).

Cheers.

mine was just awful when i checked.

Clean it and re-tighten it. If the seals are bad you can buy the whole kit, and perhaps just the seals:

Here is how I did it, I'm sure there are better ways but I used what I could get at the time and it worked out great. Picked up this sink flange from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CCMZ18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I found a 3 1/2" SS hose clamp at lowes but the only Stainless Steel bolts they had that were long enough were Eye bolts 3/8" x 8" and were a little larger than I wanted but I really didn't have a choice. I drilled three holes high enough where I could still get the hose clamp on and used 3xSS 3/8" jam nuts to hold them on. Here is what I ended up with:

Was really easy and took about 30min. Took longer to try and get help and Lowe's and finally find it my self that it took to build it.

They sell kits for this where all you need is a little saw to cut your pipes to fit. You should be able to fix it cheaply and without too much headache/cost.

Get yourself a switch that mounts near the sink, since this is DIY, and run an extension cord from the fridge outlet through the backs of the cabinets.

This one uses air pressure, so you can't shock yourself.
