A Civil Campaign actually, but yeah, definite recommend, though may not fit the OP's needs; it's all set on a planet, and the most alien species you run into are heavily engineered humans.

World Engine is a book about the Astral Knights battle against a Necron Death World on it's way somewhere very worth defending. The Astral Knights land the entirety of their chapter on the surface of the planet to fight this Necron force. Fairly recent release and I thought it was pretty good, Ben Counter is a good writer in my opinion.
