How's this compare to the Primary Arms 1-6x24 ACSS?

u/[deleted] · 13 pointsr/guns

Get a vortex, primary arms, or bushnell scope.

Don't waste your time on trash.

u/1fifty7 · 9 pointsr/airsoft

On my backup gun I run this Pinty reflex sight. It's cheap and gets the job done. The adjustable brightness is a nice touch if you're playing in a dark/light environment.

On my main gun I run the Bushnell TRS-25. Definitely the best bang for your buck. Great construction and a super clear and sharp reticle.

This is the cheapest magnified "combat" optic I would recommend

This is a good "all around" optic

Holosun 2MOA Micro Red Dot System HS407C https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NWWGNDR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lbSJDbX4DC48X

Good micro red dot

These are all just above your price range. If you're adamant about staying below $200 vortex, holosun, and Sig all make standard/compact sized red dots for under that.

I use a Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32 and love it. Very clear glass and a good eye box. It is a little more than your budget though. I usually sit around 3-5x

Nikon has a 3-9x for $90. I've heard they make good stuff but never used it.

I've heard Pinty is good if you're on a budget. Again, never used it.

I've heard the UTG bugbuster 3-9x is good. The onyl experience I have with UTG is their 1-4.5x which I like and their 3x magnifier which I did not like.

The Visionking 1.25-5x would be good. I very rarely go above 5x, and even then it's just for spotting.

u/LockyBalboaPrime · 6 pointsr/GunAccessoriesForSale

I haven't priced all the rest but the scope is super overpriced.

Scope new is $330, mount new is $200 at most.

Asking $550 used for the set is madness.

u/theoriginalharbinger · 6 pointsr/guns

This is likely OP's scope.

Simplest explanations tend to be the most likely, so I'll put it bluntly: That's a shitty scope with indifferent manufacturing and unknown quality.

Get a Burris rimfire, Sightron rimfire, Leupold rimfire, or other dedicated rimfire scope. It'll set you back about $100, but a $20 scope that can't be dialed in doesn't really represent cost savings.

u/JoshuaJake · 5 pointsr/appleseed

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax

Vortex makes a 2-7 rim fire scope that I would highly recommend.

I got this one. No complaints, does what it should and it hasn't broken yet. This one looks alright too. Doesn't make sense to me to spend much more as I'm not a gunsmith.

u/Melbeachmoose20 · 5 pointsr/AR10

I would go with something designed for the AR platform that gets the scope out a bit farther so you can charge the rifle easily.

On a scale of LOTR Universe Heroes, Vortex lines are thusly distributed:

  • Crossfire: Bilbo Baggins. Sturdy, champion at conkers, not advised for battle companion, but has some great benefits for simple work. Crossfires are nitrogen purged, and have OK glass. Do not have parallax adjustments, but are often illuminated. Prices are ~between $100 and $200

  • Diamondback: Gimli son of Gloin. A step up from the Crossfire, these companions have better coatings on the lenses for light transmission, and are argon purged to keep out moisture and prevent fogging. Argon purging is superior to just the nitrogen stuff. Not usually illuminated, and does not have parallax adjustments. Prices are ~between $150 and $250

  • Diamondback HP: Aragorn, son of Arathorn. Diamondback HPs have XD (low dispersion) lenses, which make light transmission awesome. XD lenses are usually reserved for mid to high range optics, such as Vortex's Viper line. The HP is argon purged and features parallax adjustment. Not illuminated. Prices are ~between $225 and $300

  • Viper Line: Legolas, of the Woodland Relm. Vipers were the best of the Vortex line for sometime and now feature more or less three distinct lines. (1) the Viper, is essentially the same thing as the cheaper Diamondback HP, and you'd essentially be paying extra money for nothing if you went with the vanilla Viper. Prices are ~between $350 and $400 (2) The Viper HS, features non capped turrets, a zero stop, XD lenses, and is not illuminated. Prices are ~between $500 and $1200 (3) The Viper PST is basically the HS, but illuminated. Prices are ~between $429 and $2800

  • Razor: Gandalf the Grey. Razors are OP and expensive. If you don't know about the differences between the lower end scopes, this one will go over your head (as it does mine) and your price range (as it does mine).

In my opinion, the best value would be the Diamondback HP 3-12x42, at $275. Basically an under priced Viper.
u/Future135 · 5 pointsr/1022

I was looking for a scope in that range too and came across a r/LongRange thread asking for a ~$100 scope recommendation a couple days ago[1]. After a bit of searching I decided to get a vortex crossfire 3-9 for my 10/22[2].

Crossfire 3-9x40 is $150. It may be inexpensive, but Vortex believes in it enough to send you another one no matter what if it breaks.

OK. To me Pennsylvania looks to be mostly green, not tan. Therefore I recommend you purchase green equipment which will suit the various types of camouflage you might want to switch between over the course of the seasons.

I personally don't recommend SCARs at all; I think they're failure-prone and poor value for money compared to ARs, but if you want one, you want one.

That said, I would recommend that you purchase:

Equipment | Model | Price | Comment
---|---|----|----
Eye Protection | Revision Desert Locust Fan Goggles (Foliage Green) | $149 | Affords maximum anti-fogging capability.
Eye Protection | Revision Desert Locust Thermal Lens | $28 | Affords maximum anti-fogging capability.
Lower-Face Protection | Matrix Mesh Mask (Ranger Green) | $13 |
Shirt | Military Surplus UBACS | ? | Choose a camouflage pattern suitable for your area.
Jacket | Military Surplus | ? | Choose a camouflage pattern suitable for your area.
Rig | Haley Strategic D3CRX (Ranger Green) | $180 | Everything you'll ever need and nothing you don't. Candidate for lower-price replacement.
Rig | Haley Strategic MP2 | $40 | Makes for much faster insertion/extraction.
Pack | Haley Strategic FlatPack (Ranger Green) | $135 | Integrates easily with the D3CRX and will carry things like water, spare ammunition, food and batteries. Candidate for lower-price replacement.
Gloves | ? | ? |
Trousers | Military Surplus | ? | Choose a camouflage pattern suitable for your area.
Belt | ? | ? |
Dump Pouch | ? | ? |
Primary Weapon | VFC SCAR-L (Tan) | $268 | Airsoft SCARs, with the exception of the costly TM Recoil Shock, are almost universally deeply flawed. If you want one, you want one...
Mid-Cap Magazine (x6) | G&P 130rd Metal STANAG (Tan) | $72 | These are metal-shelled and reasonably high-quality. Plan on carrying four in the chest rig and one in the gun, plus a spare to keep in case of failures.
Optic | VisionKing 1.25-5x26 Short Dot | $66 | Excellent quick-adjust low-mid-power scope.
Optic Mount | Element LaRue SPR-1.5 | $40 |
Vertical Foregrip | MagPul RVG (Dark Earth) | $24 |
Sling | ? | ? | Vickers-style quick-adjust 2-point strongly recommended. Work out how you want to attach it to the SCAR first.
Battery (x3) | Turnigy Nano-Tech 2000mAh 2S (7.4V) 15~25C LiPo | $33 | Batteries are grossly overpriced from airsoft retailers. These packs will fit the SCAR but aren't necessarily the biggest that will fit; I recommend waiting until you have the gun, measuring the compartment, inputting those measurements into HobbyKing's LiPo finder, and choosing the largest (mAh) 2S (7.4V) Turnigy Nano Tech pack you can fit into the gun.
Charger | Turnigy E3 Compact | $13 | Basic balance charger.
Battery Tester | Turnigy DLUX Tester/Balancer | $12 | Displays state of charge (preventing you from dropping below a safe voltage) and balances the cells in the pack for longevity.
| Total: | ~$ |

I mean, that's without a single upgrade in the gun - which really should at the very least have someone correct the AoE, do a re-shim (possibly requiring replacing the gears), possibly replace the bushings, perform a flat-hop, fit a Gate PicoSSR3 MOSFET, and convert the gun and batteries to Deans connectors.

I've had mine in the field for a few months. Great battery life, takes either picture or 10 sec videos. Can set the timer to take those every 1, 5, or 10 minutes. Great pics and video in night or day. Can't go wrong for less than $60.

I've got a Vortex Crossfire 2 on my rifle. They make a similar version for .22 rimfire with the parallax at 50 yards. It's a great scope imho and a fair bit cheaper than the Vortex Diamondback. The eye relief on the two is different though. I'm not sure if you're looking for something with a specific eye relief, but it is something to take into consideration.

Kit list:

Rifle:

WELL Remington 700 (W700)

CVLife 3-9 x 40mm Hunting Scope

MFH Universal Quick Adjustment Sling

Pistol:

ARMY R17 (3rd Gen)

Other:

Blackhawk CQB Canvas Belt

Blackhawk Nylon Hip Holster - Black, size 8

CONDOR MA23-002 Double Pistol Mag Pouch

KS Black Grip Tape

My kit so far. The W700 has had it's issues, but nothing a bit of elbow grease and time haven't fixed. It now shoots like a dream (Appx 400 FPS), and groups tight. I love the inconventional 30rnd stick magazine that runs parallel to the optic. They're super light and don't give me any feed issues. Originally the rifle looked like this, (Thanks UK Airsoft regulations), but a little Matt black paint sorted that out pretty quickly. The only other real adjustments I made was to fit two tiny rails for the scope, and remove the front iron sight. It just didn't look right with the optic attached, and I don't plan on using it without the scope anyway.

The R17 runs like a dream too. Only issue I had with it was that the ABS frame felt a little too plastic-y and would slip in my grip, so I added small strips of regular scooter grip tape to the main points of contact. The strips on the rear of the pistol grip need glueing, along with the one on the trigger, but the others have stuck fine. Might refit them after giving the lower a matt black coat in future. Also had a problem with one of the WE Mag's not feeding correctly, but I fixed that with a little filing down, and some lube.

The belt rig is super light, and I'll be attaching a water bottle, small medkit, and a utility pouch in future. Also going to be running with my 5.11 Rush 12 backpack with whatever other gear I need. I'll post a full loadout picture when I have everything, including clothing.

There are very expensive shit replicas and very cheap usable optics. (Basically an Eotech replica is expensive for how crappy it is. Go with something that’s a super simple rectangle/ circle of glass up front that’s not inside a tube or housing)

I’m really liking my Dagger Defense red dot. In fact here is an Even cheaper priced version that’s identical: https://www.amazon.com/Pinty-Reflex-Holographic-Different-Reticles/dp/B01EWAAWGU/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=red+dot&qid=1564699160&s=gateway&sr=8-11

I also used a $18 red dot from Amazon.com (basically one of the 100 Walther Red Dot knock offs) and actually liked it better than some of my real steel ones!

u/Trollygag · 3 pointsr/guns

I've broken cheap mounts before. screws snap, they aren't in line, just bad all around. You don't want them to damage your optic, waste your time, or waste your ammo.

When I picked up an 'entry level' PEPR, I had already wasted $35 on a mount, $30 in gas, $50 in ammo, and 5 hours of my time from a UTG mount.

The waste and time alone would have paid for a much nicer mount than a PEPR, so in the end, I pissed away a lot of money on that poor first choice.

I still have the PEPR, and it is okay, but you have to pay attention to the torque on the screws holding it on because they will try to work loose over time.

My next mount was a 20 MOA ADM Recon mount ($160), which was QD. Not only has it been rock solid and has nice features, but you can feel in your hands how tough it is.

Aero makes a really nice mount for not too much money.

UTG makes some sights that are good enough to use on real guns. I have their 4.2" ITA red/green dot on my KWA SR7 and it's great. Sturdy and stable, holds zero even after rough handling, looks good.

Bang for the buck wise, the best sight I have is this generic one. It's a red / green cross hair and for $17 it's pretty amazing - no parallax problems, adjusts easily and keeps its settings, basically just does what it's supposed to.

I like reproduction sights for their looks, but a lot of them have issues like a dark sight picture, alignment problems, etc. Like the two EOTech clones I have work just well enough to be useful, but the picture is like looking through sunglasses, because that's a side effect of the cheap reflector technology they use. Neither of the sights I linked above have that problem. Inexpensive sights that are not designed for airsoft typically work better as actual sights, although obviously they don't look as cool.

u/paulwhite959 · 3 pointsr/guns

You really won't get a worthwhile one at 100; keep the current scope if that's all you can put towards it. Take the 100 you have now and add 10-20 bucks a month for a few months. If you can get to like 150-175 a vortex crossfire II or a Nikon Prostaff are OK.

Vortex: http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Optics-Crossfire-Riflescope-CF2-31007/dp/B00794LK18/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457328163&sr=8-2&keywords=vortex+crossfire+II

Redfield Revolution is OK at that price too: http://www.amazon.com/Redfield-67090-Revolution-3-9x40mm-4-Plex/dp/B0032KOSQW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457328234&sr=8-1&keywords=redfield+revolution

As it stands now, with only 100 dollars, you won't buy a better scope than it came with at all. You're better off not spending any money than spending 100.

I will say you get very significant jumps in quality going up to the mid 200s and then the ~350 range as well, but if those are just flat out of the budget, the three linked scopes are pretty much the only sub 200 dollar scopes I'd bother with at all on a centerfire.

u/iceman312 · 3 pointsr/guns

Look into 1-4x20(24) tubes. Here are some that are up your alley.

I'm afraid it doesn't get much better than this.

>From the feedback on this sub, it seems obvious the general community thinks I should just get a normal scope, pay a lot for it, and forget the style.

This community is generally driven by purpose rather than aesthetics. Rifles are mostly bought for their performance and not their looks. That isn't to say that style isn't important but there are limits.

The scope looks significantly better than what was in the picture and is extremely common on BB/Airsoft. I have no idea what you're talking about clarity. Of course, you're seeing the scope through a camera lense, but there is nothing that makes me think this scope is over $50.

I have a V-tac 1-4x20, which is also branded as a Centerpoint at Walmart and sporting goods stores.

If you want an inexpensive bipod (cheaper than a Harris), go with a Caldwell XLA in the height range you need. If you're shooting prone, go with a short one; sitting a taller one.

For a cheaper scope, I'd go up about 20 bucks and get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Crossfire-Rimfire-Reticle-CF2-31001R/dp/B00794LKMW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422678287&sr=8-2&keywords=vortex+crossfire+ii+2-7

Vortex has one of the best warranties in the industry. If you drop your gun and break the scope, they'll send you a new one. New, used, purchased through an unlicensed retailer, it doesn't matter- they will replace it.

need magnification.

there are plenty of bushnell, bsa and simmons scopes that should do the job just fine for 40-50. the bushnell banner for example. it wont have the clarity of a vortex, but they will hold up fine against a 22lr. they dont have the no question asked warranty that vortex does, but if its not user error, they will still replace it.

that said, if, when im ready to pull the trigger, the vortex goes down below $100, like it has before, ill go for it, cause it would definitely be a great scope with great clarity, and the parallax would be setup for the ranges id be shooting squirrels at(50-100)

I will tell you one thing, that UTG mount is crap but the Surefire-ripoff flashlight is actually really nice. It is a 150 lumen LED bulb from the same manufacturer and in the same size and style as Surefire. I would say that it is the same bulb actually used in a Surefire model except that I don't recall any Surefires in that size using anything over a 120 lumen bulb.

ANYHOW, what I am getting at is that that UTG crenelated flashlight is a nice little piece of weapon light. Get a good, offset light mount and mount that UTG and you will be in business.

Or, if you really feel the need to have a nice, name brand light, you can do what I did and take the bulb out of that UTG flashlight and drop it into an old, non-LED Surefire 6P or 6P defender. Again, it is the same size, style and manufacturer so you can just drop it in. The old 6Ps go for around 40-50 dollars. I picked up a non-LED defender for 47 bucks the other day and bam, 150 lumen LED surefire on the cheap.

As far as the actual mount goes, there is an offset one on Amazon for about ten bucks which is actually solid. Let's see... http://www.amazon.com/TACTICAL-JETBeam-JET-III-Diameter-Flashlight/dp/B002ZYRV2E/

As someone in the reviews mentions, it is probably made for an airsoft rifle or something along those lines, but it is definitely solid enough for actual use on a 5.56 AR. I bought one just to check it out, and I really have no issues with it. And I really tend to me completely unwilling to put knock-off brands on my rifles. I just can't justify paying the 30-50 dollars the name brands ask for a piece of plastic or metal to mount a light. Hell, I was looking at a Viking Tactics offset mount for 30 bucks and I honestly liked this cheap, 10 dollar mount better.

u/TomTheGeek · 2 pointsr/gundeals

A cantilever mount of some sort. A good budget option is Nikon P-Series rings.

This wouldn't be a terrible scope for an AR but I'd consider something a little bit smaller and lighter.

u/nreyes238 · 2 pointsr/ar15

The Diamondback that was mentioned in this thread would be great, but personally for a bench gun I really like the Primary arms 4-14x FFP scopes. They're a little more pricey but they're awesome. I use one on a benched AR10 and it's amazing for the price.

Some people also rave about the Athlon Argos: https://www.amazon.com/Athlon-Optics-Riflescope-Illuminated-Reticle/dp/B0157N4640

These are getting out of the price range, so you can look at the Burris Fullfield 2, which should be about 240 right now on sale: https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/burris-fullfield-ii-45-14-x-42-riflescope#repChildCatid=3294808

Outside of that, I think it's really hard to find anything in this price range that makes a good bench scope. Vortex makes a 6-24 Crossfire 2 (SFP) but I personally hated my Crossfire 2 scope and others complain about the clarity at higher mag. The Diamondback would be a little bit more bench oriented as it's heavier, has AO, drop reticle, and larger FOV.

There's a lightning deal at Amazon that might still be good, $60 for this Simmons rangefinder.

u/KnightOfCamelot · 2 pointsr/golf

i would recommend against getting anything with slope adjustment if you ever plan to use this in a competitive environment. i have this that i picked up at Dick's for $60 on a sale...works just fine!

i get the impression that a lot of these rangefinders do pretty much exactly the same thing, but brand names are what you are paying for... or gimmicks like "pin-finder" or slope adjustment.

It's probably pretty hit or miss with low-end optics. I have This UTG on my AR while I save up for an aimpoint/eotech/maybe an acog.

It holds zero, still works fine (lights randomly turn on sometimes when the batteries are in which is odd but not really a problem), and I've used it out to 300 yards successfully.

I'm new at this, but I just bought what I think is the Compact version of the same UTG 3-12x44 AO scope:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004KRA4YG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8

I like it so far. It's a little heavier than I was expecting, adding noticeably to the weight of the rifle. And it would be helpful if I could mount it further back, closer to my eye. I bought a 1-piece mount, so I can't slide it further back (the mount really only fits in 1 position on the scope).

The non-Compact version probably extends closer to your eye, so might be easier for mounting comfortably.

I am wondering if that 3-9x32 BugBuster might be a better fit for my needs. It's lighter, at least, and I don't think I need the 12x magnification. I was more interested in the larger objective, figuring that would let in more light, and I thought it provides benefits for eye relief as well.

u/Rariity · 2 pointsr/airguns

There are triggerlocks, but they don't fit on or between any triggerguard.

And I must ask, why such concerns? Do you got kids?

Gun safety is always a good idea, but if you don't cock your airgun, which just can't happen on accident, then it won't discharge or do anything. And carrying around your gun cocked and loaded is never a good idea and you shouldn't do that anyways.

I've never heard of a thing like a lock that prevents accidental cocking or something.

Only thing I can think of are old timey Walther rifles and the Weihrauch HW 35, which has a thumb lever you need to push in order to break the barrel.

Every Weihrauch and lots of other guns also have build in safeties that engage, once the gun is cocked and lock the trigger to prevent discharge.

And there are lots of attachments. Of course there are reflex sights and ACOG style sights as well. Only ACOG style sights I know cost more than 80€.

You can get reflex sights for 20, but those have a messy red dot that's so big, it will block your target at any range farther than 10m

I've only heard good about ^that^ UTG one.

Otherwise maybe a compensator or moderator for airguns. Both help a bit with accuracy and the moderator muffles the sound a bit.

A pre-installed mosfet/etu is the best you're gonna get for trigger response at a lower price. All the aftermarket drop-in mosfet/etu system are quite expensive relative to the price of that g&g r8-l.

I'm guessing the battery that it comes with is the 9.6v nimh? a 7.4v lipo will be far better for trigger response (at least as far as you can get with a small budget). Lipo batteries can be had for ~$10 each on hobbyking, and a basic smart charger will only cost you between $15-30, depending on what features you want.

The "scope" that it comes with is just a cheap red dot sight. You can find plenty of affordable and reliable red dot sights on Amazon or ali-express (example).

The bundle might be convenient, but it's definitely not the best route you should take.

Amazon reviews at bottom

u/SearingPhoenix · 1 pointr/Nerf

Copied from the album:

>Fantastic little light package. The reason I particularly like this kit is because the the flashlight houses its own charging circuit, so you just plug Micro USB in and you can charge it on the fly (off a phone charger), no need for something like a NiteCore charger.

>The overall size of this thing is tiny for how much light it puts out. It has three settings, with memory for the last one used when turned on, from 'blinding' to 'good enough' to 'decidedly dim, but bright enough to not trip over things'. I set it to the middle one. While it has a strobe mode, it's quite difficult to activate accidentally --requiring repeated rapid presses -- which is great for Nerf. I did have to pad the mount with a rubber band, as the flashlight is a smidge under the 1" diameter for the mount. That's fine, though, as it protects the finish of the flashlight from metal-on-metal contact. A polymer mount would be significantly lighter, and I might look to see if one is out there.

>The parts of this kit are as follows.:

>MagPul 5-slot MOE rail

>Off-set 1" Flashlight Picatinny Mount

>JetBeam EC-R16

The simmons is sufficient, but the extra $100 does buy a significantly sharper view. So I guess it depends on what your wallet likes. I would point you to the nicer glass, especially if you're practicing distance/bullseye shooting.

u/powerfulndn · 1 pointr/airguns

Hmm. I don't know that people really scope match rifles so I wouldn't recommend it personally. I guess it depends what you're planning to do with them but I'd scope the hw55 if they were mine. Even with in .177 you should be able to easily reach out to ~50 yards without heavy winds. For me it's still a toss up between the 3-9 and the 4-12, I have both and love them both. I really like my 4-12 though - even at close distances of 10-15 yards - because I like being able to zoom in and pick out my target. The 3-9 is more than enough for casual plinking though.

[3-9 Leapers UTG AO] (https://www.amazon.com/UTG-3-12X44-Compact-36-color-Mil-dot/dp/B004KRA4YG)
This is by far the best value with many premium features for about $100.

Just purely curious why you went with MRAD.

I know I want a 30x50 ffp scope, I think I want a Christmas tree style reticle. Not sure on the magnification.

I've only really shot a 308 ar10 athlon
6-24 FFP
at 100 yards. It was zeroed to 100 so there wasn't any hold over or adjustments needed.

And that seems like a good starter optic especially for the price.

But like I said I still really haven't figured the optic out.

u/wysoft · 1 pointr/ak47

I know that not everyone here has the scratch for top-dollar optics, and some others just like to play around with various types of optics and may not care if they're top of the line, so this may be of interest to some of you.

A while back I ordered what I thought might turn out to be a dud, the Centerpoint "Tactical" 1-4x20 illuminated scope - it had great reviews and was touted as a sleeper deal on several forums and Youtube videos, so I thought, what the hell?.

What I received turned out to be a pretty good bargain: a basic 1-4x illuminated scope that is at least on par with the quality of my older Primary Arms 1-4x, but in a lighter and smaller package. In fact the build quality exceeds the PA scope in several areas, notably crispness of elevation/windage adjustments, and the quality of the illuminated etched reticle, which unlike the PA 1-4x scope, does not "bloom" the entire glass on higher power settings. The scope even includes a nice, solid centilever mount that puts it smack dab at the perfect height for the majority of AR rifles.

I thought it was a nice enough scope that I ordered a couple more, even though I hadn't decided what to do with them yet.

https://www.amazon.com/Centerpoint-1-4x20-Offset-Picatinny-Reticle/dp/B00AL1Y2IY

While this is probably not something you would want on a SHTF type rifle, so far it has done the job as a basic 1-4x that's affordable enough ($60) to top off several different non-essential rifles.

So far I have one living on a Sig 522, and another that has fared well on a 20" A4 clone. I was curious about whether or not this scope could handle .308/7.62 NATO, and after reading a handful of reviews that confirmed that it would without problem, I decided to see if I could adapt one to use with my Zastava M77.

To pair up with the M77, I wanted to try one of the cheap copies of Midwest Industries mounts before I considered dropping big coin on the real thing. I already have a genuine MI Gen 1 rail mount and a Chinese copy of it, and I could hardly tell the difference between the two. So, I went ahead and ordered a Chinese copy of a similar MI product:

https://www.amazon.com/FIRECLUB-Arrival-Release-Aluminum-Platform/dp/B01N98AKCK

The reviews were not great but I smelled a lack of understanding in how the mount works or is meant to be used, so I said fuck it and ordered one. If it didn't work out I was only out $30. When I received the mount, I found it to be solidly built, though the latch mechanism is a bit grittier than the previous MI mount copy I had purchased on Amazon.

Most here probably know that the MI style mounts can be easily modified to clamp on to the Zastava rail, and that took me about 5 minutes to mill out with a cheap 1/4" end mill in a drill press. The mount then slid on and indexed on the lower rail of the mount.

However I also found that the threaded clamping stud was hitting the side of the side rail, and needed to be relieved until it was flush with the surrounding inner surface of the mount. Otherwise, the mount did not fully clamp down square and flat onto the side rail. I removed the threaded clamping stud and ground a flat section on a bench vise until it was flush when inserted. Another 5 minute job. The mount now slides on and clamps securely to the Zastava side rail.

With the scope installed in the mount, it sits a touch just to the right of the centerline - this may vary for each individual rifle. Peering through the scope on 1x, the reticle is directly above the front sight post, and appears to be centered, but this will possibly change once the scope is zeroed.

The scope rests far enough forward that relief is good at all magnificiation levels using the 8.5" version of the ACE modular stock.

Shown in the photos is the scope set to 1x with the reticule set to maximum red illumination - there is also a green setting which I prefer not to use.

UNFORTUNATELY - this combination did not work out with any other AK I tried it on - I tried it on Bulgarian, Russian, and Romanian variants, and on each one the rear housing of the scope hit the top cover and prevented the magnification from being adjusted. However as you can see it appears to be almost perfect on a Zastava AK.

All in all this appears to be a good way to top your Zastava rifle with a cheap 1-4x optic. If some of you are interested I'll post back in a couple of weeks once I've had a chance to get out the range and get zeroed, and to see if the optic holds up to .308/7.62 NATO. If it holds up to this cartridge fine, I would expect no issues on a 7.62x39 or 5.56 Zastava.

After some brief research, I'm not finding an inexpensive flashlight mount that would work. My solution would be to get a simple one like this: www.amazon.com/TACTICAL-Mount-JETBeam-Diameter-Flashlight/dp/B002ZYRV2E/

And then file/grind down the flat parts (where the screws go through) so it will clamp down on the slightly smaller middle section of the TN12. I see some reports that suggest this might work unaltered.

This is what I currently use on my Avalon right now... I enjoy it but wish it had a 1-4x instead.

This will probably be my next purchase. Always having 3x zoom isnt the best...

I have one on my budget PSA AR build. I mounted it and haven't had any problems. The mounting bolts/nuts feel cheap but the actual mount is sturdy.

I would probably spring for a nicer mount if you are building a high end AR or a long range precision type rifle, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a budget build or plinker.

There are a couple hundred amazon reviews: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/cr/B00DP26OUK/ref=mw_dp_cr

I got one of these. Haven't mounted the optic and shot with it yet but reviews are good and its hard to beat that price.

You can then buy any red dot sight(RDS) that fits that style of dovetail. I bought this one. I use it for sighting in the 200-250mm range depending on the lens. Best thing I ever bought for my DSLR setup. The Telrad would be way, way too heavy for a shoe mount. The setup listed above works just as well as my Telrad on my 12" Dob.

Edit Btw, if you order that rail from photosolve, order the dovetail adapter when you place it. I don't need it for that setup I listed, but you may for another RDS you find. From what I could see you could only get the adapter while purchasing the rail so it's better to have it than not be able to get it later.

Nah i don't own the Leupold. It was the optic i wanted but like oyu said, i think i had 30mm rings. They didn't have a mount for a Tikka t3 in stock so i didn't buy the Leupold. I ended up buying a vortex Diamondback HP https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HYRGTES/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is total shit. But it was cheap and I needed one. It works Ok..ish

u/p1xode · 1 pointr/airguns

Alright, good to hear I've got a chance.

Here is the mentioned $25 scope (which seems to have dropped in price). Maybe you could tell if it's "airgun rated". I sure as hell can't.

What optics do you have mounted on your gun? Seems like a year of shooting is durable enough for me at low enough prices.

u/NickLynch · 1 pointr/guns

The body of the light is too wide for the mount.

Here's the mount

The light is one that came in a 3 pack for $20 at Costco. They're pretty bright, and hold up alright.

I basically cut the clamp off. The part that hooks to the rail itself. Then I plan to weld/jb weld/epoxy the flashlight to it. I think it should work till I can afford something better.

I'll throw up a pic or two when it's done.

I ran one on my 5.56 AR for about a year till I sold it. I had to re-zero every 1000 rounds or so but it was never bad

u/vmann · 1 pointr/flashlight

I have the exact same light (XL-200) and I bought this. Makes a nice handle when not attached to a rail, and keeps it from rolling around. Fits nicely around the smooth part near the battery opening.

no clue how good this thing is but maybe worth a shot!

Well sheeeet. Not a raptor, just a 1-6 ACSS that’s a SFP by primary arms. Have had it in my cart for a while thinking it’s a raptor. Whoops

1. Yes
2. Rings are https://www.amazon.com/CCOP-MNT-1516-Profile-AR-ArmourTac-Picatinny/dp/B00DP26OUK
Scope is a Vortex crossfire 2
3. Yeppers
4. Yes, same ammo, same batch, bad grouping. Tried different ammo, same result.
*5. Even tested with a shooter who regularly removes groundhogs at 1500yds, bad grouping.

I can garauntee you the fault is nowhere but the scope or the scope mount. The scope mount is cheaper, but holds the scope solid and is at proper torque.

I've had some decent luck with the A5 - plus it takes video, so you sort of avoid the reset time.

Most of the people who complain about these universal tools couldn't figure out simple things like having to flip the slide around to use the beveled side of the pusher when putting the sight back on.

This is the scope and I really love the bipod 1” grouping about 250-300 yards need to find more space to shoot.
