They're selling it again. You can buy it online or maybe find it in a store. The gas station near me sells a 16oz can for $1.

Amazon also sells Bawls, you can get 'em in in a can or bottles.

You make fun of it, but I have Death Wish coffee in my pantry, which has pretty much identical labeling.

Well they do still have the limited edition jones soda one on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Nuka-Cola-Quantum-Fallout-Jones/dp/B016ZEGTBS

This already exists: There's a Jones soda branded as Nuka Cola Quantum that appears to be officially licensed, There also used to be a company at http://www.nukacola.eu that sold different Nuka Cola flavors (I think there was at least classic, Quantum and Victory) but it looks like that website doesn't exist anymore.

American here. Best bet is Amazon.com here

It has a sort of rusty look to it with a citrus/bubblegum flavor, at least that's the best I can describe it. Definitely

I would rather see Jolt cola make a comeback. I hate all this Red Bull energy drink junk (and the copycats). It makes me feel like shit after a few hours.

Apparently, they still make it, but it's not in any stores here.

I know what you are dealing with, and I'm so sorry that you're going through it.

What I've found helpful is to try making different levels of effortlessness for various daily tasks. Basically, it's just having contingency plans that I can implement as needed. Making them pleasant is also important.

For example, here are my breakfast contingencies:

  • DEFCON 5: Use whiskware to make protein pancakes. (1 cup of water+1 cup of pancake mix+1 optional egg, shake it up, squeeze onto skillet, and eat; add chocolate chips, blueberries, or whatever you want if you're in the mood.) Or make scrambled eggs and toast.
  • DEFCON 4: Oatmeal of choice (tip: no need to measure water precisely, just pour some boiling water directly from a kettle to make it as thick or thin as you like) or some healthyish cereal with oat milk (because oat milk keeps longer than dairy milk, which means fewer surprises, and tastes the most like dairy milk out of all the options)
  • DEFCON 3: Instant oatmeal cup, Kodiak to-go cups, etc. These cups are great to have on hand, and lots of brands make lots of kinds of them. Go wild.
  • DEFCON 2: Tsogo in a blender bottle, or whatever meal replacement powder you prefer (BlendRunner can help you compare options)
  • DEFCON 1: Soylent meal-in-a-bottle, Ensure Complete, Met-Rx meal replacement bars, or any equivalent zero preparation product that's specifically meant to be a complete meal replacement, because you need the nutrients and calories when things are this tough. (Beware the really small, cheap meal bars. They're too small to be satisfying, so you end up eating a bunch and it doesn't save money.)

Another thing that really helped me a lot was learning to drink more water. For almost everybody, this sounds as simple as just grabbing a water bottle and making an effort to change habits. It probably doesn't even occur to them that this might need to be streamlined for people like us.

    For me, here's what worked:

  • The right water bottle is big enough that you won't need to get up to refill it often, insulated well-enough that the small pleasure of ice can be added before you go to sleep and still be there in the morning, and – perhaps most importantly, I found – has a lid that doesn't even require you to open it when you want a sip (because people like us really do need to save every spoon possible)
  • The right ice tray doesn't require you to ever wrestle with it. You don't need to get rid of your other ice trays, but silicone ones will never cling too hard to the ice. This makes you more likely to get the ice, and the ice (if you're like me) will make the water more pleasant, and making it more pleasant makes it require less mental effort to get yourself to reach over to take a sip.
  • The right reminder won't require you to press a button to deactivate an alarm, won't ever make you scramble to turn it off so you don't wake up your roommate, and can be ignored relatively easily (just turn it to face away) so that you're still in control.

These are all things that require spending some money upfront, but are cheap to maintain.

Basically, the strategy is to accept that you're already doing what you can to help yourself, so making the tasks easier will let you do more and live better with your limited energy. Having contingencies that accept how bad some days can be will help to keep one very bad day from turning into a very bad week because you won't need to stretch yourself to get something done when you can least "afford" to do so.

Don't be embarrassed or ashamed by the lengths you need to go to in order to live decently. Others won't get it, but we both know that you're already used to people not really understanding.

If you want to talk more and exchange ideas about more ways to "save spoons," then just let me know. Good luck!

For all you people wondering which green tea to drink, let me introduce you to

This motherfucker right here.

Matcha is not only the best possible green tea you can have, but it's also delicious. I reuse the bag about 3 times before it starts tasting watered down, but it hardly ever gets that over-used teabag taste. And don't let the Kirkland Signature turn you off, it's still genuine matcha.

Also, you'll only like it if you like green tea in general. I've had a coworker who hates the stuff, but loves things like peppermint and sugar in her green tea (???)

Edit: I also recommend black tea. If you've tried milk tea, you've basically had black tea, except without sugar and milk. Green tea has more antioxidants than black tea, but in my opinion, black tea tastes better than green.

No. I was thinking more along the lines of frugality is a means for personal joy and financial freedom. And r/frugal has become a bragging post on how not to spend money at all. Not cheapness, not frugality, but bragging. A display of anti-largess.

I'm feeling r/frugal should be a way for people to help each other see into life habits and change them. How showing me what was pulled out of a dumpster doesn't make me want to jump into a dumpster

If you're trying to build some muscle, it definitely is important to get enough calories. So if you've calculated your goal intake at 1515/day and you want to add a swim, you should increase your intake to account for that.

As for learning the lifts, I'd start with very basic stuff like bench press, squat, deadlift, and maybe shoulder press. There should be loads of video tutorials on YouTube for this, but proper form is extremely important to minimize risk of injury so don't be too shy about asking someone to check your form in the gym. Most good lifters will be happy to help out with spotting and/or form-checking once in a while, just try not to ask the same guy for stuff all the time or it might get annoying. The biggest single piece of advice I can give to new lifters on form is this: If your muscles are sore the next day, you're probably doing it right. If your bones or joints are sore the next day, you're probably doing something wrong.

As for getting adequate protein as a vegan, that may be your biggest challenge. This stuff is awesome, this stuff isn't bad, and this is a good recipe for a high-protein seitan.

Good luck!

I am assuming that you're trying to make the Thai iced tea served in restaurants and bubble tea shops? If so, this mix is what you're looking for :3 It's already got the tea and spices mixed in. In trying to find a recipe online to make my own blend, this brand came up over and over, and I have to admit, it really does taste exactly the same. I've since found it in several different Asian markets, so if you have one locally, you may want to try there first. It takes a fairly high tea to water ratio, because it needs to be very strong, and you will need to get a can of sweetened condensed milk to pour in after it's chilled.

I commented earlier in the thread but I'm a strong proponent of Soylent as well.

I suggest trying both the powder and the liquid. Powder is much cheaper($1.83 powder vs $2.63 liquid per 400kcal), but that won't do you much good if it just sits in your pantry because you don't want to clean the container to mix up a new batch and wait for it to sit.

If you end up going liquid, it's now available on Amazon Launchpad - https://www.amazon.com/Soylent-Ready-Drink-Food-Bottles/dp/B01EUEIL3E?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

If you set up a subscription for either the powder or the liquid on soylent.com, you get 5% off. If you subscribe to the liquid on amazon, it's 5% off, but if you subscribe to 5 items on amazon it goes up to 15% off.

I know this looks like a shill post, but I really have no association with soylent other than finding their product to be a real benefit to me. With that said, check out /r/soylent as well, because one thing that really makes me love Soylent is they really don't care about people making DIY copies or even competing with them, so there are a lot of soylent clones out there and if you're not in america some of those other ones will be easier to get. A lot of the clones have more flavor options which I'd love to try, but if you are in america, most of the clones are much more expensive to ship here.

You can of course flavor soylent yourself however you want as its very neutral, both powder and liquid. With the liquid I like to squirt in some chocolate syrup and just shake it in the bottle. With the powder, flavored protein powder works well if you know what you're doing (e.g you arent depending on the bottle being 400kcals /trying to use it to track your intake closely), and blending the powder with some fresh fruit is a good way to go. Though I most often just drink it as is, it's not bad, it's just not good, it's just..what you need.

I eat a lot of "snacks" as meals, so these are my ideas for chow on the go without a fridge:

  • Almonds

  • Celery

  • Raw Broccoli

  • Peanut Butter

  • Quest Bars

  • ElectroMix (to keep those electrolytes in check)

  • Bacon

  • Hunters Sausage or any low carb jerky

  • Romaine lettuce wrapped meat & cheese sandwiches

  • Cream Cheese wrapped in salami (you can freeze these overnight, then throw them into the cooler and they should defrost by when you want to eat them)

  • Egg muffins (again, you can freeze overnight & they thaw)

  • Coconut oil in coffee. I use something like this or you could use a mason jar to be able to shake the coffee/oil to keep it from separating. If you drink it in the morning, you can use heavy cream too so you don't have to refrigerate it.

Regarding your question about helping the environment: http://thevegancalculator.com/ <-- Go here and put in "1 year" into the calculator. Just one year, you're saving almost half a million gallons of fresh water, 15 THOUSAND pounds of grain, 11 THOUSAND square feet of forest and 7 THOUSAND pounds of carbon dioxide (compared to a typical animal-including diet). The calculator is supported by sources. Just by changing a few minor things about your lifestyle, you can have an incredibly drastic impact on the world.

TL;DR regarding expense and difficulty - if you live in a very rural area in the USA, it can take some difficulty to find a good source of cheap bulk beans / lentils / vegetables / bulk (by weight) dried veggies. But they're sooooooo cheap; normally you can eat for $1-2 a day, plus B12 vitamin expenses ($5 a month).

Longer explanation regarding expensive/difficult: Expense is very low; I pay much less now for food than before going vegan. Difficulty may vary depending on where you live. I happen to live in Denver, and it's very easy for me to find pretty much any substitute/vegetable I want. If you cook your own meals, there's really nothing different about cooking vegan - just use vegetable oil/avocado oil instead of butter, and buy veggies instead of meat. That's about it. Just make sure you eat a lot of beans or lentils or tofu.

When I first became vegan, I was hit with the reality of vitamin/protein differences - I needed to purchase some vitamin supplements. Here's the list I have:

  • Vitamin B12 (vegan source) - $5 a month - https://www.amazon.com/Deva-Vegan-Vitamin-Dissolve-Lozenges/dp/B001GAOHTS
  • Protein Powder - $22 a month - https://www.amazon.com/Orgain-Organic-Protein-Chocolate-Packaging/dp/B00J074W94

These two made a big difference in my life. About 3 months after going vegan I started having some troubles related to protein (I work out a lot and my body wasn't used to the lower intake). I try to hit about 90g of protein a day (I am a reasonably athletic 6' male). I think a lot of vegans downplay the issues involved with protein - it's the source of a TON of jokes in the vegan community - but the truth is a lot of vegans simply don't get enough protein. And then they fall back into eating meat because they didn't know better. Which is really pretty silly because it's incredibly easy to supplement if you can't get it in your diet.

Other than what I've mentioned above, here's some things to consider (this list is HEAVILY biased towards a lazy, no-cook approach. If you have any cooking skill, just cook your own veggie meals, they're awesome, cheaper and fresher than anything listed below, but this is for the lazy days):

  • If you like cheese, vegan cheese substitutes cost about the same as dairy cheese
  • If you like milk, vegan milk (ANY type) is typically cheaper, better for you, and better for the environment than dairy milk
  • Most oils, spices, salts, flavorings - are already vegan. There's no real change needed here. Butter costs more than vegetable oil anyway.
  • Most BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, spicy sauce, etc - all vegan generally.
  • Most chips and junk food is already vegan. Except for the "flavored" sour cream/cheese type chips.
  • If you like easy food/frozen food, Target sells a whole boatload of vegan microwave stuff (Gardein and others). "Chicken" nuggets, Fried "fish" sticks, "Chicken" wings, etc. Even Ben & Jerry's has a bunch of dairy-free vegan ice cream.
  • Speaking of dessert, vegan desserts are cheaper and easier to make (and safer!! you can lick the spoon - no eggs!). And they taste way better.
  • If you like burgers/hot dogs, check out Beyond the Meat. It's now cheaper than beef and is freaking amazing. They even sell it at Target now.
  • Most bread is already vegan (just check the label). Vegan bread is generally cheaper than non-vegan.
  • Most cereal is already vegan (just check the label).
  • Most restaurants in the US charge less for veggie-based items. Although it is VERY true that you'll have a much more restricted menu choice.
  • Fries are generally vegan, except for a few places (McDonalds, Buffalo Wild Wings, Smash Burger are the only ones around here that don't have vegan fries)

Finally, there are a few things I'd like to point out in MY PERSONAL OPINION that might turn you "off" of vegan foods if you try them off the bat (a lot of people buy terrible choices and then say "vegan alternatives are bad". No, they are just poor choices lol)

  • Avoid buying Daiya products if you want a realistic cheese/dairy alternative. They are the lowest common denominator. They are readily available everywhere for cheap, but they don't taste very good. Try to find Miyoko's or Follow Your Heart instead.
  • Some substitute items are coconut based, or cashew based, or oat based, or whatever-based. There is a reason that 50 alternatives exist. Some people like some, some people like others. You know how you go to the store, and there are 50 different BBQ sauces, and the ONE you like is sold out, and you're super bummed? Yeah, same thing for vegan items - brand differences, tastes, and preferences exist - just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's any different than other products. Too many people say "vegan food" when really that lump-category doesn't exist.

The best advice I can give is to JUST TRY IT. Just go a few days making vegan food. You don't need to say "I'M GOING VEGAN", you don't need to have some public moment - you can just privately try it out. It's pretty fun!

My typical recovery drink is a protein smoothie (Vega protein powder, frozen berries, and water or almond milk).

Also recently I discovered Vega Recovery Accelerator, which I think works very well. It is more convenient than a smoothie when I am not at home.

This is the brand I use, the whole bag makes 4ish gallons and takes about 4-8 hours depending on how strong you want it. I just use a large stock pot and stir it every 20 min or so but there is a mesg holder you can get for the tea if you aren't going to be around to stir it e enough

Blegh. I got some lite salt last weekend and tried pouring it into my water because I have heard people say they do that. Apparently I should have put some flavoring in there, because even though I thought it was a small amount of salt for 24oz of water, it was pretty much salt water. And I was determined to drink it! So, that was gross.

This stuff: Elctro-Mix is my godsend right now. It has ZERO calories & carbs and it isn't crazy sweet like other powders. It has a tart flavor, I hate when drinks are super sweet and fake tasting. I drink 1 in the morning with 12oz of water, and keep a pack on me jic I crash during the day.

  • Whenever a vendor has a tea they list as "silver needle", you can safely assume there's going to be a price markup. Ignore teavana's white teas - the cheaper/better tasting teas will come from smaller tea vendors.
  • I've tried many green tea brands, but the one that sticks out the most is Kirklands Matcha Blend. This is my go-to green tea nowdays. It's cheaper to buy at costco instead of amazon though. It's a blend of matcha powder and tea leaves.

I use a coffee based rub at my places for braised pork shoulder. However I use [instant espresso] (http://www.amazon.com/Medaglia-DOro-Instant-Espresso-Coffee/dp/B002BTI9B0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407518248&sr=8-1&keywords=instant+espresso). the rub is made up of the coffee, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Never tried it on short ribs, but its very tasty, the coffee is subtle though.

u/scrooched_moose · 4 pointsr/Cooking

Basically, yeah. I use this one (although that's an absurd price).

I don't see why you couldn't use instant coffee, although I'd bump it to 1.5tsp because it's a little weaker. I use 2tsp of espresso powder when I make this because I like getting a little more coffee flavor.

u/herbivorous-cyborg · 4 pointsr/nutrition

I am 6'1" and 135lbs. I have a hard time consuming enough calories with regular foods so I use Soylent to make up the extra calories. I drink 2 bottles of Soylent per day (Each bottle is 14oz) which equates to 800 calories total. That means I only need 400 calories for each of my 3 meals per day unless I expend a lot of calories through exercise.

You were probably looking at listings from unauthorized resellers, which is a common mistake because Amazon does fuck-all to clarify if you're looking at the real listing or not.

You're better off bookmarking the correct page since Amazon makes it so difficult to find: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EUEIL3E/

Any other 2.0 listing you might find is an unauthorized reseller, and at the current time any listing for any Soylent product other than 2.0 is also unauthorized. They did have bars officially listed for a while, and I think they're working on Coffiest. Also, if the page doesn't say "Amazon Launchpad", you're definitely in the wrong place.

The base Amazon price and the base website price are always identical. The Soylent website offers a 5% discount for subscriptions; Amazon offers a base 5% discount for subscriptions but it rises to 15% if you have 5 or more Subscribe & Save items shipped to you in your monthly shipment. You can do this with 5 boxes of 2.0, but you have to do 5 individual subscriptions; it won't count if you do 1 subscription with a quantity of 5.

You can get the same 15% discount on the Soylent website with the 5% subscription discount + 10% coupon discount; there are permanent 10% coupon codes and occasional larger coupon codes, but they only apply to the first shipment of the subscription so you have to constantly cancel and re-subscribe. Amazon is a lot simpler, plus a lot of people have credit cards that give cash back on Amazon purchases.

As far as snacks or packed lunches, I used to bring a PB&J sandwich to work for breakfast and a hummus wrap for lunch. I would prepare them both in 10 min before leaving for work. You can add almost literally anything to a hummus wrap, I would add pretty much anything I had in my fridge; usually avocado and tomato but I've done hummus+peppers+lettuce and even hummus+banana!

Trader Joe's Cuban Style Black Beans are cooked and come with green peppers, onions, garlic, and other spices. All you need is a can opener and you can eat them straight out of the can, or heat them in a microwave if you don't want them cold (in a microwave-safe dish). Add them to a tortilla with lettuce, tomatoes, and/or guac and you have a 10-second burrito.

Lately I've been supplementing my meals with Soylent, which has helped me a lot (I've been trying to gain weight). It's great when I'm in a rush and just want to grab something as I'm heading out the door.

This is a recipe that's a staple in my household, you pretty much just throw everything in a pot and leave it for several hours:

Super tasty chili recipe:

· 1/2 cup quinoa, rinsed & cooked according to package directions

· 1 onion, chopped

· 3 cloves garlic, minced

· 1 jalapeno, diced (optional, see note about heat level in directions)

· 1 carrot, peeled & chopped

· 2 celery stalks, chopped

· 2 bell peppers (any color), chopped

· 1 zucchini (large), chopped

· 3 cans beans, drained & rinsed (suggested: black, kidney, great northern)

· 2 cans diced tomatoes

· 15 oz tomato sauce

· 15 oz condensed tomato soup

· 1 Tbsp cumin

· 3 Tbsp chili powder

· 1/4 cup brown sugar

· 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

· salt & pepper

Saute onions and garlic in large pot until soft. (NOTE: If you are using a slow-cooker instead of the stove top OR are planning on letting chili simmer for 3+ hours, just throw the onions and garlic in raw & skip this step. If you are making the chili for a faster turn-around than 2 hours, save yourself the onion breath and sauté! Planning to consume between 2 and 3 hours? Hmm Good Luck…)

Add all veggies to pot and stir; i.e. jalapeno, carrot, celery, bell pepper and zucchini. If you like a little bit of heat, leave all the seeds in the jalapeno & rough chop it (you can handle it). But if you don’t like any bite at all, then remove the seeds.

Add cooked quinoa to pot and stir.

Add spices and base to pot and stir; i.e. canned tomatoes (with juices), tomato soup, cumin, chili powder, brown sugar, cayenne, salt & pepper to taste

Add rinsed beans. Stir.

Let simmer on low for multiple hours, until vegetables are desired level of crunchy/soft.

NOTE: This is the original recipe we used, but since then we vary the vegetables and basically just throw in whatever we have/feel like. For instance, sometimes we do potatoes instead of quinoa. Also, we never use jalapeno peppers, I think my bf just uses more tomato sauce instead of tomato soup, and we always just use garlic powder rather than fresh cloves.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's situation. As a fellow TBI sufferer who still deals with all the associated bullshit on a daily basis, and as a fellow son of a mother with less-than-ideal mental/cognitive health, my heart goes out to you both. Biiiiig post coming up. I know you frequent /r/nootropics and similar subs so sorry if I'm just telling you stuff you already know.

It goes without saying that it would be ideal if you could get her to consult a specialist about her condition, preferably a good neurologist and psychiatrist who can work together to develop a medication, supplementation, diet, exercise, general lifestyle etc. regimen tailored specifically to her. If you have the means to do so, make it happen.

First things first, it would obviously be incredibly beneficial if you could convince her to cut out or drastically reduce her alcohol consumption. It sounds likely that she's self-medicating for depression related to her head injury and its consequences (I was there for a long time), so you might see about getting her onto a prescribed antidepressant. (Side note: it is crucial that she see a good psychiatrist to discuss taking any prescription psychiatric medication. Despite being legally allowed to prescribed many potent psychoactive drugs, GP's simply do not have the expertise necessary to make a good diagnosis and prescribe accordingly. Chances are if you ask for an antidepressant they'll just give you whatever a major pharma company shill most recently gave them samples of. Speaking from experience.) If you don't want to bring in the "big guns" so to speak just yet, then bacopa monnieri might be a good place to start. Very mild, very well tolerated, with a host of nootropic benefits to boot - it's known to improve memory significantly after about 3 months of supplementation. I started taking it about a month ago and for me personally it's been amazingly helpful; I can't wait for the memory enhancement to kick in. If it keeps on working like it has been, I don't think I'll ever stop taking it.

If you don't think she'll ever be willing to go completely sober, then make sure she's minimizing the harmful effects of alcohol with MisterYouAreSoDumb's damage/hangover prevention stack. (mind that NAC should always be taken before drinking, not during or after.)

I recommend trying to get her to replace alcohol with something less harmful, maybe every second drinking day or something at first. The obvious recommendation is marijuana, though as you're undoubtedly aware there are a ton of possible downsides to weed use as well. In the long run though, from a cognitive health point of view, it's far safer. If you're able to, get a few strains with different cannabinoid profiles for her to try so she can decide what she likes best - a high CBD/low THC strain (typically indicas) is probably more similar to alcohol than high THC, though it's still very different. If you decide to go with weed, make sure she's actively endeavouring to replace alcohol with it, rather than just adding it to her usual booze usage. Make edibles, extracts, or get her a vape if smoking doesn't appeal to her.

Then there's Kava. Its effects are probably a little closer to alcohol's than weed (though again, quite different) and it's much easier to get your hands on as it's legal pretty much everywhere (and easy enough to get through customs if you're somewhere lame like Australia). A good, affordable "beginner's" kava that she can try to see if she likes the effects is Yogi Tea's Stress Relief Tea
, as it's heavily flavoured and thus masks the acquired taste/feeling of kava pretty well. To really get a "drunk" feeling from it though, you may need to use 3 or 4 bags. Brew it in coconut milk or half water/half coconut cream to make it especially tasty. Or, if she's willing to tolerate the taste, go straight for a high quality source like Hawaiian Kava and brew it traditionally. Just make sure that she doesn't have any alcohol in her system whenever she uses it, as apparently that's a dangerous combo.

Also, if she does decide to quit booze at any point, make sure she does so safely.

Now, as for things to take... I'm still trying to perfect a regimen myself.

Over on the NeuroTalk forum, home to one of the largest online community of concussion and TBI sufferers, the recommended stack, as put together by the granddaddy of the forum, Mark of Idaho, is as follows:

>B-12 (500 to 1000 mcgs daily)
a B-50 complex, for all the other B's so you get a good balance of B's
a high potency multi-vitamin like GNC Mega Women/Men. Centrum and One a Day are too weak.
Niacin, 200 to 500 mgs
Some extra anti-oxidants, Vit C and Vit E
D3, plenty of this, 1000 to 5000 iu's
Omega 3 fish oil, with a proper balance of Omega 6 and 9
Calcium with magnesium, 500 mgs per day
I also have added
Curcumin (pricy but worth it) 950 mgs daily This is a Turmeric extract
DHEA, 25 mgs , a hormone that helps the body balance the other hormones, If your skin gets oily try 1/2 of a 25 mgs tablet. I only take a half of a tablet.
a Costco High Energy multipack (7 pieces) in place of the multi-vitamin
I have recently added:
Cayenne capsules
Resveratrol, it is supposed to help the Omega 3 fish oil work better
Garlic capsules for cholesterol
L-theanine for GABA regulation

I don't know that it's perfect but it's probably a good place to start. I think he might be going overboard with the amount of B vitamins in there... As long as she's taking the full dosage of a good multivitamin like Source Naturals Life Force (gets pretty pricey at 4 capsules a day, my approach is to take half the recommended dose and then add in a sensibly-dosed B complex. Any complex that uses methylfolate instead of folic acid should be of good quality.) she should be all set for B vitamins. Curcumin to reduce any residual inflammation is probably a good idea too - it's pretty pricey though. Make sure to get pills with added piperine, and I've seen it recommended that you take it with a fat source as well.

This thread, though more specifically targeted at treating a brain injury immediately after it's happened, is a great resource. Anything that's good for the immediate effects of a brain injury is probably going to be beneficial in the long term as well.

Oh! Also, the uridine stack. I don't recall the exact theory behind it, but it gets a lot of buzz as a means of preventing/reducing dementia/alzheimer's/general cognitive aging, so much so that somebody turned it into a drink which they now make a buttload of money from.

I'm super tired so I'm gonna just wrap this up neatly now... Might come back to edit it, but you're probably sick of reading crap from me as it is! For your mom, neurogenesis is king now, pretty much. Help her give her brain what it needs to heal and grow, and keep it away from things that hinder or harm these processes (booze, stress, poor diet/lifestyle, etc.). Lion's Mane is a good start, but I'd highly recommend looking into Cerebrolysin (requires injection), possibly P21 (like a refined Cerebrolysin, but very new to the market, so kinda risky), Semax (typically injected but if you send an email to [email protected] and ask nicely they'll be able to hook you up with a nasal spray), Noopept (should be taken sublingually), piracetam (has been studied fairly extensively for post-TBI, seems quite beneficial), NSI-189, etc. Supplement-wise, this kind of stuff is probably going to be the most beneficial for your mom in the long run. I recommend checking out this post by user Rior on Longecity about recovering from brain damage. It's a thread about MDMA-related damage, but his advice is quite general and is based on his own experience with recovering from multiple concussions.

Whew! Definitely wasn't planning to write that much, haha. Really hope I've been of some help man. Best of luck to you and your mom.

I add them to water and it tastes like a sports drink. It's very helpful if you're used to sodas and don't think you can drink water alone. I would stick to one packet a day and then make sure to eat potassium rich foods like avocado and spinach.

I think the taste is slightly better, it has a certain natural sweetness to it. It is a cousin to Yerba and comes from a similar region, so its very comparable. The main reason I bring it up though is because you wanted to mix L-theanine with your Yerba. Unlike Yerba, Guayusa naturally has L-theanine in it. Honestly, Guayusa is probably my favorite beverage. Not OP, but I used to drink generic, regular coffee with 2 creams, 2 sugars. After trying "better" coffee and playing around with the Keurig at work, you begin to appreciate the actual blends and boldness of coffees, whereas adding creamer and sugar actually ruined the taste(s) for me. Aka different blends, stronger roasts, etc etc.

I've tried pretty much every vegan protein powder out there, and my top favorites are Garden of Life Greens & Protein and Orgain Organic Protein-- both in chocolate. I've tried Aloha recently and was not thrilled with the flavor or texture at all, so I'd skip that brand. Vega is okay but is more expensive than the rest and is not organic, so I just crossed it out on my list.

If you need to add more protein and require a vegetarian option, I'd just suggest quinoa, beans, legumes, eggs, and nuts. I've been a vegetarian for more than half of my life, and those have always been my go-to's. But if having issues eating in general is hard, just do a double serving of protein powder a day (in a green smoothie for extra calories/nutrition) to meet those goals.

u/Marcus_Petronius · 3 pointsr/financialindependence

I break out with acne every time I drink a whey shake, so I switched to plant-based protein powders a few years ago. I tried a few hemp powders and they tasted awful. I found a powder I really like from the Orgain brand. It's comparable in taste and texture to some of the whey powders I used to drink. They sell it at Costco in Southern California on sale at $24 for 2.74 lbs, which I stock up on, otherwise it's $30 normally. You can also get it off Amazon.

Note: Do not get Vanilla bean, it tastes awful.

You can also build your own blend on their website, it's super easy. And they have a coupon that saves you 5% off site-wide, never expires "GOVEGAN"

I also hear good things about Orgain, but haven't tried it. Saw it on amazon earlier for $17 ($8.50/lb) https://www.amazon.com/Orgain-Organic-Protein-Powder-Chocolate/dp/B00J074W94/?th=1

Tazo Rest is pretty good and will knock you out. Yogi Tea's Kava blend is pretty good too. Personally, I also do really like just straight chamomile, especially if it's loose leaf - tends to have more flavor than the bagged version. Mint is great as well - you can get dried mint, but fresh is great, too. I keep a mint plant in my apartment and occasionally make tea with a few freshly cut sprigs. (It also makes great mint juleps and mojitos...)

I also enjoy a classic Earl Grey with a bit of milk and sugar.

One of my faves is a Jujube/goji/longan berry blend. It's super common here in China, and sometimes hawthorn is included in it, too. It's naturally sweet, but adding a bit of rock sugar can be nice at times.

As for Chai, my favorite blend is Good Earth, but that was an older blend and I'm having trouble finding it online...

Most 711s have little "espresso" shots available for free mixed in with the creamer cups. I usually grab a handful whenever I'm there and add them to cups of coffee at home.

+1 for Guayusa, though I've only had Runa's version. I bought it for the cheap price and favorable Amazon reviews, but Runa claims it has ~90mg caffeine per cup (on par with coffee). I don't feel particularly buzzed with it, so YMMV, but I'm not very sensitive to caffeine anyway.

The taste took some getting used to. Like canadasmith said, it's not actually tea, so I shouldn't be surprised that it doesn't taste the same as orange pekoe or english breakfast. It seemed more "grassy", like some green teas.

I personally like Death Wish Coffee since it gives me a kick in the ass when I'm still feeling groggy after waking up. But it has a very high caffeine content (it claims to be the strongest coffee in the world) so it's not suitable if you have a higher caffeine sensitivity, i.e. it makes you jittery.

I also haven't tried making Death Wish Coffee in a cold brew method, and I imagine that the concentrate made from it would be very potent in terms of caffeine. Beware!

We use these biodegradable pods:

San Francisco Bay OneCup, Fog Chaser, 80 Single Serve Coffees https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Y59HVM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kkp5xbRPV1H5R

We buy them at Costco and my coffee snob DH enjoys them ;)

You can also get a reusable keurig filter and fill it with your own coffee. You just have to not overstuff it, and wash it of course!

u/tksdks · 2 pointsr/financialindependence

Consider the SF Bay Fog Chaser. It's the best kcup I found where the taste isn't so compromising, and is (supposedly) environmentally friendly!

u/RBXChas · 2 pointsr/keto

I used the reusable K-cup thingie in my home Keurig, and it never worked right after that (we ended up replacing it shortly thereafter). I thought it was just bad timing, so I used it in our office one, and we had to buy a new office one then, too. I don't know why, but I had terrible luck with those.

I buy San Francisco Bay K-cups. I first saw them at Costco (which no longer sells them), loved them, and kept buying through Amazon. They are working towards 100% biodegradable packaging. Their K-cups don't have plastic on the bottom (just a plastic ring), and the bags that hold the K-cups I believe are compostable. My favorite flavors are Fog Chaser and French Roast: https://www.amazon.com/San-Francisco-Bay-Coffee-Compatible/dp/B007Y59HVM

u/Waja_Wabit · 2 pointsr/todayilearned

FYI, you can buy delicious, cheap, completely biodegradable k cups on Amazon. There are also plenty of recyclable brands out there as well.

u/z64dan · 2 pointsr/Austin

That sounds about right for k-cups. That's about 75 cents per cup.

I usually pay between .50 and .60 when I buy k-cups.

You can get them for as cheap as 36 cents each on amazon

Of course, it's still more expensive than grinding and brewing your own coffee (which you can also do anyway with reusable K-Cups), but the convenience factor is what you're paying for.

u/fireline12 · 2 pointsr/Coffee

Get your K-Cups from Amazon, you can get them pretty cheap and in bulk. Personally I like San Francisco Bay Coffee's Fog Chaser blend. Nice bold cup, plus it's fair trade and the k-cup is biodegradable.

u/misterchief117 · 2 pointsr/ThriftStoreHauls

You lucky duck.

I can't be too jealous because I also found a Kuerig at my local Goodwill. It was 12 bucks and pretty much brand new. I think it's the Keurig B40 which only has two cup sizes, which is annoying since they're both small...

The one thing that bugs me about these machines is the fact that they produce so much waste. I ended up getting these K-cups because not only were they the best deal, but they are also bio-degradable. Not only that, it's actually damn good coffee:

you can easily eat a shitton of protein on a vegan diet if you supplement a bit: https://www.amazon.com/Orgain-Organic-Protein-Plant-Based-Chocolate/dp/B00J074W94?ie=UTF8&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00J074W94&linkCode=xm2&psc=1&tag=duckduckgo-d-20

I have faced no challenges other than letting people know you don't need to be anal about macro anything as long as you eat mainly non processed whole grain whole foods low in oils/fats w/ a protein shake or two per day to perform however you want athletically or looks wise

u/bjanaszek · 2 pointsr/climbharder

>

I've used both Orgain and Sunwarrior. The Sunwarrior stuff has BCAAs, while Orgain does not. I find both mix up pretty well in smoothies.

Also, for diet stuff, check out the No Meat Athlete. Lots of good recipes and other info.

Question about soy-based protein: I've heard in some circles that any soy-based product that isn't fermented is basically nutritional garbage. I don't know enough to have a strong opinion either way, but my wife and I tend to avoid it when we can (though will happily eat it when eating out).

u/hornypineapple · 2 pointsr/nutrition
  1. I go a mix of plain and vanilla. ALWAYS unsweetened. They add sugar to it for no reason. It's plenty tasteful without it. Almond milk tastes like drinking an almond. If you haven't' seen the process, imagine soaking shredded almonds in water then straining it. It's pretty good but different. I stopped using milk for several reasons (won't get into it, but dairy in general I cut out a lot of). You can use water and it's not bad, but Almond Milk gives is that extra flavor and more vitamins like you said.

  2. Blueberries, pineapple, bananas (cut up and put into a plastic freezer bag) and mangoes. I used to buy them non frozen and freeze myself, but it's more expensive and makes no sense. Occasionally green apple (not frozen but not a bad idea now that I think about it.) Sometimes I get like a berry mix but usually stick to those. I don't mix them all in and I use very little. At first I used more out of being scared of tasting something gross, but after a while you'll notice you'll want less and less fruit and use just enough to remove the bitterness that is liquefied greens. I can't drink those strawberry/peanut butter/sugar loaded shakes people get anymore. If it's not slightly bitter with a faint hit of fruit (and I mean faint) I don't care for it anymore.

  3. I use pumpkin seeds, flax, almonds (cause why not?) and depending on what kind of shake I make, I will use Almond Butter/Nut butters (Trader Joe's sells cheap butters and they have nothing but nuts). You can use cashews and stuff like that. Whatever kind you snack on you can toss in there. Also depending on what you wanna add nutrient wise you can get them at the store and try them out. You don't really taste them too much, but you get the bonus of eating them.

  4. Mostly each day. I may forget or not be hungry enough. Sometimes for breakfast only, sometimes for breakfast and a light dinner or post workout. The thing about the shakes is they cut the fiber down on the foods almost entirely, so after you drink them you're full for an hour or so then looking for a snack sometimes. Specially after a workout. I make them fresh each time I want one. Making them ahead of time could be nice but a lot of unnecessary work. They take like 3 minutes to make one. Most of that is pulling the stuff out and putting it away.

Once you start making these you'll find what you like/don't like. Start off small with ingredients you trust then work your way into the dark side. If you told me several years ago you drink things that have garlic, broccoli, peas and apples in it, I'd gag. Now, I can't get enough of it.

I don't know if you are into fitness (fitness whole pizza in my mouf!) or just want to be a bit healthier, but either way you will fall in love with this kind of stuff. Specially when you get creative, start making random things and actually notice the difference it makes in everything. I feel more energetic, I am not bogged down or full feeling. If I do feel full, it's light. I wouldn't go for a run after I chug one, but taking a nap is not even near my list of wants after. Without being gross and just blunt, going number 2 is extremely quick, smooth and honestly reassuring your body is liking this (you'll see why).

For protein replacement, I use this: https://www.amazon.com/Orgain-Organic-Protein-Powder-Chocolate/dp/B00J074W94/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1497277026&sr=8-8&keywords=pea%2Bprotein&th=1

It's light, uses peas/spirulina (more greens!) for it's protein and adds a nice kick when you need it. I usually get the vanilla bean, but chocolate isn't bad. They just added Matcha which might be next for me...

Here's what a typical daily shake looks like this for me, workout or not:

  • 3-4 handfuls of frozen kale/chard/spinach PUSHED into the cup (technically I fist it, but let's keep it clean like our diet) until the cup is half full or more
  • A light handful of your fruit of choice. Depending on what you use here, your shake may turn weird colors. My average shake color is dark green. Blueberries dampen the color a lot too, make it almost look like gross mud. But it tastes good, I promise.
  • Sprinkle nuts/extras you want
  • 1-2 scoops of protein (add this last otherwise it'll cake at the bottom)

30 seconds of blending and boom, you're set.
u/Theriley106 · 2 pointsr/vegan

Have you tried this stuff? It's what I use. It doesn't blend as well as Whey did, but it's much better than Vega IMO.

u/J-Dragon007 · 2 pointsr/veganfitness

salted caramel was the first I've tried. Honestly, it probably is the best out of like 8 different protein powder brands/flavors I've tried, but if you don't have the money, this is probably a lot better.

It's unavailable atm, but it costs less than half of vivolife and tastes about the same (granted it's different flavors).

And the answer to your question: not as good as I expected, but still one of if not the best I've tried.

May be easiest to look up the Surge Movement on Facebook, but basically they have persuaded Coca-Cola to make Surge again and currently it is in a "testing" phase where it is being sold on Amazon here. Don't worry, it IS NOT $80-100, there are just some assholes buying cases and reselling it for much more. It is simply out of stock right now, and regularly sells for $14 for a 12 pack of 16oz cans (from Coke themselves). We are happy (the Surge Movement) because it has been in stock twice and it sold out within 2 hours both times because we all love Surge so much. Hopefully Coke brings it back for good!!

u/litteroddity · 2 pointsr/veganfitness

I'm definitely happy that we have so many options nowadays and that there are so many companies that are creating Vegan products.

Really depends on what you're looking for though. Customization is certainly great, but Vega really shines when it comes to creating high-quality innovative products that are formulated with performance, flavor, and whole food ingredients in mind that I actually trust to put into my body. For the most part their products are not supplements, but whole food powders (no synthesized vitamins and mineral blends that come from a lab, amino acid blends, enzyme derivatives etc. but rather non-GMO powdered food ingredients like greens, spirulina, marine algae calcium, acacia gum, real fruits and veggies, etc.). Price-wise there is really a range now too, Protein & Greens is available on Amazon for about $17/lb, and has 20g of protein and 3 servings of greens in a scoop.

u/pezasied · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I rotate between four different protein powders, all are vegan and are sourced from multiple sources (mostly pea, flax, and hemp protein).

My favorite taste wise is the Vega Protein and Greens.

Also from Vega, the Sport Protein is nice, as it has 30 grams of protein per serving vs the 20 per serving in the protein and greens. However, Vega changed the recipe for the Sport a few months ago, and now it makes a super thick drink, almost akin to drinking cake batter. I have to split up the serving just so the drink doesn't become too thick.

The Garden of Life Sport Protein also has 30 grams of protein per serving, and isn't as thick as the Vega Sport, but I think it doesn't taste quite as good as the Vega branded stuff. Not bad though.

Lastly, I'll occasionally buy Orgain as it is the cheapest typically, though it has a somewhat grainy texture compared to the others.

I usually just buy whatever of the four are on sale at my local Co-Op, but if you're going to go with one, I'd recommend the Vega Protein and Greens if you're ok with only 20 grams of protein per serving.

Edit: oh didn't realize you have already had the protein and greens, maybe try the Vega Sport? Also, I buy all four exclusively in vanilla, so I can't speak for the other flavors.

For my thai tea I use this https://www.amazon.com/Thai-Iced-Traditional-Restaurant-Style/dp/B00NJS4S6C/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1495113730&sr=1-1&keywords=thai+tea

No need for the evaporated milk, I just brew then pour over ice. Top with HWC and a liquid sugar free sweetener. One cup will come out to be 4.5 grams of net carb. Could be less depending on how much tea you brew. :) In my opinion this tea taste much better than black tea.

u/gamgeestar · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I add this tea mixture to water (1 cup of tea mixture to 4 cups of water, plus 3/4 cup sugar if you like it sweeter) in a French press. Let it steep for 30-60 minutes (the longer you let it steep, the stronger the flavor). I "press" out the tea leaves, then put the mixture in the fridge to let it cool. Add half & half (or basically any kind of milk you want--coconut milk is also good) until it's the color you want. Delicious and saves me lots of money to make it at home!

u/MrsTruce · 2 pointsr/indianapolis

FYI, this is the brand that a lot of restaurants use, and then add evaporated milk. Be sure to get a "tea sock" or you'll end up with leaves in your finished tea, no matter how many times you strain it.

Yeah pretty much what everyone else has been saying. I would recommend a doctor. One thing you might be able to do is try to get her to drink Soylent. It's used a lot here to introduce a complete diet in a case where otherwise someone is eating a limited group of foods. I think it could be good for your sister because each small bottle has 400 calories. It might be useful for slowing down her weight loss due to how calorie hence each bottle is. The "original" flavor tastes like nothingness or they also have flavored versions such as chocolate. Some of those bolthouse farms drinks are really calorie dense too. It may be a way for her to "trick" her mind into feeling like she still isn't eating a lot while still ingesting a lot of calories. If it's orthorexia rather than anorexia she should be happy too because the Soylent bottles only have exactly what the body needs. Five bottles and she would be getting 2000 calories and all her micro and macronutrients. I looked at a calorie calculator and if you can get her at anything over 1,422 she should stop losing weight. 2000 calories a day would be getting her about 1 lb per week back until she starts reaching a more healthy weight. As a heads up given her measurements she has a BMI of 14.64. Anything below 16 is the lowest category which is severe thinness. That's pretty dire medically. I would force her to go to a doctor whether she likes it or not.

You could try adding Soylent or an equivalent nutrient drink to your diet. It's not super filling and one bottle adds another 400 calories to your diet. Drink 2 in one day along with eating and you should be able to start seeing some progress.

u/SirEDCaLot · 2 pointsr/SpaceXLounge

I doubt you're missing anything. The eBay dude probably buys the patches straight from the SpaceX store, and sells them on eBay for a nice markup.

We see the same thing in /r/soylent. Soylent is a meal in a bottle shake that sells direct from the manufacturer (or from Amazon) for about $34 per case of 12 bottles. People still resell it for $22 for 3 bottles. Note that on that second link, the product isn't sold by Amazon, it's sold by a 3rd party. The 3rd party just orders the first link, splits the 12-bottle case up into 4x 3-bottle packs, and sells the 3-packs individually, making $54 for each case they split and resell.

I have no idea why anyone would buy 3 bottles for $22 when you can buy 12 bottles for $34, but apparently some people do.

When I am trying to gain weight I use a nutrient shake called Soylent. It has 400 kcal per bottle and all an appropriate amount of all essential nutrients per calorie. I usually drink 2 bottles per day to add extra calories to my diet. However, in your situation you could add as many as you need. You can usually get 12-packs delivered with next day delivery on Amazon if you have a Prime account: https://www.amazon.com/Soylent-Replacement-Drink-Original-Bottles/dp/B01EUEIL3E

Also, they have flavored versions, but I honestly think the original flavor is the best for general use. Maybe cocoa flavored one on rare occasions. Nectar flavor is awful.

Check out [Soylent](Soylent Meal Replacement Drink, Original, 14 oz Bottles, 12 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EUEIL3E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SDgQybNFG0JZX). Its designed to completely replace food if you want or need it to. It has all the nutrients and vitamins an average person needs, with 400 calories in a bottle. Buying a 12 pack from amazon works out to less than $3 per bottle, and a 2000 calorie diet will put you at 5 bottles per day, for a grand total of less than$15 per day.

The taste is pretty bland (lots of people describe it as the milk left over after eating cheerios), but works great as a base for smoothies. Personally, I use Mio "water enhancers" to flavor it, and those work great too.

Neither Soylent nor Mio require refrigeration. But I will say that Soylent tastes a lot better cold, so maybe pour it into a glass with ice or save up for a mini fridge if using your parents' isn't an option.

I have started drinking Soylent for breakfast, one or two for lunch and then eating a healthy dinner. Soylent has everything I need nutrition-wise, is quick and easy and is portable (in pre-mixed form anyway).

As far as fruit, I have two of the small sugar free cups of fruit that come in the little plastic cups. I don't have the time or energy for fresh fruit. I add a couple drops of liquid sucralose (Splenda) and it's a great, sweet snack before bed.

This may seem like an odd suggestion, but you might want to give Soylent a try. The Cocao and Coffiest flavors are good. Stay away from the Regular and Nectar flavors though. Also keep in mind the Coffiest flavor has the same dose of caffeine as a cup of coffee.

They are about $3.25 a bottle, and each bottle is 1/5 of your daily calories and nutritional needs (400 calories and 20% of every vitamin you can imagine). The wife and I drink one for breakfast and then have a regular lunch. If we can't figure out anything good for dinner we have another.

They don't require refrigeration and keep for a year. Pretty ideal for when you are on a long haul for weeks at a time. They beat the hell of out fast food, that for sure.

u/circlemoyer · 1 pointr/soylent

With the subscribe option, I can save 15% off the ~$60 CAD price tag, which works out to cheaper than from the Soylent website after the abysmal exchange rate we deal with right now, bringing the price to around $50, and Amazon magically doesn't tack on any tax. Came to post tea, was not disappointed.

I've fallen in love with this tea in particular:
Yogi Kava Stress Relief

Subtle calming effect, not to the point of being anywhere close to a 'buzz' or intoxication, but I've found its a perfect way to wind down at night. Even just the ritual of making it and then patiently waiting for it to cool as it gives off its sweet aroma is usually enough to start calming me down.

u/3000Flurbos · 1 pointr/bjj

If you're struggling to get 8 hours a night, you can focus on deepening the sleep you do get instead of sleeping longer.

  • Black out your room at night. This is the biggest one for me. I have cheap blackout shades and I use electrical tape to cover internet routers, smoke alarms - anything that flashes. Get your room dark enough that you can't see your hand in front of your face. Even a little light will fuck with your melatonin production and compromise your sleep quality.

  • If you use electronics at night, download f.lux. It's a free program that removes blue light from your monitor after the sun sets. Your phone should have night mode under settings; turn that on as well. Light in the blue spectrum is the biggest melatonin disruptor.

  • Take 400 mg of magnesium citrate or magnesium glycinate before bed. It eases stress and causes a dramatic increase in sleep quality. Plus, a good percentage of the population is deficient in magnesium, so you could probably use a little extra anyway. If you go for magnesium citrate, start at 200 mg and move up to 400 mg over the course of a couple days. Too much at once will make you shit your pants. Glycinate doesn't have that issue, but isn't quite as bioavailable.

  • Take 300 mcg of melatonin right before bed. Melatonin is a hormone your body uses to encourage deep sleep, and taking it in pill form will knock you right out. It's prescription in the UK, over-the-counter in the US. Most doses are far too high (2-10 mg), and can impair your natural melatonin production if you take them regularly without a break. Stick with 300mcg (linked above); it's the minimum effective dose and won't mess with your hormones long-term.

  • I also drink kava tea on nights when I really can't sleep. It's more for stress relief/anxiety than for sleep, but if you find you have trouble winding down at night it can be a big help. Don't drink alcohol alongside kava; the active compounds, kavalactones, bind to the same brain receptors that alcohol does, meaning the effects of the two stack.

  • Don't take sleeping pills if you can avoid them. I'm not a doctor, and I'm not saying you should ignore your doctor, but sleeping pills don't actually put you into stage 3 and stage 4 sleep (the deep, restorative sleep your brain needs). They can also cause a lot of neurological side effects.

I quit 5 days ago and have been drinking 3 cups a day and it feels as though the anxiety just disappears. I had a panic attack the day I quit and punched a mirror so hard I broke my knuckles. The counselor at the crisis center suggested the tea and it is a miracle. If you are running out of hope like I was, just give it a try. It has relaxed me as much as weed did. Except you don't turn into a zombie like with weed. DONT GIVE UP. The anxiety is coming from your own thoughts. You WILL get though this and we are all here to help.

My daily electrolyte supplements usually look like this:

  • 1 packet of ElectroMix mixed with a teaspoon or 2 of Natural Calm in a glass of water.
  • 1 chicken bullion cube mixed in a tall mug of hot water. (Sometimes I do this twice a day, depending on how I feel.)

The rest of my electrolytes come from food. If I still feel unwell after the above, I may drink another ElectroMix. This seems to be working well for managing my induction.

u/Futureproofed · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

You are! Energy drinks are slightly more high-power caffeinated beverages. Two cans of Coca-Cola will set you back about a dollar and will have more caffeine than one 2-3 dollar Red Bull.

All that other crap in them - especially B vitamins - is not actually useful for energy (unless you like a niacin flush... in which case, do you, I guess) and just make them look more special.

Or there's coffee at the cost of pennies on the dollar, and cheap enhancements like Stok to boost it even more. Or caffeine tabs like No-Doz, which are dirt cheap. Energy drinks are very expensive for what you get.

Unfortunately, I really like how Red Bull tastes (although the international version is better)... so I actually do buy it sometimes.

What about just mixing in espresso powder? Flavor, caffeine, basically no extra calories?

u/doctor_robocop · 1 pointr/food

I wish I was a wizard! I just started experimenting by always making a second batch and adding different things. Oh, I forgot to say with the tiramisu-type ones: add a dash of almond extract.

Some things I've found to be good in 'mallows:

Dehydrated berries, crushed into powder.

Peppermint extract (with or without adding cocoa powder)

Instant espresso

Vanilla bean paste - this has become my standby recipe, sometimes dusted with crushed candy canes.

*Matcha, though I'm still trying to get the balance right for that nice, creamy green tea flavor.

Your marshmallows look gorgeous, by the way!

u/xanderbitme · 1 pointr/Kefir

1 - There's really no need to rinse. Swishing the cage and grains around in the milk of a new batch should be sufficient.

2 - If it works for you, there's nothing wrong with it. I like it to ferment 24 hours, that way I only have to take care of it once a day, and so I don't overproduce and waste milk. Simply reduce the amount of grains you're using for it to take longer.

3 - I'm also on a ketogenic diet. There's really no way of knowing the carbohydrate content of homemade kefir, so I calculate it the same as commercially-produced kefir, about 6g carbs per 1/2 cup (118 ml).

Once I see pockets of whey in the curd (before it becomes fully separated), I remove the grains and let it continue to ferment (secondary fermentation) another 24 hours. At that point it's usually separated, so I just stir it together and refrigerate it. I figure this way I'm reducing the carb content as much as possible. I also only drink 1/2 a cup of kefir a day (1/4 cup morning and night)... I make it in a 2 oz instant espresso jar.

u/ninkatada · 1 pointr/Baking

No, it's a different thing. Here it is: instant expresso powder

When I make my chocolate cake, I mix cocoa powder and instant expresso powder in a bowl and then add boiling water and mix. Then I let it cool and add buttermilk and vanilla extract and those are my wet ingredients (that I then mix with the butter, sugar, eggs, and dry ingredients).

While not a true Camellia Sinensis, guayusa is a great caffeinated holly tea native to Ecuador with natural sweetness. You can check it out here and here. Yaupon holly, a sister plant to guayusa, is also a naturally sweet caffeinated holly native to Southeast North America.

u/Sparke28 · 1 pointr/tea

Anyone that likes Mate should also give guayusa a try. Personally I like how mate feels but not the way it tastes. Guayusa feels very similar but it tastes amazing. I believe they are very similar plants but guayusa is not at all bitter.

Yes!! I completely agree. Just started drinking this stuff in the morning: http://www.amazon.com/Runa-Amazon-Guayusa-Traditional-Tea/dp/B004FSASKU and surprisingly I have really quickly cut my caffeine consumption down to 1-2 teas a day instead of 200-400mg caffeine. Really digging it.

Also in regards to Lions Mane, I have looked into that and would like to try it but have held off since mushroom powders are so expensive (and it feels very important to me to get organic, quality powder). Currently planning on switching to this stuff once my reishi runs out http://www.mushroomharvest.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=39&products_id=201 .

I agree on the body weight thing, helps quite a bit. Lately I've been using pre-ground (Deathwish). u/CatEarsAndButtPlugs · 1 pointr/vegan

Vegan athlete here who bikes, runs, rock climbs, and lifts. I get about 90-100 grams of protein a day (I'm also very small) and it's not hard.

There's a ton of brands that make plant based protein powders instead of whey. Vega is a very common one, but the consistency is a little thick. Orgain protein powder is tasty but doesn't have the best protein to carb ratio for my macros. I'm currently working through the Kaizen vanilla vegan protein powder which is 140 calories a scoop and 25g of protein I think. I also have a ride based protein powder that's 110 calories a scoop with 31g of protein but does need to be mixed with some fruit to make it taste good. Also make sure to mix your drinks with plant/nut milks for a better taste. You can buy large bags of protein powder off myprotein and there's a few vegan options. A lot of these protein powders list amino acid ratios on the tub and all of them are fairly decent. I've used a variety of brands and they've all done the trick.

I drink a lot of cashew and soy milk (2-3 cups a day, mostly cashew milk) so I tend to get my calcium and what not from that. I also take a daily vegan multivitamin, but you only really need to suppliment B12. I've also always taken a D3 suppliment in the winter for emotional support and there's even vegan versions of that just make sure it's from lichen sources.

It can be hard getting in omega-3s but luckily there's lots of options. One option is Gardein fishless fish which is fortified with an algae based omega blend. Another option is adding ground flax or chia seeds to a protein shake. There's also hemp seeds which not only have omega fatty acids but also have a decent amount of protein.

I get my iron from leafy greens. I like making green smoothies with lots of spinach and some berries for vitamin c to boost absorption. I track my intake daily with myfitnesspal and tend to meet my iron goals, if not go over them. Lots of greens in general have iron, even broccoli which is fantastic roasted with a little nutritional yeast. You can also get iron from beans.

It's $14 for a case of 12 cans (16oz.). The price will drop if and when Coke mass produces again. They are looking to see what the demand is on Amazon as of now with a limited supply. Every time it's gone up on Amazon, it's sold out within minutes or hours. eBay and Amazon secondhand sellers have fetched over $400 for a case in this past week that it's been back. Most on here will tell you True Nutrition. Which, I can agree on some points. However, most of their products are sweetened by Sucralose (secret word for Splenda). I usually like close to 2lbs of powder. Which, could put you around $20 but in the US shipping and handling can run you to around $27.

I like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Vega-Protein-Greens-Vanilla-servings/dp/B00MYRXIIS/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1522695726&sr=8-3&keywords=vega+protein+powder

with PRIME shipping is free. It tastes very good and it's sweetened by stevia which is a better alternative than sucralose.

Here it is. They also failed to mention that it's Prime exclusive.

Hi! I also use Vega some of the time to cut down on my dairy intake. Vegan protein powder has a gritty taste and texture. I can't drink it with just water, but it's delicious blended with frozen berries/banana, kale, and water! I've only tried the Vega Protein and Greens in Vanilla as that's what they carry at Costco. You can purchase it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Vega-Protein-Greens-Vanilla-Servings/dp/B00MYRXIIS

Wrong tea....you want this stuff... https://www.amazon.com/Thai-Iced-Traditional-Restaurant-Style/dp/B00NJS4S6C/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1518150342&sr=1-4&keywords=thai+tea

The recipe is on the bag, but I recommend brewing/slow simmering it for like 2 hours.

Great snack that can replace cravings for smoothies, shakes, icees, slurpees. I avoid boba shops because they are inconsistent, cost too much, and don't display calorie content (or contain too many calories).

Buy thai tea mix and a tea pot. The tea only takes a few minutes to make but should sit in freezer or fridge for 30~ minutes to cool before adding ice and drinking. Other teas work too. Most teas are 0 calories. I freeze some tea into icecube tray so that I don't have to wait for tea to cool as long. You can also make a big batch of tea and save in fridge if you want.

Boba can be made by hand or boiled from hard (30-60 minutes) or boiled from soft (5 minutes). It is about 80 calories for 1/4 cup.

I use artificial sweeteners and artificial creamers to make the tea sweet and creamy without adding many calories. Make sure to soak the boba in hot sugar water to get them nice and sweet before adding them to your (less sweet) tea. I usually use nut pods or some sort of creamer that has some calories, adding 50-120 more calories to the boba, but you can stick to zero calorie creamers if you want. I hear Stevia is the healthiest zero calorie sweetener, by the way.

Because you want your tea to cool and your hard boba to boil it takes 30 minutes to make but you aren't in the kitchen the whole time. When I get a craving I will start the boba tea and during the 30 minutes I wait. Most of my food cravings pass easily during this time as I know I am about to drink boba. I find it to be very filling by the time I am able to drink it. I find that this is something of a strategy in itself... Having to wait 30 minutes for my snack helps the cravings pass and the snack feels more filling.

All you need is that special thai tea mix..
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NJS4S6C/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_nOHMDbKWQMEWQ

I made it once upon a time.. I believe with stevia.. and kept it simple by just adding heavy whipping cream. had a really nasty taste. IMO your best bet would be using something like allulose maybe

You're right, not sure why you're getting downvoted. AmantisAsoko literally just copied what Wikipedia says which it clearly says may include (which most of the time it doesn't).

I drink Thai Tea all the time. It's extremely easy. I usually get Police Dog brand (what's available at my local asian grocery stores) and add in condensed milk and ice. This is what every Thai restaurant I've ever been to does and what most Thai recipes will tell you.

Weird, I'll just repost:

I use this mix and start from this base amount and double/triple/quadruple the amount for larger batches:

  • 4 cups water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup tea mix
  • Half & half

Boil water, add sugar and tea mix. Let it boil for 3-5 mins then turn off the stove and steep for 30 mins. Strain and store. I do 8oz tea + ice + 2-4 tablespoons of half & half per serving, depending on preference.

I used a regular strainer but there's a finer amount of stuff that pass through so I strain it again using a finer strainer. They sell thai tea strainers on amazon if you prefer that.

If you have Amazon Prime (and are in US, maybe others) you can pick these up through their Prime Pantry program for about a $1.16 a can, not including the $6 shipping for the Pantry box (about $20 for 12 cans with shipping fee, so about $1.66 a can), but this only fills up 30% of the box so if you're a Surge lover (like me :P) you can get these for about $1.33 a can if you pick up 36 ($48 for 36 cans) ;]. Surge on Amazon.

u/ZeroThePenguin · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

If you have Amazon Prime you can order it from Prime Pantry for $14 for twelve cans. Three cases will just about fill a Pantry box and then it's only $6 to ship it. I stock up every few months.

u/Candlematt · 1 pointr/funny

Actually, they arn't sold out.

$14.99 +$5.99 shipping. Only available to prime members.

u/ostermei · 1 pointr/pics

They've actually started producing it for the US market again, but it's only available through Amazon.

Looks like OP already knows that, though, since that looks like one of the new 16 ounce cans he's got in his broke-ass penatgram there.

You can get it right here.

Nah, available on Amazon now.

u/alleigh25 · 0 pointsr/nostalgia

When they first put it up, it sold out in about a day. We debated buying it, but it was gone by the time we decided to. We bought some the second time they put it up.

And you're right, it's not $40, it's $38.95. And there's currently 4 in stock.

Complete foods:

Soylent is the biggest brand name in complete foods. Basically a food product, typically a liquid meal replacement drink (NOT a "protein shake"). Kind of like Ensure, but replaces a whole meal, and also has 100% nutrition. $29 for a 12-pack on Amazon right now:

https://www.amazon.com/Soylent-Replacement-Shake-Bottles-Packaging/dp/B01NBIF6WS/

Notes:

  • Comes in different flavors. Vanilla & chocolate are the best, imo.
  • Comes in powder (mix it yourself - cheaper) or bottled (called "ready to drink" or RTD)
  • RTD is shelf-stable (you don't have to put it in the fridge, unless you open it & for some reason don't finish it)
  • Has all of the macros (protein/carbs/fats) & micros (vitamins/minerals/fiber) you need - 100% nutrition
  • RTD works out to $2.50 per 400-calorie bottle with 100% nutrition, making it very hard to beat economically & nutritionally
  • You don't have to do any dishes, and you don't have to cook any food
  • There are people who have lived solely off it for over a year, although I'd recommend shaking it up by at least eating dinner, just to get some variety in your diet
  • It's very useful for breakfast and/or lunch. I sometimes run out the door without breakfast & work through lunch...I use it as emergency food. Complete foods are often marketed as "food void" products, for those times when you normally wouldn't eat for whatever reason, or choose a crappy food option (fast food or a vending machine, for example).
  • Kind of like what they feed coma patients. Keeps you alive. Removes hunger, although you don't feel satisfied like if you had eaten real food for your meal.
  • There are variation products available. If you want low-carb or keto, Sated is really good. Vite-Ramen is a nutritionally-complete Ramen, basically Soylent in noodle format. etc.

    Meal Prep:

    Here's my basic system:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/mealprep/comments/afdqju/meal_prep_ideas/edyhgbu/

    In a nutshell:

  1. I break it all into small, separate, discrete pieces.
  2. I use modern appliances to cook better. WAY better.

I do a lot of meal prep. I also use complete foods when I'm feeling lazy, or for emergency situations like if I'm stuck at work late & don't have dinner handy & just need a quick meal. These are the two best ways I know to manage your food budget. I mean, you could literally buy a car with how much money you'd save by making your food at home and/or using complete foods, not to mention feed yourself like a king and/or get amazing nutrition into your body.

    Getting in shape:

Also, if you haven't done it yet, jump into the world of macros! As long as you're bothering to take control of your food budget, you might as well take care of your health too! Read up on IIFYM & use the free calculator here to generate your macros: (recommend using a burner email, if you have one)

    https://www.iifym.com/iifym-calculator/

Basically, if you're not at all familiar with macros, it's very simple: you pick a goal, of which there are only three options IRL: lose weight, maintain weight, gain weight. Those are the only three things you can do to your body. Next, input your data & the calculator will generate your macros. In a nutshell, your stomach has 3 funnels to pull energy out of food: protein, carbs, fat. Your body needs all 3.

Math-wise, protein + carbs + fat = calories. You burn a certain number of calories just by being alive, plus any extra from moving around during the day. Eat fewer calories than that, you will lose weight (don't want to lose it too fast, do a google image search for "loose skin" if you don't believe me). Eat what you need & you will stay where you're at. Eat more & you will gain weight.

Let's destroy some myths: doesn't matter what you eat. Doesn't matter when you eat. If you were born a hundred years ago, your stomach would still be pulling out protein, carbs, and fat from whatever you ate. Maybe you get it from a donut & a protein bar today instead of hunting a deer 500 years ago, but your body doesn't care. Obviously, the more natural, whole foods you can eat, the better, but eating fast food or junk food isn't going to kill you. Every day is cheat day with macros!

Also, every diet in the world is based off macros. Once you understand macros & realize that it doesn't matter what food you eat or when you eat, as long as you hit your macro numbers every day, then things get a lot more clear. The more strict you are with hitting your macros, the better & faster result you will get.

This is all optional, but if you're going to go through the trouble of doing meal prep, why not get yourself a six-pack out of it? It's not any hard to use a $15 kitchen scale off Amazon to weigh your kitchen before you cook it than it is to not do that, you know? Save money, get in shape, eat awesome food, use complete foods when you're feelin' lazy. That's my system & I'm sticking to it! lol.
