Here are the basic advantages:

CARE OF SKIN - DE shaving, using lather, a good razor and blade, and good technique, is much kinder to your skin that the 5-blade, tug-and-cut scraping action of a Fusion. More details on request, but many guys have commented on how much their skin/acne/ingrowns have improved since making the switch.

QUALITY OF SHAVE - This will probably not be new information, but advertisements often do not provide reliable information. (Note the obvious conflict of interest, for example.) Quite frequently, guys who have made the switch find that their shaves are much better, an observation reinforced by the comments from significant other, children, and/or grandchildren that their face is not so scratchy as it used to be.

COST OF SHAVE - My blades cost 9¢ each and last a week. For $4.50, I get a year's worth of shaves. How much do you spend on Fusion cartridges in a year? Shaving soap and cream are also much less expensive than canned foam, besides being better, more fragrant, and more pleasurable.

QUALITY OF LIFE - DE shaving improves one's quality of life. Specifically:

Environmental benefits - These are obvious: much less landfill fodder and many fewer noxious chemicals involved in traditional shaving.

Personal benefits - This was the clincher for me: shaving went from a tedious, boring, hateful chore to a real pleasure, something I look forward to each morning and truly enjoy. It makes a significant psychological difference to begin the day with taking care of yourself while doing something you enjoy rather than hurrying through something you hate.

FWIW, I wrote a comprehensive introduction to DE shaving that answers these and many other questions. You can get much of the same info on the Internet (but not all, I believe), but the book provides an organized and consistent introduction and discusses the many choices and tradeoffs in equipment, supplies, and techniques. Check out the reader reviews to see whether you think it would help you.

I definitely recommend against the Art of Shaving: you are paying more and the selection is limited. Check out some of the good on-line vendors like BullgooseShaving.net, ItalianBarber.com, LeesRazors.com, MaggardRazors.com, ShavePlace.com, ShoeboxsShaveshop.com, and WestCoastShaving.com.

This sub-$50 beginner kitwill get you started for about $35. Read this post on blades to understand why a sampler pack is required.

For acne, I recommend:

a. Whole Foods 365 glycerin soap with vitamin E (that's one of the glycerin soaps they offer), $2/bar, as a pre-shave beard wash. Wash beard at the sink using your hands, then rinse partially with a splash and apply lather.

b. Rinse razor head in high-proof rubbing alcohol before and after each shave.

c. After the final rinse ending the shave, glide a dry alum block over your wet skin, then set block aside and clean up around the sink, put stuff away, etc., with the alum on your beard. After a minute or two, rinse the alum off, dry, and do your usual aftershave. This step is particularly helpful: alum is a mild antiseptic.

d. Use a fresh towel for every shave. You can buy thin, 100% cotton, lint-free towels called "barber towels" or "bar towels" for under $20/dozen. They're easy to launder and a fresh one for each shave helps a lot. Here's an example. A wet towel is a microbe incubator.

e. Buy a bunch of pillowcases from a hotel supply house and use a fresh pillowcase every night.

These are some basic tactics. The book has a section on that problem.

u/lostnprocrastination · 23 pointsr/wicked_edge

Looks like irritation. This isn't a skin care subreddit, you will have to tell us what your shaving process consists of.

edit- you have probably posted and disappeared like so many do on this sub. I'll leave this really good post that /u/leisureguy made a few days ago that may help your situation out if you don't post again. Good luck to ya.

The only thing I'd change in this list is recommend that you stop shaving for at least a week and let it calm down, and another good brand of Witch Hazel and Aloe is Thayers.

> For acne, I recommend:

> a. Check the ingredients in your shaving products and know which to avoid---menthol, for example, is not a good idea. Until your acne's in remission, favor unscented shaving creams and soaps.

After a minute or two, rinse the alum off, dry, and do your usual aftershave. This step is particularly helpful: alum is a mild antiseptic. You may need to wet the block in colder climes during the winter, when indoor relatively humidity plummets. Since a few men have skin sensitive to alum (their skin turns red and hot for a few minutes after they use it), you may want to test the block on the crease of your elbow joint: wet block, rub it gently on the skin there, and wait 10 minutes. If you have no reaction, use it as advised. (Alum also makes a great styptic if you get a cut: for that use, wet a corner of the block and press it firmly against the cut or nick for 20-40 seconds.)

> e. Use a fresh towel for every shave. You can buy thin, 100% cotton, lint-free towels called "barber towels" or "bar towels" for under $20/dozen. > f. Shave daily. Use very light pressure Think of your skin as being badly sunburned and the razor is an uncomfortably hot bar, but the razor still must touch the skin---but barely. That kind of light pressure. Daily shaving probably helps by being exfoliating and by the daily alum block and good aftershave---try one of the Thayers witch hazels with aloe vera or one of the witch-hazel-based aftershaves by ProspectorCo.com or StirlingSoap.com. Since the shave itself is exfoliating, I suggest restricting exfoliating scrubs to the forehead and nose and not use them where you shave---this is to minimize skin damage.

> g. Buy a bunch of pillowcases from a hotel supply house and use a fresh pillowcase every night.

> h. If you have choices on how you eat, try observing this diet (but without the dairy) for a month and see what happens. It works for some. Here's another description of the same diet. And here's the reason the diet is recommended.

u/Orangebird · 21 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I can imagine finding travel samples of makeup and supergluing this type of button to the top of the cap or these things to the side of the cap, then threading a paper clip through the hole. You could then attach the paper clip directly to your key ring.

Or you could superglue a thick hair elastic to the cap and put a key ring through it. Even a strip of fabric tied in a ring and glued to the cap would work.

There are tons of tiny jars and things to make your makeup portable, so making them key-ring friendly shouldn't be too difficult. However, I would test cap strength first-- My key ring is tossed in my pocket, thrown on the desk, pulled out of a tangle of other pocket stuff, and generally moves around a lot, whatever I attach to it goes through the same rough treatment.

It's a hair twister! It helps with making buns.

Get the silicon type, small size. You will never have a problem again. I can't wear those because I have super thick hair and it rips on it, but if you have slippery hair they should be perfect.

Example: https://www.amazon.com/Scunci-No-slip-Evolution-Ponytailers-14-Count/dp/B003DKO83E?th=1

Hello, friend, let me blow your mind.
Also.

u/w101joy · 8 pointsr/xxfitness

What been a godsend for me has been the scrunci no-slip jelly hair ties. They never stretch out and the silicone material and texture really makes my hair stay in place. I have that heavy, silky Asian hair and normal black hair ties always slip out. But a word of caution is that you have to be careful pulling your hair out lol.

Amazon, like this, this, and this

and then buy a gold chain and connect them. Wayyy cheaper than $900.

u/moosecatoe · 7 pointsr/TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Youre totally right. But most people with long hair take a minute to redo it when it looks like a half exploded firework. Or at least grab another hairtie or clip to pin that mess down and out the way.

Side note: I got these spiral bobby pins that I twirl into my top bun and it keeps that sucker smooth and in place for an 8 hour shift, working out and running, and even swimming. I wish I knew about these when I was still practicing ballet and cheerleading.

u/agiddything · 6 pointsr/bjj

Just started growing my hair out and got this recommendation in a women's jiujitsu forum: https://www.amazon.com/Goody-SlideProof-Elastics-Black-10-count/dp/B00D8XAVZK/ref=sr_1_39?keywords=hair+ties&qid=1572558484&sr=8-39

These particular hair ties work so much better than others. Almost never have to retie my hair during class like everyone else does.

u/bluetagine · 6 pointsr/curlyhair

Deva cuts and styles use these clips to build volume at the root; my stylist used them when I got a deva cut and recommended them to me. I really liked what they did, so I bought some - they are surprisingly foolproof. You can find tutorials online, and you can find the clips for much cheaper elsewhere (I got a pack of a dozen for a few dollars at CVS). I use them both when I diffuse my hair and when I let it air dry.

u/glassescat · 6 pointsr/weddingplanning

I got this one.

The only problem I'm having it's on a clip, not a comb. My hairdresser, for my first test run, pinned it in place and it held. The second time, she did not, and it yanked my hair out.

u/cass1512 · 5 pointsr/curlyhair

I use about 5 pumps of gel, and I use clips like these to add extra volume when I diffuse! They really help control the curl and add some volume, especially on the front pieces.

u/Nextian_Geometry · 5 pointsr/curlyhair

I don't have advice on how to make it work because I have the exact same issue with plopping BUT last time I got my hair cut I asked my hairdresser what I could do to give my curls some more volume around the top of my head and she suggested getting clips like these and inserting them around the crown of my head with the tips pointing toward the top of my head. It holds the roots up while my curls set and then I can just pull them out whenever I want and I have the volume I am looking for. It doesn't in any way solve the problem of not being able to plop my curls so I've just lived without that but they hold up alright anyway. Sorry I can't help with your actual problem! Hope this helps someone at least!

u/gotalotofsoup · 5 pointsr/xxfitness

OMG DRY SHAMPOO. Also, on days I wash my hair, I have a little microfiber wrap thing with a button and a loop to put around my wet hair so I don't have to bring two towels or deal with trying to do everything with a single thin towel. Flip flops are also a must. I keep them in the shoe pocket of my duffel bag. DO NOT BRING A BAR OF SOAP. That shit is a pain to keep anywhere once you wet it. Shower gel or bust. I learned the hard way. I keep everything (including my makeup bag) in my gym duffel and shove it all into a locker when I get there (my gym won't let you keep things in the lockers overnight, so I have to haul it there/back every day). The one thing I haven't figured out yet is how to keep my clothes from staying smelly... I take them out to let them air dry from sweat, but even after washing they still smell terrible. Help. lol.

This is the hair thing I have

u/maarts · 5 pointsr/curlyhair

The plop was my biggest enemy for awhile... until I started using this!

I just plop my hair in the portion of the turban that doesn't twist. This is by far the easiest method of plopping I've found, since the twisty part is secured with a button so the whole thing is ridiculously secure and as tight as you want it to be.

Short answer, yes, use an alum block. Long answer, here's a copy/paste from one of /u/Leisureguy's many posts; it answers your questions pretty well:

>For acne, I recommend:

>a. Use a high-glycerin soap such as Whole Foods 365 glycerin soap with vitamin E (that's one of several glycerin soaps they offer), $2/bar, as a pre-shave beard wash. Wash beard at the sink using your hands, then rinse partially with a splash and apply lather.

These work pretty well, normal hair ties will only go around my hair twice, but these will go round thrice and be snug but not overly tight.

u/megszzz · 3 pointsr/curlyhair

I workout in the mornings so I usually shower every morning so i usually just redo my hair.

In the days that I decide I need more sleep and workout later:
Use a non crease hair tie like these
After working out, I take out my hair tie with my head upside down
With my head still upside down, I use my fingers to loosen up my roots and get them away from laying flat on my head and scrunch my curls a bit
Flip hair back over. Using my hands and water from a sink, I go over my curls to help with frizzes and re position the curls back where they belong (I also have a travel size container with gel in it that will help with the curls forming back together)

u/run_work_mom · 3 pointsr/running

I have long hari that is fine, but I have a TON of it. I swear by a high pony with these - awesome grippy hairties Normal hair ties just slide out of my hair. Buns give me a headache, and braids turn into a whip.

u/toryhallelujah · 3 pointsr/running

Also, I highly recommend these grippy hair ties for athletes! They totally do stay put all day/activity.

u/buttsarefunny · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. I had shoulder-length hair all through high school and my freshman year of college. About halfway through that year, I went completely boy-short with a sort of pixie-ish cut. That has remained my style for 4 years, until I'm now growing it out. So I know short hair decently well. One thing that I learned is while you might not be able to do as many styles with the hair itself, you can rock all kinds of headbands...smaller delicate ones, ones with a bit more bling, or even the hippie look. I had so much fun experimenting, and still do so constantly.

  2. I really want to try these out.

  3. Yes.

  4. Short hairs, no cares!

If you put it in a ponytail while it’s wet, it will have a noticeable bump.

There are also superior types of hair ties. This is my favourite that doesn’t leave bumps. I have thick hair but if your is thinner, you might like something like these. Make sure your hair is dry first!

u/Fribbtastic · 3 pointsr/anime

> How does Hina from Weathering With You tie her hair?

With her hands obviously.

Joking aside and judging by pictures on google like this it seems she just uses a plain hair band.

Closest I could find is this

u/puppylish1028 · 3 pointsr/curlyhair

Hi! We have similar hair, I think! When I went to Devachan they gave me a bunch of clips to use on my roots while my hair is drying - helps that part curl up more. These are the same ones.
I also find that keeping my head upside down until it’s time to SOTC helps a lot. It can be quite the time commitment though.

But honestly, I often find I quite like the straight-ish at the top look. Feels unique :)

P.s. halfie here too!

u/creamcheesefiasco · 3 pointsr/curlyhair

I use a microfibre towel turban (something like this but much cheaper, I find them at the dollar store or big box stores). I keep it in my hair for 10-15 minutes, while I'm getting ready for the day. I find the microfibre really helps to absorb a lot of the water and it does dry my hair faster.

u/Pizzabagelpizza · 3 pointsr/curlyhair

I'm a big proponent of plopping into a turban. When my hair was really long it was a huge help in the morning, plus it does nice things for the lift at the roots.

Do yourself a favor, though, and skip the cheap Walgreens ones. The Turbie Twist has a rougher microfiber that creates frizz and doesn't absorb much moisture. Not so curl-friendly.

Spring for the the Aquis. It's made of the nice, smooth, highly-absorbent type of microfiber. It's also very generously-sized- way deeper than the Turbie Twist. My method is to plop right into the top of the turban (just like you'd do with the tshirt), and wrap kind of loosely (without doing the button). Then, I take a regular cheap Turbie Twist and put that on top, more tightly to secure it. That stays on for about 20-30 minutes.

u/ZimKat · 3 pointsr/femalehairadvice

What's your prep and post shave like?

a. Check the ingredients in your shaving products and know which to avoid---menthol, for example, is not a good idea. Until your acne's in remission, favor unscented shaving creams and soaps.

b. Use a high-glycerin soap such as Whole Foods 365 glycerin soap with vitamin E (that's one of several glycerin soaps they offer), $2/bar, as a pre-shave beard wash. Wash beard at the sink using your hands, then rinse partially with a splash and apply lather.

d. You may need to wet the block in colder climes during the winter, when indoor relatively humidity plummets.

e. Use a fresh towel for every shave. You can buy thin, 100% cotton, lint-free towels called "barber towels" or "bar towels" for under $20/dozen. A wet towel is a microbe incubator.

f. Shave daily. Use very light pressure---think of your skin as being sore, but the razor still must touch it. That kind of light pressure. Daily shaving probably helps by being exfoliating and by the daily alum block and good aftershave---try one of the Thayers witch hazels with aloe vera or one of the witch-hazel-based aftershaves by ProspectorCo.com or StirlingSoap.com. Even store brand witch hazel will be good. Since the shave itself is exfoliating, I suggest restricting exfoliating scrubs to the forehead and nose and not use them where you shave---this is to minimize skin damage.

g. moisturize. moisturizer will help.

h. Buy a bunch of pillowcases from a hotel supply house and use a fresh pillowcase every night.

i. If you have choices on how you eat, try observing this diet (but without the dairy) for a month and see what happens. It works for some. Here's another description of the same diet.

Also for volume, have you tried clipping your roots? these or something like it are helpful. Sometimes when I’m in a rush I’ll clip my roots, blow dry said roots, then drive to work and when I park I’ll take the clips out & SOTC. Good luck!

u/Kathmandu99 · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

ok, high porosity makes sense if it's color treated. So, I use either the Hask Keratin protein mask or the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil deep conditioners, and both of them work really well. In fact, I was having issues just last week because I had moved climates and my hair was getting REALLY dry... so I did an extra-long treatment with the Shea Moisture one (left it in for about 45 minutes) and my hair is MUCH better again. Now, I don't recommend doing that, it risks protein overload, but a good 20 minute treatment might be what you need.

I have to do a mask about once a week to keep mine looking good.

Personally I just use some little butterfly clips that I had lying around, but these ones are the actual recommended style: https://www.amazon.ca/Diane-Double-Prong-Clips-Count/dp/B00143WQI6/ref=pd_cp_194_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00143WQI6&pd_rd_r=b003856c-baf3-11e8-a904-6bfe9a9fef2d&pd_rd_w=Wx9zp&pd_rd_wg=CEFcc&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_p=95448740-5917-4df8-bb6a-086a0d0bb079&pf_rd_r=0ZCG00FMHRGEFESYRHZR&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=0ZCG00FMHRGEFESYRHZR

They're the same as regular hair ties, but they're designed for thick hair so they're bigger by default and have extra stretch. I swear by them when I have braids in.

I'm pretty sure these are the ones I have.

u/tobert · 2 pointsr/longhair

I'm a runner with shoulder-length hair. I usually run with a high ponytail using thick no-damage hair ties. 2 loops. If I want it really tight I can do 3 loops but I've noticed that will sometimes take hairs with it, while 2 loops doesn't.

Pro tip: (maybe?) I grab my bluetooth headphones before doing the ponytail and pull wire slack between the buds through, eliminating all of the wire bounce and any clips in one go. Just be careful pulling it out as the rubber (on most I've seen) will grab hairs.

I haven't found any split ends since my last trim about 2 years ago, so I think it's working well.

I've also started hot yoga and have been doing a low pony tail with the same hair ties. I think it's time to get serious about my learning to braid :)

After a workout I comb my hair gently from the bottom up with a wide-tooth comb. Before I shower. If it's really messed up e.g. from a long/hard/wet run, I use too much conditioner and comb that through - again, gently from the bottom up. Most of the time I simply rinse it without products, washing about once a week and conditioning 1 or 2 times as needed.

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.

This ring is itty bitty!

16.) Something that smells wonderful.

This air freshener. Mmmm

17.) A (SFW) toy.

Amazon lists this as a toy, so I'm going to have to go with that!

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.

These would be great to hang papers and reminders up on the fridge.

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.

I'm obsessed with books, so uh... most of my wish list. Or this bookmark that symbolizes all that is books.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.

I'm sure you've seen this but come on! It's John Snuhhhh!

Bonus! Oregon Fruit

Fear cuts deeper thank swords! Thanks for the contest. =)

I really like the ones with the grippy material twisted around them. I have very thick hair, so I stretch them a bit before I put my hair up. Here is a link: https://www.amazon.com/Goody-SlideProof-Elastics-Black-10-count/dp/B00D8XAVZK/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1499287479&sr=8-1&keywords=grip%2Bhair%2Btie&th=1

this is the cheapest

and

I want this! It is nowhere near 60 dollars, but if that allows you to gift someone else, then that would be rad.

u/marekkane · 2 pointsr/HerOneBag

these things . they also apparently pull out of your hair very easily. I've never used it because I have short curly hair, but my colleagues have and swear by them.

u/seige197 · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

What about these "burlybands"?

u/PinkleopardPJ · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

Hmm good point. I can get them around 3 times but from your description of your hair I think yours is probably thicker than mine.

But I did find [these](Burlybands - The Ultimate Hair Ties for Thick Heavy or Curly Hair. No Slipping Damage Breaking or Stretching Out. Seamless Ponytail Holders Scrunchies Sports Hair Ties for Thick Hair (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HZ653YA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_GUYKzb3JE92Z5 which look pretty awesome.

u/avocadocoast · 2 pointsr/orangetheory

If you have thick hair, I highly recommend these bands from Amazon. They work so well and minimize damage. I then use a smaller band to secure the bun after it's in the Burlyband ponytail. https://www.amazon.com/Burlybands-Ultimate-Slipping-Stretching-Scrunchies/dp/B00HZ653YA?th=1

u/Kheldarson · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I use the DevaCurl DevaClips (https://smile.amazon.com/DevaCurl-3301-Deva-Clips/dp/B00I81IS70/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1543593558&sr=8-2&keywords=devaclips)

I clip the hair along the scalp line, going for lift and a bit of pulling it back, and then try to cross-clip wherever my part is falling at the time.

u/Aynielle · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

These are the devacurl ones, but I found cheap off-brand ones at Sally's that work just as well.

u/Medicei · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

I bought this Faybox clip. It's beautiful in person and way better quality than I was expecting to get since I bought it in some half off sale. ^^"

u/callia106 · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

I got this one it was inexpensive but definitely didn't look it, and was perfect for my fall wedding. Got tons of compliments!

u/pinkitten · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

I wore this comb to my wedding. It's more gold/rose gold looking in person I think. The "branches" are slightly adjustable so the girl doing my hair/makeup had them positioned around the back of my hair/updo.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot no rhinestones!

u/a_herd_of_moosen · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

Mine are by Faybox and I got them from Amazon for around $20 each. Good quality though- highly recommend! Here's the [link] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01B060X0E/ref=sxl2_a_it?qid=1465074608&sr=2) to one of them

u/funky_fresh_kicks · 2 pointsr/femalehairadvice

SPIN PINS. They are the miracle you've been waiting for. I have mid-length thin hair, but they were recommended to me by a former coworker with the waist length, thick beautiful hair. All you do is swirl your hair into a bun and then 'screw' the twisted bobby pin through the bun. IT took me a couple times to figure out how to get a tight hold, but once you figure that out you are gold! And the best part is that when I put my hair up when its a bit wet, I have the most beautiful wavy curls when I take it down later!

The Goody brand pins are great, but expensive for how many pins you get. I only need one with my shorter, thin hair but my friend definitely used two for a stable bun. I've also bought these off-brand pins which are exactly the same thing for way less. I bought those in a gold metallic color and I haven't noticed any chipping or other aging marks on the metallic paint.

Do yourself a favor and try them out. I promise you they are magic!

u/shelbeam · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I was in the military for a few years, so I feel you! My hair was so damaged from the hair ties. I would say avoid regular hair ties and use scrunchies if you can. You could also try spin pins: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5X7AK7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BMeQAb3GE7D4V

I have used two to put my hair in a bun, and it holds even better than hair ties for me.

TBH I wish I would have just chopped my hair off for the military, then I wouldn't have had to worry, lol.

I also used to braid my hair (it was pretty long) and twist the braid into a bun. Then I would get to have waves, even if they weren't my natural waves.

u/minniesnowtah · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

\> with short hair is it really worth it?

Anything is worth a try, but whether it's worth it to keep it up is your call once you see how you like it.

\> Or would a gel be better?

Gel is certainly easier and cheaper, so we recommend it as a starting place. LOC is great too but having that many steps introduces more potential for troubleshooting problems.

\> Can I use tiny butterfly clips to curl my hair while my hair is wet and has styling products to help add more curl?

Yes! Or flat, metal root clips like these (just picked a random one off amazon to link).

You'll also want to experiment with adding protein or not, since your hair feels coarse. I'm not sure whether you'll need more or less (guessing more?) but that's another variable to play around with to improve the texture.

Good luck with everything! Hope that helps.

u/bringmeahigherlove · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

https://www.amazon.ca/Hairdressing-Wobe-Setting-Alligator-Hairpins/dp/B07C17DYNS/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=curl+clips&qid=1565656971&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I bought these recently, they're essentially the same as Devacurl clips but much more affordable. I'm not the user you replied to, but for me, I clip right at the roots and it doesn't interfere with my curl direction at all. This video is really helpful! https://youtu.be/LFLCD12RKbw

u/mtszyk · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I mostly only do it near my part, in one of these styles. I'm really bad at it, but you can get results even if you don't do a super great job. I think I got some cheap pack from amazon. When I'm removing them, I pull a lot of single hairs which is pretty annoying and if plopped or diffused after putting them in, it can be a huge pain.

The results are so nice though!

I use an all rubber hair tie. Slips over mirror when not needed, and since it's black, blends in on my black bike. They have color if wanted.

At first, I tried the X-Grip on my iphone 6, but it would press my volume button. Used it for about 1000 miles and it never got loose as long as I properly positioned it, but I kept worrying about it. Always looking at it. Not liking volume button being pressed I considered trying different size X-Grip, but decided to go with the RAM cradle instead. I never worry about it at all. I do still use the hair tie on it "just in case".

My use, X-Grip is solid, but if you insert too high or low it could move. That is a mistake that could be made. The cradle has a confident "click", and there's no doubt it's in.

When I was little I wanted to use my mom's razor. I was too nervous to try and shave my legs so I started shaving little sections of my arm just to see how it was. I shaved my whole arm. (ARM- not plural) and tried to hide it from her until my hair grew back. I want this! Hey you, Zombie Monkey. I hope this counts since its a story of my arm hair and not head hair! ;)

I would pick /u/nayohmerae as my buddy. And it's not quite a survival tactic, more as I'll be her pet zombie. I have long since accepted my fate as a zombie for my lack of survival instincts. But I have promised to become the ultimate zombie, deck myself out in bullet proof vest, army helmet and wrap my entire body and appendages in barbed wire to make sure that if I get you, I get you good. And she will put me on a leash and I will protect her from all the bad humans out there and will fool other zombies into not realizing there is food around. It'll be great.

And hair ties would help me survive (as a zombie) to keep my hair out of the way and less easier to grab at if humans are trying to escape my chomping jaws !

Damnit Daryl! Clean yourself up!

u/an-choi · 1 pointr/Chefit

Long + thick hair here. I put my hair up in a pony with these hair ties. I have bangs and a lot of wispy flyaways as well so I use clips and a bit of hairspray to hold them in place. Finally I put on a dad hat and go about my day!

u/doomla · 1 pointr/xxfitness

I keep my hair just long enough to have this problem. I use these headbands to keep the pieces that dont reach my ponytail from being a nuisance:

And because my hair is slippery, I like to use these to keep whatever reaches the ponytail in place:

Avoid washing for as long as you can. I wash about twice a week and use dry shampoo in between. I also love those spiral hair ties (like these: Invisibobble The Traceless Hair Ring - Clear - 3 Pack https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00F23MMF6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lmbzDbXZ6M4TS) and I put my hair up a few times per day but can still wear it down.

As for cute styles to wear your hair up... Let me know when you find out 😂 I usually just wear it in a ponytail or bun. I can do a French braid but I'm not very good at it so I usually just wear it to sleep or maybe to work out.

u/rawrtits · 1 pointr/Naturalhair

I'm always weary of having any hair left in my hair ties. The only thing that have worked well for me are invisibobbles.

u/littleredhoodlum · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I have super thick curly hair. Those Walmart ties make it about 2 minutes before snapping. One Christmas my friend got me some BurlyBands and I've never had anything else since.

Sucks that they cost more and it irritates me alot when I lose one, but they do work.

u/rawwwrcaitmonster · 1 pointr/curlyhair

I got mine at Ulta since it was a need-same-day kinda situation, but here's an Amazon link.

u/Hollyingrd6 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Awwdorable

For me it has to be the Monster Boxes just because they are so cute and look like a great place to put gifts.

Second favorite is this pretty pink polka dot hair band I love wearing these while cleaning, post shower, and while doing lawn work. Plus this one looks super soft.

u/squeaktoy_la · 1 pointr/beauty

This one is nice and big and loose so it won't damage your hairdo/curly hair. I have a kitty ear headband too, which I adore, but isn't as good for curls.

Braids! There are a ton of really beautiful styles that you can do with braids.

Another secret if you haven't found them yet- spin pins. I used to use at least 6-12 long pins in my hair daily when I put it up and usually throughout the day they would start to wiggle out. Now I use 2-4 spin pins for a similar style and they stay put all day. You can get the knockoffs on amazon for cheap.

u/Pink-petunias · 1 pointr/curlyhair

If you do buns I highly suggest using either spin pins or bun pins to keep your hair up instead of a hair tie! creaseless hair ties work great to avoid breakage and I hear invisibobbles or "hair coils" work great too. (Somebody else also suggested these)

u/mpond38 · 1 pointr/curlyhair

How often you clarify is really up to you. I find that I need to do it about every 3 weeks (more/less depending on how often I've gone to the gym or other things that tend to get my scalp gross).

Root clipping is where you put little clips like these in your hair right up to the scalp. There's a few different ways to do it. I found this one to be the most helpful, but there's plenty of videos and tutorials.

u/spaceage-crystal · 1 pointr/femalehairadvice

Not sure if this would work for your hair type but with my wavy/curly hair I use the root clipping method while my hair is drying to get more volume.

These are the clips I use: Root Clips

There’s plenty of videos online that will show you how to use them if you just search “root clipping”

u/cyanpineapple · 1 pointr/curlyhair

Apparently the Aquis microfiber turban. i just looked on Amazon for something under $20 and with good reviews. I don't prefer my curls untwisted, so I kind of put them in loosely and then twist the towel only once halfway so I can button it. It holds my curls on top of my head without twisting them, and I love that I don't have to clip it or worry about balancing it. It was a great buy for me.

u/HipsterTribble · 1 pointr/FancyFollicles

Plopping, clipping (can use any type of duckbill clip), mousse/root lifter, etc.

u/oddangergirl · 1 pointr/transpassing

I just use these regular clips. There are all kinds of variations. The dollar store is a great place to pick up a bunch of different types so you can experiment and see what you like. I’ve also used these type of clips as well.

u/Luckystell · 1 pointr/curlyhair

I found them here five dollars for 80 as compared to only 8 deva clips for $17
