You can get almost everything on Amazon. Browse through the "related products" on these pages, and you'll have all the bento supplies you need.

  • Soy sauce bottles
  • Panda bento box

You prevent everything from smashing together by packing the box tightly and putting lids on everything (see the six photos here). It's not foolproof, but it usually works well. You might want to use some baran to separate moist foods from dry foods.

Zojirushi Bento Box

Trust me. This will change your eating experience at work. They make great thermos type coffee mugs as well. The quality is great.

u/thefootballhound · 70 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

It's a vacuum container. The bottom compartment is for hot soup which keeps the rest of food warm until lunch time.

Keeping wet things separate from dry things helps. I have a variety of small Sistema containers; I would probably simply put each item into a different container. They also make a nice container with a compartment at one end for, say, hummus, and a long section for, say, carrots or sliced peppers to dip into the hummus.

This one, the Snack Attack Duo, is nice - there's space for a couple of different kinds of things.

I have this one ("Salad To Go") for salads - I am amazed at how long the salads remain fresh in it.

This is a smaller one, with two sections.

I use the Dressing Containers for salad dressing; they also make several larger sizes that would work for small amounts of fruit or nuts.

The Triple Split has more room for larger amounts, and comes with a container which can be used for yogurt, hummus, cottage cheese, or fruit like watermelon.

The Sistema stuff is well-made. I put mine in the dishwasher with care, and it has held up very well. I've had no problem with leakage, and food seems to last longer in the Sistema than in other containers. (I have no stake in the company; I just love the products!)

Lots of cheap healthy ideas here /r/MealPrepSunday

Get an Insulated lunch box and some of those blue freezer things and you're good to go.

Also picked up one of these to keep the water bottle cool all day.

Something to keep in mind: If you have a long commute, I'd definitely recommend getting a backpack with two straps. As cute as some messenger/tote bags are, your shoulder can get quite sore from carrying it, especially if you have a lot of things in it, like a Macbook, lunch, etc. My commute to-and-from work every day is 2 miles that I walk, and I am very glad to have a backpack that allows for equal distribution of weight across my shoulders. Unfortunately, I don't have any good recommendations for a nice backpack, because I'm just using an old backpack from when I was in college. As for lunch bags, I just got this cheap one off of Amazon that is roomy enough to hold several food items and containers, and then I just stuff the lunch bag into my backpack. Best of luck to you in your search, though!

Honestly a lot of environmental impact can be reduced by "Joe Shmoes" like us. Taking steps to reduce how much we consume and reusing what we can adds up, especially when it comes to single use containers. Invest in a reusable cup, straw, and bags and you easily cut out a significant part of your contribution to plastic waste (not to mention discounts for using your own cup/bag). You can even get reusable produce bags.

I agree it takes political power to stop corporations from capitalizing off of the environment and dumping CO2 into the air, but that's where we can step in as well and vote for politicians that will fight for those ideals. This is especially effective at the local level as waste management is often dictated by state, county or even city.

As for the trashtag hashtag, it was positive to an extent, but all of that trash still ends up in a landfill that compounds our issues. To speak to OPs point, if we crowd funded research initiatives or support organizations that are genuinely working to create a more sustainable future like people are for the Notre Dame, leaps and bounds could be made.

Everything said, it's still a devastatingly sad day for France and the world.

TL;DR Make a difference, cut out single use containers, and start with reducing and reusing BEFORE recycling.

u/PDX666 · 21 pointsr/vegan

It's a small step but I invested in reusable shopping bags, and reusable produce bags. I feel like the produce bags keep my veg fresher longer, and it definitely has reduced my plastic use with how much produce I buy as a vegan. I use the produce bags for most of my bulk buying as well, then just transfer the bulk stuff into big jars when I get home.

Is there a way you could buy him kind of like a lunch cooler or a thermos to keep with him on the road? I work long days too and got sick of fast food, so I use This lunch cooler and really like it! and my all-time favorite thermos is this one, which can be used to keep drinks or food hot (or cold!) for a really long time! If you combine it with reusable ice packs he can have anything he likes on the road and not worry about it spoiling through the day!

I know it's not exactly what you were asking, but I thought I would share. Good luck!

u/Bmorehon · 9 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

My spouse LOVES lunchables. I have a huge problem with that, because have you looked at those ingredients lists? Eww! So, I set out to find an alternative that is quick and easy in the mornings. I started buying cheap turkey or ham from the deli, a box of club crackers, a block of cheddar cheese (or whatever we have on hand, anything but american 'cheese product') and some chips or some type of snack. In his lunch each day there is:

  • Club crackers (enough for 5 'sandwiches')
  • 5 rolls of lunch meat
  • 5 or 6 thick pieces of cheese sliced off the block (fits perfectly on cracker)
  • Chips or cheese-it's
  • Fruit roll-up or some strawberries, pineapple, etc..
I pack all that into this container each day. It fits quite nicely, and the dry stuff I pack the night before. Then in the morning all I have to do is roll up some lunch meat and slice some cheese and he is good to go. Way tastier, healthier, and cheaper than a lunchable and when he gets tired of something I can switch it up.

With careful research and maybe a bit of prayer to whatever flying meal prep monster in the sky, I learned that I get what I pay for.

It depends on where you live, what your diet is based on and the cost of living. For 6 people, i'm spending about 600 a month on food. Look at the subreddits r/mealprepsunday and the keto subreddits for a walkthrough and meals. For meal prep, get some containers like these or these. I use them and can vouch for them. Also get a scale. Preferably electronic that has a range from 1-5000 grams. That way you can weigh your ingredients and know the weight of your servings. Things like protein and fat are filling, which is useful if you aren't using carbs for filler. Now you can do all that and still be losing money. You need to know where it's going and what you're buying, so look at your last 3 months or so of bank statements and any receipts. Where are you spending your money at, and can it be exchanged with something without losing quality of life? Sit down and look up meals with your family and build a list for the month. Double or Triple the normal amount of food you'd make, refrigerate what you'll go through in a week and freeze the rest. Pulling out what you need a day or two before you need it

u/tacosontuesday · 8 pointsr/veganfitness

I bring everything to get me from 7-4 in a general office environment.

Breakfast - overnight oats: 3/4 cup old fashioned oats, coconut milk, PB2, frozen cherries and strawberries (they thaw overnight), and a banana. This is super portable if you find the right kind of jar/tupperware. I add the banana fresh in the morning. If I didn't leave the house at 6am, I would totally make a smoothie of spinach, a banana, and bunch of other fruit with coconut/almond milk, but the wife doesn't appreciate the roar of the magic bullet waking her up.

Lunch - the past two weeks has been rice and beans with frozen peas. I freeze half the week and microwave them at work. If you have access to a microwave that could work. EDIT - I use [these] (http://www.amazon.com/EasyLunchboxes-3-Compartment-Bento-Containers-Brights/dp/B00AD67KN6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449755268&sr=8-1&keywords=easy+lunchboxes+3-compartment) for my lunches. They have held up surprisingly well over the last 4 months for 5 days a week of microwaving 2-3 minutes at a stretch.

Snacks/stuff I may eat with lunch - a rice cake with peanut butter (usually have the PB in another small container), unsweetened applesauce with cinnamon, clementines

Almonds and other fruit are portable and last all day.

EDIT 2 - I have been noodling this around in my head this morning some more. It boils down to a lot of trial and error. I always start my first day at a new job with something portable and nonperishable. Things like fruit, nuts, and a PB sandwich. I can keep them with me and not worry about refrigeration or anything unknown with where I am working. I mean most places have a kitchen for their staff, but you don't want to be caught assuming and you have a wilted dead salad by the time you get to it.

Once you get the lay of the land, then you can begin to plan. But it comes down to what you have available and what you like to eat. I have gone from those Chinese take out plastic containers, to glass containers (awesome for soups and tomato based things, but the lids are the failing point), to my little three compartment deal and probably a few more steps in between. I tried to carry my lunch in my work bag, but that sucked. So I used plastic/reusable shopping bags. That sucked too. I eventually bought a cheap [lunch bag] (http://www.amazon.com/EasyLunchboxes-Insulated-Lunch-Cooler-Black/dp/B004UISANC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449768469&sr=8-1&keywords=easy+lunchboxes+insulated+lunch+box+cooler+bag) that I cram everything in. For the cost, it works great, but don't expect it to keep anything colder then the commute to work. Same goes with my water bottle/coffee mug. Used to have separate ones, now it is just one. Hell for a while I was using one of those 64oz ones that you take to kid's soccer games.

I like to prep on Sundays, lay everything out, and coast through the week. Other people rely on leftovers or making things the night before. Mine is actually a combo, I prep the oatmeal and odds and ends so I can just grab and go in the morning.

tl;dr There are no right answers. You do you and don't be afraid to mix things up as you figure things out.

u/snap_hat · 8 pointsr/MealPrepSunday

Here. Highly recommend them, they freeze well and are great if you just want to microwave one thing, or heat for different amounts of time.

u/falcompro · 8 pointsr/1200isplenty

I got these : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078WZ3ZHM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are fairly compact, I can stack two rows back and front in my fridge. Wish they were a little wider instead of taller (So that my naan can fit better). Apart from that they hold the perfect amount. I guess if I were not dieting and going for bigger meals they might not fit my portion sizes.

Can't comment on longevity. I got them last week since my plastic containers I was using before these were hard to clean (especially since I like curries).

u/kms410 · 7 pointsr/mealprep

I use this and it is so amazing. I literally use it every day I have to work. It has three compartments. One is for soup (or a wet/saucy food), the largest is for whatever else you want to keep hot, and then there is one for warm/room temperature items. It’s a great lunch container system!

u/levelsubzero · 7 pointsr/keto

I'm so sorry that stupid stall happened to you :( You were trying so hard for so long without any positive results, it would drive anyone nuts. The egg allergy is another weird bummer. And it only happens on keto? WTF bodies, WTF? Sometimes it feels like the nature is evil and conspiring to make our lives miserable.

However, remember that no matter what, it is never impossible to lose weight. Even if you were in a coma your body would still burn plenty of calories and if your feeding tube provided less, you'd lose weight.

Now here's my take on the issues:

Calculating food nutrition: Not sure what you mean by "tracking food", but estimates and portion control don't work on keto if you have a tendency to overeat. Your body is screwed up and doesn't give you appropriate signals on how much you need, that's why you gained weight in the first place. You can't trust it. You have to literally weigh everything you eat, to a gram precision. Including milk/cream in coffee and sugar free candies.

Eating at work and long commute: Assuming you leave early in the morning and the lunch break is at noon, that's maximum 6-8 hours for food to sit in your bag unrefrigerated. It's probably fine for most foods, they won't get dangerously spoiled. Stomach acid is good at dealing with moderate amounts of bacteria, anything that doesn't smell/taste off shouldn't cause any harm. For a peace of mind you can also get a cooler lunch box with an ice flask insert, something like this. Sandwiches with low carb bread, crackers with cheese, salads, keto cookies, cakes, lettuce leaves with stuff thrown on top are all edible cold. On college days I leave home at 9am and come back after 9pm, with lunch break at 4pm. I take flax bread sandwiches with cheese, cooked meats and pate, keep them unrefrigerated and haven't poisoned myself yet.

Artificial sweeteners: I wouldn't worry about it too much, just check the ingredients of granulated/powdered ones. Unless it's erythritol, it probably contains dextrose/maltodextrin which is light, fluffy sugar. The whole fear of cancer, "chemicals" and weight gain is BS. They can raise insulin, cause cravings and make food more likely to settle as fat, but they won't make you gain fat out of thin air on a calorie deficit.

Metabolic slowdown, calories and stalls: It is true that metabolism slows down on a calorie deficit. However, it is not a binary thing where it is normal to a certain point and then switches to slow mode. It is more or less proportional. By having a bigger deficit you will slow it down more, but not to the point of maintenance on 1200 kcal. The reason why going too low is bad is low energy, hunger, too much stress on the body causing it to freak out and sustainability. If none of these are an issue to you and you feel great, a bigger deficit is ok and you will indeed lose more on a bigger deficit, despite slower metabolism. But it has to be comfortable and mostly a positive experience. If the negatives outweigh the positive feelings, you will become irritated, sick of it, hate everything and eventually break. It's not a matter of willpower, brain runs on chemicals, you are your brain, and you can only win by cooperating with it and playing by its rules. Water retention can cause apparent stalls for a couple of months, but in your case of 6 months it is more likely a combination of factors, including having more calories than you though. Here's a good post on shorter stalls, which are normal and to be expected.

Please don't ever give up. I'm on 1200 kcal myself (I weigh every crumble that goes in my mouth) and been stalling for 6 weeks, but today it started creeping down a bit. It is very frustrating and I have rage quit myself more times than I'd like to admit.

  1. Yes because they are more water efficient than washing by hand when you run a full load. You can DIY soap, here's a great recipe: http://eco-boost.co/diy-zero-waste-dishwasher-powder-that-actually-works/

  2. I have reusable produce bags that I love. I have two sets of them and I bring them for produce on every grocery run now. These are the ones I have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XSHEJ90/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  3. I use Tiger Balm (comes in a glass bottle with a metal cap and can be reused for other things after it runs out) on my more mild headaches by just rubbing it into my temples. As far as I know/have seen, pain killers don't come in non-plastic packaging so I just resolve to buy in bulk. I just recently bought a bottle of 500 ibuprofen tablets that expire sometime in 2020. Then I just keep some in a repurposed glass jar in my desk at work, some in a repurposed tube in my purse, and the rest at home. Instead of buying more bottles of smaller amounts, just buy in bulk for medicine so you only have one bottle as opposed to a half dozen or whatever. I do the same for allergy pills.
u/SqueakyHusky · 7 pointsr/VEDC

You have a few options depending on the size of the items.

  1. This will be the most insulative but isn't very big so only travel sized version of sunscreen and such would fit.
  2. This or something similar is your next bet. For these types of coolers fill the extra space with water bottles, they can be cooled, frozen or room temperature, but the extra mass of water will help keep the inside of the cooler cool.
  3. A portable fridge, like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Chefman-Portable-Personal-Capacity-Freon-Free/dp/B076X7HF7F/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=1XYI8QOJ9TFA2&keywords=portable+refrigerator&qid=1554274730&s=gateway&sprefix=portable+ref&sr=8-5, same tip with water applies here.

A few additional Notes: use a sun reflector for when your car is parked. Put the cooler box or bag in a shaded area, oftentimes it will be cooler under a seat or in the trunk. Lastly all the items I linked are just examples, I don't endorce any(except the hydroflask).

u/idontknowanymooooore · 6 pointsr/vegan

They might have them hanging up around your produce section, you should ask! The brand my store carries is Earthwise and it was about $3 for 3 bags. As a warning, lettuce seems to stay crispier in a plastic bag instead of mesh

https://www.amazon.com/EarthWise-EW105-Reusable-Produce-Sacks/dp/B005E2QRPG/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1467085741&sr=1-1&keywords=earthwise+mesh+bag

I will put them all in 1 bag and throw it in to my reusable tote so that I always have them

u/KestrelLowing · 6 pointsr/LifeProTips

Here are some of my staples:

  • Get a thermos. This one in particular is awesome - I've never had it leak, and it keeps food warm for ~5 hours (more if it's mostly liquid). I'll take half a can of soup (usually something like chunky campbells) and then in a tupperware container I'll also take some crackers, or if I've got it a roll of bread.
  • When I'm feeling lazy, I just take a small jar of peanut butter and tupperware of ritz crackers
  • Summer sausage, cheese, and crackers. When you get summer sausage, slice it up, slice up some cheese, put them in separate baggies or tupperware, throw a blue ice into your lunchbag (lunchbags are definitely needed for just about everything)
  • Salad. I have one of these containers that helps me get the correct portions for salad, and also has a handy little dressing container as well as a blue ice. It's nice and compact. All I do it get one of those premade lettuce mixes, usually throw in some spinach as well, and then in the top portion, I put some croutons (or something crunchy) and either cut up fruit (apples, strawberries) or cooked chicken (usually from a rotisserie chicken).
  • Apples are fantastic, as are bananas
  • I'd suggest getting some twist top tupperware if you want to bring more liquidy things (cut up watermelon springs to mind). I've found that the twist top tends to do better than the standard snap on.

You know what's a scary animal? Pandas. Sure, they're cute on the outside, and they look great as a bento box or a hand cream, but deep down inside, they're just a dirty look away from bustin' yo ass up. Our items are destined for each other because pandas stick together like a street gang. I had a run-in with the Black-Eyed Bitches, and let me tell you, it was not pretty.

If you're already bringing your own bag, add a set of produce bags like these to keep in your bring-along bag, and use those for any produce/bulk item as needed. It's easy to just leave a handful in the bottom of your canvas tote. They wash well if they get dirty, and should help you eliminate the smaller plastic produce bags.

Bulk deli-style containers are orobably the second-biggest 'waste reducer' I've found; in the past I'd put leftover raw foods into a Ziploc or sandwich bag to store in the fridge, but never had much luck cleaning and re-using the bags. These are much handier, easier to clean, and are immensely helpful just from an organizational standpoint. Also can be used for bulk items if you plan ahead and bring them along.

u/stuckandrunningfrom · 4 pointsr/Ultralight

I discovered that the reusable mesh bags in the produce dept of grocery stores weigh .3 ounces (less if you resewed them a little smaller) and are just as effective at helping me organize my bag as the heavier ones with plastic toggles that I used to buy. And they are so cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Earthwise-Reusable-Mesh-Produce-Bags/dp/B005E2QRPG

And now that i have my smaller quilt, I don't need to use the compression sack with all the buckles that I used for my bigger sleeping bag.

So I think a lot of it is re-thinking what you are using, and maybe looking in other places than just the outdoor equipment store for gear.

u/the_word_slacks · 4 pointsr/Portland

I know it sounds weird to buy something in order to be zero-waste, but we recently started using these bags for grocery shopping to avoid having to use the plastic bags at the store.

I agree with most of what you said. I spent a long time single and many of my guy friends were always trying to tell me girls were into me for doing things like saying hi or other acts of basic human decency.

My disagreement is that’s not organs, it’s a lunchbox.

Here's a mishmash of items that I really love having in my apartment:

  • Command Strips for hanging pictures/mirrors/various objects without putting holes in walls.
  • A diffuser of some sort. I have this one from Saje, but there are lots of different kinds of varying prices on Amazon. You can get different blends of essential oils that smell really nice and help with stress management, sleep, etc.
  • My slow cooker is my best friend, for real.
  • Colouring books are a big thing now. I really like having a few lying around for when I'm bored or need to relax!
  • Containers to pack up all the delicious food she'll be making in her slow cooker! ;)
  • French press and kettle. Also this ADORABLE SLOTH TEA INFUSER.

I literally spent 20 hours finding the right containers, lunchbox, etc. for meal prepping. I decided these ones were the best: Komax Biokips Food Storage Lunch Boxes Set of 3, Divided Plastic Container with 3 Removable Compartments, Leak Proof, - Airtight Locking Lids
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWBJRUO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apap_OLtpViv5aW1LB

They are stackable and appear sturdy ( I've only had 7 weeks). What I love the most is that the compartments are removable, so if you have fruit or something that you don't want to microwave, but you don't want to have to eat that item first, no problem! They are definitely leak proof; I lived out of an ice chest in a hotel for a week and the meals at the bottom were in water for a day or 2 and still perfectly good. The individual compartments aren't leak proof, but the containers fit perfectly in my lunch box so I don't have to worry about that.

As far as food, keep it simple: 1 or 2 different meals so you don't feel overwhelmed or consume a whole day cooking and cleaning. My first week I made "homemade Chipotle bowls": Bush's chilli beans over rice with some Mexican cheese on top; corn, diced tomato, lettuce, and black olives in a separate compartment to pour over rice mix after it has been heated up; and a side of sour cream too. You can add a protein to it and salsa, etc. to customize. This is my go to meal if I need a couple extra meals if I'm trying something new and didn't make enough. I could (and do) eat that 12x a week no problem.

u/TheRealKaila · 3 pointsr/ZeroWaste

I use these. The weight of them is on the tag, some places will subtract that weight from the weight of the produce. Or they will take the produce out to weigh.

I typically just don't use a bag for things I'm buying one of (cucumber, tomato, onion, etc). But I will use it for multiples to keep them together (apples, oranges, lemons) and herbs or smaller things as well (cilantro, garlic, tomatillos, etc)

I love that they come in different sizes, and the have the weight on them. I personally don't bother subtracting the weight. And I just store them with my reusable bags.

I've had a couple cashiers give me funny looks or ask what they are, but I just explain to them that they are reusable produce bags.

When I get home I will typically store the produce in other ways not in the bag. But I have kept the produce in the bag with no ill effect.

u/existentialfeline · 3 pointsr/breakingmom

Here's a link to some of the bento boxes., hopefully that works. You can prep all the sides in advance then just make the entree portion the night before or morning of and save a ton of time.

If you go the mostly whole food route of veggies and fruit and sandwich, I'm personally not adverse to the baby soda cans or juice boxes since there's not a lot of other empty sugar. A thermos of water and ice would be nice in the summer. I loved the little barrels of fruit drink as a kid, I can't for the life of me remember what they're called. Water will be your cheapest option of course but the other stuff is nice as a treat.

u/MrBear50 · 3 pointsr/Actuallylesbian

One of the best things I've done is meal prep on the weekends. Pre-portion stuff in microwavable containers and freeze them.

A common meal prep I do is throw a bunch of seasoned chicken thighs in the oven, start something in the crock pot like chili or taco meat with black beans for work lunches, and then go goof off or do chores. Later I'll microwave a bunch of frozen veggies and some frozen sweet potato mash to add as side dishes with the chicken. Portion it all out in the containers listed above and bam! Dinner.

You have it exactly correct here.

The things I would point out about this (based on having a similar lunch jar from Zojirushi) are:

  • While the bowls are claimed to be microwavable, they can be easily damaged in the microwave. They are just normal plastic.
  • The construction in general isn't really all that great, at least the plastic parts. The spork is pretty low quality and the case for it is hardly worth keeping.
  • Only the soup container is intended to be spill-proof, so you have to be careful with anything "wet" in the other containers.
  • The containers are a bit on the small side, especially the soup container.

But overall it works as advertised. I don't know if I'd expect it to be BIFL. I think it's probably most useful if you will use it with hot foods. For cold foods that you will warm up in a microwave, I think an insulated lunch box/bag with some of these and some decent-quality microwavable containers might be better.

One day, there was a man called /u/TonightsWhiteKnight. As a white knight, he was taking a long trek across the earth to protect the innocent civilians from the direwolves, instructed to murder all those who did not obey their masters. After an epic battle of swords, blood, sweat and tears, the direwolf gave a cry of defeat, and the white knight was able to rescue the young woman, and she introduced herself as /u/asdfghjklanta. u/Bael_Take_The_Wheel · 2 pointsr/fatlogic

Hummus and veggies or hummus and pretzels (17 pretzels are 90 calories and the perfect amount for two tablespoons of hummus which is 70 calories).

I also do frozen veggies or veggie blends, like peas and carrots, broccoli, California blend, etc. Dish them out frozen in the morning and 30-45 seconds in the microwave at lunch is normally enough to thaw and heat them.

For lunch packing suggestions, I just use a lunch bag similar to this. I got mine free from work for some "Healthy Habits" initiative. It's nice because I can carabiner it to my work bag easily enough.

For tupperware, I have an assortment of Lock-and-locks in various sizes. They are great, I can fill one with a vinaigrette and it won't leak.

I don't do one tupperware with multiple compartments, I do multiple smaller containers so I can heat some things and leave others cold.

Multiple smaller containers also helps with portion size because sometimes I want to just fill the container all the way up instead of measuring.

u/CaptainCoral · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

this might be a good idea for the kiddos. They're small and easy to carry, and they can put their carry-on items in them with easy access. For any sort of road-travel, it's good to toss in some trail mix and a juicebox -- for the plane, it'll carry a book, device (mp3, tablet, DS, etc), plus travel kleenex packets, headphones, etc.....
Backpacks for kids can sometimes be a little too bulky, and these make the trip much easier, as well as being kid-size. :)
Good luck!

Not vegetarian for environmental reasons but of course I do. I bring my own little cloth bags for the produce and I buy a good amount of bulk items as well. It's difficult at first because you are changing a habit, but now that it's habit I rarely ever think about it. People actually ask about the produce bags regularly. I use something like this. But of course I still buy a lot of products that come in non recyclable plastic and other wasteful stuff. My philosophy has always been to do the best I can but not make myself crazy over things like this.

Haha the soup is very stereotypical keto. Very high fat, very low carb, absolutely delicious. To make it fit into my day I make it with a few modifications (leaner meat, lower fat cheeses, smaller serving sizes) and pair it with lighter breakfasts and lunches.

I weigh everything except the baby romaine for the salads. My eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach (and my calorie budget) and weighing helps keep me on track.

There are many good suggestions here. My question is, "What does she currently eat?". I'd send her to school with items she currently eats everyday. I send my boys to preschool with dinner leftovers all the time. If they don't have a microwave, look into insulated containers. My kids love milk, so we found vacuum insulated funtainers for them, milk is nearly the same temp 10 hours later. $15 is a bunch of money for one, so I found some brand new ones on eBay for $7 each. They were Hannah Montana funtainers that became plain funtainers with some 120 grit sandpaper. If you introduce new foods I'd do that at home first before the surprise at preschool.

Did you get a Zojirushi Bento Jar set like this one?

I'm looking to get a set myself!

u/sentamalin · 1 pointr/flightattendants

I'm omnivorous, here, but I try to pack some healthier options whenever I can. Of course, I say that but what I do end up bringing still has a pretty high carbohydrate content (I can't get over my love of rice and noodles as a staple food).

In addition to beans and lentils (preferably with a combination of a grain to help balance out your amino acid profile), I recommend not being afraid of adding healthy fats to your food because it'll keep you sated for longer, and if you're careful about calorie watching, is more dense. In practice: I like avocados, and I use the keto trick of adding some coconut oil to airplane coffee to add fat to my breakfast.

Find ways to add fiber and proteins, secondly, to your meal considerations because both will help you feel full, like healthy fats will. Low-sodium jerky, trail mix, and protein/fiber bars are my usual no-refrigeration go-tos for those. Carbs are still necessary, but if possible get them from veggies, and you'll get nutrients to boot. Carrots, celery, broccoli, and grape tomatoes are my usual mainstays because they keep well in not-ideal coolers--especially paired with some dressing to add some fat content to your snacking.

If you don't mind using some of your layover/rest time preparing your meals for the next day and you don't want to be stuck with just the hotel microwave (if it's even provided) I recommend--like others--investing in a HotLogic Mini. I recommend going to their website to buy it because they often have sales. Your other fellow flight attendants occasionally get coupon codes for them, too, if you ask around; and sometimes they offer a BOGO Free deal. Depending on how you meal-prep (for curries, pilafs, ratatouille, etc I just cut up veggies and proteins into a Ziploc bag and spice the bag) it's as easy as putting it all in a Pyrex glass container (one of the HotLogic sets come with a glass container) and plugging the HotLogic in. Recipes that work in a crock pot work best in it, in my opinion. I've also used the Joseph Joseph M-Cuisine Cooking Set to cook during layovers, and I prefer it when I'm making pasta, noodles, or rice dishes.

To keep food warm, I've been using an insulated lunch pail like the Zojirushi Mr. Bento as a complement to my cooler. The inner containers can keep food hot/cold for around 8-12 hours while the top container typically remains at room temperature. It's a little thing, but having a hot meal in-between a long 12-hour day with no time to buy expensive airport food is a wonderful way to keep your morale up.

Also, a small lunch bag and these Ziploc containers are money.

I work 12 hour days, so I feel your problems.

Birdseye and Green Giant do steam in bag vegetables I've found to be pretty good. They are under $3 a per bag, so that is an easy way to get your veggies. At least two meals a day for me are nothing but 4 minute to cook veggies bags. Like $20 gives me a month worth of food.

I'm also a fan of doing spaghetti with meatballs, chicken alfredo or some other pasta based dish I can put into Tupperware and just microwave in 5 or 6 minutes or less. I figure I spend maybe $40 a month on dinners for work.

I do a better job at eating healthy at the office compared to my work from home days. When I WFH, I am able to graze all day and truly cave when the afternoon munchies strike. At work, I can only eat what I pack. I focus on protein since it is filling and keeps me from getting too hungry.

I stock up on Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice frozen meals when they are one sale. Not the healthiest choice, but decent calorie control and many of them have 20g+ of protein. Works great when you are in a pinch. And even though they are supposed to be frozen, they survive quite well in the fridge or insulated lunch bag from morning until lunch time.

I buy large packs of chicken breast, grill it, divide it into 4 oz quantities and freeze. Pull out a bag, mix with salad greens and a little bit of dressing, and I have a salad for lunch. I use a Rubbermaid Lunch Blox Salad Container.

I also have a lot of Greek yogurt, string cheese (6g of protein for 70 calories), and baby carrots.

To answer your question:

I have a milk crate zip-tied to my rear rack. It holds my lunch, among other things. I have a water bottle cage bolted to my frame. It holds my drink. Most bikes have two mounting points on the frame for such cages, giving you the option of carrying a second drink.

To give you real advice:

I used to ride my motorcycle to work. In my saddlebags, I carried my lunch in a cheap IKEA tupperware, but wrapped in two or three rubber bands to keep it tightly shut for the ride. If you want something more dedicated, I would look into something like this. It's not watertight, though, so no soup. Even a cursory browse through Amazon for lunch bags yields a wealth of cheap, compact options.

It came with my monbento box (set ordered from amazon here) but I'm tempted to get these so that I have extra.

u/invertedjenny · 1 pointr/Bento

I like my Monbento a lot. I bought the pocket cutlery from them and they fit well under the lid.

They come in an Original shape (maybe for you?) and Square (maybe for bf?). Microwaveable and dishwasher safe, just be careful with the interior lids. I always handwash the interior lids to be safe. Leakproof if you seal them up correctly.

I've had as much luck putting cut up lunch meat sandwiches in them as I have had with storing an onigiri lunch in them. Bento & co has some really cute sauce cups, separators, etc. if you need them, but Monbento sells things like that too that will match their boxes.

However, right now, directly from Monbento, you can get the square one with sauce cups and cutlery for only $27USD + shipping which is a good deal.

I’d recommend a bento box that you can toss in a backpack. I used to carry a lunch box before but found it too bulky and didn’t want to carry more stuff around. If you’re okay with paying a premium, I’d recommend this one I’m currently using. It’s expensive but worth every penny IMO. There’s also cheaper options on Amazon just make sure they’re leak proof.

Unfortunately, work has got me out of town for the best part of the next 3 weeks but I can lend some helpful advice. Get yourself a brew bag first off, there are several brew shops in town that have them, you can also use an old pillow case if you'd like. Then get a 5 gallon bucket from home depot. Line the bucket with your bag and scrape all your honey, wax and all off the frames into it. Then string up your bag and let the honey filter through it into the bucket. You can speed up the process by running a heater over it. You'll end up with a bag full of wax and a bucket full of raw honey. I like it with a little wax, if you don't you can further filter it as needed.

I've used this LD Carlson one for the last two dozen brews: http://www.amazon.com/Brew-In-Bag-Straining-26/dp/B00E5M8E6G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417795617&sr=8-1&keywords=brew+in+a+bag

I got it from my LHBS from $10 and it's served me very well.

I recently ordered this one as a Xmas present as I'm due an upgrade and they had a BOGO deal for black friday:

I still have a false bottom, but used this to supplement. It's totally big enough for my 10gal cooler and didn't tangle while stirring. I think I bought it here... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E5M8E6G/ref=cm_sw_su_dp

u/DNedry · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

Yeah I still use the false bottom and the bag on top. Bag I got from Amazon was like $9.

I do wish it was a little longer so it could go over the sides a bit more, but it works as is.

12+ Brews on one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E5M8E6G/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and still going strong! no need to trash them, just get two of these in case the first one breaks on brew day.

u/rrenaud · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

24x26 is enough for 15 gallon pots. I use this in my 10.5 gallon pot and it still had some room left.

We have been using these:
Sistema Klip It Multi-Use Food Storage Container Set, 14-Piece https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NSJ88V8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q0U6CbPHQMDAA

We only send one meal right now as our daughter is almost 8 months old. I usually do fruit in one compartment and either baked egg, waffle, or toast in the other. We also use the round Take and Toss containers to send Cheerios so she can practice her pincer grasp.

I've been using these for the last 2 years with my kids. They're quite good.

this one?

u/BigEazy · 1 pointr/MealPrepSunday

These on Amazon. Many companies sell the same product, but these seemed to be the best priced.

u/Spoons896 · 1 pointr/MealPrepSunday

I got them on Amazon. They are 10 for like 12bucks. I will post a link when I get to a computer.

u/RippingAallDay · 1 pointr/MealPrepSunday

How about these or these?
I've seen them floating around on amazon. I thought the price is fair, but they're more expensive than the MMG containers...and don't come with any food inside.

From Amazon:

They are not disposable, dishwasher and microwave safe...but they only last so many uses before becoming flimsy. Worth it to me though. I got mine from Amazon:

u/devil5av0cad0 · 1 pointr/mealprep

I just use a standard insulated lunch bag ( something close to this : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FQA0YDQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_a9nxDbV7QZN51) for my 30 min commute. It goes straight from my fridge into the fridge at work.

u/thegamenerd · 1 pointr/ps2

Might sound crazy, but the shoulder strap from a lunch box can usually be adjusted to be the right size for a belt quite easily. I'm been using one as a belt now for 2 years.

Specifically the shoulder strap from this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FQA0YDQ/

I have those BPA-free plastic meal prep containers with three compartments, so everything is separate when I reheat... I doubt you really need to do that though.

u/Ghostshellx · 1 pointr/classicwow

These where the greatest investment and a digital scale but you don't need as scale just go by the Palm and Hand size portion chart but I'm counting micros so I use a scale to narrow down.

Yeah man! Gotta eat something green daily, right? Spinach sounds good! Throw a little cheese, tomato on, mix it up a bit! I like to keep it basic, nothing too complex, or I'll get sick of it.

Meal Prep Containers 3 Compartment - Plastic Food Containers for Meal Prepping - Divided Lunch Containers Food Prep Containers - Reusable Food Storage Containers with lids Bento Lunch Box [15 Pack] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074J6XBNX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_l0DQAbR602XGV These guys are doing me right! I figure they'll last a good while if I'm not heating in them too much. They freeze well and i figure if i get ten uses out of each it's under a dime per meal cost. Not bad!

  1. Yeah meal prep probably isn't for you if you aren't going to be able to overcome the hatred of left overs. What about leftovers don't you like?

  2. The black plastic containers are dishwasher safe, microwave and freezer safe. These ones seem to hold up well and I've been really happy with them.

  3. I do nothing special to seal them to store them in the fridge, I just put the lid on.

  4. If you do pasta you could have a container of the pasta and put your sauce in a mason jar. Add the sauce and then microwave. Otherwise rice is great for meal prepping.

  5. I hate eating the same thing every day too so I cook at least two different kinds of meals for 4 days. The containers I linked can be frozen so if you made bulk you can freeze. It might take a few weeks to get a good stash going but then you'll have a ton of options. As for freezing things, I've heard to stay away from things that have a high water content (whole tomatoes don't freeze well but tomato sauce freezes fine).

  6. If you're prepping a lot of food it can take a few weeks to get the hang of things. I think the most important thing for my meal prep to go smoothly is mise en place: "everything in it's place". Before I cook I pre-measure seasonings, wash and cut veggies, marinade/cut the proteins and get my containers out and set on the kitchen island. This makes the process quicker because I'm not running around my kitchen while food is cooking looking for all my ingredients.

Oh.. and I like wearing shoes when I meal prep because standing and walking around the kitchen makes my feet tired haha
