This isn't really true despite it being the standard line about alchemy. At the very least the emphasis should be first on what you call pseudo-science (even though that's not what it is - the real pseudo-science is the part you call chemistry).

Alchemy was really more of a front for a spiritual tradition first laid down by the Emerald Tablet which is attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. Since it was considered a dangerous idea (Hermeticism) by the powers that be, they needed to mask their intentions with something that passed for practical and scientific at the time. The language of alchemy is filled with allusion and metaphor. Turning "lead into gold" has more to do with transmuting the animal instinct into an eternal, spiritual existence. Turning into a God basically.

This is the best book on the subject, but it may take a few readings to start to understand.

There is book called The Magick of Chant-o-Matics by Raymond Buckland. He tells non-wiccans how to do magic for money and other things by doing chants. It was published in 1976. Perhaps your charismatic pastor read it. I've always like that book.

Are you saying that you did the chants but didn't get a job? And, you lost money rather than financial blessings? Often this kind of manipulation is used for unscrupulous leaders to get rich at the expense of the followers.

Apologies for the confusion. I did get that you meant for Kindle and not physical books. I just wasn't sure if it was literally any Kindle book.

All of these are on Kindle, and I've included the links. Consider this as really just a wish list of sorts that might be helpful to the group as a whole.

R.A. Torrey's book on healing is actually pretty well balanced. D. Martin Lloyd Jones (who was a doctor and assistant to the Royal physician) also wrote a book on illness and healing. Also very balanced. In terms of dealing with bad understanding of demons and their work, Merril Unger seems to have dealt with a lot of that. His book Biblical Demonology might be of use to you. Since some of them are out of print, a few of them might be found at a Christian College Library.

Check out the book Tuning into Nature by Dr. Philip Callahan, may be helpful.
