Well This is the product. I wasted some minutes and found it. Doesn't say its a security mailbox anywhere on the page. Aaaand shows every moving part of the mailbox. This post is nowhere near funny and you just bought a item that doesn't fit your needs. IMHO

u/[deleted] · 132 pointsr/AskUK

If it is a council house, ask about getting a security grid. It will make your house stand out if no-one else has it, but they will stop petrol bombs, bricks, paint bombs etc from coming through your window. I have them on all the windows at the back of my house and they've worked before.

For the letter box you can get things like this that will stop anyone from trying to put anything through to ignite it.

Security doorbells are also useful, like this. They connect to your phone and allow you to see who is at your door without answering.

Good locks, working fire alarm and preferably having your bedroom in the least accessible place with a fire escape type window are useful tips.

I live here too, i don't know how to best deal with those people who may want to harm you, they're going to want to do it regardless. I'm not sure how much good it would do, but have you considered moving to a different council area?

u/WhyBePC · 106 pointsr/funny

OP bought a locking mailbox.

Nowhere in the description does it state that it's a security mailbox or even mention the word "security" in the description.

u/reeuuk · 31 pointsr/funny

Honestly you sound like a jerk, op. I looked up the item and no where on the description does it say it's a "security mailbox"
Also on the features it tells you just how wide the opening is. Yeah it's a bad design but it's you're responsibility to figure out what it is you are buying and if it fits your needs.
The product

u/superus3r · 19 pointsr/funny

Here's the Amazon link.

edit: Nowhere does it say "security mailbox".

u/The_Actual_Devil · 15 pointsr/funny

To be fair, op is just karma whoring, this mailbox isn't marketed in any way as "secure". It's just a regular mailbox that has a door in case you can't reach all the way to the bottom.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MXW9TCI/

The dimensions of the slot are plainly stated as well.

u/TaintTrauma · 14 pointsr/Atlanta

My neighbors started installing these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002Q91K2/

u/MirrorLake · 11 pointsr/videos

$20

Goal for kickstarter: $20.

Please guys, how else am I going to get coupons in the mail?!

u/workingnights · 6 pointsr/unitedkingdom

Then make it more difficult, fitting a door bolt and letterbox guard will stop most people while you are in the house.

An ip cam that emails you when there is movement in say, a front porch area covers when you are out.

Regarding your mailbox, is this the kind you have? https://smile.amazon.com/Gibraltar-Mailboxes-Galvanized-Wall-Mount-THHB0001/dp/B00FQ5B17A Can you replace it with a locking wall mount mailbox? That won't stop them from putting crap like sand in it but it might take them a while to realize they need to get a funnel or to cut a corner of a ziploc.

https://smile.amazon.com/Gibraltar-THVK0000-Lockable-Vertical-Townhouse/dp/B000HMAB00

This one comes in a bunch of colors, just search for "locking wall mount mailbox small" to find bunches, remove small to find more. https://smile.amazon.com/Architectural-Mailboxes-2594R-Locking-Mailbox/dp/B01MY48KFV

Obviously switch to a PO box to make sure you get your mail.
I would call USPS about mailbox tampering as that's as illegal as stealing the mail. They can be fined up to 250k and I think 3 years in jail for each offense. Take photos each time they do it and report it that day. Possibly leave it for the postal carrier to experience and make a note of.

u/cca2013 · 5 pointsr/USPS

Your postmaster will most likely insist that you purchase a key keeper to install by the door.

https://www.amazon.com/Salsbury-Industries-1080AU-Surface-Mounted/dp/B007EJ93FS/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=key+keeper&qid=1566242561&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Once you get it installed, then a USPS employee comes out and installs a USPS lock inside. You'll put the key or combo code inside the key keeper.

When buying a plunger, this is for sinks see how shallow the rubber suction cup is? Sink plunger. Or shower/bathtub plunger, if it's clogged. Not for toilets!

This is for toilets see how much different the cup part is? This is very important.

If tampon applicators are cardboard and say they are flushable, they aren't. Don't risk it. Just throw it away.

If you have a septic tank, make sure your toilet paper is septic safe.

There's a little shut off valve to your toilet Turn this off (turn it to to the right!) if it's overflowing and you don't have a plunger. This is so you can go get one from the store/another bathroom without flooding your bathroom floor with nasty things.

Close the lid to flush the toilet every single time. Store your toothbrushes behind the medicine cabinet mirror or in a drawer. It's nasty if you don't because anytime you flush the toilet with the lid up, you're getting everything inside the bowl everywhere, including your toothbrush, on yourself, and on every surface of the bathroom.

If you're a lady yourself, or you have lady visitors and dogs and want to make sure to keep them out of the trash/used sanitary supplies in the trash go and get a little metal mailbox and then attach it to the wall or somewhere near the toilet. Line it with paper lunch sacks, and keep it closed! Change out the paper lunch sack once a day if you know it's being used. maybe put a 'trash' sticker on it or something so people know what it's for.

Lastly, use something antibacterial (lysol spray or wipes or clorox wipes) on a regular basis on the toilet flusher thing if it's a lever, or the button if that's what your toilet has, and on the water faucet handles and the doorknob on a regular basis, especially after you've been sick!

We've had a bunch of issues with stolen mail in 78745. I ended up installing [a locking mailbox](Mail Boss 7506 Mail Manager Locking Security Mailbox, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008HVH502/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mwGyyb42849Z9)

Parcel boxes can be spendy ($200+) but they're well worth it if you order a lot of things.

Example

Otherwise, if I am ordering something expensive I will just have them deliver it to a UPS drop location and I'll pick it up. Better to take an extra 20 minutes out of my day than lose a $900 phone or something.

u/brock_lee · 3 pointsr/DIY

First, is it an option in your area? Where I live, our mailboxes have to be at the curb near our driveway. They would not deliver to the door. But, I know lots of places are not that way. Where I grew up, the mailboxes were typically next to the front door, or were a slot.

What is your door made of?

They also sell locking mailboxes that are postal service compliant. Mail can be put in, but you can't take it out without the key.

u/amiatthetop · 3 pointsr/ColoradoSprings

Yes. I bought a locking mailbox. A lot of ghetto folks walk on the sidewalk here. Makes it easier when I'm away for a few days too.

u/throwahooawayyfoe · 3 pointsr/DarkNetMarkets

>And put a lock on the letterbox? How does that work lol?

they make locking mailboxes. one of my neighbors has one. it's like a bank's night deposit box. you open one flap to put the mail in, which then drops down into a secure locked portion of the box so unauthorized parties can't get to your mail.

Tampering with mail is a federal felony. Report this to the police and the local postmaster.

This has some resources for you: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contactus/filecomplaint.aspx

The USPS takes this stuff seriously:
https://about.usps.com/securing-the-mail/mailtampering.htm

You may also want to invest in a security mailbox:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008HVH502/ref=psdc_3180361_t1_B000PIEXFA

You may want to put a credit freeze in place. It's what all those "credit monitoring" companies do without the price of your "free" Experian(who has been breached) credit report:
https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0497-credit-freeze-faqs

Someone is targeting your family. Get some security and get some outside help. Your safety and time is worth more than anything. You can't get either back with any amount of money.

Install it and call office to have an arrow lock installed. Usps should technically have a key to bypass digital entry. But maybe the carrier could leave the code inside.

u/vi-ruu · 2 pointsr/Flipping

I know some people use giant mailboxes (like this).

u/NortWind · 2 pointsr/funny

You can get heavy duty mailboxes commercially.

u/bytesnagger · 2 pointsr/homeautomation

Sweet Jesus, I need to get with the program. Mine is an analog system based on something similar to this product: https://www.amazon.com/Yall-Got-Mail-Alert-Flag/dp/B000BKKZJA

u/gustoprojex · 2 pointsr/Sneakers

I don't have this but saw it and thought it could be a solution for receiving packages. I don't think it's fireproof so be careful how much heat gets delivered in a day: https://www.amazon.com/Step2-Express-Package-Delivery-Box/dp/B079TB9YDF/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3CEZTB6BR521B&keywords=step2+express+package+delivery+box&qid=1564072221&s=gateway&sprefix=step2+exp%2Caps%2C320&sr=8-3

u/skeebies · 2 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

Actually bought a new one on Amazon ironically. That wasn't what was in the box though haha

Just didn't put it on yet

u/Im_mostly_lurking · 2 pointsr/videos

Similar fully-mechanical mailboxes/lockboxes like this already exist (mostly utilizing a deposit-only flip chute) and are avaliable at most hardware stores.

Setting aside the blatant self-promoting, this idea is just a pathetic attempt to cash in on the “make every a Smart X” trend by adding needless electronics and breakable components while “reinventing” existing products. Are you going to sell us a fancy proprietary juice-squeezing machine next? Go fuck yourself OP

TL;DR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002Q91K2

u/drakeypoo · 2 pointsr/pics

There're some flags you can buy to attach to an existing mailbox here and here.. the mailbox I had growing up had one built-in though. No idea where we got it.

u/MaxwellVador · 2 pointsr/USPS

I just talked to a customer about this yesterday as I was the aux on the route. He said he's informed the regular carrier about the issue but the carrier didn't make a note or card on their case about it for the other carriers. Misdeliveries like this are a result of bad casing.

As for what you can do, if your mailbox is curb mounted, get a drop box like this http://www.charnstrom.com/1667?gclid=Cj0KEQiAt9vEBRDQmPSow-q5gs8BEiQAaWSEDncUz6p7J135vrhuiwWrq69sMLtjMxG3ntXBK4R7sKoaAjho8P8HAQ

If it's on your house then check out something like this https://www.amazon.com/Gibraltar-MSK00000-Lockable-Security-Mailbox/dp/B000CSK2EY

Just don't get anything with a small heavy slot that has to be lifted and make sure it's a larger box or you'll just annoy your carrier and end up having to pick up more of your mail at the office

u/rdt790 · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

I know it's dumb but try searching silver mailbox instead.

This one is about as nickel as I've seen. Not sure if the style is right. Honestly I like the one you linked better though.

u/brew-ski · 2 pointsr/DeTrashed

These aren't going in postboxes normally. Newspapers go in a open front box, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Newspaper-Delivery-Receptacle-Mounting/dp/B01997BYW2

u/natophonic2 · 1 pointr/funny

Bro! You're legitimately right, bro, no 'security' mentioned anywhere. But being able to put your hand in through the slot makes the lock and key irrelevant AF. Bro.

u/quantummush · 1 pointr/USPS

The best thing to do is probably just forward to the temporary address and once construction is completed delete the forward and send the mail to your new house. Also remember forwards are really meant to catch mail till you can change all your address information with mailers.

If you forget to check the box it may overflow and cause a little headache.

Not saying you have to do it but your mail carrier would greatly appreciate an oversized mailbox.
Extra large box

Let’s us put in more items and mail. Dependent on how much mail you get daily the regular mailboxes fill up pretty fast.

u/Belazriel · 1 pointr/walmart

They sell various mailboxes for packages. They're basically smaller versions of the blue USPS drop boxes.

u/woodchuck64 · 1 pointr/funny

Not an absurd request? This appears to be the item on Amazon. The letter slot is 9.6" by 1.4". Anyone can fit their hand in that! Asking for a photo is ludicrous. A reasonable response from the rep should be that the product was never designed to keep hands out.

u/nscale · 1 pointr/funny

There are people who make devices for that.

The red flag on the side is specified by government regulations, and is only for mail that is to be picked up! :)

u/Ethanol_Based_Life · 1 pointr/funny

Sure. Almost anywhere that's not an apartment building. Pretty much any house has a curbside mailbox that anyone can open. Homes in denser suburbs might have something like this.

u/CLINT-THE-GREAT · 1 pointr/Flipping

this is what i did. Bought a giant one on Amazon, I went from mailbox full of padded mailers to mailbox full of packages and mailers. Was only like $40 too. [This One] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CSK3RA/)

u/dotcomaphobe · 1 pointr/winstonsalem

Due to a malicious in-law, i bought one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002Q91K2/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1466696343&sr=1-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65

It's been wonderful and i can still get small and some medium sized packages delivered in it.

Love this mailbox and after seeing something similar I produced a version in SketchUp to determine dimensions and materials for our own.

You can download the SketchUp file here - it was my first time using SketchUp so apologies for some of the joints not meeting perfectly! The design is with this mailbox in mind.

u/I_happen_to_disagree · 1 pointr/funny

Except its not a security mailbox, OP is just a dumbass that wasn't paying attention to what he was buying. http://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Mount-Steel-Retrieval-Newspaper/dp/B00MXW9TCI

u/ZabRabbit · 1 pointr/funny
u/Buboxic · 1 pointr/answers

They make yellow mailbox alert flags that pop up when they open. https://www.amazon.com/Mail-Time-Yellow-Mailbox-Driveways/dp/B0002MSR2E

u/Nubetastic · 1 pointr/mildlyinfuriating

So we need are bigger mail boxes. Hopefully amazon won't bend it when delivering it.
