I highly recommend Moosehead Grubby Putty as it easily washes out and holds well throughout the day, even after wearing a scrum hat the putty will hold my hair back to its original shape. Smells nice like a drumstick lolly as well
Is it just me who think they are overrated for the price? I think there are so many products out there that are better and cheaper compared to HDF.
Here are some better alternatives for the better price per oz:
Clay
Pomades
I've read that shampooing your hair everyday is harmful. That being said, won't products build up in your hair if you don't shampoo? Would shampooing 3x a week (e.g., M/W/F) be an adequate compromise?
Also, any recommendations for hair wax? I tried Fiber and I didn't really like it. I'm looking at this. Thoughts?
I have that exact hairstyle. I use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NFUO43G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gZhvCbNZFCHC2. It’s cheap and easy and works well.
Xtah, for sure. Check [THIS OUT] (http://www.amazon.com/Pete-and-Pedro-Clay/dp/B00CHUHOUA) too for longer hair.
I have longer hair (like you); Xtah does not have a shine and can look greasy if over applied but should do what you need it to. Pete and Pedros is very nice smelling and hold but may not have the hold you need with wavy hair.
I’ve always liked a putty to do chunky spikes like that
Garnier Fructis Style Power Putty Surfer Hair 3.4 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MFC0LQE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eDPWBbJRP23PJ
To be honest, doesn’t look like he’s using any product other than a blow dryer. If anything, he may be using an extremely tiny amount of a fiber cream or something similar (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0167IIBQS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qEP4CbJD1VKMJ)
Try this molding paste. It ends up holding very thick with a low shine and dries out in place. Its a good price as well for the amount that you get.

Try this stuff.
Nature's Zero Matte Clay
It really gives my hair a great texture and light hold that I can shape throughout the day, running my hand through my hair. Most of it washes out from water but there's a slight bit of
greasinesswaxiness left which I find lets me go a day without putting anything in it. It washes off hands easy, too.Ingredients:
Water, Kaolin Clay, Beeswax, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Honey, Palm Oil, Sunflower Oil, Olive Oil, Glycerine (Kosher, of vegetable origin), Aloe Vera gel, Unrefined Hemp Seed Oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Sorbitan Oleate (emulsifier), Soy Bean Protein, Sorbitol (moisturizer), Spearmint oil, Peppermint Oil.
I think your hair looks pretty good as is!
If you wanted you could make the sides shorter and more even with your hairline. I normally get a number 3 on the sides when I get my hair cut and leave the top long
If you want to mix up what products you use, I use this paste for a strong hold and this one when I want to have more texture.
Hope this helps!
Revlon Professional Style Masters Creator Matt Clay
If your hair isn't particularly cooperative, use this stuff. You only need a little bit, and with the right amount, it'll hold pretty damn well and not look greasy/oily.
Well I can't say I really use hairspray.
Using this though.
Livegain Motiv Wax Sexy 3.04 fl oz./90ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007FT4Q0E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BrphzbKHKANW0
It should have a light finish.

I have tried so many products but nothing beats this!
Here in germany it costs 4 euros
I like Crown Shaving Matte Styling Clay.
Male here trying to understand all this information when it comes to curly/wavy hair. My hair/scalp seems to be dry. I started using Dove Men+Care 2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioner, Anti Dandruff a few days ago. I was using a different Dove men’s shampoo every other day. With this new one, I’m planning to only use it twice a week. I use to blow dry my hair but I decided to stop doing that for about a week now. My goto hair product is Layrite Natural Matte Cream but I’m looking to try Buck's Burley Hair Cream for Men . I’ve been looking at leave in conditioners but I’m not really too sure what they do and why I should. I’d really appreciate it if someone can give some recommendations on products or routines and explain some stuff to use or try! Thanks so much for reading! Anything will help.
Edit: If it helps, I have short/medium wavy red hair with some curls mixed in that like to sweep back. Can provide pictures if that’ll help!
I love this product for giving a little volume to my roots in the morning. Working with the clay and the scent are both very soothing, especially when I feel like my refreshed curly hair is just dry and wet dog like. This is a very soothing scent.
Shea Moisture Dragon's Blood & Coffee Cherry Volume & Texturizing Clay for Unisex, 4 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077C1CM19/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_y-w0CbPJKP1JC
Huge bummer. I'm on my last container and I'm milking it for as long as possible. I've tried Viking Clay, American Crew, and Mitchell..none of them come close.
Been searching for a flexible, clean hold like the technical clay and just ordered this. Hopefully, it meets expectations..
Pete and Pedro Putty - Hair Putty for Men with Strong Hold and Matte Finish https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CHVX10Q/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_fyrpxbVMW4CFH
I use this: https://www.amazon.com/Alterna-Bamboo-Style-Sculpting-Unisex/dp/B006VDXFYS
Looks far more natural than gel and holds incredibly well.
