My husband's grandfather uses something like this. He is always clean shaven but he is a man with thin, sagging skin and shakey hands. He says it works well for him. Maybe your pop would enjoy using something like this.
Hi. So, I'm a guy, but, I use this one for everything.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ARF428E/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_gurFub1VFCA7V Gives me the ability to go fully smooth, or shape (though, I have no sense of style, so there's that). Haven't nicked anything, or given myself any burns even in sensitive areas. Though, for me, it's been a few months since any proper maintenance, so I might need to buy one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HH4K4EO/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_UzrFub0ASPCZM
Reviews on Amazon are almost 50/50

I bought one of those 5 in 1 palm head shavers from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TS6NSJ2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I have one of the cheaper Phillips Norelcos from Costco (cheaper being relative, you can get them cheaper but idk the quality of the shave). As long as you use it every day/every other day it’s great. If you let your hair get longer than short stubble it can start to feel like it’s pulling some but even then it’s not terrible. I had tried one of the like $20 no name shavers before and it felt like my hair was being ripped out.
Have had the Phillips about 5 years, with heavy use in the last two years, have only have replaced the blades once. As long as you clean the shavers occasionally with alcohol and wipe it down it stays fine.
I keep mine in the car during the week, use it each morning and on the way home. I take it out on Friday after work to clean it and charge it. Realistically the charge lasts longer than that also.
The only complaint is that since the hair on my neck grows in different directions there’s one or two spots that I always have to go over multiple times. I think one of the newer ones that has less plastic around the three blade things may work better but I haven’t seen the need to get another new one yet. Eventually will prolly upgrade.
I do need to make sure to moisturize with some kind of lotion after or it really dries my face out.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JITDVD2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SRyyCbVD0V8BG this is the style that I have.
Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 8900, Wet & Dry Edition S8950/91 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FNVGKVI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hZyyCbBZT113V this is the style that I would prolly upgrade to eventually. But idk if it’s actually better, it just seems like it may pivot easier.
Meanwhile, I'm planning on getting a new shaver (le sigh, the fact that I have to replace it) and a haircut this November.
This being the one I want. Wet shavers work best for my face-pubes. Let's see whether I can find it.
Self care for me will be finally taking the time to shave
I love this one: Philips Norelco YS524/41 Click and Style Shave Toolkit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ARF428E/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_IC2Pub05Y8PCQ
It does a great job on every part of the body, is completely waterproof and lasts a long time on a single charge.
I use a Remington XR1400 on my head(and a safety razor on my face. IDK why, but my face gets irritated whenever I use any electric razor on it.). It's a nice midpoint between "Absurdly expensive Pittbull thing", and "Reliable won't-breakness".
It's also a small, easy-to-hold headshaver, just..less expensive than Pittbull, and more reliable/better build quality than the Chinese ones.

Remington XR1400 Verso Wet & Dry
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N74PTHF/
I've had SMP for 3 years, and have been providing it for year! The single best thing I have found to keep my hair/my client's hair at the perfect length is the Remington Verso. Ignore the reviews, you will see they are all for shaving the face. It is not a good face shaver (it's intended use), but it's absolutely perfect for the head. Only downside is that it will not working on longer hair.

Hit me up with any questions, I'd be glad to help!
Normally I recommend people steer clear of shavers less than $80 USD. The exception to this is for teenagers/young adults whose beard has not fully come in yet. I am going to assume that when you call your beard "young" it is made up of softer hairs and is somewhat patchy? If so you will be able to get away with a lower end shaver.
Don't be put off by your brothers rotary, electric shavers should not be shared and if he has had it for a while the blades will have dulled according to his beard growth and shaving pattern which will always result in an inferior shave for another user. It is likely your brother has a lower model rotary or it is incredibly old if it got to the stage where it pulls/ discharges too quickly.
Now my experience is with united states models of electric shavers. However, most electric shaver manufactuers will re-release their products internationally with different names, colors and claims. This makes research an incredibly difficult task. By and large they are the same shavers however the included accessories often vary, however these have little impact on the shaving experience.
So for the purpose of my recommendations I am sticking with UK equivalents of the US models I have tested. If there is a shaver release unique to the UK then I am unable to comment on it.
If you want to give rotaries a go, the current starting point would be the Aquatouch (Our 5300). Even though lower models of Philips Norelco rotary will cut through younger hairs, their quality is suspect relative to the price.

If you want to go the more traditional route, a Braun Series 3 would be the best bet. While it struggles to cut through thicker, coarser hairs it will have little difficulty cutting through your beard. The next step down is a far inferior single blade shave for a minimal price drop.

Despite all this, electric shaving is not for everyone. Your skin and hair type is not your brothers and just because it works for him does not mean it will work for you. Then there is the break in period. Your skin and hair will need to "adjust" to the electric shaver. In the early days you may experience red blotches, skin irritation, missed hairs etc. This is all normal. It's not until 2-3 weeks of use that you will know if the electric shaver is right for you.
It is very much a trial and error thing. To assist with this, all electric shaver manufacturers have a satisfaction guarantee. I am unfamiliar if this is also present on UK models but it essentially allows you to test a shaver for up to 60 days (varies from manufacturer) to find out if its right for you. If it isn't you ship it back to the electric shaver supplier and receive a full refund on the purchase price. Refund typically takes up to 8 weeks but it is a nice safety net to ensure you do not waste your money on a product you will never use again. Please research the satisfaction guarantee if you are interested, I do not know how it works in the UK.
Thanks for responding! The reason I ask is because when you pick up a GQ or Details or Men's Health, 99.9% of the products featured/recommended are men-specific, so I never really know.
I have sensitive skin in that I feel like I break out easily, but since I actually only need to shave every few days, I just use a Norelco sort of like this: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-6948XL-41-Packaging/dp/B00CD1QU80/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1417040826&sr=8-2&keywords=norelco+shaver and make sure to thoroughly clean the metal parts that touch my face.
A rotary shaver may be what you're looking for.
I watched a few videos but really you just have to go for it. Use warm water or take a shower before shaving. I like to use a shave butter vs a cream (easier to see what I'm shaving) but that's just personal preference I guess. Shave with the grain, especially if your skin is sensitive. Usually I'll do a second pass against the grain on my cheeks and mustache area but my neck is pretty sensitive so I only do with the grain there. Wash off with cold water after.
Also I only use a double blade razor. None of that fancy stuff. The ones with like 5 blades feel too big for my face. If you really want easy peasy, you can get an electric razor, like this one.
I find that my Phillips Norelco does a pretty good job, so long as I clean it out with a brush after ever other use and use a shaving gel.
Hi there,
Not overly experienced in this area, but this is what I've got: Philips AquaTouch AT890
People often say you won't get as good a shave with an electric razor as with a wet shave, which is true, but this makes a damn good effort. Really close. Really nice shave. Price is fairly decent compared to some electric one's you can get. I also like the mini pop out blade that it has for more precise trimming.
Just my recommendation. Worth a look I'd say :)
Im the same. I've used one of these for the last 2 years or so and find it great.

I guess if you've nothing in the bank it mightn't be an option .
It's electric, you can wet shave with it with shaving cream. I get very little agitation from it.

I picked up the Norelco 1250 Sensotouch 3D last week after an airline lost my luggage and I found myself in need of a new shaver. It's expensive, but my previous electric shaver (another Norelco, probably one of their lower-end models) lasted me almost a decade so I wasn't afraid of putting down some dough for something I knew would last me that long.
This model has a MUCH closer shave than my last model and to be honest it seems to be just about on par with a razor. Also, last year I used a foil shaver for 3 months while I was on an extended trip and I vastly prefer rotary shavers (even the lower end models) to the foil shaver, the foil shaver missed hairs often and didn't provide a very close shave.
I can't help with a direct comparison of Norelco's current lineup (2D vs 3D or whatever) but I can just say that I'm satisfied with mine.
From someone who gets a 5 o'clock shadow by the end of rounds, I love my Philips Norelco rotary shaver. I use it every morning and it takes <2 minutes to get a good close shave.
I've got a cheaper model but if I were to buy once, cry once I'd go with this.

It's a few years old now, but so long as I change the head often enough, it's >95% as close as a razor.
Looking to get a blade razor again, but the electric can be so damn convenient when I don't want to shave every day and deal with blades as often. It cost maybe $300 a $60 head every 6 months or so.
The XR1400 looks so much like the one I just ordered (40 bucks, why not?)

I wonder if they all come out of the same assembly line or if they are clones of different quality.
Most identical one I've found on Amazon, just that it's not Xiaomi's, everything else seems to line up though.
If your skin is too sensitive for a blade daily, buy a shaver like this. This is what I use every day. It's also waterproof and from experience electrics shave much better with water.
Shave close with a Harry’s razor from Target, let it grow in a couple of days, and then use this for a vey fine stubble.

Here is the one i use. and i like it a lot. here are the things i like about it.
As a fellow baldy, I recommend buying one of these. Makes me look way tidier, I still have some headfluff too.
I barely grow facial hair, but I personally use a electric shaver. I bought it on clearance last year for like $18, and its still going strong. Use it twice a week.
Edit: Here it is on Amazon.
If you're afraid of cutting yourself, you can use an electric razor which is impossible to cut yourself with. I don't use it because it doesn't give you a really close shave and because I just trim and shape my beard-- which you can't really do with something like that (it's more for just shaving everything off) And also because if you have long hairs, it pulls if you don't trim them down first. Wet shaving isn't really that big a deal though-- I've only cut myself a handful of times, and then I just do the toilet paper thing and it heals in like 2 seconds.
I'm sorry you can't go all the way. But as far as cost, I buy a new electric razor every few years for 50 dollars each. Seems cheap to me. I could buy an electric razor for 10-20 dollars, but meh, I'm not that poor.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-S5420-06-SmartClick/dp/B00WGNQOH2/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463958267&sr=8-8&keywords=electric+beard+trimmers+for+men
They remove the harshness of blades and allow for smoother shaving regrowth and softer areas of applications. They turn blades fast that gently trap cut hairs. Depends how good a one you want. Seriously plucking individual hairs is horrible but the best way without laser
Just buy one and be happy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JITDVD2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_q1IRCbS0NNPF4
This is pretty damn amazing on old skin. Especially the paper thin type that bleeds easily.
I've used cheaper electric razors and more expensive ones, generally in this style.
I didn't notice a great difference between the cheap and the expensive shavers. They're really not intended to be used by someone who has more facial hair. They're for someone who wants to maintain a smooth face all the time.
Phillips norelco from me too. Go for this one http://www.amazon.com/Philips-1150x-40-SensoTouch-Electric/dp/B003V360NY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1324953939&sr=8-3
I've had it for over a year and it's easily the best out there for the money.
How should I go about getting approved for health and beauty? My walmart marked down about 25 of These electric shavers for $17 each ($18.02 after tax) and I feel like I am throwing away a great opportunity but I am too scared to buy them without being approved first
Expecting any consumer grade product to last 15+ years is IMO something of a pipe dream. But for what it's worth, I was given a Philips Norelco 1280X/47 SensoTouch 3D Electric Razor as a gift last year. It works very well and I have no complaints about it, but I have to admit that a cheap disposable razor gives me a better shave.
