The bottleneck is too narrow to efficiently transfer wine into that "wine glass". Try this instead.

It was discontinued in 2006. I remember reading about it. My mom, a New Yorker, went and bought a couple of ceramic cups with the print she grew up with. Not sure if these are the ones she got, but they look like them.

If you have to buy one to use for everything, get a stemmed tulip style glass. http://amzn.com/B003QRJCY4

u/Sruzzy · 7 pointsr/funny

They sell it on amazon.

Edit: Here's a link to one of them, for those who want it.

u/turkeypants · 7 pointsr/beer

I'd say an unbranded tulip and you're done. Or two. Or four. Depending on your plans and your rate/likelihood of having beer geek guests over. To the degree glasses make a difference, this shape is favored for various reasons like, surface area exposure to generate more aromatics, concentrating those aromatics with the taper, head retention for some reason, etc.

Set of 2 Spiegelau

Set of 4 Spiegelau better price

Not sure why they call it a stemmed "pilsner" glass since we're used to seeing a different, taller style of glass typically associated with pilsners, but a tulip by any other name would smell as sweet. They make them smaller, but I like this bigger version.

I have a couple of these and they're just my default for anything better than everyday beer, but realistically could be somebody's only beer glass just as easily. I've never bothered to test whether my senses are attuned enough to notice a difference vs., say, a shaker pint, but I figure it can't hurt. With these in my cabinet, I don't otherwise feel compelled to get a bunch of different shapes for different styles. Some people are glass junkies and have fun getting lots of different kinds, but if you want to one-and-done it, I think this is the one.

I think branded glasses are tawdry myself but lots of people prefer branded/painted/artsy and like to collect different ones. Luckily there are tons of branded glasses in this shape from lots of breweries if you like that better than plain.

Fun fact (for those in the US and buying on Amazon at least): while buying 2 puts them at ~$7-8 each[1], the sweet spot is usually in 6 or 12 packs at ~$5 each[2].

I have an RTIC that was a Christmas gift with my name on it, and we got these straws and together I always have something to drink. I think I am going to order another one, to keep one at my chair and one by the bed. They don't need a lot of ice to keep drinks cold all day.

u/tribetillidie34 · 4 pointsr/ElectricForest

I'm with you man! I was too shy/first time forester last year to do the GA Beer Exchange but this year I am all about it! My crew will definitely be bringing some Grand Rapids beers for the exchange, probably going to have to buy some stainless steel growlers like this: http://www.amazon.com/Kegworks-Stainless-Steel-Beer-Growler/dp/B00885HHSM to bring some local beers that aren't canned. Perrin and Harmony Brewing company are both amazing but dont can their beers!

> I fell into Amazon and got lost.

I feel that on a spiritual level.

For a thermos, I have this one and I really like it. You have to push a little button to drink from it, so there's no risk of spilling, and it's easy to clean.

I also have this one which is great if you need it to stay warm for a while or if you want your cold drinks to stay cold. You might need a little sleeve for it if you're going to put hot drinks in it, though. It's a knockoff of those ridiculously expensive Yeti cups, but it's about a third of the price and works just as well.

u/szor · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Perhaps you should invest in a wine sippy cup ;)

A good number (though I agree that it's decreasing) of the Midtown carts that I've stopped at still use them. I also shamelessly bought one of these for my office:

I don't think they were Mason jars. Just doesn't make sense to take in a car. (Glass and alcohol? Yikes!)

Pretty sure they were these [Tervis wine tumblers] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009T8KCV6/ref=asc_df_B009T8KCV65124047/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B009T8KCV6&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198069717512&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=378729337009359849&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9026373&hvtargid=pla-319894410883). u/steelgate · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

ohmygosh so I bought this Thermos when I was writing my masters and it fits a full 12 cup pot of coffee and keeps it piping hot for over 24 hours if full (decreases the more you open it and let air in). It comes with a 5 year guarantee and it's fabulous. My friends call it my "NORAD missile watcher Thermos" because of how giant it is, but it's super easy to carry with the carrying strap :)

u/moktor · 2 pointsr/specializedtools

You too can have your own modern mustache mug. My wife got me two for my birthday last year from Amazon:

Now I can look dapper while keeping my mustache from being oversoaked with coffee

u/ess_tee_you · 2 pointsr/whisky

My wife bought these on Amazon about a year ago. I use them very regularly as they quickly became my favorite glasses.

They're dishwasher safe, no marks after many uses and washes, even with large square ice cubes. They have a really good feel to them, and a fairly nice weight to them, too.

I haven't tried any others, but if one of these got broken I would immediately buy the same one as a replacement.

Edit: I promise I'm not a glass salesman.

I would use [this wine glass(http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000O3PZ1M) to help, because I have never been to the snow before and I'm sure I'll be cold. Drinking some wine first would help with that, and then once I've emptied the glass I can use it to scoop snow. u/KEM10 · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

How experimental are they and what kind of beer do they brew?

If the answers are "very" and "mostly hoppy stuff", then I'd look at some experimental hops. Here's one crop in particular from a regular poster around here, and this is the page where you can find all of their sales stuff where the old experimentals live.

Other than that, I have custom pint glasses with "KEM10 Brewing est. 2010" that I love, and a friend has his name on a custom growler.

There's also always a new "correct" way to drink beer. Recently TeKu glasses are that distinction. Previously it was the Spiegelau stout and IPA glasses that were designed with blind taste tests with different breweries. Next up, they're going to reinvent the wheel.

Personally prefer two types of glasses for most of my beers. Either this somewhat weird looking but great to drink from IPA glass: https://www.eebria.com/products/merchandise/cloudwater-brew-co/1869-cloudwater-craftmaster-glass

Or the Teku: https://www.amazon.com/TeKu-Worlds-Best-Beer-Glass/dp/B00F3GMWY8 which truly is the best beer glass.

But sometimes visuals do matter more than practicality, and on those days I will gladly drink from my Kwak glass: https://cookinglife.nl/kwak-bierglas/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgarT9cfB4gIV1MAYCh0aIQhVEAQYASABEgK49PD_BwE

I use a glass similar to a Glencairn for doing side-by-side comparisons and tastings, but I wouldn't say that they work all that well for true wine glasses.

The Gabriel Glas options are outstanding. The Golds are a staple for me along with the Riedel Vinum Bordeaux and Vinum Burgundy. Between those three glasses, I have everything that I need to maximise my drinking pleasure. If you're wanting something cheaper and that work fairly well for many wines, take a look at Riedel's Ouverture Magnum Red.

I use THIS wide mouth thermos to incubate yogurt and it works perfectly. Check out the reviews of it on Amazon, such as

>With the Thermos Nissan container, I did NOT pre-heat the container with boiling water. What I DID do was fill to it the top with microwaved boiling water. I capped it, left it in an 80 degree environment, then waited. After 6 hours, I poured out approximately 16 ounces of hot water. The temperature might have dropped 10 degrees, still leaving the liquid far too hot to consider drinking. Great! After 6 more hours, I poured out another 16 ounces. The water scalded my lip as I tried to sip a few molecules. Hot dog! I have a REAL insulating container here, people! After waiting 6 more hours, I poured out another 16 ounces. The temperature was dropping, but I still had to blow on it before sipping. After 5 more hours, for a total of 23 hours, I poured out the remaining water. The water was now close to my normal drinking temperature, still too hot for most people. Bear in mind that I started out with boiling water, but still...

Not even a mention of the TeKu? The glass was invented to practically replace the standard pint. I feel this list is good, but could use some help.

About the TeKu:
"Teo Musso is the founder of Baladin Brewery in Italy. He collaborated with Italian sensory analysis expert Kuaska to create the Teku glass (the name Teku is an amalgamation of the names ‘Teo’ and ‘Kuaska’.) Musso’s goal in creating the Teku was to come up with an industry standard glass that could be used for the sensory analysis of all kinds of beer. He was inspired by the ISO glass with is the glass that is used to conduct the sensory evaluation of wine. Musso made a range of prototypes and had Kuaska evaluate them all. The resulting glass is both elegant and functional and is carried in many Italian specialty beer bars and brewpubs."

And about about the IPA glass?
"he Spiegelau IPA glass is designed to showcase varying aromatic profiles for the American 'hop forward' IPA beer, preserve a frothy head and volatiles and maintain a comfortably wide opening for the drinker to "nose" the beer"

TL:DR
The list is nice, but missing the specialty glasses that have been engineered for better beer experiences.

OP's glasses are not too bad looking for whiskeys tbh. It will work nicely with a really high proof dram. Why not pick up a set of 2 or 4 glencairn's to go with current glass set as a just in case. You can get similar looking glencairns as well but they cost a lot more. OR not worry about it, i like having different glasses in my collection so maybe this person will too.

This is my go to glass for ALL beers. It makes hoppy ones explode on aroma. Well worth it. Christmas is around the corner. Just sayin ;-)

I bought these double walled rocks glasses from Amazon and I love them for a few reasons:

  • I drink my whiskey with ice and the double walls act like insulation so it takes way longer for the ice to melt and I'm not left with whiskey that's too watered down by the time I get to the bottom of my drink.

  • Condensation doesn't collect on the outside of the glass so I don't have to worry about it dripping in my lap when I pick it up for a drink and it doesn't get my hands all wet.

  • They're big enough for my extra large ice cubes

This looks really cool, also it's fun for everyone!

And This for me because My room needs a Tardis :)

It's just a double-walled whiskey glass. They are available wherever bar glass is sold and on Amazon.

One thing that people seem to ignore — which has never made sense to me, though I did start with wine first — is the importance of the cup/glass. ISO tasting glasses like this small one are my preference for espressos and Turkish coffee; for pourovers, I use larger Bordeaux-shaped glasses. Beer tulips work well too — the point is that the top of the glass should taper in, concentrating the aromas. It also feels completely difference as the coffee moves over the rim and hits your tongue, and for that reason I prefer cut-rim glasses.

I'm not sure whether thin glass/crystal could hold up to near-boiling temperatures though — go for the thicker, cheaper glasses.

Best all purpose tasting glass of all time IMO. Great stout! Cheers.

I love my wooden tote but it is for Growlers. Does he have a stainless steel growler? This one is blank, but many breweries carry them with their logo on them if you know their favorites.

I leave mine in the car for beer emergencies. :D My husband made my tote for me but here is one or two for reference.

You can find them online if you look. there are actually a lot more on amazon now than a few months ago. Search 'Mustache Guard'.

I don't understand the purpose considering most people who tend to really care about scotch use a Glencairn style glass which would never allow for a giant ice ball. Most scotch drinkers I have met simply add a small drop of water to open up their scotch or drink it straight. If you're buying expensive scotch, the likelihood of adding water or ice at all becomes increasingly unlikely.

u/fireflygirlie · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I think my Reddit is messed up. I don't get orange envelope notifications when people comment on my posts... But anyway, yeah, opening wine can be a bitch. Especially when you've had a long hard day and all you want is to relax with a nice glass of wine and your shit won't open!

u/Razzerc · 1 pointr/zelda

I tried ordering this mug from that site or a similar one and my bank restricted the purchase due to a security issue, but I was able to find it on amazon. The pictures in that link look questionable too, with the portraits being much shorter than what they really are on the mug.

I would personally recommend from amazon instead, just from my personal experience. I absolutely love the one I have!

That one had no reviews, but a similar model is very highly rated. If possible I'd get one from a vendor with a good return policy and check it out. I'm guessing it would be great based on the reviews I read for this one:

Good luck!

u/bourbonamator · 1 pointr/bourbon

Glencairn for new stuff, or if I really like the nose on a particular bourbon otherwise I use a plain old fashioned glass. If I'm enjoying a barrel strength over some ice, I use these glasses with giant ice cubes made in these trays .

AFAIK, they aren't in production anymore so I think whatever you find is basically what some person has in their little store.

I fill it up before bed. Always a cold swig in the middle of the night. I've given up bottled water since it cools off too quickly. I take this thing with me everywhere. Warm water is the worst.

glasses

TL;DR - Standard answer, the Glencairn glass (the official {Scotch} Whisk(e)y glass). My current favorite though is the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses available HERE

I'm by no means an expert, but I have tried many different shapes of glassware over the years... So, here are some of my experiences.

The standard highball/lowball, with their straight 🥃 (or even at times obtuse _/ ) sides, allows for too much area for many of the aromatics in the whisky to disperse and even escape, making the whisky very bland and uninteresting, thereby "weakening" or "taming" it a bit. Hence, this is where most people start.

Something with a bit of a bowl or tulip (_) to it is kind of the next step up. This helps to concentrate the aromas and can help to bring out some of the subtleties of a good whisky.

Then there is the Glencairn style glasses, which kind of combine the previous two. It is a slightly bowled base with the straightened tip of a lowball. This is the official Scotch Whisky glass, and does a really great job at really getting you intimately close with your whisky, bringing out even the slightest nuances. However, to me, this can be a bit much for whisky that is a little heavy on the nose.

So, the 3 different glasses that I have tried that use a very similar shape to the Glencairn, but widen the rim up a bit, thereby taming the nose ever so slightly, are the Canadian Glencairn, the Norlan, and the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses.

The Canadian Glencairn is a great glass but there are two things that bug me a bit about it. First off, it is slightly awkward to drink out of, as you nearly have to put the glass vertical before anything comes out. The second, much more minor issue, is that your hand is right on your whisky only separated by a very thin layer of glass, which will lead to warming up your whisky. Which you may or may not enjoy.

Then came the Norlan glass. It is essentially a Glencairn glass with some aerators in the bowl housed in a double walled tulip shaped glass, that way your hand will not warm up your whisky with a lingering enjoyment of a good dram. However, again, to me, it is just slightly awkward to sip from.

Enter the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses. And mentioned above, this is currently my favorite glass to enjoy a nice dram in. It is essentially a Glencairn this has an opening that is about 1.5 times the diameter (which can tame a slightly heavy nosing whisky just the right amount), and then a nice lowball type weight at the bottom of it. So, it feels great in the hand, and you don't have to have your hand right on the whisky if you don't want to. It also feels much more natural to sip from.

The link to the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses is at the top, but here are some links to some legit Glencairns.

The original Glencairn - 2 pack, 4 pack, or 6 pack

I would recommend that you use either the seller Stock Your Home or Our Pampered Home, as they both sell the official legitimate Glencairn glassware, and tend to be one of the lowest priced ones as well. There are a substantial amount of fakes out there! So, here are the same links, but for Stock Your Home (if available).

Original - 2 pack, 4 pack, or 6 pack

And then for Our Pampered Home (if available).

Original - 2 pack, 4 pack, or 6 pack

(Sorry for the delayed post, I've had a busy past couple of days)

All the best... Enjoy!

The shipping costs are worse than the glassware itself in many cases. I also used short heavy duty 250ml beakers as old-fashioned glasses for awhile. I just found these which look to be basically the same thing without the gradations.

[edit] Oops, those are double walled, not extra thick borosilicate. Still cool though.

Ugh. If it's just ONE stitch, you might be able to ladder it back up with judicious use of a crochet hook? After a washing and wear or two the tighter stitches should even out. Unless there are increase/decrease complications, in which case I just recommend you grab a glass of wine (I recommend this one personally) and tie off the dropped stitch.

u/ivtecdoyou · -1 pointsr/beer

If you're drinking an IPA drink it from the Spiegelau IPA Glass. Almost anything else can be drank from a Stemmed Pilsner.

Only exception imo are heavy abv bourbon barrel(or other heavy barrel aged) beers. For those I go with a Teku
