Ever seen a camp chair, the ones that unfold and are basically canvas strung between metal bits?

A sky chair is like that, but with wood, and suspended off the ground.

Rather than hang it from the new roof, I bought a stand for it - and here's the chair itself - not the exact one I bought, looks identical.

The chair is a BITCH to put together. The stand, not so much.

That's a pretty slick setup, I found them on Amazon but I'm wondering how hard they would be to fabricate.

Very curious about this too! I've been wanting a portable hard point, so far have looked at:

A quick note : if you haven't yet purchased the ENO Doublenest, you might consider getting a longer one. Try hammockforums.net for advice. Also keep in mind that Dutchware will sell you a 10' hammock in polyD fabric for $33 + shipping, 11' for $35. Last I checked an ENO DN was like $70, so even if you got a full suspension from Dutch as well you'd only be a few dollars more than the ENO (and you'd have an actual high quality suspension).

As for the stands:

Both of those stands are really short. At 6'3" I believe you'd be generally recommended at least an 11-foot hammock, which neither of these will support. I have a Byer/Amazonas Vario hammock stand, which can be adjusted from 11' up to 15'. I think those are getting harder to find, but REI and Amazon both sell what appears to be its successor, the Byer Ceara. It costs a little more than either of your linked stands, but if the build quality is anything like my Vario, it's worth it. Most importantly, it is adjustable and the minimum length will actually be comfortable for someone your height.

If you're interested in building one yourself, this Google search should get you to hammockforums.net, which has a huge variety of options. The Turtledog/Turtlelady stand is probably one of the most popular designs, but it has been a couple years since I've looked into it and I'm sure they've come up with some new stuff since then.

Edit: One other option is to hang the hammock directly on the walls. Depending on how old or shoddily made your house is, and how your room is constructed, this may be a tricky proposition; but many people have had success screwing eye bolts into studs and simply hanging a hammock off them. The huge upside to this is that you have absolutely no hardware taking up floor space when the hammock is not in use; you just push it over to one and you have the full floor space of the room available to you.

Be warned though, some people have done things like pulled walls out of alignment, torn holes in the wall or old studs, etc. So do some due diligence on the construction of the house if you're going to try this route.

i mean, this dude is looking for a temporary solution for a few months, and you're trying to direct him towards expensive lightweight stuff for camping, when a $15 amazon hammock and straps would work fine. /u/LimitedWard ... if you arent looking for a permanant setup, look at one of these

i have one and its held up to some stupid levels of abuse from drunk friends, sugar high children, and some heavyweights.

as for your anchors etc, i havent got a clue. personally id probably go for a stand since you are in an apartment and probably cant make major modifications required for hanging a hammock.

the stand is going to be the pricey part tho... i got mine on sale for like $50, but i had the option to wait... im sure you are trying to do this asap.

and id personally get the 15' to give the straps some room to absorb the vibrations.

and i get it, i started with saying go cheap and now im saying go expensive... but if you go the wall anchor route, be very careful. hammocks exert a LOT of lateral force. walls werent meant to hold laterally, and if you have plaster walls, with crappy old studs... well... use caution for sure.

you can also make a stand quite cheaply if price is a concern.

It does look rad. Though I'm kinda leaning towards one of these. Looks classy. And ~56" high. And hey, what are wedding registries for if not to buy stuff you might not splurge on yourself? :)

Oh! That's right, you did mention that. As much as having servants hold it for you, and perhaps fan you with banana tree leaves, is interesting, it's also morally and legally questionable. What is not however are hammock stands. They are the metal frames you see on some store-made hammocks, but without the hammock. If you're good at welding, this may be an easy project, but if you're not my suggestion would be to purchase one, such as this one. However, this does mean your hammock will have to be a specific length. If you're good at installing fences, then perhaps two 4 x 4 fence posts grounded with cement bases in the ground may be more your style. You can place hooks in them and hang the hammock on them. Here are some guidelines on how to do it

Impressive. I've spent most of this year sleeping in a hammock after our bedding was infested with bedbugs. One of these on one of these. It's quite comfy.

For a stand you could buy this or you could use eye bolts and put them in the wall studs. Also I have found hammocks as cheap as 10$, 16.50 with shipping or you could get this one. I use kevlar Mule tape for my tree straps, you could hook these to I beams or whatever sturdy things there are and make them longer to as needed.

I use this one

Dude I have this and it fits my eno doublenest perfectly. It also comes with a pretty nice cotton hammock. I sleep in it every night. Can take down and set up in like 5 minutes.
