You can get a couple of these and these won't run out of power.

Thanks for the recommendation! That's a good & cheap idea.

Yeah, I am a packraft 2nd kinda guy. Only use it on lakes & slow moving rivers because it's cheap (Klymit LWD)...and I don't know how to handle any rapids.

I'm thinking this might be a good option: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YFPS7OC/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
It's only 2oz heavier than the one you posted, but the downside is it seems like it'll be a bit bulkier

The primary differences are weight and shape.

For weight: Imagine lifting a 50 pound weight 10 times, or lifting a 25 pound weight 10 times. You'd be a lot less tired with the 25 pound weight, right?

Now imagine lifting a 2.5 pound paddle 10,000 times, and lifting a 1.5 pound paddle 10,000 times. Though the weight difference is small, it makes a difference on long trips. That's why people who do long distance touring pay hundreds for super-light paddles. If you're not planning on long trips, it doesn't matter as much.

As for shape... look at the shape of these $10 paddles vs these $200 paddles. But shape doesn't correspond to price, and $50 paddles have roughly the same shape as $500 paddles, just don't get some flat ones and you'll be alright.

I own a $10 paddle, a $50 paddle, and a $150 paddle. The $10 paddle is worthless and terrible. There $150 paddle is only a little nicer than the $50 paddle. The expensive one is lighter, but with most of my trips, I'm not out long enough for the weight to make a difference.

> I wouldn't paddle a paddle that's using tape to hold it together. If it breaks during your trip, you won't be happy about paddling back with a broken paddle.

That was the main reason we started looking at paddles to begin with. In the end, we decided to get both of us new paddles. We got 2 of these. I got the orange one and my wife got the blue one. We haven't received them yet (my orange one was Prime but for some reason the blue one isn't) and we're planning on doing a ~9 mile paddle on Saturday. This will be our second trip we've taken since getting them and the longest.

That's the paddle I have and it's awesome. $67.

I bought my father in law and brother in law stohlquist kayaking pfds and they are solid. They look great and are extremely high quality. I know the fisherman pfd is expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I don't know if I'm too late (I really hope I'm not) 50-60 is right at the lower end of fiberglass which is just a million times better than aluminum. Look on amazon or craigslist and find something better than that (no offense) crap.

They're fiberglass 250cm paddles. My kayak is 36" wide and slow so I needed to go bigger than the 230 cm I had originally

60cm and 23.6 oz. I've used this paddle for ~20 miles with success.

That is the one I got, and I am very pleased with it, and it is not much more money than the Tripper that you are looking at. I got it 50% off when I bought my Yak, but you should get a comparable deal at this time of year at any of your local shops.

I think I'm with Shmuck; you should take a single oar, rather than a paddle.

Here are two options:

Both are cheap and lighter than the "light" kayaking paddles...

Maybe look for a 4 piece break down paddle and leave a piece out? Or an adjustable that might scale small enough. My kids are under 5 feet and fine with our adjustables, even though they may not be a perfect fit. Can’t vouch for it, but a quick search cane up with this.
SUP Paddle

I can’t tell from the picture if leaving a section out would be possible, though, if you even needed to.

I thought this one looked good.

You'll want something around 210-220cm. The 84 inch one here should work fine.

SeaSense X-TREME II Kayak Paddle, 84-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001J17VY2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_G6bRzb3Y4SXF4

Edit: mine shows prime eligible

Check out the Seattle Sports Seawhisper. It's right around $100 for the 230-240cm model, but it's quite nice for the price.

You may also want to keep an eye on your local Craigslist, as many people tend to sell kayaks and accessories for cheap in the winter. I scored an Adventure Technology Quest Glass for $60 last year.
