I have one like it but it's not leather. Grab you a military style day pack (I think the one shoulder ones are rush bags, maybe that's just the brand I have though) and attach some extra pouches to the M.O.L.L.E. straps. Something like this. There are some for not as many money if super rugged isn't needed.

u/Arikash · 7 pointsr/Ultralight

In this vein, you could check out upland game hunting vests. They often have large pockets for shells/other stuff on the front and a big pouch on the back for carrying whatever game you're able to take. Will probably want to do some sewing so it's a tighter/better fit but might be something to check out. Amazon, Cabela's, and Midway USA are good places to shop. They're definitely not going to be ultra-light, but they should be a reasonably cheap proof of concept.

Edit: If you're really serious, there's this dove hunting belt that I found for 40$.

I finally ditched my ratty old backpack for a real range bag. Arrived yesterday.

Its not very big but it neatly fits everything I could think to put in it and I didn't spend much.

I have this one and I've used pretty roughly for about a year and it still looks brand new. No tears, zippers all work great etc. It has inserts in the main compartment so you can divide it in 3. The sides have removable padded slips for your guns. I like it quite a bit. I also have this Browning bag and it's okay, but I prefer the Gunmate. I think the Browning is more of an Ammo bag because it doesn't have a specific spot for guns. Honestly, it sort of just sits in my closet full of ammo. Anyway, hope this helps.

EDIT: I remembered my one gripe with the Gunmate... No magazine holders. I really wish it had about 5-6 of them. I went and looked at the MidwayUSA bags and I'm contemplating buying THIS bag.

My tactical man-purse. I've been using this for 3 and a half years now, still holding up well!

You'd have to describe your shooting setup: Bench, prone or standing.

If bench, are you just shooting using your elbow as the support, are you using range-supplied wood blocks, sandbags etc? Is the rifle completely supported front and back on bags etc?

An 8" circle at 200 is about 4 MoA which isn't unreasonable if you're shooting with your elbow as support, stock milspec trigger and no rear bag using inexpensive ammo.

If you want to see how good the gun is, try this:

  1. Get decent ammo. Magtech 77gr is about 50cpr and decent ammo. PPU 69gr or 75gr is similar and about 44-50cpr

  2. Support the rifle on bags front and back. Sandbags are the best and most stable. I like Protekor Model. A few more $ but they'll last forever.

  3. Aim small/miss small. Don't aim at a 3" circle, pick the smallest point you can make out on the target and purposely offset your point of impact. E.g. Adjust POI up about 1-2" so the dot etc stays unharmed as you shoot.

Your 9x mag may be a little low for 200yds aiming for a small point. Try 100yds instead picking a small aim point.

For me, 15x is barely enough to see grid lines crossing at 100yds (about a 2mm PoA) which is what I'm aiming at for under 1 MoA.

Here is the link to that color, the other colors are a few bucks more. Be sure to emphasize that it is a tactical man purse. It fits my CCW just fine.

My pistol range bag came with two pistol rugs/sleeves ( you can see them in the customer images). I just place my pistol ontop of one of those when I'm leaving it on the table at the range. I would just purchase a rifle cleaning mat if you want to fit four pistols on one mat that is rollable. I ordered this mat from a calguns member, shipped fast and low price. You could also order a XXL extended mouse pad

I own and love the G.P.S. Medium Range Bag. It is seven kinds of awesome and holds a metric fuckton of pistol stuff. Buy this bag and spend your time more usefully agonizing over whether to buy a Buckmark or a 1911 (buy both).

Mechanix M-pacts

One Tigris is fine.

Going off this picture

For gear, a low vis plate carrier (or crossdraw, but plate carrier makes more sense) and a belt with HSGI Tacos on it or a drop leg. That makes sense for a prepper/undercover perspective. A low vis plate carrier (like a Slickster or Spritius?) would help them stay sort of inconspicuous, if they drop the guns at least, while providing protection. Tacos make sense because they're scavenging for ammo and using various different guns and Tacos will carry anything.

They use Blackhawk Serpa holsters but I can not recommend that. They're some of the worst designed holsters ever made. Safariland and G-code both make drop legs that are much better.

I don't know much about sling bags but 5.11 makes one. It'll be real nice though expensive. Best advice I can give there is to go on Amazon and find one you like.

for clothes, they wear everyday clothes. Jeans or cargo pants with a shirt and coat. I think the 5.11 Stryke pants would be a good fit. They have plenty of pockets, stretch well, don't look tactical, and are slightly water proof which I think would be good in snow. Other than those, wear whatever pants you can move well in. Could look into 'tactical jeans' like 5.11 Defender-Flex but I don't know much about those.

What people are hinting at and not saying, is that you can get yourself a really good bag that will do everything you could need (unless your needs are INTENSELY specalized) for around $100. Anyone much over that is either too far into their own hype, or are approaching dimishing returns as far as dollar per feature.

Get a little more specific about what you're carrying around, or what you do regularly and options can be narrowed. Some people carry more, and some less. A 5.11 Rush 10 may be your size, where as others need a larger bag like a Rush 12.

Do you want single or double strap? Do you care about a military type bag or would you prefer a more urban look? Do you carry a laptop? Do you have any hobbies that require special gear? Does it need to be close to water proof? Do you plan to have to carry it around for long periods of time or will it spend a lot of time in the car? Does it need to perform double duty as a school/work bag?

All of these are going to be rugged options. None of these are over $150. Some are larger than others and some are sling packs. Others are backpack style. Some more urban than others.

You CAN get spendy on a pack, but really...I don't see much reason unless you want something that isn't available at a lower price somewhere else. Goruck is well thought of, but their bags seem expensive to me for what they are.

I'm just going to use this space to write a potential post and then copypasta it to the mods, see if they wanna use it.

Hello! This is sk8s's guide to the holidays!

You're probably here looking for gift ideas for the gun enthusiast in your life. Now, each individual person is unique and preferences, but here's a little launching pad to get you started.

Here is a list of stocking stuffers for the shooting enthusiast in your life, in no particular order.

  • Ammo - Can't shoot a gun if you don't have ammo for it. Know what caliber (size) of ammo to get. If it's a handgun or a rifle, most guns won't be terribly picky about what brand it is. Depending on the caliber, the prices can vary greatly. A box of practice 9mm (50 rounds) will be in the $10-15 range, whereas a box of practice .45 ACP (50 rounds) will cost about $20-$25. Whether it's bulk practice ammo or a box of match grade ammo, it will be enjoyed immensely.

  • Eye and ear protection - I have a pair of these in my bag as a loaner pair (and I use them frequently if I forget my nice pair). Lucky Gunner has a fairly comprehensive guide for eyepro. As for hearing protection, Gunnit recommends the Howard Leight Impact Sport electronic earmuffs. I have them, I love them. A pack of regular foam earplugs is great as well for doubling up at an indoor range.

  • Targets - Gotta have something to shoot at. A pack of paper targets makes a great, cheap stocking stuffer. I like the Shoot-n-see targets for when I'm shooting with friends, and these for when I'm trying to shoot the best I can. However, there can be something quite satisfying about hearing the ring of a bullet hitting steel. If the person has a .22LR, this is an incredibly fun target. My buddy and I have shot well over 2000 rounds at his, and it's just as fun every time. For a centerfire handgun or rifle, check out MOA targets for some great steel targets.

  • Range bag - gotta take all the crap to the range in style! The most recommended range bag here is the Midway USA compact competition range bag. My favorite bag that I've seen (and will probably buy soon) is the GPS Range Bag, but that's because I'm anal about organizing my crap.

  • Range membership - Range fees can be very expensive. A range pass or membership allows the shooter in your life to go whenever they want!

  • Concealed weapons permit class - Has someone in your life been in a situation where they wished they had a gun to protect them? Is someone looking to have gun to prevent that situation from happening? Pay for them to go get their concealed weapons permit. They may or may not carry, but if the state allows it, it is never a bad idea to have such a permit. You know, just in case.

Now, these are all just some generic questions and are not intended to be a one-size-fits-all solution (though I'm of the opinion that nobody will turn down ammo). Feel free to comment if you have any questions and we can help you out! Happy holidays!

My bag is a knock off Maxpedition Jumbo, like this but in tan:

In it I have

  • Milwaukee M12 driver (in the back pocket) ttp://www.amazon.com/Bare-Tool-Milwaukee-2401-20-12-Volt-Subcompact/dp/B002N2XJ8I/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1374108007&sr=8-10&keywords=m12h
  • Fluke LinkRunner Duo and tone probe http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/flukenetworks/network-testers/linkrunner-duo.htm
  • Screw Bits, drill bits, and long extension for drill. The long extension is the important part here, helps deal with vertical finger wire managers.
  • Klien 10 in 1 Screwdriver
  • Flashlight
  • Paladin Snips
  • Sharpie
  • Label Maker (in water bottle pocket)
  • Spare Optics (Gig SR, 10G SR, COPPER - GLC-T can save your ass)
  • Cage nuts and screws
  • Bandaids
  • Velcro

I do design now but my job used to be to fly in and rack, stack, connect, and configure in a colo or to refresh in company owned locations. This was all I really needed to get by.

You are looking for a tool bag. I use this one. It is big enough for two pistol cases, eyes/ears, targets, multitool, ammo, etc. On the inside there are pockets along the walls where you can put magazines/boxes of .22LR. I've had mine for a year and there are no visible signs of wear.

u/BulletsandBottles · 2 pointsr/Glocks

I use this . It's a little pricey, but there is definitely room for everything. Outside of the typical eyes and ears, there's room for 4 guns, 12 mags, and a thousand little pockets for everything else. I keep foam earplugs, tacs for hanging targets, targets themselves, ammo, a tiny med kit, and shooting gloves in there. Occasionally a cleaning kit if I'm traveling, but not usually. There's definitely room for more, if that's your thing

u/cookietrash · 2 pointsr/MAguns

To my knowledge, as u/ExpatJundi said, it doesn't have to be rigid. I'm pretty certain it can just have locking zippers, especially since that's what I primarily see at USPSA competitions and other range gatherings.

I had been looking at the Plano pistol cases, but ended up saving some money by going with this bag... Not top of the line by any means but I've been very happy with it thus far.

"Transporting a firearm in a vehicle: The same licensing restrictions on ownership of various firearms applies to transportation of such guns. I run a G.P.S. Tactical Quad Plus 2 Pistol Case, and it was quite reasonable in price ($50). I bring 4-6 pistols in it (Walther Q5, CZ75 SP01, Glock 22, P30L and sometimes my 9mm Shieldn and P22) without them scratching each other. Holds them secure along with several hundred rounds of ammo, glasses, ear plugs, minor cleaning kit, etc. About the only thing it doesn't hold well is targets.

Additional Note: Few guys at my range run G.P.S. Handgunner Backpacks, they are pretty happy with them (they like being able to pull out all of the pistols on a tray and just set it on the shooting bench), but the bag itself is just too large for what I like to run.

I'd buy:

Breakfree CLP syringe

Larger bottle of breakfre

Boresnake

Those and a box of q-tips plus a toothbrush and maybe some rags make a great cleaning kit. For a light, you'll want to get a streamlight tlr-1 or tlr-3, but they are both closer to $100. You might also want to get a little safe for her, a mini gunvault would work well. And ammo... must have the ammo!

You might also want a range bag to keep your hearing/eye protection, ammo, and pistol in.

Gunmate bag

And sometimes I find that muff aren't enough which I saw you bought. I like to wear these sometimes by themselves or under muffs.

Peltor ear plugs

I take out the yellow end and they make really nice, compact, and effective hearing protection. And they're reusable of course.

My father bought me this when first son was born. Great product very modular. Still like new after years of hard use. Bonus the flap for the main bag unfolds all the way and makes a great changing pad on the go, and it has a pocket for a camel back bladder which is super useful to keep the kiddos hydrated on days out.

For a general backpack I use a 5.11 RUSH 12, if you want something a little bigger they have ones that are basically the same but larger capacity RUSH 24 and RUSH 72. I use the RUSH MOAB 10 which is basically the RUSH 12 but with a single sling instead of a proper backpack. I have both BTW and you can clip them onto each other if you need more storage or if you travel with someone and you find yourself needing to carry two backpacks at once. Its a great general "all occasions" backpack. That being said it has a hydration pouch which might be overkill for you, its perfect for me because I go hiking. Now 5.11 has other backpacks that are similar that dont have the hydration pack I'd check them out. They are a quality manufacturer and has good customer service. If you want to go a little cheaper its pretty easy to find chinese knockoff backpacks that are almost exactly like real 5.11 ones but much cheaper, 5.11 is probably $110+, the knockoffs are closer to $50, I cant vouch for the quality, could be made in the same factory, but I know the customer service is shit. I wouldnt call it minimalist as they do tend to have MOLLE straps on them, it reduces the amount of stuff you have on the exterior such as pouches and cup holders but its not "smoothe". They have a 25L Dart pack that is pretty minimalist on the outside and is pretty large, you should be able to pack a laptop and a couple days of clothing and supplies fairly easily.

Now if you want security I got my girl PacSafe VentureSafe Exp45, Its minimalist like you want and a little bigger, its basically a carry on with backpack straps but it also has some security features that you seem interested in, you can lock the zippers, the zipper itself is pretty secure and the backpack itself is cut resistant, it also comes with a wire to anchor it to something when your out traveling and you dont want your backpack snatched.

Right now I'm using a UTG messenger bag. I really should have paid another $40 and gotten the Maxpedition, but I have to admit it's held up well over 2 years so far. No threads have pulled out and all the zippers still work.

I used to carry a surplus West German army backpack to work, but it was honestly too big and I ended up with a ton of crap in there that I didn't need. This bag is small enough to hold the essentials and not get overstuffed with old bills, papers, books, etc.

The UTG bag is big enough for me to hold my headphones, a bunch of USB drives, multitool and some screwdrivers, crimping tool, flashlight, tape, pens, gloves, band-aids, neosporin and some allergy and pain meds.

I do some photography. I shoot with a canon T3i and I use two lenses primarily: my 70:30 f4-5.6 and my 85 f1.8. I can fit both of those plus the lens hoods for both and the camera body in the bag comfortably and have plenty of space in the other compartments for my batteries, SD cards, a couple microfiber cloths and other small cleaning tools, as well as other personal stuff I need. It's super sturdy and any compartment that has a part exposed to the exterior has a rubber waterproof coating. It's pretty damn cheap for a really (and I mean REALLY) well made bag that easily fits the essentials. Any small bag that fits a camera can be a camera bag.. So don't go looking specifically for a "camera bag" because you're limiting yourself.

I have this bag and it works great—super sturdy and well-constructed, and the shoulder strap easily handles the weight. It is decently padded and has rubber feet on the bottom. The M1 is a hair tight to get into the main compartment, but it fits perfectly once inside (the main compartment dimensions are nearly perfect for the M1 with a couple inches to spare lengthwise). My Vortex Rac3 (75%) or New Poker II (65%) fit comfortably in either side compartment (not sure if a TKL would fit though). If you have a headset that fully folds up, that fits nicely in the draw-string end pouch/bag (Sennheiser PC350SE). The side pouches also have an interior molle web that is great for keeping your cables nice and organized. Definitely recommend it!

I picked that one up recently. I went with the large. Would easily fit 8 pistols depending upon how you arrange it. Granted it's going to weigh a ton with that many. Seems like a solid built bag.

5'11 Rush MOAB 10 with a fr-1 organizer from maxpedition. I love this set up.

It's awesome because of the multiple small organization pouches where I put different stuff in and it will store upto a 15" laptop.

moab 10 pack link

The bag wasn't really designed for multiple lights and or tools. So the seperate FR-1 pouch really helps in organizing that.

Welcome dude! Hmm, I've been purchasing these monitors for work recently and they work surprisingly well and are pretty affordable.

In regards to a carrying case. Some of us use range bags. Yes, the same ones used to carry firearms. It will certainly depend on your case you choose though. Take a look at the following:

Is she primarily a pistol shooter, or a rifle shooter? For handgun days, I'm pretty happy with my Blackhawk Sportster Deluxe. My only gripe is that it's more than a little wide and bulky, but the plus side of that is that it'll hold just about whatever you'd want to pack in there.

For rifles, I strongly recommend the NcSTAR Double Carbine Case (or the Double Subgun Case for AR pistols and similarly-sized guns). I have the 42" bag, as well as the subgun bag, and I have zero complaints. The bags aren't excessively bulky, but they have more than enough storage space, and I'm a big fan of their general design.

G.P.S Medium Range Bag.

It's a range bag for people with borderline OCD like myself.

I found it at Walmart last holiday season for less than $50.
