Add a light mount.
A light
A dot.
A sling.
and good ammo.
And you’ve got yourself a good HD setup.

I'm very much a fan of this sling
from amazon which can be a 1pt or 2pt sling, and is this price 24/7 on fde, od and black. no pink though. i havent drug it through the dirt, or gone into combat with it, so i cant say it will hold up to that, but the 2 i have have held up for range trips and hunting for a couple years.
I put this sling on all my builds, simple and strong with removable QD points for $14
I'm sorry for your loss. The fact that your relative gave you those guns speaks to how generous of a person they were. What you have is a very solid base for a collection, and several guns that not only have been greatly increasing in value of the last few years, but stand to increase further in the future.
For a 22lr to practice with, get a Ruger 10/22. You'll have to wait a bit to get a good price on one, but 3-4 times a year a basic wood stock model will go on sale for about $200. Check /r/gundeals regularly, as well as this site, which used to be slickguns, but is apparently now renamed. For ammo, gunbot.net can help you find good prices on ammo, especially if you want to order in quantity. Put some Tech Sights on it, and get a 1,24" cotton GI Sling and Uncle Mikes 1.25" QD swivels (note that you can find better prices on those if you look around.) and you'll be set up to learn to shoot most of the rifles you have there very well.
Check the FAQ. Sign up for an Appleseed Project shoot and spend a weekend learning sling supported shooting. Have fun, be safe, and welcome to the community!

This sling is on all my rifles, it is super comfortable and durable.
Beautiful gun, but the hand stop and tied sling look difficult. Have you considering moving the hand stop up and using a QD swivel mount directly into the hand guard? Easy to detach. Magpul QD Quick-Disconnect Sling Swivel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HKBSQ26/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yR0KDb1XFKQQP
Need to get you a 1907 sling, like this one.
That is a Triple K Shotgun Sling. We usually just call that type "shotgun sling".

Here’s a link, pretty good deal
> I've heard a few reports of the metal rings supplied wearing through the lugs eventually. Is that a genuine issue?
So Fuji lugs are actually mostly made of a very soft metal, so to compensate for that they put in a sleeve inside the lug that is made of much more durable material. A while back, there was a 'tip' for peak design users to push that sleeve out so that the peak design anchors can fit through the lug. This is the only reported case of lug wear I've seen for newer bodies.
> Does anyone have any recommendations for quick(ish) release camera straps that don't use metal rings (other than peak design)?
There are some cheap alternatives that use plastic buckles (like this: https://www.amazon.com/OP-TECH-USA-Utility-Adjust/dp/B01C5TE1NA), but I fear the buckles are more likely to wear than the peak design straps. You might consider looking at the blackrapid strap (there are knockoffs too). Instead of the lugs, they attach to the tripod mount... so may offer you some increased flexibility. It's also pretty quick to attach/remove but you have to make sure you do so securely.
> I've started looking at mini karabiner type clips to see if I can rig something up myself but need to find decent, strong cord to attach to the lugs themselves.
You're probably going to want to look for what is called "accessory cord" in the rock climbing world. You can find different diameters/colors and they are all rated by the amount of weight they can handle. You can buy custom lengths in most outdoor shops that sell climbing gear. In the US, REI is your best bet. You can also find precut lengths on amazon. I think your challenge with this approach will be finding the right carabiner... large/strong enough to handle the camera weight, but small enough to be unobtrusive and not scratch up your camera body. Do report back if you find anything though =]

I really like these as a budget alternative to the VTAC quick-adjust sling. $20 all day long, great construction (tubular nylon instead of flat straps), and if you don't want to use the quick-adjust loop, you don't have to.
Add these if you have standard swivel studs or these if you have QD mounts - both are under $10.
A better and more realistic sling would be this one. https://www.amazon.com/AmmoGarand-Garand-Point-Rifle-Sling/dp/B01AX1H53K
I have one on my m16a2 commando.
I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. The only thing that I added beyond more mags was a two-point sling. I purchased this one off of amazon for $20 and it's well built and has served me well.
I didn't go too crazy on accessories and spent more money on ammo and range time.
This is a really nice, cheap clone of the magpul MS4. Feels very durable and a good option if you want a 2 point convertible sling that attaches via QD.
It’s the chocolate raptor, adjustable height, not fixed.
Sling is here. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004G02ULC was kind of dry so I rubbed hand lotion into it for a while. Skin is skin, I guess.
This is my H&R Single Shot 12 Gauge with an 18in barrel.
It's equipped with the Choate Synthetic Survivor Stock, and the Choate Synthetic Store-Arm forearm.
Also I have attached the TruGlo Glo-Dot II green front sight, Ten Point Para-Chord Sling in olive drab, and an NcSTAR A12SH4/6 Side Saddle.
This is my "survival gun."
I also have a few inserts that allows it to fire .22lr, 9mm, and .45, that I keep in the hollow stock.
It may not be much, but I love this gun.
Hope you enjoy!
I've pretty much got the same setup, the stupid $14 QD sling adapter for that stock is nice with an mlok QD sling adapter. That or a QD buffer plate to use with a QD sling. Comes off in one second and stays low profile. This sling is a $13 copy of the magpul ms1, feel free to spend the $50 if you like. It quick adjusts to you can sling it on and tighten it up with one hand while wearing it.
> good sling makers
Slings are one of those things that you can by cheap. You don't need a $60+ gun sling. The most important thing is that it's wide enough to distribute the weight of your rifle without killing your shoulders.
I usually just buy this condor sling as my 2-point sling. Personally, I really like the speed adjustable 2-pointers, but YMMV.
Generally, I only use my slings when I'm throwing my rifle over my shoulder and won't be using it for a while. In most competitions slings just get in the way, and you don't need a sling for home defense. Slings are just one of those things that's made for hunters and soldiers who spend the whole day hauling around their rifle and using it very little. Single-point slings are a bit different, those have applications in a military context, but you don't generally need one.
I've been looking at this one. It's not quite as tacticool as the $50-70 slings, but you can use whatever attachment options you want (quick disconnects, HK clips, laundry pins), has the ability for fast length adjustment with a large thumb loop, and has quality tube webbing so it doesn't dig into your neck. For the price, it seems tough to beat.
The Magpul MS1 sling with this attachment on the right hand side of the buttstock and this attachment on the forward sling loop in front of the handguard. If you want to use cheaper attachment alternatives then that's fine. I found this sling setup to be the best and I've tried lots.
Thanks! I got the sling off Amazon, a repro manufactured in India by the listing info.
This being my first M1, I had a bit of a rocky start earlier today, firing 128 rounds of surplus Austrian 7.62 NATO. I'll chalk up most of them to user error as I was learning my way around the gun, buuuuut:
Other than that though, it sent rounds downrange when it wasn't being a dick about the clips. I'm still relatively new to shooting so I was getting horrible groups (albeit still hitting the target), but the other shooters at the range were able to get good ones at 20, 25 yards (I only have access to a 50 yard indoor range here in NJ). Recoils like a son-of-a-bitch, but I guess that's part of the charm.
I would think the clamp would scratch the hell out of the barrel. I have one of these, it gets the job done. https://www.amazon.com/Triple-K-Shotgun-Sling-Tan/dp/B00MZC9R8W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1502740230&sr=8-3&keywords=leather+shotgun+sling
All the recommended slings should do the job fine. I also enjoy the Magpul MS1 $33 because I can easy adjust it to take cuff stabilized shots. If you've never experienced the stability you can get from your circulation getting cut off, than I'd recommend you try it out lol
I think the extra Sd cards is outdated advice. I would shop around for the max storage that works with your camera. a 32gb card will hold like 1700 pictures in raw. For me thats more than enough. I took 1100 pictures for 5 days at WDW. maybe just a spare in your room.
Also you might try a sling instead of a bag https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C5TE1NA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
but if you are in the market for a new bag https://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Passport-Sling-III-Protective/dp/B00J8V1INU/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1498703495&sr=1-12&keywords=sling+camera+bag
I've taken both on roller coasters.
If you get curious and completely disassemble the rifle or you're replacing the Sear Spring with the YoDave one, be extremely careful when you remove the Sear Pin. There is a Sear Steel Ball in there (see 2:45 in this video) that will shoot out, and you will lose it. I only found mine after much frustration and the eventual help of a magnet. It's also very hard to get back in without a fairly simple trick, explained in this thread.
I would suggest trying to adjust the Trigger Rod Nut to adjust the trigger pull first. I've done that and found it to be quite good. That said, I'm going to buy the YoDave CZ 452 trigger kit right now and install it immediately when it comes (Hooray for not being unemployed anymore!).
Instead of a bipod like others are suggesting to steady it, I have found great pride in being able to properly use a sling (also this video and this hilarious one and this and this and this one for lefties and many others you can find yourself). My personal favorites are the M1907 leather sling and the USGI Web Sling. It's important to note that a heavier rifle does not necessarily make it more steady. In fact, after a few shots, it's more likely to become less accurate as your support arm tires. With the use of a sling, your arms will be substantially less tired than without, and you will be inherently steadier anyway.
If you can find an Appleseed Event near you, I highly recommend it. You'll get all of this from a qualified instructor with some one-on-one time as well. They suggest using a semi-automatic rifle with peep sights, but a bolt action with tangent sights (what comes standard on the CZ 452) will work splendidly. There you will learn basic riflery and marksmanship, as well as some American history through kind-of-embellished storytelling.
Here's a PDF copy of the instruction manual *PDF Warning, duh in English. Study it during take down and cleaning, and maybe you'll find the courage to completely disassemble your rifle. You'll have a greater understanding of how your rifle works after doing that.
Most importantly, be safe and have fun! You've chosen a fantastic rifle! Welcome to my favorite sport and passion!
Before handling a firearm...
remember, and remind those around you
Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
Only $14, just like the magpul 2 point that has an attatchment for single point. Great strap, hasn't failed me yet
I have an ACS-L and really like it. It comes with QD mounts, but if you want to use a clip-on like the MS3 you can get something like this for the 2 point.
For a single point sling I like the way it rests with the ASAP plate rather than attaching to the stock.
Well the sling will come with qd points. A two point sling will have two qd mounts. The stock has one qd, and then the little mlok to qd. So if u buy this and mount it on an mlok slot on the handrail, then buy a sling that says it is a qd (quick disconnect) sling it will come with the mounts. Like this sling is a 2 point so it comes with two qd points. And then this is the magpul afg .
Yeah those QD swivels are meant for a different sort mounting socket. You could buy other mounts and adapters for the stock and barrel to use them, or get swivels like this,
and loop through a sling like this.
[Additionally] As for a forward grip, look for one made for the 1913 Picatinny type rail. There’s literally hundreds...
QD sling swivel, it's a pushbutton release, you can get it anywhere.

I'm a big fan of my magpul ms3 sling
I have a qd end plate in my ar 15 for it to attach to. Can change from single to two point. The clip version of the sling requires a,separate qd swivel sling mount.they make another version with the qd swivel mount altready integrated into the sling. I prefer it separate. Very comfortable

I just purchased this and it should be waiting for me when I get home today.
I wanted something that had a quick adjust feature but didn't cost as much as the Troy, VTAC, etc. I'll let you know how I like it, but it's gotten good reviews everywhere I've seen.
TUMBL TRAK PORTABLE PARALETTES
Hi all, was wondering if anyone have these paralettes and if yes, would you mind sharing your experience? Looking for portable paralettes when I travel for work. I guess a main question is if they are too low when transitioning from planche to L-sits and vice versa. Thanks in advance.
https://www.amazon.ca/Tumbl-Trak-Portable-Parallette-Bars/dp/B07DR1CY7G?pf_rd_p=434a553b-9cd2-405f-86f6-63ac21eb273a&pd_rd_wg=rWiI1&pf_rd_r=F740ZCDDZCECXD8DEZJR&ref_=pd_gw_wish&pd_rd_w=TlcF5&pd_rd_r=4621d6b4-20d5-4460-84ad-7dcccebe25d4
Check youtube for advice videos on AR slings, and you'll realize the impracticality of attaching a single-point at the stock. Single points usually attach at the end plate or lower receiver (if it has a QD point) for many reasons, one of which being reachability.
I would also recommend a two-point sling. There are many options out there, but being a minimalist/cheapo I went with the Proctor Sling. Includes attachment hardware, is easy to use, and is adjustable.
If you are deadset on that paracord sling, you will need to purchase QD hardware to enable attachment. Search for QD sling swivels.
But for the same price as that etsy sling and additional hardware, there are so many more adjustable, efficient slings. Check out the Stupid Simple Slings as another source.
If you run low on time for the sling and need to get it ASAP, this is what I used for my Appleseed this weekend and it worked great: LINK
It's this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004G02ULC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_FH2jxbM6QMBQC
I like it. Seems well made and durable.
This guy here is what I used, and it's what they teach. $17 on Amazon. There are cheaper ones around, but they are of varying quality.
https://www.amazon.com/Soviet-Russian-Standard-Original-vintage/dp/B011L3JP9G/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=ak+sling+soviet+mustard&qid=1568822851&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A22GJOS4J17BLM&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE2RlU2WE5ZOVc5OTYmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA0NjM1MjExQ01aRk4zNDRHMFIxJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAwMjg0OTYzTkwwNFJLWDdIR0JVJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfbXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
Either will do. Yes, get an adjustment tool, they're just handy to have regardless but someone will most likely have one to lend you. For a sling, I got this one.
I've got a couple of these: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00JK1XW4G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ya.zDbGFP2YP7
Nothing too fancy, but I quite like them for the price.
I use a Magpul 2-point MS1 with one side through the A2 and one side looped through the MOE stock like this.
Know of any USGI style slings that come with "modern" hardware? I'm looking around, and I like the cheap cost and functionality of the basic USGI sling, but I'd have to replace the clips with QD points, which are what I want to use. I can't tell if something like this cheap magpul knockoff would work as a loop, but it comes with the hardware I need.
Any ideas?
I prefer a 2 point sling so I got this one.
You can even buy one "pre-upgraded"!
I put those exact mounts on my 10/22 a couple months ago for a 1 1/4" USGI sling. Works perfectly, but I did need to put the gun in my drill press to make holes for the mounts.
lol i wasn't sure people would be that interested since i didn't do anything unique or exciting with it.

Mini-14 is junk, don't buy.
Buy him this rifle.
Buy him this sling.
Send him to this event, and buy a ticket for yourself while you're at it.
The Sporter doesn't have a barrel band, and will probably be slightly more accurate. But, you'll want to install Tech Sights if he wants to seriously learn how to shoot.
The PC Carbine is a fine gun, but a 10-year-old should learn on a 10/22 so they can shoot a high volume of rounds for cheap without having to learn about managing recoil yet. Everything he, or you, learns on the 10/22 will transfer to the PC Carbine.
will this work?

There “is” a kit you can buy to add QD mount to the front, and the tailhook has a QD in the rear (but attaching a sling to end of the folding brace is silly from a weight perspective on a 2 point sling, But the easier answer is, you don’t really need to. A QD mount isn’t really any faster than just a regular ol’ metal hook style mount imo.

Gotta get my AR-15 ready for an Appleseed (first ever) and I need a sling. I've got a VLTOR Sight Tower and a Magpul CTR stock. Can I just get 2 of these QD sling swivels and maybe a Magpul sling? I'm not sure how the sling is used for support (one of the reasons I'm going to an Appleseed) so I'm not sure if this setup would work.
2 point so you don't have your rifle swinging around hitting you in the dick. Something like this with that loop so you can quickly extend or shorten the length.
stupid simple + Quick detach swivel or sling adapter that goes in front of the castle nut.
Given the extreme unreliability of all rimfire ammo, it is stupid to trust your life on it.
Also, .22LR has trouble penetrating the ribcage of elderly US presidents (Reagan, specifically), so what chance does it really have with reliably stopping zombies when it does manage to avoid FTF/FTE?
Seriously. Buy several ARs and stockpile .223 and/or 5.56. Get Elzettas for the ARs. Put flashlights with tailswitches in the Elzettas. Buy slings. Ensure the flashlights run on Panasonic 18650 batteries as those are interchangeable with dual CR123 batteries, but have the added option of reliable recharging. If you plan your shopping carefully, you will probably get each weapon completed for less than $550.
Putting all this together is easier than most Lego sets.
Total for known prices is $492.15. At this point just go find some lower receiver that you like - you'll probably spend less than $50 total... unless you wait for the elections, in which case they will be like $300.
Absolutely. The perfect sling for Appleseed is a plain GI sling. Here's an Amazon link for you.... http://www.amazon.com/Tech-Sights-cotton-Libery-training/dp/B0045V9GVO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415760601&sr=8-1&keywords=gi+sling

They are cheap, secure, and much slimmer than a lot of the more expensive padded tactical slings.
Pretty sure you don’t buy a certain sling for your barrel length because they’re adjustable.
Idk what a bargain is to you but I like this and this
What would you make of this QD swivel for the CTR? Is the only difference between the CTR and the SRT storage options?

I'm not sure where people get their HK slings, but Zenith usually provides one with their Z-5RS/Z-5Ps. PTR has a 1 point sling with theirs.

If you choose to buy elsewhere, be sure to buy cotton, not nylon. Nylon has a tendency to slip, especially in the loop configuration you'll learn at Appleseed.
You'll also need sling swivels and sling studs. You can get them as a set here.
Tip for installing the studs on your synthetic stock: Start with a small drill bit about 1/2 half the size of the screw on the stud. Pre-drill holes in the stock. Insert a nail through the sling stud and twist it into the stock until the holes are perpendicular to the bore.
You're all set. Good luck and happy shooting.
If you are looking at MS4 check out this one on amazon. Basically a copy of the ms4. I just picked one up and am very happy for the price,$14. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01JA9E7LY/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1494614428&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=gun+sling
