something like this.

fine enough to stop baby shrimp swimming through but big enough not to affect the water flow much

Honestly, I think as long as it's a fine wire mesh you'll be pretty good. I just found this on Amazon, which would certainly work but you could probably to to your local hardware store and see if they have any metal screen and it would probably be a bit cheaper.

A "junk yard" area could also be a cool addition, with burned out car shells or even just some dumpsters (covered in old graffiti obviously).

I don't have a pattern, I just freehanded it =( There's a bunch of patterns on Ravelry though! I did the hat using one strand of sparkly pink yarn and one strand of grey. The spikes were done using two strands of white, and they're reinforced with plastic mesh to ensure they stick up well.

I bought a sheet of mesh and cut it to the size for covering that whole section of the tank wall, plus an extra inch of height. Then I fold the top inch against a thin ruler so that it can hang over the wall like this. But I hang it in the display section of the tank instead of the filter section.

I ordered this mesh; TIMESETL 3pcs Stainless Steel... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077M93J18?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
The mesh itself is fairy malleable, so i just wrapped it around and used needle nose pliers to clamp it into place on the pipe. The two O rings on either side are the same ones used for the co2 dip tubes on ball lock kegs. If I did this again I would try and find finer mesh than what I expected from that order, but I did test it out with hop pellets and water and only fine particulate made it through, which would settle out anyways when I cold crash. I am actually dry hopping today in the keg freely with 3 oz of cryo so i'm curious to see how it works out.

This happened to me as well, and I crush my grain on the finer side (and I like that) so I've implemented the following two solutions:
First, I bought this stainless steel mesh screen and cut it into a circle using a pair of tin snips. This sits on top of my bottom plate during the mash and stops just about everything from getting through.
Second, because some of the grain can sneak up through the top plate during the mash, I bought this kitchen sink strainer to sit on top of the top plate overflow inlet.
While I agree with others that a small amount of grain in the boil should have little effect, these are two relatively inexpensive modifications that give me a lot of peace of mind. Cheers!

Just plain mesh, I believe I bought 20 mesh, meaning 20 holes per square inch. I purchased from this seller
on Amazon.

What you want, I think, is an imperfect Faraday cage(a perfect one would kill all wireless signal). What works best for a Faraday cage is copper mesh. I've been thinking about building a Faraday cage with copper mesh stapled to a wood frame with a door that can be opened little by little to find a sweet spot of poor signal to maximize drift while still holding a connection.

Edit: I just learned from the Wiki page about Faraday cages that they make Faraday bags for electronics, if you search for Faraday on Amazon you can see such products. Perhaps a phone in one of these with it propped open just enough can yield a desired effect.

You can build a wood box with a vent cover+mesh (on the side) for intake. For output, going out the bottom would work then a extension cord safety cover would do for the power.

I actually used Copper 1/8" mesh.

Copper Woven Mesh Sheet, Unpolished (Mill) Finish, Standard Tolerance, Inch, ASTM E2016-06 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CNLWYAI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0v5qybJKBAKEB

It'll probably patina over time, but I kinda like the look.

Steel wool will eventually rust and break down. I used it once for this purpose, in what I thought was an area that would never get wet. Well, it did get wet, somehow, (condensation? who knows) and not even a year later, the mice had their ingress hole back in use.

Get some of this Copper Stuff-It shit. You can easily cut pieces off with a regular pair of scissors. Stuff it into the hole as tightly as possible, using the head of a screwdriver or something for real tight spots. You can then apply the expanding foam sealant right into/on top of the Copper Stuff-It. The foam sealant will permeate the Copper Stuff-It and you will never see a mouse, rat or insect coming in through that hole again.

Leave your traps out for a while to catch stragglers who made it inside.

I don't know if this will be helpful for you OP in your particular situation, but one way to find ingress holes is to use a flashlight. Obviously this will only work in certain situations, but in the right situation it's handy as hell.

One person shines the flashlight around the perimeter of the building or room with the infestation, slowly drawing the beam over possible access areas; another person watches from the inside to see where the light's getting in. It's amazing how many holes this reveals sometimes.

We found a quarter-inch hole in some framing in the garage this way. The mice were using it to get into the basement. It was completely invisible to the naked eye from either the garage or the basement. I sealed it up as described above and that was that.

Good luck.

I'm so sorry for bugging you so much but you're so helpful! That screen is out of stock until the end of the month so I'm going to order this.

u/neeners9223 · 1 pointr/howto
