I use a Pyrex measuring cup and can get a pretty controlled pour. Most people already have one of these around the house. Not trying to dissuade anyone from getting a goose-neck, but something like this is probably the next best option if you don't have any kind of kettle.

I would never go for a manhattan shaker. They are notorious for locking up, as soon as there's a bit of liquid in the cracks (unless you buy really expensive japanese ones). They are also harder to clean than the simple two cups of a boston shaker, and the extra strainer isn't really hard to use.

I haven't used a parisian shaker, but that seems like it could do fine, but might lock up on you.

My own kit is made of a lot of individual stuff. Some from amazon, some from local shop, and some from china. If you want, I can do a writeup of where i got it, but since it's from china, it will take a month before you will receive the goods. However, the guys behind AbarAbove.com recently launched their quality bar tools line. They have a complete set of tools, which all seem to be of great quality. They have only gotten 5-star reviews so far: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LVY7VMH. It's $63 for the complete set.

Or you can just buy their boston shaker for $20, and this excellent strainer from OxO ($7), along with this measuring cup ($5)

Then you have a pretty good starter set. A fine strainer can be bought in most dollar stores locally for next to nothing, or you can find one on amazon. They are pretty much all the same, but it isn't really required if you're just starting out. I also have a bar spoon, a mixing glass and a muddler, but to be honest, I rarely use them. If you need to muddle something, use a wooden spoon or something. If you decide you really need one, look for one which is at least 6 inches long, to avoid bashing your knuckles on the edges of the shaker, or google "morgenthaler homemade muddler".

Hope your GF will be happy with your gift!

OP -- Just to clarify, do you mean one of these? Because A, it's advertised as microwavable. B, almost everyone I know has this brand and microwaves it all the time, including myself, and I want to make sure the future mass cleansing of my kitchen from Pyrex is justified.

u/Stolichnayaaa · 4 pointsr/cocktails

I can't go back to a regular jigger, this has so much flexibility. Apparently they make a stainless steel one too.

Cup fractions, tablespoons, ounces, millimeters, and easy to squeeze just as much citrus juice as you need.

http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Angled-Measuring-Clear/dp/B00FYL4MPY

u/emtilt · 4 pointsr/alcohol

Buy yourself a shaker, and an accurate measuring cup/jigger. I like this one.

Some options:

  • Grab some fresh limes at the grocery store. Pick up a bottle of gin - doesn't need to be too expensive but don't go bottom shelf. New Amsterdam, Beefeater, etc, will work for now. Grab a bottle of Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur and a bottle of green Chartreuse. Put 0.75 oz each of fresh squeezed lime juice, gin, Chartreuse, and Luxardo into your shaker, add lots of big hefty ice cubes, shake until very cold. Strain the liquid into a cocktail glass or whatever you have on hand, and you have a Last Word.
  • Grab some rye-forward bourbon or rye whiskey - again, no need to go super expensive at first but don't go bottom shelf. Maybe start with Bulleit (either regular or the rye version). Get a good vermouth - Carpano Antica Formula is the classic, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino is cheaper and has a very similar flavor profile. Get a bottle of Angostura bitters. If you want, optionally get some good cherries, like the Luxardo brand ones - the neon pink ones from the typical grocery store are not adequate. Put about 2 oz whiskey, 1 oz vermouth, and 1 or 2 dashes of bitters into a mixing glass. The ratio of the whiskey and vermouth can be adjusted to your preference once you try a few. Add lots of big ice, and stir until very cold. Strain the liquid a glass, and optinally add your cherry. Enjoy your Manhattan.

There are many more options. The tempatation will be to buy a bunch of shitty liquors and liqueurs. They will not taste good. I really recommend trying a smaller number of nicer things. This goes for things like beer, too. Anything will get you drunk, but alcohol can also taste amazing - don't miss out on that aspect.

We splurged on the Allclad cups & spoons a few years back, as we had a Williams Sonoma gift card to use up. They are very solid and will certainly last a lifetime. We're happy with them, other than if you want to say do 1/2cup with the 1 cup. There is writing on the inside that I believe will wear down in the years to come. For now it's ok, but it's not etched into the stainless... just printed.

Oooh. I would suggest some fancy ingredients like some Nielsen Massey vanilla paste (I have the gigantic 1 quart size myself and it's pretty much my favorite thing ever) or some Valrhona cocoa powder or feves (fancy chocolate chips). Some high quality measuring cups like these ones from All Clad would probably make her over the moon (as others have said, you can never have enough measuring cups and spoons, and heavy-weighted ones like those are a delight to use). You can round out your gift with a few cookbooks you think she might like -- some suggestions are the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook (since you mentioned she makes lots of cupcakes), the Tartine Cookbook (I love this one), and Rose Levy Berenbaum's Cake Bible or Heavenly Cakes.

I had a similar set of restricted circumstances a while ago, and I settled on a Dark 'n' Stormy. Two ingredients: black rum and ginger beer. Doesn't require a garnish, although a lime wedge is nice. If you can keep the ginger beer cold, you don't necessarily need ice.

They're pretty easy to make. I got this measuring glass, drew a dark black line in marker at the 2 oz line. It's 2 oz of rum, and then 5 oz (one full glass) of ginger beer. Done!

Something much more modest, I got these adorable nesting doll measuring cups as a housewarming gift and I just love them! They are decorative and functional. It’s really handy having a 2/3 and 3/4 measuring cup handy too.

Powder them in a coffee grinder to talc. Store in airtight glass. I use tiny measuring spoons. If you have a sensitive scale, see how much each weighs. Start with the smallest size. These are what I mean:

So the Emsa Perfect Beaker doesn't count? Because I love mine.

The [Oxo angled measuing cups] (http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-3-Piece-Angled-Measuring/dp/B0000CCY1Y/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1404230464&sr=1-3&keywords=measuring+cup) aren't bad either, but I'm much on the side of the beaker.

For other things, especially really viscous stuff like peanut butter or honey though, you can't beat the [adjustable measuring cups] (http://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Cup-Two-Adjustable-Measuring/dp/B000I21N7O/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1404230554&sr=1-3&keywords=measuring+cup+plunger). Except for the fact that none of them seem to have a good solution for not having the measurements wipe off other than be really freaking careful what you use it with.

u/Aerodamus · 2 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

I recommend something like these OXO Measuring Cups/Jugs, as they have both Cups and Milliliters on them and should be easily accessible to you in the US. I live in Europe and use the metric system, but these come in real handy when I'm doing American recipes that call for Imperial Cups.

As for spoons they're exactly the same as in the US, since they're both based on Milliliters. A tablespoon in Norway is the same as a tablespoon in the US.

EDIT: Just realized you said you didn't want measuring cups with both types of measurements on them, sorry! They're still really handy measuring cups tho :)

u/mr_factoid · 2 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

This is just a really old-school angled measuring cup, you read them from the side while pouring, they've been around forever, the later designs you can read from top.

u/suzerz · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hope this https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-2-Cup-Angled-Measuring/dp/B00005RKOE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1497264546&sr=8-2&keywords=angled+measuring+cup works, but if not it's called Angled Measuring Cup. I saw a buzzfeed article about interesting and useful kitchen gadgets and loved the idea!

Sorry I'm on mobile and can't remember how to do links lol

u/WubbaLubbaDubStep · 2 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

My honest opinion: If you can read, you can cook. Literally. Basic cooking is simply reading instructions and following them. Once your comfortable with how things taste together, timing, and what spices taste like, then you can move on to more advanced dishes.

I think a fun part of learning to cook is gearing up. Since most people here will give you a grocery list, I'll give you a list of helpful items that I use daily.

  • 1 large, sharp kitchen knife and basic sharpener

The knife if a bit on the pricey side, but trust me when I tell you it's worth it. You only need 1 and as long as you hand wash and dry regularly, it can last forever. Sharp knives won't cut you as often as a dull knife that sometimes slips.

  • crock pot. This is good because it doesn't require any sort of culinary skills. Mostly just mix and wait.

  • Liquid Measuring cup

  • Dry measuring cups

  • Flat spatula

  • Other spatula (for stirring and wiping out sauces/batter/etc.)

  • Tongs

  • Very basic non-stick pots and pans I have a cheap set I bought from Costco that has lasted me 8 years and counting. Be sure to ALWAYS use wood or plastic utensils with non-stick or you risk scratching the non-stick surface and fucking it all up.

  • Wooden Utensils These are nice because you can leave them in a pot of sauce and not worry about them expelling chemicals or melting.

  • Also a holder for your kitchen items

I assume you have basic dishware and silverware, so I've only included common cooking items.

Hope this helps! I'll update if I can think of anything else you'll need.
u/ahorribleidea · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I'm not sure if mine are Oxo brand, but I would highly recommend angled measuring cups, they are so much more convenient to use.

u/moxiousmissy · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have the Pampered Chef version of these measuring cups I love using these since I can see what I am measuring much better.

My mama got us a Soda Stream and it has saved gobs of money on energy drinks and pop. I think that the majority of the sodas taste better than their more expensive counterparts and they contain way less sugar!

While I do not have one of these; I am thoroughly convinced that I NEED one. =)

Edit: Let's do it in the kitchen.

I got so excited I forgot the raffle phrase :p

u/mondomondoman · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

You're gonna need a can opener I chose thus one because my wife can only use one hand.

You can never go wrong with a good sturdy measuring cup

Measuring spoons are handy to have too.

And lastly since its your first place so you'll probably be eating a lot of pasta if money is tight so you'll need a good strainer

u/bc2zb · 2 pointsr/AskCulinary

We get a lot of equipment questions here, so I wanted to add that when buying equipment, build quality is important, but also key is design quality. For example, stainless steel measuring cups are garbage if they look like this. You want the handle to be aligned with the top of the cup so you can sweep your dry ingredients starting from the handle and going across. Any handles that don't allow that are poorly designed.

Go to your nearest big box store and pick up a small measuring cup and an eye dropper. Each should have measurements in ml. These will make measuring a breeze. Depending on which method you're using, follow either of the top two links from their website respectively. Each measurement is based off one gallon. For example, if you're doing simple recirculating, you would use 10ml per gallon for week 3. Keep your proportions. Using week 3 again you'd use 10ml of micro, 10ml of gro, and 5ml of bloom. The instructions say to change your nutrient solution every 7-10 days. Since my plants don't seem to use a full serving in 7-10 days, I switch up my proportions and do a half or a quarter serving so my ppm isn't too high. My feeding would be 5ml of micro, 5ml of gro, and 2.5ml of bloom. Follow Lotus' advice and keep your pH between 5.5 and 6.5 or do a google search for optimal hydro pH range of your plant. Always start with micro.

Don't get down because of lack of sales. You are doing this when you are 23yr old and not when you are already burdened with life ahead. So, pat yourself in the back for a great start. And, tighten your belts.
My notes/questions:

  1. Have you turned on analytics on your site? For basic look, I couldn't see it enabled.
  2. Do you know if people are adding the product to the cart but are abandoning it?
  3. Where are your visitors coming from? Organic or from referral from other diabetes-related sites? It is possible that people are visiting your site just because it shows up as a result somewhere that is not relevant.
  4. Your website is an initial start but there are some obvious things you should attend to:
  • Site is minimally styled, which is good for customer eyeballs, but for selling products, you need more styling
  • Add some more information/articles/links/sources about diabetes and portal control, cite some experts
  • Have you tried to add some more cross-sell any complementary goods on your websites that can draw in a customer? How about giving people a package of goods for discount?
  • You don't have any pictures of the packaging that the rings come in. That in my opinion is a fatal flaw in marketing since customers don't know what they are going to receive in their hand when they receive your product.
  1. You currently seem to have one product only. Have you tried to kickstart sales by using Amazon/ebay stores? You will be able to leverage the millions of customers who are already looking for diabetes related stuff. For example: http://www.amazon.com/Meal-Measure-Portion-Control-Tool/dp/B004Z0SDXC/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373560993&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=diabetes+portal+control is a portion-control cup and it already has some decent reviews on the product.
Hope this helps.. I spent my time majoring in marketing in MBA and do website/search engine stuff as a hobby. You seem to have a decent product, but need to sharpen your focus and refine your USP.
    edit:grammar
u/mogrim · 2 pointsr/AskCulinary

While I can't help much with the cake, as an ex-pat living abroad I'd really suggest you get a book using the local ingredients and quantities - it'll make your life a lot easier. Apart from the measurements, ingredients vary too - self-raising flour is the main one I'm thinking of, but things like butter are often more or less salty, bacon's got more or less fat, etc. And that's assuming you can even get the ingredient, of course...

Edit:

If you really want to use a cup as a measuring instrument, just use a small glass filled to a bit below the brim. (Most small glasses IME measure out at about 250-300ml volume, which is about right). I wouldn't bother trying to change them to grams. Also, Amazon.fr will no doubt be overjoyed to sell you a set of measuring cups, they'll probably cost less than €10. (For example: http://www.amazon.fr/Miniamo-Brights-Lot-cuill%C3%A8res-doseuses/dp/B007J3JR4G/ref=pd_cp_201_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=121F3MR86GBXC2SCKHF0 )

Your cake... A burnt top and runny inside suggests you made a mess of the temperature conversion and ran the oven too hot. Or your oven runs hot. The recipe itself looks pretty foolproof, and shouldn't be too dependent on local ingredients.

u/LongUsername · 2 pointsr/Cooking
  • 10" cast iron skillet.
  • 6qt pot for making pasta & larger batches of chili and soup.
  • 2qt saucepan for making sauces/reheating soup/Mac & Cheese.
  • Fibrox Chef's Knife
  • Paring Knife.
  • Cutting board. You're going to have to hand wash it, so wood is fine.
  • Measuring spoons, maybe 2 adjustable ones if I was trying to go completely minimalist, but probably just a good set of stainless steel ones.
  • 2c liquid measuring cup (glass so it's microwaveable).
  • 2c adjustable Plunger measuring cup.
  • Rubber spatula
  • Turning spatula
  • Set of long cooking chopsticks for flipping/stiring stuff.
  • 9x9 or 9x13 pyrex pan.
  • Jelly roll pan (more flexible than a flat cookie sheet)
  • 2 Stainless Steel Mixing bowls.

The big thing while cooking with smaller amounts of cookwear is to keep soapy water in the sink and wash stuff right away so it's ready to go when you need it. You don't need multiple knives: just wash it quick, wipe it dry, and use it. Same with measuring stuff (just be smart about measuring dry before wet as well)

I'm also assuming that you have Plates/flatware/bowls/etc. Make sure to have enough bowls (I like Corelle ware for cheap and durable) to do your mise en place to quickly reuse the limited measuring cups.

I absolutely LOVE to cook, I'm obsessed with food, and learning to cook, and I'm currently learning to bake. I mean, I did pretty much learn the basics when my parents were raising me at home, but I didn't go all out of my way to learn much more than that since I wasn't really that into sweets once I was out on my own. Now that I'm all grown up, my first husband and I made really good money so if we wanted dessert we just bought it, but my family now, my second husband and children, we are a lot more on the poverty level, so I'm learning to REALLY bake. And I LOVE it!!! It's actually a lot of fun!! I'm currently knee deep in a ton of fruit, and trying to figure out how to bake it all into something delicious!! Anyway, I have tons of baking stuff and food items on my list, but one thing on my list I super need are measuring cups and spoons! Here's an under $30 example that looks like it'd help me out quite a bit!

Unless you are looking to look fancy don't waste your money. Just go to amazon/walmart and find a shaker tin, all-in-one "jigger", and a pint glass from your local cabinet. That is really all you need to get started.

If you want to add on some stuff just to make life easier you can get a bar spoon, muddler, strainer, fine strainer (get rid of those ugly ice bits), and a citrus juicer.

Save your money for alcohol to make more drinks!

Maybe some budtenders can, but most are full of BS when it comes to advising customers. They act like they know what they're talking about, but usually don't.

My recommendation is to buy some high THC weed and also some high CBD/Low THC weed and then play around with mixing them until you get the right head. Even better if you get three strains into the mix. For me, a good sativa, a good indica, and some CBD-heavy weed.

That way you can experiment and learn what you enjoy/need at any given time, and then mix up the right stuff when loading your vape or pipe. I use a very, very tiny spice measuring spoon set to measure it out. The ones labeled drop, smidgen, pinch, dash, and tad. Here's a link:

https://amazon.com/New-Star-Foodservice-42924-Stainless/dp/B00KH9PSNI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1468181696&sr=8-6&keywords=spice+measuring+spoons

Mixing up blends is far superior to trying to find the perfect strain. Make your own.

I was mainly pointing out that measuring by weight is far more accurate than volume regardless of unit. Of course for some things like water or butter volume is fine. But for flour, sugar, and irregular things like chocolate chips/fruit weight is much preferred. Really doesn't matter what the unit is as long as it gets the point across.

Although I admit, as a US baker I have far more utensils with cups/fl oz than ones with milliliters, deciliters or centiliters.

[This is my preferred tool] (https://www.amazon.com/Emsa-Perfect-Beaker-with-Seal/dp/B00004R92L) for measuring out ingredients by volume since it has all the major units both metric and US. Also works well for scaling ingredients too! Although I wouldn't pay $10 for it, I think I only paid 4 or 5 for mine.

u/travanator · 1 pointr/Coffee

I actually just use a measuring cup and it works really well for pourovers. I honestly have just as much control over how much is poured and it has a steady controlled stream.

To keep the water hot I'll just pour a little in the cup, pour over the coffee how much I need right away, if I have to wait for water to go down on the pour over cone, then I'll add some hot water from the kettle to keep it hot, then continue.

Living in a dorm or small apartment? A 1-quart Pyrex (or similar) measuring cup.

But I'm not going to be baking, you say. No doubt. But in the event you eat/drink any of the following:

  • Soup
  • Noodles
  • Mac and cheese
  • Leftover Chinese food
  • Tea
  • Ice cream
  • Cereal
  • Oatmeal
  • ETC ETC ETC

It's an optimally sized bowl for most of these items in that even if it's larger than necessary it's not so large or oddly shaped that it gets in the way. You can carry the cup, you can eat standing up because you can hold the handle. It's nuke proof and not too hard to wash (pro tip, you can use baking soda to wash dishes - it's the best way to get tea/coffee stains out of mugs when you don't have access to a dishwasher, e.g. in a dorm). I don't remember why I got one my first year of college but I used the hell out of it. Not sure if the one I have now is the same or not but I do know that over a decade later I still use it quite a bit (still love some ramen noodles).
u/mxzf · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

This is what I tend to do. I learned early on that those 4c Pyrex measuring cups are freaking brilliant in a dorm room (or life in general). You can cook pretty much anything in those things if you're clever about it.

I'm really interested in any tips on DME storage.

My pro tip is to measure out the DME into one of these large pyrex measuring cups before adding it to the boil -- it's easy to get rid of any 'cotton candy' and dissolve all of the DME in the boil by just immersing the cup into the boiling water/wort. Or use any heat-resistant bowl.

u/96385 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I have those measuring cups. The only thing I don't like about them is that the handles bend too easily. Eventually, they'll just break off. At that price, they aren't terrible, but not BIFL in my opinion. All-Clad makes a set of measuring cups that look and feel like they will really last. I don't own these, but I've physically handled them at least. These aren't for the budget conscious though.

u/kbotc · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

> The Allclad skillet is way overpriced compared to the identical Cuisinart.

Cuisinart is made in China, while Allclad is made in America. Like many things made in China, Cuisinart will depend much more on batch quality and whether someone's trying to line their pockets by cutting costs on materials that you won't run into with a "brand" that has an image to keep.

As an example of Chinese made goods cutting corners on materials, look no further than All-Clad's kitchen utensils:

http://www.amazon.com/All-Clad-Stainless-Measuring-Cup-Set/product-reviews/B0001ACKWU/ref=cm_cr_dp_qt_hist_one?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0

Before I got a goose-neck kettle I used a glass measuring cup with a pour spout (e.g. this one) I don't know how much improvement you would get over straight from the kettle, but it's worth a shot. Heat loss can be combated by using boiling water to begin with or by pre-warming the vessel.

u/swaggyson · 1 pointr/Coffee

I've never used a gravy separator, but I've used a glass measuring cup for coffee many different times in a microwave. The gravy separator is a great idea! I would recommend go with the simex as it's borosilicate glass.

In regards to boiling water in a microwave, I would suggest putting a chopstick in the cup for safety as it's heating. The chopstick will break the water's film, allowing it to "roll", and prevent it from being super-heated and exploding.

You look wonderful today, did you do something new to your hair?

You should get this can opener is made of good thick steel, it's heavy in the hand and I have never had a problem opening a can with one. Bonus, it has a bottle opener on it.

And this is an excellent liquid measuring cup.

You may also want some of the following:

Hand soap for the kitchen and bathroom sinks, hand towels.
You need basic first aid stuff, like adhesive bandages (band-aids) and rubbing alcohol, good tweezers. Include basic pain meds, stuff for an upset stomach, allergy meds, or any prescription medications you need.

Sponges and scrub brushes. If you want to use a swifter type thing, I'd like to recommend this I have used it to clean offices and it works. The handle is pretty heavy duty and you can make or buy extra cleaning cloths, then you just put them in the washer.

Oh a colander, I will admit I picked that one because it's cute.

I love my rice cooker I use it to steam vegetables or cook rice at least once a week. I have the larger version but that one would probably work, or the larger one.

I could use one of the following: Notebook or Scissors or a Book.

u/babycrazers · 1 pointr/breakingmom

I keep this guy on hand for pouring jobs. Most of the time I don't even really wash it -- I just immediately rinse it with hot water and put it back on the drying rack.

As for physics, try using a spoon or something to guide the liquid you're pouring.

u/Konryou · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Just to add to warwatch who had most of what was on my list:

  • bathroom floor mats
  • measuring cup (this kind and this kind; Pyrex is good for the former but any old set will do for the latter)
  • dish brush (like here, way better than a sponge)
  • whisk
  • tongs
  • tupperware containers
  • grater
  • coasters
  • ramekins
  • meat thermometer (I got this one about 4 months ago and it's been pretty good; no more "is this what cooked pork/chicken/meat looks like?")
  • silicone spatula
  • pot holders, oven mitts
  • Various sizes of wall hooks. Useful for hanging things on the wall that would otherwise be leaning or on top of something (broom, mop, linter, hair dryer, depending on your cabinets you can even hang pot lids on the walls of the cabinets)
  • paper towel holder
  • shower/bath organizer - depending on how you are set up, you can use a shower caddy to hold most of your things; my showerhead and the pipe leading to it from the wall is angled in a way so that isn't possible but I've had this for about 1.5 years and it has been great.
  • if you have a cabinet in the bathroom, something like these small drawers may be useful for organization.

Some of this depends on how much cooking you are planning to do, but it's all pretty essential in my experience.
u/tourmaline82 · 1 pointr/Cooking

I'm not going to say the obvious like knives, basic cookware and large kitchen appliances. If you're in this subreddit, chances are you already have those. Instead I will tell you about my not so obvious but much beloved kitchen gadgets.

A set of nesting tempered glass bowls. Mix ingredients in the big or medium ones, mise en place with the little ones, serve things like tossed salad or mashed potatoes also in the big ones. If you need a bowl, chances are one of these will be the right size, and because they're glass they don't hold on to odors or stains like plastic does.

The Wonder Cup! If your recipe doesn't have weight measurements and you're measuring something like molasses or peanut butter that would be a pain in the ass to get out of a normal measuring cup, Wonder Cup will be your salvation. I would not want to make peanut butter cookies or BBQ sauce (I like molasses in mine) without my Wonder Cup.

Following the same theme, my Mini Measure, aka that measuring shot glass thing. Measures in mL, fluid oz, teaspoons and tablespoons. Sure, you can use a measuring spoon, but I'm kind of clumsy and tend to spill those. Lot less spillage with my little shot glass.

Silpats. I bake a lot of cookies. Grease flat out doesn't work as well and I have almost lost several sheets of raw cookies due to parchment paper slipping and sliding around. Silpats stay where I fucking put them.

Wire baking racks, I prefer the kind that have a grid of wires as opposed to wires only going one way. Thin cookies have a tendency to slide through the latter.

A KitchenAid stand mixer, I could not make meringue or lebkuchen (German spice cookies, the dough is really stiff) without it.

Probe thermometer, I have a Lavatools one and it works quite well. Is the lamb done? I dunno, poke it and find out!

Digital kitchen scale that easily switches to different units. I freaking love European recipes, weighing my ingredients is so much faster and easier than messing with five different measuring tools.

You can cut butter into flour with knives or a fork, but it's easier with a pastry cutter. Several of my go-to baking recipes require cutting butter into flour, if you don't bake much you probably won't use it as much. Also excellent for making egg salad.

Garlic press! Given half a chance I would put garlic in every savory dish I make. I adore garlic.

There is a calculator here: https://www.genesisfoods.co/calorie-calculator

I have around 500ml of water, and around 40-50ml of double cream, depending on my mood. I could use more and be within my calorie count.

I use this blender, which has a 600ml bottle.
Avoid blenders that only have 500ml, as you'll struggle to get the right consistency.

You'll also need some scales. I strongly suggest some digital ones. Put the bottle on, reset the weight to zero (so the bottle isn't counted), and put in 50g of powder.
Then add cream / water.
I use these measuring cups to get a good indication of how much I'm using. Generally, I stick to the 14ml one, and use it multiple times to get what I want. The 5ml is useful for MCT oil measurements (take this one slowly!)

You can even use the scales to measure the cream once you've worked out how much it weighs! Different creams weigh differently, so I can't give you a figure for that one.

I don't have 3 shakes a day. I generally have a black coffee early in the morning (8am), a shake late morning (10-11am), another around 3-4pm and then actual food on the evening / night. Salad / meats / cooked veg. The only thing I have to be careful with is gravy, as most supermarket stuff can be a bit high on carbs, so water it down plenty and use the cups above to measure it out. As long as you stay within your carb count, it's fine.

The rest is just learning what products you can and can't eat and understanding how keto works. Don't get disheartened if you stall etc.

Alright, that we can work with, 20$ budget and no existing bar:

-only two tools are remotely important: shaker and jigger. The rest is pretty much irrelevant, and can be easily replaced with things you have at home. Even the jigger is fairly irrelevant, because it only needs to be precise to itself. Doesent matter if the 3cl mark is actually 3.2
So I'd recommend you take the 20$ and buy a decent shaker, and maybe a small one-sided jigger.

you don't really need a Hawthorne strainer and weird spoon an all that, to be honest i usually can't be bothered to use them when im making cocktails for myself and are not in a hurry. Those tools are made to speed things up at a bar, but aren't a necessity.

i recommend spending the money on ingredients rather than additional tools for now, if you find out you really like that particular kind of cocktail then you should develop the bar in that direction.
