Where does this rule come from? Is that his personal rule or a standardized rule? (Or something else?)

And are you planning to make broadcasting a career? If it's just a class for credit, just tie it back and pass the class. If this is for your career, I'm afraid this will be a tougher journey for you. I can't find one male newscaster or weatherman with long hair on TV.

I hate these societal roles, so if you can keep your fierceflow and break into newscasting, I support you 100%! Maybe radio or webcasting would be an easier way to break into TV? People can get used to you as you develop your brand.

As far as styling, you just have to experiment. Everyone looks different on camera, so what might work for one person might not work for you. So in the vein of experimentation, I would recommend a side-part in a manbun. If your hair doesn't brush easy when dry, try towel drying your hair, add a little product (possibly volumizing mousse?) then use this kind of brush:

https://www.amazon.com/Hairbrush-Brushes-Bristles-Straight-Quickly/dp/B07S2PQZ5M/ref=mp_s_a_1_30?keywords=hair+brush&qid=1570086023&s=gateway&sprefix=hair+b&sr=8-30

Sounds like you need top volume, so this kind of brush will move your hair in the direction you want it to go without pasting it to your scalp. You can even wiggle it a little while brushing to keep your hair from going too flat. Then once you have it tied in a bun, let it air dry. Hairspray can help you keep some height too.

I don't know how fine or flat your hair gets, so another experiment is to try this?

For $6 it may be worth trying. If it doesn't blend, get a spray on color that you can find in a drugstore next to the hair dye.

And one final recommendation... ask a girl in your class or on your campus to help you. Girls know long hair!! And they have hair products. They'll find it attractive for a man trying to look manly while keeping the long hair.

Good luck, friend.

Usually these kind of hairpins look like this.

The item in your photo looks like a lock picking tool.

If it were me, I'd put any valuables in a safe deposit box and carry some mace or other self defense items.

As another poster suggested, you can get inexpensive alarms for your doors and windows to use while you're at home.

Please stay safe. It may be a neighbor since they seem to know when you're out. There are ways to use an old cell phone as a security camera if you need an inexpensive alternative.

I tend to stay away from the typical vintage styles worn by many in the scene(eg victory rolls), because they don't work on my hair without a lot of damaging back combing and hair spray.

You don't say what length / type of hair you have, but it's important to get hair pins that work for you. Bobby pins are useless if you want a hairstyle to last all night. Try some of these:

Generally braids tend to be more secure and I like buns so everything is pinned up and out of the way of me and my partner. Here are a few styles you might like to try.

It's okay. It's really nice to see a dude with long hair who doesn't leave it dirty and greasy, lol! Not a dig at you. I'm just so tired of seeing dudes like, grow out hair and then not fucking wash it. Why?

The sideburns are a little messy, but that's covered in other comments. The nape of your neck has a lot of baby hairs, but they're all in a really uniform length... Do you cut them that way? It could be breakage from the hair band, so you might want to switch to a hair stick or a comb like this or this to prevent that if your hair tends to break. If you cut it that way... stop it.

The frizz and flyaways could be from static or dryness. There's some non static combs. You can go high grade or low grade. For dryness, you can try a leave in conditioner, but I don't know what dudes put in their hair, so I don't have any real recommendations.

Maybe something like this with a few of these thrown in?

Whatever you do, if you use etsy, make sure you also check amazon for the pieces you're looking at. Etsy is full of resellers taking pieces from amazon/aliexpress and reselling them at a huuuuuge markup.

For wedding accessories, always check amazon. Like this, this, this, this, all $8-12

The corkscrew bobby pins are amazzzzzzzing!!! Admittedly, when I first started using them, I'd have to use 5, but that bun wouldn't budge. Now that I'm acquainted with them, I can get the same hold with 3. And they don't stretch or bend or break.

Yes! I get the same thing. It goes all around my head though. Thankfully the stuff on my forehead is very sparse. (My husband things they are hilarious)

What has helped for me is using Hair Sticks like these!

That way you can put your hair in a bun without pulling and tearing your hair. It has only helped so much though. I think that hair is just delicate honestly. It feels like the little baby hair son my forehead never grow at all.

Can confirm. It’s a type of bobby pin.

Don't do it! I ordered a few off of Amazon! Super cheap! I really like this one!

This is the one I got:

My hair is waist-length again, and I can get a messy bun with 2 spin pins, a nice proper bun with 4 spin pins.

However, I have also twisted two spin pins into each other before and that was an absolute nightmare, so sometimes I use a big claw clip to just hold my bun in place on the top. That works best if I twist super well.

I have also used hair sticks, just basic ones I got from Sally Beauty Supply like these, but I found that I have to use 3-4 to get a secure hold, which can look a little bizarre. Sometimes I use pens or chopsticks as a make-shift way to hold a bun but they don't stay in place for long.

If you find anything on Etsy, do yourself a favor and check Amazon before purchasing! I found almost identical hairpieces (they even used the same photos) selling for $7 on Amazon when they were being sold for $44 on Etsy.

If you do buns I highly suggest using either spin pins or bun pins to keep your hair up instead of a hair tie! creaseless hair ties work great to avoid breakage and I hear invisibobbles or "hair coils" work great too. (Somebody else also suggested these)

There are tons of options on Amazon, but I’m sure if you google search hair chopsticks something adequate will turn up. I love them!

I've always used U shaped bobby pins. The other kind almost always cause me trouble. They look like this. Rather than pinching the hair into place, it works more like a hair stick and uses gentle leverage to keep locks where they belong. Even before I started CGM, I found they disrupted my curl pattern less and reduce breakage or pulled hairs.

There are also screw pins which are a lot more gentle. They look like this. I haven't tried them yet, but they serve a similar purpose of using gentle leverage and friction to hold hair in place rather than gripping like regular bobby pins do.

Regardless of what you use to get your hair out of your face, there's still the matter of the hair being stretched. To minimize stress on my upper layers, I don't put my hair up the same way twice in a row. One day I'll wear a wide cloth headband. The next, I'll gently gather it into a clip. Another day, I'll wear a handmade wood or bone comb. Mine looks a little like this, but smaller. I also like the ones that are U shaped like the bobby pins. In fact, I like the 2 prong combs better than the pins. I buy a lot of handmade items like that made out of wood, bone, and leather such as the hair stick barrettes. The point is to change it up to keep the same hair from being stretched in the same way every day.

The worst thing I did was putting it up while it was still damp or wet. Even root clipping for extra body during my regular styling routine has given me trouble. I have to take the clips out before my hair dries completely at the roots because my hair shrinks as it dries and starts to pull. If the hair is bound while it is wet, it can dry stretched to it's maximum which can cause permanent damage, especially if done daily. Even if your hair is completely dry, make sure you're not puling it too tight.

So basically, play with your hair and allow yourself to have some variety. And wear it down as often as you can. I'll often throw it in a claw clip to buy groceries, but take it out as soon as I get in the car to go home. My new favorite way to get it out of my face is a wide cloth headband, though. Someone gave me a couple of what they call neck gators last year, and I've come to appreciate them a lot more since I started CG for getting hair out of my face.
