There seems to be an argument over whether snakes chase humans in this thread, this is misinformation and here's the proof.

The truth is many people don't know much about snakes, so like all things we don't understand -- they're scary. This is just a side effect of ignorance. A vast majority of the population aren't herpetologist so anytime you defend a snake you will be drowned out by the majority around you. Majority rule isn't indicative that something is right. In your fight or flight response, you're likely to mistake a display of self-defense as being chased by a snake, but you've made an oversight.

The media, through its own ignorance, also vilifies these animals. Most of the time they can't even identify the snake properly but they still run the story. The latest viral picture is this guy standing 8 feet back to make this snake look like the prehistoric Titanoboa. Don't get me wrong, it's a big snake, but in reality, it's just a forced perspective trick used to fear monger. Here's a great example of how using camera tricks can make a small snake look HUGE. It's disgusting. Can anyone here even identify the snake in the viral picture?

As long as a person or media outlet gets their 15 minutes of adulation they don't care what the social repercussions are. If a person is poking a rattlesnake with a stick and he gets bit the news story is, "snake attacks man" but that is foul. If I'm minding my business and you start hitting me or step on me, and I clean your clock, I didn't attack you, I defended myself. That's how our legal system works too, you'd be at fault -- not me.

As a human, you stomp all fee-fi-fo-fum into the snakes' safe place and the snake is just as, if not more startled than you are. The snake is ~ 4inches off the ground, it's almost like you've come out of the 4th dimension. Watch this explanation by Carl Sagan of the 4th dimension and see if that makes sense.

You could literally step on its head and kill it. Snakes defend their territory or slither away if they think they're outmatched. The same way you'd defend your home or coward in the corner if you brought a knife to a gun fight. When you're 4 inches tall, and you see a 3x2 foot gap between a humans legs, that's a wide enough margin to escape. It's not chasing you, it's trying to get away from you! Remember: the perspective of being 4 inches tall.

Almost all snakes are ambush predators, they sit and wait for prey to walk by...days, weeks, even months at a time. That's not to say they will not hunt for food, but they are built for surprise! From camouflage scales to burrying themselves in the dirt, even a wicked cool technique called caudal luring where they use the tip of their tail as a form of mimicry to lure a prey item! Super cool video.

A large amount of people cannot identify the snakes in their back yard let alone one they may encounter randomly. Pupil shape, head shape, even rhymes like "red on black," are all false somewhere in the world. Which one of these snakes will kill you? Left? Right? Both? None? What are their names? (Side note in case any snake nerds are in here, the snake on the left is mine. Handsome fella, eh?)

Ignorance isn't anything to be ashamed of. We are all ignorant toward everything until we are taught. I don't know much about a lot of things, but this is one of the things I'm passionate about.

Humans, in general, take the term ignorant as a disrespect rather than an opportunity to learn. Ignorance is an opportunity, not a flaw. Often we are only willing to admit ignorance once we've triumphed over it.

If you're generally interested in police corruption in 20th century America, you may want to pick up The Big Con. It's an unusual book --- the author was a professor of linguistics who began studying criminal slang, got to know a bunch of con men, and wrote up a book explaining how these huge operations worked in the late 19th/early 20th century. These con schemes were quite elaborate, with a whole cast of players who helped fool the mark, and often a required a permanent home to function. That meant you needed a "fixer" to bribe the cops and ensure the game didn't get busted. Obviously the book is mostly about the con itself, but the discussion of the fix and how con men found places to operate touches on your interest. (Smaller towns and cities were much easier to fix than a huge place like NYC.)

u/oaddsandk · 33 pointsr/news

How do you quantify the media's and left's needs? Clearly they desire bigotry as seen by the Covington boys as one journalist could have watched the entire two hour video and completely debunked the original narrative. These two incidents are not isolated either.

This movie is.....bananas. It starts out safe enough with a lot of really interesting concepts and conspiracies but by the second movie we are talking lizard people. This movie has a lot of opinion presented as fact. If you are a conspiracy enthusiast mainly for the entertainment of it all, then this movie is pretty fun in a tin foil hat kind of way. If you are gullible or looking for real answers GO ELSEWHERE because this movie will send you down a lizard people/psychic vampire/4th dimension alien rabbit hole.

EDIT - If you are into these type of government/illuminati conspiracies, I suggest looking up Michael Ruppert or his book Crossing The Rubicon https://www.amazon.com/Crossing-Rubicon-Decline-American-Empire/dp/0865715408 The man became increasingly unhinged as he aged but he was a good investigative reporter.

u/rhinny · 17 pointsr/books

Lighter non-fiction that I have recently loved:

Jon Ronson: Them. Spending time with conspiracy nuts, but quick and self-conscious investigative journalism. It's fun and interesting.

Erik Larson: Devil in the White City. At the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, a serial killer sets up a building to attract and in which to murder stray people who wouldn't be missed. This book reads like a bestseller mass-market paperback murder mystery, but it's based in truth (albeit with some literary embellishments.)

Benjamin Wallace: The Billionaire's Vinegar. Tremendously expensive wine and international wine-sales fraud. Super-rich people are ridiculous.

u/breadprincess · 13 pointsr/blogsnark

Oooh that sounds like something I would be VERY INTO. Is it this one?

u/d00ley · 8 pointsr/reddit.com

Check out this book then. Well documented, no unfounded assumptions, and the author claimed that the truth wouldn't come out once the "Truth Movement" began declaring demolition as a "fact". He never claimed that they weren't (I have no idea what his opinion was on that), however, he felt that if it could not be documented and conclusively proven, it was not worth mentioning.

u/incubenito · 7 pointsr/AskReddit

I don't believe that he acted alone and I believe there's a chance he was a 'patsy' as he claimed.

In any case, there are a lot of people who feel strongly that he did and that he didn't, and there is a lot of evidence on both sides.

A few things I believe:

  • If he acted alone, the Warren Commission findings are still bullshit.

  • Crossfire, by Jim Marrs is a pretty good book.

  • Oliver Stone's JFK is a good and entertaining film. It certainly takes several creative liberties, but I still think it does a good job of capturing the essence of the case for conspiracy.

I won't pretend to be a devout JFK scholar, but my father spent YEARS researching it, including speaking to a lot of the authors and scholars on the subject...maybe that's material for an IAmA? I'll let y'all be the judge of that.

This is nothing. Wait until the story of "Jo-Lo" (I think that's his name) gets made into a movie. Over 5 billion swindled from foreign governments with the help of Goldman. He's also the guy that funded our beloved "Wolf of Wall Street" movie when Hollywood refused. Listened to one of the authors on a Rich Dad podcast and just......holy shit. Dude makes Jordan Belfort look like a kindergartner.

There's a really good weekly show called The HighWire with Del Bigtree that is presented by one of the producers of Vaxxed. It is quite well produced and I can't think of a better way to get familiarized with the anti-vaccination side than to watch some of the shows.

For example:

It's also important to realize that the reason so many people - especially parents - have come to question the safety of vaccines is because they have seen first hand one of their children get injured after receiving a vaccine. Most of them will freely admit that until that point, they had no reason to question things and were quite happily following the CDC vaccine schedule. So to understand why this is such a large movement, it's really useful to read or watch some of the testimonials of these parents.

Good work.

If there is anyone out there who has already done their fair share of research, i cannot recommend this book enough: Crossing the Rubicon. It's intense, and you're a better man than i am if you can take it all in on the first read, but it is without a doubt a must-read if you really want to understand this thing properly.

There is stuff in there that needs to be read by a lot of people, as it seems to me like people who think they have this whole thing figured out really haven't put the time in, especially the "it was the Israelis" crowd. This is a proper investigation: there is very little conjecture in the book, and everything is sourced.

u/lamentedly · 6 pointsr/betterCallSaul

I don't think you're understanding this. Madoff didn't tell people it was a pyramid scheme. Jimmy either told his marks that they were scamming other people (the watch) or let them try to scam him (the coin, and the watch).

This is a great book about the classic cons. Or you can just watch the movie The Sting, which is built upon the same concept. Classic cons work because the victim thinks he's getting over. No one thought they were getting over on Madoff, they thought they were paying for a service.

That's just the official story. The establishment pulled out all the stops to discredit the victims, and the movement to discredit was led by child pornographers, the Eberles. Oliver Stone's cover up movie was based on the Eberles' book https://www.amazon.com/Abuse-Innocence-McMartin-Preschool-Trial/dp/1591021650

Note how James Woods starred in the movie, and note that Woods is the son of a high level intel officer, and Woods also dubiously claimed to be on a plane with the 9/11 hijackers just days before 9/11, strengthening the official narrative.

Huge cover-up.

Two books I can recommend.

Vice: Dick Cheney and the Hijacking of the American Presidency

and

The One percent Doctrine

I'd also recommend

Crossing the Rubicon

but the author Michael Ruppert is widely denigrated as a kook. I'm not in that camp, but read it with an open mind, there's plenty on Cheney's evil--even outside of his 9/11 allegations.

u/misterdix · 4 pointsr/todayilearned

What's actually heartbreaking is the fact that 2,996 people were murdered and less than $15 million was spent on the investigation. And that was after years of fighting to raise the budget from Bush's initial $3 million. Wtf, right?!

Challenger crash investigation, $50-$75 million.

Monica Lewinsky blow job, $40-$80 million.

Hell as tax payers we chipped in $40 million for trump to renovate an old D.C. post office into a fucking hotel. Hell Glitter cost $22 million!!

Do you see the pattern here? That's only four examples of how our country spends money both on legit investigations and total bullshit. Bloated, wasteful spending, all the time. Why would they fight so hard to NOT solve the most powerful country in the history of the world's largest mass murder? Wtf, yes, no?

Nothing Marion Cotillard said about 9/11 was factually incorrect, they're only a handful of the hundreds of basic questions everyone w/ a modicum of intelligence should find themselves compelled to ask about the murders of September 11th, 2001.

So read The Kean commission Report and then read Michael Rupert's Crossing the Rubicon and truly see if you still feel comfortable calling a beautiful, talented, progressive thinking Oscar winner… "Thick."

Your perception is a ton of different things welded together with a hardwired steady belief in "THIS IS TRUE".

This is how people black out, misremember events when questioned by an attorney, and fall for convincing lies and believe them to their dying day, even if intelligent.

SS: The late, great author of Crossing the Rubicon talks about limits to growth forces on current human civilisation era.

u/axolotl_peyotl · 3 pointsr/conspiracy

>Some writers such as Noel Twyman, David Lifton, Jack White, John Costella and David Mantik have claimed that the Zapruder Film has been tampered with. They have pointed out that the film conflicts with the large number of witnesses who claimed that the limousine stopped after the first shot had been fired. This included the two people standing closest to the limousine, Jean Hill and Mary Moorman, and the four police motorcyclist nearest Kennedy's car.

>Detailed analysis of the film has revealed that the limousine displays a variety of irregular movements, including travelling only ten feet within 21 frames between Z-197 and Z-218 (this is only about one half of the expected distance).

>Noel Twyman carried out detailed research into the actions of William Greer in the Zapruder film. He discovered that Greer's rapid head turns between Z302 to Z-304 and Z-315 to Z-317 appeared impossibly fast. Experiments were carried out with athletic subjects repeating Greer's actions. These showed that no one was able to reproduce this angular speed. Twyman concluded that frames of the film had been removed therefore speeding up the actions of Greer.

Also:

>We can now accept without caveat that the Zapruder movie was altered and done so by the Central Intelligence Agency attempting to maintain the fantasy of a 3 round murder for the Warren Commission which was yet to be announced.

>More specifically, the CIA and Secret Service collaborated in developing 2 sets of film – one which was developed in Dallas the afternoon or evening of 11/22/1963, and a separate film which was developed at Kodak’s CIA Hawkeyeworks in Rochester, NY, the home of Kodak’s corporate headquarters.

And finally:

>The relatively new chain of custody evidence presented here will not only prove that the camera original Zapruder film was in the custody of the CIA and Secret Service — not LIFE magazine — from late Saturday evening through Monday morning that weekend, but is of such a provocative nature that it strongly suggests — indeed, virtually proves — the original film was altered that weekend, prior to the publication of any of the film's frames in LIFE magazine, and prior to its use by the Warren Commission.

There's also this book which I haven't read, but I've heard that it's legit: The Great Zapruder Film Hoax: Deceit and Deception in the Death of JFK

Hope that helps get you started :)

It's easy to draw parallels between any 2 things, but the volume of similarities here goes beyond that. I reread Bad Blood recently and didn't see nearly this much overlap. The main takeaway is that both Enron and Tesla started out with good intentions but their arrogance wouldn't allow them to admit when things needed to change.

Where it all began: The Big Con: The Story of the Confidence Man by David Maurer

In the 1930s a University of Louisville professor interviewed many veterans of the great confidence games from the first generation of the 20th century. He published his observations in 1940, and his book became an immediate underground classic. It was especially influential in Hollywood, where writers mined it for years as source material -- most notoriously screenwriter David Ward appropriated huge chunks of the book for The Sting (Maurer sued and won a $300K settlement). But The Big Con had already been reworked for years, especially in the TV shows of Roy Huggins (Maverick, Alias Smith and Jones).

No, you would actually find anomaly after anomaly that go against the official story. Youtube videos are not the main source of information, they are just summaries to use as launching points. Just as mainstream news is not, and should not be, a main source. To really research something, to build a base of unbiased facts, and to actually learn things, you must go through the act of "discovery", personally subjecting yourself to all evidence available and forming your own opinions.

As more detailed starting points than simple "Youtube videos", I recommend:

There are several amazing documentaries about Lance: The Armstrong Lie, Stop at Nothing. Also, there's a book called Wheelmen.

TL;DR- Lance doped his whole career, he did non-drug methods (blood doping) as well as drugs (EPO, HGH).

Also, Game of Shadows highlights BALCO and the whole doping scandal that brought down Bonds, Marion Jones, A-Rod, and several others.

All this being said, yes, pretty much everyone is doping to some degree. However, people still discredit the athlete.

Just because you take steroids doesn't mean you will be come Barry, Lance, Usain, or any other athlete.

Remember, in Lance's case, everyone was doping but he was still at the top. Even on PED's, you have to bust your ass to be the elite of the elite.

I still like Lance and don't look down on him for his accomplishments; He did tremendous things with Livestrong back in the day--same with Bonds/etc etc.

TL;DR - you can take steroids, but it's not going to do shit if you don't put in the work to be elite

I don't claim to know one way or another, I don't believe anything, but I do find the official story bordering on ridiculous. Just a for instance, 19 Saudis pull off major attack, so we invade Afghanistan and Iraq? I understand the Afghani one to an extent since that is where Osama "was." But every reason for the Iraqi invasion has turned out to be full of shit. So why did we do nothing about Saudi involvement?

If you want a book that will at least make you think about the entirety of the global situation at the time more critically you can try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Crossing-Rubicon-Decline-American-Empire/dp/0865715408 . His claims about peak oil and what not aren't bulletproof but his argument and evidence about 9/11 paints a pretty interesting picture. Again, I'm not a full blooded truther, but I'm not a blind patriot either.

i read an interesting book once called the big con which describes con artists in the beginning of the 20th century. one thing i found fascinating was how they had something like a code of honor, where they only conned people who agreed to help thim gain money by dishonest means. they didn't really prey on the weak or innocent.

Interesting. Although I initially thought WTC 1 & 2 were controlled demo (back when Loose Change was cool), for awhile I've been more skeptical of it.

I still think it's possible it was at least allowed to happen, given what we do know for a fact.

Recently read Crossing the Rubicon: The Decline of the American Empire at the End of the Age of Oil after Ruppert was a guest on the Joe Rogan podcast... and although I don't really follow all his talk about PROMIS, all the drills and exercises that were happening leading up to the event & as it was happening is pretty interesting.

But it's highly unlikely we'll ever settle this. Any new investigation will be attacked regardless of its result. If it comes to a inside job conclusion, it'll be dismissed as a bunch of kooks, if it doesn't, it'll be attacked for being a whitewash.

I really don't see how anything new happening can settle the argument for both sides, so I don't really spend alot of time thinking about it.

Fake hate crimes happen. Accept it. Even the ADL themselves say these are just 'reported' to them -- not investigated, not confirmed, not anything.

It's all there. Granted some of the updates of the initial report have been bumped off of the page, and the top of the page has an editorial by a native american (who knew Mike) that might be what you're talking about that reads like a "crazed rant."

In that respect, I would recommend reading from the bottom of the content (not the comments) and work your way up. You'll see his suicide note and most of the updates that have been made by Wes (his lawyer, business partner, and friend), and Jenna Orkin who has been working by Mokes side for years.

Also, I'm not sure what you are looking to "prove." I've followed this guys career for years so, for what it's worth, this news didn't surprise me. He committed suicide and he did so with the direct intention of making sure there was no controversy surrounding it. He did this BECAUSE he knew that his work in life was more important than people debating about his death.

So, I would recommend reading this page, get the closure you need, and go watch The Truth and Lies of 9/11 read Crossing the Rubicon.

If you want your mind blown, read Vaccine Epidemic. Great book with a bunch of detailed medical cases of vaccine injury. It's an eye opener for people who incorrectly presume vaccines are all harmless.

u/Icanweld · 1 pointr/news

Well, here are some government assurances about vaccines from the CDC.

>>A Polio-Free U.S. Thanks to Vaccine Efforts: Thanks to effective vaccine, the United States has been polio-free since 1979. But poliovirus is still a threat in some countries. Be part of the success story and get your child vaccinated on schedule. http://www.cdc.gov/features/poliofacts/

With a cute picture of a lady getting her baby vaccinated. Exactly like what we saw out of Flint. http://i.imgur.com/EV1tC9j.png

All of that was taken from the CDC's website, yet from a different page of their website...

Currently the only cause of Polio cases in American since 1979 was OPV, the Oral Polio Vaccine. The last cases of naturally occurring paralytic polio in the United States were in 1979. From 1980 through 1999, there were 154 cases of paralytic polio that were vaccine-associated paralytic polio (VAPP) caused by live oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV). In 2009, an immunoncompromised adult developed vaccine-associated paralytic polio (VAPP) and died of polio-associated complications. Vaccine-derived poliovirus was isolated, and the infection likely occurred where her child received OPV 12 years prior. source: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/polio/dis-faqs.htm

So..which is it CDC? They're hiding their own numbers and flat lying to people and if those people don't just trust them then they're stupid? Not only have we not been polio free for 30 years, the cause of those cases of polio were the Vaccine! But they won't put that little fact next to the picture of the lady with her baby...

>There's a slight difference between distrusting just the local government, and distrusting the entire scientific community, though, isn't there?

Not really. The "entire scientific community" has lost just as much trust as the government. Scientists have proven again and again that their science is for sale and that they're as corruptible as anyone else. And there is plenty of fearmongering material, don't pretend that it's only "stupid people listening to Jenny McCarthy". Just look at all the best selling books about it

Science for Sale: How the US Government Uses Powerful Corporations and Leading Universities to Support Government Policies, Silence Top Scientists, Jeopardize Our Health, and Protect Corporate Profits

>The government hires scientists to support its policies; industry hires them to support its business; and universities hire them to bring in grants that are handed out to support government policies and industry practices. Organizations dealing with scientific integrity are designed only to weed out those who commit fraud behind the backs of the institutions where they work. The greatest threat of all is the purposeful corruption of the scientific enterprise by the institutions themselves. The science they create is often only an illusion, designed to deceive; and the scientists they destroy to protect that illusion are often our best.

Evidence of Harm: Mercury in Vaccines and the Autism Epidemic: A Medical Controversy

>In the 1990s reported autism cases among American children began spiking, from about 1 in 10,000 in 1987 to a shocking 1 in 166 today. This trend coincided with the addition of several new shots to the nation's already crowded vaccination schedule, grouped together and given soon after birth or in the early months of infancy. Most of these shots contained a little-known preservative called thimerosal, which includes a quantity of the toxin mercury.

Vaccine Epidemic: How Corporate Greed, Biased Science, and Coercive Government Threaten Our Human Rights, Our Health, and Our Children

>Habakus, Holland, and Rosenberg edit and introduce a diverse array of interrelated topics concerning the explosive vaccine controversy, including the ethics of vaccination mandates, corrupting conflicts of interest in the national vaccine program, and personal narratives of parents, children, and soldiers who have suffered vaccine injury.

>Newly updated with additional chapters focusing on institutional scientific misconduct, mandates for healthcare workers, concerns about HPV vaccine development, and the story behind the Supreme Court’s recent vaccine decision, Vaccine Epidemic remains the essential handbook for the vaccination choice movement and required reading for all people contemplating vaccination for themselves and their children.

I agree, that it sounds more like covet, but the word covert makes much more sense in the context of the rest of this speech.

> It requires a change in outlook, a change in tactics, a change in missions--by the government, by the people, by every businessman or labor leader, and by every newspaper. For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

Like the speech "The President and the Press", Executive Order 11110 is usually distorted and important information is missing. Add to this the fact, that one member of the Warren Commission was John J. McCloy, who had also served as the head of the world bank and you get the impression that powerful bankers were the masterminds behind JFK's assassination. Jim Marrs and his prominent book Crossfire is partly to blame. Jim Marrs's interpretation of Executive Order 11110 has been picked up by many other conspiracy researchers and documentaries like Zeitgeist.

Here are two sources which expose the mythical nature of his interpretation. Both sources cannot be qualified as banker-friendly. G. Edward Griffin wrote the classic The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve. He wrote about this misinterpretation here - THE JFK MYTH
Was he assassinated because he opposed the Fed?

Michael Collins Piper wrote an article called Hard Facts Refute
`JFK Greenback' Myth
for American Free Press.

Yup. Read the book Skyjack. The author very comprehensively explores every major and somewhat credible theory as to who D.B. Cooper was, and while the author himself doesn't eventually conclude anything, in my mind this theory was the most plausible and did not have any major discrepancies like all of the others.

Your assertion that the Taliban encouraged the growth of opium poppies is false. The Taliban banned opium production and burned the fields the year before the US invaded, because the US is the primary organization behind heroin trafficking to the US and the world.
