Possibly used with a slate call for turkey hunting.

u/Muad_Dib_of_Dune · 6 pointsr/crows

I attracted the murder at my old house by spreading peanuts in the yard and using a crow call, with a food signal. Its weird to get used to doing a proper call but they do talk back with you!!

Primos Feedin' Mallard Call

Works decent, any reed call is still better but if you can not call it is a good option.

u/Kipferlfan · 4 pointsr/Amd

Freesync shouldn't have an extra cost. What monitors are you looking at?

Edit: Just looked into it, the 1080p price range seems to be the same prize:

Monitor 1

Monitor 2

While theres a huge gap in price on 1440p models...

forget the apps and get an electronic caller

u/dashinglassie · 3 pointsr/Hunting

Check out http://www.elknut.com/. Paul knows his stuff and breaks it down so even a beginner (like myself) can be successful.
I started out with an external reed cow call like this one and am now starting to learn with a mouth diaphragm. Youtube instructional videos will be your best friend. Cow calling is much easier than bugling but being able to do both is best of course.

I know the Freesync units cost less, but from the models I've seen online where it looks like one OEM is offering the same panel in both versions, the difference in cost is not close to that wide.

For example, the Acer XF240H and Acer XB240H. As far as I can tell, they use the same panel.

XB240H ~$275

XF240H ~$240

Both of those monitor sold via Amazon.

Buck Gardner Double Nasty Duck Call Combo Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IR63J2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_QN6JAbTSY7276

The cd that comes with this helped me more than anything with learning to call.

No lol that reminds me of salt lick blocks for deer and horses

You'll want to hunt in northern california, though I have seen some birds in the Fresno area. I only hunt public land and it is very tough to find birds but that's the game.

Archery for your first time may be frustrating so I would recommend the general season but if you can do both and extend your season, go for it.

Decoys are a plus if you have them and you find a good spot to to call in a bird and play the waiting game. As for calls, a good box call is really all a beginner needs Something like this. I also use mouth calls; I've had some from HS Strut, Knight and Hale, and Zink. I tend to like the Zink calls the most (more comfortable in my mouth but to each his own)and I usually go with a double reed because I'm not super advanced. If you are going to use a mouth call, practice, practice, PRACTICE.

Only some areas need an application but most places are open in general here in california because Turkeys are part of the upland game stamp and not considered "big game" like in other states that have them zoned.

Buy one of these:

Go downtown of the nearest major city, and blow at regular intervals. You'll soon be surrounded by more escorts than you know what to do with.

The loud squeaky is called a squawker or a predator call. At least that's what it is called on Amazon. Our girl hears it and will stop everything she's doing. https://www.amazon.com/Pete-Rickards-Scotch-Predator-Call/dp/B0084EGGR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502748711&sr=8-1&keywords=squawker

We own and use a rabbit in distress squawker. Like this:

I normally just sneak ducks or shoot them in the field with my goose spread, so I can't really help you there as I just use a feeding call for mallards.

For Canadian geese, I use this goose flute https://www.amazon.com/5001129-Flambeau-River-Honker-Goose/dp/B000JJGDHQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1498770852&sr=1-2&keywords=goose+flute
And I don't have any issues bringing in geese. For snow geese, I use https://www.amazon.com/Primos-Shaved-Reed-Snow-Call/dp/B0013R881C and that seems to work fine.

I try not to overcall though, I only call to reassure the birds to come in. I would say location and your decoys matter more than calling.

I recommend the Primos Hunting Turkey Hunter Starter Pack as a good value/introduction to turkey calls:

I am in a similar situation: looking to upgrade from 24" 60Hz to 24" 144Hz. I currently have a GTX 1060 (6gb) installed with my old 2600k(4.5Ghz). (I don't mind dropping all my graphical settings to get max FPS)

I think the important thing is to make sure you can get your FPS up high enough to ensure you are getting the best out of the 144Hz refresh rate monitors. There will be very little point of upgrading from 60Hz to 144Hz if all your graphics card can output is 60fps.

I am looking at the Acer XB240H (£180) which seems to to be cheapest 1080p 144hz I can find in the UK and I don't mind that the colours may look a bit washed out.

Also, I think the only problem you may have with the 23.6" monitor is the resolution scaling, like it may not be a complete 1080x1920...

u/Zberry1978 · 1 pointr/deerhunting

I use the primos soft grunt tube seen here and this estrus can call here (https://www.amazon.com/Primos-Long-Deer-Call-Rings/dp/B00AU6G9AE/ref=sr_1_20?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1539271336&sr=1-20&keywords=primos+deer+call). but that kit looks like a good deal.

I do use tinks 69 during the rut. i'll put a few drops right where I want the deer to stop for a shot, better to use to little than too much. I've tried dragging it in on a string but not much for results. I've also hung scent drippers over scrapes which has probably giving me the best results but mostly to get bucks on trail cam.

u/Chrisspray · 1 pointr/Monitors

Assuming you are on about this one then it is only 60hz sadly. I've been looking recently and the cheapest I found is this monitor.

u/thatOTHERnovaguy · 1 pointr/CollegeBasketball
u/wmwid · 1 pointr/dogs

And just in case your hound gets away from you by accident, it is a good idea to have a good squawker on hand.

I would recommend a Scotch Predator Call

The Lg is currently discontinued so it is quite hard to find. http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-24GM77-B

The BenQ XL2420z is also very hard to find in the UK. Unless you are willing to pay £100 more than its usual price.

What do u think of the BenQ XL2430T?

Also the acer acer XB240H seems promising. But i have heard so little about it.

I have an electronic call I got from a cousin who moved out of state (I think it is this one[https://www.amazon.com/ICOtec-GC101XL-Compact-Electronic-Predator/dp/B00GP10SK0/ref=sr_1_30?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1483467971&sr=1-30&keywords=coyote+call])
I was told by some people from around here (southeastern Michigan) that they bait the same spot for a week or two befroe they plan to hunt it. they said they used road kill...just soothing to get them coming in...then once they were sitting ready to hunt they would call

u/mattthemagnificent98 · 1 pointr/Hunting

heres the [link] (http://www.amazon.com/Black-Rack-Rattling-Antlers-Instructional/dp/B007SWL7A0) on amazon, Buddy sold them to me for 5 bucks, couldnt pass it up
they actually sound pretty realistic.

u/themeanferalsong · 1 pointr/dogs

You could also try a rabbit call, they are used for greyhounds. My dog is part greyhound and if she takes off chasing something I am screwed (I can't let her offleash unless she's completely fenced in). I haven't bought one of these yet, but I plan too. You can practice with it and reward when your dog comes back.
