The Lockpicking Lawyer recommend this for a good value lock. It isn't pick proof but it is great if you're on a budget. It is gonna provide some difficult to physical and picking attacks. Its good for locking up your shed and such things.

Here are the locks you would used to lock up something very valuable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6iMmCSayBQ

Someone was inside the room or someone locked it then went out through a window. Chances are this photo was not taken by the OP or his story is made up.

Edit: Apparently it is like this. It must be a bitch to lock when you leave.

u/CaptainRadd · 144 pointsr/funny

Well This is the product. I wasted some minutes and found it. Doesn't say its a security mailbox anywhere on the page. Aaaand shows every moving part of the mailbox. This post is nowhere near funny and you just bought a item that doesn't fit your needs. IMHO

u/WhyBePC · 106 pointsr/funny

OP bought a locking mailbox.

Nowhere in the description does it state that it's a security mailbox or even mention the word "security" in the description.

>(thank goodness with my big dog)

Good puppy.

>He is lucky he was a) not shot and b) not mauled.

Yes. Yes he is.

I can only give practical advice and someone else will come along with possibilities shortly. A cheap way to get some piece of mind? (I have a front door that will only lock the deadbolt with some begging and pleading and some kind of secret handshake that I haven't learned) Get a door brace until you can get a locksmith out to fix your deadbolt. There are a bunch available. You can probably find one at a local hardware store. I'm not recommending this one specifically - I'm just starting with search terms and ideas that may help you sleep.

You can call a locksmith and have them fight with your deadbolt. It may be an easy fix.

There are several people on here who are police officers who will probably tell you that if they know all they need to know they won't put you through a really in-depth interview.

There are also self defense classes available and if you call the local police department and tell them who you are and what happened they may have some other ideas/resources as well.

Hug your puppy for us and I'm sorry this happened to you.

u/reeuuk · 31 pointsr/funny

Honestly you sound like a jerk, op. I looked up the item and no where on the description does it say it's a "security mailbox"
Also on the features it tells you just how wide the opening is. Yeah it's a bad design but it's you're responsibility to figure out what it is you are buying and if it fits your needs.

Our toddler did the same, these are amazing and now on every door!

u/The_Actual_Devil · 15 pointsr/funny

To be fair, op is just karma whoring, this mailbox isn't marketed in any way as "secure". It's just a regular mailbox that has a door in case you can't reach all the way to the bottom.

The dimensions of the slot are plainly stated as well.

Yup. Expanding spray foam. That stuff is awesome. Unsure about brand, but looks like Great Stuff Expanding Spray Foam

u/her_nibs · 14 pointsr/ottawa

You can get a chain lock that has a key lock in it, that you can lock and unlock from either side of the door. It's not a replacement for a deadbolt or anything, but it will give shifty landlords a moment's pause, at least. A product I would not have known about if not for the slumlords at CLV!

Do go to the landlord-tenant board -- they are pleasant to deal with and generally effective. You can also try bylaw services -- "By-law provisions concerning zoning, business licences, and the maintenance and upkeep of existing buildings, including rental properties, are the responsibility of the City’s By-law Services Branch Community and Protection Services Department." It sounds like the place is run-down enough that it'd arouse their interests.

u/sabowski · 14 pointsr/pics

I don't know what exactly is going in this situation, but this exists

u/llamanoir · 13 pointsr/childfree

First, I'd put away any of your fragile and expensive collectibles. Put them on a high shelf or see if you can keep them at a trusted friend's house.

Try to get a latch for your door or a door knob cover.

As far as babysitting, if you just do a crappy job, they won't ask you to do it (hopefully). If they leave you with them, call the parents constantly and ask dumb questions about childcare.

  • "What do you mean I'm supposed to put a clean diaper on the baby instead of leaving it naked in the crib?"

  • "What do you mean the small kid wasn't supposed to have candy for dinner?"

  • "What do you mean I wasn't supposed to invite over my friend with a criminal record?"

Better yet, leave the house as soon as the parents start heading for the door.

If you're really paranoid about the sun, you can always put on a clear UV film on your skylight so you can still enjoy it. There are lots of them available, the one I linked to is just the first one that popped up.

u/lux_nox_ez · 11 pointsr/legaladvice

You can get door chains that can be locked/unlocked from outside the door,

https://www.amazon.com/National-Hardware-Keyed-Chain-Brass/dp/B000CRFWEU

u/ReticulateLemur · 11 pointsr/toddlers

We put this on our front door to keep the toddler from opening it on her own. It's been working well, though it can be a bit sticky at times for the adults if you're not familiar with how to work it.

u/peoplebuttspongecake · 11 pointsr/rpg

This is a great idea!

To make it even easier:

1 inch Felt Pads

I inch printable labels

1 inch wooden disks

No cutting required.

u/JMJimmy · 10 pointsr/videos

/u/LockPickingLawyer/ applies the force in a similar way as the hammer does. The wrenches apply the force to the shackle while the hammer applies it to the lock body but they target the same point - where the cutout in the shackle meets the locking lug.

The wrench attack fails if you've got a long shackle though and when it's attached to something that interferes with your ability to place the wrench in the correct position at the top of the shackle. A hammer (or pry-bar) attack only needs the ability to get in-between the shackle and pull away from what it is attached to.

The point is either way that other styles aren't as susceptible because the forces can't be applied to that section of the lock.

u/TriflingGnome · 9 pointsr/Surface

So, while the flex hinge on the SP4 is fantastic, it can sometimes be annoying when I try to use the pen at a low angle. The pressure of my palm against the screen would push the hinge further back as the aluminum hinge doesn't provide enough friction.

I bought these to try out, and while they are much thicker than I would like, it does provide enough friction.

As you can see, however, the hinge doesn't fully close so I probably won't keep it on for too long.

If anyone has better suggestions / fixes let me know!

You might not like this idea much, but.... Could you move her into your room? That way it's more likely she'll wake you up when she wakes up? Put a lock like this on your door so she can't get out without you. You can put a potty chair in the room so she can go to the bathroom during the night if she needs to.

As for her actions toward others, do you think you could convince your other children to ignore her when she hurts them? For instance, they're playing together and she pulls their hair, they just get up and walk away from her. They can come be in the same room as you, and if she continues to harass them, you can physically restrain her. Just don't speak to acknowledge her beyond physically preventing her from hurting others (or herself). Watching her siblings just walk away from her, or not acknowledging her existence may be the catalyst to her wanting their attention. If she's lonely, she'll learn how to get attention the right way.

u/Beth_S · 8 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

We used these with my mother.

Put it near the top of the door and the door will not open. The metal is light-weight enough that you could force it open in an emergency.

u/snow_leopard77 · 8 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

If you don't want to bother with sunscreen and you're concerned about aging, it's not a bad idea to buy a UV-blocking window film just for that one window. They're fairly cheap and easy to put on. Amazon even sells a roll for $30.

u/AlfonsoTheX · 7 pointsr/woodworking

Great ideas in this thread; I'll put in a plug for the GlueBot - good deal less than $50, but there is a little accessory kit you could add to bring it up closer to $20. Maybe for an occasion other than Valentine's Day.

It is definitely something I didn't know I needed until I used it.

u/some_random_kaluna · 7 pointsr/LetsNotMeet

These are door braces that you put underneath the door handle and set in place.

Get a couple when you're going on vacation, and some door stoppers too. It'll make you a harder target, and buy you more time.

And the next time you're down in Cancun, buy a dinky-little tourist machete. The next guys that try to force their fingers in, well... you can slice them off. Their screams of pain should be loud enough to alert security.

I have Yale touchscreen locks. Bonus: they're pick-proof.

u/throwawaytnt · 5 pointsr/lockpicking

Alright, so this is risky -recommending these picks with the admin here, but I've got my reasons.

This set right here was my first lock picking set. It has everything you need to attack low security locks, but you do need to put some work into them with some sandpaper. Here is my 30 minute video review. I think I cover everything in this video if you feel like dedicating your time.

If you have more money in the budget, Southord sells a decent set for about $25 US. Link

Also, I really love Sparrows stuff. They're great for higher security locks and their tools are very presentable to any prying eyes. Plus, they require much less finishing. Here are a few good beginner kits:

One

Two

BTW, here's a copy-pasta that I made if you live in the US and want to order from Sparrows:

To get the most bang out of your buck, you want to spend more than $24.72 (total). This is because the Canadian currency's value is less than the US currency's value. Math below.

Break-even point where $CAD = $USD for Sparrows Lock Picks:

Conversion rate: $1 CAD ~ $0.78 USD

Shipping rate: $6.99 CAD

0.78(x + 6.99) = x

0.78x + (0.78)(6.99) = x

(0.78)(6.99) = 0.22x

(0.78)(6.99)/0.22 = x

x ~ $24.72 CAD and USD.

Of course, you could always PM me, and I could put together a list of stuff to fit your budget.

Locks to pick

  • Beginner: Easily found at Walmart. Low security, 4 pins. You can learn Top of Keyway (TOK) and Bottom of Keyway (BOK) very easily on this. This has low tolerance machining, but the great news is that you could feel the pins setting! Plus they're nice and cheap. Master No. 3 and No. 5 are good beginner locks, but unfortunately, they're super expensive relative to Walmart security.

  • Advanced: This is where you start hitting security pins. This will have 2 spools out of 4 pins total, but you will absolutely feel them. Many would recommend the Master 140, but personally, those spools are too low quality and 1 spool out of 4 pins is not enough to get a good feel.

Feel free to ask me anything!

A common variation on the standard chain security device.

Keyed Chain Door Lock
https://www.amazon.com/National-Hardware-Keyed-Chain-Brass/dp/B000CRFWEU

Normally it would be mounted so that the key isn't needed to unlatch it from inside. The one you picture just has the key lock part mounted outside the door trim and that affects the reach of the chain. It's questionable if you could even open the door enough to reach in with the key in that position.

u/insipidgoose · 5 pointsr/vinyl

This was also my first turntable. May I recommend a small upgrade that will improve the sound quality?

This may also be a better solution to your speaker / turntable configuration given the limited space:

Shelves

Padding

You can place the speakers on the top of the Kallax with the turntable (normally not recommended), and then cut the anti-vibration padding to fit your needs.

In any event, don't pay the haters any mind, and welcome to the hobby!

You can help with the vibration by putting her bed and yours on sorbothane pads. Sorbothane is the brand name for really really soft rubber which will stop vibrations being transmitted through it.

You can measure "air vibration" with a microphone. Sound = vibrating air after all.

You can use an app on your phone to measure floor and ceiling vibration using its accelerators.

u/fuzeebear · 5 pointsr/MusicBattlestations

From the pic, looks like the feet are connected to the shelf pieces but not the desk itself. That's a good choice in case you ever need to adjust move the stands.

You might consider ordering some sorbithane pads to place between the feet and desk, to make them anti-skid and to eliminate any vibrations caused by uneven contact. Check Amazon, it should be fairly inexpensive.

Regarding personal security, window locks are all and good, but be sure to get security film as well. It's surprisingly cheap (dunno how good this brand is, but 30 inches by 6.5 feet for $40)

A good security film goes on clear, or close enough and makes it dramatically more difficult to break the glass. It's not the end-all be-all, of course, but it should buy you more time if he goes full psycho and tries to break in.

And if there's any chance at all that he has a key to your place, rekey. Replacing locks is easy and relatively inexpensive.

u/SolusOpes · 5 pointsr/preppers

Buy clear Security film from Amazon.

Remove when you leave.

The stuff on Amazon isn't the most amazing stuff. But it's still quite good. But since you rent there's no point in having the top shelf stuff professionally installed.

u/tkbisign · 5 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I use this for lockers and this for my storage unit.

u/robmcguinness · 5 pointsr/Abode

The Abode Reddit Wiki has a list of unofficial compatible devices which includes the Yale lock. I purchased Yale Assure Lock Key Free Touchscreen Deadbolt with Z-Wave in Satin Nickel (YRD240-ZW-619) from Amazon and it works like a charm with the Abode gateway. As soon as I can I'm buying another lock for the other entry door.

Best of luck.

Glubot - it looks funny to a non woodworker, but it is an amazing thing to have around the shop. It makes glue ups about 100 times more enjoyable. Maybe get some silicone brushes to go with it.

Magnifying Lamp - a great addition to any shop. Be sure to get one with a long arm like this one so he can mount it behind his bench and still be able to use it.

Incra Rulers - these are the best damn rulers you'll ever use. The slots make consistent marks that are very reliable. A 12 inch T ruler would be best, but this one is also cool.

Wool Socks - if you live in a cold climate and his shop isn't heated, this would be an awesome gift. I got these socks specifically and they are awesome. Me feet never overheat, but they keep me very warm and are very comfortable. This is a damn good deal actually... I might order these now.

u/mtux96 · 4 pointsr/daddit

These might work as well if he can access the track where the doors slide on.

But, kids can be pretty strong. I had to screw these chains on some of my cabinets because those plastic ones get broken a couple seconds after I install them.

I know of two, purchasable options that exist:

Security window film on the inside of windows - won't stop glass from breaking, but will control glass particles and could prevent something like a branch breaking all the way through the glass: https://www.amazon.com/Security-Window-Film-Wide-Roll/dp/B004LDBPY2

Hurricane clips exist, which let you place plywood in the window casing without drilling (not an option on all window types, but pretty great if it works for your space): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PYV0P0/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_AlBADbHFM1CCB

I just bought 4 of these on amazon

Master Lock 140D Solid Brass Keyed Different Padlock with 1-9/16-Inch Wide Body, 1/4-Inch Shackle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004SQL7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_x.SVBb77BTH8P

Are these similar to the 140. Or something completely different

u/e12532 · 3 pointsr/myevilplan

Get some of this stuff - expanding foam - should be able to pick it up at any hardware store. It's basically Styrofoam in a can and has a flexible nozzle - you should be able to squirt it into the holes in the locker, filling it with a foam that will rapidly harden, ruining anything inside and making it very hard to open.

u/yoinkmasta107 · 3 pointsr/guns

I assume you mean this. The reviews are mixed. Some say it's great, others say that it has some serious flaws.

If I lived in a place where I felt I needed that, I'd rather upgrade to solid wood doors and replace all the hardware to reinforce it better, get an alarm system, a dog, a gun and maybe a solid wood door with deadbolts on the bedroom (just as a second layer of protection) before getting that thing.

u/Glyph8 · 3 pointsr/onewheel

The Amazon link to the lights is in that post (make sure you clip the coupon, it knocks them down a buck or two, so I think they end up being $18), I'll assume you can find zipties, and this is the adhesive non-slip, just cut to fit (make the length starting from the lens of the light, but stopping before the butt - the butt screws up and down to cover the charge port, so you want it to spin freely):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SL0KJC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Buy a big pack of zipties, you may have to tweak slightly a couple times to get it right where you want it (make sure you position them so that you can get at the charge port). One ziptie goes on either side of the wheel axle, so the light doesn't slide forward or back, stays right alongside the tire, max protected. The pocket holder on the flashlight is used to hold one ziptie, and there's a little depression on the light body below the lens that holds the other.

I have both a yale (keyless) and a schlage connect. I like them both. Here are a few notes about them both.

-The yale feels more solid (heavier vs schlage) schlage case is plastic, not sure about yale.

-yale appears to be more element resistant with a gasket, schlage does not have one.

-yale you have to press an unlock key after entering code so codes can be different lengths, schlage unlocks as soon as correct code is entered and all codes have to be same length.

-yale is quieter, schlage is loud.

-yale has a nice little jingle that plays when lock is successful, schlage makes no sound or it can just beep.

-yale you lock by putting Palm on the touchpad, schlage you touch the "schlage" button to lock.

-the yale can store something like 250 codes, the schlage only 30.

I love them both. Yale seems to function more solidly but the schlage is a little simpler to lock and unlock, which the wife prefers. So I moved yale to the back door and schlage is on the front.

Oh and I use them with smartthings. More of the schlage advanced functions are available to smartthings, but both locks can be code managed and lock/unlocked using built-in smartthings tools (yale with z-wave module installed).

I have this yale:

I used velcro command strips and cut them down to fit behind the flat piece of the stand so they can ideally not be seen. They’ve worked great and I’ve had no issues with them falling as they’re sturdy.

u/FullKage · 2 pointsr/lockpicking

This is exactly what I would recommend as well. Although if you can grab a cutaway lock over an acrylic, I think they’re a bit better. But you’ll soon be done with both so it’s probably a moot point. Then I’d go MasterLock #3 and then into MasterLock 140, both are pretty available either online or in stores.

MasterLock #3 are $6 on Amazon.

MasterLock 140 are $7 on Amazon.

This was me after like 2 days with a cheap lock pick set from amazon.

Got the Master Lock from a local grocery store for $8...I would suggest gettin a different lock if you want to keep your things lol

u/anarchtica · 2 pointsr/lockpicking

For the Abus 64TI/50, I use the Peterson .040 pry bar and Peterson hook 1 in .018. Once you've picked it a few times and know the binding order, the lock becomes pretty easy to pick consistently.

The Master Lock 570 is a challenging lock due to the dead core. I recommend working your way up to this lock. The Master Lock 140, Brinks 40mm (non-brass), and Abus 55/40. For these locks I use Sparrows' BOK tension and Peterson hook 1 in .025.

Once you've got these down, you can step up to the Paclock 90A, Master Lock 410, and American 1100. For these locks I'll use the previously mentioned Peterson hook 1 in .018, Peterson hook 7 in .018, the previously mentioned Peterson .040 pry bar, and the Peterson .050 pry bar.

Good luck!

I got a Ziotek Chassis lock to prevent people from opening the case, to quickly steal the GPU. Yes, anyone can bypass these lock, but it would be more challenging than just having thumb screws.

I plan on, within a few weeks, drill a small hole at the back of the chassis, enough to fit one of these padlock using this security cable , tied down to either the bed or desk.

u/beeedy · 2 pointsr/DIY

If there is significant rot you should look into replacing the compromised sections. To plug holes I have found "GREAT STUFF" works pretty well depending on the size of hole. They sell it at nearly any home improvement store and even Amazon

If the problem is only around the screws, your only real solution would be to replace the bad screws. Again, if you don't feel comfortable getting on the roof because of structural problems it may be time to replace the rotted sections.

Drill a tiny hole in the wall, and empty the bottle in the wall near the pipe, it expands and might give you enough insulation in there to keep it from freezing and without opening the wall up. If the wall is white get some of this and just wipe it over the hole you made, or if its in a not so noticeable place, fuck it and leave it or get some similar looking paint and cover it. This is all a last resort attempt before opening the wall and insulating it yourself, no guarantees this will work at all.

One of the primary values of the glu-bot for woodworking is that you can use in multiple orientations, but it is also amazing at keeping glue for long periods of time and is fairly cheap.

Does your apparent door open to an inside common area like a lobby or hallway?

http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/3781.103

3781.103 Deadbolt locks or equivalent security locking device for swinging exit doors.
The Ohio board of building standards shall adopt, pursuant to division (A) of section 3781.10 of the Revised Code, a rule requiring that the swinging exit door for each unit in an apartment building or other multi-unit dwelling that is subject to the rules authorized by division (A) of such section be equipped with a deadbolt or equivalent security locking device complying with standards prescribed by the board. The rule shall be applied to all such apartment buildings and other multi-unit dwellings for which plans are approved pursuant to section 3791.04 of the Revised Code.

Effective Date: 09-05-1975.

This only applies to the swinging exit door from the lobby to the outside world.

There is nothing that pertains to individual apartment doors.

Personally, we use these even though we have deadbolts.

Good luck!

I too had this issue. My son is now 12, and his bolting has stopped. Hope your daughter's does too. The cheapest and easiest is a keyed chain

I have been waiting 7 weeks for mine, and I have about 2 left (I got the pre-assembled one). Here are the upgrades I am planning, based on joining the Slack channel, reading the Facebook group, etc. I recommend checking out those sites as well.

  1. Vibration Dampeners. These are needed because the printer is very noisy. I also have a rubber mat that I am going to put the printer on.

  2. An improved spool holder. Apparently the stock one breaks pretty easily and isn't that good. (Someone else in this thread even said theirs broke).

  3. Pinda height calculator. The number one question I see on the facebook page is around the PINDA sensor. This helps you adjust it and get it set straight.

I also have an enclosure for my kickstarter 3d printer, which is going to relocate to where my Replicator v1 is (which will go in a box) after my Prusa i3 mk2 arrives. I think an enclosure is a must have if you are printing ABS, otherwise you may have layer adhesion issues, especially if you have a drafty room (I do). If you are just printing PLA, PETG, or Flex you probably won't need one. There are a million different designs with Ikea Lack tables that people use. I had some spare 2x4's and plywood so I just built my own.

These are all fairly minor upgrades. Unlike most sub $500 printers, you don't need a lot of upgrades to make the printer usable and it really does well just out of the box.

i've tried a few things, including a fix that was suggested here. that fix worked a little too well for me—i live in a hot climate and when i used those pads, the shade got stuck, i could barely open it.

ultimately, i ended up using this stuff. i cut it to size and stick on the edge where the shade closes, like this (i stick one pad on each side). it's not perfect but it seems to work best for me.

u/HawaiianBrian · 2 pointsr/torgeternity

You'll need at least one d20 and one d6, though it can be helpful to have one for each player. You'll read the 6 face of the d6 as a 5+keep rolling.

I'd suggest playing it a few times and seeing if it becomes a regular thing for your table before buying a bunch of tokens or counters. You can get the same effect by just writing on the character sheet, or using Post-It Notes or some other homemade method for now.

Torg Eternity can definitely played Theater of the Mind but a lot of folks like to have something more visual. Just like any other RPG, you can use whatever works, like Lego minifigs, random game pieces, homemade tokens, etc. I have all the tokens because I get the Kickstarter box sets, but in the past I've made my own character tokens with online art, a 1" hole punch, and some of these.

I added rubber pads to the bottom of my PS4 and it vastly improved how hard the fan had to work to keep it cooled. Something like this.

u/mere_iguana · 2 pointsr/computers

ah, good good. Sorry if it seemed patronizing, I just never really know what anyone's knowledge/experience is with this stuff, if any. Seems like you know what you're doing though.

How are the rubber feet on the underside? if they've gon missing, that can cause the machine to sit too low on the surface, not allowing enough airflow underneath. Maybe adding some thicker feet like these sticky ones would help, or suggest a "extended battery" like this (not that specific one, just an example), those kinda prop up the back, allowing for better airflow when the cooling pad isn't around.

u/mellokind · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Well, it's a much easier problem to solve :). If your hinges were noisy, lube em. If you wanted to slow the door closing down, cabinet door hinges are made that have dampeners in them, but they are very expensive.

Just quieting down the closing of the door, piece o' cake. Just order online or go to any nearby hardware or craft or art store, and get some of these and stick them to the upper and lower corners of the door on the opposite side from the hinges.

u/caddis789 · 2 pointsr/DIY

1- I bet you can get away with some small rubber feet and no screws. That would keep it from sliding around. Once you got everything on the desk, I think you'd be fine. If you're more comfortable with more, then screws would be fine (don't forget to drill a pilot hole).

2- At 1 3/4" thick, I think you'll be fine without it.

3- See number 2

That piece is unfinished. You'll want to finish the wood with something. Natural Danish oil would be the easiest. But if you want more of a film on it, then I'd suggest polyurethane.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/DIY

No need to go crazy tapping plastic. Get something called a "Chicago screw" aka a "Sex bolt" (haha) aka a "binding screw".

u/goodmkb · 2 pointsr/hometheater

I think my bookshelf speakers are slightly larger than average, basic 2 way speakers with a 6.5 inch midrange. My subwoofers are pretty big and heavy.

For normal listening and movies it isn't bad. But if you play something with really heavy bass the vibrations become noticeable. I'm still conflicted about the setup myself but I am not unhappy.

I purchased some cork from home depot to try to reduce vibrations and it is okay but not great

I think the next step is possibly some type of Sorbothane. Apparently it is amazing for isolation BUT you need to do calculations based on the weight of your speakers to determine exactly how much you need to use.

http://www.amazon.com/Isolate-Sorbothane-Vibration-Isolation-Circular/dp/B0042U8P9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451966315&sr=8-1&keywords=isolate+it

Another alternative I am looking at is purchasing a set Isoaccoustics. They look like a gimmick but they got pretty good reviews, and they would also raise my bookshelfs to ear level.

Note that that is exposed Sorbothane (looks and feels like a gummy bear) and can stain a surface. Just put Saran Wrap under it or 3D print a little cup to set them in.

u/ayumusan · 2 pointsr/ar15

I would suggest Abus padlocks since they’re harder to defeat than most padlocks and if you’re flying one of these.

u/mr___ · 2 pointsr/electricians

Abus diskus

https://www.amazon.com/d/Keyed-Padlocks/ABUS-20-70-Stainless-Different/B009S5Y6ZS

Bolt cutters, ramset gun, hydraulic cutters, angle grinder, etc will get any lock off in seconds. At the same time, better locks are better; a good lock might hold for 2 minutes instead of literally 5 seconds

u/potkettleracism · 2 pointsr/lockpicking

If he didn't have much trouble with the Abus, maybe try one of these for the next one?

u/K9b1ack · 2 pointsr/videos

It really depends on your price range but I wouldn't go any cheaper than this

u/legendofthesamurai · 2 pointsr/lockpicking

I'll second the American 1100, but add the Abus 80ti/50 to that list -- good tolerance, six pins with a serrated, four spools, and a T-pin, and they're only ~$12. Officially they're green belt locks, but I think they hold their own against a number of the blue belt locks.

In addition to the Master 410 LOTO, you also might consider looking for a PacLock PL410-Pro (~$16), which is basically a 7-pin version with better tolerances. They're available online, but some Home Depots are starting to stock them.

Ace Hardware stores typically carry some decent 1.5" brass padlocks made for them by Brinks -- they're generally cheap and are loaded with spools. Sometimes you can even find an A527, which is a clone of the American Lock 700.

u/KillerPicking · 2 pointsr/lockpicking

In order from my progression:

Master 140

Brinks

Abus

American

Now it's a fairly large jump from brinks to abus so I recommend getting a few more brinks and masters first. Just get a different model with "higher" security every time until you think you are up for it.

I pulled these links off amazon for pictures and whatnot, I'm sure you can get a better deal anywhere so do some searching before you buy.

The foam I used was the first that came to mind when I made it but there's probably an alternative. I wanted something that would fill the center so it was more sturdy and that I could cut and shape. It also had to be light since I'm not all that strong.

The foam that I used isn't really all that bad. Just made sure you wear proper protection (mask, goggles, etc) and have a garage or outdoors to work in.

But if you're a bit concerned still, maybe try this? It's an expanding foam in an aerosol can. But you'd have to make sure you have a tarp out since it sticks to a lot. Once it sets, you can cut at it. I'd make a shield shaped casing and spray the foam into it if I were to use it (kinda like spraying it into a bowl... except shaped like the shield). I honestly don't have much experience with it but I've heard good things about it.

I'm not sure what else would work but I hope this helps! :)

Edited the post above so that you can see exactly what I was talking about.

Some of the other stuff I didn't mention will be listed below.

Tried this as my marking knife , rather than the narex at first. Didn't sharpen easily for me, so I got the Narex Marking Knife.

Needed a coping saw so I could start doing dovetails easier. This is the one I have chosen. Does the job well enough, nothing to write home about.

The Glu-bot Sure you could use a mustard bottle, but I'll be damned if this little thing wasn't a bit useful. Being able to squeeze glue in any direction is very useful. This is one of those 'you mock the crap out of it until you try it yourself' items. Remember 6 of these gives you 96 oz of glue, but is the same cost as a full gallon and the cost of the gluebot together.

For sharpening: use one of these. Yes, freehand sharpening is fairly easy and quick. But at first using training wheels is both easy and convenient. It gets you a sharp blade everytime because it takes that pesky human error out of the equation.

After I did a long bit of youtube videos and making my own projects, i ran into this book. It solidified my understanding of a lot of woodworking knowledge. I don't know if it is a beginner type resource, but it definitely helped me out.

A chair proped up against the entry door, the back wedged up, under the door handle will prevent anyone from entering the apartment. If the legs on the chair slide, put a rubber-backed bathroom rug under the chair. And it is not altering anything in the apartment (ie replacing or adding locks, installing alarms) that would possibly threaten the lease restrictions.

Or you can spend $13-$22 to buy a specific Door Jam that can be used on any door, anywhere you happen to be, as long as there's a door handle of some sort.

u/sighsorry · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I've come into this late and don't know if anyone's suggested these things yet, but just in case they haven't been I'll go ahead.

I'm glad to hear you've called the police and that they'll be patrolling your area more. In the meantime, you can buy a door brace to ensure your door stays shut while you're home, and pepper spray to keep by your bed. I would also recommend purchasing a pepper spray to keep on your key ring so that you have something on your when you are walking to and from your car.

You could also buy a taser gun, but I have no personal experience with them and could not vouch for them personally like I can for a door jam and pepper spray.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's really scary to not feel safe, especially in your home, which should be a source of comfort for you. Take steps to make yourself feel better protected, and continue to call the police if anything else occurs. Do NOT hesitate to call them. I hope this situation gets taken care of quickly for you.

Door Monkey - fits on standard (not beveled) door frames, installs in 1 second, and works fantastic as both a pinch guard and to prevent entry/exit. Its also nice on bedroom doors which have locks on them, as I'd get locked out of multiple rooms otherwise as my son knows how to activate those locks.

flip lock - for the front door, as my kid figured out how to move a chair to the front door and unlock it and get outside. Easy to install high up, looks nice, cheap, and is easy to work.

Baby fence - put this around the stuff you want to keep baby out of! Things such as entertainment centers and computer desks can be surrounded by this fence.

magnetic locks - for those drawers that you don't want any possible entry into, i.e. drawers with money. Very solid lock.

Latches - for things that can't be drilled into/that you don't want to drill into. You can lock the bottom drawer of the stove, the dishwasher, regular drawers, etc with this. Easy to install; I don't know how easy to remove.

  • Lock the doors (such a basic thing but so many skip)
  • deadbolt on the doors
  • back door with a huge window where you could reach the door locks if you broke or removed the window (apartment so can’t change) also has a metal door “lock” flap that stops the door from opening (I’ve been locked out once thanks to this)
  • always look out the window &/or peephole before opening the door even if no one is there just so you know you’re not walking into something or so someone doesn’t see you leave everyday for work at the same time.
  • close & lock windows unless I’m in the room. Never an opening out of my sight.
  • windows also have metal dowels so they can’t be opened without breaking
  • metal bar & added window lock in the patio sliding door
  • LIGHTS like timed porch lights, timed indoor lights that go on & off at different times every day (in my living room, I’ll be sleeping in the bedroom so living room can turn on & off, who cares?). I also have a solar light in a planter pointed at my front door because the landlords are slow to replace the porch light
  • thick curtains on all windows & in the bathroom those window stickers that obscure so no one sees inside unless I want them to
  • phone charged &/or pre-charged charger & working cable at all times. Also my Apple Watch on me.
  • a baseball bat & super bright strobing flashlight next to my bed. Honestly the flashlight would do more damage & disorientation than the bat but the bat helped me sleep when I first lived alone 7 years ago
  • praying. Helps me 90% of the time.

I also own one of those alarm door stops but haven’t used it yet.

thats a good idea, but tbh those drawers are about 75 bucks each and gets too expensive for me, i think im gonna go for this table - its a crappy plastic table, but it is height adjustable and its 48"x23" which i think is the ideal size for me - i think if i put a table cloth or bedsheet over it, and maybe some desk leg pads like these if it's not stable enough.

think that's a good idea?

u/ZeosPantera · 1 pointr/hometheater

I use these things. http://www.amazon.com/Waxman-4719095N-1-Inch-Self-Stick-Oatmeal/dp/B001WAK5X4 and they work great. BUT my stands are clamp stands and these won't help make anything stick.

u/stop_drop_rofl · 1 pointr/PS4

I bought some felt pads for some chairs in my house. With some left over, I put four of them under my ps4. It seems makes the console quieter and gives more airflow around it to keep it cool.

The console really shouldn't overheat if there's enough room for it to breath. Don't put it inside of a closed off cabinet.

u/DarkDubzs · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

All you would need is felt applied under whatever you don't want to scratch.
Felt rounds are widely available and cheap. Maybe you want felt tape/strip for longer applications like a dresser or something, you just cut it to length. Or you need a custom size or shape, you just get felt pads and cut it up.

u/WillsMyth · 1 pointr/StonerEngineering

A much cleaner solution is the little round clear dots you can buy to stick on doors to make them not slam. They're like a $1 and would look great.

Most UTH's will come with little rubber feet that you can put on the bottom of your tank to raise it up from the surface. You should use them to let air flow get in around the UTH. If your thermostat doesn't come with them, you should be able to find them online. They're pretty cheap

I guess use something like this. Maybe mess around with the vertical height a bit beforehand to see what works nice. Oh and perhaps a dome shape is better as a flat shape won't work as well on an angle. I just realized that.

u/Enyawreklaw · 1 pointr/audiophile

Do you recommend an entire pad, or just using something like these just for the corners? Now I'm thinking about wallmounts where the speaker is sitting on a plane and using the sorbothane discs in the corners.

u/IOnceLurketNowIPost · 1 pointr/3Dprinting

Is it in high power mode? Also, what is your MK3 sitting on? I've noticed that hollow topped desks (like lack tables) seem to resonate and make the printer even louder. I put some sorbothane feet under my MK2, and that really made a difference. If you also put a heavy piece of stone under the MK3, that should help too. Doing both would probably help even more.

The other thing I did to reduce the sound of my printer was to replace all of the linear bearings with Igus style bearings. Those bearings are drop-in, so it was pretty easy to switch. They have made a huge difference. I used to be able to hear my printer from my bedroom, now all I can hear is the fan (time for a noctua).

Edit: spelling

u/hadtoomuchtodream · 1 pointr/longbeach

Did the thief actually break the window glass? There's stuff you can get called security film to protect glass windows.

One thing I do is use a bar of some sort that makes it so my windows can't open, like this.

My heart really goes out to you, and I know how violated something like this can make you feel. I highly recommend speaking with a counselor or therapist. Also see if any friends would be willing to stay with you at your apartment to help you feel safe and get some sleep.

u/factoid_ · 1 pointr/videos

Masterlocks are shit if you want to actually secure something. Want to make something mildly inconvenient to open? Use a masterlock. That's what I put on my fence gate so the kids don't open it and let the dogs out. I'm not concerned about security because ffs it's a 4 foot fence, anyone can just climb over it.

But my storage unit that has a lot of valuable shit in it? It has one of these

u/abqnm666 · 1 pointr/videos

Yeah it should be easy to find the owners manual online, in case they don't include it, since it can vary by vehicle what relay(s) you need to pull. Practice and test first, in daylight, before getting to the hotel so you can do it in the dark, without taking too long or too obviously

That, good locks, and the vibration alarm should make it fairly troublesome (and obvious) to steal or force, so the majority of thieves will look for a better target if they can't get in the back and it won't start.

To elaborate on the locks, since I only specified the model, there's two versions, an older one with a traditional key (that takes a good amount of skill to pick) and a newer one with what they call the "Abus Plus" disk cylinder, which is going to take some grand master level of skill to pick, that's about $5 more than the normal key. Here is the one with the wizard level picking skill needed to open, on Amazon. No referral link, I'm just using Amazon since it's easy. There's some other sizes like the larger 20/80. Look for the black cover over the keyway, not blue, to get the better lock cylinder and key. Keyed differently are cheaper, so if you're just needing one lock for the back, then get that. If you want them keyed the same, find the keyed the same version, and when you order more than 1, they'll be a matched key so you don't need a key for each lock. They're 60k key combos, so it's going to be very unlikely you'd find someone else with a matching key.

u/fuckface_academy · 1 pointr/videos

Buy a pelican case. Just put up the damn $50 for a case large enough for your gun and a couple other items, and then get high quality lock (NOT MASTER LOCK) like an Abus Titalium (virtually unpickable).

It makes flying with a gun so much better. You only need the one lock on the smaller Pelicans.

Factory gun cases are garbage, a Pelican with a dessicant packet in it will keep your gun totally sealed from the elements.

If you felt pretty comfortable with that Orange Belt Abus, maybe you should try a $12 green belt: Abus Titalium 80Ti. I have a couple of these and they are enjoyable picks.

Kinda depends on your goals though. I feel like I've been recommending this way too much lately, but a Sparrows Revolver would probably be an incredible training lock right now for getting incrementally better at security pins. If you master the Revolver with a difficult pin load out, it would be easy to graduate to the blue American 1100s.

I actually use Yale locks(https://amzn.com/B00HS1O77G). If you use the one with a key(https://amzn.com/B005NLKRAO), They are re-keyable to match either Schlage or Kwikset locks to match the rest of the house. Also, you can add either Z-Wave or ZigBee, also to better fit the rest of your house. The Geo-fencing is a feature that comes with the Vera Plus and its app.(https://amzn.com/B01BX9P89Y)

The cosmetic parts of my keezer are pretty much glued on, so drilling anything into it was a no go. My drip tray sits on a glued on piece of trim that is about halfway up (it wraps around the whole thing). I just used those damage free picture hangers to keep it attached.

I would trust just about any amount of weight I can fit on it honestly (e.g. multiple full growlers). Each strip holds up to 16 lbs apparently, I use 4 of them. It also sits on the "crossbar" trim.

It also has a huge plus because it is very easy to take the whole thing off to wash. Only cosmetic downside is you can see thing picture hangers slightly if you look at it from an angle.

You might be able to use command strips: https://www.amazon.com/Command-Picture-Decorate-Damage-Free-PH206-14NA/dp/B073XR4X72

These work well for hanging pictures and will bond very well to a clean tile surface. Supposedly 4 strips holds 16lbs but I would test that first. Probably adding more strips will hold more weight as well.

Both holes are used in industrial lockout devices to lockout the plug. Here are some on Amazon: One Two. The spec says that the holes are optional but if you do manufacture them then you must locate them as specified. Those plug lockouts I listed will not work right if the plug doesn't have holes in the prongs.

u/dizorkmage · 0 pointsr/PS4

Wow, sounds like you need to move them to someplace less confined/dusty, I know I had my PS4 inside my TV cabinet and it gave me no end of problems, fan chugged loud due to heat and the dust in there clogged the vents and the Playstation controller would slightly lag out sometimes because it was so close to the router and the signals interfered with each other.

I moved my PS4 out of the cabinet and also cleaned the dust real good, I placed furniture pads on the bottom which helped immensely with heat and now the fans mostly silent, the DVD drive whines loud during certain games but it's not unbearable.

Now that my router and PS4 are about 4 feet apart the controls are tight as hell, hope this helps someone.

u/shotguneconomics · 0 pointsr/guns

Get some 3M window film. like this. It makes it much harder for windows to be broken and accessible. Think of a car's windshield, and how it spiderwebs, but stays together.

u/CryptoMaximalist · 0 pointsr/videos

Not all entryways have windows, such as apartment buildings. Windows and doorwalls can also have security film to hold together like windshields https://www.amazon.com/Security-Window-Film-Wide-Roll/dp/B004LDBPY2 You could also of course install bars over the window or door if needed

Lastly, there are glass break alarms via sensors on the glass or sonic sensors which detect the sound. These are a solid deterrent
