Start recording her life. Make home videos for the next generation. Take pictures of her. Most of all learn about her. Make use of the time left and when she's gone, take some time to grieve. The best thing you can do is to be supportive of him. You'll make it through this, even though sometimes that will seem hard to believe.

Also, All About Me is a neat book that you could give her to fill out - it asks all kinds of questions from the silly (what's your favorite color) to personal ones (what's your best childhood memory).

Best of luck to you in the times to come.

I am responding to this because writing is part of my healing toolbox, and something I've found immensely helpful.

First, there is a difference between writing and sharing your writing. The first can be healing, if (as you seem to imply) is a medium that feels safe. The second could be very triggering, and even retraumatizing if done with the wrong people.

I have used writing a lot in my therapy work for the past year or so. My first trauma history was given to a T as a written document. What I could not say, I could write.
I now have permission to email my current T, a privilege I try not to abuse. In sessions I share journals, or dream journals or printouts with her, these written words are often the starting point of our sessions.

But even if writing is healing for you, there are some precautions you need to take. Here are my favorite ones:

  1. Make sure writing is not obsessive, that it doesn't seep into time you must devote to other tasks (your job/studies/personal self-care/chores), because then it's not helpful, it's just more trauma re-enactment. Timing yourself and setting a time aside is a good way to do that. Also, writing is amazing, but it's no substitute for interacting with others face to face (if you are able or even interested in doing that), for doing physical activity, or mindfulness.
  2. Make sure you don't overwhelm yourself with traumatic memories. The 20 minute limit that some recommend (Pennebaker, for instance) does a good job at doing this. Take days off from writing too.
  3. Write in a way that is more than venting. Try to use writing to explore your feelings, the implications or thought process behind your reactions. Then it can become really an avenue for personal growth. (That's why, and I really mean no judgment in saying this, but I personally don't find most raisedby subs very helpful for me at this point in my recovery. They were more helpful initially as I was learning to call abuse with its proper name, but now, I need to move beyond the venting).
  4. As healing as writing can be, it's no replacement for therapy. You can achieve tremendous insights in writing, but the right therapist will help you turn those insights into permanent cognitive change. Also, writing addresses the verbal and the emotional levels of trauma but does little to address the somatic one, and trauma is often stored in the body.

Lastly, here's a book I found very helpful:

I loved The First 1000 Days (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/157061508X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487557675&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=the+first+1000+days&dpPl=1&dpID=51tPxxT74qL&ref=plSrch) for my first. Lots of writing and beautiful woodcut illustrations. I bought something a little more traditional for my second baby, who just arrived. Not as much time to write anymore but I really treasure the journal I did for baby #1! I'm still filling in a page each month until he turns two next month. It's a do-able amount, any more and I'd probably be too overwhelmed to write!

There are journals that have questions about life and your childhood, and what are you doing. I got one for my grandma when I was 12ish? I forgot about it until she died about 10 years ago and I found it. She had filled about half of it in. It was fun. Questions like, "What was your favorite thing to do as a kid?" "Tell me a story about when you got in trouble at school". I forget the name of the journal, but I found this:
https://www.amazon.com/Q-Day-Moms-5-Year-Journal/dp/0553448218/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=W8P01MNRT027CRH2T7SW

I kind of want to do that for my kids now.

EDIT to add: I'm sure there is a dad one if you're a dad :)

I love postcards :D And fetish levels of stationary.. Wait i'll see if my fave one is on amazon...

The brand is Whitelines and it makes all sorts of notepads and things with greyish paper and the guidelines are printed in white. For me this is beyond excellent because the regular white paper with grey guides can make my eyes hurt a lot in artificial light. :)

Aphrodite-Walking stinks! :D in a good way

I wish I had done something like this with my Mom before she died. I think it would have been fun to interview her and have a video of her telling the stories rather then a book.

All About Me: The Story of Your Life: Guided Journal https://www.amazon.com/dp/076790205X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Yd3UDbMQGW748

I'm sorry that you and family are going through this, it's rough.

u/_Enter_Player_3_ · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

I was indecisive so got As You Grow - which looked like more keepsake book, The Baby Book - think this one is a bit more fun possibly (I really enjoyed the Belly Book), and Q&A a Day for Moms. The first and third book you can get at Target online and use the 15% off registry completion discount on them.

A DBT therapist told me about this book after I asked her a similar question. I have yet to pick it up: All About Me: The Story of Your Life https://www.amazon.com/dp/076790205X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_giv8yb5GK5D4Y

u/summer-swelter · 2 pointsr/JordanPeterson

For me it wasn't. The format was too annoying to bother with on a website I couldn't see myself ever wanting to return to.

I bought and read the book he based the concept on and have been journaling using some of its ideas ever since. That's been extremely useful.

Reading the research and data in the book was a huge motivator for me too.

u/SoISew · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

This book is the one I have for my son, it is sooooo great.

u/HugeMacaron · 2 pointsr/BipolarReddit

My therapist recommended that I start writing for 15 minutes a day about whatever is in my head. There's a book about the process if you're interested, but I haven't read it yet. I've been doing it for two weeks and I've had a marked reduction in both suicidal ideation and psychotic thoughts/hallucinations. I've found writing by hand is better than typing, and it works best when I write with no specific purpose - just without interruptions for 15 minutes. I've started shredding them after I finish so I don't have to worry about someone finding them. I don't know if it would work for you, but I would recommend giving it a shot.

Bullet journaling is very therapeutic and requires very few items. (Bullet journal, stencils, pens/colors, and stickers) all can be bought on amazon for under $20 or can get most of the supplies at dollar tree. Amazon has many great bullet journals for under $6. It helps you get your thoughts together and can feel empowering as it gets you more in tune with your thoughts and habits. my bullet journal but if you search bullet journals they have them with so many different pretty covers. This is also the size of a regular notebook as I like to make my things big.
journal stickers these stickers are my favorite as they are empowering and cheap. But I also buy stickers from dollar tree and michaels (michaels has washi tape for .33 each and sales on the tape and stickers all the time)

Cross stitch or crochet is another great craft to learn that doesn’t cost a lot or need a ton of supplies.

Diamond painting kits look like fun and get great reviews.

Scrapbooking can be a lot of fun and remind you of happy times but is more costly and uses more materials than the others.

Adult coloring books are my favorite art stress reliever; you can get a cute book for under $7 and then whatever coloring medium you prefer (I love crayons) my favorite coloring book

2nd favorite coloring book

I hope these ideas help and ask any questions you may have. 💕💕💕

u/freyascats · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

I have 2... the one I’ve used the most and which has turned into more of a journal for me (though written with the idea that my kid will read it when he’s older too) is The First 1000 Days (and it happens to be like 50% off on amazon when I got that link). And then I have a more classic fill in the blank style one that at 19 months post partum I’m finally really getting around to filling in - This is your book. I’ve never journaled before this but for whatever reason I feel compelled to capture tons of notes /stories/data about my kiddo, so I’ve gotten into having both of these. My only complaint about either is that the This is your book one has tons and tons of pages for stuff I don’t care about- like weird facts about countries around the world and stuff... but I figure I’ll just use the dumber pages to put in more photos and memorabilia

My best friend got me a pack of Penguin Classics cover post cards for Christmas last year. If you like those covers, it's worth the measly 10 or so bucks.

I love Nikki McClure's artwork and I just found out that she has a pregnancy journal and a baby journal out! I'm seriously considering buying them both now because they look absolutely lovely and I don't want them to go out of print before it's my turn!

Personally, my go-to leadership books are The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and The 5 Levels of Leadership both by John C Maxwell.

Here are a few thoughts:
Banned Books bracelet
Monogrammed stationery set
*Penguin book cover postcards

No matter what, definitely write a detailed handwritten thank you card or letter.

I have one of these. I love it- small and convenient.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/CautiousBB

It's amazing... I too LOVE to record things. It has spots for like what events happened each month and what movies you watched. What was your craving this month vs adversion. I really love it.

Here is The Belly Book.

And The Baby Book. This I'm going to get after babe is born for his/her first year because I love The Belly Book so much. AND plus side is they aren't super expensive either.

To become a better person takes intentionality, meaning you have to make a decision to make a change every time something new and unwholesome presents itself to you regarding yourself. The Bible is certainly a plumb line on major things to do to become a better person, but it's also full of pictures of individuals who showed the way for being amazing people.

I've found that the more I study leadership, psychology, emotional intelligence, etc., the more I see a blue print for it in the Bible, in particular, demonstrated by Christ himself.

If you want to be the best version of yourself, study servant-based leadership. Jesus was a servant leader. The apostles learned from Jesus how to be servant leaders. Servant leadership is the mortal granularity that made the gospel so transformative and helped it spread like a wildfire. If you are essentially having to "sell" a new religious belief system in the 1st century, you've got to be able to believe the salesman as well as the integrity of the product, right? The product is salvation and the sales pitch is a new way of walking in freedom and living a wholesome, abundant life. Christ's leadership model did just that.

If you want some good reads on leadership, check these out, and then read the new testament chapter by chapter and verse by verse. Keep in mind, you don't need a title or position to be a leader -- that's what servant leadership is all about.

The art is kinda hippy dippy (block prints), but the prompts are vague and I said f*ck it to the month guides...the lack of cartoony characters made it worth it for me.

There’s no good place for ultrasounds...I’m just pasting them over the prompts I don’t like.

u/letsgogaels · 1 pointr/ArtJournaling

Sorry for not directly addressing your question - but a few years ago I was thinking about doing this. I ended up getting stuck on finding my preferred translation, so that might be a key starting place.... NIV, KJ, NKJ, NSB... etc... If these letters mean nothing to you, just get a look at her most used Bible... And then there’s the font size issue... (I hope I’m not complicating things more for you. These were just things I considered.) Most of these types of Bibles were not large print I think, which may or may not matter. Just thought I’d mention it.

I’d suggest going to Amazon and looking at reviews. People will post pictures of their Bible art and so you can get a sense of the paper quality while also considering what people say here.

I think these two are the most popular. I actually bought both, and ended up giving them as gifts as they weren’t what I wanted. And then I just ended up realizing that it was too much pressure for me.

I hope you find something! It’s a wonderful, thoughtful gift idea.

Beautiful Word

This one has pre-printed verses that can be colored and then blank margins where one can create their own.

Journaling Bible
I think this one is more for note-taking, not necessarily art work. Cream pages.

I like to write to my kids. They have baby books, one that isn't cumbersome and places to tape a monthly photo and some other milestones. Nothing too crazy. But in conjunction to their baby books, I write to them.

I have been writing in Sacred Motherhood and I love it. It is definitely a specific type of journaling, though, and not for everyone. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1623170044/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hzyLBb1RKSP7Q

For actual baby milestones and stuff, I used My Baby Book and have gifted it to every single pregnant friend I've had. I also have My Birthday Book and My Belly Book because I love their series so much. https://www.amazon.com/dp/030746542X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_pyyLBbVF8V2M6

u/alwaystryharder · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

I absolutely adore the books from Amy Rosenthal... She has smart, witty, fun and still cute baby books.

We bought My Belly Book for pregnancy, My Baby Book for when baby is born and will buy Your Birthday Book.

She makes a big sibling book too, which is adorable. As well as a grandparents book. Honestly, I really love her books, can you tell?

Edit: I also wanted to include that a while back I saw on pinterest a concept called a family yearbook. Every year you capture pictures, fun things you did, funny things that happened/were said etc and at the end of the year you can collect them all as a Family Yearbook. Put funny sentiments in there, fun things that happened... Etc. I love Photo books too so I've found several that aren't bad like one on Mixbook.
