$0.84 per stamp. Am I totally out of touch or is that how much a stamp costs now?

The stamp is Scott's # 1759 and is called a misperf. Here's a listing for a pair (search for 1759) for $50, so a partial sheet appears to be quite valuable. Congratulations!

>I'm also worried that I will ruin the sheet through mishandling and wondered, if it is valuable, what kind of protective sleeves I should purchase for it. Thanks in advance!

Don't touch it with your fingers. Use stamp tongs or gloves to protect it from skin oils and fingerprints. Try the Lighthouse Vario 1S sheets and see if they're the right size.

If you want to sell it, try talking to the one of the auction houses listed at http://stampauctionnetwork.com/dir/aucdir.cfm They can help you get the best price for it.

May I suggest a different route than a traditional stamp album. Consider Lighthouse VARIO pages. Here's a link to the 8 slots pages on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/25-Lighthouse-VARIO-8S-pages/dp/B005FN41HU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1409533455&sr=8-5&keywords=lighthouse+pages. They come in different sizes as well.

You can also create and print you're own pages like I do. But if you do, make sure you use acid free paper. And for valuable stamps you'll want to use something like Scott's mounts. Example here http://www.amazon.com/Scott-Prinz-25X41-Mounts-SCOTT/dp/B00BV8HK26/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1409534156&sr=8-7&keywords=Scotts+mounts.

There's no right or wrong way to go about starting a collection.

First things first, you've gotta figure out what kind of stamp you want to collect. If you decide to just collect anything and everything, things can get unwieldy very quickly, so I recommend finding a niche sooner or later. One of the easiest to get into (if you're in the States, anyway) is United States stamps. You already have a fairly decent spread in the pictures you provided, so I'd recommend going that route.

Next, you'll need some way to display your stamps. The album you have should work for the time being, but if you want to expand it into newer territory at all, something else may be in store. You can do anything with this from taking a three-ring binder and a few pages of printer paper with a grid printed on them to a purpose-made album. There are even some pages out there that have slots built into the page so that you don't have to hinge your stamps.Personally, I use Mystic Stamp Company's Heirloom album for my American collection, because it has printed pictures that depict a spot for nearly every stamp ever printed by the United States, along with other pertinent info like perforations, distinguishing marks, Scott Catalogue numbers, etcetera.

Once you have that, you'll need a way to keep your stamps in your album. The cheapest method to doing this is with a bag of hinges. This is hardly optimal, as this devalues a stamp in many peoples' minds, but you can get about 5,000 of them for less than fifteen bucks, and most stamps you'll run across aren't so valuable that hinging them would be really detrimental. Stamp Mounts are better, since they don't damage the stamp, but are also more expensive.

Once you have these things, you can go about acquiring more stamps. You can find grab-bags of large numbers of them in many places, including eBay, some hobby shops, and garage sales. If you want more specific stamps, there are numerous dealers about to choose from. You can remove stamps from envelopes by soaking them off in a bowl of water (aside from a lot of modern self-adhesive stamps, but that's a different story). Let family and friends know of your hobby, and see if they'll hang onto any stamps they may have laying around on old envelopes or what have you.

This is some stuff that should set you on your way to getting into the hobby. If you decide that it's your cup of tea, then there are many, many more things to get into. You can pick up one of the many guides to stamp collecting that are out there for more info, written by people much better at conveying things like this than I am. Of course, you can always ask us on /r/philately if you have any questions, as well, and there are many philatelic forums out there.

I hope that somewhere in this wall of text is at least some information you can find useful!

Well they're on Amazon, but you'd pay over $1 per stamp...

I actually found a book of them in a stack of old stationary goodies I recently pulled out of storage! But they're definitely still available on Amazon , just a bit pricier than more recent options :)

Stamps will make sending joy to my friends at /r/randomactsofcards easier!

I make soaps and bath bombs too, and these herbs would be great for the soaps. Citric acid is required for bath bombs, and I don't currently have any... </3

Feel better!!

Awesome thanks, I just really like the look of some of the 0.55 stamps, like the star trek ones and scooby do ones... I couldn't find any villeins stamps but found them on amazon. They're just listed as "forever first class" stamps. Does that mean they are the 0.35 ones?

Or you can buy the Forever stamps and not worry about that.

https://www.amazon.com/USPS-Forever-Stamps-Liberty-Bell/dp/B0011XVPUE

They are priced to the current price of stamps but you will always be able to use them even after the price has gone up.
