the wax

I found these. I don’t personally use it (not hairy enough and I’m lazy) but I think that’s what you want to use. There’s heaps of videos on YouTube about it.

You should also invest in one of those back shavers for men. They look handy dandy for those hard to get places :)

For reference, I started going to an esthetician in 2012. In 2013, my favorite esthetician moved and I decided to get my own kit. She recommended these products to me, although I believe she probably used an Aveda oil instead of the one I found. I've got a sewing-sized bag I use to store the burner, waxes, applicators, and muslin strips for my Gigi wax. I do recommend not double dipping.. even though it's just you, that's nasty. I get the wide and narrow applicators and break a bunch of them in half to get more use and cut waste.

Depending on how long your hairs are, you may want to trim them or shave it clean off. Waxing with hair that is less than 1/4 inch is usually ineffective while waxing hair that is longer than 3/4 inch is usually quite painful. For me, about 2-3 weeks growth is optimal but everyone is different so YMMV.

This product is applied to clean skin before waxing. It makes a huge difference... it smells nice, moisturizes a bit, and most importantly keeps wax from adhering to the skin. Be sparing, if you apply too much the wax doesn't grip the hair but it's no problem to just wipe some off. This one bottle has lasted me four years. For reference, I wax my pits and bikini twice a month, full Brazilian once a month. It's probably expired, but it works well. https://www.amazon.com/Gigi-Pre-Epilation-Oil-4-Ounce/dp/B0006Q01BQ

Here's my favorite wax for Brazilians: https://www.amazon.com/Cirepil-Blue-Refill-28-22-Ounce/dp/B008L0AI3U/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1496021722&sr=1-1&keywords=cirepil+hard+blue+wax

Here's my favorite wax for my underarms (the hairs grow in baby soft now that I've been waxing them and haven't shaved in four years.) https://www.amazon.com/GiGi-Azulene-Wax-13-Ounce/dp/B0030ZRS9S/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1496021822&sr=1-1&keywords=gigi+azulene+wax

As wax heats, cools, heats, cools, I find it doesn't work quite as well. Especially hard waves which seem to become brittle and less effective to rip off. I tried a few Honey hard waxes that were probably expired and had to use an exacto blade to carefully cut the wax AND hair away from a very important piece of anatomy. Horrifying. I've never had this issue with the Cirepil wax, so don't let this horrific anecdote scare you away from waxing!!!

To remove the wax, I just use whatever coconut/olive/carrier oil I have lying around. I get in the shower and let the oil and warm water do their thing.

I haven't yet found a specific product to prevent ingrowns/sanitize that I like but the Mario Badescu glycolic acid I used to use on my face (it's a little to harsh for my rosacea but it works just fine on my less tender.. tender bits) gets the job done just fine! Apply right after showering and every 5-7 days after to prevent ingrowns.

If you can, wax when you're ovulating. Take some ibuprofen/acetaminophen, and wear clothing that won't constrict or abrade the area. I like putting silk undergarments in a ziploc bag in my freezer to wear afterward. Super soothing.

Technique is really important. Experiment, does it work better when you apply wax with/against the grain and when you rip the wax with/against the grain? I apply against and rip with, but it's different for everyone I wager. I lay down a big ripped open trashbag to catch any wax drips, cover most of my body in an oil in case the wax drips on my body, put my hair up high and out of the way.

Prop up an extra mirror (preferably a magnifying mirror that you can move around) to help make sure I get everything. There's a lamp in our bathroom on the sink I turn on to light from below to make sure no shadow from overhead lighting obscures the hairs.

Some small hairs are tough to get, so I keep two kinds of tweezers handy for post-shower clean up.

If your man is up to it, offer him your skills after you're sure you can do it well. I hear tell it's appreciated...

Happy waxing! Welcome to saving hundreds of dollars a year!

Update: added some clarification, since I just waxed tonight and forgot some things :)

Used to be an aesthetician and recently diagnosed. So hard waxes (the ones you don’t need to use a fabric strip on) are much less irritating to the skin and perfect for facial waxing. In order to do this at home you will need 4 things:

  1. A wax pot to heat up the wax. They can be found on amazon like this one I have used and would recommend: GiGi Wax Warmer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0030ZRS7A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PZ5TBbG8YBZDR
  2. Wax... any hard wax should work but if you’re not a professional I can’t stress enough how much I would recommend using this brand and type: Satin Smooth Wild Cherry Hard Wax with Vitamin E, 14 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B5LQT7Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_C15TBbGC4GX7S
The issue many beginners have with using hard wax is getting it the right consistency/temperature and many hard waxes may become brittle when drying because they were overheated. This wax becomes more of a rubbery consistency making it super easy to use.
  3. A wax remover/baby oil to help get off any small pieces of wax that may be left over or stuck on to skin
  4. Tongue depressors for applying the wax. Or any disposable wooden stick of your choosing. The larger the area the bigger the tool being used.
All in all should cost you around $45-$50 to get started but is super cheap in the long run because you only need to replace the items pretty infrequently.
Remember to ALWAYS double check the wax temp by testing a small amount on the inside of your wrist before applying it to more delicate areas. Also the wax consistency should always be around room temperature honey... if it’s any more liquid-y than that it’s too hot.

This might not be allowed, but my suggestions would be something I will put off buying for myself plus two things I need. :)

u/vixilynfaith · 3 pointsr/WomensHealth

Bikini bump blaster. It helps prevent irritation by helping to disinfect. It also reduces ingrown hairs. Make sure you are exfoliating before you shave, shaving with the grain, and using moisturizer after. I shaved until 2 years ago when I started waxing.

Completely Bare bikini bump BLASTER Ingrown Hair & Bikini Bump Eliminator with Witch Hazel & Green Tea - Citrus Scent 50 ea https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HJ762WL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qJRwDbQA96DRR

Otherwise, I recommend getting a home wax kit and learning to do that.

Edit: shave with the grain, not against.

I mainly use two different kinds for different areas. I've come up with this after multiple trial/errors.

For my face & armpits I use Gigi Brazillian Bikini Hard Wax - Microwaveable by Sally's. It doesn't require strips, and actually grips & removes my stubborn hairs. Plus I like that I can just microwave it, use what I need, put the cap back on. I'd say the little jar will last me about 6 months - so that's $2/month if you break it down that way.

For my legs I use Clean & Easy Roll-on Waxing system that I initially got at Sally's a long time ago, but I don't think they sell them anymore. I love the roll-on system for this. It makes fast work of my larger areas. While I normally don't wax my arms, if I wanted to, this is how I would do it. This system requires wax ($20 for 6 cartridges; 1 cartridge will do both FULL legs), plus strips ($10/a lot? I use 5-6 per session). I prefer the muslin strips over the ones that came with this system.

I get my brazilian done professionally. I've tried countless times to do it myself, and I can do a nice bikini wax at home, but I find that I just need a third hand to go full brazilian. I think I spend $60 every 6 weeks at my health club to get it done. I justify it b/c I don't get my nails done, nor my hair styled etc. So I figure it's my form of monthly "pampering."

I also get my eyebrows done every once in awhile to make sure they stay in 'shape'. I do have to pluck every 2-3 days for the rogue lash, but I like to make sure that I get them done so they look even etc. Basically she styles them, then I maintain them, if that makes sense. And yes, it's the same Chick as my brazilian. She is AMAZING. Seriously, if you are considering going the professional route, shop around, get references etc. It took me maybe 5 different attempts before I found my esthetician. I LOVE her. She knows what I'm looking for, how I like my brows, how often I need to be seen for my brazilian, etc. Now that I've found her, I probably won't go anywhere else to get work done. I can't underline this enough - once you found someone that jives with you, plus does the job you like - stick with them.

u/rinakrack · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

make sure they use "hard wax" aka not strips because the strips stick to the skin and so when they're pulled off there's way more trauma. I had a bikini wax done with strips once and vowed to never again. now I wax at home with this. it's also way cheaper, but requires practice

u/shitshiner69 · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I wax my armpits, bikini area, lip, chin, and nipples. For some reason I can’t wax my legs, they just hate it and it makes me really itchy. Maybe OP can try waxing at home, although I think that maybe she may have to get the back done professionally since she may not be able to reach. I use hard wax beads and a wax melter I bought on amazon.

> I'm generally too sad to put any effort into anything like that lol

Yea that part is pretty hard esp if you're feeling discouraged. For me my thought of the body I want is the source of motivation. Also I try to always make sure there's time to workout because I know it will help me get towards something I really want. Once I got over the initial hump I realise it's not so bad and even see a little progress and it just snowballs from there. At this point I'm looking forward to working out because I know it takes me one step closer. Focusing on small wins has really kept me motivated and focused.

The hair thing is pretty tough. I'm not sure what the affordable range is, but you can get a wax warmer on Amazon for like $25 and wax for like $25 for 2 pounds but then the wax is a reoccurring cost so yea it can get expensive. That's the cheapest option I've found though. I'll edit with the links just in case. There are prob better options but I'm happy with the purchase so far.

This KILLED me!!!!! I love you so much, we're kindred spirits. I am so paranoid about nose hair. It's not even a PCOS thing, it's something I grew up with being my ethnicity. My non-PCOS sisters even have this issue. The old fashioned nose clippers work so much better than electric, it's something all of us hairy girls have. Otherwise, I know you said you hated plucking, but this waxing tool is one really painful item we all have. It's just like plucking, except 10 times worse, but it only takes a fraction of a second. One sneeze and it's done for a couple months. And you only need to buy the tool once, you can reuse it with other heated/microwaveable waxes. It's torture, but it beats being self conscious.

u/vintagesauce · 2 pointsr/askportland

We got some Cirepril hard wax, a good heater and watched some videos. There were some hilarious (and painful!) incidents as part of our learning process, but it's been really positive.

Blue hard wax we use

this is the wax warmer we have

I actually just did the same thing with the same Ikea countertop. I used Osmo Polyx Hard Wax Oil, and I think it's my new favorite finish for when I want wood to feel like wood. Expensive, but a little goes a long way, and the dry times are pretty fast. Gives a decent sheen and feels great under the fingers. Not available via Amazon prime or in hardware stores though, so if time is of the essence, you might need to find it locally or consider other solutions.

When I want a more "encased" feel, I like dewaxed shellac + wipe on poly. Shellac is fast because it's dissolved solids in alcohol. Quick, cheap, and easy. You could also try spray lacquer for maximum quickness.

For the legs, I pre-drilled my holes, then stuck some 2 1/2 inch nails in to stand the wood off of the ground. (I finished the bottom first with it just sitting on the cardboard it came in.) A little unconventional, but it worked fine!

I use GiGi Brazilian Body Hard Wax 14ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0030ZRSHK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fZjnDbXR10806.

Buy the portable wax heater. Let it completely melt and then give it 10-12 mins to cool off. Apply the wax using popsicle strips or similar, let cool slightly and then rip off. Have been waxing this way for years.

This stuff works https://www.amazon.com/Nair-Brazilian-Spa-Clay-Roll-/dp/B006PEL7F2/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467490388&sr=8-3&keywords=wax+roller

I'd second that on trying olive oil to dissolve the honey-gunk off. Olive oil was the only way I got the steristrips to come off that adhered to me permanently after top surgery. You could also try orange oil/bike degreaser. I've used that shit to remove roofing tar and it was surprisingly effective.

u/PastelNihilism · 1 pointr/TrueOffMyChest

Most wax is but honestly this shit:

https://www.amazon.com/AINATU-European-Removal-Depilatory-Ingredients/dp/B075Q5ZR2Q/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1521041317&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=depilatory+wax&psc=1

Is great. no papers or anything but it does dry REALLY FAST. the removal is pretty low in pain. you put the beans in a silicone cup (when it dries you can just pop the little remainder out instead of having to melt and scrub something else) you put the cup in a shallow pan with boiling water. make sur eto keep the water hot so the wax doesn't dry.

Use a tongue depressor to pick upabig glob of it, spread it quickly in the direction your hair grows. cover as much space as you can before it dries. wait until fully dry and then pull against the grain.

Follow it up with a soothing after shave product and a rinse.

u/Jnnlopez · 1 pointr/BeautyAddiction

I don't have too much experience with their strip wax, but I've been using a variety of their hard non-strip wax for years. My favorite is the Brazilian bikini wax.

u/coffeeandblades · 1 pointr/OkCupid

I do it myself because you know, money. I use this but it's significantly cheaper if you buy it directly from the company than through amazon. I do use muslin strips with this. For hard wax, I use this, but am considering moving to cerapil or just sugaring everything.

u/catgirl1359 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Depends on the type of wax but generally you smooth on in the direction of hair growth and then pull off in the opposite direction. It's pretty easy to do yourself, this is the wax I get- [link](Wax Necessities Azulene Film Hard Wax Small Bag 100 G, 3.5 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SNJQQFS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Pywszb4P8DS0N) to sample size. There are directions on the package but you can also find videos on YouTube showing the technique. I microwave mine in a glass container since I haven't got a wax warmer yet.

u/crystal193 · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Hey! I was researching sugaring because a friend of mine suggested it.
I found [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/Moom-Organic-Hair-Removal-Refill/dp/B00DKEW7NG/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1500247622&sr=8-4&keywords=sugaring+wax) on Amazon. :)

and in the reviews it sounds like a woman has the same problem:

>"For years, waxing has given me terrible breakouts of folliculitis. And shaving gives me a rash. So I've always preferred waxing. On the advice of some other reviewer, I bought this PLUS Hibiclens Antiseptic/Antimicrobial Skin Liquid Soap. I scrub the parts I'm going to wax with this soap (in the shower) an hour or so before I wax. Then, again, after I wax. Then I apply Cordaid to the waxed areas (b/c they're irritated). So far so good. It's a miracle."

I will say that you'll probably have to go over the same area at least twice to get all the hair. That's the downside to this product. But even waxing everything twice (full legs and lower arms) I still had about 1/3 of the product left in the jar--which is pretty amazing. Usually a single wax kit barely gives me enough wax to do my legs."

Hope this helps you. I might try this myself. Not AB but maybe there are AB equivalents.

u/trebleKat · 1 pointr/beauty

I used the Gigi's wax and hated it. It wouldn't dry hard enough to pull so it was basically like trying to pull bubble gum out of my hair; terrible. Have you had this issue? I use this now and love it.

The best secret for nose hair is --- Nad's Nose Wax. Sounds painful but it is really painless if you follow directions. Leaves your inner nose super clean and hairless: http://www.amazon.com/NADs-Nose-Wax-Men-Women/dp/B009GA5XVG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409098724&sr=8-1&keywords=nad%27s+nose+wax

Nads nose hair remover... I use it once a month

u/VansLotus · 1 pointr/BeginnerWoodWorking

My wife showed me this and really likes it. I saw it and didn't see anything that looked complicated. I want to try something like this using $40 sheet plywood first. All I see are dados and routing. Some of the vanities have veneer which might be tricky...

These vanities cost $500-700 a linear foot! After she told me that, I said that I'd rather try building them myself.

Click here. This is the one she really likes.

They say they finish everything using Osmo Polyx-oil. Is this something easy to apply?
