Here's what I would suggest:

Razor: either this one if you want to stay frugal or this one if you want to splurge a bit. I'd stay away from the QShave. It's a clone of a razor with a lot of design issues. One being that the head is so large it's hard to get under the nose, etc.; another issue is that it is extremely aggressive even at its lowest setting.

Brush: This synthetic brush. I think it's much better to start with a synthetic than a boar brush. Boar brushes are less comfortable on your face and actually make it more difficult to make lather until they break in. No reason to mess with those variables when you're just trying to get the hang of it. As for this specific synthetic brush, I have one and it is an amazing value for the money. It is one of about a dozen brushes I own, some of which were $200+, and this $12 brush holds its own with them.

Shaving soap: Lots of options here. Barrister & Mann's Latha line performs extremely well and is a great value. Several scents to choose from. Barrister &
Mann's Glissant line is a bit more expensive but has even better performance and more complex scents. Seville is a particularly good starting point with B&M, just an extremely clean, classic, masculine scent. Pre de Provence and Pre de Provence No. 63 are classic french soaps that smell great and perform very well.

Aftershave: Even more options here. You could go with Thayer's witch hazel with aloe, or if you want a traditional high alcohol aftershave, Fine Accoutrements is excellent. There are several scents, all based on popular and/or classic colognes. Or you could splurge and get the world's greatest aftershave product, L'Occitane Cade After Shave Balm.

Blades: Amazon has some good deals on blades in bulk but just sucks for sampler packs, and you want to start with a sampler pack because reasons. So head on over to TryABlade and order two of the "Top 10 Sampler." You can't use your Amazon credit there, but it's going to come to less than $10 including shipping.

So, if you go with the cheapest option in each category, you come out to fifty dollars or so if I'm adding right, which leaves you room to pick out one or more of those splurge options I mentioned.

My $.02 (For ease of use everything is linked to Amazon, prices will vary)

Razor: Merkur 180, $32

Brush: Escali 100% Pure Badger, $14

Shaving Cream: Proraso, $11

Blades: Sampler Pack, $20

And then that leaves ~$20 to play with to buy a a nice book on shaving, or a shaving stand, or some aftershave

u/nobodysawme · 9 pointsr/Wetshaving

u/amanforallsaisons did a fine job. However, you're asking about amazon and looking for a budget deal.

The Dorco PL-602 is the most-affordable good DE razor.

The Body Shop synthetic brush is a plisson-type synthetic. I don't have one, but I know people who do. It looks good, and should be soft-tipped, and easy to use.

EDIT: let's go with one I do have: razorock plissoft

Soaps are a littler harder - do you like fruity scents or non-fruity scents? There are shaving soaps on Amazon (Razorock and WSP) but not in sampler form. You won't go wrong with soaps from either Razorock or WSP.

A blade bank I picked this as the add-on item rather than Prime, because it's cheaper and you'll have enough to make the add-on order work if you use your cart instead of 1-click buying.

Get a sampler pack of blades. I prefer tryablade.com for samplers, but if you wish to do amazon, this isn't all bad. The normal problem with a sampler on amazon is that you're getting blades from the same factory, so you aren't really getting a chance to sample well. Here, they're at least well-regarded blades, so it's not terrible.

Alum - if you hold alum to your face where you nick yourself, it will stop the bleeding.

Witch Hazel. A lot of people like Thayer's. You can use any witch hazel you like as an aftershave - I put this one here because I'm tempted to get it myself. lemon Thayer's witch hazel

Balm. Not strictly necessary, but if you find yourself burning, it won't hurt to have on hand. nivea post shave balm

Honestly? If you use shave oil, like Shave Secret (walmart), you don't need the brush or shave soap. Savings can be had if you're incredibly price sensitive. But many people prefer the brush and lather method.

Shave bowl. I use a collapsible bowl which is convenient for bowl lathering when I travel.

u/ZeronZ · 8 pointsr/asktransgender

Exfoliate first, use tend skin after, and always moisturize once you are all done.

Double Edge Safety Razor Blade Variety Pack - 22 diffrent Blades Every face is different so what is a great blade for one person may be the worst for another

Edwin Jagger De89L Razor is the razor i started with it is balanced and has a good weight to it, it also is a medium aggressive shave

Bloc Osma Natura Alum Block is an antiseptic and analgesia, It will stop weepers and reduce pimples and chance of infection. Wet it and rub it over the shaved area after you finish.

Ogallala Bay Rum Bonanza Sampler is a great aftershave that soothes and moistens it also reduces how oily my face feels after washing and shaving

The Merkur's have poor QC, the new slant I got from them has some molding marks left on it and there have been reports of the chrome flaking off of them. The tweezerman has the same issues with QC and there have been may reports of the hairs falling out as well as the whole brush. You really need to get a sampler as the feathers may not work for your face right away.

u/Joey_Bellows · 6 pointsr/wicked_edge

Make sure your Futur is set to 1 then work your way up. I recommend this pack it has a lot of blade brands to try. Get MRGLO it is a fantastic pre-shave soap, slicks up your face and smells really good, it's the one I use. Aftershave I have Ogalla Bay Rum sampler, I like it and it's a sampler so there are a few scents to try out. Also Geo F. Trumpers Skin Food, I have heard very good things about it although I have not personally tried it.

u/Erisann · 5 pointsr/wicked_edge

It is definitely ingrown hairs. I see this most often after waxing if I don't care for my skin 'properly' afterwards. They offer toners and other topical solutions at spas for it, but it's basically just isopropyl alcohol and salicylic acid like this. An alcohol-based toner should work just as well. Additionally, I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub once per day in a circular motion to help coax the hairs out. Also, always moisturize after stripping the natural moisture from your skin!! Drying it out will only make it worse.

u/justateburrito · 4 pointsr/wicked_edge

Fine Aftershaves are now sold on Amazon. Seems like the perfect addition to your lineup.

u/Goyu · 4 pointsr/wicked_edge

I think that you would be better off with a double edge. It's less technically demanding to learn, you don't have to maintain the blade (you'll have to sharpen a straight edge from time to time and strop it daily) because it's disposable.

My philosophy is that shaving is less about the hair and more about the skin, caring for it and leaving it comfortable/not irritated. Even with a light beard, it's worth learning how to shave well because it's good for the skin and it's a pleasant and meditative ritual. The whole process of carefully prepping the skin, applying the soap/cream and doing a multiple pass shave is satisfying. Like a very masculine manicure, manly pampering. Mampering? No...

Anyway, if you click around this sub a bit, you'll notice that it's easy to go overboard and get too into it, and shave gear isn't cheap. But that's as much a blessing as a curse. I have three straight razors and a double edge, and I fully expect them to last me decades.

If I were you, I wouldn't jump in the pool quite that deep though. Here are the suggestions I make to most shave newbies interested in checking out the wetshaving gig:

Edwin Jagger DE 89:https://www.amazon.com/Edwin-Jagger-Kelvin-Double-Safety/dp/B00K6Z24SK/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469558129&sr=8-4&keywords=edwin+jagger+de

This is a simple, entry level razor. It comes with a few blades, but I'd recommend buying a sampler pack (and yes, I picked this pack because it has Feather blades, they are exceptional, if slightly too sharp for me. I use Sharks.):

https://www.amazon.com/FEATHER-Oclock-SILVER-Blade-Sampler/dp/B004UIZFQW/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469558238&sr=8-4&keywords=double+edge+sampler+pack

After that you'll need a brush. I'd just check the sidebar there, I use a wee scot and I suspect that not many would push you in that direction.

Then you'll want a nick stick, because dude... you'll cut yourself. It happens. Again, sidebar. But here's the cheap one that I use (don't cut myself much anymore so I don't invest in the good stuff these days):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013H6AVM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And beyond that is the decision between soaps and cream and an aftershave. That one is up to personal preference in terms of scents and consistency.

I use this cream and like it fine: https://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Old-Bond-Street-Sandalwood/dp/B0007MW2ZW/ref=pd_cart_rp_1_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=519dkWyoBqL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_SL500_SR100%2C99_&psc=1&refRID=FTVMYYYARCCYAX4AK72N

I use this aftershave and love it to pieces, enough to spend 50 fucking dollars on it a few times a year: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007XMDQO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This isn't a super cheap set up (about $200) but you could get a cheaper aftershave and brush and be all set for under $100 and make improvements down the line if you decide you want to keep doing this.

u/Kravego · 4 pointsr/AirForce

Dude. Wet shave.

  • Get yourself a safety razor. Merkur is the brand that everyone recommends and honestly I have nothing but good things to say about them. $40

  • Next, get some blades. Feather is the sharpest fucking blade on the planet. I'll probably get gripes about telling you to get this one first, because you can really do some damage with these. But they're really the best damn blades on the market. Cuts through a 2-week leave beard like fucking butter. This pack is ~$25 and will last you a year or more.

  • Last, get yourself some product to put on your face:

  • Cream from C.O. Bigelow. Eucalyptus feels nice as fuck.

  • Aftershave. I don't know if the caffeine effect is legit or just placebo, but I feel like I wake up better with it.

  • Alum Block The purpose of the alum block is to close pores and stop small cuts from bleeding. Stings like a bitch at times but works.

All of this costs you $85 in total upfront, but you'll only need to buy shaving cream and aftershave from then on out. The blades will last you a year and the razor a lifetime. I don't know how long it takes to run out of alum in that block, but I've been using the same one for 5 years and I can't see a difference in size.
u/leSpacePotato · 3 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Personally...

  1. Warm water shower/bath beforehand, leave shaving for last

  2. Choose your shave cream/lotion wisely... and always test it on another body part first
    >My personal recommendation: Shea Moisture Utility Bar ... silly name, marketed for men, but seriously the best thing I've found yet!
    >2nd option... I've also found that combining Eos shave cream with Nivea in-shower moisturizer works really well 👌🤷‍♀️

  3. Use a new razor EVERY TIME.

  4. Use some sort of soothing lotion specifically for shaving afterward, but beware menthol! that shit burns like a mofo 😭
    >Personal recommendation: Nivea Sensitive Skin Post-Shave Balm

  5. Still struggling?
Talk to your doctor &/or dermatologist.
They have things they might be able to give you that can make a difference, especially if you have sensitive skin or a previously unnoticed skin condition.
    >I've wound up seeing them twice about it- once as a teen, and now again in my mid-20s)

    ----------------------

    REMEMBER: use your best judgement!

I'm just someone on the internet whose skin struggles with shaving, so I've experimented quite a bit. Even with all this I can't shave often... 😓

I swear by this stuff

u/Giraffe_Racer · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

Lucky Tiger aftershave has a nice citrus scent that doesn't smell like old man.

u/polypeptide147 · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

Shaving is not good for your skin, so some good aftershave will help to moisturize and restore it. I use nivea sensitive post shave balm that I get from a store near me for about $5 or $6. Target and Wegmans carry it, if you have those near you. Give it a try some time. It'll make your skin feel great!

u/I_Like_a_Clean_Bowl · 3 pointsr/Wetshaving

> I'm not sure if I should go with a balm or a tonic.

Both. Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Tonic (its alcohol free) is excellent and surprisingly inexpensive. For a balm that is really excellent and all you may ever want try Oil of Olay Complete which is both inexpensive and very kind to the skin, particularly in the winter.

Congratulations on your first wet shave!:-)

u/CheeseFighter · 3 pointsr/bald

Hot water dries out your skin, and especially after shaving and showering you should try to re-moisturize your skin.

Thats why i use a After-Shave-Balm like this one that combines sterilization and hydration.

For me it works wonders in preventing nearly everything from dry scalp to red skin irritation and pimples, so I hope this helps you, too.

I've said this on one of these threads before, but I had this issue when I was younger, but my solution is: intuition razor with anti-bacterial shower gel and then immediately after I shave I use this: MiN New York Solution http://amzn.com/B000ZPSNW2

I can't shave everyday but I can trim a very good deal like once a week.

u/NutmeggerBarber · 2 pointsr/Watches

I would still recommend the bowl and brush because the whole point of shaving cream is to exfoliate the follicles, make the hairs stand up, and help the razor glide across the skin.

Having ancestors from the British isles I'm gonna say that you are experiencing overly sensitive skin. There are remedies that can help you fight this back and techniques you can use to limit your breakouts. Never shave against the grain. I know the feeling of having a super soft shave is ideal but your skin just won't be able to take it. Always go with the grain. Watch YouTube videos on proper shaving strokes, there are tons. Now you should be using a liberal amount of after shave. The brand doesn't matter just find a scent you enjoy. There are other post shave balms that you might want to try out too. I personally use this one and use it on a few of my clients as well. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Q2MYU1U/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_a_it?qid=1458391335&sr=8-2&keywords=post+shave+balm&pi=SY200_QL40. It leaves a mask like feeling on the skin for an extra layer of protection.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

u/rxmxsh · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

Currently using this

Before that I was using Nivea balm, sensitive skin. That didn't seem to help at all.

u/boostdd · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

I started DE shaving a couple weeks ago and I recently picked up:

u/2CentsMaybeLess · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

Post shave skin care.

If you knick yourself, a styptic like My Nik Is Sealed is nice. The ones with the roller ball is cleaner to apply than the chalky crayon type.

When done shaving, apply a witchhazel, a shave balm, and then if you like, an aftershave. With Proraso, I like the following. These are also popular "standard" products.

Thayer's Medicated with Aloe Vera . Witch Hazel without a scent doesn't smell good. Thayer's brand does pleasant scents. This one has alcohol, and they also make without, but I recommend try with first.

Nivea Post Shave Balm. This is also often available in regular stores, like Walmart.

Clubman Osage Rub After Shave. This menthol scent after shave isn't so much a standard, but IMO the way it numbs your face it is a must have. Refreshing in the hot summer.

u/t0nmontana · 2 pointsr/Tiki

I keep it simple and go with a classic bay rum scent. This stuff from amazon is great and cheap!
Bay Rum

u/puddle_stomper · 2 pointsr/gifs

Razor: I started with this Merkur razor (and I'm still using it after two years). Edwin Jagger is probably equally popular, but I haven't tried them.

Brush/bowl: I was given this bowl/soap/brush/holder kit as a gift and still use it, but the brush broke after about a year (I could probably fix it with some good glue but haven't bothered yet. The holder is nice, but you might be able to find just a brush and bowl separately slightly cheaper if you're on a budget. I didn't use the soap in the kit because:

Soap: Proraso soap was suggested and I ended up liking it a lot. Some people like to buy sampler packs of soap/cream as well, but this was good enough for me, and it would take me forever to get through samples. This Proraso got me through 15 months with an average of one shave per week.

Blades: I started out with a sampler pack of blades from Maggard Razors, and Gillette Silver Blue and Gillette 7 O'Clock (both yellow and green were the same to me) ended up being the easiest on my face. I tried Feather, but they were way too harsh at first, I think because I hadn't really gotten the technique down yet. Gillette was more forgiving, but once I got better at shaving, I was able to use Feathers.

Other: Lastly, I really like using an alum stick after shaving to help close up pores/tiny nicks (weepers), but they're not necessary. I also now use Shave Secret as a first layer when I start my second pass (against the grain). Again, not necessary, but I think it helps me personally a little to have that extra layer of protection to prevent razor burn. It does gunk up your razor a little, though, so just be sure to keep it clean.

--------------------------

I still only shave once a week, and I have a 3 day minimum in between shaves, otherwise I'll still get razor burn. Read up on some info in /r/wicked_edge. /u/Leisureguy has a ton of great comments in that sub. Sort his comment history by top, and you'll get plenty of good advice right off the bat. He also has a blog. My best tips: Make sure you use a shallow angle (as opposed to the perpendicular/90-degree shave you're used to with cartridge razors), and don't let your lather be too dry. Also, if your area has hard water, consider using distilled water to make your lather. Maggard Razors has been really great at shipping fast and having good prices for me and carries everything I mentioned, but there several reputable online shops. I know lots of people prefer to use Amazon, so I linked everything on Amazon except the blade sampler pack.

u/BTufts · 2 pointsr/askgaybros

I have the same issue. What has helped me is using a razor bump and ingrown hair treatment gel from Kerah Lane available on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZYYXEO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_MdyJ2LUvaaQkL
I applied it right after my morning shower and before bed for a couple days after shaving. It works wonders.
I also use an exfoliating scrub brush in the shower.

u/iamfish1 · 2 pointsr/swedishproblems

dom verkar bra, får bli en runda till apoteket imorgon...
Undrar om ett alum block, t.ex kan hjälpa, använt det tidigare mot raksår, men vet inte vart man kan köpa det nu för tiden?

u/frannnfries · 2 pointsr/sex

You should buy tend skin. Damp it with a cotton ball and rub all over after you shave. It help prevents ingrown hair! Works for me all the time when I get a Brazilian wax. For now you should exfoliate your skin wait for it to grow out a little and start getting wax and just use the tend skin. I linked it for you here. https://www.amazon.com/Tend-Skin-Care-Solution-Unisex/dp/B00011EXBA?tag=tendskin-20&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkqzHm_uc2QIVh15-Ch1iwQNoEAAYASAAEgLL8PD_BwE

Aftershave with Witchhazel.

I've been using this for a couple months now, along with a single edge safety and proper shave soap and brush. It's amazing stuff.

u/nixiegirl · 2 pointsr/MtF

This!!

I had the same experience as the OP a few years back but tried again ~3 months ago and it’s different this time, for a few reasons, I think:

  1. Exfoliation - I use an oatmeal body scrub before I shave and it really helps

  2. Repair - I too tried so many things and this helped more than anything I’d tried - I use it immediately after shaving/showering.

  3. Mosturizing with the right stuff. I tried a number of moisturizers but this one from Nivea really helps reduce ingrown hairs for me. I use it after the last stuff dries and every night/morning.

  4. Time & Persistence - it feels like it’s quicker/easier with fewer ingrown hairs now and that started after sticking with it for a few weeks. At first I was feeling like it was an impossible task but now it’s annoying but manageable.

  5. Laser for my back - I can’t reach so shaving would be hard.

  6. About a month ago, I purchased a home IPL system made by Braun, sold under the Gillette Venus brand. It’s too soon to tell if it will make a big impact but I think it’s thinning/slowing things a bit.

I've been struggling with bumps on my face for quite some time as well. You really have to get into the habit of exfoliating/washing your skin daily. I've been using this daily as a face scrub, especially days before I shave http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Razor-Defense-Scrub-Ounce/dp/B000NWBQ6M. Also experiment with different acne creams and masks to cover your face with. Your pores may be clogged from dirt (eating greasy food in general may also be a cause of your clogged pores). I started using Dollar Shave Club a while back and the shave butter paired with their after shave lotion has made my skin very smooth. In addition, try to use Bump Patrol immediately after you shave and I saw someone mention Bump Stopper....I use that as a topical right before I go to sleep every night. It's alot of work but you should see results in a few weeks if you stay dedicated

I am a daily morning shaver who had serious issues when i used cartridges. Switched to DE and found the right blades and now have virtually no issues. You didn't say wether you finished the shave off with splashing as cold of water as you can on your face. When it comes to those blades I have found out that none of those work for my face. Which gilette 7 o'clocks were you using? I Really like the ones in the black box but absolutely cannot stand the Russian made ones. I also realy like perma-sharp blades. Someone else said to make sure you get a realy good lather and that's huge. More then anything I would say to just continue trying different things until you find what works for you. I cannot use alum because it completely fucks my face up, and a lot of people are not proponents of my favorite blades. Definitely listen to the recommendations that people make on this sub, but remember that everyone's face is different and ultimately it is up to you to figure out what works for you. I haven't heard much about the aftershave I use on this sub but anything else has fucked my face up, so it might be worth a shot www.amazon.com/Pacific-Shaving-Company-PS08-Caffeinated/dp/B00K7I82YQ/ref=pd_sim_194_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41xjNt%2BxQfL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160SR160%2C160&refRID=06GEKDS95NYMSG5Y24ZB

You can try some anti-bump solution, the kind men usually use for their beards after getting a hair cut. This is the one I use and I've had no problems with it so far.

u/almightywhacko · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

Use a face scrub with salicylic acid in it to remove as much dead skin as possible. This will help reduce the likelihood that your freshly cut hairs will grow up under your skin. You'll want to do this daily, and on the opposite part of the day from when you shave. So if you shave in the morning, use the face scrub at night before you go to bed.

Follow each shave with a generous splash of witch hazel. This will help prevent/reduce red bumps and irritation. Let the witch hazel sit on your face for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water. Follow this up with a moisturizing balm, one with menthol or mint in it will help reduce irritation further. This will also act as a daily moisturizer to off-set the oils-stripping effects of the face scrub.

Pacific Shaving Company's Caffeinated Aftershave works really well for me and caffeine has been shown to restrict blood vessels when applied to the skin which may help to temporarily tighten the skin of your face which may also help prevent ingrown hairs.

Also pores do not open or close.
A cold towel may make your face feel a little better but if it isn't really helping feel free to skip it.

I would say there is a "floral" component but not super heavy. Amazon describes it as "Manly Flowery" and "Lightly scented with Rose Water". I would say that is an accurate description. The smell lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour. But someone would need to be pretty close to smell it.

If you have bad hormonal breakouts, I’d give DIM supplements a try. Honestly DIM supplements and pantothenic acid supplements have been a god send for me. (I had two periods a month from a stupid fibroid and the DIM has made my second period vanish)

I do shave my face. Or dermaplane. I use the folding twinkle razors. I do have about four face hairs that I do pluck out. I will use Vanicream cleanser as a “shave cream”. But I’ve never had ingrown hairs or razor burn from shaving. The only place I do get razor bumps is in my bikini area. There’s a bunch of products on amazon that help your problem. Just search “razor bumps”

Good luck!

Cucumber or rose witch hazel, or Speick. I have others, but I use those most often.

Thank you - I used to use that too. I keep forgetting to mention it. I found Neutrogena Men Razor Defense Post Shave Lotion decent as well.

I get ingrown hairs no matter what I try it seems. I've tried multiple types of waxing, I've tried cheap razors, I've tried safety razors and straight edge with different types of shaving soaps and creams, I've tried plug in epilators, I've tried nair and such. These all give me bumps.

As far as treatment and prevention I've tried exfoliating, washing more, washing less, this https://www.amazon.com/Kerah-Lane-Razor-Ingrown-Formula/dp/B00ZYYXEO6/ref=sr_1_7_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1525358840&sr=1-7&keywords=ingrown+hair+treatment, moisturizers, aftershave and serum.

No matter what I do, everytime I remove hair I get bumps in about 7 days.

What's the alum block you used in the video? I use this but the spherical shape of yours looks more ergonomic.

I had the same issue. Make sure you are shaving with the flow of your hair. Also don't shave the area with too many strokes. Jus started using this product called bump control and it works amazing well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003BOTB0C/ref=mp_s_a_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1510646233&sr=8-4&keywords=bump+patrol&dpPl=1&dpID=41fKYy0wJyL&ref=plSrch

I'm losing hope. I'm 32 years old and I've had acne my whole life, but this is much different than normal acne.

I've had two dermatologists wave my concerns away. Both only suggested hair removal, but that's very expensive. My skin is very sensitive and oily. I also have very thick curly hair. This hair also happens to bless my face and certain spots get horrible ingrown hairs. I know it's not really have acne, as each eruption won't heal until the offending hair is completely removed. There's usually lymph fluids as well as solid white materials when purged. As soon as the dark hair is removed, the eruption heals up. The skin around my mouth and chin is mostly effected, but my checks also get infected ingrown hairs.

I shave my face every day (I'm a woman and the hairs are very visible on my pale skin) with a sharp executive dollarshaveclub.com razor that sit in barbacide when not in use and a shaving oil designed to guard against ingrown hairs. I dip the razor into hot water in between strokes. I can't really shave with or against the grain as the hair grows in crazy directions. I change the razor blade weekly.

I tried using Head and Shoulders, thinking maybe it was a fungal thing, but that didn't really helped. These ingrown infections come on with no rhthym or reason, so I don't think it's hormonally related, also I have had several scans and tests that cleared me of PCOS. I've also used physical exfoliation, no luck. These ingrown hairs make me look terrible and have already seriously damaged my skin. After being turned away by the doctors, I found this sub and I'm hoping you guys can help. I've followed the basic skincare list and nothing works. I'm getting married in a few months and I really don't want to look like a pizza face. Please help!

Here's a list of everything I've tried recently:Kerah Lane Razor Bump & Ingrown Hair Formula

The Ordinary Peeling Solution 30ml AHA 30% + BHA 2% (this helped briefly, but the eruptions came roaring back after a week of clear skin and it hasn't helped since)

Glycolic Facial Cleanser

Retinol Serum 2.5% with Hyaluronic Acid

LilyAna Naturals Retinol Cream Moisturizer 1

Right now I'm just washing with Bronner's soap, using Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel and finishing with a Cevera lotion. It's also not helping, but I don't know if anything ever will.

old spice original is a classic manly strong scent. They make it in like the classic aftershave bottles, and also one that has a spray cap. They probably carry these at your local cvs or walgreens

After Shave. Good stuff, very subtle citrus scent.

I feel you on this one. My hair does not want to go down without a fight and or trying to punish me. I tried everything from the special razors they make for African American men, tend skin, bumpguard, any and everything post wax. The thing that worked best for me was a double up of:
Long hot soak in a tub, maybe with some bubbles or like fancy bath oil and exfoliating the absolute crap out of every inch of skin that could get an ingrown hair with a Turkish bath mitt (AKA hammam/spa bath mitten) it's made usually out of wool or cotton crepe and a tight bumpy weave and after soaking in hot water and scrubbing directly with this, no soap, skin will roll off in hella satisfying grey clumps. Which means the icky skin can't be there to trap that hair that wants to escape.

Also MiN skin solution. It burns like the devil on freshly treated skin but goddamn does it work. It's a rollerball applicator and out of all the stuff I've tried this was the only thing that didn't make my bikini area look like a bubbling hellscape.

Best of luck with your laser sessions and I mean, get a hammam glove anyway its a super cheap treat and when you get out of the shower with baby soft skin and watch the gross clumps of dead grey skin slop down the drain....feels awesome!

EDIT: Want to second Wippy on the natural fiber underpants. Swapping out for all cotton boy shorties with no elastic on the leg-holes made a huuuge difference in whether I got irritated.

You mean this? My grandfather wore the same kind, as far as I know it's pretty much the exact same stuff.

I'm sure there are tons of good ones you can use, but I got this Nivea for Men Replenishing Balm for my husband, and he's been really happy with it.

I read recently on the internet (so it must be true, right?) that you can sharpen your razor (like regular cartridge razors, not straight razors) on a piece of denim in between uses. This is supposed to help you keep the edge better in between changes, and allow you to use it a little longer before changing. We haven't tried it yet, though, because we didn't have a pair of jeans to junk, so we're going to have to find someone who does who will give us a piece.

You might need a better electric shaver. I use pre-shave stuff and shave before I shower, then throw on a little of this stuff after, then some of this at night keeps my face from drying out.

u/bubbaderp · 1 pointr/wicked_edge

I've been using cold splash>plain old witch hazel> air dry> then the Nivea aftershave with beautiful results http://www.amazon.com/Nivea-Shave-Replenishing-3-3-Ounce-Bottles/dp/B001FB5IGO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319928693&sr=8-2

I had problems with this for a long time, but just bought this product and it’s helped a lot with getting rid of bumps and ingrown hairs. Also make sure to exfoliate a few days before shaving and when the hair is growing back in!
