Those are 3M Command adhesive strips. They aren't reusable, but they're inexpensive and leave no residue.

I agree that this project isn't so bad. The general idea is non-ridiculous, I don't see a comparable product on the market (though this is somewhat similar), and there's no evidence that the creators have engaged in any sort of wrongdoing.

I'm not sold on the premise that people would want to carry around one of these things in case they need it, but I wouldn't mind having a few in my home. I'd be willing to pay $20 for a three-pack.

Edit: I see that 3M marketed a shelf of its own. It appears to have been discontinued, which suggests a lack of demand. (However, that product didn't fold down.)

You've got a few options for deep cabinets...depending what's in each cabinet usually you may want to choose a few of these.

1- You could add tiers to the shelves, so that things in the back are raised up a few inches. (Great for flour/sugar/spices/etc)

2- You could get turntables, basically like mini-lazy-susans so you can rotate things to the front/back (great for oils/vinegars/cans/etc)

3- You could convert the shelves into drawers you can pull out (probably only if your cabinets are VERY deep, and not too tall)

4- You could install pull downs (like this sort of thing: https://www.amazon.com/Rev-Shelf-5PD-24CRN-Pull-Down-Shelving/dp/B0009EP2S2)

I’ve only ever grown with artificial lights (unique living situation) so here’s some I can personally vouch for and recommend.

Sansi bulbs. I have the 24W model (fits in any standard desk lamp) and the 15W lights. These have special lenses that focus the beam very strongly in one spot, like a spotlight so it can be raised pretty high and cover a large-ish area. Don’t underestimate these, I put a plant too close to center and it turned jet black in 2 days. He bounced back just fine but these are definitely strong.

Strip lights. I’ve since upgraded my Sansi’s to these with a dedicated shelf. These aren’t as strong, I talked to a user on r/Succulents that reported haw etiolation 9 inches away from the light. However, once she lowered it to 5 inches they said they get amazing stress coloration. To put it in perspective, they said they had a Black Prince that’s always been green but has since gone black like the plant’s supposed to be.
As a bonus, here are the shelves I use, they are exactly the same dimensions as the lights.

Both are very capable depending on your needs.

Edit 11/26/19: Sooo, the strip lights have shot up to $200 for some reason. When I linked them, they were only $49. It’s either a stock issue or the new price, not sure.

Labeled ziplock gallon baggies all thrown into a big plastic tub. Something like this rack
is what we use at my office for storing old servers/switches and our tubs of cables. We tend to keep all our replacement or backup parts like drives, mobos, etc in the boxes they came in or failing that a random cardboard box.

Any time I think I've found the holy grail, two months later there's something better.

I stopped worrying about storage and use some old gunpla boxes in one of those plastic cabinets with drawers on wheels. Similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/IRIS-4-Drawer-Organizer-Top-Black/dp/B00447PDG6 (mine has five or six drawers)

As many have said, Baskets that are clear or where you can put a label would work well for miscellaneous items and items that group well together like sauces. I would use a can dispenser like this one since you have the room. If it was me I would definitely get a few roll out trays for a few of the lower shelves, that is if you can. It would make getting to the things in the back easier, specially for items you use almost daily. Clear stack-able containers are great for seeing what you have, I see you have one clear bin, those are good for pulling out things like spices and sauces. They make it easy for pulling out and putting back when your done.

You got it my friend!

Shelving - $90

Shelf Cover - $30

Landscape Fabric - $33

Storage Totes (6 pack) - $50

Local Temp/Humidity Gauges (12 pack) - $23

Incubation Tote Filters - $10

Sterlite Medium Stacking Basket (6 pack) - $15

Humidifier - $26

Standard Fan - Already Owned

Sonoff R2 Wifi Switches (4 pack) - $23

Sonoff TH16 Sensor Switch - $20

1500W Immersion Heater - $45

Standard Cooler w/ Drain - Already Owned

In total, it was a $350 project that could definitely have been done for cheaper, but I wanted to design it in a way that made it as painless as possible to turn my cardboard into mushrooms.

Also, I have an old space heater/fan combo that I intend to use when the temperature starts to drop. I plan to automate it with one of the Sonoff Wifi switches and control it with the Sonoff temp sensor.

Short of custom shelves have you considered trying to get what they have in a shoe store? The racks they use for clearance stuff seems like it would be a good idea if you can find one.

Not a shoe rack, [but I have a couple of these](http://www.76.com/"(H) x 48"(L) x 18"(D) Chrome NSF Wire Shelving Unit Commercial Heavy Duty 6 Layer/Tire Storage Rack Shelf Adjustable Steel Wire Metal Shelving Rack 3600 LBS Capacity https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EZEN2KW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_s42oDb3W2FPKD) that I use to hold things way heavier than shoes. You might be able to find a size to better suit your needs, but they're very sturdy.

I spent the last several months looking for a place to buy and I will tell you what I looked for and plan to do.

Ramps are important, most places have small steps that abled body people don't notice but it's a pain for some in a wheelchair to get over every day.

Carpet is a pain in the ass to roll on, stick with hard wood or concrete.

Bathroom doors are never wide enough and usually the bathroom as a whole is to cramped.

Walk in showers without doors are great.

^^^ is expensive but great in kitchens (I will gladly take a few of these if someone would buy them for me 🥳)

Front load washer and dryer, not stacked and on a pedestal, much easier to use.

Smaller handheld vacuums like the battery powered Dyson are much easier to use. I also plan on getting a Roomba because I'm lazy like that.

I also decided to get a lot of home automation stuff because it makes things much easier. Example: Google home or Alexa, smart light bulbs or switches, ring doorbell, smart deadbolt.

Other than that I just think little adaptive equipment here and there.

Edit addition: fridge with a bottom freezer and water filter within reach is super helpful to.

They're from a company called really useful boxes - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Really-Useful-Organiser-Storage-Plastic/dp/B004VRQF7A/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?keywords=really+useful+box&qid=1573107843&sprefix=really&sr=8-16 currently use them for either spare heads, arms, weapons etc for conversions or storing miniatures. I get a "lootbox" every month from a company which contains some paints, miniatures and normally some basing stuff so I try to organise the minis by genres.

u/tekflower · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I haven't read through other comments yet, but when we had a tiny apartment with a postage stamp sized kitchen, the apartment also had a surprisingly large walk-in closet, so we put a shelf at the back of that and used it as extra pantry space and to store less-often-used items.

Editing to add: I forgot about this, but in our first house, the kitchen was still small-ish and didn't have much storage, so we got a big chrome shelf, similar to this, and used that for the microwave, small appliances, baking pans, etc. I put baskets on it to hold smaller things, and used "S" hooks to hang pots from it. It wasn't that one, it was a bit larger, I think we paid about $100 for it at Sam's Club, but it was a very sturdy shelf, my husband has it in his workshop now, and we bought it probably 15 or more years ago.

u/rrredditor · 2 pointsr/Guitar

I use a Sterilite organizer drawers-on-wheels things.

Cables and Bulky stuff in the bottom drawer, things in boxes in the upper large drawer, fiddly electronics and hardware in the second drawer in smaller organizers, and tools in the top drawer.

Then I have a large Rubbermaid storage bin for longer-term storage.

That leave a lot of crap lying around but if I put it all away it would all fit. A lot gets left out on the work bench but I use it enough to warrant that.

u/dahuii22 · 2 pointsr/flytying

Before I got my tying desk, I used something like this for quite a while.

I was able to organize (and quickly see) materials by type in different drawers. Threads/tinsels/wire etc in a skinny drawer. Hooks/beads/tools in another. Then say, feathers and hackle in one. Furs and dubbing in another. Etc etc. Can double as a surface to tie on as well (depending on the height that you buy) where my vise would sit right on top and I'd work right there.

u/icallthebigspoon · 2 pointsr/organization

You can find things like these at Walmart for pretty cheap. When organizing, I like to have a large open space to work with (ideally) and just start picking things up from the main mess and putting them into category piles. Once you have this complete then you'll have a pretty good idea of what sizes of containers you'll need to buy. I would also suggest buying something like this if you have a lot of something or big things. I prefer clear totes/drawers as it is easier to tell what is in them, but I also like to print out labels too.

Just remember that when it comes to organizing, the mess always appears to be worse before it gets better! Good luck!

u/ypsm · 2 pointsr/LegoStorage

Hey, I know I'm late to this thread, but I only just now discovered this subreddit. I'm an American having the same problem, about to buy some stuff to organize and store several thousand loose LEGO pieces of various types. I too read the sorting and storage guide and, while it was great in general, its suggestions for divided drawers weren't useful (because they were all exclusive to the UK).

Anyway, I did some searching around, and I settled on some modular clear drawer organizers, to be inserted into some plastic drawers. It's more expensive than divided drawers, but I think it's more practical too, because you can take out each organizer cup, dump out its contents, put it back, etc., without disturbing the rest of the drawer's contents.

First the drawers, then the organizers.

I narrowed down my drawer choices to two options:

  1. IRIS Medium 10-Drawer Cart with Organizer Top, Black, and
  2. Sterilite 20938003 Wide 3 Drawer Unit, White Frame with Clear Drawers, 3-Pack

The IRIS drawers have a useable interior space of about 2.5" high x 9.5" wide x 12.5" long.

The Sterilite wide drawers have a useable interior space of about 2.5" high x 12.5" wide x 12.5" long.

I like that the IRIS has casters, in case you want to store in one place but then wheel them around to somewhere else to build.

I like that the Sterilite is more modular, in that you can stack as many or as few of the three-drawer units on top of each other as you want.

In the end, I decided to go all in with Sterilite, first because the drawers are wider and a little shallower (deeper and narrower drawers are worse than shallower wider drawers, because pieces get buried underneath others, and it's hard to find them), and second because the modularity makes them more flexible. I can put them on shelves, for example. And if I ever need to roll them around (store in one room, build in another), I can always get a dolly, like this one, for example, which will fit two Sterilite units side by side. Also, the IRIS drawers came cracked from amazon, because there wasn't enough padding in the box.

Now for the drawer organizers. I decided to go with STORi, which makes makeup organizers. They have a great modular system of clear acrylic cups, all 2" high, with width and length measurements that increase in increments of 3". So:

  • 3" x 3"
  • 6" x 3"
  • 9" x 3"
  • 12" x 3"
  • 6" x 6"

They stack inside each other as well. And they fit perfectly into both the IRIS and Sterilite drawers, in each case leaving about half an inch along both dimensions, which makes it really easy to lift one out without having to fuss. (I tried to upload a photo to imgur, but it's being fussy. If you're really curious let me know and I can try again.)

    Hope this helps!

I needed something which was easily accessible, large, and cheap. These ended up being ideal. I also put basic shelf liners in them to keep the minis from sliding around when you open and shut the drawers. If I can't see all my minis at a glance, I tend to forget which ones I have and some may not get used because of that. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00447PDG6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

Pretty easy and straight forward. Very easy to set up. I had built a wood rack but felt this would be easier and more upgradable. It takes up very little room and it adjustable without cutting a single thing! Just check the dimensions for what will suit your needs. Mine is 36" wide and accommodates 2x systems on top and possibly 2x more systems on the bottom. Here are some links for the part links below. I went with the black one since it had a lower chance of conductivity. I made sure to put some fitting cardboard under the mobo just in case. I used twisty ties to hold the cards up which worked great. Could use some thing Zip-Ties if you know how you want it and can leave it. I had to move mine around a bit so the twisty ties were easier.

If you're not sure of the final configuration you want, why build in 'permanent' shelves? Get a couple of rolling wire shelves. and call it a day until you figure out what you want the final product to be. If they roll, you can play with configurations until you're happy with it.

It's from Ikea, but I don't think they don't sell it anymore. I did however just buy a double kitchen shelf that I absolutely adore. I just put it together the other day! I have three mini acrylic organizers, two of which I got at Tj Maxx and the three compartment pencil holder is from target. One of my drawers also holds makeup, and I placed two organizer things that fit perfectly!

  1. Lease limits aquariums to less than 30-gallon.
  2. Apartment total is about 250 square feet. The whole aquaponic footprint is about 3½ square feet on a wheeled cart like this one.

If it's this one or close to it then it can handle 600 lbs per shelf, so you're good up to about 70 gallons.

u/xgnarf · 1 pointr/homelab

I wouldn't lack rack, it works well enough for a switch or some other light equipment but the legs are hollow after 2" from the top and 1/4" from the bottom. Generally one could find a 42U rack on craigslist for ~$100 or less, frankly if thats too expensive I'd get this with the 'benefit' that you don't need/can't use rails/shelfs

I have a bunch of other types of shelves, but if I had gotten this one first, I would have stuck with this type of shelving. It holds a lot and the lights fit perfectly.

u/n_nick · 1 pointr/cablefail

These velcro straps used to be $5 and some days are cheaper and will help organize them no matter what you throw them in. They have the little loop so one end always stays attached to the cable. The first link would be the nicest solution although the most expensive. Clear bins that could stack also work well as you can get different sizes. I currently use a mix of the bins and a cheap drawer shelf like this along with some larger boxes for bulky/outdated cables. I would suggest going with thinner versions of that instead of your last link. Your mileage may vary but normally they will be cheaper in store.

u/bleedingman · 1 pointr/Hemophilia

Same idea here, factor in fridge and supplies in a rolling cart that is kept in a closet. Similar to this with an organizer tray in the top for butterflies (27g x .5”) alcohol wipes, gauze, coban etc.

u/hikelsie · 1 pointr/orchids

Depends on the size of the orchids. I have a wide variety: a small group of minis, a couple of whoppers, but mostly average sized phals. It holds most of my collection, about 30 orchids. The top shelves held my tall girls, like dendrobiums and oncidiums. The lower shelves were a little short for them.

If you were just doing phals, you could easily fit 18-25. Just minis, probably 27-35. Wide or large orchids, 9-12.

I also have another shelf that they sit on that holds roughly the same. I like them both equally: https://www.amazon.com/Costway-Multifunctional-Customizable-Utility-Bathroom/dp/B07C8FZQC6/ref=pd_aw_fbt_86_img_2/139-9207642-8168344?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07C8FZQC6&pd_rd_r=8b01c836-9dd7-11e9-817d-770b07e0fa98&pd_rd_w=tB2xR&pd_rd_wg=XE9EZ&pf_rd_p=3ecc74bd-d08f-44bd-96f3-d0c2b89f563a&pf_rd_r=XZYE38P2SSS16SPF0QRD&psc=1&refRID=XZYE38P2SSS16SPF0QRD
