You can make your own with this

Edit: Here is an example made by u/Tylerlgilbert

u/s0me0neUdontknow · 143 pointsr/cats

My tuxedo does this, so we got him a robot fish. Sometimes we fill the tub just enough for him and his fish.

Edit: Don't know how to make videos, and not really comfortable putting us on the internet like that. Sorry, folks. But you can get the (robot fish)[www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DK25JMO] on Amazon. They also have a shark. They swim by clicking their tails, which will make your cat come running from across the house. You can leave them alone in the tub for about ten minutes. If kitty is still playing, pick up the fish and drop it back in to reactivate. If not, you'll want to keep it inside a cabinet to prevent kitty from running off with it when you're not looking.

Edit 2: I don't know what I did wrong with the format. Whatever. Those are the links. /shrug

I think it's this one. If it is, it's a Japanese import https://www.amazon.com/Ost-Mimicry-Talking-Mame-Shiba/dp/B01EWISM00

Here is the one I am using. I also have a handmade shop on Amazon if anyone is interested. Also, I am happy to provide the DWG files for this design- I cut out all the pieces on my cnc machine.

Looks like the Air Hogs one, a guy at my work has one.

It's stable, easy to fly, and really durable, as you'd expect from Air Hogs (a toy manufacturer). But it has a strange random yaw as I flew it around, I had to counteract it in either direction (i.e. not something able to trim out). I don't see any references to this in the Amazon comments though, so I'm not sure if this is just an isolated case.

Would not recommend as a serious hobby quadcopter due to the yaw issue, but would absolutely recommend to a little kid or a Star Wars fan.

u/NYSenseOfHumor · 11 pointsr/suspiciouslyspecific

Bop it is apparently still a thing.

A drum set or wind instrument are good choices, they “teach” the kid music.

Or the Despicable Me 3 Fart Blaster

Preschool teacher here!

Expensive STEM stuff -- I've worked with all of them. If I had to get one, I'd probably do Osmo.

Bee bots

Dot and Dash

Cubetto

Osmo

---------

Other Manipulatives and Toys:

Reptangles - I found these at Savers and my students are super in to them right now.

Snap Circuits

Ikea Cars (not really stem but fun and high quality)

Mobilos -- can create cars but also so many other things

Marble runs of any style

"Pattern Play" Blocks -- We have these but I don't have the instructions, but kids still end up making fun designs out of them!

BIG Waffle Blocks

Architectural blocks sets -- for example

------

I have a major soft spot for board games (and related) at this age. Here are a few I love.

Animal Upon Animal

The Little Orchard

Count Your Chickens

Snug as a Bug in a Rug

Snail's Pace Race

Rivers, Roads, and Rails

-----

Ultimately, though, your focus should be on having fun! Your 3 year old does not need to be reading and writing or doing basic math. He should be learning to play cooperatively, self regulate, and be independent. I would focus on language skills and his ability to communicate effectively and understand directions. I teach Pre-K (currently 5 year olds about to go into Kindergarten) and I do not care at all whether they can write their names or do simple math.

u/Thumper13 · 8 pointsr/StarWars

They are the same. These change color. Both are the Luke/Anakin hilt.

They are permanently attached to the mounting plate and about half to a third the size of a regular lightsaber. My problem with them is that they are battery only, and they only stay on for like 15 minutes.

BTW it's this: http://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Milton-Star-Lightsaber-Light/dp/B00339QX6A

$71 dollars with shipping, what a bummer.

Sorry, I know this is a nice controller, but the 8bitdo SNES controller is $31 cheaper (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WRZ6JB/).

It's not like 8bitdo is some gigantic monolith of a manufacturer, either.

I welcome the competition, but I'm gonna sit this one out for a bit.

My son is 14 months and at that age loved (and still loves) balls, books, his remote control and take along tunes. This activity table is also awesome.

The Meets* x Sanrio Characters (has hello kitty) CAN connect to the other Meets or Ons (On is the ENG ver)!

Make sure you get her the Meets, not the M!X. It should have a release date of 2019!

I highly suggest Amazon JPN for under-a-week delivery with an amazon discount & base shipping price of ~$10, but if you’re against Amazon then other stores like JapanYouWant (I think $15 shipping, depends on your location) or EBay (prices are either hiked up or have shipping prices as high as $20) are just as fine. Those take about 2 weeks-ish, depending.

There are a few things. First strongly consider the new NES Classic mini system coming out. It has HDMI out and classic Nintendo games. https://www.nintendo.com/nes-classic

Secondly most Retro game consoles like SNES/N64 have composite out as well with the red/white/yellow cable. You can plug these into a modern HDTV by putting the yellow cable into the Green component plug (if you don't have a yellow hook up).

Also there are several Controllers out there that have emulators built in so you plug it into a PC and can load games.

Also some of these might be good, plug and play arcade stick games. They are fairly cheap fun so if they get destroyed it's not the end of the world. https://www.amazon.com/Pac-Man-Connect-Play-Classic-Games/dp/B0104G9K4Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1469453739&sr=1-1

Ones like this too: https://www.amazon.com/Sega-Genesis-AtGames-Classic-Game-Console/dp/B0111WVVLM/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1469453848&sr=1-1&keywords=at+games+genesis

Good riddance . The board game is terrible.

Should have bought the handheld game for sentimental sake instead

u/Gecko23 · 2 pointsr/arduino

The only reason the part list is so long is because he imbedded the MC on the board so it's self contained. You could just as easily skip that and just wire it to an external Arduino Uno or such.

If you really are intimidated by resistors, and/or programming, then you'll just have to buy one pre made.

u/Saihyou · 2 pointsr/nosurf

Yeah the concert I went to was filled with people holding up their phones recording instead of living in the moment. I know to some degree people did in the past too but it felt like a much larger ratio.

I really enjoy how Japanese concerts do things as there's often organized fan chants and waving around pen lights in patterns to the music instead of just holding up a phone.

Toy cellphones also remain popular, AND spares my cellphone from their wrath: https://www.amazon.com/VTech-Touch-Swipe-Baby-Phone/dp/B00HLAN5GS

IKEA has a pop up play tent and crawl tube (BUSA) that terrified them when we first set them up at 12 months, but now at 14 months they're a favorite and will probably last for quite a while.

Are you on Instagram? A lot of TVIs (teachers of the visually impaired) share their ideas there for tactile games, books, etc. A lot of them make stuff on their own.

Here are a few to get you started: [@mrsbyrnetvi] (https://www.instagram.com/mrsbyrnetvi/), [@youvegotbraillellc] (https://www.instagram.com/youvegotbraillellc/) and [@whyeyeteach] (https://www.instagram.com/whyeyeteach/).

There's also [@paths.to.literacy] (https://www.instagram.com/Paths.To.Literacy/), which often has good ideas. And the [#TeacherOfTheVisuallyImpaired] (https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/teacherofthevisuallyimpaired/) hashtag.

And one actual idea - do you have [Bop It] (https://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Gaming-B7428-Bop-It-Board/dp/B01ALHAJ20/ref=pd_sbs_21_t_0/130-6949372-7702505?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01ALHAJ20&pd_rd_r=560ae70e-d06f-4203-9083-1a857e9870cc&pd_rd_w=BXIov&pd_rd_wg=aT22T&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=69JD80YKQT0FZ749RABH&psc=1&refRID=69JD80YKQT0FZ749RABH) in your country? It's an electronic game with buttons and levers that gives you commands (e.g., "pull it," "push it," etc.). He may enjoy that...

I got these for my niece and nephew and they seem to enjoy it a lot. (Dash). I like mindstorms a lot too, but it might be more advance for 3 and 5 years old.

u/RickAgavemeupAMA · 2 pointsr/himynameisjay

The racers with the good motors like that sound crazy. I have a Syma X11c too but it's not powerful like that.

I really want one of these.

And this.

u/nmmb · 2 pointsr/Parenting

Both my kids loved a play table like [this] (https://smile.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Around-Learning/dp/B01ASVCTIG/ref=sr_1_7?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1479498352&sr=1-7&keywords=fisher+price+door) around age 1. They still played with them at 2.

I would also recommend books. You can write a nice massage on the inside cover. It is a nice keepsake.

u/yosoybillbrasky · 2 pointsr/sandiego

I found a video on YouTube of some guy who did a pseudo teardown on one of these. They aren't too complicated and not 100% sealed with epoxy. Should be easy to fix.

If it can't be fixed you could order another one from Amazon for $15 and just take the electronics out of your son's scout, setup the new scout like the old, and then transplant the new scout's electronics into the old scout, and non-the-wiser. IMO this may be the better way to start with, because then you get all new electronics, buttons and LED and it's still the "same" scout on the outside to your son. Only downside is a possible ethics debate about plush-toy organ-harvesting :P

I'm free most this weekend so PM if you're interested and can meet in PB.

u/ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL · 1 pointr/AskOldPeople

There were quite a few of them. The really awesome ones were the little table top games that looked like tiny shrunken down arcade cabinets. They made Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Centipede, and a few others that I can't recall right now.

The most popular one, though, was Mattel Electronic Football. You can actually buy a knockoff reissue of it today. To this day, I could play that for hours.

u/emeraldeyes · 1 pointr/Parenting

For my daughter, one of the presents we got her for her first birthday is LeapFrog's "Violet", which is a stuffed animal (dog) that plays music and has interactive activities. It comes with a USB cord to hook up to your computer to program it with your child's name, pick your songs, favorite food and color and track how your child uses the toy. When you turn it on, it will say "Hi Sam!" or whatever the child's name is and use the name in songs and other speaking interactions. It's really very cool and my daughter, who just recently turned 2, still loves her. It's some of the best $20 we ever spent.

There's a boy version called "Scout". We got it as a gift for our friends' one year old boy and he loved his as well. And we got it for him specifically because we knew how much our daughter loved hers.

Here's a link to the item: http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-19156-My-Pal-Scout/dp/B001W30D2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319126816&sr=8-1

When you say he gets really dirty ... what sort of dirt are we talking about? Poo?

Now, regarding water...start with a brush and wet bath cloth, give plenty of treats and compliments at every step. Work up from there. Do you have a large bowl that you can leave out and get him used to seeing it? Maybe fill it with water and let him play with some battery fishes in there. I got mine something similar to this just to play with. After a while, they forgot they hated water ...

u/lolly_lag · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

If they don't already have one of the Viva Pinata games consider that! They're so cute and definitely spark some imagination!

For Rylee, my first thought was graphic novels if she's never tried them. My cousin loved A Wrinkle in Time even though he'd already read the book. Ghosts is very popular, too.

For Trinity, my first thought was a Bop It for some reason! Or maybe this gymnastics coloring book?

u/thouartmorelovely · 1 pointr/AMA

She has done coding with Scratch, Microbit, and Minecraft. She has made a balloon and other pictures through coding as well. She has created a Minecraft rollercoaster type park on her desktop while using her laptop side by side to get on the instructional videos from youtube, so she's good about learning stuff online by herself.

She has a one on one tech teacher who gives her three hour lessons once a week. She knows how to put together a basic kiddie computer, which means she's already better than I am tech wise. lol. I think she has a good intro to tech so far.

Her main interest is chemistry though. She wants to blow stuff up but I don't think she's ready for that yet. But tech is probably a close second as she spends all of her free time in front of the computer. Unlike most parents, I let her have unlimited internet access. Her spoken english is of an 11 yo even tho she's only 7.

Is it possible to combine chemistry with tech?

As far as math, she has already mastered addition, subtraction, and multiplication (3 digits times 3 digits). Her has done division, fractions, and the number line. I'm probably going to teach complex division and fractions during Christmas break. Not bad for a kid who started grade 2 a couple of months ago.

She has already used Dash by manually operating it using her ipad and coding his movement, so she already has a rudimentary intro on what a robot is about. https://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Workshop-Dash-Activated-Programming/dp/B00SKURVKY/ref=sr_1_6?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1539117016&sr=1-6&keywords=robots+for+kids

27+2 and mostly finished the nursery for our baby boy. We don't really have a theme, but my husband LOVES Calvin and Hobbes and we kind of incorporated some of our favourite things throughout (like Disney, Star Wars, and Super Heroes). The crib, rocker and dresser were all free hand-me-downs! The only thing we are still wanting to add is a small clothes hamper, an Ubbi diaper pail and a sling bookshelf where the bassinet is currently (the bassinet will be moved into our room when baby comes).

Top 5 that $ can buy (CAN links):

  1. Halcent Floating Bookshelves

  2. Fisher Price Soothing Motions Bassinet - I ended up getting this used (but basically brand new) off Facebook Marketplace for $80!

  3. Wayfair Little Jewel Changing Table - I can't link to it currently because it's out of stock, but this was sturdy, looks nice and is easy to put together.

  4. Calvin and Hobbes Vinyl Wall Decor - This shipped from overseas and took forever! It also comes in several peices and was pretty hard to install (it took us hours) but once we followed the instructions and got the hang of the technique, it went pretty smoothly and we love how it turned out!

  5. Lightsaber - My husband actually got this as a gag gift a few Christmases ago. (It's not bright enough to actually do nighttime diaper changes, but it's a cool nightlight) and Star Wars Prints.

All the prints were actually from small Etsy shops. I ordered the types that you can download and print yourself! All the frames were super cheap IKEA frames. The blackout curtains are from Walmart, but we've had them for years and just repurposed them. If you see any other items you want to know about, ask me. :)

Our top faves that money can't buy:

  6. Stuffies - all either ours when we were babies/kids or purchased on our trips to Disneyland with our future kiddo in mind.

  7. Winnie the Pooh books - I found these for $1 each at an estate sale 5 years ago and always pictured them in a nursery. They were published in 1925.

  8. Crocheted Blanket - this was my husband's baby blanket made by his late grandmother.

  9. Truck Piggy Bank, Hand Turned Lamp and Dresser - my late grandfather (who we are naming our baby after) was an amazing hobby woodworker and built all these peices, they've been handed out through my family for generation!

I made these sweet Manzanita Tree Centerpieces. I bought Manzanita branches, dried them in the sun, painstakingly peeled each and every tiny branch, painted each tree, then potted each tree, adding sparkly lights, pebbles and moss to the base of each tree. They're quite nice!

Ring size 7.5!

I could really use this Fake TV Remote Baby Toy so my son will stop chewing on our real remote. He figured out how to turn the xbox, ps3, tv and sound system on and off last month and it's been unpleasant ever since.

u/dontcryferguson · 1 pointr/cats

We got this Hexbug for our cat.
He will play with it ofr 10-15 minutes at a time, though has to be in the "mood" to play.

You should also be playing with a wand toy, such as Da Bird or the Cat Dancer for at least 15 minutes a day to give her an outlet and bond with you.

I have this model:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WRBK7Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Firmware says it is 4.10 whereas the latest version on the website says 4.02. These controllers were just released like a week ago which I assume is why they have a more recent version of the firmware.
