I'm actually doing keto as a vegan, so I might be able to help you out some!

  • For butter, I really like either Miyoko's Cultured Butter (you can find it at Trader Joe's if you live on the West Coast) or Earth Balance, which is more readily available at major supermarket chains. I'll also use avocado or olive oil for cooking.

  • For milk, I use either Tempt Hemp Milk or, if I want a little extra protein boost, Ripple, which is made with pea protein. I buy the unsweetened original variety for both; Tempt has 1g net carb per 8 oz, Ripple has 0g net. I find the Tempt at markets like Whole Foods -- I buy my Ripple at Target.

  • I use dairy-free cheeses very sparingly because they are higher in carbs than I'd like, but I've found that Chao (available at WF/some major supermarkets) is kinda the best bet.

  • I eat mayo with most of my meals, usually either Vegenaise (I like the Pesto and Chipotle flavors) or Just Mayo. Vegenaise is another WF kinda find, but Just Mayo is really widely available (even Walmart sells it!). There's also dressings available from the same company that makes Just Mayo -- the Ranch and Caesar are both really tasty.

  • Shelled hemp seeds are fantastic, too -- one 3 tbsp serving has 170 cal - 13g fat - 0g net carbs - 10g protein. I usually mix them in with whatever I'm eating since they have a pretty neutral flavor.

Following the recipe above, without any toppings, each serving costs me about $1.45 - which for a lunch I do not think is bad at all. With two tablespoons of Peanut Butter as a topping, which is what I have been doing, it ups the cost to about $1.75 a meal. - but yes 75% of that cost is the hemp seeds

  • $0.10 in coconut milk (for 1/3 a cup of coconut milk)
  • $1.12 in hemp hearts (1/4 a cup of hemp hearts)
  • $0.04 in chia seeds (1/2 tablespoon of chia seeds)

  • $0.07 in Vanilla (1/4 teaspoon of vanilla)

I use a variety. I have some unflavored soy protein isolate in bulk that I add a tablespoon to my morning smoothie.

Kraut juice would totally be good for electrolytes, it's basically all salt water with minerals. I'm thinking I might try making a batch myself, it doesn't look tough at all.

Yes hemp hearts! They are no net carb, high protein and this delish nutty flavor. I dump 3Tsp (a serving) on my salads. Just as good or better then nuts. Or sometimes just a little handful on my way out the door.

(Yep, I'm good on Vit D. My doc tests it for fertility reasons and I've supplemented for years. It does make a difference for sure)

Ooh! I love this game!

PB2 is my jam! I like the chocolate version, but there is a plain peanut butter version too. I love adding it to protein powders that are a little bland.

I buy my chia seeds in bulk.

Hemp hearts are a great source of complete protein.

This chia, flax cocoa mix is really good with chocolate protein powder.. and chocolate pb2... and on yogurt... etc. Love this stuff. Cheaper in bulk. They used to make a berry version too but I can't find it.

This is the kind of supergreens I use, but there are a variety of flavors so I linked you to the search. I just do the original to keep it neutral.

I eat these things all the time lol, generally after a workout shake and any time I need a snack. It's probably one of the easiest ways to get protein with low carbs and all the other benefits like the Omegas, etc. Only 3 tablespoons per serving, and I just eat them by the spoonful.

Then you’re only really paying about a dollar for 270 calories.

If you buy a 18oz bottle of olive oil for $7, then for every dollar you get around 550 calories (110calories/tbsp).

So in other words it’s twice as expensive as olive oil, but you get a bunch of protein too.

Well, it totally depends on why you're replacing whey and what your protein requirements are. Whey has a lot more protein than hemp, pound for pound, but that's because hemp also has tons of good fats in it (with omega 3/6/9). This one is good if you're feeling adventurous again. However, it's not powder, so you'll have to blend it. But this is just the pure stuff, no fillers, no flavoring etc. Add this with some frozen fruit and chia seeds/flax seeds in a blender and you got yourself a delicious smoothie.

Change your fridge and pantry first.

Switch to vegan mayonnaise.

Get Almond/Oat/Coconut milk. Now you can have vegan cereal etc.

Check the ingredients on your bread...

Have a go-to meal if you only have 5 minutes. Like a sliced tofurkey sandwich...

1 addition to your pantry should be hemp seeds. I get these on Amazon on subscription for $11.51/pound. Add to oatmeal/cereal/anything...

I would have to agree with you, I just finished off the tub I bought a while ago and I'm not going to buy another. I am planing on just making a mix at home and I've found the Hemp here and I'm just going to grab some coco powder and other things at a local shop.

I just use the seed in yogurts and smoothies. I've never tried the powders (and from what I read, I probably don't want to based on taste).

I use the Manitoba brand. I'm sure you could shop around on Amazon for others. You want them shelled or "hemp hearts". Otherwise you've got to shell them yourself.
