After traveling to Japan a couple of times I just couldn't go back to scraping my ass with dry paper like a filthy animal. I felt like a third-world savage using restrooms in Japan and reflecting on my own caveman-esque civilization back home. I bought a smart-toilet seat / bidet the second I got home. 250 dollars and the thing has a heated seat, press a button and it sprays you clean, oscillating function... You can adjust the water temperature and water pressure. Anywhere from a spittle to glorious paint-stripping power. The whole process is indescribably more comfortable and more hygienic. For the first couple weeks I'd give it one wipe afterwards to make sure there was no residual poo left in the area but it gets the job done EVERY SINGLE TIME. Without fail. The seat also has a drying function so I haven't used a single piece of toilet paper in months. If you don't have a couple hundred dollars to splurge on a high-tech life-changing toilet seat you can buy an attachment that is like the kitchen sink sprayer. I learned to use those in Thailand. I call it the ass-blaster. It isn't powerful enough to completely clean you but it severely reduces the amount of paper you need to use. The mix of water / paper is just so much cleaner. Think about it this way; if someone smeared poo on your arm, you wouldn't just scrape away at it with a dry piece of paper and call it clean.
EDIT: This is the model I bought if anyone is interested. Bio Bidet BB-600. I have friends who bought this same model and are happy with it as well. Toto is the gold-standard if you want to spend a little more. Happy to answer any further question in my quest to proselytize the paper-scrapers of the world and save the Canadian forests.
Fancy toilet. Heated Seat, water spray for front and back, dryer...holy god I would have paid 5x the price (around 500 bucks). So worth it.
Edit: The link to the product we bought. http://www.amazon.com/Brondell-S1000-EW-Advanced-Elongated-Toilet/dp/B0045UB9GK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1345832488&sr=8-7&keywords=bidet+toilet+seat
Get one of these. It took my husband and I six years to get one. I don't know why we waited so long. They're not that hard to put in, and if your complex is managed you can probably get a maintenance person to install it for you!
You can get a pretty amazing detachable shower head for $25. This is the one I got on Amazon. It's totally worth spending $25 to up your shower experience and make sure you pressure wash your butthole. I like the occasional rimjob and I will reciprocate, but I want to make sure that butthole is clean. This gets the job done.
They seem foreign and difficult to use (especially the european/muslim style which is basically just a faucet/hose for manual washing in a separate basin).
But then I spent two weeks in Japan and the Toto Washlet is my new god. It's a bidet done right - anything less is uncivilized. And I think they could become very popular in America, because they're so easy and accessible and added on to existing toilets.)
Also - there are ones with dryers baked in: http://smile.amazon.com/Brondell-S1000-EW-Advanced-Elongated-Toilet/dp/B0045UB9GK/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1415205898&sr=8-20&keywords=toto+washlet
I had the dilemma, after research we went with one with a heated seat and that has a resevior that heats the water up. No need to circulate water. I grabbed it on sale last year for $280. Best purchase ever. We both agree if there was any one tech we had to take with us - it was the bidet. We hate going to the bathroom anywhere but home

Added to my shower head after the fact!
I got an AquaBliss shower filter off of Amazon. It’s like $34 and really helped fix my hair. You can find my pre-filter hair after my move to Colorado in my post history.
I sleep with a humidifier too! I don’t know if that makes a difference, though!
They rock. I just installed this in my home and I love it:
http://amzn.com/B00JG3NVG2
I'm an American, and I always thought it was some weird foreign thing. Then I visited Japan and used one for the first time. AMAZING. Now I hate it when one's not available. So I just purchased two of those bad boys for my home. Amazingly clean every time, just use a couple of sheets of TP to dry off and you're on your way.
Seriously, get one. You'll wonder why it took you so long to convert. There are cheaper models by that same brand, also highly rated. I just wanted all the bells and whistles (hot+cold, retractable, self-cleaning, etc).
EDIT: It will also pay for itself pretty quickly when you consider how much less TP and baby wipes you'll need. I've had these for about a month, and my TP usage has gone down to about 1/4th what it was.
You can get pricier ones that will heat the water. Like this one, will heat the water, has a seat warmer and and warm air dryer. So basically you could be in a tundra, but your ass will be in a warm tropical oasis.
The cheaper models will just connect to your regular water line (either both the hot and cold line or just the cold) so you'd be SOL. But wouldn't a spray of freezing water up your ol' bumhole be just the pick me up you need to get you going in the morning?
The EPA allows chlorine levels up to 4ppm (parts per million) in tap water. However, a normal swimming pool is at around this level. Most water is much lower. As a gas, chlorine becomes detectable at around 3ppm. At 30ppm, people start to cough and possibly vomit. At 60ppm lung damage happens. So unless your mother feels very ill after each shower, there's not a problem.
Even if your family are concerned, you can buy filtering faucets and shower heads for a fraction of the cost asked by this man. They cost around $25 for a shower head and about the same for a filter for a faucet. $10,000 is scam territory.
Sorry about that! Here are some details.
I am a DIYer with no formal training. I just read a lot of stuff online (don't we all?). It took me 7 full days from start to absolute completion, 2 more days that I was expecting, but not bad overall. Total cost was around $2500. Luckily I have another full bath in the house.
Some of the components:
Vanity
Mirror
Tub
Glass door I purchased this at Lowes as well, but could not locate it on their website
Toilet with slow closing lid (will not slam down)
Floor Tile
Shower Tile
Accent Tile
Shower Head Highly recommended!!
The paint color is "Stone Fence" at homedepot 720F-4
I used an electric floor heating pad under the area that will be walked on, Although I have yet to experience a winter with it, I know how nice heated tile feels, it was worth the cost, about $250 just for that. Per the instructions, after you put the electric grid down, you are supposed to seal it down with mortar. I made my own, but if I were to do it again, I would have used the "pre-mixed" stuff from HD/Lowes so I did not have to worry about consistency/mixing it myself.
I used mortar as a base under the tub, although it was not required for that tub, I can NOT stand a squeeky tub, I am very glad I did this, I know I will never have to worry about it squeeking.
The biggest issue I ran into was tiling the shower, you don't realize how much square footage it really is. It was very tedious and it didn't help that I did not have a good tile saw, I'd recommend renting a good one so you don't drive yourself crazy as I almost did! It took me two full days to tile the shower.
I built an inverted shelf into the wall. This idea came after looking at pictures of a lot of tile showers online, this is how I got some of my inspiration. Just remember to put a slight incline into the base of the shelf so that water does not collect. I used Hardie-Backer for the walls (1/2in) and on the floor (1/4in).
If you need to drill holes into the tile (as I did to install the shower door), spend the money and get a good diamond bit, at my lowes, this good tile bit was not located with the tiling supplies (a cheap "kobalt" one was) it was located with all the other tools, the one I finally purchased that worked was from Hitachi and was something like $20 for one bit. I also used a dremel with a diamond cutting wheel to cut the holes for the shower plumbing, it took some time but was the easiest way I could think to do it.
One lesson I learned was to buy more than what you think you need, tile, adhesive, other supplies etc. Virtually everything can be returned for a full refund and it saves you an extra trip.
If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them.
Just get one of these shower drain hair catcher things and throw away the trapped hair when you're done showering.
I use this to save my pipes from my hair.
Smart bidet for the bathroom. Once you've been to Japan, you're gonna
wantneed this in your home. We got a cheap one for just over $200 and it works really well. Also, the seat is heated... mmmm!
I highly recommend using a tub shroom to help stop prevent clogs in the first place.
Here is something similar for pretty cheap you could install at home.

My family had a $20 limit for years. About 15 years ago, my mom got me a used VCR out of the thrift store - left the $17.99 sticker on it so the whole family could see she stayed under the 20 buck limit. That was a huge surprise. It was a luxury I couldn't have afforded on my own (they were selling for $200 back then) and it's still running fine today.
So I guess it depends on your recipient. but maybe you can make that $20 go toward something both long-lasting, and something your giftee really wants. Luxury items are affordable if the stars align.
as far as buying new under the BIFL flag, I'd over-spend by 4 bucks and get this showerhead.
Or pick a book they'd love off amazon. Books are archaic, but make great gifts. espcially the funny, coffee-table variety.
Do even more: Get yourself a bidet. Simple or fancy or something in between. It'll save the tush. Also, if you eat lightly the day before you start the cleanse, the whole thing goes easier. It's a lot of fuss over nothing and you get to avoid this type of cancer, at least.
Nope, I was gonna comment on that, I got one like this on Amazon for my girlfriend for V-day. It's the tits.
It's like $25 on prime.
I bought Ana Bath SS5450CBN a year ago. Best decision ever.
I wrote this up earlier today for someone who wanted to start getting prepped on ~$75/Month but also wanted to not have to cook the foods. I did include some long term storage as the first step anyway because it's so cheap and easy, but so far as consumables go, this is a good start for you.
--------------------------------------------
A lot of this is a shelf life and storage space issue. If you have plenty of room for storage, I'd start like this:
Buy two 50lb bags of white rice from a place like Costco or Sam's Club. Find 3 food safe 5 gallon buckets with lids. Get Mylar Bags and O2 Absorbers. Then hit Youtube for instructions on what to do with them. If the Mylar bags bit will hold you back from doing this, then skip them and just clean the buckets then dump rice in them straight. Seal, date, set aside. That's 160,000 calories in month 1. Given normal pantry supplies that stretches things out quite a ways. Plan on rotating out at 7ish years if put straight into the bucket and 20 years if you use the Mylar. Realistically, with Mylar, white rice may be good for much longer than 20 years (most people say 30, but for the minimal investment I'd rotate earlier to be safe).
Grab a Water Bob (not right now though, hurricane season has prices high and stocks low for them). Also, a Sawyer Water Filter or two. That gives you an opportunity to grab an extra hundred gallons of water in your bathtub initially given enough warning, and some water purification options later on.
Assuming you have storage capacity, start looking at #10 cans of food. Those are the cans that are around a foot tall and very wide. Look for things that you would eat and would be usuable in your daily lives, but also ones that would be calorie dense. For example, refried beans, nacho cheese, baked beans, white potatoes, chick peas, chili with beans, etc. Those are things you can use in recipes at home, but can pick them up and store them for a couple of years first. Getting them in the larger can is a better return on investment/dollar than buying smaller ones.
If your pantry isn't topped up with the things your family normally eats, drop that money to get a little deeper on those things. Velveeta cheese, crackers, cans of soup, noodles, peanut butter/jelly, canned vegetables/fruit, pasta/sauce, salsa, dried/canned beans, seasonings, canned meat, canned chili, etc. Date them and make sure to work through the oldest first. Having the normal foods you eat in bulk will likely end up being what gets you through most things (like the current hurricane season, job loss, winter blizzard, etc). Spending on these things can be used to fill out whatever is left of your budget when it gets partially used up on other things. I'd also maybe consider having some flats of bottled water at home as well. I usually keep 4-7 Costco sized ones on hand for my SO and I.
Start looking at longer term bulk water storage. I like 5 gallon stackable water cubes as they're easier to move and use and you buy them as you have a little extra cash here and there, but if you want to bump the budget up a bit for a month and your wife won't look at you like you're crazy, a 55 gallon barrel is a better price per gallon than the individual cubes. Sometimes there's just no replacing having your own clean water source ready to go. Barring all of that, if your family will use them just grab a bunch of flats of bottled water and rotate them. Stacked high they don't take up a ton of floor space.
At this point you're pretty well set initially for both water and food. Keep the pantry stocked and rotating. Add on for long term stored water as you see fit and maybe invest in something like a Big Berkey if you really want to drop some money into it. At that point I'd probably begin considering longer term food storage. More rice, add in some dry beans (roughly 5 year shelf life in Mylar/Buckets), and if you're feeling really into it you can get unground wheat and that will last 30 years or better in Mylar/Buckets. You'll just need to have a hand crank grinder or two to use it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I get wanting ready to eat foods, and that's pretty easy to do and a great place to start, but as one last recommendation... grab yourself a Propane Burner and a high pressure hose for it so that you can use regular propane tanks. You may be able to eat cold soup out of the can, but it's a lot more comforting when it's warm, and you can pretty easily have the ability to add more of your foods into your diet (like spaghetti or mac and cheese) when you can still have a burner to work with.
You should get one, they are awesome. I replaced my old shower head with a removable handheld one when I had surgery on my pelvic bone and needed to use a shower chair since my doctor told me I wasn't allowed to stand in the bathtub for about two months (if I fell in the bathtub during that time I'd have literally broken my butt). The initial plan was to put it back after, but I discovered that handheld showers are amazing.
Take the handheld shower down to clean the walls in the shower (rinsing your grout cleaner or whatever off the tiled walls). Hold the handheld shower so the cold water doesn't hit you when you first turn on the shower head instead of having to get in to the shower once it's already on. Use the handheld shower to better direct water flow to thoroughly rinse your groin area.
They're $20-$40 and totally a game changer and you don't realize how much better things could be until you have one. (Edit: I have this one by Delta for $25)
zero water filters might work:
https://www.amazon.com/ZeroWater-Dispenser-Water-Quality-Meter/dp/B003QXM3U8
(note that the filters get air bubbles in them and get slow and need 'burping' -- https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx1JEE0J56XTPX)
i've found i don't often need to change filters, but i don't live in flint... filters seem to last all year for me...
I have this. Cheap, easy to install, and works like a charm.
I'd go with a Brita water pitcher. Holds 10 cups (6 water bottles), won't crowd your fridge, and is more environmentally friendly than having to throw away hundreds of plastic bottles.
Luxe Bidet Neo 320
We have a Brondell in the upstairs spare bathroom, A Luxe 185 in the downstairs bathroom, and a Biobidet BB1000 in the master bathroom(it was only $150 on a lightning deal 2 years ago) and both of us prefer the Brondell one. The expensive one has warm water, warm seat and a pulsating stream to free those dingleberries but price isn't worth it, even at $150. Also the Brondell only raises the back of the seat 1/4". The Luxe raises seat height about an inch and the Biobidet raises it about 2 inches which doesn't seem like much but it's enough to feel strange on either of them.
Edit: fixed Luxe 185 link.
It's a small thing but it made me happy.
I replaced all the doorknobs in the house with matching Kwikset Antique brass finished knobs.
When I moved in the house had all different knobs and most of them have paint on them and it just bothered me. Especially when I could see more than one style/color of knob in the same room.
I also upgraded my shower head with one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LV7W4K/ref=pe_1098610_137716200_cm_rv_eml_rv0_dp which feels super good.
I want to replace my ceiling fans next and fix up my cabinets.
This is the one we have. We love it!
ETA looks like it’s increased in price since we got it (it was just over $50 when we got it) but I’d buy it 10x over
This too. You're welcome.
And this if you don't shower alone.
I've been using this one for years without problems, highly recommend.

i use a bobby pin to get under all of the hair so i can pull it off with my hands. i also frequently boil it to get rid of product buildup.
if you think the hair in your hairbrush is gross, please invest in a hair catcher for the shower drain.
No no no, I mean mushroom. Well, Tubshroom

These things are fucking gold. You put just the bottom part in the drain. Don't push in all the way. Just the tip...(base)
Ive spent a ridiculous amount of time finding solutions to guest related problems over the last 8 years. This is something I would highly recommend in all airbnbs.
Real talk.
Why do you feel you are entitled to an in-fridge water filter? Most people don't have one. It's a luxury. If filtered water is so important to you, get one for your sink. This one is like 20 bucks.
Almost 6'3" here. One of the first renovations I've done in every place I've owned is raise the shower head in whatever shower I will be using. It's not really that big a deal if you can access the plumbing from the other side.
If you're renting or not that handy you can also used one of these for a quick fix.

Your new best friend
Zero water is the heavy lifter of water filters, but it's pricey and if you water sucks that bad you'll be going through filters in twice the time. But they will absolutely get the job done and make it taste as good as any bottled brands.
I use this on my disgusting Ohio 'I can't believe it's not well water'
https://www.amazon.com/ZeroWater-ZD-018-23-Cup-Dispenser-Filtration/dp/B003QXM3U8
My friend bought this one on amazon and swears by it, however there are cheaper (non-heated) ones there that I’ve also seen with positive reviews on Reddit.
Here's my life changing advice - http://www.amazon.com/BB-600-Ultimate-Advanced-Toilet-Elongated/dp/B007HIKQCK
Amazon, where else?
We bought gallons of nursery water for our son 7 years ago and used it at room temp. Now we have a big berkey and we will just use the filtered water from that.
We would pre-fill bottles with correct amount of water and pre-measure the correct amount of formula into a formula dispenser. When we needed a bottle just pour the formula into the bottle and mix. If we wanted to warm the bottle (which was hardly ever), we would just fill a cup with hot water and put the bottle into it to take the chill off.
This is the one I have.
Luxe Bidet Neo 185 (Elite Series) - Self Cleaning Dual Nozzle - Fresh Water Non-Electric Mechanical Bidet Toilet Attachment w/Strong Faucet Valves and Metal Hoses (White and White) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00P2XZIP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_0ozIDbT7ZNYE5
I got this cause it has the feminine nozzle but you could get the same results with the 120 version and just lean forward a bit more !
If you get it make sure your water supply line to your toilet is one of the flexible hoses not the firm metal pipe. I had to make a trip to home depot to get a flexible one.
If you suffer from long hair clogging up the shower drain, get a tub shroom. Best investment ever.
Edit: This thing
They also have ones for stand up showers, and sinks as well. I was skeptical but I've used one for months and it's amazing.
Like many of my brothers in this sub, I'm always thirsty and always want water. In particular, I want it ice cold and in massive quantities. A while ago, I got this refillable 100z "cup":
Pic with pint glass for size comparison
I lived near a gas station with really well filtered water that let me fill it up for free, so I was set. Unfortunately, after moving, all the places near me want like $1 for an ice water refill in that thing. Fuck that. Here's an overview of all the components needed.
Pitcher - I use this Brita pitcher. In the past I used the bigger one here, but it honestly sucks to fill up because it's heavy and unwieldy, whereas the pitcher form factor is really easy to just refill right after you use. It also pours quite a bit slower. Apparently my new place does some filtration of water before it comes out of the sink, so I might switch to this guy for instant filtration. Also make sure to change that damn filter often enough. Having charcoal leech into everything when it breaks down from too much use won't hurt you but it definitely looks bad and takes some time to clean out.
Giant Cup - Valero Corner Stores sell this, though the 64oz and 52oz variants are more common. Plenty of other gas stations sell identical 100oz cups with their branding, but you just have to find one. If you don't mind paying the pretty steep cost (~$20) some people sell them on Amazon, like this one. I really really wish Yeti or some other company made a 100oz cup made for drinking that insulates as well as theirs do, but I haven't found one.
Reusable Straw - The big cup comes with a plastic reusable straw which you can see in the pictures of the one I linked to, but I don't like it. The ridged structure that makes it easily bendable also causes drag on the water and makes it harder to drink. So what I use are these. They are just the right size. They get a bit off smelling after a while (a month or two), and there's a brush included to clean them, but I can never really get them cleaned well, so I honestly just toss them and use another. It's $8 for 5, so you're looking at maybe $15 or so a year in straw costs. I had also looked at some of those reusable metal straws but then I realized how bad it would suck to pick up the cup too quickly and bash my teeth out with the inertia of a full 100oz cup.
Ice - Here's the the tricky one. This is basically why I filled it up at the gas station in the past. I'm really picky about ice and will only use clear "restaurant quality" ice. The kind of ice made in most freezer ice makers is cloudy because of air bubbles in the water, meaning that it also picks up any off smells in the freezer, melts far too quickly, is weirdly soft, etc. If you do it right, you can get pretty clear ice from ice trays, but if you're doing that for a cup that big, it's gonna take a lot of time. Here is a pic of the ice maker I bought to solve this problem (I bought it here). It does a really good job making clear, good tasting ice. I fill it up with a full load of water from the pitcher and usually within 90-120 minutes, it's full of clear square ice. Here is a pic of some extra ice I stash in the freezer from it. I'll edit this with a pic of some fresh super clear ice in a bit, I don't have any on hand right now. Overall, I like the ice machine, though I will say that it costs quite a bit to run (it runs at around 150W, spiking to 190W) and should be wiped down every week or two. It might just be easier to grab some of the 10 or 20lb bags of ice from the gas station or grocery story and use that. It is nice to be able to make it on demand though.
Every morning I get up and fill the ice maker up to the top, sip on the leftover water from last night while I wait for the new ice, and then refill when I'm done. I usually drink two cupfulls of water a day.
But what if I want my water to get me drunk?
The best part about water is that it makes the best mixed drink for sipping at home. Just carbonate it and mix it with a spirit. The Japanese highball is the height of such mixed drinks, but I've found that some experimentation yielded a variety of great options. I usually do around 5:1 water to spirit, but usually I eyeball the spirit pour and just full up the glass.
How to make it at home? Sodastream of course! Here is a picture of my Sodastream bottle, a very fancy eau-de-vie, and the resulting beverage. Here are my top picks for spirits to mix with your delicious spicy water:
There are tons of other great options and plenty of bad ones (funky rum like Rumfire or Wray & Nephew, mezcal, peaty scotch, etc. are things I love that don't work)
Hope this inspires people to drink more fuckin water.
To get an idea of what people are looking for in a water filter, skim the top reviews on Amazon. Many mention removing tasteless contaminants so I think that IS a small effect people are looking for.
What you are feeling is soap scum.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soap_scum
Most liquid soap uses sodium lauryl sulfate "SLS" which doesn't react the same way.
Get a water softener. They even make ones that screw onto the showerhead, so perfect for renters. You just have to refill them more often.
A better idea would be to purchase a better showerhead. The brand can make an incredible difference in perceived pressure.
I have been a big fan of Speakman and (surprisingly) WaterPik. Here are my two favorites, and they are 45 minute long shower wife approved too.

> getting her feeling 'intimate and relaxed' with a massage first? Loosen up the muscles, help her forget about work/life before you start the foreplay?
Yes, exactly!
Massage can be the gateway for many women who are slow to warm up. "Foreplay" doesn't really work for a lot of us because our clits aren't responsive until we're already warmed up.
Some other things that can help: a long, hot bath or shower; meditation; a glass of wine or a few tokes of good weed; having a big block of time with no responsibilities and no interruptions; feeling especially loved and cherished. (Massage helps with that last one too.)
It's a pity she didn't try the vibes. I need a lot of help to get to my first orgasm, and introducing vibrators into both foreplay and sex has made a huge difference.
Some women who won't use vibrators find that water is a great masturbation aid. Maybe get her a pulsating handheld showerhead extension? Like this, for example. They're also great for bathing pets and little kids.
If she doesn't like the showerhead idea, she can lie back in the tub, stick her legs straight up, and slide her pussy under the faucet, or she can use a waterproof vibrator in the tub or shower.
But start with a2freema's idea. There are very few wives and moms who don't love getting a good massage!
I own this Delta showerhead and love it to death. It saves on my water bill while simultaneously giving me a more powerful rinse than I had before AND delivering hot water sooner and more consistently than the others I've tried.
Edit: No seriously, there's some actual science in this $25 showerhead. Check it out.
If anyone is interested, you could do this yourself in 5 minutes for under $20.
You just need a new shower pipe like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000MNJJ66/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1404920039&sr=8-3&pi=QL40
When I came home from Japan about a year ago I immediately bought a toilet seat that did most (not all) of the functions of the Japanese toilets.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HIKQCK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zaGrDbMFXPSFF
Pricey, but worth every penny. I looked in to the Toto toilets and seats but they're a bit more expensive so I decided to try this one first and it's pretty much everything I wanted. I may upgrade someday and move this one to my second bathroom, but for now I love it!
the top part you see here threads to a "nut" on the underside of the tub. with all that rust it might be difficult to get off, but you would just unscrew it (lefty-loosy). here's a pic: https://bathrenovationhq.com/wp-content/uploads/bathtub-drain-removal-2.jpg to give you an idea of what you're looking at.

Hey, girl. I have colitis too (ischemic). I hear you on the bathroom thing. Boy, do I ever.
Might want to get yourself one of these. They're easy to install, all you need is an adjustable wrench and a flat head screwdriver. Even if you're not particularly handy, this is seriously easy. And worth it, holy cow, SO WORTH IT.
The first time you try it will be a shock because the water's not warmed up at all, but you get used to it, and after a flare-up, that cold water is a blessing. Very soothing. Stops me from shaking after I explode and am draped there, wrung out and weak.
Same here, and like many others I also bought a seat within a few weeks of coming home.
This is the model I have, and it's worked perfectly for about a year and a half now.

First, I'd recommend checking out r/SebDerm, there's a lot of great info there.
The exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis isn't yet known, so treating it is complicated. It may be the cause of a fungal infection or it may be genetic. You may want to consider seeing a dermatologist to help determine what is causing yours and the best treatment.
The two shampoos usually recommended are Head & Shoulders (like you're looking into) and Nizoral A-D. They each have different active ingredients; Head & Shoulders uses pyrithione zinc, while Nizoral A-D uses ketoconazole. Neither is inherently better, just be aware that you may have to try both to figure out what your skin needs.
How is your water at home? If you have hard water, that may be irritating your scalp as well. I went over this in an archived thread a while ago:
>Hard water is water that has higher mineral content. The usual suspects are calcium, magnesium, and sometimes iron. These minerals are present as cations (ions with fewer electrons than protons, giving it a positive charge), usually with a 2+ charge. That 2+ charge destroys the surfactant properties of soap, so rather than a soft lather, the soap forms a precipitate (soap scum).
>
>That soap scum that is difficult to wash off the sides of sinks and showers is also difficult to wash off your skin. The residue left behind can clog pores and irritate the skin. If your skin feels dry and itchy out of the shower, or generally dull, the hard water may be the cause. It also affects hair and scalp health. If your scalp feels dry and itchy, or like shampoos don't quite clean your roots, it's likely because of the soap scum buildup.
>
>If you're able to shower in an area with soft water, you can actually feel the difference. The water is almost slippery in comparison, and the soap feels lighter when you lather it. It also tastes a little sweeter, in my opinion.
Installing an entire water softener is often pricey, but there are decent filters that install in-line for your shower head that you can get for under $50.
There are also a number of home remedies that are recommended by users, but often have less research. It may be worth looking into as some people have success with these.
Anecdotally, a shower head filter was the best for me when I dealt with scalp irritation, this is the one I purchased. I can't say for sure that it was seborrheic dermatitis as I never went to a dermatologist, but the symptoms were very similar. Additionally, I use apple cider vinegar as a scalp treatment a couple times per week to give it a good cleanse. I dilute some and put it into a spray bottle, spray my scalp, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before showering. Sometimes I'll soak in a tub with some apple cider vinegar and that makes the skin on my body feel a bit exfoliated (ACV is acidic) and clears up any breakouts. u/PoopDoopTrixie wrote up an entertaining and informative review about apple cider vinegar baths.
Seborrheic dermatitis is often a long term problem, there isn't always a "cure". Similar to people who have sensitive skin or are acne prone, it's more about figuring out a routine that works for you. Hopefully this information is helpful, the best of luck to you!

Yeah those things are kinda shit. Try this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MNJJ66/
Sure! I have [this bidet](Brondell S1000-EW Swash 1000 Advanced Bidet Elongated Toilet Seat, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0045UB9GK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nKg5AbXEH37J7). It’s a seat you can fit on any existing toilet. We had to add a power outlet to our bathroom to do it. But that was like $300 and I did a price watch on the bidet and got it for $400 so all in for $700 and it is LIFE CHANGING. It has two washers, one for the butt and one for the cooch, you can select the temp of the water and the air, and the seat is warmed. It amazing. I’m gonna go use it now.....
We got the Luxe Bidet Neo 320. For some reason it seems that the blue colored knobs make it $102, while the white colored knobs make it $58. I am pretty sure we paid about $40 though. I dunno, weird.
We have a detachable shower hose thingie! It was only about $20 on amazon (but make sure to buy some plumbers' tape too so you don't get leaks right where it screws on).
Super easy to install! Unscrew old shower head, wrap plumber tape around the threads a bunch of times. Screw new shower head on. Turn on water to check for leaks. If it leaks, then turn it off and unscrew and put more plumber tape on. Once it doesn't leak anymore, you're done!
Then you can just grab the shower head off the hook and rinse your lady bits nice and clean!
Edit: this one. It's $25 now. It can do both shower heads at once, but we usually keep it set to the upper hose one only to keep the water pressure higher. You'll have much lower water pressure if you use both heads at the same time.
Maybe the easiest thing to do is take control over it (Buy lube - seriously.. buy it). You know you're interested in it so why not prep before hand - clean yourself in the shower, climb into bed, hand him your newly purchased bottle of lube and suggest some back door action. Instead of worrying about how to take 8-inches though, start with a finger and gradually build up to it just to see how you and your body likes it. It should give you a better idea of how your IBS will handle it and it'll be slow enough that you can slowly introduce bigger things into the mix if you desire as you go along. Keep it casual and fun. You're playing in the backdoor - at some point you're going to see stuff but it shouldn't be a mood killer, what did you expect :)
On a side note - IBS or not, if you're worried about cleanliness, you can always install a bidet toilet attachment. I installed 2 of them in my house now and I swear by them. Not messy at all.
I really wouldn't recommend him going in without ever working smaller things in the mix. I'm his size and if i were to try that in the very beginning my gf's would never want to try it again.

Get the Cadillac baby!
Many water filters work well at removing lead and other impurities. I'm fond of the culligan faucet mount filter. Bought it for the second time recently in California when they used some weird algae tasting water for a while.
https://www.amazon.com/Culligan-FM-15A-Advanced-Faucet-Filter/dp/B00006WNMI
Of all the major brands of faucet filters I've bought, this is the only one that has never sprung a leak. and the filters are pretty affordable too through amazon subscribe and save.
http://www.amazon.com/Culligan-FM-15A-Level-Faucet-Filter/dp/B00006WNMI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381619939&sr=8-1&keywords=culligan+fm-15a
We've had decent luck with a PUR filter attached to our faucet.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009CEKY6/
I don't mind the taste of City water, but my wife doesn't care for it, so we installed a faucet filter a couple of years ago. I won't lie though, the PUR filter doesn't eliminate the mineral taste entirely. If I had to put a percentage on it, I'd say it removes about 90% of the taste.
So long as that's a standard faucet size (and I can't imagine why it wouldn't be, even though it all looks a bit odd because it's unfinished), swapping a showerhead is about the simplest diy in the world.
This showerhead is dirt cheap and gets great reviews: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LV7W4K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Hoe8ybFX6DG57
We have one and it's great for the price.
You'll need a pair of pliers and some thread sealing (plumber's) tape. But pretty sure the Delta comes with some.
Easy peazy.
If someone needs extra motivation to take a shower regularly, I can recommend a shower head that really improved my experience of showering. It's meant for showers with low water pressure, and it makes some very powerful jets that shoot the water out at a pretty high speed, but in a fairly broad spread, in small drops instead of in streams. It feels great. Just let the water get warm before you get in- the spread-out jets bring a lot of air with them, and if the water's not fully warm yet, it'll be extra cold, as it brings its own breeze.
https://www.amazon.com/Faucet-2-Spray-Shower-Chrome-75152/dp/B000LV7W4K
I own a "water amplifying" showerhead that does this. Delta 75152. Makes the water jets feel more intense by rapidly jittering them around. It's pretty effective!
I recommend a shower head like this, and/or an extension like this. I have a similar setup, and it's pretty awesome. Obviously not helpful for the road, but for 95% of the rest of life it's great.

Not OP but I've installed the same at every place I've rented in the last 5 years. They have longer ones at Home Depot/elsewhere on the net, but they're all called the same.

Second, yes get one. I have this one and it's pretty badass. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043BEUXK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Mine is a Brondell S-1000, and it cost me about CDN$650.
> Also, you have a bidet? Or has it identified something it's calling a bidet?
Spent a few months in far east (Japan/Singapore/Hong Kong) two years ago. First thing I bought when I returned was one of these. Let me just say it doesn't get 4.5 stars on Amazon for nothing!
I have one of these. It's amazing. http://www.amazon.com/Brondell-S1000-EW-Advanced-Elongated-Toilet/dp/B0045UB9GK
Eh, don't wipe
Just a thought: since you are going to have a washer/dryer setup in there, maybe it would be a good idea to include a floor drain? Just in case the washer leaks, or a hose bursts? Might save you a lot of headaches one day.........
And three outlets. One on either side of the vanity, and one down low by the toilet. This will allow you to power a warm water bidet:
https://www.amazon.com/Brondell-S1000-EW-Advanced-Elongated-Toilet/dp/B0045UB9GK
Once you experience it, you will wonder how you ever survived all this time without one......

Okay there are a couple good ones I know of, but I do NOT support ordering anything from amazon. Try to find these elsewhere if anyone has time, post the links.
Thanks. FYI to anyone trying to filter water please don't use Brita filters they are crap. Take some time and save up a little cash and invest in a filter system that has a ceramic filter in it, way better and last alot longer. here is what my family use
Got married in 2015 and we was in the same boat as you... Both of us are from large ethnic families who wanted to give physical gifts (because they're well intentioned and wanted to pay it forward - a lot of them were newly arrived in the US without a lot of money, and sometimes not a lot of family and married pretty young - so gifts they got for their marriage were actually very much needed). Both my partner and I already had functioning apartments (separately), then when we moved in while we were engaged, realized we had about 2 of everything and had to narrow that down. Thankfully, we are pretty minimal people - him by nature, me by intention. But especially after having to sort through both of our belonging to weed out duplicates, we really felt like we did not need anything else.
We ended up taking a two pronged appraoch: 1) Upgrading things we had, and used, but that were not all that nice to begin with and 2) Items that would help us achieve the goals that we had laid out for our relationship as a married couple.
A few things we asked for that have seen a lot of use:
I guess my overall advice would be to make a list of goals you want to achieve for your life together, and then try to ask for items that either help you achieve those goals, or enhance those experiences.
A few examples:
Does anyone NEED this stuff? No, of course not. But when you're lucky enough to already have all your basic needs met in life, wedding registries provide are a nice opportunity to upgrade things that were aquired at an earlier time in your time in your life, not for their enduring quality, but rather their low cost/ ease of procurement. Good luck!
We use a Berkey water filter for all our drinking and cooking water.
It improved the taste and cleared up some stomach issues that we hadn't realized was water related.
>Also does anyone know if the Toto washlet from costco is the C100 or the C200?
I don't think it's either of those. The Costco listing supplies "TOTO WASHLET T1SW2024", of which the SKU corresponds to the A200. This would be the model from Toto.
All of that being said, you don't have to spend hundreds of $$ for a quality bidet experience. This $60 model is what I've gifted to a number of first time users (for a great/useful birthday gift) and it's always been a hit.
Best of luck.
For less than $20 more you can have hot & cold. It adds another 30 minutes installation time, but you’ll be glad for it in February!
check it out
Absolutely. I bought and installed this a couple years ago and it's awesome. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JG3NVG2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one is the best simply because it has a mist setting that gets everything off and covers your entire body.
If you take out the 2 water flow restrictors shown in the reviews it makes the water pressure double.
I got you boo boo!
My favorite method is to get a shower shot. This is the one I have and I love it, but it’s VERY easy to cause a bigger problem with a shower shot than you had to begin with (explanation below.) I bought my shower shot along with this shower head which I can discreetly unscrew the handheld shower head and screw in my shower shot when I need to use it and none of my roommates have a clue that I just rinsed out my butthole. It also allows me to control the water pressure on the shower head.
The better method to start with would is to go to the pharmacy and get some Fleet Enemas. Enemas or a Bulb Douche are the preferred beginning option because it’s easier to control how much water you’re using.
So, as a few other people have mentioned douching isn’t always necessary. If you have enough insoluble fiber in your diet, your body will clean about 95% of the debris out on its own. Insoluble Fiber helps to add bulk to your stool and hold it all together so when you go to the bathroom, there aren’t any little pieces left behind up there. Do not mistake that with soluble fiber which draws more water into your colon. I still prefer to give it a quick swish just for peace of mind, confidence, and comfort.
When you douche as far as water is concerned, less is more. You ONLY want to rinse out your rectum. This is why Fleet Enemas are good because they’re designed to hold the right amount of fluid. You DO NOT want to use too much water as it can over-fill your rectum and spill into your colon. If that happens, you can douche until the water runs clear, and then 10 minutes later a brown slurry begins dropping into your once clean rectum and... it’s NOT GOOD! If possible, you want to douche, and later have sex, after you have a good solid bowel movement. So go bop bop, shower and douche multiple times with a few ounces of saline/water until the water you push out runs clear a few times. Then soap and shower as normal.
Do NOT have sex immediately after douching. Despite your best efforts, chances are there is still some leftover water/saline in your rectum which you want to give 30 minutes or so for your body to reabsorb what’s left behind or you might spring a leak!
Now, douching is great in my opinion BUT you do not want to douche all the time. Douching strips healthy mucuses out of your rectum which potentially could increase your risks of contracting STDs. Your rectum is also home to a whole biological ecosystem which is part of a healthy immune and digestive system. The general consensus from doctors that I’ve read is that if you’re JUST rinsing out a small section of your lower GI like your rectum, it’s probably not not much of a concern but why upset your gut biome at all if you don’t have to. Douching is great! But don’t over do it.
I think that about covers it! If I missed anything or you have any questions feel free to ask!!!
Ohhhhhh well in that case just get a shower head that has two heads. One that has a hose on it. I got one for for like $20. Give me a minute and I'll look it up.

OXO Good Grips Silicone Drain Protector for Pop-Up & Regular Drains
drain protector
This might not be needed immediately after birth but a hair catcher for your shower. I found the hair loss frightening, but this saved my drain.
Other things:
Cases of water bottles, or a large reusable water bottle (or one for every room), whatever you’re in too. Got to keep hydrated, especially if you’re breastfeeding!
Snacks. All the snacks. In every room.
When my milk came it it came in crazy. I was wearing towels in my shirt over night for the leaking. You can get some cheap dish towels at the dollar store, and they also work great as burp cloths. The reusable and disposable breast pads are great as well but I loved stuffing a towel in when I was at home.
Stock up on soap, shampoo, etc. Like months of it because you don’t want to finally get into the shower and find out you don’t have conditioner. Speaking from experience. 😬
I second this. If your drain is a pop-up type they make ones that go over that too. If you go to Target sometimes they have ones with suction cups so they'll stay put better.
A shower curtain if you have the kind of tub/shower that needs one. Also get a hair stopper to prevent hair going down the drain! Something like this. If you have a tub and like baths I suggest a drain cover too to get an extra few inches of water/bubbles.
Enjoy your new house!

Get a bidet. I no longer need wet wipes, and I barely even need toilet paper. All that's left to do after bidet-ing is to gently dry off. It's been mind blowing and life changing. Why are americans so barbaric? Bidets are inexpensive. They are powered by the clean water going into the toilet tank (does not need electricity). This one took only 15 minutes to install. Do it. Get one. You will thank me!!

So... like every Japanese toilet? They usually sell the covers for few hundred.
I like the heating part, but I did not find the spray very useful.
The drier is awful. It pushes all the odours out in your face. Yuck.
If I had my own house I'd get one though.
It's never been a huge problem for me but there are models that heat the water up. They are more expensive and more complicated to install though.
I have a friend that has this bad boy but the price jumps from $40 to $250. He swears by it though.

Here you go
Hmm, if it's not something specific then...
Most of the time the only difference between bottled water and municipal drinking water is a charcoal filter. Maybe try a Brita pitcher and see if it improves the taste. This is what I use:
https://www.amazon.com/Brita-Large-Everyday-Pitcher-Filter/dp/B01FXN3E74
Alternatively if you're in the USA then your local water supply publishes annual reports that are free of charge which includes their results:

Get a water filter for your fridge and a nice water bottle. I'm super picky about the taste of my water so I got one of these and it works great

As long as you can detach the shower head from the spigot it should work! I have this filter and i attached a custom shower head to the end of it.
I have this one:

Sounds like an allergy to something you’re using in the shower or the water itself. Are you on well water? Or could be hard city water. Maybe try a shower filter like this: AquaBliss High Output 12-Stage Shower Filter - Reduces Dry Itchy Skin, Dandruff, Eczema, and Dramatically Improves The Condition of Your Skin, Hair and Nails - Chrome (SF100) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_d0eCDbMTT84Z9

Meaning... the filter can provide you with 1,514 individual bottles of water. So unless this water comes out to 18 cents per 24 pack you are NOT saving anything.
We have really bad water and have been really happy with this one.
Culligan FM-15A Advanced Faucet Filter Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006WNMI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_sb0MxbKYDENHH
We bought several of the ones that just snap onto your faucet and every one ended up leaking and turning into a mini-water-fountain within a few weeks. This one actually screws on, so it takes a minute to put on/take off, but it works SO MUCH BETTER. Been using it daily for two years now, and it's under $30.
This was the filter, xandarg recommended it. Seems to working fine. Really slow though compared to before. My tap water is only 40ppm? So besides the chloramine it is pretty good.
I might buy RO/distilled by the gallon in the future like you've suggested when I get into living soil or hydro. Right now i'm still using liquid nutrients but with my new plants i'm going to try some worm castings tea. So i'll want to get rid of the chloramine for that. I'll be doing some comparisons though to see if the type of water is really making that much of a difference with my garden when it comes to the tea.
That's less about the region and more about how it's being stored. You'll want to double check your containers are sealing properly and that your refrigerator is staying a proper temperature.
If you're concerned about the water, which isn't going to be much better or worse than most places in California, get a filter on your tap. I have something very similar to this on my faucet for drinking water. It's not that the water is unsafe to drink, but more so it does have tastes in it that I want out. Either way, those filters can be found in any major department store for sure, or even something like Home Depot or Lowe's.
Only if they say they're rated to do as such. This one makes no mention of lead so I would assume not. Also, you may find pitcher filters are annoyingly slow. You're better off getting a faucet attached filter, even their standard filters are rated for 99% lead removal. They take about a minute to install.
I'm looking for water filter recommendations for my faucet to see if my water might be cause of some of the skin issues I've been having. So far I've only looked at PUR water filters on Amazon because I don't know anything about water filters and they are the only ones I've heard of. I'm not really sure what's the difference between the [basic] (https://www.amazon.com/PUR-Black-Basic-Vertical-Faucet/dp/B009V9K6BY/ref=sr_1_3?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1474066604&sr=1-3&keywords=pur+faucet+water+filter), [2-step] (https://www.amazon.com/PUR-FM-3333B-2-Stage-Vertical-Faucet/dp/B0007ZYUA4/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1474066604&sr=1-2&keywords=pur+faucet+water+filter), and [advanced] (https://www.amazon.com/Advanced-Faucet-Filter-Chrome-FM-3700B/dp/B0009CEKY6/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1474066604&sr=1-8&keywords=pur+faucet+water+filter) filtration systems. I will not be drinking this water, as I already have another system installed in my kitchen for that. Any advice/recommendations would be appreciated. If there's another sub where someone can direct me for more specific information, that is also appreciated! Thanks!
Here's a filtered water pitcher for $27 and here's a faucet filter for $37.

This one is my jam.
This is the greatest head of all time for making a strong, high pressure experience when you have mediocre water pressure. I have replaced all of my heads with this head and the difference is night and day. Delta Faucet 2-Spray Shower Head, Chrome 75152 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LV7W4K/
Just did a little digging through my amazon purchases.... here's the one I got:

I ended up installing the same one in my moms house as well, love it
I also shave in the shower but I use a shower head for low pressure. It saves on water, thus saving on hot water. I can take 30 minutes showers and never run out! Thought you might want to try it or something similar

Delta 75152 3-7/8" Single-Function Shower Head with H2Okinetic Technology, Chrome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LV7W4K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nZuMzbVFNJVS2
The Sweet Home has a great comparison article on shower heads. I don't know if they really qualify as BIFL, but I bought the $23 Delta 75152 faucet based on their secondary recommendation and love it. I figured I'd use the high flow 2.5 L/min mode all the time, but honestly the 1.8 L/min mode is perfect. The 2.5 L/min actually feels like an absurd amount of water.

Not sure about the water pressure being due to aleak or not. If those shower heads ddon't work out for you (though you said you've used them before and were happy), you could try the one I linked just below. I used it in an apartment I couldn't make any changes to that had lower pressure, and it worked great without being overly harsh (then girlfriend, now wife didn't like the kind you linked when I tried it first):

Is what I have, pretty good jet that comes out.
Add one of these s extensions in addition
Lol going o be a funny looking shower when you are done
For what it's worth, I had one of those and it worked for probably a year. It just broke off within the last week. You just need to have a properly sized faucet I suppose.
I think this is it. It's not super amazing, but for $3 it's not bad. Or, at least the one I got wasn't.
I think every home, no matter how big or small, should have something interesting or quirky! I suggest this, this, and/or that
Good luck in the new apartment!
Temperature controlled faucet light! just because it's awesome :D How easy was that?
HOME SWEET HOME! And missed you too. :)

Buy this:
and a glass water bottle and never look back!
Yes, buy a Zero Water filter it's the only filter of it's kind that I know of that works almost as well as an RO filter.
I bought a ZeroWater filtration system to filter my tap water. It eliminated the taste of the tap. It also comes with an electronnic sensor to tell you when the filter is used up.
It saves me money over buying water bottles, and there's no plastic waste.
Me, but I use a zerowater filter that I keep in the fridge. It's the best deal I could find as far as how much water each filter could filter. It holds enough water to last me about a week.
If you are like me, a late night visit to Amazon Prime ordering this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QXM3U8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to be delivered tomorrow. The house I live in was on the "lead list" and was built in 1917. I guess there is a nice symmetry in using Amazon.com/smile and having selected "Charity:Water" (Mission: charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations) as my charity of choice? Egh.
Would love something like this. Had my knee replaced 4 months ago and have some pain in a few spots.
Nothing beats a great shower after a long hard day of work.
Love the color Navy Blue and White.
FLAX, thanks for the contest.
You know what else is a nice upgrade? 2 shower heads.

a good shower is essential. I bought this setup recently and it is the best thing ever
... This one even has a remote! https://www.amazon.com/Brondell-S1000-EW-Advanced-Elongated-Toilet/dp/B0045UB9GK/ref=sr_1_21?s=kitchen-bath&ie=UTF8&qid=1469732134&sr=1-21&keywords=bidet
Room for one?
They make versions that are simply toilet seat replacements.
https://www.amazon.com/Brondell-S1000-EW-Advanced-Elongated-Toilet/dp/B0045UB9GK
Pricey for a toilet seat, to be sure, but well worth the money. You can usually find this model on sale for closer to $400 if you are patient.
There are other cheaper models that don't have features like heated seats, a remote, inline heaters and self-sanitizing nozzles; but those last two options are pretty much a must-have.
The inline heater is great if you live in cold regions, as cold water on the cornhole isn't that much fun and nobody really wants to have to clean the nozzle themselves.
This is the one I use at home and have for the past six years. Though this appears to be the same except colored blue and white vs just white and it's 7 bucks cheaper.
If you just search amazon for bidet, there are tons of options, from the basic one that I link above to ones that use front and back warm water, blow dry you, spray fragrance and have a remote control (and also cost $600 O_o).
Don't have a pic but I have the Bio Bidet BB-600 and it is one of the best purchases I've ever made!
I would also highly recommend getting a bidet toilet seat over just an attachment. They are a lot more expensive but the features you get are totally worth it. My favourite features are the heated water, distinct buttons for adjusting the nozzle position and pressure, and the oscillating spray which helps cover a larger area overall without you having to do anything. It also has an autonomous mode which does everything for you with the push of the button and it even has a built-in air dryer that goes with it (although it takes a really long time so I usually just end up using a few squares of TP to dry the water off.
The only downside to me is that the nozzle pressure and position reset after every use so I keep having to put them back which is kind of annoying but I suppose if multiple people use your bidet regularly it makes sense. I also can't really sit on my toilet seat lid anymore but that hasn't been a big deal to me.
Overall I'd give mine a 9/10, and would recommend others to get one.
Once you give it up you don't want it anymore. Definitely worth giving up. Processed sugar is not good for you, and a can of soda has like 55 grams of it. Not to mention all of the other stuff that is in there.

I like drinking lemon lime water-- just squeeze half a lemon and half a lime in 16oz of water. I recommend using a gravity filter like this one to get rid of most of the impurities found in tap water.
We have purchased this whole-house water filter which is rated for lead, amongst several other contaminants: http://www.wavehomesolutions.com/product/citysupreme-city-water-system/

Here you go! This is the bidet that comes with option of both hot and cold water
This one apparently attaches to your hot and cold water supply (from under the sink)
i have Luxe Bidet Neo 320, works fine. except the hot water takes a while to turn hot (just like the sink) which i didn't think of. you can run the sink first for a while and then the bidet will produce hot water when you turn it on.
> You can't get your whole body wet at the same time - one side of you is always chilly
Get ye one of these and also one of these and you'll be so happy!
We installed one similar to this one in our apartment that came with a "fixed to the wall" style. The little connector piece that screws into the pipe coming out of the wall should be universal in modern apartments in America :)

I second this! We got a bidet attachment a few months ago and aside from the obvious rinse after #2 which is great, I love it for cleaning up after sex and during my period. Serious life improvement. I'll share the link to the one I got from Amazon, it's only $45 and has a "woman" setting which aims more forward than the regular setting. It installed in about ten minutes. Totally worth it imo.

It blows warm air but tp is more effective. And yes. I put that outlet in.
As someone with a lot of hair who also sheds a lot of hair, I'm going to suggest a "tubshroom" strainer for your shower. It will still eventually get clogged up but lasts waaaaaaay longer than any other strainer I've tried (the struggle is real, folks).

Other tips:
This is the one I have.
Get a water filter and prepare the tea from filtered water. No stains and much better taste.
Short of seeing particles in the water or the water tasting funny, you won't know without a water test. This is true of all homes no matter where you live in the world. Your landlord won't know, and if he did, he'd not be likely to admit the water is unsafe because then you could easily push him legally to fix it. He'd simply trust you're not going to pay for a water test.
A water filter is generally a good idea. If you can't hook one to your kitchen sink, and your fridge doesn't take one (sooo unlikely for an apartment), then you're stuck buying a Brita water pitcher or something similar.
Usually, apartments have the least expensive major appliances possible (not energy efficient, no water filter, etc.) because the tenant usually pays the water and electric bills. There's no incentive for the landlord to provide better appliances unless he's just a good guy.
One thing you can do is taste the water that comes out of the faucet first thing in the morning, after rust or any other major particulates have had time to settle. The cheap fix there is to run the water a bit before drinking or filling a pot. If you have a traditional tank water heater, this is important for hot water because that's where the rust will come from, the water heater. Modern water heaters will heat the water on-the-fly, and there is no tank being kept hot 24/7, but don't count on an apartment being modern.
Looks like iron to me. CLR will probably fix it, but I'm not sure what it's called over there. It's a simple acid that removed minerals. Just soak the whole shower head in it.
Once you get the grout clean, seal it. If you know the exact grout used it will be helpful.
Lastly, you might try getting a shower head filter. Ugly, but works well. Makes your hair wash better as well.
Ideally you want to treat the water itself, but if you don't own the home that's probably not an option, and if you do it's not a quick and easy job, with the exception of a whole house filter that can usually be installed with simple hand tools, assuming it is a push-to-fit system and doesn't require soldering or anything exotic.
Do other parts of the house have this problem? If not, it may be the electric shower disintegrating, possibly because of acidic water.
Do you know what your pipes are made of?
Get a shower fiiter. AquaBliss High Output Universal Shower Replaceable Multi Stage Filter Cartridge-Chrome (SF220), 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G7AZB96/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_NkACCbYYRBAW6 . I prefer the baking soda soak and wash. After thorough rinsing follow with Apple cider vinegar.
this one got really good reviews and it's on sale for less than $32. might actually try one myself!
I use this one
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G7AZB96/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works really really well, although you do have to look up what kind of chlorine/flouride is in your city water. I think the info is in the reviews for the product but there's a certain kind that some cities use that pretty much no filter can filter out.
Two other good options are just a basic Zinc Pyrithione shampoo (make sure it’s sulfate free) or sulfur soap. I found the Ketoconazole was just too much for my skin, and washing daily with a much milder soap helped a ton!
It’ll take time to heal - mine took almost two months! I also made sure to keep my shower water filtered in case I was getting buildup on my scalp.

Just buy a tap filter for $20. I have this one and love it.

I think you're going to get the culligan water faucet filter since you have less hours this would be sensible so you have the cleanest water... Idk
Have you tried a Culligan filter? In my old town the tap water tasted like drinking out of a swimming pool, but the filter made it 100% better.
This is the cheapest / best / easiest option I found when I switched to filtered water. It takes out the chlorine flavor. It's really easy to install, and it works well.
You can get an NSF certified water filter for under $20. Among other things, NSF certification ensures that the filtrate and hardware do not contain unsafe levels of lead and that the filter actually removes what it claims it removes (primarily testing for cryptosporidium, giardia cysts, lead, and chlorine).

OK, that makes sense. You can buy one of those filters that goes directly onto your tap if the container filters don't hold enough water. Something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Culligan-FM-15A-Level-Faucet-Filter/dp/B00006WNMI
Before putting the work in to install though I'd recommend trying a simple container filter to make sure you approve of the taste.
I live in an apartment near campus. I read the Pittsburgh water report when I moved in and immediately bought one of the water filters that goes on your sink faucet. The free lead test from Pittsburgh would have taken several weeks and sounded really inconvenient - they drop off bottles outside your building, you have to get them and fill them and leave them to get picked up - I wasn't sure how that would work in an apartment building. The other option for testing is buying your own test kit, but a quality test kit is more expensive than a quality filter, and, based on reviews, a lot of them aren't all that accurate. (although also consider that the filter will need to be replaced periodically - in the long run, it is more expensive than a test kit)
For anyone who doesn't want to read the report, Pittsburgh (14.8 µg/L in 2015) is just under the level at which a city is supposed take action for lead (15 µg/L). So, not technically awful, but kinda scary. Hence my filter :) I got this one. It was $20 and well-reviewed by Consumer Reports.
source
Did you ever consider a faucet mounted filter. It's faster and more convenient than a pitcher while still cheaper than a reverse osmosis system.
Bonus question: I now use a variable temp bonavita kettle so I can set it to any temperature I want but before that I would usually wait till 20 seconds off a boil.
edit: I only have personal experience with the pur filter linked above and I loved it until it cracked. However reading the reviews as pointed out by allwoundup I've discovered this isn't an uncommon occurence. So you may want to consider a different model like a culligan or Dupont. However I haven't had any personal experience with these models so I can't vouch for them.
Beyond testing you can also buy these 3 stage water filters: http://www.amazon.com/PUR-Advanced-Faucet-Filter-FM-3700B/dp/B0009CEKY6
Not too expensive.
it's a water filter that attaches to the sink faucet, kinda like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/PUR-Advanced-Faucet-Filter-FM-3700B/dp/B0009CEKY6
I use one of these just to be safe and it also improves the taste. You might want to take a look - https://smile.amazon.com/Advanced-Faucet-Filter-Chrome-FM-3700B/dp/B0009CEKY6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1474304587&sr=8-3&keywords=pur+water+filter
I'm on a budget at the moment so I need something with a lower upfront cost. I looked around and saw that PUR has a system for $24. Would you recommend this?
I never said to repeal it. Repealing it would be bad. I don't support Trump or Obama. Also, I don't believe those filters completely filter out the lead. At best it's 99.x%, but that's from a really nice filter. What kind of filters did they get? Also, they are still showering in the water. What do you have to say about that? Did they also give everyone shower filters?
I found the first filter crappy that they offer: https://www.amazon.com/Brita-Basic-Faucet-Filter-System/dp/B000EOOQPW/?ie=UTF8&qid=1498673099&sr=8-3&keywords=brita+saff-100
This one is much better that they offer: https://www.amazon.com/PUR-3-Stage-Advanced-7-7-Inch-3-2-Inch/dp/B0009CEKY6/?ie=UTF8&qid=1498673366&sr=8-1&keywords=pur+faucet+mount+fm-3700b
And they offer this too, which I think would be needed: https://www.amazon.com/ZeroWater-Cup-Dispenser-Meter-ZD-018/dp/B003QXM3U8/?ie=UTF8&qid=1498673456&sr=8-1&keywords=ZeroWater+23-Cup+Dispenser+ZD-018
One of these.
I live in Florida and we have relatively hard city water, our PUR filter does very well at removing the chlorine taste. Haven't tried it with well water, however; some friends of ours though have a well and water softener system and that makes it quite drinkable if just a bit salty.
Replaced stock apartment showerhead with this https://smile.amazon.com/75700-Universal-Showering-Components-Handshower/dp/B000LV7VXW/ . Its cheap and plastic, but its been going strong for four years and adds about 8 inches to the height of the shower. Took about ten seconds to install. Plus how the hell did we effectively rinse our taints before removable showerheads?
The 396 gph version isn't much more expensive. To keep from using too much ice, you could start by letting the pot rest on its own for a few minutes (try a hop stand!), then switch to cold tap water through the pump, then switch that out for ice water. The key is just maintaining a high differential between the wort and whatever you're cooling with.
Another option -- and this is a little off the wall -- is to use your shower. You could switch to a handheld shower, get a diverter, or get a showerhead with a splitter that would let you easily swap in your wort chiller. Handheld showers use a pretty standard 1/2" thread.
I always thought these colored shower heads were cool. Here is a nice hand-held one
I don't really have a shower ritual, I do shower at night instead of in the morning. I like to sleep in as much as possible plus I don't sweat that much at night so there is no real issue with no showering in the morning.
rubber ducky
Delta generally has good stuff.
Whenever I can take a nice shower, not a rushed one because I need to get back to chasing my child around, my bathroom becomes a concert zone. I love music in the shower.
edit woops: Rubber ducky!
I have a lot of pain issues and the doctors won't give me enough pain meds to last me. Hot showers help. I sit on a icechest/cooler in the shower stall (no tub) and let the hot water hit me. I do this several times a day to ease the pain. I am disabled so I can't afford to buy one of those showerheads right now. I have been really wanting a nice hand held showerhead like this one and one of these.
So, then I could attach that thing to the stall lower down and put the hand held showerhead in it right above my back and just sit there and let it soothe the pain for awhile.
It's a very nice thing you are doing regardless of who you pick. Peace.
Do you have one of these?
Have you had any problems with thrush?
> fancy shit like detachable showerheads
Here's one for $25 as a retrofit.
No. Get one of these and reach every inch of your body.
I have this one ($27, prime) and love it.
I like showerheads that basically take your skin off on their strongest setting. While this isn't quite that (only because I'm spoiled with one we got from Target that basically abuses you with water pressure), even with the low water pressure we have it works really well for a "not expensive" shower head.
I bought this and I love it. Almost 2 years and I haven't had an issue.

Get this bad boy, seriously this thing is no joke. It amplifies the water pressure by a significant amount. It sprays a large wall of water out at a much higher pressure but doesn't actually use more water. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000LV7W4K/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1426726361&sr=8-1&keywords=delta+high+pressure+shower+head&dpPl=1&dpID=41PwFhf4MzL&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
Here is what you need:

And this shower head is awesome:

Mr. Gasket 2842G Teflon Tape by Mr. Gasket http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BWCFT6/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_Bv7utb18PDVMN
As a fellow 6'5, 200 pounder, may I suggest one of these? The installation is really easy and you don't have to duck down as far.
I had the same problem, you're going to need one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Shower-Arm-S-Style-Chrome/dp/B000MNJJ66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406467543&sr=8-1&keywords=shower+head+pipe
Extremely easy to install, just don't forget the teflon tape
These ones are better!
I'd go with an s curve shower arm instead. I'm 6' 2" and put one on my shower and it works perfectly, the adjustable kind can and will leak eventually.
For a glorious showering experience, try this raincan showerhead. I don't know how lived without it now.
Plumber here, this should help a bit.

PENS!!!!
i really need a color changing water faucet!
$0-5Glow faucets?!
$5-10 Nutella is delicious and everone should try it
$10-20 What can I say, I love...love, salame
$20-50 I've played it once and was hooked
That seems to be ridiculously overpriced for basically adding a 3rd color to the traditional red/blue faucets. ($5.89 + Free Shipping on Amazon) and my company has been selling these forever, currently ($3.99 + Calculated Shipping)
I shot the video for these - the only problem is that they are too long, and would only really work with long-necked faucets.
I really need either this filter or [this one](

Our water managed to eat through the fixture for our sink-mounted one and now it leaks badly and keeps falling off. I took a sip of something poison, but I'll hold on tight. The water filter would help , though.
Edited for formatting.

Amazon but it only has one filter
For anyone wondering the pitcher is a Zero Water 23 Cup Pitcher. I prefer it over Brita because this filter removes all total dissolved solids while Brita only removes 25% or so.
https://www.amazon.com/ZeroWater-Dispenser-Quality-BPA-Free-Certified/dp/B003QXM3U8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=2TP9A5HQ5HGN9&keywords=zero+water+filter&qid=1555434246&s=gateway&sprefix=zero&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1
Buy a Megahome Heavy Duty Distiller then run it through a ZeroWater 23 Cup Dispenser with Free Water Quality Meter this removes all heavy metals, biological waste, poison, neurotoxins, dead animal's, fecal matter, urine, chemical runoff, medications, Mold, Bacteria, Fluoride, Chlorine, Lead, Arsenic, Mercury, PCBs, Perchlorate, Dioxins, DDT, HCB, Dacthal, MtBE
This is the best way to have pure drinking water.
It only takes 5 hours 45 minutes for 1 gallon of water at 500 watts.
You only need vinegar to clean the leftover waste in the distiller just leave the vinegar in it for 15-24 hours and clean the distiller once a month.
And the zero water filter will last a very long time because of pure the water that comes out is, very few PPM come through the distiller and the zero water filter removes these few PPM
It's that simple your kidneys and whole body will thank you.
I use a zero filter. Mostly because the minerals in the water f*ck up my humidifier, but might be useful for you as well. Easier than carrying gallons home from the supermarket and cheaper than a RO filter.

Better than Brita, look up the test.
The filter works really well but has a short life and replacements are expensive
Rubber ducky!
This one, because 2 shower heads are waay better than 1.

One ritual I have is setting the shower head to the highest mode it can go and let it hit my back. Almost as good as a back massage.
I've been drooling over [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Ana-Bath-SS5450CBN-Function-Showerhead/dp/B0043BEUXK/ref=sr_1_cc_3?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1372183825&sr=1-3-catcorr&keywords=shower+heads) shower head for a while now. I guess my only shower ritual is to take a dump while waiting for the hot water to heat up. That and brushing my teeth while on the pot. Not really a shower ritual per se, but close enough.
Don't know your budget but this one looks nice.
I listen to music in the shower usually. It helps my phobia of being alone. I also use a shower chair because I'm disabled and take ten breaths between everything or else I'll be out of breath for 30 mins after. Showering is a big pain in my ass. I don't do it every day anymore.
I'd rather have one of these
http://www.amazon.com/Ana-Bath-SS5450CBN-Function-Showerhead/dp/B0043BEUXK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335396376&sr=8-1

That's where I was first introduced to these, but no longer do I have to travel halfway across the world just to have a clean and warm butthole. You too can poop in paradise for just a few hundred dollars.
but then do I use a towel to dry my tookis? I've never used a bidet and don't know the etiquette . I also saw this bidet that installs under the seat which is a little cheaper. But I think if I got one, I would go all out and get a heated seat, and heater water bidet, something like this, then I could finally shit in comfort.
It's the ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_AeyDCbZ858CXG part of the url that lets amazon know who the referrer is, they get paid a % of the sale depending on the product type. So if it's not you, then whichever referrer you've been to last will get the referral money from anyone who buys this product or anything from amazon for a set amount of time.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HIKQCK/
That's the link without the referral part, but in this case that just leaves more money in Amazon's pocket, so I'd rather it have been your own referral link!

What exactly can't you do with it
So, er, if I bought this from Amazon (it actually was from Amazon.com at the time, not a TP seller), and it came with an offer for a free showerhead if I leave a review... Should I be reporting that? It says to "e-mail us a link to your review along with your choice of free gift and shipping address." It doesn't say anywhere that it has to be a good review, though.
I have a berkey which is great because it's big enough to use for everything. I find when I use any other water source I don't feel 100%
I dunno about just for coffee, but I use a big berkey for my drinking/cooking water. It's awesome, filters last forever, water tastes great.
I was introduced to the Berkey water filter a few years ago, picked one up and haven’t used anything else since. It is a gravity fed filter system, and comes in various size models to fit your needs. The water tastes incredible from a Berkey. There are a bunch of videos on YouTube of folks even filtering lake and pond water to show its effectiveness. They are a bit pricey though, and need to have their filters replaced every 10,000 gallons or so. They also offer a fluoride filter add on if that is something that interests you.

We have this one. It's fantastic. Hooks to both hot and cold lines, avoids OP's rectal scarring.

There are bidet attachments that don't involve replumbing... I have one in my rental and it is a GODSEND. I have IB*D* and lots of tender downstairs issues and it has helped with all of them. Be sure to get one that has a warm water option if you don't like pure cold water.

PREACH. Bought this one a couple years ago, and it's amazing. It's one of the only shower heads I've used that actually works for my height (6'3") too!

i bought these for every floor drain in my kitchen. keep these on top of the standard mesh drains and I greatly reduced all my plumbing issues, they seriously rock.
keeping your staff on top of always having clean drains is super important
Maybe on of these then.
I'd love one of those, but our drain has the type of cover that you lift and twist to lock in the open position. This helps keep most of it out, but some of it manages to get through.
Also invest in something like this: Show Drain Hair Catcher
Keep the problem from happening to start with.
Why not just buy this?
I haven't read every comment so I may be repetitive. There's definitely a lot of specific things that I would bring myself to live with my boyfriend, but here are a few things to help her out that I like having in my own bathroom:
-a small trashcan
-Q-tips
-tissue/Kleenex
-a hair trap for your shower drain (this is the one I use. it's worked the best for me and I have waist-length, thick hair)
-maybe one of those shower hangers so there's extra space to put toiletries
-baby wipes (make sure to always throw them away, even if they say flushable! they can fuck up your pipes)
-lint roller
-baby powder
-small bottle of baby shampoo (I use this for cleaning makeup sponges/brushes)
-Febreze for when you guys blow up the bathroom
Again, these are suggestions and may not be specific to her! Don't feel obligated to get everything. Maybe ask her as well :)
Edit: Just realized I only included bathroom stuff 😐
Get one of these and your life will change.
Yes this is the one on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Luxe-Bidet-Neo-185-Non-Electric/dp/B00P2XZIP2
Not sure how the separate ones work. They usually have a hand held washer. Like you said the one in that picture looks like it would leave shit all over the place.
Not difficult at all! I bought one on Amazon for around $50 and installed it in just a few minutes. Total game changer. Ours is connected to both the hot and cold water, so it was a little longer to install, but if you keep your bathroom warm, a cold water one is probably just fine because it uses water from the pipe and will be room temp.
Here’s the style we got: https://www.amazon.com/Luxe-Bidet-Neo-185-Elite/dp/B00P2XZIP2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1540313336&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=Bidet&psc=1
Yup yup.
Here is a link to something that might help with your bung situation. I've had one for a couple of years (using it as I type) and it was a life changing purchase for me. They also have cheaper models with fewer bells and whistles. Super easy to install.
Have you used toys before?
You really should use toys first. Get used to it. And get a good lube. I really like Lulu lube.
Oh, and get a bidet. You can get one from Amazon for ~$50. Trust me. It makes things much cleaner and takes much less effort than any other prep methods, like an enema. Installing the bidet takes 15 minutes or less, and it makes it possible to do both pre and post cleanup within two minutes, and it makes it possible to do things spur-of-the-moment, rather than requiring planning.
This one is $44.95.

Two words: Bidet seat.

I bought a tub shroom specifically for my girlfriend's hair. Every day I have to hose out all of the clumped up hair.
Tubshroom. It is a device for your shower/tub drain that catches all the hair if you have one without a preexisting cover.
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYRMGCC/ref=asc_df_B01BYRMGCC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=193142326002&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8793323878136775643&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9030231&hvtargid=aud-800703102928:pla-310447835489&psc=1
Recently had a drain go super slow, used a cheap plastic drain snake to get most of the hair/soap scum. Followed by this method and it's flowing perfectly. I would also hiiiiighly recommend a TubShroom (amazon), replaces the normal drain in your tub but keeps all the junk in an easy to get to place.
I bought one a year ago for the tub in my bathroom and it works like a fucking dream. 15 bucks on amazon and catches every single piece of hair. Super easy to clean out too and my drains never clog any more.
Link for the lazy
Here you go, I saved you a LOT of headaches. I just pull this up when Im cleaning the shower at the end of the week/month/whenever the hell I get around to it.
These things are awesome:
TubShroom The Revolutionary Tub Drain Protector Hair Catcher/Strainer/Snare, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BYRMGCC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LnBMzb2H61TCM
But I do recommend that you clean out drain thoroughly before using to ensure maximum flow. I also bought this to compliment the tub shroom:
OXO Tot Silicone Tub Drain Stopper- Aqua https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0038JE650/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_bjBMzbQPSJHNW
Buy the tub shroom. Super effective.
TUB SHROOM!
There’s also a SinkShroom for lazy husband beard hairs.
I use this one. It's pretty pricey for a piece of plastic but really easy to clean out after and well worth it IMO.
I see a lot of people rocking hydoflasks on here, but I prefer this bad boi Coleman flask.
Oh and those curious on the Brita Pitcher, taste is 8/10. Not Fiji water quality but good for every day hydration.
Stay hydrated my friends.
If I'm at home, it will likely be water, either straight from the tap or run through a filter pitcher like this. Sometimes I will have a flavored sparkling water with meals at home. If I'm at work, it will be water from the tap in the fridge.
I recommend you buy a Brita Filter and fill it with sink water. Keep it stocked in your fridge and it'll be ice cold all season long, baby.
what's your budget?
if you have time and money, get a triple reverse osmosis filter from a hardware store and install it under the sink. there a ton of DIY on youtube that explains the install. roughly $170 for the cheaper models.
preferred preference for bottled water is Crystal Geyser, however I'd strongly recommend a Brita filter as they are much less wasteful and personally the difference in taste is negligible...
>Totally filled with caulk and many other kinds of sediment.
tho I'm not sure the Brita's capability to filter out the caulk and sediment... jeez wtf in California do you live?!
Just get a brita filter pitcher. The filters only need to replaced every 3 months and cost like $15 a piece
I applaud your desire, but 221 parts per million of total dissolved solids is actually pretty good. The World Health Organization says that water with a TDS (total dissolved solids) of 1,000 PPM is “acceptable” and under 600 PPM is “good.”
You can do all that you've researched. I have no idea how long you will get out of those filters. Gallons per year is going to determine their longevity; but I wouldn't be surprised if this costs several hundred dollars a year to maintain.
You'd be better off (read as cheaper) to install an R.O. system for drinking, but leave the rest of the house (dishwasher, clothes washer, and toilets) on city water. If you want a nice shower, look at the cartridges:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G7AZB96
Seems like a lot of work for a few hundred parts per million; but of course it is entirely your call.
Get a whole filter if you want, but are your only real issues in teh shower? If so, they make some shower heads that have filters built in. This is super easy to do, but again, just a point of fuse.
This one goes in line before yoru own head

Have you looked at lower volume options like an osmosis filter or one of these?:
Multi-Stage Filter Cartridge
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G7AZB96/
Recently did the same thing. I haven't quite got it figured out but it's getting better.
After I co-wash i do a ACV rinse then condition again. I also wash my hair with ION shampoo from sally's every other week. By far the most improvement I saw was when I bought a filter for my shower.
AquaBliss High Output Universal Shower Filter with Replaceable 3-Stage Filter Cartridge - Chrome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G7AZB96/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1FIkybPRD52SF
Super easy to install, just unscrew your shower head screw this on and then attach your shower head back on. No tools needed! It doesn't filter all the minerals out. They have ones that do but they are expensive and require a bit more work. This did help immensely though.
Like i said, my hair is nowhere near what it was when I moved to Florida 2 months ago but it a hell of a lot better than it was a week after I got down here. Before I installed the filter I was having a hard time combing my hair when it was completely saturated with conditioner.
Good luck!
Edit : Just re-read and saw your did try a new shower head. Damn.
Here's the one I picked up. I researched for a while because there's so many options out there and I've been pretty satisfied with it. Both skin and hair wise.

I bought this AquaBliss but I’m not sure it’s effective enough.
More like this, so you can keep your current shower head. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUBU0YC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-IF0BbQR8DJXR

Hello! I am dealing with something exactly the same right now. About a month and a half ago I purchased this shower head (recommended by my hair lady because my normally silly blonde hair has become straw and brassy):

That said, this didn’t help my skin. This shower head paired with Malibu C shampoo and conditioner helped my hair though. I am actually getting a whole resident water softener installed Wednesday because my skin cannot take it anymore. I was having horrible break outs, my face is constantly peeling and the derm told me I know have contact dermatitis from the water + using my regular skincare routine that contains actives. My skin was HORRIBLE and about 2 weeks ago I stopped getting my face wet in the shower and have only been washing my face with distilled water and using only a little moisturizer and rose water toner and very minimal concealer to let it heal. My guess is if you are also breaking out more frequently, you might have a damaged moisture barrier like me. :( such a pain in the ass but my skin is finally healing. I also purchased a water testing kit and it showed my water to be EXTREMELY hard (500 range). This might help verify if it is actually your water causing you problems, though I would bet money you are spot on.
Thank you. Did you install the filter with this?

Honestly, since you said this started when you moved I think this is all you need. Hard water can cause havoc on your hair: can lead to scalp buildup, dandruff, and hair loss. I think just making this small change will make a huge difference.
I also think you should go back to getting a trim every other month.
Lastly, don’t underestimate the impact biotin can have on your hair! I personally recommend biotin and ashwagandha. The later makes a huge difference on your stress levels, which leads to decreased cortisol production, which means less dandruff!

Apparently someone who didn't know there's a limited choice in TV nowadays.
I haven't bought a new TV in over a decade. Mostly because I was always broke and moving around. Didn't make financial sense to own a nice TV if my next place may not have space for it and the logistics to move it cross-country wasn't appealing.
Now that I'm actually financially stable, I don't think I want a TV. I could spend the money on a new fridge or super toilet seat.
Berkey.
They are not cheap and you won't find them at Wal-Mart, but they're absolutely worth it.
