To be honest, I don't have much knowledge with hair stuff, but I've been looking at this one and this one just based on customer reviews. I like that there are clamps instead of pins and the storage compartment looks good too.

It’s used to hold a heated hair roller in place. You can see them in this set:

  1. It is not a make up tool but it is for beauty. I have this and I love it very much, my face gets swollen and fat a lot so this really helps drain my lymphatic system and gives me a less puffy face!

  2. Can't I just have all of them?! XD If I had to pick, I really like Teal DeGrasse Tyson!

  3. I would love to get my drivers licence before then!

  4. poppin bottles

    THANK YOU!

I have very thick hair. I used to sleep in these, brush my hair out in the morning and then wear it in a scrunchy doubled over ponytail (not pulled all the way through) while I got ready. That would help loosen the curls. Made my hair very curly. I stopped because my hair would get frizzy throughout the day but maybe now I've solved that issue with my new CG routine...

Why not curl your hair using rollers, curl formers, or flexi rods? You can get a soft bonnet attachment for your blow dryer to set them and eliminate the need for a curling iron entirely. You're still putting heat on your hair but you can minimize the damage. I would also add a deep conditioner at least once a week to your routine and a heat protectant. If you go this route you also might find it worth your while to buy a foaming mousse/setting lotion so that your curls can last you a couple days, with dry shampoo in between washes.

Some links:

my favorite foaming mousse is by creme of nature:

curlformers:

flexi rods (you can find these for WAY cheaper at the beauty supply store):

soft bonnet attachment for your blow dryer (you could buy an actual hooded dryer but I have not seen one for less than $100):

youtube is a great resource for learning how to do roller sets and to use curl formers.

Sure! Here's what I used and really liked. I'll follow up in a few with the tutorials I found most helpful, I have to dig for them a little.

I know you said extensions are out of budget, but could you get a cheap pair of curly synthetic extensions in your hair color and use them to cover the hair donut? Onedor and S-noilite extensions are around $9-$14 and I've had good luck using heat styling tools on them as well as wearing them in updos.

Another option is using foam hair curlers like these on damp hair with mousse the night before for volume and curl. I have very fine hair and used to do this before cheering competitions in high school and college, and it gave me a lot of volume. This also ended up blending really well with curly synthetic hair, and I didn't have to use heat at all to blend it into a half-up look or a ponytail.

I'm awful at doing hair, but I now have a long bob and plan on just curling it with some extensions of the same length for volume, and then either wearing a flower crown, a braided hair headband, or just an ornate headband of some sort.

Shoes are my biggest issue too! I don’t know why but i always CONVINCE myself that I need more pairs than I actually do. I’m packing for a year long trip rn and I have about 6 pairs 😅 All brown too, I know I need to narrow it down.
I do minimal make up every day so I have supplies for that.

I don’t carry foam rollers anymore, but back when I curled my hair overnight more often I used these soft curlers that didn’t take up a lot of room. I travelled frequently with those and a bonnet (lol)

Circle skirts & boat neck tops sound like an amazing and really standard “uniform” that you can play around a lot with. I think it’s a way to wear vintage in a very simple and timeless style. Would love to see a packing layout when you’re finished with everything!

Clump Crusher! Also these strawberry hair curlers because they're so fun and work pretty well! Oh Canada!

designer sleep in rollers because my straight hair needs some curl in it's life!

u/garden-girl · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

My hair will not hold a curl. By the time the last bit of my hair in being curled, the first bits are nearly straight. It's annoying. I've tried everything and nearly every gimmick.

I have found that damp hair in a sock bun works pretty decent. I do have to add some sort of product to my hair while damp, like hair spray or mousse.

The next best thing that worked for me was a silly gimmicky thing called magic hair curlers

curlformers

or magic leverage curlers

I bought a cheap knock off on eBay to try them out. I had damp hair with product in it, and left them in over night. I still had curls at the end of the night but also didn't brush through my hair too much. I styled it as best I could without disrupting the curls too much.

Edited to fix links

I like big, loose, bouncy curls and I use big hot rollers in two sizes and a curling iron to get the style I want. If you're looking for a different style you might want to disregard this advice.

Hot Rollers:

BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium 12 Jumbo-Roller Hairsetter (1 1/2") and John Frieda Body & Shine Smooth Waves (2").

I use a Hot Tools 1 1/2" Curling Iron on any leftover hair that didn't fit into the hot rollers. Sometimes I just use the curling iron and skip the rollers.

I have long, fine, Caucasian hair with a very slight wave - quite different from yours, but it also doesn't hold curls very well. The best solution I've found is this:

  1. I wash my hair with volumising shampoo and only a tiny amount of conditioner.
  2. I towel dry it, and apply mousse to the roots (I like the Pantene one).
  3. Then I use a blow dryer with a diffuser. I usually blow dry my roots upside-down and sort of make a topknot out each section as it dries.
  4. Once the hair is about 90% dry, I comb through with a small amount of setting lotion (this is a very old school product usually used for setting hair overnight).
  5. Then, I either use 3/4 inch hot rollers, or use an equivalent curling iron and wrap each section around a magnetic roller (the small size). It's important to keep a lot of tension on each section as you wrap it around the iron and the roller. You can also tease the hair before wrapping for more volume.
  6. Spray the whole shebang with a strong hold, brushable hair spray and allow to cool for a good long time. (This is very much a special occasion thing for me, so I usually spend 45-90 minutes doing other things before letting the curls down.)
  7. Let them down carefully, spray again, and brush sparingly to break them up a bit.

I usually do this as preparation for some sort of old Hollywood updo like this or this, but I find that I have curls and volume for about three days afterwards. It's definitely a little rough/crunchy to the touch, but it looks soft and fluffy.

You could get a hair roller with self grip like this and use it to roll them up and out of the way, it will also give them volume

I’m thinking about getting bangs but greasy bangs is also a scare for me because I live the Vaseline slug life. When I used to teach English in korea all my students had bangs and I saw those little sticky curlers everywhere so that’s where I got the idea. I think it will really help

You can buy something like this and try to make your hair curly this way.
Hair curlers

But in my opinion, based on the photo you posted of your hair, it appears very straight to me. I don’t see a curl pattern in your hair, other than the bottom a tiny bit. I wouldn’t bother using curl cream in your hair, it will not make it curly. You need to perm it or blow dry it using these curling rods if you want it to look curly.
I think you have nice looking natural hair, and you should use what you have. Learn to style straight hair.

Sounds like something like this

Woof. That's terrible! I see you've ordered the rollers /u/amaresnape recommended, but if you're in the market for a curling iron, I really like the rotating barrel one from Bio-Ionic. The clip doesn't ever leave a mark on my hair, and I (for the first time ever), get curls that look pretty into the next day.

I also have been super into these rollers, in case anyone else has been looking. Great volume and curl that lasts all day, especially compared to the countless sets of Conair rollers that I've owned throughout my Alabama upbringing.
