It says that the hooks have a 100lb capacity each. The truth is that they can probably hold more, but I would consider the following:

  1. You're cutting it close at 180 lbs

  2. That rating is assuming a load in line with the hook axially, which you aren't doing. You're creating a moment, which changes the situation.

  3. The 200 lbs rating would be for a static, even load. If you dropped the bar, causing an impulse, or racked it so that the weight was temporarily all on one hook, you could have a problem.

Considering all of that- don't do it. If it were me, and you were dead set on using the studs in your wall for this purpose, I'd find something like a corner brace which has a triangular shape:

    http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Hardware-2-Inch-Corner-Plated/dp/B00004Z0V0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1421627249&sr=8-6&keywords=corner+brace

But with a hook or knob at the end and more heavy duty than that one. Put some heavy duty screws in each one to hold it to the wall and I think that would serve you better.

If you're really set on using hooks or something similar, I'd at least double up and probably find something even more heavy duty as well. In fact, use that advice for whatever solution you come up with. Be safe, then double it. I used to do pullups from a floor joist using 4 smaller hooks to hold the bar, weighing about 200 lbs. That did hold just fine, but again, that was using the hooks in line with the load.

I use two u hooks and a 2x4 turned on side for my rental properties when there is a serious concern of forced entry.

FastCap SpeedBrace is your friend. I have 5 of these, on every other stud, holding up a 10 LF maple butcher block top (about 300 lbs) with no issues. Been there for years. They have a notch on the back to use along with a ledger.

I built a computer desk using a long Ikea countertop and metal cabinets. Before clamping a dual monitor VESA mount, I reinforced the countertop with a metal strip. You can buy them from Amazon or Home Depot.

Hm I'm going to guess it's a 4 inch zinc-plated corner brace with weather-proof evergreen paint.

Here's the amazon link

If you can't then regular plates with two screw holes will be just fine for your application. Something like this will work:

Okay so here’s the thing a verse file (has directions also)

Connectors- ec3 and xt60 plus some wiring

Plates for the ego battery terminal

Edit: I am planning on a video for the process of building too.

Possibly some Metal Brackets could work. You'll just need to look at finding some with the right diameter screw holes.

Also this would look God awful, but that's the true MacGyver way.

I agree that option two is better. I think your brackets should be ok, I think that a heavier "mending plate" style might be a better choice though. (like this)

The most critical connection will be the mending plate to the counter on the left (the fully supported one) as it will bear all of the pressure of the unsupported counter.

Use screws just a bit shorter than the thickness of your counter top. Predrill using a bit slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw shank.

Use four brackets at minimum.

Does it have to be the block shape? If not, these brackets might suffice:

From a professional cabinetmaker, angle braces won’t work well long term. The front edge of the desk will sag over time. Try this instead:
