Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 (US Amazon link)

I know, I know. It's like $8 for a tiny little tube of it. Butbutbut! It's the only SPF lip balm I've ever used that doesn't taste disgusting. It goes on clear and stays clear (I think it's a vaseline base? or something similar), and I'd totally buy it for its lip-balming properties even if it didn't have SPF.

Side note: usually I love mint lip balm, but I didn't like the mint version of this lip balm -- I thought it was weak and kind of spearminty ... or at least not pepperminty. I love the grapefruit ginger one, though.

THICC girl here so I know a thing or two about thigh rubbing.

I used Glide for Her. I actually first heard about it from this sub! It's usually used by runners and the like since they tend to experience a lot of friction in that area when they do what runners do. Anyways, I dig it. I can wear dresses without bloomers again! I wore it on my wedding day and a single application lasted through all the sweating, dancing, everything.

u/cherrytheredvolvo · 10 pointsr/blogsnark

I love looking through these!

Mine are: J Brand Maternity Jeans ... so fucking expensive but feel like light weight leggings, don’t make me feel like a total frump (full panel maternity pants I’m looking at you), AND don’t stretch out after 2 wears so I splurged.

Maybelline Babylips in Cherry- I keep one of these in every bag I own, my desk at work, my car, etc. Super moisturizing and the prettiest sheer red that makes me feel put together if I only have like 4 seconds.

Suave with keratin dry shampoo- I had been spending a fortune on Living Proof dry shampoo and my hair dresser actually recommended this one to me. I seriously like it just as much and it’s $5 a bottle.

My last one is Aldi, yes the grocery store. I’ve started doing all my grocery shopping at Aldi and it’s probably saving me $100-$200 a month, including both the grocery bill from the expensive place I used to go and eating out less because I have so many options to eat at home. Some of my favorites are their bagged salads, spicy guac cups, Southwest quinoa veggie burgers, egg salad (I like to eat on crackers), etc. and of course the produce section that is quite literally half the price of other supermarkets. I haven’t had anything yet that I didn’t like and while it took me a while to adjust, I love my grocery shopping trips there now.

Everything you said is ace, except for the chapstick thing! Petroleum is actually the thing that dries your lips out, aka Vaseline. It forms a barrier over your lips, but that means your lips get no hydration and thus chap, creating the "addiction" to chapstick. Burt's Bees is not petrol-based, so it actually shouldn't dry your lips out, but I find that (Jack Black lip balm)[http://www.amazon.com/Jack-Black-Intense-Therapy-Original/dp/B000MIH34Q] is actually the best for chapped lips. :)

So, first off, I would definitely recommend posting in /r/running. There are lots of people there who have completed C25K and just an overall warm community. We have several themed threads as well as a daily questions thread.

As for getting back into running, there are a few things to consider:

  • Training for specificity. What is your goal? In what time frame do you want to achieve that goal? Wanting to run for an hour will probably be different from wanting to run seven miles depending on your pace. Wanting to run a 6:30/mile will be different from wanting to run an 8:30/mile for a half marathon distance. Wanting to run thirty miles a week will differ from wanting to run sixty miles a week.

  • Setting up for success. One facet of this is measurable, achievable goals (caveat below.) Another is knowing what works for you in terms of when to run and motivation. Are you a morning person or a night owl? How do you mentally compartmentalize workouts -- is it a chore to complete or an enjoyable hobby?

First principles to consider when starting to run (or getting back into running):

  • Run at your pace. Whether your goal is to run continuously for a half hour or continuously for two miles, if you cannot finish either of these, it's not because you can't do it. It's because you can't do it at that pace. Do not be discouraged by running, say, an 11:00/mile. If you track it, in two weeks that could be 10:00/mile etc etc.
  • Know your goal for that workout ahead of time. Do not have amorphous "run as long as I can/feel" goals. Keep a goal with maybe a +/- 1 mile margin (if you're not following a training plan with very deliberate mileage goals.) When it started hitting 80+ degrees here, I found I would absolutely quit if I didn't acknowledge this makes my runs harder, and I needed the mental commitment to finishing X goal or lowering my mileage goal and rebuilding that base.
  • Commit to a schedule beforehand. This is the long-view framing of "Know your goal ahead of time." It's important to understand what you're trying to accomplish for a single workout but also how that feeds into what you're aiming to commit for 1-3 months. Similarly, knowing that you will wake up every M/W/F morning at 7 is easier to commit to than "I will work out three days a week, TBD.") Life happens, and let that happen, but hiccups should be an exception, not the rule.
  • Create a timeline. Know by what time you want to achieve your ultimate goal. You can always train past that but it's useful to know when that schedule is "done" so you can reassess your progress and adjust or try something new, depending on how you feel (for example, you might work up to a 7:30/mile pace for a 10k and decide you'd like to sprinkle some intervals on another day and gauge how that impacts your overall 10k time.)

You mentioned weight loss. Things to consider about how running impacts weight loss:

  • Cortisol levels/train gain. Running long distances can sometimes cause weight gain, especially at longer distances. This is lovingly called "train gain." It's something to be mindful of and a good idea to track weight visually somewhere so you can see this fluctuation and weigh it against your running progress and aesthetic goals. This is something you see more with regular distance training moreso than HIIT because your body is adapting to the prolonged stress on your body.
  • HRM. I strongly recommend getting a heart rate monitor chest strap for accurate caloric measurement. It's not perfect but it's better than a treadmill or online calculator because it can account for beats per minute (BPM). BPM is also an excellent training tool and exceptionally useful for people wanting an objective way to reign themselves in on each run and avoid strain). I also recommend calculating your maximum heart rate and lactate threshold as a good benchmark.
  • Caloric accuracy. Runners tend to overeat. It's an appetite suppressant but we overestimate calories burned and often justify eating up to make the difference. Apps like MyFitnessPal exacerbate this. I recommend calculating your TDEE and looking at your BMR -- if you burn 60 calories an hour just lying around (your BMR), then when you burn 260 calories running in an hour, that's only an additional deficit of 200 calories.
  • The idealization of carbing up. Yes, you need carbs. Carbs good. No, you do not need to eat an exceptional amount of carbs before runs, even long runs. In fact, it can often be a quite useful training method to run on a deficit sometimes. This is usually only a hurdle for people racing but just a heads up.

    WHAT ABOUT MY SHOES/SOCKS/CLOTHES

  • Make sure you have space for your toes with your shoes.
  • Acrylic socks are your friend. My preference is Balega.
  • WEAR SUNSCREEN.
  • Do you have thighs and run more than a half hour? Here. You can substitute with deodorant as well. This product is unnecessarily gendered; you can get the one in the blue container.
  • I recommend looking into discount running shoes. I say this because a lot of people get turned off from running due to pain that is a result of shoes that don't have great cushioning or space in the toebox. A good way to do this is to look for shoes that are "going extinct" because they are usually on sale.
  • Tech tees are your friend for any kind of workout imo, at least if you intend to sweat.
  • re: GPS watches. I think these are immensely useful but you can definitely take the old fashioned approach of pre-planning your route and measuring time with a normal watch, then track in a diary or spreadsheet. I recommend the Garmin Forerunner series; an optical HRM is not necessary if you use a heart rate monitor. Clever Training is a good site for comparing products, too.

    APPLICATIONS

  • If you have a Garmin GPS watch, Garmin Dashboard is useful.
  • If you have a GPS watch and do not like their app, Strava is probably the most sociable alternative (/r/running has a group) and I know a lot of people like MapMyRun.
  • SmashRun. DAAAAAAATA.

I mentioned a caveat about measuring your activity. I burn out quite easily on running, mostly because I am the type of person who goes all out when she enjoys something and then needs a break. That's just something running taught me about myself: I burn bright then burn out. When I have a race, this is easy to police because I know what my end goal is and when I need it to be completed.

But when I'm just doing it to enjoy myself and get outside, I need to ask myself every single time if I want to be out in this 90 degree heat and that, while measuring progress is a great motivator when specifically training for running, I can't expect to see tons of measurable improvement as (1) I am doing many things, not just running (lack of specificity), and; (2) I am not adhering to a program that sufficiently overloads, and; (3) I have become a better runner, which means even if I was training for specificity, the returns would be diminished.

This is what my dermatologist recommended I put on my lips while I was on Accutane, aka the most moisture draining medicine in the world. My lips would have been cracked and bleeding all day without this shit.

Try Aritaum Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O76F274/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ijqWAbTX4P260

I have both, and I think aritaum is better for overnight. It’s stickier and so it has better staying power. Laneige I wear during the day.

u/Sasha_Fire · 6 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Very pretty, I love this palette so much :) I get some really chapped lips as well and if you wanted to try a new product this lip balm is incredible, it takes my lips from splitting to moist if I reapply all day for even one day. The price is usually around 4 bucks in walmart when I find it, I swear by the stuff.

u/open_reading_frame · 6 pointsr/Accutane

Let's clarify that aquaphor has a lip balm that works very very well IMO The regular vaseline is just 100% petroleium jelly and aquaphor is 4x% petroleum jelly, which does serve as barriers with the latter allowing the skin to "breathe" more.

u/Choking-Hazard · 6 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Cheapo pens that the attending will steal and a few nice pens for her to use.
Chapstick of some sort.
Gum/mints for when she will be all up in a patient's grill after drinking 4 cups of coffee.
Fun i.d. badge reel because sometimes that is the only positive thing in your day.
Knee high compression socks to avoid varicose veins from standing 24/7.
Granola bars/Clif bars for when she will have to inevitably skip a meal or two.
*If she doesn't already have one, a digital watch that has the date on it. I can't tell you how many times I check my watch so I know what date to write on forms or to put in notes.

Order the 3 pack. I keep one by my bed, at work, and in my backpack. Give it 36 hours and your lips will be normal. I also put this on insanely dry spots under my make up and it works wonders at holding the flakes down until I'm home.

I think I've posted this link 20 times in this sub, and I've gotten all positive feedback. I bought it on a whim and am about to order a second 3 pack for myself, it's incredible.

u/shelbeam · 6 pointsr/calmhands

Buckle up, this going to be long.

Unfortunately, pretty much all chapsticks are useless long term in hydrating your lips. In fact many actually make them worse. They make you dependent on them and will purposefully dry out your lips so you need to reapply all the time. Chapstick brand is especially bad when it comes to this. But even "good" brands like Burt's Bees won't do much good.

I live in a super dry climate so I've constantly battled dry lips my whole life. Finally did some research a while back and changed my routine. My lips got way better practically over night.

  1. Stay HYDRATED. No matter what products I use on my lips, if I get dehydrated at all, my lips are the first place it shows. They always will get chapped and irritated and won't really get better until the next day after rehydrating myself.

  2. Aquafor(for lips). Using this throughout the day always improves my lip moisture. With chapstick my lips always feel just as dry as they did before a few hours after application. Not with Aquafor. Bonus is it tastes bad because it has sunscreen in it, so that might help you not to bite your lips.

  3. Nightly lip mask. I use lanolin in the form of a nipple cream every night right before I go to sleep. In the morning my lips are hydrated but also have a bunch of soft dead skin that is ready to be rubbed off.

  4. Lip scrub. I like the stick ones by ELF. I use it in the morning to rub off dead skin, but also keep one in my purse along with my Aquafor to use as needed.

Most importantly, you just need to be consistent with this routine. Even if all you can manage is staying hydrated and doing a lip mask every night, it should still make a difference. The lip scrub is what really gets rid of your peeling skin, but you need to use it with the Aquafor, or it will just harm your lips more. Maybe if you use the lip scrub+Aquafor Everytime you get the urge to bite, it will help.

I haven't personally tried these, but I have also heard really good things about using 100% vitamin E oil (under Aquafor) and this lip mask.

    Hope that helps!
u/booksandthebees · 5 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Babe. DO NOT STICK DEODORANT THERE! Get some Body Glide which is the best ever and lasts 1000x longer than deodorant.

Or you could get Bandalettes which stay on and look pretty.

My RIDE OR DIE lip products:

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

Both of these can be had for cheaper elsewhere (Korean sites, and Cult Beauty for the Nuxe) but sometimes you need that prime shipping!! I layer these (the Laneige first) and my lips feel awesome. Since I don't want to dip my fingers in pots during the day, I often use a tube instead. Right now it's the Hanalei Lip Treatment.

I recommend [Dr. Dan's Cortibalm] (https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Dans-Cortibalm-Balm-Count/dp/B00DME6W76/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1520993027&sr=8-4&keywords=dr+dans+cortibalm), it should help with the swelling. On top of that put lanolin - I use this [one]
(https://www.amazon.com/Lansinoh-Breastfeeding-Moisturizer-Preservative-Hypoallergenic/dp/B005MI648C/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1520992749&sr=8-6&keywords=lanolin). The [Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask] (https://www.amazon.com/LANEIGE-SLEEPING-Berry-Sleeping-Treatment/dp/B018AYHZX2/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_194_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6CE1FFJBSM6B0QN5JPNK) is also great. I've been using all of those products and my lips are looking better than they did before accutane. Also, I get buying three things isn't realistic for some folks, so I would suggest getting the Dr. Dan's and putting vaseline over it.

u/wherearemypaaants · 5 pointsr/thebachelor

You gotta get this shit, it's chapstick gold. The only thing that keeps my lips attached to my face.

I also use this overnight lip mask every night. And I do a homemade sugar scrub (put a little bit of coconut oil on an old toothbrush, sprinkle sugar on it til it's fully coated, gently scrub lips) whenever my mouth has hella dandruff.

I've only been on Accutane for a month, but so far, so good with this routine.

You can find the Aritaum lip mask on Amazon.

If you want something cheaper, I really like pure lanolin - it's really sticky and thick, but it works wonders. Something like this is super affordable.

u/NerdyBird23 · 5 pointsr/BabyBumps

Aritaum Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask, 0.3 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O76F274/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nCezCbH9HA2A5

This is the best lip stuff I’ve ever used.

I use coconut oil post shower for neck down and it does the job for me. Although sometimes I need to do extra for my heels and top with Vaseline and socks overnight.

u/veronicaxrowena · 5 pointsr/AsianBeauty

The Aritaum Ginger Sugar Overnight Mask is intense. Keeps your lips sealed through to morning.

u/MsMerriam · 4 pointsr/AsianBeauty

During my routines and sheet masking, I slather all of the moisturizing things I have for my face onto my lips as well. I figure it can't hurt. I've also found that this Neosporin Overnight Lip Renewal is the absolute best thing ever for lips. Every single ingredient is awesome and I buy it over Aquaphor now (I swore by Aquaphor for years). It's a bit more expensive, but it's well worth it and the tub is gonna last me forever.

During the day I keep a thousand ahem few different balms with me (I may or may not be a lip balm addict >_>). C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve is great, as is their Lemon lip therapy stick balm if you're not crazy about dipping your finger into a balm 20 times a day.

For an AB rec, I'm considering this DHC balm once I run out of a couple of the balms I have. Or when I can't resist buying new lip balm anymore. Which is probably what will happen first. The ingredient list is killer.

I very strongly recommend staying away from Burt's Bees, Chapstick, Blistex and things like that because they all contain irritating ingredients that can (and usually do) dry out your lips more. Also, I don't recommend applying straight Vaseline, because that's meant to bind moisture to your skin. If there's no moisture to speak of, it can't do its job properly and your lips won't feel much better.

When you say they look terrible, what do you mean? Like flaky? Irritated? Just generally chapped?

Edit: Words are hard sometimes.

I completed multiple rounds in my teens and, while it’s great that you’re having relatively mild reaction to the medication, not all of us are that fortunate - I highly suggest folks with more severe chapped lips to check out Dr. Dan’s medicated chapstick.

It’s typically suggested by doctors for patients on Accutane to those receiving chemotherapy and it saved my lips during those years.

https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Dans-CortiBalm-Patented-Formula/dp/B00DME6W76

I always got mine from the pharmacy so I’m not sure how this Amazon product compares, but ask your dermatologist.

Good routine though! Keep pushing through the dryness and enjoy things clearing up!

You are describing exactly what happened to my daughter. Turns out she has an extreme allergy to dairy and when she was put on a formula with no traces of dairy, her rash went away. I eventually got completely off dairy so she drinks breastmilk again but the formula would also work for her still. Here's what we did for her (that worked) while we got her GI system healed up:

-Use Water Wipes. They're a little more expensive than regular wipes but they only have water in them so they don't irritate the open sores

-Air her bottom out completely after wiping her

-Gently put z-guard on the sores, then slather on bag balm (a family member always swore by this for really terrible diaper rash and we found out he was right!)

Aritaum Ginger Sugar Lip Mask is amazing. This is a serious lip balm; it's heavy & tacky but it will moisturize the bejeebus out of your lips. As far as I can tell, Aritaum (& the parent company AmorePacific) is considered cruelty-free. If you are looking for something lighter in weight & with more slip, for more casual use, I second the vote for Jack Black's Balm

u/gotti9660 · 3 pointsr/Accutane

1). Dr. Dan's Cortibalm for your lips (you will thank us later).

2). [CeraVe in the tub] (https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizers-Moisturizing-Cream-Ounce/dp/B001V9SXXU) - Use this at night before bed, and in the morning when you are getting ready.

3). Depending on how your skin takes to the accutane, you may also want to use a moisturizing cleanser, such as CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

Theres also a FAQ on this sub, which I'd suggest taking a look at. Good luck with your treatment!

I've dealt with very dry lips my entire life - peeling and various other issues. Tried every type of lip balm you could imagine and, although they helped, they never quite fixed the problem. I've made a post about this once before in my history a few months ago.

Well, long story short, I finally (at 30) found something that worked well for me. Link here: http://www.amazon.com/Neosporin-Health-Overnight-Renewal-Therapy/dp/B002P8OG4G

Basically, what I do, is I just cake this on my lips before I go to bed. When I wake up, I wash it off. When I start using it, it'll make my lips like a normal persons after about 2-3 days.

The main ingredient is white petroleum jelly so there's probably other alternatives out there that will work, but I haven't tried any yet. Also, this may work for me better than most because I think my lips get dry due to the way I sleep, so it protects it during my sleeping hours. To me, though, it's like magic: I've never used anything else (hydrating or not) that was very effective on me.

u/VarsitySlutTeamCapt · 3 pointsr/BurningMan

my tricks:
Gel manacure before hand is such a wonderful thing! My nails stayed nice and the polish didn't chip at all.

Keeping makeup in a Tupperware in the cooler will keep it from melting or getting weird.

I seem like the minority but I love wearing my long hair down as often as I can, and I found braids are too damaging for my hair so I just stay away from them. Using leave in conditioner after showering kept my hair from getting staticy and crazy.

I have a very large chest and found that putting deoderent under and inbetween them really helps with the boob sweat issue! I also got a tube of this stuff to use in between my thighs to avoid chafing. I tried it out while I was at disneyland for 2 days in 100F weather and It worked like a charm!

This applies to anyone, but I brought one of these organizers last year and it felt like a lifesaver on staying tidy in my tent. I put underwear and socks in one drawer, tights and hats in the next, and other various accessories and costumes in the bottom drawer. It made it so much easier when I would be drunk and stumbling back to camp for a quick change. I also found that trying on and planning each outfit before I arrived to really help too. I don't like to fuss around with what i'm wearing too much when i'm out there so having everything ready to go was so nice.

u/corcar86 · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

Something other brides reported back on after getting married was to make sure you have some sort of anti-chaffing aid. I added this one to my Amazon wishlist that someone recommended. Honestly it's not something I ever would have thought of but they made the point that wedding dresses, especially if they have a lit of layers or beading etc. may cause chaffing under the arm or between the thighs.

u/CJMaybe · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use this, bodyglide for her during long runs when my shorts rub on my legs. It should work perfectly for what you need it for. It keeps your skin from sticking and getting irritated. I bought mine at a local sporting goods store. Not sure if it's sold worldwide. But I'd imagine any anti-chafing product should work similarly.

u/ahatmadeofshoes12 · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

It depends, different people have different experiences with lip balm. I've had issues for a long time with this and at this point I've given up on most drugstore lip balms. This article really helped me to find something better because it sums up ingredients to look for and ones to avoid. I personally tend to look for balms with a lot of Shea and cocoa butter and natural oils and I no longer will buy anything with menthol, artificial fragrance or flavor, or alcohol. Palmer's cocoa butter formula about destroyed my lips with the cetyl alcohol in it before I discovered that article (didn't realize because when first applied it feels super moisturizing). I actually starting using Palmer's because it's one of the few that aren't flavored or medicated with menthol or camphor (I.e. Chapstick, Bert's Bees, Carmex, Eos Blistex) and all of those cause irritation for me.

I recently started using the Nuxe Reve de Miel Balm and it's been a game changer for me. I tried it based on recommendation from BeautywithEmilyFox who is known for switching absurd amounts of lipsticks and she says this is what allows her to do that despite living in Canada and having dry skin. It's more of a lip treatment then a typical balm and it is waxy enough that it takes forever to evaporate so most nights it's mostly still there in the morning. Ingredients wise there are no added fragrance or flavors, no alcohol or numbing agents, just a mix of bee's wax, oils, and dimethicone to keep it from drying out. I'm a liquid lipstick addict so having something that repairs overnight makes a huge difference and my lips have actually looked fuller and smoother since I've switched. It's expensive, but you get more than double the product in a tub compared to most other lip balms and a little goes a long way so I haven't gone through it very fast compared to other lip balms. So personally I think it is well worth the $15 price.

But overall consider ingredients very carefully because a lot of balms contain things that can be irritating.

Paula's Choice Lip Screen SPF50 is pretty good. I can't have anything with fragrance or strong irritants, so it's not easy to find something that works for me.

It's not SUPER hydrating, but it is better than most lip balms/chapsticks available at the drugstore.

Aquaphor Lip Repair SPF30 works in a pinch, though. If you don't have anything else with you, and you're fiending for some lip balm.

u/kiwimangoes · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use one if I'm not wearing regular lipstick (ie, just running errands and not going someplace social.) I use Aquaphor Lip Repair + Protect Lip Balm Sunscreen SPF30.

u/mastiii · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

$60 is a lot to spend on a lip balm. Ceramides are good. I doubt that "essential rose wax" does anything except maybe smell good. CeraVe sells an ointment that can be used as a lip balm, and it has ceramides in it. I think it's less than $5. If you want something that smells nice maybe Smith's rosebud salve? I haven't used it but it probably smells nice.

Preventive moisturizing with this:
Aveeno Skin Relief Intense Moisture Repair Cream, 11 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0067H6G26/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DB4JAbMW3R9HS

And for my lips this:
Dr. Dans Cortibalm Lip Balm for Chapped Lips, 3 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EXPRM7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rC4JAbZT3KYZN

The skin lotion is lasting literally forever. It’ll probably last the whole six months. I also doubled down on water. Idk if it’s because my skin was SO oily before though. After a few hours my makeup and skin oil looked like oil and water separating. My glasses had oil. It was disgusting. The slow healing does suck since I cracked a tooth and it got pulled. Healing took forever, it’s no joke.

u/timory · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

A lot of people on /r/SkincareAddiction recommend Laneige sleeping mask for lips, which didn't do the trick for me, but is excellent for most. I recently stumbled on this stuff on Amazon and grabbed it and I love it. It will still be on your lips in the morning and it tastes like citrus. My perpetually chapped lips are smooth now.

u/yismet · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

There are a lot of brands in this offer I know nothing about, but there are a few things I can recommend:

La Roche Posay sunscreen, such as the Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen or the Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen. These American LRP sunscreens still aren't as great as the European versions, but they still work very well and I like how they sit on my skin.

I also love the LRP Toleriane moisturizer, but it is much cheaper where I live; I'm not sure it is worth the money with all great, cheap moisturizers available in America.

Mario Badescu buffering lotion is HG status for me. Nothing, not even prescriptions, work as well as this lotion on my cystic acne. I've never tried the drying lotion, which is for non-cystic acne, but I've seen it recommended here a number of times.

Also, seriously, the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25. Technically, this is a skin care line for men, but who cares? I've read some good things about their moisturizers here, but never tried one. I maybe own the lip balm in every flavor....

u/djdumpling · 2 pointsr/eczema

This jack black one? Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25, Natural Mint & Shea Butter 0.25 ounce. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MIH34Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PANSDb4R2AB9B

u/lgbtqbbq · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I love my Jack Black SPF 15 lip balm. It comes in a lot of flavors. Maybe Lemon Chamomile or Grapefruit & Ginger would be suitable citrusy alternatives to your existing one.

Alternately you can layer a plain utilitarian SPF balm like the Banana Boat one over your favorite lemon balm.

u/area--woman · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I need to excavate tidy my cube, but among the things I actuality use are:

  • Several kinds of painkiller, because it sucks when you ask to bum an ibuprofen and all they have is aspirin.
  • Nail file and cuticle nippers, because I will chew my damn fingers off if given the chance.
  • Microfiber glasses/screen cloth.
  • A sizeable stash of granola bars and/or a couple bucks for the vending machines.
  • Extra lighter.
  • Shark week supplies.
  • Blotting papers.
  • Emergency tea.
  • Fabric bandaids. (Protip: for fingertips, cut the sticky bits lengthwise.)
  • This stuff and this stuff.
  • Hair elastics.
  • Throat drops and/or honey sticks.

    edit: addition, formatting
u/lobster_johnson · 2 pointsr/Psoriasis

Start with hydrocortisone (a very weak steroid which is safe to use on the face). There are lip balms that contain hydrocortisone, such as CortiBalm.

Possible next steps:

  • Calcitriol (brand names: Rocaltrol, Vectical), a natural vitamin D derivative that's a close cousin to calcipotriene. Unlike the latter, calcitriol is safe for moderate use on the face. Comes as a cream.
  • Desonide (brand name: Desonate), a weak steroid. Comes as a cream.
  • Tacrolimus (brand name: Protopic), a topical immunosuppressant that comes as a cream. Unlike steroids, it does not incur a risk of skin atrophy with prolonged use.
u/casr7 · 2 pointsr/Accutane

CORTIBALM. USE IT!!!! My dermatologist's assistant recommended it when she told me that she used it while she was on Accutane. It has Hydrocortisone in it and blows every other product out of the water. It's seriously a life saver.

u/picklesforbrains · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

When that happened to me, I used 1% hydrocortisone for a few days. The base of the cream burned a little, so I switched to some Cortibalm I had leftover from my Accutane days. Amazing! I suspect it would cause breakouts if used longterm, but I only used it for 2 days.

Active: 1% Hydrocortisone. Inactive: Beeswax, Petroleum Jelly, Mineral Oil.

u/snoring_portal · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I feel you so hard. Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy is the only lip balm i'm still using now that the weather has taken a down turn. Within twenty minutes my lips go from cracked, peeled mess to soft, smooth, and saturated.

Ingredient list: white petroleum 77.4% Inactive ingredients: lanolin, paraffin, cocoa butter, mineral oil, flavor, VP/eicosene copolymer, ethylhexyl palmitate, titanium dioxide, tribehin, vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate), sorbitan isostearate, sodium pyruvate, vitamin A palmitate, corn oil, cholecaliferol, palmitoyl oligopeptide.

Aquaphor. I found the one specifically for lips wasn't as effective and just kind of slides off! Burts bees, Carmex, Blistex, Chapstick and Vaseline (usless is layered over something else like Aquaphor) do nothing for me. During the day I use this blue Nivea lip balm and at night I slather the bejeezus outta my lips with Aquaphor.

u/alanayvonne · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I have a similar problem, which just developed recently, the only lip balm that helps me is Aquaphor. All of a sudden all of my lip balms stopped working on my chapped lips and scrubs etc. did not help.

Sounds like fun! I'll have to do this later

1.) Something that is grey: Pelican Gray Nail Polish. (on private WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain: Shower Curtain is a barrier between the bathroom tiles and cascading, rain-like, waterfall that flows from the showerhead. (on dream WL)

3.) Something food related that is unusual: Candy Mold. Chocolate frogs, anyone? (on under $5 WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!): Ice Cream Maker. No ice cream for me because I started keto last week. My friends and family would benefit from this when I make them some delicious ice cream. (on dream WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!: The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's book one of the Chaos Walking trilogy, which has rave reviews. Apparently it's a dark, dystopian book full of suspense. (on high priority WL)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!: Laser Finger Beams (not on WL)

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...): Westside Warrior Nail Polish. Lions, which are really big cats, are warriors of the jungle. (on under $5 WL)

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Origami Star Paper. I like folding these, but once I make them into stars, I literally have nothing to do with them. There's jars of them all across my house and all I can do is look at them (on under $5 WL)

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?: Song from Iron Man 3 Soundtrack. Everyone should see it because Iron Man + Tony Stark + RDJ = <3 (on digital WL)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.: Spin-the-shot. If zombies attack, I would need to be drunk, so this would come in handy for some last minute fun before I turn into a brain eating zombie. Let's face it, I'm not surviving a zombie attack... (on $5-$10 WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: Coconut Oil. Everyone on the keto subreddit raves about this stuff. Being a newbie to this lifestyle, I feel that if so many people had great results using this oil, that it would help with my goals. (on $11-$25 WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Anti-stress face mask (not surprisingly, found on my add-on WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?: Globe Bar. I would feel like a super cool James Bond-esque spy who would have a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf. Plus I love alcohol and globes. (on dream WL)

14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Desk Easel. (on $11-25 WL)

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Earrings. (on private WL)

16.) Something that smells wonderful: Pink Punch Baby Lips (on add-ons WL)

17.) A (SFW) toy: Kindle. I would consider this a techie toy. (on dream WL)

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: Fun Colored Pens. (on add-on WL)

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: Paints. My current obsession is painting! (on $11-25 WL)

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Mug. I love love love this literature mug. I not only love the varying typography all over it, but I think that there are some really striking first lines of literature. (on $11-25 WL)

BONUS

1.) Real name: PM sent

2.) Made in Oregon: Handwarmer Mug

Edit: raffle phrase - fear cuts deeper than swords

u/gringlemcringleberry · 2 pointsr/steroids

Dr. Dan’s Cortibalm is great for dry accutane lips.

u/CaptainKate757 · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I'm late to this thread, but without a doubt, Cortibalm.

I started using it when I was taking Accutane (it was recommended by my dermatologist) and I've been using it ever since. It's far an away the best lip balm I've ever used. It doesn't make your lips drier like most drugstore chapsticks tend to do (at least, they did to me), and it lasts a really long time. Even eating and drinking won't wipe it off completely.

u/so_obviously_a_Zoe · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is amazing for overnight lip treatment! So is Aritaum Ginger Sugar Lip Mask

u/thatgirlgeorgie · 2 pointsr/Makeup

As others have suggested, overnight masks do wonders! My personal favorite is the Aritaum Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask (Aritaum Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask, 0.3 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O76F274/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2G82Db1700A86). It is very sticky but if you put it on right before bed it'll do wonders in 2 days. Now that it's winter it's a staple for me, and the tub lasts forever. I find it easiest to apply with a lipstick brush or q tip because it's not too water soluble (which is why it works so well!)

u/eljip · 2 pointsr/muacjdiscussion

not a chapstick exactly and you might have to order it online, but the Aritaum Ginger Sugar lip mask is really nice. I usually use a sugar/scrub of some kind (you can make your own or lots of brands have them, lots of people like Lush and the ELF lip exfoliators are really cheap and work well, too). then I throw some of this mask on and wake up to soft, non-chapped lips. for day to day balms, I use glossier balm dot com or Epically Epic lip balms (she uses vegan ingredients and has so many nice "flavours" and scents! I love the balms, they are so moisturizing and fun).

I think I bought my lip mask from roseroseshop's eBay and it was cheaper than Amazon.

u/chelseaannt · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

No worries! I hope what I recommended made sense haha

Also, saw your note about a lip mask and I’ve been using this one for a few days and I love it! When I get up in the morning my lips still feel soft. I even ventured to using it during the day occasionally to keep my lips feeling hydrated.

u/Malor · 2 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

The super heavy-duty stuff we used when I was a kid was Bag Balm:

https://www.amazon.com/Vermonts-Bag-Balm-Conditions-Lanolin-Based/dp/B01F38WKRE/

... which is intended for cows, and has a fairly strong smell (menthol, maybe? It's been a very long time), but worked extremely well as a human treatment.

For something that's easy to find in a drugstore, Eucerin is decent.

u/karlsmission · 2 pointsr/tifu

OP, as someone who has suffered often at the hands of chafing, get some bag balm and slather all your sore bits with it. It's often found in the pet section at Walmart, and sometimes at drug stores, but it will get you back in your shorts faster than anything else.

u/damn-croissants · 1 pointr/AustralianMakeup

it's really nice! i have the shea butter one and it's super moisturising and has a nice mild scent. i don't know if i'd go out of my way to get it but i'm glad that i've been able to try it.

and are you sure about amazon? when i go to this page it says that it will ship to my postcode

u/acidambiance · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

It's on amazon too :)

u/BashfulHandful · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

So I have sensitive lips - most treatments just leave my lips still chapped and irritated in the morning. I LOVE this balm: Jack Black Intense Therapy. This works during the day (doesn't leave your lips looking super shiny), but I adore putting this on at night. I use it like a "lip pack" lol, and pack it on in a decent layer. Every time I wake up, my lips are incredibly soft and smooth.

It's seriously my HG lip product. I've also used this under lipstick and it stays smooth - no clumping or drying up.

You can also get this at Whole Foods if you have one near you - I always order through Amazon (bc very lazy), but I've seen them at Whole Foods a few times. :) I hope you find what you're looking for!

u/polarlicht · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I'm a connoisseur! I live in Colorado so I feel your pain completely. If you can stand to spend ~$7 on a tube, this is the best thing out there - worth every cent. Nivea balms are a cheaper alternative; definitely not as good, but fine!

u/audreyshake · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Thanks! I've always found Chapstick a little too waxy for my taste—I've been using Burt's Bees—but this post has motivated me to go hunting for something I'd like. (I'm ordering this off Amazon.) I don't want wrinkles or cancer!

Also, would Neutrogena's Dry Touch be an appropriate body sunscreen? I've been using some horrible stuff I picked up at the grocery store (Banana Boat?) that feels oily and gross, especially when I sweat. :\

I am awesome at performing. I feel strange writing that as I feel like I'm bragging. I am not the best but have a passion for performing. It is amazing. I love doing community theater and have done several shows lately. [Narnia, as a tree/dryad] (http://imgur.com/Sf1rqQM), [The Wizard of Oz, Manicurist/Optomistic Voice] (http://imgur.com/3k7ZUJE), [Hello Dolly, First Cook/Chorus] (http://imgur.com/9bQ70s1), and [Sound of Music, Sister Berthe] (http://imgur.com/ZtALHiI)

Hi Patti! Wow, okay, I definitely felt the excitement from reading this post... I think I read it a little bit faster in my head due to the word EMERGENCY! :)

Edit: So I went with option #2 and shopped off Amazon because I <3 Amazon :P

  • L'Oreal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in Natural Beige - $8.97
  • Revlon Custom Eyes Shadow and Liner, Beach Beauty - $5.33 + free shipping through seller NIRAD71065
  • Blistex moisturizer, Simple and Sensitive - $1.99
  • Maybelline New York Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm, Peach Kiss - $2.97

    Total: $19.26

    Example makeup routine:

  • Use the moisturizer I had as part of my skincare routine as a primer.
  • Apply L'Oreal foundation with my fingers.
  • Mix the Revlon eyeshadow/eyeliner with the Blistex moisturizer to create a tinted brow gel and then use to fill in my brows.
  • Apply eyeshadow with the little foam brush that comes with the Revlon palette.
  • Mix water with the Revlon eyeshadow/eyeliner palette to create liquid eyeliner. Apply with the little foam brush.
  • Coat index finger in a little bit of Blistex moisturizer and take eyelashes between thumb and index finger to make them shiny. Press upwards to curl.
  • Use a tiny amount of the Maybelline Baby Lips as blush.
  • Apply Maybelline Baby Lips to lips. If desired, add Blistex moisturizer over it for a lip gloss effect.

Okay, so lots of improvising in my routine, but I covered it all! If I'm lucky enough to win (crosses fingers), I'd love prize option #2 for the gift card and I'm in the US.

I think I included everything! This was super fun and now I have a drugstore makeup survival plan! Thanks for hosting :)

WATERPROOF!
My favorite long wear product is by far Ulta's Raincoat Waterproof Mascara Top Coat. Why? Because I can add it on top of any of my favorite mascaras and it instantly makes it waterproof. And it works! Just the other day I added it on top of Tart Gifted and spent 4 hours in the pool. It didn't run at all! I swear by this stuff! And it comes off easily with a remover. :-) thank you so much for hosting.

It's pretty good! I will say I like Quenched a little better than the Pink Punch. It's not easy to tell from the swatch I posted, but Pink Punch leaves a little bit of a white cast on me. I haven't tried it over a color yet, so that might help-I just used it on bare lips :)

Hello fellow makeupaddictioner!! I'm OBSESSED with makeup and hair so you're in luck, lol!

First things first: Makeup!
For a very natural, professional, and simple makeup look these are my go to essentials:

  • foundation any type that suits your fancy! My personal favorite is Bare Minerals because it gives a super matte, flawless finish that looks like your skin with minimal effort. I literally just dip my brush in, dust off the excess and swipe that bitch on my face...lol

  • concealer only if you need it/have time. I only do it half the time...lol

  • bronzer I use this just to warm up my face after I apply foundation. Sometimes when you apply foundation it can cause your face to look very flat and one dimensional. Applying bronzer to all of the areas that would naturally get sunlight gives your face depth and dimension.

  • Simple Neutral Eyeshadow No need to get fancy here just a simple neutral eyeshadow will do the trick :) I don't even use multiple colors just one color I like.

  • Blush I apply just a small amount on the apples of my cheeks. My personal favorite is Elf blush in Berry Merry.

  • Mascara I'm sure you know all about mascara!

  • Chapstick I like to use chapstick rather than an actual color when I'm going with a no makeup makeup look.

I think these essentials are perfect for the professional world. The makeup isn't overbearing and it gives you the appearance that all you had to do was wake up and wash your face... that you woke up flawless which I think is infinitely more effective/professional/approachable than piling on tons of makeup.

    Here are some links:

  • Foundation

  • Concealer

  • Bronzer

  • Eyeshadow

  • Blush

  • Mascara

  • Chapstick

Also, here is a tutorial! I really like her and it's very simple and something I would do everyday not just for traveling :)

Now onto Hair... Are you still with me?? lol.

Here are my three favorite "Professional" hairstyles:

  • The Sock Bun

  • The Chignon

  • Ponytail

I think all of these hairstyles will work great with thin hair! Especially the Chignon and the Ponytail!

Here are the tutorials (All for thin hair):

  • The Sock Bun

  • The Chignon

  • Ponytail

I hope you found this really helpful! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask :) I love helping!!

    Bonus - Hair Accessories:

  • Sock Bun Helper

  • Hair Cuff

  • Headband

  • Another Headband

  • Peacock Barrette

    The End! lol :)

    Edit: I'm bad at words.

I'mma say Baby Lips in Peppermint. I have Pink Punch and it's amazing, but I'd like a non-pigmented one for my non-pink days.

u/FourEyedManwhore · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I used this when I was on Accutane.

u/MsYutai · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Hmm, during the day I'd recommend any regular balm with SPF in it, applied lightly. But at night-time I recommend slathering on a thick layer of Smith's Rosebud Salve-- it's kind of like vaseline but with extra healing properties, and this really hydrates the poo out of my lips, such that I can wear drying lip products during the day and be fine!

I LOVE this stuff. I'm 11 days in and my lips are actually smoother than before I started. I have hardly made a dip in it and I've used it multiple times a day. $8 Canadian for those in Canada :)

Including shipping, sorry! But dang, that looks awesome :) Right now I'm using the ELF sugar scrub stick to exfoliate. Have you seen the cake batter exfoliator?

u/pizza_cats_beer · 1 pointr/muacjdiscussion

I'm a nibbler. I've been wearing the ginger sugar lip mask when I feel I'm likely to nervous chew, and it's thick enough to keep me in check. It also doesn't budge if I leave it alone, and works well with a bit of lip stick/liner as a tinted balm. (It's also pretty good at helping me avoid peelies when I use it for the intended purpose, especially if I remember to wait until after I hydrate/moisturize so it can really lock that stuff in)

Reflections:**
It's been a little over a year since I seriously got into skincare. At this point I'm quite satisfied with my routine and will finish all my products through. A few changes that may come:

  1. After I finish the Mad Hippie Vitamin C, I may try one with L-AA instead of SAP.
  2. I just repurchased the Trilogy Rosehip Oil but it has a strong earthy smell that is a little unpleasant; I may search for an alternative.
  3. The Fresh Black Tea Mask was great when I was first getting into skincare -- it did wonders for my dehydrated skin -- but I've noticed diminishing returns as I've actively improved my skin's moisture so I will likely not repurchase.
  4. I'm not 100% satisfied with my serum and moisturizer. I wish they were a little more moisturizing; however I have not been able to find anything better without being too heavy.
  5. PC's 2% BHA is great; I just find it annoying because I need to let it sit for at least 20 minutes for it to be effective. Would love to find an alternative that doesn't require such a long wait time.

Regarding Paula's Choice Hydrating Treatment Mask under "Moisturizer" -- this is my "cheating" routine. I use this on those occasional late nights when I've been out too long and cough am still too drunk to do my full routine. I make sure I double cleanse to get all the makeup and grime off my face, but I know I cannot get through my full routine so I slather this on to ensure my face is properly moisturized. This does wonders as an emergency 1-step-post-cleanse routine, but I do not recommend doing it on a regular basis.

I also want to note: although it's called Shu Uemura Skin Perfector Makeup Artist Oil, I use it at night as my last step (or 2nd to last step, if I'm going to use the Sulwhasoo mask).
u/jezekiant · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

okay I just bought this lip mask from Amazon, and my lips went from super textured and flaky to smooth and pump in 2 days. I'm pretty sure it's magic. My lips have NEVER been like this.

u/spineless-speech · 1 pointr/Accutane

I'm almost done with my course, and I've had a really smooth journey. here's what I think helped before I started:

I started using this hyaluronic acid lotion about two weeks before my course started and I think it made a pretty big difference, my skin was more moisturized than normal when I went into my course and never got painfully dry

I also drank a gallon of water a day for two weeks before my course, I only stopped because the semester started and I couldn't stand having to pee that much at school lol. of course I can't say how much the water really helped, but it definitely didn't hurt.

last recommendation is bag balm which I have used for the past year or two (well before my course started) and I've had absolutely minimal problems with my lips thanks to it. it smells weird but I swear by it. the only times my lips have started to tear in the corners are the few times I forgot to use it overnight

u/raechristine · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

my 7 month old just went through this. it sucks, i feel for you! i used the pampers pure wipes instead of regular wipes and he seemed to not hate those as much. water wipes are good too, but i couldn't find them in the store.

for diaper cream, i alternated between the critic aid clear ointment and bag balm. the critic aid clear was what the NICU used on my niece and nephew and it is pretty magical. as other people mentioned, i feel like desitin and butt paste sometimes make diaper rashes worse for some reason! also, warm baths with a little baking soda can help.

good luck!! i hope her belly is better soon.

u/Lucky-Prism · 1 pointr/SkincareAddicts

Bag Balm. Not even kidding. It started as a product for cow udders and I use it on my dog’s pads but it works amazing for my hands as well. It is a cult classic for really bad dry skin, and skin with open sores. It has Lanolin which is very good for dry skin. It smells kinda like a farm but it’s the best thing that works on my chapped hands.

u/DaedalusThePolished · 1 pointr/RandomActsOfPolish

It's pretty much a heavy moisturizer ointment. If you have it, it would probably be in the foot care section of your local pharmacy/convenience store.

Try out Jack Black

I bought a 4 pack on Amazon, the lemon sucks, but the shea and mint are good. It came with a cherry which was surprisingly not bad (it doesn't smell like cherry chapstick, it actually smells like real cherries)
