I'd disagree. I know this isn't a popular opinion here and i like to use a DE and an Electric razor. I switched to a DE to get close shave and get away from irritation from cartridge razors. Electric razors produce zero irritation on my face.

However, due to time constraints and the fact that I love to sleep in, I don't always have time to go through a DE routine before work in the morning. I find that a good electric razor gives me a relatively close shave without any irritation. I like this model. (I can get a close shave in 3 minutes with an electric, but my DE routine takes about 15 minutes)

I like to keep stubble, I use an electric shaver

u/WizardFiend · 4 pointsr/AskMen

I have one of the cheaper Phillips Norelcos from Costco (cheaper being relative, you can get them cheaper but idk the quality of the shave). As long as you use it every day/every other day it’s great. If you let your hair get longer than short stubble it can start to feel like it’s pulling some but even then it’s not terrible. I had tried one of the like $20 no name shavers before and it felt like my hair was being ripped out.

Have had the Phillips about 5 years, with heavy use in the last two years, have only have replaced the blades once. As long as you clean the shavers occasionally with alcohol and wipe it down it stays fine.

I keep mine in the car during the week, use it each morning and on the way home. I take it out on Friday after work to clean it and charge it. Realistically the charge lasts longer than that also.

The only complaint is that since the hair on my neck grows in different directions there’s one or two spots that I always have to go over multiple times. I think one of the newer ones that has less plastic around the three blade things may work better but I haven’t seen the need to get another new one yet. Eventually will prolly upgrade.

I do need to make sure to moisturize with some kind of lotion after or it really dries my face out.

Oops. I was going to give you a link to my $10 electric razor, but you wanted grooming attachments, which it does not have.

Remington Titanium MSC-140 travel shaver.

u/TarryStool · 3 pointsr/amazon

That seems legit. Since OP asked for the "best money can buy," I'd take that make, but the super-ultra-deluxe version, which includes a cleaning system. Plus, it's $200 off.

u/hammersklavier · 3 pointsr/CFBOffTopic

Meanwhile, I'm planning on getting a new shaver (le sigh, the fact that I have to replace it) and a haircut this November.

This being the one I want. Wet shavers work best for my face-pubes. Let's see whether I can find it.

u/bitch-ass_ho · 3 pointsr/AskMen

Hey dude, I'm not a dude, but I'm the wife of a dude and the mom of a little dude, so I hope that my insights are welcome here.. I didn't have a dad in my life either, but this is what I've learned about dude hygiene over the last 12 years of my marriage:

  1. Pick a "signature scent" (COLOGNE, not Axe body spray), spend a little money on it (a whole giant bottle should be like $40-75) and wear it SPARINGLY. Find whatever scent you like, spray no more than TWICE into a cloud about 2-3 feet in front of your body, then WALK THROUGH IT. Never spray cologne directly on your body/clothes, and never be that asshole at the bar who's gassing everyone out with their cheap-ass bargain basement stench all night. Ladies (probably everyone, actually) love a dude who can properly wield a subtle, sexy scent without being a greaseball.

  2. Workout! I do not work out, so I'm a giant hypocrite, but my husband keeps a squat rack and bumpers, plus some 50-80lb dumbbells in the garage. He doesn't do like full 2-hour or whatever workouts every day, but he squeezes in a few sets here and there whenever he has time. Its just enough to keep him looking great but a little squishy (the way I happen to like it), and he says it improves his mood, anxiety levels, sexual stamina, and more!

  3. Balding: whatever your situation is, make sure that you are honest with yourself about what your future hair might look like. Come to terms with your potential future baldness EARLY ON (if necessary) and DO NOT CLING TO THE LAST VESTIGES OF YOUR YOUTH BY KEEPING HAIR ON YOUR HEAD THAT DOESN'T SERVE YOU. My husband is bald/balding, and he's always been super insecure about it, but I've honestly never cared or thought badly of his hairline. He ended up shaving his head fully bald anyway, which is something I highly recommend if you like to keep a beard. He uses this dope electric shaver that we got him for father's day to get a baby-butt-smooth shave every other day, and to clean up his neckline under his beard. https://smile.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-5-Star-Finale-Finishing/dp/B01L9D540C

  4. Please understand that fashion does not exist to oppress you. If your clothes are uncomfortable or unflattering, they are not the right clothes for your body. Dress the body you have, not the body you want or the body you hate. Put your best foot forward, wear clothes you actually like and TAKE CARE OF THEM by not just washing them all together in hot water and drying them on the Nuclear setting. Follow the washing directions on the tags, get recommendations for a good, local, sustainable dry cleaner, and hang up your nice/work/club clothes ASAP after you get home. Also wash/wipe down the white/light colored parts of your shoes/sneakers every week or two, it makes a surprising difference! Also If you're fashion-illiterate /r/malefashionadvice is actually where I go when my husband says he wants a certain type of garment, but doesn't know what the best brands are or how to style it. They have a really wide variety of style guides there and tons of pics for inspo.

  5. Clip your finger/toe nails before any and all sexual activity, full stop. Also making sure your hands/nails are clean (much more difficult if you're lucky enough to work a fun blue-collar job) is important. you don't need to go out and get mani/pedis (but it's SO fun and makes you look great), and clean, trimmed nails go a long way to help you look polished.

  6. Everyone's preferences for pubic hair are a very personal decision, but as a woman who bangs a dude, I'll tell you what I believe to be some good general advice: Ball/dick hair in your partner's mouth during blow jobs is gross, but can be an inevitability. Trim your hair in such a way that it's not too short (stubble pokes the clit and scrapes it like steel wool), but not too long either, because you don't want to give your dick a mustache to feed ball hairs directly into their mouth either. Make sure you thoroughly wash/scrub your entire groin area including your butthole before a night you're hoping to get lucky, and also quickly run to the bathroom before sex to just check yourself/freshen up a bit. Women have been doing that since the beginning of time, up to and including running into your bathroom to fully bathe their pussies with a washcloth immediately before sex. Man musk is very sexy, swamp ass is not.

    Hope this helps! Godspeed.

After my last woman-specific shaver died in less than six months, I got one of [these] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043DMNHS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It stays charged for about week at a time and has a little popup trimmer attachment.

u/gar187er · 2 pointsr/AskMen

get a pre shave scrub.....and good shaving cream (not foam or gel).....and post shave lotion.

take a shower, do your hair, whatever, let the steam open your pores,

Hopefully you own a wet shaver, and a good one at that.....

i own the Panny LA93. ITS AWESOME.
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-ES-LA93-K-Multi-Flex-Dual-Motor-Rechargeable/dp/B002N5MHLK

Anyway, tehn you use the scrub, rinse off, then light lather of shave cream, and shave. When done, finish up in the shower. Once you get out, pat dry your face, and apply lotion immediately!

Also you look like you have a few breakouts on your face. could be related to your shaving irritation...

I started with Neutrogena Shave stuff, cause it was cheap, but then I switched to Every Man Jack, and love it....not too pricey either. Get it online or at Target

Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s Electric Shaver

This is what I use personally, will probably upgrade to the 5 series soon as I've had it for a few years now but works and absolute treat if you're using it everyday, used it for 7 months in Afghan as well with no problems. I wouldn't try and not shave over the weekend then use it on the Monday hence why I wet shave on the monday.

u/CurryHummus · 2 pointsr/sexover30

I used a razor to shave my balls for a while. Gave myself a little cut maybe every 50-100 times. Not I just use this to maintain things. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005IUR9CE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hi there,

Not overly experienced in this area, but this is what I've got: Philips AquaTouch AT890

People often say you won't get as good a shave with an electric razor as with a wet shave, which is true, but this makes a damn good effort. Really close. Really nice shave. Price is fairly decent compared to some electric one's you can get. I also like the mini pop out blade that it has for more precise trimming.

Just my recommendation. Worth a look I'd say :)

u/elmoslats · 2 pointsr/ireland

Im the same. I've used one of these for the last 2 years or so and find it great.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004XIBAT0/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_hxO-wbQDFNDEE

I guess if you've nothing in the bank it mightn't be an option .

It's electric, you can wet shave with it with shaving cream. I get very little agitation from it.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I've got a cheaper model but if I were to buy once, cry once I'd go with this.

u/earf · 2 pointsr/medicalschool

From someone who gets a 5 o'clock shadow by the end of rounds, I love my Philips Norelco rotary shaver. I use it every morning and it takes <2 minutes to get a good close shave.

Electric Trimmer here -
-- Philips Norelco Sensotouch 1280X/47
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006W2SYGM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a few years old now, but so long as I change the head often enough, it's >95% as close as a razor.

Looking to get a blade razor again, but the electric can be so damn convenient when I don't want to shave every day and deal with blades as often. It cost maybe $300 a $60 head every 6 months or so.

u/MooReview · 2 pointsr/shaving

Normally I recommend people steer clear of shavers less than $80 USD. The exception to this is for teenagers/young adults whose beard has not fully come in yet. I am going to assume that when you call your beard "young" it is made up of softer hairs and is somewhat patchy? If so you will be able to get away with a lower end shaver.

Don't be put off by your brothers rotary, electric shavers should not be shared and if he has had it for a while the blades will have dulled according to his beard growth and shaving pattern which will always result in an inferior shave for another user. It is likely your brother has a lower model rotary or it is incredibly old if it got to the stage where it pulls/ discharges too quickly.

Now my experience is with united states models of electric shavers. However, most electric shaver manufactuers will re-release their products internationally with different names, colors and claims. This makes research an incredibly difficult task. By and large they are the same shavers however the included accessories often vary, however these have little impact on the shaving experience.

So for the purpose of my recommendations I am sticking with UK equivalents of the US models I have tested. If there is a shaver release unique to the UK then I am unable to comment on it.

If you want to give rotaries a go, the current starting point would be the Aquatouch (Our 5300). Even though lower models of Philips Norelco rotary will cut through younger hairs, their quality is suspect relative to the price.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-S5420-06-SmartClick/dp/B00WGNQOH2/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1464557593&sr=8-1&keywords=philips+aquatouch

If you want to go the more traditional route, a Braun Series 3 would be the best bet. While it struggles to cut through thicker, coarser hairs it will have little difficulty cutting through your beard. The next step down is a far inferior single blade shave for a minimal price drop.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Braun-3040-Mens-Electric-Shaver/dp/B00J05R9DW/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1464557975&sr=8-3&keywords=Braun+Series+3

Despite all this, electric shaving is not for everyone. Your skin and hair type is not your brothers and just because it works for him does not mean it will work for you. Then there is the break in period. Your skin and hair will need to "adjust" to the electric shaver. In the early days you may experience red blotches, skin irritation, missed hairs etc. This is all normal. It's not until 2-3 weeks of use that you will know if the electric shaver is right for you.

It is very much a trial and error thing. To assist with this, all electric shaver manufacturers have a satisfaction guarantee. I am unfamiliar if this is also present on UK models but it essentially allows you to test a shaver for up to 60 days (varies from manufacturer) to find out if its right for you. If it isn't you ship it back to the electric shaver supplier and receive a full refund on the purchase price. Refund typically takes up to 8 weeks but it is a nice safety net to ensure you do not waste your money on a product you will never use again. Please research the satisfaction guarantee if you are interested, I do not know how it works in the UK.

u/numlok · 2 pointsr/GoodValue

After doing quite a bit of research, I picked up this Panasonic 5 years ago, and have been using it happily ever since. No issues, and it still gives a very smooth shave.

That said, it looks as though they've updated this model since I purchased mine, so I can't vouch specifically for the new one... If they're still making them "like they used to", I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

u/simmiedude · 2 pointsr/army

I used this guy a lot. The blades last 24 months and cost about $40 to replace. The battery in thing lasts about 7-10 days if you leave it off the charger (assuming a 3 minute shave everyday). It doesn't cut as close as a regular razor, but it still cuts pretty damn close. It also does very well for those 4 day weekends when you don't shave. You can clean it yourself pretty easily or buy the cleaning cartridges every few months. Really no complaints.

It also has a trimmer for the underparts.

I got the Panasonic ES-LA93-K about 8 months ago. I love it, easily the best shaver I have ever used. Only real complaint is that the cleaning mode is DAMN loud. Amazon appears to have the best price on it.

u/dacoinminster · 1 pointr/Frugal

Norelco-style (with the round foils) never worked well for me, due to some of the absurdly-thick hairs on my chin.

I can't let this thread pass without plugging the Panasonic electric shaver I've been using for a few years now which can chew through those logs without pinching me: http://amzn.com/B0043DMNHS

If you always thought your beard was too thick to use electric, I suggest you give that one a try.

u/HeloRising · 1 pointr/bestof

I've used cheaper electric razors and more expensive ones, generally in this style.

I didn't notice a great difference between the cheap and the expensive shavers. They're really not intended to be used by someone who has more facial hair. They're for someone who wants to maintain a smooth face all the time.

u/MrSelfDestruct_XIII · 1 pointr/Frugal

I barely grow facial hair, but I personally use a electric shaver. I bought it on clearance last year for like $18, and its still going strong. Use it twice a week.

Edit: Here it is on Amazon.

u/trogdor3222 · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

This might be a little off-topic for FMF, but..

I bought a 760cc about a year and a half ago and I love it. It's the only shaving implement I've ever used that doesn't irritate the crap out of my skin.

Oh, and pay no mind to the people that whine about having to replace the cleaning fluid. You don't have to use it, but if you do the cartridges are only about $5 a piece on Amazon. I get about 2-2.5 months of use out of each one. In my opinion, the amount of time it saves me in the morning is well worth it (just throw it in the cradle and hit the giant button...done).

Definitely more expensive up-front, but you'll save in the long run.

u/bubonis · 1 pointr/AskMen

Expecting any consumer grade product to last 15+ years is IMO something of a pipe dream. But for what it's worth, I was given a Philips Norelco 1280X/47 SensoTouch 3D Electric Razor as a gift last year. It works very well and I have no complaints about it, but I have to admit that a cheap disposable razor gives me a better shave.

u/ChefJoe98136 · 1 pointr/Costco

Never seen Clean and Renew things at Costco here in Seattle and have been using both for years. My solution has been to select the Amazon 4 pk and put it in a subscribe and save for every 6 months (sorry Costco). https://www.amazon.com/Braun-Cartridge-Replacement-Cleaning-Solution/dp/B007SNGSFS/

I see your hair clippers died halfway through your haircut. Heres a link to a new charger incase you can't find yours to finish it

u/ta1901 · 1 pointr/AskMen

For $10usd this works fine. I can easily replace the batteries, and I use rechargeable batteries. And if I lose it or drop it and break it, I just get another one.

All the shaver types and brands I have tried break just as easily as the next. And the straight foils work best for me as my hair on my faces faces many directions.

They remove the harshness of blades and allow for smoother shaving regrowth and softer areas of applications. They turn blades fast that gently trap cut hairs. Depends how good a one you want. Seriously plucking individual hairs is horrible but the best way without laser

u/4shmd · 1 pointr/ftm

If you're afraid of cutting yourself, you can use an electric razor which is impossible to cut yourself with. I don't use it because it doesn't give you a really close shave and because I just trim and shape my beard-- which you can't really do with something like that (it's more for just shaving everything off) And also because if you have long hairs, it pulls if you don't trim them down first. Wet shaving isn't really that big a deal though-- I've only cut myself a handful of times, and then I just do the toilet paper thing and it heals in like 2 seconds.

Invest in a good, expensive shaver. My brother prefers rotary shavers, but my and my dad prefer Braun foil-type shavers. This is my current shaver. At this price point, without exposing it to high or low temperatures it will last about a year, including blade and razor changes.

Hmm depends on what you are trying to get personally I have tried alot of different beard trimmers, none of them have had too much difference but the trimmers i get are the ones without the clip on trims. In my experience as long as you buy any trimmer that has a single clip that can be adjusted with a dial or something, it would work good for you.

This is the one I use personally right now and works great for me Philips trimmer.

Just to note I do personally now keep a short beard and use a straight edge razor to shave and keep in shape.
