I found the bottom part on Amazon. Now we just need the cooking surface but I'm stumped.

It can be done, but you will likely have to spec/build items yourself. Here's my last grill that I "BIFL'd":

Cast Iron burner....will last 900 years.

Burner shroud version one. 1/4" 304 Stainless. Too thick. Switched to 1/8". Too thick. Finally switched to nothing and let the cast unit take all the pain.

Grate which I was sick of replacing year after year. 1/4" 304 Stainless round bar.

This grill was PERFECT. Then that woman that lives with me went and told her folks we needed a new grill to keep up with the Jones'. Enter new Charbroil that started rusting within 9 seconds.

Charbroil FINALLY makes a cooking grate worth a damn as its flat cast iron with enamel. I will eventually have to replace the burner tubes and I hope they have a cast iron verison. A buddy in California (logo on the grate was done backwards by him thinking it would logo my food, but 1/4" stainless plate is HARD to get hot) did Grill #1 for free and a local buddy did the sheet stainless work on grill #2 for $150.

The grill I really want and I'm sure is stout as hell is the 316 Stainless Solaire. Its pure infared cooking which scares some people, but its nuts when you see one cook a frozen steak to medium rare in 4 minutes....they are like magic. The small size is made up by the fact that everything cooks in 1/3 the time. http://www.amazon.com/Solaire-Anywhere-Portable-Infrared-Stainless/dp/B002VLYAW0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395110118&sr=8-2&keywords=Solaire+Gas+Grills+Go+Anywhere+316+Grade+Stainless+Steel+Portable+Infrared+Propane+Gas+Grill

That standing Coleman is nice; a little big for what I use but if you are looking for something smaller and even more portable, I have the Son of Hibachi for my charcoal needs and the Fuego for my gas needs. Take a look at both. Read up on them. Both cool for different reasons.

The thinner the metal, the more quickly it will degrade under heat. The more expensive the grill, the thicker the metal generally.

I have a Broilmaster H3XN hooked up to my home's natural gas service. It was expensive, but works great and really withstands the elements. Of course I mostly use my smokers and charcoal grills these days, but still... great to have it.

I've had this little guy for about 5-6 years and it's incredible. I swear by it and the quality. One peice cast iron grate is perfect. Folds fairly thin with the legs coming down. Not sure if it's what you're after but if sure recommend this product.

Those are all the kinds of things a quitter would say. So here's what you do.

-- Quit your job.

-- Break up with her.

-- Get off social media.

-- Hit the gym.

-- Learn to grill things over fire like a manly man or a manly woman or a womanly man or a womanly woman, fuckin' anyone who knows how to cook meat over fire. Learn that shit.

Honestly though, most people here seem to prefer charcoal to gas (probably a 60/40 split) And pretty much EVERYONE of us recommends Weber products.

If you're really only cooking occasionally and your budget is in the $250 range I'd recommend this it's a small grill, that's well made, and you can certainly learn on it and grow into something bigger as time/money allows.

My one complaint is that it uses the small propane bottles, they're good for a few cooks usually, especially if you're doing things that don't require long cook times (burgers/steaks/chicken/fish/sausage/veggies) These all cook quickly unless you're doing chicken legs or potatoes.

I do believe that you can get a conversion kit and a hose to connect it to a large propane tank though, and that might be worth the investment.

Another bonus is that this grill is portable so you can take it with you camping or to the beach if you're into that sort of thing.

Fun story about this grill. I live in Texas, and my uncle won this grill at some kind of company hunt (shot the largest hog or some such... anyway he has the grill or one very similar to it, this was 8 years ago now, so the model might be slightly different) So hurricane Ike hit and destroyed Galveston, and knocked out power where I live for like 10 days. And after about day 3 this was the only thing we had left to cook on, and we cooked EVERYTHING on it. We used it to make coffee, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, everything we had available to cook, got cooked on this little thing, and it fed 7 of us 3 meals a day for a while. (We burned through so many little bottle of propane, but we ate well, so that was nice.)

Long story short, it's a badass little grill with a decent cooking area for 3-4 people, it gets damned hot, and it's easy to clean, and put away.

Definitely worth a look if you're not married to that NexGrill (of which I have no opinion, because I've never used one.)

Take a look into something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU5KZsG_mQk

I live in California, and we never get below freezing where I live. But, today, I'm going to roast outside on a cloudy day and it's below 60F. My natural gas propane kicks out so much BTU's, the cold weather doesn't even affect my roasting times. Definitely look into a small outdoor propane grill set up. This would work:

Excellent help. Thank you!

I am looking at this right now as the most probable option...
http://www.amazon.com/Lion-Premium-Grills-L75623-Natural/dp/B0070U0LTI

It is 304 grade and I've been reading reviews and seems like an excellent option at that price point.

I found a few shops in my area that sell barbecues so I will be visiting them on saturday. Definitely staying away from Home Depot.

We have all-wood "indoor" cabinets under our covered patio. The good news is that it is holding up just fine after 3 years in the American south (hot, wet, humid). The bad news is that we had to buy a grill that offered an optional insulating jacket to meet fire code. Link

I"ve had this sitting outside for two years now and it shows no signs of dying.

No, just the grill... we figured a project this big we were going to get one of the nicest grills: https://www.amazon.com/Lynx-L600PS-Sedona-36-Inch-Propane/dp/B00CBWIRM8

Didn't buy from Amazon, but the grill is not cheap.

We looked at Bull, Weber, and plenty of cheap Kitchenaid grills... wasn't for us..

There is a sear feature that a lot of grills have. Lynx is the only one that you can use the space for sear at 1200 degrees or something crazy hot, but then if you're throwing a party can turn the sear down to grilling temp. All indirect heat with briquettes. They actually have a Pro series but that would set you back $5k. https://www.lynxgrills.com/products/view/sedona-36-builtin-grill-with-prosear-rotisserie/

The tanks like what you linked have a "pop out valve" that will allow a little propane to escape if the tank gets warm. They should never be stored inside a vehicle. It can start a fire. That's the reason you always see them on the outside of a camper.

If you're not going to use it a lot, and you're going to use propane for cooking, I'd get those little single fill ones that are 16 oz each. I've stored them in a vehicle with no problem. They cost a little more per unit of propane, but it is much easier to plan, and you'll find you can cook a good number of meals on a bottle. Also, they take up way less space.

Here is the type of stove I'm talking about.
