One my wife picked. It's a Playshion board from Amazon.
She wasn't sure if she would like riding and didn't want to spend too much.

For light cruising it's fine but I don't think I would ever want to do any serious down hill with it

Hello Reddit, I'm moving to a home about a mile away from the subway soon and decided instead of catching the bus that I'll get a longboard a ride instead. I'm a newbie when it comes to this so I just want to be steered in the right direction. I'm looking into these decks right now from Amazon, what do you all think? Should I look into a specific brand? What's decent for cruising? Sorry for all the questions, just want to make a good decision. I don't want to exceed 150 dollars on the deck and accessories.

Ride on buddies. Appreciate any help <3

It's a toy. No range. 1.5 km. No speed.

Read the reviews from amazon.ca I've posted here, not the Amazon.com ones, and you'll get a more honest idea of what to expect.

Specs:

  • 2x 6374 180kv motors

  • MBS all-terrain wheels

  • 2x pulley kit (36:13)

  • 2x motor mounts

  • Caliber II Trucks (I have wider Torqueboard 218 trucks coming so I can mount both motors inside)

  • Antispark switch

  • FSESC 200A

  • 2x 6s 6000mAh Lipos

  • Deck from a longboard I bought like 4 years ago

  • Both enclosures were 3d printed with ProtoPasta carbon fiber and TPU washers that vary in thickness to compensate for the contours of the board (my own design).

  • bearings

  • Dual charger

  • other various screws, nuts, wires, connectors, solder, etc

    Total Cost: Approx. $1200

    Additional notes:

  • This was my first time using this brand of carbon fiber filament and I have to say its insanely strong, knocking on the back of the case, which is only 5mm thick, feels like knocking on a brick wall, its nothing like any filament i've ever used before and prints surprisingly well but will destroy brass nozzles (which cost pennies anyways).

  • I've gotten it up to 26mph so far, with plenty of throttle left to go (I'd honestly say I didn't hit over 50% throttle). It's been about 2 years since I've rode my longboard, and I've only tried a friends boosted board once about a year ago, so I still need to build up to going fast. A more experienced rider got it up to 29mph and said he still had throttle to spare. So so far no one has been willing to top it off, I'll report back once I get some numbers. I will say that it accelerates faster than most if not all brand name boards.

  • Yes I am aware that I fucked up my rear motor, I have since fixed the issue... Whoops.

TeamGee looks like your best option from amazon. Link Besides TeamGee and Boosted, all the other boards are basically Chinese rebrands that probably aren’t worth buying.

u/kantho11 · 2 pointsr/ElectricSkateboarding

I'll be sure to link the video in this post as soon as I get some decent footage. I also purchased another relatively unknown board off amazon which should be here tomorrow for the same price. This board however claims dual 350watt motors(700w total) with the same battery capacity but a lower voltage/topspeed of 29.4volts/12.5mph. Board is shorter at 32" and with smaller diameter wheels but should have much more torque to get me up the hills without embarrassment.

u/dseraphm · 2 pointsr/longboarding

How is this board for a beginner? I'm basically just looking for a board to cruise around with friends in a flat area. 5'9" 135 pounds. I welcome any other recommendations around that price range as well.

u/gitterwibbit · 2 pointsr/longboarding

Thanks for your input, but I'm really not looking to learn all of this stuff. I really just want to get a decent board online or somethin', fully setup, and be done. Sorry if I sound ignorant, but I just wanna get somethin' good and be done.

I'm thinking of picking up one out of these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008EZNY4W/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NR4MCUW/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B008EZNYOW/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

Which would ya say is the best in terms of durability, stability, and handling. I'm really looking for something that can make swift turns, pick up speed, and be stable.

Sorry that I'm incredibly uninformed on how all this works. But I really just wanna pick up a solid, decent board that can do those things.

Also, my neighborhood has some rocky, bad roads, sometimes. Sometimes its solid, sometimes its jagged. Which one of those boards above can keep up with it while still being stable?

If those can't do the job, could you link something that could thats >100$?

u/CrimsonPony · 2 pointsr/longboarding

ill be honest im not really into building one ya know.

is this something that would be okay?

or something like this?

u/regionalmanagement · 2 pointsr/longboarding

Ive had this board for about 15 months. For most of it i didnt use it because I live in Florida with no hills or many good places to do tricks but I picked it back up again and Im 10 times better now. I can do slides and Im starting to master other tricks. So Should I upgrade to a better board, or just get better trucks/wheels or should I keep the same board for longer?

Money isnt an issue per say but I don't long board that often so Id like to keep it under 210$

u/ExpensivePillow · 2 pointsr/longboarding

Hmmm alright thanks for the input! Sorry for another quick question, where would you put the Riviera Cherry Blossom 41.5" board in terms of quality/similarity/etc. to the Drop carve/hammer? I have a preference to the graphic of the Cherry Blossom over the Drops' graphics. Linked here: https://www.amazon.com/Riviera-Blossom-Complete-Longboard-Skateboard/dp/B009PQAPQ4 . The graphic really doesn't matter too much to me, just in general Iw as wondering if there was much difference.

Hi, i have been penny boarding/skate boarding for a year or so, but I want to try long boarding. Is this a good board for cruising small hills and college campuses. Thanks

u/jjcuber · 1 pointr/longboarding

Thinking about picking up freestyle/dance longboarding as a hobbie but money is tight since I'm a teenager with no job yet. But I was wondering if there was a decent board in like the $70 range that I could try out and see if I like it and then I'd buy a quality board. What I found so far was this playshion board for $60 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07443VW75/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_V78XCb4K80XFW) if I could get thoughts on this board or recommendations that would be nice thanks.

u/mariohawk · 1 pointr/longboarding
u/MouseCylinder · 1 pointr/longboarding

I only really use it to get around my college's campus. I had this one, but probably need something that will last longer

u/Fauxvoice · 1 pointr/ElectricSkateboarding

I would suggest this board (not an affiliate link):

https://www.amazon.com/Alouette-PHOENIX-Electric-Skateboard-Lithium/dp/B01MZC8DCR

It won't go faster then 15 mph, and it won't go farther then 5-7 miles, but for $300 it isn't too bad. You can also get a square trade warranty on it to cover future repair costs after the 1 year warranty is up.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/longboarding

Hey guys,
So I recently decided to buy a longboard for under $170 and a lot of the ones around that price range had issues to where people started to replace parts, so after an hour of searching on Amazon I found a board that seemed to satisfy everything I needed for a good price. I need a longboard with good maneuverability, that can handle going down and up hills, and that can go over brick paths easily.

The link to the board is right here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01L6V7J28/ref=gp_aw_ybh_a_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=76K16JFJY7VAEZYTTZQV&th=1

Thanks in advance

Hi guys.

I love skateboarding and have had one since I was 3...I have had a longboard for over 5 years and I believe it's done its time.

I am looking for new longboards...Ideally I want a good bamboo longboard. I am deciding between a sector 9 boards (https://www.sector9.com/bonsai-complete.aspx) and this one cause its fairly cheaper (https://www.amazon.ca/Ten-Toes-Boards-Longboard-Skateboard/dp/B01L6V7J28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498448564&sr=8-1&keywords=bamboo%2Blongboard&th=1) Which one is a better bang for the buck?

Would you recommend if I should buy a complete board or build it?

u/shadowscott · 1 pointr/ElectricSkateboarding

Looking for my first electric skateboard/longboard. Currently have a conventional longboard. Will mostly be riding on flat, but occasional hills will be encountered (nothing crazy). Looking for anyone who has experience with these two. Price points seem to be fair for what they are. I'm 140 lbs, most riding will be on sidewalk and street. Thoughts on these two? Thanks.

They came with the atom board.

Atom Longboards Atom All-Terrain Longboard - 39" , Woody https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01IP5VQBI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7bJ1Cb0Y8714Y

It's such a fantastic ride on sidewalks, road, hard packed dirt paths. It just goes over everything. Things what would stop Street wheels in their tracks, this just plows through.

u/brocebeats · 1 pointr/ElectricSkateboarding

It works on hills for me... Both my videos are on a hill.

Amazon it's a 4.3

Hey I am 6'4" and I have huge shoes about size 14, I want a board like this or this . I like the first one more and want to know what different types of boards are used for (ie: cruising, shredding, fast, minimal effort needed). Personally I will go cruising around a lot so a minimal effort board that takes a few pushes to get going fast and for a long time without having to push again, and I want a board easy to balance on while going down medium/small hills with it. I will definitely be hitting some moderate hills though so I'm guessing most of you would recommend upgrading to a more expensive board by then but for now I am not very serious about gearing up. Also what is the difference between a pre built board and one you have to get parts for and assemble? Thank you to anybody who can help me out!

Hello,

My 8 year old is quite good with roller skates, but wanted to start longboarding. I was just about to place an order on amazon... but before doing that a quick google search (pointed to reddit) revealed that I should stay away from that store.

Is there a beginners longboard that you would recommend under $100?...

Are these considered garbage for amateurs?

u/FrobisherGo · 1 pointr/longboarding

It's this one.

It has a little bit of bend and flex in the middle, but not heaps. It's got a nice concavity too, it's really easy to carve on.

u/remf3 · 1 pointr/longboarding

They are between the trucks. It's a drop through, so I figured that standing over the trucks would be a bit awkward. This is the board I bought. Not the precise setup as I bought it from a local shop.

u/Thebuddyboss · 1 pointr/longboarding

About to get this longboard: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DWHW5DM/?coliid=I28F5O7FH58U49&colid=1BZKQ1NC4S1FD&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I'm pretty new, should I get anything else for it? I don't really know how good these specifications are.

u/tommy2832 · 1 pointr/longboarding

Its a pretty bad board tbh http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FWWG8WK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its a ehh board, if you into longboarding don't get this board but if youre looking for a board for your gf to ride or just a board to learn on its great (witch is what I did)

u/Dragonite_Master · 1 pointr/longboarding

I was looking at a Volador 42in longboard for some simple riding around and getting from place to place. This was my top pick, since I'm not looking for anything too serious. Despite this, I of course do want a quality and durable product, and I'm not sure if just $60 will give me that. Should I look into replacing the trucks, wheels, bearings, or just look into a different complete entirely? Thanks for the help.

u/Ragnorak3 · 1 pointr/longboarding

Check this link
Edit. Price $99 + 9 bucks of shipping

u/blooperama · 1 pointr/onewheel

So wait, why don't you buy through amazon? Do you live outside the US?

u/joonrhee · 1 pointr/boostedboards

I have been practicing on Atom longboard. It has the all terrain wheels so really helped me learn the basics easily.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IP5VQBI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then, I bought this cheap Rimable longboard (with smaller wheels) as well, for more practice. This cheap board's truck was so loose wheels were getting stuck when turning so I had to tighten the trucks.

https://www.amazon.com/Rimable-Drop-through-Longboard-Africa-Pattern/dp/B01H0JQXB8/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1493305810&sr=1-1&keywords=rimable+longboard

My board is arriving tomorrow so hopefully my practice will pay off. Good luck!

u/realadult · 0 pointsr/longboarding

Is this a good first board?

I've been doing a little bit of research so far and came across this longboard which seems promising and aesthetically pleasing. http://www.amazon.com/White-Warrior-Bamboo-Longboard-Skateboard/dp/B0141NGZ64?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=A2NUV9C3MO3CNC
I am a beginner and am mainly just looking for something to get across campus easily, I'm not really looking to do tricks or go really fast. For more information I'm a 5'4" female about 110 lbs, do you think I would be able to maneuver this alright?

u/demonsforryu · -1 pointsr/NewSkaters

I've seen longboards in the Vans store. They are actually gaining in popularity quite fast. You shouldn't have a problem finding one.

Otherwise, Amazon has a ton. I just bought this one for my son. He enjoys it.
