I'm a guy who's not had to deal with the same difficulties you're facing, but I have had my share of meds/pain, and I've picked up a few tricks along the way, some of which might be of use.

With regards to daily medications, I have a routine where I put my daily morning/night little case (this one, or similar) on my table directly next to my bed, so I am literally staring at it when I wake up. I also have a bottle of water there. So I wake up, sit up, and take my morning meds. There's nothing on that table except for my glasses case, my daily meds case, and the bottle of water.

In the evening, same deal. As I'm getting to bed, I take my evening meds, and swap out the empty container for the next morning's one.

For the first few years I was on daily medications, I would have a daily timer set on my phone at a fixed, and as soon as it went off I would go and take my meds. If I wasn't able to take them right then (out of the house or w/e), I would re-set the timer for an arbitrary length of time, where I thought I'd be back home. That way I wouldn't forget. Over time, I've stopped needing to set a timer, but do what works.

Point is, you can do it! Take the step that lets you be able to utilize the wonders of modern medicine (tm).

As for remembering to take pain meds when you're in pain, I feel your pain (hah). I've been through that situation a lot of times. The best strategies I've figured out are to keep just one or two of a lighter pain med in a case in my bag (I used this one, but anything that tightly seals is fine), as well as one on my desk (as opposed to the rest of the bottle, which is up in the box with the rest of my meds, etc). That way when I'm hurting I can just grab the pill there and take it, and I know ahead of time that I've just put what's safe to take in a single dose out.

I've also on occasion put a sticky note on my computer monitor that just said "if you're hurting, take pain meds"... Surprisingly effective.

Sorry for the essay, I'm just hopeful I can help share some stuff that worked for me, stuff I wish someone had told me years ago.

One of these? keychain pill box I don't know how many you can fit in at once but you can keep that on your keys / on a lanyard and in your pocket / etc. I would suggest keeping the prescription label in a wallet

I’ve also seen a med bottle cap that has a time counter that resets each time it’s opened.

Any little present that shows that someone loves me, CFS and all, is honestly the best thing I could get. I think that many of us (definitely me) get in our heads about whether we and our illness are too much of a burden for an SO. Even when we're single we can get in our heads about whether we'd be able to date an imaginary future person. For me this can get really amplified around holidays. A little card, a little toy, anything. It's the meaning behind it for me, doesn't have to be much.

In that vein, a lot of friends have given me stuffed animals since I got sick. While I feel a little silly to be a grown woman with a bunch of stuffed animals in the house it also serves as a nice reminder that I still have friends and they still care about me, even if we aren't always in close touch.

As for CFS specific things, some folks on here showed me this badass medbox with tons of room. I LOVE it.

A good comfy pillow to their liking.

Nice looking compression stockings if they have POTS.

Cozy socks/slippers

I got this almost adult looking sippy cup so that I can keep hydrated when I can't sit up.

A good bedside tray or table.

A SAD light for those who have trouble in the winter.

A nice poster for the walls, unless it's going to visually overstimulate them. When you're looking at walls all day it can be nice to change scenery.

edit: goddamn brain fog words are hard.

u/not_the_queen · 9 pointsr/ADHD

I've done this more times than I can count, it's one of the drawbacks of medicating ADHD, actually remembering to take your meds properly. You'll feel shitty and speedy for a few hours.

To make sure you don't do this again, go buy a weekly pill box like this one and fill it up once a week. Always fill it up at the same time every week, so you don't forget that either and wonder if you've taken your Sunday morning pill yet (yes, sadly, I speak from experience here.) I also use a timer app on my phone, set for 4 hours, to remind me when the med is wearing off. This helps not just to remind to take my meds on time, but will also help me to remember that if I'm feeling overwhelmed and can't figure out what I'm supposed to do, it might be the med, not me.

u/Porkjungle · 7 pointsr/bipolar

Yes, I have two cases so that I only need to refill pills once a month. They have four spaces for every day which is great because I take crap 3x day. It's really helpful for if my alarm goes off, I take the pills, then forget if I took them or not. I just look at the pill case and I can tell which day and which time have already been taken.

This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074MC6HJR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ix7HDbKQ9AMP9

u/wz_ · 7 pointsr/eldertrees
u/Jin_the_Wanderer · 6 pointsr/bipolar

I do, yes. There are a few things you can do though; I asked someone else to handle my meds for a long time since I didn't trust myself, if you can rely on a family member, friend or whoever, it's a good alternative.

There are also special pillboxes such as this that are locked and have a timer so it only dispenses the medication for the given time and day so you can't access all of them, at least not easily. Do give the key to unlock the thing to someone else of course.

That said, I do fight the urge to down the bottle more often than not but I'm trying to learn how to live with it by distracting myself from that intrusive thought, mainly with music.

Stop taking them though, no, it's been hard enough already to reach the point I'm in right now to flush everything down the toilet. Besides, I'm not angry at the world anymore, well, not as much as I used to be, so that helps.

Take care of yourself.

I think those hair clinic places view you as one of two kinds of patients. You're either a guy like us with semi-fixable hairloss, or you're an older rich guy who they can try to get to pay tons of money for drastic treatment. I think they don't pay a ton of mind to the stuff that doesn't pay them a fraction as much as those whales do.

The Proscar trick is super easy. Basically, Finasteride is a prostate drug. They were giving it to old guys to reduce their prostate size, and their hair started growing back. So it was rebranded as Propecia (and I guess the topical stuff your doc recommended), and sold at a lower dosage for a lot more money. But you can still purchase the prostate version Proscar, which is 100% Finsasteride, exact same drug as Propecia, just at a different dosage. It costs $9, with no insurance, here in California, for 30 pills. The pills are 5mg of Fin, and Propecia is 1mg per pill. So you just purchase a pill cutter (I got this one on Amazon for $5), and cut the pills into 4ths. So 30 5mg pills becomes 120 daily doses of 1.25mg. That's $27 for the whole year, vs. hundreds a month for Propecia. If you want to get on Fin, this is the way to do it. I just asked my regular general practice doctor about it at a checkup, he knew exactly what I was talking about, and wrote me a prescription within 30 seconds.

As for results, I've been on it maybe for just about 2 years now. My baldness was mostly in the crown. I saw some regrowth there, and my hairline moved up slightly in the front. Not dramatic results, but I'm happy for $27 a year. And I've only been using Fin. What it really did was freeze my hairloss in place. It was rapidly losing more and more hair, and it just stopped it in place. So the sooner you can get on, the better, even if it's not a massive regrowth. It works differently for everyone.

I'm about to get on Rogaine again (I had years ago, but it wasn't totally working after a while, and I also had kind of long hair then and it was tough to manage. I have a buzz cut now.), so I'm hoping the combination is more effective at regrowth. But for literally everyone I know who has gotten on Fin, it did one thing. Froze their hairloss. Some had great regrowth, some didn't. But the results are pretty clear from everyone I personally know.

And if you're still worried about the side effects, /u/Clannadqs posted a great thing here a couple weeks ago. I'll quote it below if you want to read it, but it's a great into to why you shouldn't believe all the weirdos in the "hair loss community." It's honestly not a place I expected to find fringe lunatics, but there are a lot of them. They remind of people you see in /r/conspiracy. Pay them no mind. Here's his post:

>Hey guys, I'm pretty new into hairloss as I just found out I was receding not even three weeks ago. I spent the last two weeks researching everything I could and frantically posting every where about it in hopes of getting help and dealing with it. Here are a few tips from me if you are new to losing hair like me.
Entirely ignore websites such as hairlosstalk, baldtruth, and slybald guys. They will never help you and will leave you in a worse state than when you went into it. hairloss and baldtruth are full of some of the most depressing humans you will ever find on this planet. If you even show any signs of balding they will tell you to enjoy not having a social life, have fun being a recluse, etc. On top of that, they are never in agreement about anything so when you ask questions you will be in a worse spot than before as well as "experienced" hairloss accounts are disagreeing right in front of your eyes. Also, don't go to slybaldguys because they will try to convince anyone to just shave their head and are completely delusional about the social impact of hairloss.
Do not give into fear-mongering about finasteride or dut. That's another reason to keep away from these idiotic forums. Most will recommend fin or dut to help you out, but there are many that add fuel to the fire of fear-mongering. I'm well aware there are probably a few unlucky souls out there that experienced legit side effects from finasteride that continued after quitting, but 99% of the time I immediately view a poster who is going around spreading fear of these drugs as a complete idiot and ignore anything they have to say after that. There are dozens of studies that conclude that finasteride is entirely safe and in almost all of them outside of the PFS backed study (who would have guessed?) show the placebo group reported basically the same amount of sides during the test periods as the group actually taking the medication. Also, fear while taking the drug can actually mentally-induce sexual side effects on yourself and if you are mentally weak it can continue after discontinuation. I have NEVER heard of blood levels not returning to normal after discontinuing the drug. This shows there is literally zero connection between fin and these sides and the people experiencing them have absolutely no evidence it was finasteride in the first place. Just ignore these people. This leads me to the next tip.
Get all of your advice from medical professionals and medical professionals only. 99.9% of the time your doctor will tell you finasteride is safe to take no matter how many different doctors you go to. Don't waste your time listening to some 500 post "expert" claiming he has erectile dysfunction while providing no blood tests, no mentions of family history, no mentions of what else they were taking or doing, etc. There has NEVER been a connection scientifically or medically to finasteride being the reason for these sides. As I said above, the placebo groups over 1-10 years reported the exact same sides close to the same percentage. Some people are natural all of their life and still have these issues at even 25. Don't live your life in fear.
Post here (tressless, not this thread) for quicker responses if you do genuinely have a question that you want answered. This has, by far, been the best community to approach about this. There are no depressing individuals from what I have seen, people reply extremely quick, and there are some smart people here.
No matter what you read around about natural remedies, vitamins, etc if you don't hop on fin or dut, you will lose your hair if you are prone. Not advocating taking these medications, it's up to you. But make sure you won't regret your decision down the road.
Also, just to embarrass the user that tried to throw out the FDA review as an argument against finasteride, here are some of the results. Take time to read this page as it will ease your worrying. http://i.imgur.com/dqfIOYg.png
Thanks guys.

I was deathly afraid of pills until I was sixteen. Putting them in apple sauce, practicing swallowing pills with mini M&Ms, and using an oralflo really really helps. I’d suggest the last one first. In the mouthpiece is a net-structure where you can hide the pill. At times I couldn’t even feel it. There’s some more kid friendly ones, this is just the brand I’m most familiar with.

u/AskMrScience · 3 pointsr/LifeProTips

I do the same thing. An addition that changed my life? A modular pill organizer.

I take several daily meds. It used to be a big pain to count out pills before trips, since I didn't want to haul along a bunch of full-sized bottles.

Now I can just load my pills into the organizer like I do every week, then pop out the days I'm going to need on the trip and toss those into my toiletries bag.

My grandpa had a similar problem- he would forget that he had taken his meds and would take them again. There were multiple times where he overdosed and ended up in the hospital. I ended up getting him this dispenser and it has prevented overdoses for nearly 2 years. The lock is kind of a joke, but it's enough to convince grandpa that no one is taking his pills.

I bought this and it worked great! https://www.amazon.com/Pill-Mill-Crusher-Multiple-Pulverizer/dp/B075HZYT9G

I only used it for the first month or so after my RNY, but it was super easy to use, and fast.

Also, I'd pick up some liquid tylenol to use during the first month. Something I wished I did. Most ground up pills taste gross!

The number one thing is to set up a network of people. They can be old coworkers, his friends, her friends, family members, church members, neighbors, paid caregivers, who knows maybe boy scouts that need a badge, to give respite care. This can be sitting with them and chatting while you do laundry in the other room, taking them for icecream, letting you go to the doctor yourself, run errands, or just sit with them while you bang you head against the wall. Set them up before you need them, I have one person stop by once a week at least. I try to make it be around the same day/time so I can plan to take "me time" while they are there. This week I went for a massage, last week I took a nap. If you don't take care of yourself you will snap.

Bed alarms are great! They also make matts you can sneak under the carpet by the front door to prevent wandering.

I find making my day easier gives me more time to care properly which in turn makes my day easier! I do this by automating things when I can. I use one of these so I only have to sort pills once a week and can't forget a dose because of a minor catastrophe.

Ivation Automatic Pill Dispenser, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FL620B0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_JcKAwbXNQMT9X

I bought a good shower bench and shower wand to make shower time easier on me, as well as a wall based shampoo soap and conditioner dispenser so I don't have to fiddle with bottles. Something like this:

I love this help button!!!!!
LogicMark Freedom Alert Emergency Alert System -https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002IMW8O4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_ekKAwbHQ5JNY6

It works like a cordless home phone and has to be connected to a landline. You don't pay a monitor fee like most. You program it to call 4 numbers in order and then can choose to have it call 911 if the 4 people don't answer. I have it call me twice and the hired caregiver twice. When you answer it tells you it's and emergency and asks you to accept the call by pressing 5 so it isn't tricked by voicemail. It reaches way further than expected and you can speak to them through a mic and speaker in the button!

I also have to say that YouTube and Netflix are good too. Is he reminiscing about a certain time period? Pull up YouTube and find a documentary or news reel. Pull up Netflix and find an old film! Also for some reason my household can watch Simons cat animations for hours just laughing.

I put an iPad mounted to the wall by his bed. The tv was too hard for him to use and he lost the remote constantly , but you can lock a iPad into "guided access" meaning it won't do anything but the app it's in when you start it. I lock it in Netflix and start a movie at bedtime and he happily goes to bed instead of complaining he is not tired (even though he was just snoring in his chair). He can use it easily because you just tap the movie you want to watch. (He just chooses from the few he can see on the screen as he's not great at navigating)

In another way to make my day easier I got a automatic pet feeder and pay to have groceries delivered (thanks Safeway!) I use the app for my pharmacy to help me keep track of refills.

u/Lonely_Mr_Cadaver · 2 pointsr/ICleanedMyRoom

For storing your meds; they make pill organizers for different times of the day. Lots of people, especially older folks, have to take meds throughout the day.

This just came in the mail today because I've been so bad about forgetting my Savella and Gabapentin that I've caused myself to have withdrawal episodes.

Anyone else who's rolled around wailing uncontrollably for hours until you pass out because you're too afraid to go to ER and explain what a dummy you are will be able to relate. I thought the worst thing was being unmedicated, but it is not. The worst pain I've ever experienced with fibro was withdrawal. The reason being that the withdrawals do the opposite of the medication and add to the pain that is already there from being unmedicated.

Holy smokes, I hope this pill container works out. I like that it's rainbow. 🌈

It's a pretty cheap and generic grinder. If you want results like the magic flight finishing grinder but don't feel like paying the 30 bucks, check this out on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Cut-Crush-Pill-Splitter-Crusher/dp/B000E0ZHFO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1398122164&sr=8-7&keywords=pill+crusher) It's super cheap and grinds really really fine. You are not alone, you are not broken, and you can have a great sex life!

My situation is pretty similar. I have had the same problems with tightness and pain, and I also don't use tampons. What differs is that I spent most of my life sleeping exclusively with women, so I didn't worry much about it.

Eventually I ended up in a relationship with a girl for whom performing penetrative sex was a huge deal. We tried it, but I just couldn't do it. It was excruciatingly painful, impossible. She refused to use a smaller dildo, made me feel like shit for not being able to give her what she wanted, and held if over my head how much better her exes were than me. Awful. I consider myself a very confident person, but it set me back so far. After that relationship I didn't have sex for a long time because I had it so ingrained in my head that I was a sexual disappointment.

I had mentioned my problem to a gynecologist who also told me everything seemed to be in order.

So, I decided to treat it as if it was vaginismus. I bought a dilator on amazon. The one I bought is no longer sold but it was something like this: https://www.amazon.com/VuVa-Smooth-Five-Instructions-Pouch/dp/B076CS3STQ/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1517513312&sr=8-1&keywords=vuva+dilators

Instruction here: https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/patient-education/how-use-vaginal-dilator

When I started I could use the smallest one, but it was so uncomfortable. Now I can go straight to the largest, no problem, or use a regular dildo. I wish I could tell you how long it took but I used it really intermittently. Use them often. Masturbate before you put one in, or make sure you're really turned on and loosened up. Leave it in for a while. Relax. Don't stress about how long it takes. It's a process.

Anyway, I guess I like guys now, so sooner or later I'll be testing it out in the wild. I'm nervous too.

Be kind to yourself. Be on your own side. Find other ways to explore your sexuality while you figure all this out. Know that this type of pain is usually super treatable. And know that even if you didn't ever figure it out you are already complete and whole. Try not to worry so much about being able to be good enough for someone else and start thinking about what you want to feel. Sex is not a test for you to pass or fail.

It doesn't really help me ration as your method does, but those little pill cases are air tight. Stuff stays pretty damn fresh in there for a while after being ground and it is pretty inconspicuous if I carry it around (plus no smell).

It looks good and has plenty of compartments for each day which is a great help for the amount we have to take lol

I have an Anabox weekly pillbox. It's a rainbow! But it's also really functional and makes things much easier.

I do the weekly refill and I've also been trying out using an app on my phone called Medisafe. You can set reminders to take your meds and also track when you'll need to order refills etc.

I have one of these key chain pill carriers that I use for my Fury dosing capsules, but it would do just as well with ground herb. Decently thick construction, nice replaceable seal to make it waterproof, no issues with smell. I like it enough I am considering a second to make an compact emergency (waterproof matches/fishing line/etc) kit also.

If you want to stop carrying them purely for the mental impact their presence has on you, go for it and I am sure there will be some good advice provided!

If however you find carrying them to be a pain in the butt, I highly recommend this pill carrier on Amazon. My problem was I just wanted to carry around a little kpin with me, I'm not looking to store a week's worth of pills in there. I looked around and even ordered a few until I found this one, it is super unobtrusive and by far the smallest I have found. As an added bonus, this won't help you but for others- I use this to keep track of my intake. I am supposed to try and keep it to two a day so I load it up with 4 halves every morning and easy peasy. EDIT: Of course I forgot the link: https://amzn.com/B00MY9JUME

Don't think that at all. You're not a wuss. It's a really aggravating thing to have to deal with.

Do you know if the Concerta is extended release? If it isn't you can cut it up or open the capsule into a drink (I used to do orange juice or coca cola) and drink it quick.

If it is extended release I would do the following:
Put the pill on your tongue and with room temperature water drink a bit into your mouth. Swish the pill around in your mouth until you no longer feel that the pill is touching any part of your mouth. I use my tongue to move the water/pill around till I get it in the right spot. When it is in the right spot for me to feel comfortable swallowing, I then swallow. It has worked very well for me.

I wouldn't try and take the pill, whole, with soda or any carbonated beverage. It always made it harder for me.

I also purchased this cup in the past, but it didn't work for me because of my issues—but I know people who it did work for. Perhaps it's worth a shot!

Also, it's worth it to get something like this to keep them in, so you always have them on you. I have 'em on my keychain at all times, but it does add some bulk.

This is what I use when I am out and about or have to eat a big meal at work. That way you don’t have to carry a big organizer around and you can stay on schedule. I have never had a problem or been questioned about my medications. Many people need to take meds when they eat. This container is discrete and could fit in your pocket.

For my son I use a set of individual day pill boxes that is a set of 7. It has Morning, Lunch & Bedtime sections in each box. This one

It works really well, especially since he spends some weekends with his grandparents and I can just send the days that he needs instead of a whole week's worth.

u/orange_schmorange · 1 pointr/CrohnsDisease

I also use a toolbox for medication bottle storage, but fill one of these with routine meds each week.
My lack of organization is more of a problem for me when it comes to the never-ending task of keeping all the medical bills in order.

I just posted this in another thread, but I love my pill crusher for getting a find grind, and its much easier than the quarter in a pill bottle method. and doesn't take long at all. I even like it more than the finishing grinder.

It can also store ground herbs for the next trench or two. This is the same one I use, I think I paid $5.

I had an issue with this too. I found that keeping it in my car and taking it before work helped. Having it somewhere you see in the morning will certainly serve as a reminder to take it. There's gadgets like this which some people find useful:

If you Google pill swallowing techniques there's also lots of ideas, but it's been a while since I looked into it so not sure which sites are great. Generally they advice practising starting with cake sprinkles and working your way up. There's a way to do it with a water bottle that mimics the pill swallowing cup or some people find wrapping the pill in marshmallow or bread helpful

This sounds a lot like what happened to me and my long-term, long-distance boyfriend. Didn't have too many problems for the first couple years, then went long-distance and suddenly one time when he was visiting PIV became very painful. After two years during which we only successfully had penetrative sex a handful of times, I finally got diagnosed with vaginismus and have now been going to physical therapy for a few months with amazing results!

My guess is that there was one time that you weren't quite turned on/warmed up enough or were not lubricated enough, causing some discomfort or mild pain, and then every attempt to have sex after that became painful because your vaginal muscles are involuntarily tightening up in anticipation of pain. You've probably also begun to subconsciously associate sex with pain, further causing your muscles to seize up.

My suggestions: first of all, definitely go to a gynecologist to rule out anything else. Second, when you are having sex with your boyfriend, spend a LOT more time on foreplay. Like way more than you think is necessary. Make sure that during foreplay, he fingers you so that your vagina can "get used to" being penetrated by something smaller and stretch a little bit. You could even have him use a vibrator or dildo that's not as big as his penis on you. Also, once you do begin PIV, have him enter you very slowly and do some deep breathing to help you relax.

You could also look into getting a set of dilators, such as this: https://www.amazon.com/Discreet-Shipping-Instructions-Waterproof-Lightweight/dp/B076CS3STQ/ref=sr_1_16?keywords=vaginal+dilator&qid=1569850182&s=gateway&sr=8-16

It is a little spendy, but if it helps your problems the cost will totally be worth it!

Staggering medication start times is generally done so that if you have an adverse reaction to one of them, it's apparent which one is causing it. Also, I'm suggesting going bicalutamide-only initially just so you can tell if it's effectively blocking testosterone before starting the rest of the therapy.

By splitting pills, I mean getting a tablet splitter and physically cutting your pills into halves or quarters. Bicalutamide is intended to treat prostate cancer, so its dosage in a single tablet is actually much higher than most transgender women need.

A drug's half-life time is the amount of time it takes for your body to eliminate half of the drug. Flutamide has a half-life of 6 hours, so 12 hours after taking it, you only have a quarter of the dose still in your body, and an eighth after 18 hours. In comparison, bicalutamide has a half-life of 6 days, so you can sustain an effective level in your body around the clock much more easily. The flip side though is that if you took enough bicalutamide for it to immediately be effective at the first dose, you'd quickly reach toxic concentrations by taking that same amount every day. It takes about three months for the amount of bicalutamide you take daily to equal the amount eliminated by your body, regardless of what that dose is.

In the recent VLOG, TB said that he had a lot of problems with swallowing pills. My girlfriend has the same problem so I looked this stuff for her a while ago.

There are two solutions that I found:

  1. Oralflo Pill Swallowing Cup - Which you can get at Amazon for a pretty cheap price, which should help a lot. Link: http://www.amazon.com/OralFlo-RC-02-Oralflo-Pill-Swallowing/dp/B000NJJ3C4

  2. There's a site called 'Headstart', which is basically the Israeli Kickstarter, and some pharmacist is now trying to fund a device for swallowing pills as well (I just want to point out that I have NO relations to the guy, I just found out his project recently by chance). The device is already ready and can be bought from him for a very cheap price. It's in Hebrew, but I can help with that if needed. Link: http://www.headstart.co.il/project.aspx?id=10099

I'm not sure any of this is helpful, but maybe TB for some reason didn't search for this and it might help him.

    Feel better TB!

The spirulina is more of a dietary supplement than a health supplement I think, so there isn’t really anything specific to “feel” in any noticeable way like with some stuff. I take it because I don’t eat enough veggies/greens and am hoping it balances it out. Whether or not it is helping I have no idea, but the stuff if cheap and can’t hurt so why not.

The pill cases are part of a weekly organizer, I just popped out the individual ones for pics.
