That 'poop' smell can often come from your sinuses/throat/tonsils.

There are little white demon spawns which exist in your tonsils. They are aptly named 'tonsil stones'. They are soft funky things and unfortunately very closely resemble the odor of feces.

I occasionally suffer from them. Then best remedy I have found is to find something to allow you to flush out your tonsils periodically. This is the best tool I have found for this task:

Good luck!

Many people suffer from your affliction. Many of them gather here:

Just an fyi in case you didn't know. The costco brand of claratin, zyrtec, and other allergy medicine is dirt cheap, and you can buy them online.

What about D-Mannose

ETA- I read about this supplement here on Reddit somewhere and saved it on my Amazon wishlist. I don't get UTIs often. Only two in the past 15 years...so there it remains, on my Amazon wishlist. Lol.

Edit 2- I just remembered why I added it! I bought it to add to my cats' food since I have one cat that is prone to UTIs and a boy, who by default would be prone to them. Adding the powder version to my cart now.

Also, would "cats' " be right if I'm talking about multiple cats of mine? Or would I just say cats? Halp!

I use these for hiking. You boil them and then they be reused again. They last around 30ish minutes once they are clicked.

Except Tylenol PM has Tylenol (acetaminophen), and who the fuck needs that? Just get diphenhydramine -- 600 pills for $8.89 on Amazon. That's less than 2 cents per pill. I take 2 to sleep every night, and 1 bottle like this is about a year's supply.

Yeah this looks like moderate/severe eczema. Basically looks like my skin when I was a kid.

  1. Food allergy testing. People with eczema have overactive immune systems, and the odds are good there is a food allergy issue as well. Better to know sooner rather than later.

  2. Absolutely remove any scented detergents, soaps, perfumes, etc from her life to the extent you can. No fabric softener/dry sheets. Get some wool dryer balls to use as a way to soften fabrics instead of using residue-leaving sheets. No perfume or makeup. Scent free sunscreen.

  3. She needs a steroid cream. There are several formulations (lotion, cream, ointment) and several strengths (typically from 0.05% to 0.25%). You need to find a dermatologist who actually cares enough to prescribe her one. This is a very routine treatment and shouldn't actually be causing you difficulty to find. So I'm very sorry for you and your daughter that this has been difficult so far. Steroid creams can be harmful with intense and long term use, but they will dramatically help flare ups get under control. And, luckily, less dangerous drugs are literally coming onto the market next year (Dupilumab and others).

  4. House cleanliness. She may be having issues from dust, pet dander, mold, etc as well. Regular and intensive vacuuming and dusting and cleaning bed linens is critical.

  5. Lotions need to be scent free and actually moisturizing. Some good ones to try other than the Cerave: Cetaphil, Aveeno (once you've ruled out oat allergy), Avene, and Aquaphor. Some of these brands make eczema-specific formulations that are worth a shot as well.

  6. No more hot showers and lower the frequency of showering as much as you can.

  7. Some home remedies that can help: bleach baths (google to make sure you've got the right ratios), oatmeal baths (you can buy packets of it on Amazon or in drug stores)

  8. Education. Eczema has been called "the scratch that makes the itch." What this means is that sometimes an errant scratch is all it takes to set off an intense event of itchiness that makes you go crazy until you've ripped your skin open. She has to learn to try to resist the itching, because the more you scratch, the more you itch. It's so hard when you're a kid. But my mom would do things like putting gloves or socks on my hands at night to try to help. Benadryl, Zyrtec or other antihistamines may help as well.

If you were doing things a few years ago that made it not as bad, start doing them again. Eczema is sometimes a lifelong affliction (my situation). It's a constant battle against the immune system, so you can't give up things that made a difference

I'm a guy who's not had to deal with the same difficulties you're facing, but I have had my share of meds/pain, and I've picked up a few tricks along the way, some of which might be of use.

With regards to daily medications, I have a routine where I put my daily morning/night little case (this one, or similar) on my table directly next to my bed, so I am literally staring at it when I wake up. I also have a bottle of water there. So I wake up, sit up, and take my morning meds. There's nothing on that table except for my glasses case, my daily meds case, and the bottle of water.

In the evening, same deal. As I'm getting to bed, I take my evening meds, and swap out the empty container for the next morning's one.

For the first few years I was on daily medications, I would have a daily timer set on my phone at a fixed, and as soon as it went off I would go and take my meds. If I wasn't able to take them right then (out of the house or w/e), I would re-set the timer for an arbitrary length of time, where I thought I'd be back home. That way I wouldn't forget. Over time, I've stopped needing to set a timer, but do what works.

Point is, you can do it! Take the step that lets you be able to utilize the wonders of modern medicine (tm).

As for remembering to take pain meds when you're in pain, I feel your pain (hah). I've been through that situation a lot of times. The best strategies I've figured out are to keep just one or two of a lighter pain med in a case in my bag (I used this one, but anything that tightly seals is fine), as well as one on my desk (as opposed to the rest of the bottle, which is up in the box with the rest of my meds, etc). That way when I'm hurting I can just grab the pill there and take it, and I know ahead of time that I've just put what's safe to take in a single dose out.

I've also on occasion put a sticky note on my computer monitor that just said "if you're hurting, take pain meds"... Surprisingly effective.

Sorry for the essay, I'm just hopeful I can help share some stuff that worked for me, stuff I wish someone had told me years ago.

If you can't get Claritin covered by your insurance, I highly highly suggest Kirkland's generic. A year's supply costs me roughly $10 and it looks like you can even get it on Amazon now if you don't have a Costco membership

u/UCgirl · 9 pointsr/FundieSnark

I am so so sorry you had to put your dog down. I feel like let’s take on a hike knew special meaning when you are chronically ill.

Also, I would look up “emesis bag” on Amazon. They are disposable bags for throwing up. This is going to sound so weird, but picture a large condom. The open end is a hard ring. The rest is a touch plastic. Several ERs in my area use them. You hold the ring to your mouth and throw up into the bag. Then you throw it away. These have been a life changer for me. They come without being stretched out first (similar to a condom) so they can be stowed in the car, purse, wherever. And unlike solid pans/trash cans/etc., it’s easy to keep one in bed with you if you wake up ready to vomit. Here’s an example. I don’t know if this is the cheapest or anything. And they also come in packs less than 50. This isn’t a referral link or anything.

You do need a prescription, but I've never heard of anyone being denied. I just asked my regular doctor, who I'd never met before, at a physical and he wrote the prescription instantly, knew exactly what I was talking about. That was years ago, never had to go back in.

So, it's sort of complicated, but like I said, Finasteride is the name of the drug itself, Propecia is the name brand most people know it as (like how Advil is actually the drug Ibuprofen). Finsateride was originally invented as a drug to reduce prostate size in men with enlarged prostates, I believe, and when they started using it they noticed all these old guys were regrowing hair, so they resold the same drug as a hair pill.

Propecia is really expensive, at least $1200 a year, possibly more. Propecia is a pill that is a 1mg dose of Finasteride. However, you can get prescribed the generic version of just plain Finasteride in a higher 5mg per pill dose, that is supposed to be for prostates. Then you use a pill cutter (I got this one on Amazon for $4) to cut the pills into 1/4th. So then it is a 1.25mg dose (my doctor said the 0.25mg extra is not important enough to care about).

I live in California, and with no insurance mine costs $9 for 30 pills. Cut each pill into 4 doses. That's 120 days for $9, and 3 bottles will get you through a whole year. So $27 a year. Same exact drug, you do just a tiny bit of work (cutting the pills is honestly kind of satisfying to me) and it's 7 cents a pill instead of $3 or 4 per pill.

Note that the pill doesn't work for everyone. I know people who had a great regrowth of their hair, and some who it didn't work at all for. But it works for most I think. For me, it just froze my hairloss right were it was, but no significant regrowth. I was going bald fast at 25, so this was a godsend. I just wish I'd gotten on it sooner.

Most people suggest you do it in conjunction with Rogiane and a Ketoconazole shampoo. Those two plus Fin are called The Big Three. For more info check out /r/tressless, which is a sub just about hairloss.

u/brainhugs · 7 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I also used to get UTIs pretty much every month for a 2-3 year period of my life. It was hell. My doctor kept prescribing me antibiotics, which I took so often I think the bacteria in my urethra became resistant. There was one time I was in so much pain for so long I took too much Nitrofurantoin (the antibiotic) that it wiped out the 'good bacteria' in my system and I gave myself a yeast infection... on top of my UTI :(.

I was taking concentrated cranberry pills and drinking my weight in water daily, but I was always on the verge of getting a UTI. I would get one any time I had sex with my partner or drank more than one alcoholic beverage in a day.

I was so frustrated and miserable and worried that this was going to be my reality for the rest of my life. It was my partner who actually dug deep on the internet and found D-mannose, which is a sugar that's used to promote a healthy urinary tract. I am not a homeopathic/alternative medicine person, but I was desperate and totally down to try a sugar pill or anything that might help. Apparently the way that the D-mannose sugar molecule is structured, it attracts and bonds really well with the kind of bacteria molecules that grow in your urinary tract and cause the UTI.

D-mannose has changed my life. I think I've gotten an actual UTI once in the last 4 years (and I was in Indonesia). I use it when I think I might feel one coming on, and also as a preventative when I know I'll be drinking a lot or when there will be an extended period of time when I'll be more at risk (e.g. camping). It's mind blowing to me that I suffered for so long and talked to my doctor every 3-4 months to try to figure this out and just kept getting prescribed antibiotics. It was a huge learning moment for me with medicine and doctors. I ask every doctor I see now if they know about D-mannose, and so far no one has.

I can't know if this works for everyone, but I try to share this story with any many women as possible, because D-mannose has helped me get my life back. It's also cheap, you don't need a prescription, and it's on Amazon Prime! (Also in Whole foods for double the price if you're not able to order online -- I haven't seen it anywhere other than health food stores, but hopefully one day). Here's the one that I order: https://smile.amazon.com/NOW-D-Mannose-500-120-Capsules/dp/B000JN4CR0/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3NH0N6SBH0MH1&keywords=d-mannose&qid=1556468711&s=gateway&sprefix=d-manno%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-3&th=1

There are many people who have been stuck in your exact situation. The spray could be making your situation worse. I've read of someone using a weaning method to get off of it by using it on a single nostril and at lower doses until they got off.

I was in your exact situation and I would give you a few pieces of advice:

  1. See an ENT, if you can. I had gone most my life not knowing that I had broken my nose at a very young age and this was causing 80% of my breathing problems.

  2. Wean off the nose spray.

  3. Take an allergy test and find what you are allergic too. Then find an allergy medication that works for you and start taking it daily a month before and after the seasons that you are positive for. BTW, finding an allergy medication that works for you can be difficult. Many medications won't give you immediate relief, but will work great if you take them for a week or two. I use the Kirkland brand of Zyrtec which comes in a bottle of 365 pills for less than $20. If that doesn't work for you then find another med and see if Kirkland sells it.

I swear there is hope, but know that it will not be immediate and it will take some work getting it all together, but it is SO fucking worth it.
u/merlyn923 · 5 pointsr/reptiles

It's really all pretty simple. Keep them in a opaque rubbermaid tub. Cut a hole in the lid and hot glue a piece of screening to prevent escapes. You don't need any substrate - the roach frass will quickly accumulate and make a nice substrate. The nymphs actually tend to eat the frass, so you don't want to disturb or clean it too often. For heat, get a human heating pad. I use this one. Works like a charm. Put it under the tub on one side. Then you just need egg flats for them to hide/live in. You can order them online for cheap, or see if any restaurants have extras/left overs they are willing to give you. I got 70 flats for about $10. As for food, my opinion is that laying chicken feed is the best option. You can always throw in extra/old veggies and fruit as well - just don't give them anything that might be toxic to your reptiles. They do LOVE oranges though, and it puts them into sexual hyperdrive. For water, you can use water crystals. These absorb water, so there is no pool of water for the roaches to drown in.

My only other advice - let the colony do its thing for 4-6 months before you start regularly feeding out of it. They take that long to reach maturity, and if you fed out of the colony before then, it may collapse or not reach stable population of multiple sized roaches.

u/TheBuzzerBeater · 5 pointsr/Coachella

These are the best. They keep the dust out but are light. You can get em wet and keep cool when it's hot, they keep you warm when it gets cold, and easy to use when you're drinking a beer. I like that it comes in solid colors but they've got a bunch of patterned ones too.

Get these nasal rinse things if you're extra stuffed up. You can buy them at most pharmacies.

Get those two things and you won't have any problems. Trust me I shattered my nose playing football and I've got a crazy deviated septum (bring on the coke jokes).

u/niktemadur · 5 pointsr/wheredidthesodago

When one side of the nose is completely clogged up, the neti pot doesn't cut it, so I went on Amazon and bought an nasal irrigation system with an electric pump that delivers the saline solution with pressure, and let me tell, it's a beast!

I literally fought air sickness for 200 hours worth of flying. It would go away and come back again. I wanted to fly so bad I kept going. It was awful at some points. I’ve probably thrown up in a plane 5 times. All the “remedies” and treatments never worked for me. What finally did work for me was this: motion sickness band
Then I slowly started flying more regularly without it and the sickness went away. I have a really sensitive stomach and used to deal with car sickness too. Don’t give up on your dreams for motion sickness

u/RazzBeryllium · 4 pointsr/hamsters

What I would do is get a plain old heating pad (something like this) and stick it under the tank (not in it!) so that the heat radiates up through the bottom. HOWEVER, don't have it extend the full length of the bottom of the tank -- maybe only half or a third. If the pad heats up more than it should, you don't want to overheat your hamster.

The ones made for pets tend to be gentler, so you could also try something like this.

For warmer bedding, you can try Kapok shell fluff (like this, but can also be bought at PetCo). It has shorter fibers than the cotton fluff that causes controversy, so is safer for your ham.

Also get a space heater and put your ham near it (but not too close, because you don't want to go overboard and overheat them).

u/TheMaskedMarauder · 4 pointsr/Cooking

my heating pad is a Sunbeam... same kind of heating pad you might use to soothe a pain in your back or shoulder.

This isn't the same model but it looks pretty much the same

Sorry, don't have a camera at the moment. If interest in this post persists I'll post a pic.
I can describe it i think... take a towel, fold it in half, then half again. place the heating pad on top of the towel. Roll the towel and heating pad up (like a cinnamon roll). Place the roll into a pot and allow it to unroll, leaving an open space in the center.

This is the glass cylinder jar I use.. the tallest in this pic. Place that in the center.

should I try to clarify more?

I experimented with water first, to make sure I could maintain the 110-120 degrees required. I use a probe thermometer to keep watch on the process.

I’ve had one that I had to take 7 days of antibiotics in the past 2 years and that was only because I got lazy and wasn’t taking the D-mannose everyday. I now take 1000mg every night before bed in the capsule form (NOW brand) and if I feel symptoms coming on I take 2000 mg by powder every day for 7 days in addition to the 1000mg (2 capsules) before bed and haven’t had a full blown UTI since. I also recommend ordering the UTI test strips (you can get them cheap on Amazon) and test your urine from time to time. If the test strips indicate bacteria (even if you have no symptoms) up your dose of D-mannose daily until it’s back to normal range.

Yes to: Oatmeal (specifically colloidal oatmeal- Dr. Dray has a good video on this), Niacinamide, Green tea, Chamomile and Raw honey.

No to: Coconut oil and Lavender essential oil - these really aren't good for sensitive facial skin!

Don't have much experience with the others.

My new favorite skincare thing is making a mask with 1 tsp Aveeno colloidal oatmeal (https://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Soothing-Treatment-Itchy-Irritated/dp/B000UEAARO), 1 tsp raw honey, and 1 tsp yogurt. I've seen a lot of people on this sub make a similar mask.

u/LibraryGal · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Hooo boy, you are preaching to the choir. Okay, first things first. DO not use anything on your skin that has fragrances or dyes. I'm not sure where you're currently living but I know in the US Aveeno makes a line of fragrance and dye free products. The second thing I can recommend is seeing an endocrinologist. The kind of skin irritation you're describing can (not always, mind you) be attributed to a hormone imbalance. Especially if your skin type changed drastically around puberty. Finding a good dermatologist is paramount- there are a lot of sites dedicated to rating doctors, and failing that find any physician you use and like (GP, gyno, etc) and see if they can recommend anyone. Also ask around- friends, family, etc. to see if there are any other suggestions. When my skin is being especially unfriendly, I do an oatmeal bath- again, I like the Aveeno for this one. Lots of people also recommend elimination diets but I would not do that without consulting a general practioner or dermatologist. In the mean time, I would try to limit sun exposure, and any exposure to chemicals (cleaning fluids, use dye and fragrance free laundry detergent and the like) for a while, and try to remain calm- stress is another thing that can inflame your skin. Sorry for the length of this, but I hope it helps!

If you have amazon prime these work just as well for me and save me money:

Kirklands Fast Acting Lactase 180 count: $0.11 per pill

Kirklands Fast Acting Lactase 750 count: $0.109 per pill

They don't really go bad so you can stock up. But you also don't really save any more buying more (although if you don't have prime you'll get free shipping on orders $35 over which the 750 count has).

Oh gosh no! We get the Kirkland brand in bulk. I use them from time-to-time too. I'm not full on lactose intolerant but I get a little gassy sometimes. I know the chewable ones you're talking about, my parents gave those to me when I was a kid, bad memories.

Over-the-counter lactase tablets which you can chew just before taking your first bite or swallow of a dairy product are usually of great help to the lactose intolerant.

My sinus problems sounded exactly like yours. I started using one of these things:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CWT4JI

I used it whenever I felt like I needed it, which was like 2 or 3 times a month. After about six months, I ended up not needing it anymore. I use it maybe once or twice a year now if that. It totally fixed me up. You should buy extra salt made specifically for these things. And you should only use bottled or filtered water.

The system is designed to limit how far you can shoot the salt water up there. But I found that the farther in I could shoot it, the better the results were. IANAD and YMMV.

My girlfriend gets them from time to time and Canker-Rid is the only thing that has consistently worked.

I don't get them, but bit the hell out of my cheek one day, and that stuff worked super well on that too. Only thing - it hurts like hell when you put it on, and you've got to leave it on until it stops stinging (about a minute).

Oh these are neat! I've been using a weird bee wax product to seal the sore. Can't remember name, but found it on Amazon. These look much more user friendly. Easy to eat/prepare foods for snacking in-between meals. I don’t know if it was this way for anyone else but, I’d often have trouble keeping food down. Having easy things to munch on a bit after evacuating my stomach was nice.

Fresh towels by the bedside was nice for nights I would wake up sweating, which was often and annoying.

One edit:
If you’re considering vacuum sealed food storage you might also be the type(like me) who would enjoy the peace of mind cooking certain foods using sous vide might offer, as it allows you to control the exact temperature your food reaches. Although this might be a rather expensive route.

u/RobotPigOverlord · 2 pointsr/hamstercare

Place the cage on top of a heating pad (set on LOW heat), the warmth will radiate up to warm the bedding. Make sure the cage has LOTS of bedding for them to burrow in for warmth. Put the heating pad under 1/2 of the cage, so that if it gets too warm they can move to the other side to cool down.

I agree with the other comments that you should really work on getting the temperature up in your house in general.

Aside from that, I have heated pads that my cats love to sleep on. I've had them for over four years now and they're still working great! You just have to make sure you set them on low only, as the medium and high settings get too hot to handle for more than a few minutes at a time.

u/MelodramaticMe · 2 pointsr/BeardedDragons

I started my colony with some dubias I bought off Craigslist for $5.

For breeding, I used the advice on this page. I feed high-calcium chicken feed, which can be gotten for very reasonable prices when you buy in bulk at your local farm store. I use this heating pad (I need the larger one because I have two bins). It appears this smaller one is the same only smaller (same as far as not having an auto shut off "feature").

I have this one or something very similar. I put it under my hamstrings/glutes or lower back or lay on my stomach with my quads (but not penis) on top of it. It helps relieve the tightness after a workout and helps the muscles relax... at least that's what it does for me. Your mileage may vary.

I'm in a similar situation, I'm taking a dose of 15mg, my doctor forgot renewing my 5mg prescription so I have to split the 10mgs for a while.

there is something called a "pill cutter", I think it could be worth checking your local pharmacy if they sell one, otherwise you can split the pills with a sharp knife (which is what I will be doing for the next couple days).

if my geometry skills arent completely garbage, try cutting along the line of the the letter "T" on the pill (I made this image)

I tried cutting exactly between the letters "T" and "L", and the left part came out as bigger.

u/Rawtashk · 2 pointsr/tressless

>Are your 5mg pills small too?

Yes, they are. And they're also smaller than the 1mg ones when I was on generic Propecia.

>Quartering the pill isn't impossible, but it's hard to do it really well. Similar experience for you?

What kind of pill cutter do you have? I use this one and while I wouldn't say it's super easy, it's not that hard. Do one cut, rotate the 2 halves together, make one more cut.

u/coloumb · 2 pointsr/lexapro

Way too fast. Typically it's not a good idea to alternate the dosage when withdrawing from an SSRI as it puts your brain/body in a yoyo state of withdrawal. However, since everyone is different - the only way to know if alternating works is to try it yourself:

Before you start - get a pill cutter: https://www.amazon.com/Apex-Ultra-Pill-Cutter-Retracting/dp/B000EGKTGK .

  1. Once you have a pill cutter and assuming you have 10mg dosage size - Alternate 10mg / 5mg [cut 10mg in half] for a week, then take 5mg for at least 3 weeks and continue to take it until you feel mostly OK for at least an additional week [minimum time to take 5mg is 4 weeks].
  2. If you feel mostly ok, alternate 5mg/2.5mg [cut 5mg in half] and take it for a week, then take 2.5mg for at least 3 weeks and continue to take it until you feel mostly OK for at least 1 additional week.
  3. If you feel mostly ok, alternate 2.5mg/0mg for a week then stop. This is when the discontinuation side effects kick in and typically last 4-8 weeks. If at anytime the side effects are too brutal [keep you bed ridden], then only way to resolve side effects are to reinstate 2.5mg for ~3 weeks and then alternate 2.5/1.25 for a week, then take 1.25mg for at least 3 more weeks, then stop.

The preferred method of tapering off:

  4. Drop down to 7.5mg and take it for at least 4 weeks.
  5. If you feel mostly ok after 4 weeks, dropped down to 5mg and take it for 4 weeks.
  6. If you feel mostly ok after 4 weeks, drop down to 2.5mg and take it for 4 weeks.
  7. if you feel mostly ok after 5 weeks, stop.
  8. If at anytime the side effects are too brutal, reinstate 2.5mg, take it for ~2 weeks, and reduce smaller amount 1.25mg for at least 4 weeks.
  9. Then try stopping.
u/LeopoldTheLlama · 2 pointsr/ADHD

As far as splitting concerta goes, I'd call your pharmacist and ask. Then, if the pharmacist says no, you have it from his mouth, and not strangers on the internet, and you can go back to your psych with that.

About cutting pills in general, they make pill cutters that you can use to cut pills in half.

no definitely not confusing. I used to take medication and it was the same for me. Lack of appetite and felt like compete shit after and a little bit during as well. like i felt off during. but i say get a lower dose and try using caffeine it’s a natural stimulant that may or may not help. You’ll probably need a lot. like. a lot. but could work definitely has helped w me and if it makes you tired don’t be surprised it’s kinda weird w adhd my ex’s dad told me how it’s the opposite in the brain bc ADHD ppl take meds to calm them down where as if other ppl take them it’ll do nothing or hype em up. If others drink coffee they get jittery and we chill tf out. but in summary that dosage is very high and could be too strong. if you wanna make the most of it I say get a pill splitter like this one https://www.amazon.com/Apex-Ultra-Pill-Cutter-Retracting/dp/B000EGKTGK and take 20 mg in the morning and 20 at lunch or something. and tell guardian how you think it’s too strong. best of luck.

Hey, you are not alone!! I’ve struggled with the same thing (even before I had sex so it’s not always sex related, like you said). I remember wanting to scream when someone told me to “wipe front to back” one more time...

I finally figured out what works best for me, and I think a lot of other girls would benefit too. The first thing is HYDRATION. I mean, really hydrate. Drink at least 1-2 liters of water every single day. This is so key for prevention. When I am very well hydrated, I never get UTIs.

Second thing: Order yourself some D-Mannose from Amazon. This is a miracle supplement for UTIs, just read the reviews. There are multiple brands of D-Mannose. You can order it online or they sell it at local health food stores and places like Whole Foods.

As soon as I feel a UTI coming, or if I know I’m gonna have sex, I’ll take 2 D-Mannose pills and drink a ton of water. It works like a charm, and soo much better than being on antibiotics multiple times a year.

(Also know that since it’s a supplement it’s not officially tested or approved, but just read the reviews on Amazon).

Just don’t forget to drink water every day, like 1-2 liters (not coffee, not coke, etc). If you’re well hydrated, you’re less likely to need any supplement for UTI. Water is best for prevention.

This is fantastic advice. I pretty much only buy Kirkland brand medicine and it works great. I don't have a Costco near me, but I get it all on Amazon for almost as cheap. I got the allergy pills this guy is talking about in 2010 and I still have a bunch left. I thought they'd decrease in effectiveness over time, but thus far they're working great!

Here's a link to the pills NenupharNoir mentions. Kirkland is an awesome brand all-around; I honestly can't recommend it enough.

u/chadcf · 2 pointsr/Frugal

And you can get 600 for $9 on amazon. Probably slightly cheaper at costco but amazon requires no membership if you don't have one.

If cleaning your nose is something OP want's to try, I highly suggest this. It may look weird to shoot a bottle of water up your nose but this cleans stuff out! It's great for allergies and my doctor says these actually work better for sinus infections than antibiotics. She doesn't prescribe them because so few people are willing to use them. Buy the refill packets as it only comes with five.

I think Maltese might be a hypoallergenic breed actually, so that’s good! But yeah try different eating habits. I’m vegan now and my skin is pretty happy, in addition to not living with a cat or a dog these days. But dude, I totally get it. Sometimes it’s even hard to listen to other people’s advice, like do this, do that and you don’t see results. It’s maddening. But hang in there, something will change and you will see happy/healthy skin one day.
When my skin was really bad, like so bad I had to take 2 weeks off work b/c the pain and infections I had gotten as a result of my open skin , the only time I left okay, and comfortable was in an oatmeal bath. I would take one in the morning and one before bed. It was the only thing I looked forward too. I spent a lot of time in the tub and it seemed to offer some relief. I would also put a couple splashes of apple cider vinegar to help kill bacteria. Maybe give it a try? These are the ones I have used. Feel better💙

u/sampatel1998 · 2 pointsr/eczema

You'll have to try a few things to see what works and what you (your body) likes. Here's what I've done in the past when I've had a whole body issue. #1 Get the flare down and #2 Eliminate any itch causers.

  1. Bath. I soak my body in water and do some sort of oat bath like this http://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Soothing-Treatment-Count-1-5oz/dp/B000UEAARO

  2. Cream. I also find many creams tend to burn my skin when it's flared up, but I've stuck to this one for the one I use right out of the shower. So pat dry and lotion up with this http://www.amazon.com/Cetaphil-Moisturizing-Cream-Fragrance-Free/dp/B000052YMQ. If that doesn't work for you, try to find a lotion that works for you. Plain old nivea lotion also worked for me but it's a bit oily.

  3. Steroid. If you okay with them, you should hit this hard with something for a week (2 x per day), then back off to once a day.

  4. Sheets. Use clean sheets as much as possible. Even iron them with the steam on high (including pillow case). Use a smell free detergent if possible.

  5. Keep you bed and floor area clean and vacuum. Dust mites could be an issue.

  6. Chill out in bed a lot, relax, but on a good TV show. This will reduce stress.

  7. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated

  8. Take an allergy medicine to reduce itch

Okay, that's all I can think of now.
u/ldills · 2 pointsr/Hedgehog

I've had this issue with Bean for over a year! His spot though is towards the bottom of his quills though, like towards his butt. At one point his was on Revolution for six months, didn't make a single difference. Now I give him oatmeal baths every 2 weeks, and put a drop or two of olive oil in his food. The oatmeal bath also helps with the dry skin he gets in the winter, and I use it from time to time.

Buy generic (can't really go wrong as the key ingredient is the lactase enzyme), it's pretty cheap: 180 Pills for $21.99 on Amazon ($.12 a pill). You can probably get smaller quantities at a similar price point at your local drugstore. It's worth it to be able to eat ice cream without the dreadful repercussions.

u/notluke · 2 pointsr/Fitness

The liquid lactase is dramatically more expensive than the pills. A "dose" of liquid, as far as I've seen, has 750 "lactase units," (whatever they are) while the pills have 9,000 each. The bottle has 75 of these doses, and if you buy the costco pills, you get 180 for about the same price. So the liquid costs more than 20 times as much.

I wasn't actually intending to have the formal introduction at this point, but it was as good as ever. So, first off - Plant Fasciitis is the worst. I would start off by adding these two things to help with that - wearing these Plantar Fasciitis socks and massaging your heel/arch every night with this cream. I did both and it helped me SO much. I'm weird and only wear the socks when I'm at work, but my mother actually sleeps in hers...but that kind of freaks me out. The socks are tight and I have weird thoughts about my foot not getting circulation and falling off or whatnot. ANYWAYS... I also don't like popping pain relief medicine, so the cream is a great way to get that inflammation down and also into your muscles...and a little goes a long way!

Shoe wise, I actually wear Merrell hiking shoes I got from REI. I've got major leg issues (from breaking my leg as a teenager, having surgery to put 2 rods in my leg, and being in a wheelchair for six months) and those hiking shoes changed everything. I wasn't able to do backpacking trips longer than a weekend before them!

I also have an awesome pair of Mizuno running shoes. I went to a local running store here in GA called Big Peach Running and they record you running and tell you what kind of shoes to buy. I kind of thought it was a gimmick, but I heard so many rave reviews and ended up loving the experience. I'd never even heard of the Mizuno brand and was wearing Asics because everyone else loves them, but it turns out they aren't really right for the way I run and the support my ankle/leg needs. They for sure know what they are talking about and were the ones that helped me with the Plantar Faciitis stuff! I'm not sure where you are located, but if you have something like that around, I would defiantly consider it!

Last thing - I also wear insoles that were recommended to me by my physical therapist (because I couldn't afford custom insoles on my college-budget at the time) called Superfeet. Here is their website. Not super expensive compared to what else is out there and they come highly suggested. That is what I wear on a day-to-day basis inside my work shoes. They are lightyears better than the Dr. Scholes inserts I was wearing before!

I've been dealing with my leg/foot pain for about 8 years now and finally feel like I'm at a point where I can manage it without being in constant pain. I hope my years of dealing with this help and your pain starts to subside!

u/IksarNecro · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

Hey man, late to the thread but I wanted to share with you what I did when I started having pain in the same hand.

This cream is magic. Use it as directed, especially put on a good amount before bed.

Another thing I did was stop mashing. I was hitting my next ability like 10 times during the gcd when it wasn't really needed. I now time my abilities and the strain is gone.

Also, buy a mechanical keyboard if it fits your budget. If you're using a membrane one where you have to depress the buttons pretty hard, that's added strain that's easily eliminated by a more sensitive mechanical board.

Good luck man.

u/papertrailzz · 2 pointsr/keto

Hey, not sure if this will be helpful but I've suffered from Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis the past 17 years and I've found this arthritis joint pain to be really awesome in addition to traditional aspirin.

https://www.amazon.com/Penetrex-Pain-Relief-Therapy-Breakthrough/dp/B0026HDURA/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1501869833&sr=8-4&keywords=arthritis+cream

In addition, I've found it helpful to look for stretches on youtube for the muscles surrounding my problem areas. A lot of pain is due to muscles tensing up around injured regions, so stretches + foam rollers can help too.

If you are interested in running in the future, definitely get custom insoles from places like Roadrunner Sports. They have a bunch of tests/machines to make sure you're not putting pressure on injuries etc.

u/fastlerner · 2 pointsr/crossfit

Sounds like you need some SMR (self myofascial release). Get a beastie ball (or lacrosse ball if you don't have access) and work it into the bottom of your calf muscle and the bottom of your foot. To get the calf, sit on the floor with your butt all the way back against the wall and place the ball under your calf. Work around until you find the painful knot then lean forward and keep pressure on it. For the bottom of the foot, take off your shoe and stand on it while holding onto the rack. Work it around your sole. Working both of these areas should give you some relief. (You can also stand on a rumble roller with no shoes to work your soles, just hold onto the rack!)

The other thing I would recommend is Penetrex. This stuff is really effective at relieving plantar and tendinitis issues.

I'm not familiar with the Fingertraps, but it might be worth checking out some different shoes if the above doesn't help resolve it. Good luck!

EDIT: Don't be afraid to rest! You'll probably want to avoid runs until it's felt better for a couple weeks else you risk aggravating it again. Swap rows for runs until it's had time to heal.

Canker-Rid

u/crackersoncrackers · 2 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

Hey, if your SO is still suffering from canker sores you should try to get him some Canker-Rid

I have had canker sores for years and I tried EVERYTHING. This is the only thing I use nowadays. It gets rid of the pain, creates a protective layer, and heals them. It smells a bit funky and it can be tricky to apply, but this stuff is magic. I've never had a canker sore last more than 48 hours after putting this on, and mine used to last over a week. The little bottle is expensive, but mine has lasted me about two years and I'm nowhere near needing a replacement.

The trick to applying it is to dry the area thoroughly and hold a q-tip or something else absorbent right under the sore, and then let a drop fall into the area. The runoff will be absorbed by the q-tip. It's very runny and it dries fast, so it's easy to accidentally get it stuck on your fingers or face. Also, do two layers!

>all of which any child can buy no questions asked.

In many states, you have to be 18 to buy cough syrup w/ DXM or any pseudoephedrine. And in certain states, you cannot buy more than x-amount of pseudoephedrine per month without a red flag going off^+. The other products, yes; but the sale of cough/cold medicine is typically watched closely just for this reason (and so that meth-heads can't buy tons of the stuff at a time). And I feel like if a ten-year-old went into NAPA and bought a bunch of ether (or even spray paint, for that matter), some questions would be asked.

^+ Edit: I was curious so I did a little research. Turns out pseudoephedrine is strictly regulated by the FDA and must be sold 'behind-the-counter' always (except for those tiny little 2-tablet pouches they sell at gas stations). Sales must also be recorded to prevent someone from buying tons of the stuff at a time. AFAIK, DXM is largely unregulated
, though most of the popular stores (Safeway, Walgreens, Kroger), from my experience, require ID for any sort of cough/cold medicine purchase, regardless of its drug content.

*Edit2: But you can buy DXM off of fucking Amazon. So, yea, I feel your point still stands.

26 with Gout, started when i was 23.

I'm no fuckup, but drink heavily every weekend (and weeknights too throughout college).

To be honest, whenever I start feeling ANY discomfort, i immediately pop an anti-inflammatory. Keeps the extreme pain at bay.
I just try and carry around a couple Aleve/Naproxen pills whereever I go. For example, I now know if i feel symptoms (stiffness, discomfort, lack of mobility in my toes) and I'm at a restaurant, it always pays to excuse yourself, find the nearest drugstore and buy some medication. The sooner, the better. I've had to call in sick with some strange excuse over the past couple years when I ignored the initial symptoms to "deal with it in the morning." Now i carry a tiny little pill holder

I try and avoid stout beer, although stout is my favourite. Dude, the only thing young guys can do is preventative maintenance.

There's not a chance in hell I'm going to be vegetarian. There's a 0% chance I'm not gonna go out for drinks with friends. But for me, the sooner I take an anti-inflammatory, the better. I know that the pain will subside if i pop right away. The longer I wait to take it, the exponentially worse it gets the morning after…

Just two months ago I didn't take my own advice, and felt an imminent flare-up around 6pm when i was on my way to a dinner party. Didn't take a 'flammy until I got home around 1am. Horrible fucking mistake.
Gout lasted for a whole fucking week and couldn't walk without hopping on one foot for 4 days. I got my grandpa to FedEx me his Colchicine (he's 92 and had gout, but hasn't had a flare up in 20+ years because he swears by Colchicine).

Apple Cider vinegar, as recommended by these fine Gouty people, seems to help. Although I always drink the Apple cider vinegar in conjunction with the 'flammys. Take a couple swigs before bed and in the morning, can't hurt.

TL;DR Carry an anti-inflammatory with you, pop 'em as soon as you can. A keychain pill holder like this is an easy way to be safe

Also check out the Relief Band - it’s the only FDA approved treatment for nausea that Stop nausea after it starts and with zero drowsiness.

u/qpgmr · 2 pointsr/Cruise

Instead of going to drugs which will make you feel dopey, there's an alternative: the "ReliefBand" was recommended to us by a forester that had to go on helicopter surveys on constantly (surveying requires hovering, moving around an object, ascending/descending in place - anyone slightly prone to motion sickness vomits, even the pilots occassionally). https://www.amazon.com/Reliefband-1-5-Motion-Morning-Sickness/dp/B00PG4NUOS

It electrically stimulates the vagus nerve, supressing nausea. It works so well you can get it paid for with a prescription if you're on cancer chemo therapy.

Since getting it my SO (who has been know to lose it on car rides) has never became ill on over a dozen cruises, including a 15 day SF to Hawaii RT winter cruise. We got one for a friend who is much more sensitive and she had no problems, even on a very rough crossing of the sea of cortez.

u/SparkitusRex · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

Congrats! I'm not in quite the same position, but my husband travels a lot for work (in the busy season, he's out of town 3 to 4 days every other week).

The hardest part for me was morning sickness. Sometimes the dumbest things got to me. My dachshund has a distinct "hound" smell to her, if it's been more than a week since she got a bath. That would set it off. Dishes. Cleaning toilets. Stuff like that. My best suggestion if you have really bad morning sickness is those puke bags they offer in hospitals, you can buy them on Amazon.

I remember when my dog had the poops in his crate while I was at work. I was dry heaving in the back yard at 1am literally sobbing "I can't do this." But my husband was out of town for several days, and I had to do it. And you know what? I did. And I survived.

It was rough sometimes, but we got through it. I'm in my third trimester now and he is still traveling for work, that's not gonna change. But we powered through the rough feelings.

I know what you mean about feeling alone. But you're never really alone, between your mom and your friend and the wonderful people on Reddit. And if you ever need someone to talk to, you can always talk to me about it, if you'd like.

You can do this, you're strong!

I'm not sure which one you saw. The couple I have just plug in and one has a temperature control knob on it. It doesn't give you a read-out of the actual temperature so I use a temperature gun to check the temperature when setting it up. You also don't have to limit yourself to reptile pads, basic heating pads without auto-shutoff will work. Something like this. I would probably search online until you can figure out what temperature ranges it will get to before you buy.

Similar to that design, just got my cat this one and it's really nice. Prior to the bed, he would lie on this heating pad.

I'm trying to combine the two right now. The cat cave has a thick, plushy cushion so the pad doesn't work under it, and the pad's kind of stiff so no good on top of it. I used safety pins to secure the heating pad cover across the inside top of it, which seems to be working well. It's like a cozy low-temp oven inside!

and you just let it sit? thats good news for me. i started off thinking you needed to heat it to decarb it, but that's not true. as i thought more about the commercial stuff, i thought they didnt heat it past 140F. i tried heating to 120F for 2 hours and it didnt really mix. i'm glad to hear that at a low temperature, over a long period, it does mix.

how did you keep it at 90F for that long? it would be really sweet if we came up with a method like

  • place the shatter and PEG-400 into a silicone BHO container and set that in an electric blanket set on low for 24 hours. that would be a great stealth way to get it to mix. but i know those bho containers are not odor proof. so i guess we'd also have to bag it a few times or put in one mason jar at least to try and capture all the odor.

man, i really want to get an electric blanket and a temp probe that records. hook it up for a few days and see what temp it sits at.

side thought here, i think you could do the following:

  • take bubblehash and dissolve it into PEG-400
  • put solution through syringe filter to remove the solids

actually, you could just do that just starting off with regular weed. only thing though is you might want to a rough filtering before the syringe filtering. you wouldn't need to do winterizing. those extra plant waxes wont be optimal, but i think it would just make your final concoction just a little less potent.

If you have UTI issues or sign of infection I would 100% recommend taking D-Mannose , a supplement that takes the bacteria in your bladder/urinary tract and flushes it out the next time you pee. It CHANGED MY LIFE. I’ve had lifelong chronic UTIs (since before I was sexually active) and this is legitimately the only thing I’ve ever taken that has helped (that’s not antibiotics). Just take a couple before bed for a few days and see if it helps! I only take it now if I feel burning when I urinate and it immediately clears it up. Good luck:)

u/Mormolyke · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

I get the Now Foods capsules, but they really just contain the powder, so either form is fine. You can get it at any Vitamin Shoppe or on Amazon as linked. It seriously changed my life. I think it's awful that it's not more well known as a treatment, and that every sexually active woman doesn't have some D-Mannose in her house! For me, it was the only thing I needed to do -- and believe me, I tried everything before I stumbled across it.

From wikipedia: "
Mannose, packaged as the nutritional supplement "d-mannose", is a sugar monomer of the aldohexose series of carbohydrates. Mannose is a C-2 epimer of glucose. Mannose is important in human metabolism, especially in the glycosylation of certain proteins."

Basically, you can take it in either capsule form, or powder form. While it's technically a sugar, it does wonders in the urinary tract/bladder. If I recall correctly, they think that it prevents the bacteria from grabbing on to the bladder lining, so you're able to finally get rid of it. Something like that.

It worked so much better than cranberry, for me. Apparently d-mannose is the active ingredient in cranberry juice? So, why not just take it straight, instead?

I don't usually link Mercola as I think he's pretty quacky, but all of this sounds right.

Zzzquil is just diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in Benadryl. You're better off buying a store brand 'Allergy Relief' medicine with bright pink labels. It'll be $5 for 100 25 mg. tablets, vs. $10 for a small bottle or box with far fewer doses.
The internet's best deal is Amazon's! $9.35 for 600 pills. That's a few years worth, for sure.
Can you buy the store brand's sleep medicine that's also diphenhydramine? Of course! But it's usually more expensive, and has a blue label.
Note: The hot pink labels really do seem to be universal in the U.S., you can walk into any drug or grocery store like Target, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Safeway, Giant, Costco, Food Lion, Vons, and the 'Allergy Relief' pills will have a hot pink label.

Seriously though, there's no reason to take Tylenol PM unless you have a cold w/fever and can't sleep.

As everyone else said - time for the doctor or nurse to take a look.

In the interim, Aveeno makes an oatmeal bath thing that's really good and safe for babies. And, California Baby has some good calendula lotion that is very soothing.

My daughter had eczema and also terrible reactions to mosquitos when she was little. We used both those items on a regular basis - I got them at Target.

u/smithmcmagnum · 1 pointr/Psoriasis

I have found that doing a full body soak in Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment has done wonders for my face.

About 8 bucks at Target, comes in a box, dissolve the packets in the bath and soak.

My doctor recommended it to me after 6+ months of using steroid creams. Wish I'd heard about it sooner, tbh.

u/parmesann · 1 pointr/DiWHY

oatmeal baths are great for sensitive skin! I have eczema and have used these (alongside other things) since I was a little kid.

BUT, this is not the way I’d go about it. you can buy treatments with oatmeal that are meant to be used in the bath so you get the most out of it and minimise mess (Aveeno makes a really good one!!). straight oatmeal infusion is fine, but every dermatologist I’ve ever had has recommended sticking to real bath treatments.

u/quelle_crevecoeur · 1 pointr/pregnant

I have been itching so much during the 3rd trimester! I scratched my legs hard enough that my thighs were bruising. They checked my liver and bile via blood work twice, and there were no issues. Definitely bring it up at your appointment but it also just happens! I also recommend warm oatmeal baths and Eucerin cream and constantly reminding yourself that it won’t last forever 😂

u/tiffownsthis · 1 pointr/eczema

I have a similar problem and my husband has been very supportive. If he sees me scratching he will take my hands and hold them. He also draws oatmeals baths for me and sits with me while I soak.

I've used a lot of products over the years that did not help with my itching but I will recommend these two as excellent and worth a try:

Aveeno Bath Oatmeal

Goldbond Eczema Relief Lotion

The Goldbond is the best eczema lotion I have ever used and does not have steroid in it.

Make sure she sees a doctor as soon as she can to find out her triggers and eliminate them from her environment. Mine turned out to be animal dander, cleaning chemicals, and perfumes/fragrances in soaps. It required quite a lifestyle change but now I only have rate flare ups that I can usually nip in the bus by not scratching. Good luck.

Get some lactase enzyme pills (lactase is the enzyme to break down the milk sugars that your body no longer produces) and start eating some dairy again. They work great.

If that's the case, you may as well add Lactase to your wishlist as well.

u/Llamatoe212 · 1 pointr/Health

I really hope somebody can shed some insight into this. Neti pot's are good , but you can buy machines that are much more effective for about 100 dollars.

http://www.amazon.com/SinuPulse-Elite-Advanced-Irrigation-System/dp/B001CWT4JI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1323057690&sr=8-2

Definitely check that out. Also here is a really weird trick but I promise you that it works. Take a deep breath and hold it. Close your mouth, plug your nose and take thirty steps in any direction. After you finish the thirty steps, Sit down and sit erectly. Your nose will be clear.

u/Crrttopgal · 1 pointr/Asthma

My pulmonologist recommended a nasal irrigation system after my asthma flared up due to post nasal drip and sinusitis. I've used it 3 times so far and for the first time in months I can breathe out of both nostrils. I've heard it can be good as a daily cleaner to get pollen out of your nose. This is the one I bought.

u/kylev · 1 pointr/skeptic

Actually, Science Based Medicine covered nasal irrigation recently. The concept of rinsing your nose with saline is sound, and has some evidence of benefit behind it. However, buying an expensive tool or pricey saline from a magical source in France is a bit silly. You can make it at home with pickling salt (non-iodized), clean containers, and filtered water.

As an anecdote: I've done this myself using a $3 sqeeze bottle and it feels good. My old roommate, prone to sinus infections, invested in a more expensive pump system that he uses daily; he hasn't gotten a bad enough sinus infection to require a doctor visit since he started (which used to be an annual thing for him).

In my thinking, a saline flush can help get particulate matter out of your nose faster in roughly he same way that a doctor would use sterile saline to get dirt out of a wound. It won't help with viral inflammation or other types of issues.

u/Tattooedvixen · 1 pointr/RandomActsofMakeup

This is totally worth it. I had to get one after my surgery ( but I use it at least 1-2x a week & no salt water in my throat) its a Neti pressure washer! I had sticker shock for sure, but I've saved so much money on decongestants, antibiotics, (lady medication from the antibiotics) If you get them more than 1-2x a year, go for it. Also you can use an FSA if you have one.

Also drop a mint tea bag in a pot of low boiling water and put a hand towel over your head & breathe in to get some of the congestion broken up. I hope you get feeling better. Sinus infections are horrible.

Does he have to ride a bike? I know it can be faster than bussing it, but if public transport is an option, then he might consider taking it if the sweat situation is bad enough.

Have him shave is pits and use a good, strong deodorant.

In the morning have him or help him powder his torso with gold bond powder. It's absolutely wonderful for helping with sweat and body odor.

I know it's getting to be colder now, but still have him see about wearing clothes that allow his skin to breath. Wearing clothes that are TOO restrictive will make sweating and smelling worse.

If he's eating smelly stuff in the morning, have him stop and maybe switch him to a protein bar or something, or at least eat less pungent stuff.

What works for me is if you are going to bet at 6 or 7 or 8 am, just try to stay awake through that entire day. If you can't do that, then take a nap. Go to sleep at like 11 AM, create an alarm that will wake you 2-3 hours later. Then just stay awake until 9pm by playing a high energy game like counter strike or something. Then take one of these at around 9 PM that night and you should be set.

u/alcapwned · 1 pointr/YouShouldKnow

This is one of those things that, once you realize it, you wonder how brand names can get away with charging so much. Either advertising or brand trust I guess.

I bought a bottle of 1000 50 mg diphenhydramine HCl capsules some time ago from amazon. It cost me $0.40/gram. A three pack of 25 mg benadryl (also diphenhydramine HCl) with 24 pills in each pack costs $10.54/gram. That's 26x more expensive. And there are a lot of other OTC drugs out there with similar discrepancies.

u/retrace · 1 pointr/trees

Oh, wow. I've never seen generic sleep gels for that cheap. That's about the same that I have paid for generic Benadryl (~$4 for 100 25-mg capsules or tablets, although you can get it cheaper online).

u/lizthewhiz · 1 pointr/Guitar

I had pain in my wrists when I started out. It's gone now but this is what I did to fix it:

  • took two weeks off playing
  • slept with wrist braces to keep my wrists in a neutral position all night. This maximizes circulation and promotes healing. I still sleep with these.
  • stretch for 5 mins before every practice session
  • applied Penetrex anti-inflammatory cream after a long practice session.
  • practiced in front of a mirror to make sure my posture was good and there were no awkward angles in my wrists
  • switched to classical position and got a nice adjustable foot stool.

That pretty much cleared it up, but I didn't have any serious pain or anything. Just the early onset of something nasty. Definitely take care of it now before it gets bad.

In addition to that, I would recommend taking excess vitamin D for a week or so.

I have used Durham Farm's for years seriously could not live without it. It works for "dry socket" as well. Pain gone for either ailment in 30 seconds and is a natural antibiotic. Read the reviews.

  1. Buy SLS free (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)toothpaste like from Tom's or Rembrandt. SLS has been shown in several studies to increase the frequency of canker sores.

  2. Make sure you are getting enough B12, Folate, and Iron. Given your age and sex, you are recommended to be on a folate supplement anyhow.

  3. Avoid acidic foods/drink like OJ.

u/FlipMineArseDad · 1 pointr/dxm

You look new to the sub so I'll assume this is an actual question. Let me explain. The only drug that you're looking for here is DXM Hbr/polistirex. Any other active ingredients that are going to be paired with it are NOT going to get you high and they will always have negative side effects that can really ruin your trip. This particular product also has Guaifenesin in it, which when taken in high enough doses to get a trip from the DXM will absolutely wreck your stomach. You'll be lucky if it doesn't come out of both holes. And I've heard it also causes kidney stones. Just stay away from anything that has any other active ingredients.

Try Robotussin cough gels or Robocough(if you live in the US.) These are both Hbr products.

If you're looking for polistirex try delsym 12 hour

The difference between poli and Hbr is that Hbr is not timed release, which means it's all absorbed ASAP which means strong high. Poli is timed release, which means you get about half of it at ingestion time, and half about 4 hours later. Rule of thumb for poli is "half as strong, twice as long." If you have more questions lmk

u/pick_me_apart · 1 pointr/dxm

Look for these in a store, or you can buy straight from Amazon.

Usually the medicines (both syrups and gels) in a green box having guaif and the ones in a blue box don't.

You might need to check a few stores. CVS is usually pretty good about stocking them.

u/juzzztcurious · 1 pointr/dxm

CVS has generic brand gel caps , 300 mg in total for around $5

Most grocery stores (Vons, Albertsons, etc.) also have a "signature brand" bottle of syrup with around 354 mg in them, for also around $5-6

Delsym ( my personal favorite, but it's DXM polystirex which is the extended release form, not DXM hbr which is what most people are looking for) and other extended release offbrands also only have DXM polystirex as their only main ingredient. it's pricier though.

also here's some gel caps on amazon https://www.amazon.com/Robitussin-Lingering-CoughGels-Long-Acting-Suppressant/dp/B005E74U3W/ref=pd_sim_121_4?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=5C0JW0VPCP5HFQ8PAXBQ&th=1

Here is what I take, I would certainly recommend them, and if it's your first time you must do an allergy test! This involves taking a small dose beforehand to make sure you don't have a rare dangerous enzyme deficiency. There is a thing called a Finger Toothbrush, they make them for babies and for pets. Lots of different sizes and bristle arrangements, I don't have a specific one to recommend. The tiniest one I found is actually an antique in a museum, but look around.

I also found this: Scope Outlast mini brush.
And a similar product from Colgate.

To make whatever you find keychain friendly, look for pill boxes or toothpick holders or "stash" holders (no link!!) that are keychains. You'll have to figure out what size each thing is and whether your brushy things will fit, but you should be able to find something that will work. You could put a shot of mouthwash into one of these cases.

I found all these when I was looking for a keychain container to hold a USB-C to micro-USB adapter that is 2.5x1.0x0.5cm, so if you see something that would work for that as you are searching, let me know :-)

Okay. I'm here for this.

I've tried everything for this because I always suffer from motion sickness but I enjoy doing things involving motion-- planes, boats, cars, etc.

Ginger can work, so try drinking some ginger ale and, if you're a fan of ginger, carry some ginger candy with you on the plane. Dramamine often works for me and that's an easy go-to, just make sure you take it 30 minutes before the plane takes off and prepare to get sleepy. Some people swear by the pressure wristbands but they never worked for me. I even tried an electronic relief band that's supposed to interrupt the signal your stomach sends to your brain telling you to feel sick, but it's uncomfortable, made my hand spasm, and ultimately gave me blisters. The most effective treatment for me BY FAR has been the transdermal scopolamine patch. It's a time-release patch you wear on your neck behind your ear and it's good for three days. It's AMAZING-- it's all I use now. Almost no side effects-- no drowsiness at all-- but make sure you wash your hands after applying it because if you get the medication from the patch in your eye it'll temporarily dilate your pupil. It's a prescription, too, so you'd need to get your GP to prescribe it, but it's definitely worth the hassle. I recently took a cruise from Buenos Aires to Elephant Bay, Antarctica through notoriously bad seas-- not to mention all the flying to get to SA in the first place-- and the patches made the entire experience a DELIGHT.

Best of luck to you!

Combating simulator sickness by utf8decodeerror

I've posted this in r/oculus already, but I'm copying here to get viver's take on it as well.

***

I'm reaching out here to see what products/solutions other redditors use to combat simulator sickness.

I've had bad motion sickness ever since I was a kid. A twenty minute car ride used to have me in tears, often vomiting as a child. As I got older, my motion sickness has gone away for the most part but I've recently been reexperiencing it when I use my HMD.

To combat motion sickness, I've been using dramamine which has worked perfectly at eliminating motion sickness. However, I don't care for the drowsiness it often brings. I'm also not keen on the idea of taking drugs every time I strap into vr.

Some of my favorite vr games make me the most sick, like To the Top, Onward, Edge of Nowhere, etc. Even if I don't have qualms with self medicating with dramamine and putting up with the side effects, I would like to be able to share these experiences with my friends without having to give them dramamine as well. Most are hesitant to use it to begin with, and if they don't take up my offer on it, their first experience can be entirely ruined by motion sickness.

I recently ran across this product on Amazon which has a lot of very good reviews for combating motion sickness. If it does work, it would also allow me to share vr experiences with friends without feeling guilty about making them take drugs or dealing with being sick. I'll probably pick one up because if it works, it's worth the $100 to me and if it doesn't, I can just return it.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried this or a similar product that worked for them or if you have some other technique that has helped you.

I started using Canker Rid last month after I had two big cankers that last a week and half. I ordered it at the last stage of the healing because I was sick and tired of them getting painful and lasting so long. Luckily a few days later I felt the beginning of another canker! I followed the directions of drying then applying the stuff on my canker and it went away after two days. It didn't even get to the painful stage or get any bigger then the first day I found it! I highly recommend this stuff.

NAH - pregnancy is hard for everyone involved. I spent many nights sleeping in on the edge of our full sized bed during our first pregnancy, but it didn't adversely effect my sleep so it's not fair to judge. If you can't sleep like that then it's perfectly fine to sleep on the couch, but you should still cuddle and spend time with your partner.
The vomiting is another issue. She's past her first trimester, so it should be getting better, but there are some things you can do to help prevent it. B-6 and doxylamine work for my wife. Also, they make bags that are easier to throw up in and can be kept in convenient locations. 50 Pack Emesis Bag, Disposable Vomit Bags, Aircraft & Car Sickness Bag, Nausea Bags for Travel Motion Sickness https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075M3RKK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jm-MDbBE02SF5

EAH. She’s pregnant and you’re getting butt hurt that she doesn’t give you enough room in the bed. She found a pillow that makes her comfortable enough to sleep- that’s awesome, a lot of pregnant women are unable to. I’m sure you two can find a temporary solution where you both can sleep during pregnancy. You sleeping on the couch doesn’t have to be reactive to a fight- it can just be that you both are honoring that sleep is important for both of you. As far as her puking goes, she should of figured out a way to not vomit everywhere by now. I know it’s tricky with pregnancy bc it’s uncertain when the continuous nausea will actually lead to vomiting, it can escalate so fast. I recommend getting emesis bags- you put them right up to your mouth, so she can’t miss, and you can leave them all over the house, so she really can’t miss.
